Rubber Ducky Isopod sketch.

The ‘rubber ducky’ isopod is a miniature pet with a duck bill face. I see it more as a Darth Vader helmet , haha. These cute little guys are really awesome!
If they ever breed them in jet black, they can call them Vader Duckies! 😅

Everyone say hi to the Alices
#isopods#bugs#bug#pet bugs#it was a quote party mix unquote so i dont really have a morph name.#he said powder oranges i believe#bot sure if they all are because some are noticeably not orange. i expect the colors will fade in a few generations of interbreeding#since i just need a clean up crew

My little albino Armadillidium vulgare have mellowed to a warm vanilla colour as they've grown. This one seems to be gravid! Fingers crossed for more white pods. (Bad photo as she was quite agile and good at getting off the spoon and legging it across the table.)
This small group is about six months old and all turned up in my wild-caught stripey morphs tub.

the little batch of precious piebald babies 🥹 also one solid white baby??? i am interested to see if that's its true color when it grows up!

There are also lots of normal juveniles. i suppose i will let them stick around and breed for a while in case they are carrying the piebald gene too.
#g postin#bugs#isopods#oniscus asellus#im not using the fancy morph names btw if its got white patches its pied to me okay?

WOA! THE SPIKYPOD! :3
THANK YOUUUUUU :3

Spiny Tropical Pill Woodlouse (Calmanesia erinaceus), family Armadillidae, Madagascar
photograph by simon_verlynde
#this one's so cool#I really love the spiky isopods :3#and from what i can tell this one isn't even a morph#(but it's apparently endemic to madagascar)#(and there haven't been any successful captive colonies apparently)#I really wonder what kind of evolutionary pressure could warrant the certainly enormous tradeoff of growing spikes#there must be some really fierce predators in madagascar :3#and with every cool isopod I see my theory of all the silly ones being in armadillidae is confirmed more#poor armadillidiidae#at least they got christarmadillidium :3#which is also cool#but yeah#thabk you for the tag!! :3

Armadillidium vulgare “Pennypack Gold” is, in my opinion, one of the most stunning morphs of a very common isopod species.

my older adults display a deep purplish-gold color, and both sexes are adorned with striking yellow markings. the eyes are a deep burgundy while the antennae seem almost incongruously pale.

they’re possibly one of my favorite morphs of any Armadillidium, very glad to have these

Armadillidium maculatum, also known as zebra isopods, have a couple different color and pattern morphs but I'm happy with my black and white stripe-y guys! They're also pretty large as far as isopods go. A group of their "odes" is now up on my website!
Banana for scale.

A. maculatum for scale!

Saw a leachianus gecko and went 'holy shit that's a dog' and then promptly after went 'holy shit what if Eliksni dogs looked like this. Wait wait wait. What if they looked like this but with ISOPOD features'. This was a thought that I nearly immediately had to make a reality, bc how couldn't I. Also I'm learning CSP and this was the perfect excuse to play around with brushes
I deliberately made them look like the Eliksni to make it seem like they shared a common ancestor, much like humans and wolves do on Earth. I figured that the rule of 'if it looks like our babies, we'll love it' extends outside of our species as well, as it's just the most evolutionary sound way of dealing with things when your kids require a ridiculous amount of parental care. As for colours, I just went for the default Eliksni tones, but I'm sure these fellas came in a huge variety of colours pre-Whirlwind, with all sorts of breeds and morphs made by selective breeders and eco-splicers for various purposes
