Sources of Alexandrite Gemstone in the World
The gemstone which is marveled at for displaying the splendid change of color is one of the rarest in the world. Alexandrite is rarer than diamond and is mostly found in sub-one-carat sizes. Even then it commands an envious price in the market and if it’s bigger then it may cost a fortune to own one. Once the alexandrite was discovered in the Ural Mountains in Russia in the 1830s it rose to prominence so fast that the Russian mines were depleted within the next hundred years or so.
Tumblr media
Russia
According to some accounts in the year 1830, a miraculous stone was discovered in the Ural Mountains in Russia on the 12th birthday of Alexander II who became the Czar later on. The stone was named after him though it’s still unclear as to when the stone was actually named as such because the term did not appear in the then literature before 1842. The works of Yakov Kokovin related to the discovery of alexandrite was published in the issue44 of the In Color magazine in 2019.
Tumblr media
India
At present India is producing alexandrite in substantial quantities. Alexandrite was found in the Raipur District in the state of Chhattisgarh in 1994 though the current production from this region is rather negligible. The other two prominent sites - Narsipattnam and Araku - are in the state of Andhra Pradesh near the city of Visakhapatnam. Odisha is another state in India where alexandrites are mined.
Most of the alexandrites of Indian origin are strong towards the green side of the color spectrum but somewhat weak towards the red. Generally speaking, the Indian alexandrites show satisfactory clarity and color change. Samunda alexandrites, named after the mine, exhibit a remarkable color change from bluish green to purplish-red and are valued highly in the international market.
Sri Lanka
Balangoda & Horana sites in Sri Lanka are known for alexandrite and other gemstones. Srilankan alexandrites are comparatively larger in size than those of other origins, however, the alexandrites found in Sri Lanka possess muddy color tones and show weak color change.
Brazil
Alexandrite was discovered in Brazil in 1987 in the area called Minas Gerais meaning general mines. These mines are also known for producing emeralds. Other mines are Hematita, Carnaiba, Esmeralda de Ferros, Itaitinga, Novo Cruzeiro, Teafilo Otoni, Serra Dourada. Gemstones from this region are prized for their exceptional color change and clarity. Brazilian alexandrite is considered one of the best in the market today.
Tumblr media
Madagascar
It seems like Madagascar has a host of gemstones under its belly. Initially, there was a sapphire rush in the 1990s, then came along ruby and afterward alexandrite. Alexandrite was found in Madagascar in the Ilakaka locality of the Fianarantsoa region.  These gemstones are quite vivid and include a yellow-green variety of cat’s eyes.
Tanzania
The Tunduru region in Tanzania which borders another country – Mozambique, has produced large quantities of sapphires, spinels, and alexandrites. The Manaya region in the north has also produced some fine alexandrite gemstones.
Zimbabwe
Alexandrites from Zimbabwe are dark and experts consider them suitable for faceting for only small-sized gems. Though the current production in the country is almost non-existent, the Novello deposit of Zimbabwe’s Masvingo district is worth mentioning here.
Australia
In 1930 alexandrite was found near the Dowerin region in the western part of Australia.  Since then the mine has yielded many small alexandrite gemstones with remarkable clarity and color change.
Myanmar
Myanmar is primarily known for its ‘Burmese ruby’ though some alexandrite stones were also found in the Mogok region of this country. It has also been reported to produce ‘cat’s eye’. Very little information is available about the commercial mining of alexandrites in this country due to its political state.
Though it is quite common to hear the phrase ‘emerald by day and ruby by night’ for alexandrite, it is also sometimes called the ‘stone prophet’. According to some beliefs, the stone changes its color from green to red irrespective of the lighting if its owner is in danger.
So, if you feel enamored by this amazing gemstone, then you can certainly get a few for yourself from GemsNY where you’ll find certified natural alexandrite gemstones in a variety of shapes and sizes.

#JackedKirby - RIP Joltin Joe Sinnott!!!! 💥💥💥 Today we got the sad new that legendary comic book industry professional and long term Jack Kirby collaborator Joe Sinnott passes away at the age of 93. Today is a sad day indeed... 💥💥💥 I say “comic industry professional” instead of INKER because Sinnott was much more then an inker. That may be what he is most well know for, but he has written/pencilled many stories and strips through the years as well as done other industry duties. So to reduce him to just being an inker would be a disservice. 💥💥💥 That being said, most people in the comics industry and fans consider him to be one of the finest inkers to ever ink a page. Stan Lee is quoted as saying “Pencillers would hurl all sorts of dire threats at me if I didn’t make certain that Joe... and ONLY JOE... inked their pages!” Joe and Jack worked together magically many times, but it was on the FF they became synonymous with each other. He inked FF #Issue5 (1st appearance of Dr Doom) and left the book before returning from some outside work to the book on #Issue44 in Nov of 1965. He would remain on the book through #Issue102 (Kirby’s last FF in Sept of 1970) and then continued on the book UNTIL 1981!!! That’s 16 straight years!!! 💥💥💥 What’s most amazing is despite working together so long, Kirby and Sinnott never ACTUALLY MET until the 70s at a comic convention. This was illustrated by @tom_scioli in a cool panel (pic 5). Everything was done by mail! 💥💥💥 Joe was a proud vet, a consummate professional and the pinnacle of inking in the industry. He will be greatly missed. @walter.simonson.5 said in a post “anyone who met Joe became his friend”. Just looking at him and hearing stories about him makes me believe that to be true! 💥💥💥 Rest well Joe... and condolences can be sent to the Sinnott Family at 27 Spaulding Lane in Saugerties, NY 12477 💥💥💥 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #JoeSinnott #Sinnott #RIP #SinnottAndKirby #Inker #ComicInker #FF #FantasticFour #MarvelComics #StanLee #60sComics #70sComics #80sComics #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #GoneButNotFoegotten @joltin.joe.sinnott https://www.instagram.com/p/CB3mavQhPdw/?igshid=1ihocu6qyibny

Once the alexandrite was discovered in the Ural Mountains in Russia in the 1830s it rose to prominence so fast that the Russian mines were depleted within the next hundred years or so.
Today, there are only limited areas in the world where this phenomenal gemstone is mined; let’s see which ones.
Alexandrite in Russia was primarily mined in seven places viz. Marinsky, Sretenskoye, Cheremshanskoe, Krasnobolotnoye, Krasno-armeyskoye, Aulskoye, and Shag. Of the all places, the mines in Marinsky were re-explored in 2019 and some deposits of alexandrite, emerald and beryllium were found. It is considered the only working mine in Russia as it is under strict government control and not much is known about the quantity or the quality of stones being mined. All other mines stand exhausted and the last known attempted exploration was in  2013 at Krasno-armeyskoye site. Since the Russian mines depleted within the next hundred years of the discovery of alexandrite there, the stone has since become rarer, pushing its price considerably higher in the market. Russian alexandrite is known for its remarkable color change which is second to none. So, if you own an alexandrite from that era it may well be worth a fortune today.

At present India is producing alexandrite in substantial quantities. Brazilian alexandrite is considered one of the best in the market today.
In 1967, Jules Roger Sauer, the founder and chairman of Amsterdam Jewelers, discovered the largest gem-quality alexandrite which measured 122,400 carats in rough. The find was made in the Jaqueto district of Bahia, Brazil.

#JackedKirby - Ant-Man and The Wasp team up!!! 🐜🐜🐜 Ant Man was a concept created by Stan Lee and his brother Larry Lieber alongside Jack Kirby back in Tales To Astonish #Issue27 published in January of 1962. Originally conceived as a “monster of the month” type story Stan and Jack decided to revisit the character and flesh out a back story involving him as a regular feature in Tales To Astonish a few months later. By #Issue44 (July Of 1963) he had become a series regular... and he was about to get a sidekick... and a future ex-wife!!! 🐜💥🐜💥 Hank Pym was a brilliant scientist and was working alongside another scientist, Dr Van Dyne, when he was suspiciously murdered. His daughter, socialite Janet Van Dyne, comes to Dr Pym for help in figuring out what happened to her dad. 🐜🐜🐜 Van Dyne catches Pym in his Ant Man costume and begs the hero to help her. He agrees... with a caveat. She has to don his new experimental “Wasp” armor and join her as his sidekick!!! SO THE WASP IS BORN! 💥💥💥 This page shows Janet suiting up for the first time to help Hank battle an alien threat named Kosmos. He talks her through her new suit and powers and prepares her for her first major test... an alien invader!!! 🐜💥🐜💥 Figured this was a great time to post about these two since the trailer for their new film “Ant Man and The Wasp” just dropped featuring Paul Rudd and Evangeline Lilly in the title roles (although they are playing Scott Lang and Hop Van Dyne) in the film. It comes out July 2018 and I for one can’t wait to see these awesome characters in action in their own MCU feature!!! 🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜🐜 #JackKirby #KingKirby #Kirby #AntMan #Wasp #HankPym #JanetVanDyne #Kosmos #TalesToAstonish #Comic #Comics #ComicBook #ComicBooks #AnthologyComic #60sComics #ComicsOfThe60s #IGComics #igcomiccommunity #ComicsOfIG

Increase in the profit rates of National Savings Schemes
Tumblr media
In line with a continuous hike in the central bank’s interest rates, (CDNS) on Tuesday increased profit margins on all national savings schemes by up to 2.74 per cent.
The new rates would be applicable to deposits and investments made with effect from January 1, 2019.
This is the 5th increase in returns on national savings since June 30 last year. According to notification the CDNS, working under the ministry of finance, increased the rate of Defence Saving Certificate (DSC) to 12.47pc from 10.03pc. It stood at 8.10pc on June 30.
Likewise, the returns on Behbood Saving Certificates, Pensioners’ Benefit Account and Shuhadas’ Family Welfare Account were jacked up to 14.28pc from 11.88pc. The return on these schemes stood at 10.8pc at the end of June last year.
Tumblr media
The return on Regular Income Certificates was increased to 12pc of total investment compared to existing rate of 9.72pc that has improved from 7.63pc since June 30. The profit margin on Special Saving Certificates and Special Saving Accounts were also raised to 11.40pc from 8.60pc. The return on this scheme stood at 6.60pc in June.
Also, the return on savings certificates having 3-12 month tenure was also increased to 9.98pc from 8.48pc that stood at 5.92pc in June.
Similarly, the Savings Account would now get 8.50pc instead of 7pc. It stood at 4.50pc on June 30.
The CDNS has dispatched revised rates sheets to all the regional offices with instructions that existing stock of blank special savings certificates, regular income certificates and defence saving certificates would now be used by affixing rubber stamps with Issue48, Issue45 and Issue44, respectively, along with revised rates before issuance.
Officials said the profit rates were revised owing to 150 basis point increase (from 8.5 to 10pc) in benchmark interest rates announced by the State Bank of Pakistan on Nov 30, 2018.
The rates of national savings schemes are announced after every two months and are linked to cut-off yield of long-term Pakistan Investment Bonds.
