I'm going to talk my piece for a second at the cost of being redundant and/or pedantic:
I don't like the Mclaren dominance.
Not because of my sympathies for Ferrari (if it was because of that I should not like so many other teams, past and present) but because it's utterly and simply boring. Not because of the sentiment "My driver isn't winning so I hate everything" but because I don't see any race craft in what we are seeing.
( edit: I edited a little bit the Oscar part because it felt incomplete)
Like ok, when the Mclaren don't start in pole we can sometimes see oscar show that he is a good driver with a good w2w knowledge and a tactical mind, but apart from that it's just the car being so overwhelmingly fast that we don't even see the first car for most of the race.
The drivers are fine but when you have a fast car that's not enough to make your dominance likable, you have to own it and still try to squeeze what remains. What I mean by that is that you talk about the car, you praise the car and you make sure that your drivers acknowledge that and are still somewhat likable. Mclaren spoke persons still have the mentality of a midfield team and they do not realize that this is going to damage them in the long run.
but let's talk about the drivers for a moment: Oscar and Lando. Both of them are good, you are not in F1 if you don't know what you are doing like we have seen time and time again, but they are just that: good.
We are starting to see more from Oscar, both in race craft and personality from before he came to F1, now that he is starting to be comfortable and that's good, fantastic even, and I hope it sticks because I have a soft spot for him and I would loath to see him change in negative. He acknowledges that the car is fast and that is a big help in the standings and he doesn't shy away from the more direct questions but responds to them with as much sincerity as he can. If I had to find something that is wrong or that I don't like it would be that he is boring, right now, in both driving and presence. Like the cool collected personality is interesting and all till a certain point (after a little it may seem more aloof and disinterested then calm, sure and focussed) and having him always front or second row means that we rarely see him under stress, so we rarely see what he is really capable of and how much is the car compared to the man.
Lando on the other end is his own worst enemy, both in race craft and personality; he has an ability to put his foot in his mouth that has to be some kind of talent, mostly aided by the fact that he is really insicure and seems to loose his mind to mouth filter when talking (it's not cute I assure you). His way to race is not appealing or particularly inspired and the fact that in two instance, during this season, the pit wall had to tell him what to do to pass someone, when his team mate did it without assist, shows how much he still has to learn. The fact that he doesn't acknowledges the car most of the time is another instance where we really see how much he doesn't believe in himself and that's just a downright shame because I feel likehe could be really good if he just got rid of that mentality.
this is why I don't like the Mclaren dominance of this season and with that I finish my rambling

i am so full of emotions about that soulmate piece. it is just so perfect. the idea of oscar and logan being platnoic soulmates but oscar *chooses* lily. and the implications. poor sweet lily sad and alone because she has no letters over her heart. only to have oscar choose her, fall in love with her, want to be with her, even though the letters over his heart say LS and not LZ. in a way, truer soulmates. i am all weepy sobby about this. i love it so so much. i love your brain. pls share more
this interpretation got me clutching my fucking chest, so in honor of that, a drabble for your perusal
--
25% of the world's population was born without a soulmark. A kid with non-soulmate parents was likely to be part of that 25%. Lily Zneimer is part of that 25%.
It never bothered her until secondary school, when everyone started talking about marrying their soulmates and finding their "true love". No one knew that Lily didn't have a soulmark but she knows what they'd say if they did. That she wasn't meant to be loved like that. That there was no one else on the entire planet that would fit just right with her.
That's not what she believed. Her friends who had already had soulmates said it felt like they had been incomplete, but Lily was already complete. She didn't need another half to a whole because she was already whole.
When Oscar asked her out for the first time, she assumed he either hadn't met his soulmate yet or was soulmark-less, like her. She agreed because he was cute and funny and sincere. She got tired of trying to figure out what people were thinking but Oscar always told her.
She didn't feel completed by Oscar because she was already complete by herself. But her day was always better when Oscar was in it.
They weren't soulmates. Their lives didn't automatically fit together. They made each other fit because it's what they wanted. Oscar fit himself to her and Lily fit herself to him.
When she first met Logan, she wouldn't have know they were soulmates if she didn't know Oscar so well already. Oscar talked about Logan like he was any other friend. But when they were together, they moved around each other in sync. Oscar was already passing the salt before Logan had even asked, Logan had known exactly what Oscar was planning to order. They didn't quite finish each other's sentences but they spoke in half-words and unfinished thoughts sometimes, not realizing Lily couldn't understand them.
They never excluded Lily or made her feel like the outside looking in. But if Lily and Oscar were the Earth and the Moon, a symbiotic relationship that happened to find each other, Oscar and Logan were twin stars, born of the same cosmic dust.
When Oscar had walked her home, she asked about it.
"I had just assumed that you didn't have a soulmate," she said, not meeting his eye. She knew he'd be able to see all the fear and uncertainty on her face if she did. "But it's Logan isn't it?"
She could feel when Oscar's gaze fell away from her face and she glanced over to see him nod.
"We met at a karting event in 2015," he said, which Lily had already known. "I thought it was weird that the initials on my chest matched his name but it had happened before. But then he told me straight away that my initials were on his chest. And that was that."
Lily was shocked. Most people met their soulmate as adults, some never met them, but Oscar and Logan had met at 14 after being born across the world from each other. Fate had clearly had plans for them.
"Then why aren't you two, you know, together?" She asked, sounding completely bewildered. Even though she didn't subscribe to the view that soulmates were the most important thing in the world, it was just common knowledge that 70% of marriages were between soulmate pairs, either by choice or by force.
Oscar shrugged. "We never felt that way about each other. We met before everyone started talking about dating and soulmates so all we knew is that we were supposed to know each other. He's my best friend but I don't feel any desire to date him."
"And what about Logan?" She asks, still not believing they could just never give it a chance. "Does he feel the same way?"
Oscar does something then that truly surprises her. He laughs. Like full-bodied, caught-off-guard chuckles.
"Logan isn't- well, I'll let him tell you if he wants, but I can promise that Logan doesn't feel attracted to me either. To anyone, really."
That statement was confusing for a few different reasons but it sounded like if she wanted more information, she'd have to ask Logan. They continue to walk in silence for a while before she brings up what she actually wants to talk about.
"Why date me then?"
Oscar stopped and turned to her, forcing her to do the same. He's not smiling anymore but his expression isn't less kind or sincere.
"I asked you out because I like you, Lily. You're smart and beautiful and nice. I'll never date my soulmate which means I'm free to date whoever I want. And who I want is you."
Oscar barely finishes his last few words before Lily is reaching up to hug him. They stand there in the street for a while, just holding each other, Lily basking in the feeling of truly being chosen, maybe for the first time in her life.
"I want you, too, Oscar. Even if I don't have your initials on me."

A VERY INCOMPLETE LIST (PART 2)
I've finally had enough time to finish rewatching the second half of RWRB! Without further ado, here's my very thorough, ACD x HGEJFMW list of things, both tiny and huge, that I loved about the film:
(Yes, I DID think this would be shorter than the first part. I was very, very wrong.)
(here's part 1 if you want to check it out!)
The wide shots of Texas landscape
How excited Alex is to get to work when he gets there
Alex and Henry’s Texas emails
Alex leaning against a building like Jordan-freaking-Catalano, added bonus of his t-shirt sleeves pushed up 🥵
“…and then, I want to lick it off”
White button-down tucked into chinos, sleeves neatly rolled up, bracelets
The New York hotel room and Henry hopping to get his shoe off and then falling on the bed
“You ever been on Grindr?” “Once, unsuccessfully” and the way Henry laughs when he says that
“Swooniest” 😍
Alex squeezing Henry’s thigh when he talks about his dad
The very obvious bottle of lube and condom wrapper on the bedside table in the morning
“It’s all chill, Zahra”
Zahra full on climbing on the sofa, heels and everything
Henry straightening his shirt as he climbs out of the closet, then neatly closing the doors behind himself with the dignity of a prince (even when faced with Zahra)
“I’m sorry to interrupt your process of becoming”
Pretty much everything Zahra says, but especially the way she says “Your Royal Highness” after threatening and cursing for several minutes
Alex’s very serious face while he tells his mom
“She’s also a he…”
Uma Thurman talking about anal and bottoming and PreP - truly a highlight
“I cannot believe they gave you the nuclear codes!”
The Lake House *swoon*
“You can call me Congressman” “Well, in that case, you can call me Your Royal Highness”
The music in the lake house montage sequence
Henry doing kick-ups
Sharing a hammock and reading 😍 (Yes, OLS and Girl, Woman, Other)
The look on Henry’s face when he goes into a regular bar
Henry’s dorkiness on stage
The “Alex is so in love he could die” moment as he watches Henry sing terribly
How Oscar’s clothes are a lot like Alex’s, and you can see him taking after his dad there, being proud of it
Oh god, everything about them on the dock/raft/pier thingy: “shower time!” and Alex kissing Henry’s neck as he climbs on and Henry kissing Alex’s bicep; the easy, casual intimacy before everything goes to shit. The perfect continuity in how wet they are all the way through! (that kind of thing bugs me) Shorts. Wet body hair, legs, arms, chest. The way Alex glitters.
"I never felt this way about anyone" and the inevitable...
Henry closing off, pulling his hand away, his fake smile 💔
Floating in the water, as if he could hide from his problems in there
Alex’s sad, confused face as he calls out “Henry!”
Oh god, Henry's sad face as he lies in bed in the lake house 😭
“What difference would it make if I did?” and Henry’s holding-back-tears face, the tight little smiles
The picture above Alex’s bed
The soft, vulnerable “What if he won’t see me?” whispered to Nora
Rain-soaked Alex saying “Can we please talk?” in a thick voice that sounds like he’s got a huge knot in his throat and is trying not to cry
“For once, I wish you could see me for who I am and not who you want me to be” and “Sometimes I don’t think you know me at all” 💔
“But, Henry. Nothing will ever happen to you.” Fucking bawling now, thanks
Henry and his key to slip out of the palace
Henry and Alex’s boots in the V&A (I don’t know what to say, I just like them)
Dancing ❤️🥹
History, huh? and his eyelashes
Alex’s firm grip around Henry’s wrist in the morning, because he’s not letting him run away again
The airstrip: the ring, the key, that hug
“I’ll be as patient as you need”
“The forced conformity of the closet cannot be answered with forced conformity in coming out of it”
The montage of happy moments throughout Alex’s speech
“Mooning over the prince like a cow in labour” and “two lovesick homosexuals” and again everything out of Zahra’s mouth
“Baby”
“No. I’m not okay.”
Shoulder to waist ratio in a black t-shirt
God Save the King plucked on the piano 😂
“We really need to get you a book on English history”
Henry’s face when he says “and now they are faced with the reality”, so hard, so hurt
“I'm white and upper class so my affection comes with strings” and the way Henry cracks partway through and starts to laugh
The ring fiddling as they wait for the King
Ciggies and booze for the King
Stephen Fry’s accent *chef’s kiss*
OMG the King read their emails 😱 The horror
“Homossssexiual” 😂😂
The tears in Henry’s eyes and in his voice when he says “I love you”, finally, properly, for the first time
“We’re the blue team, right?” and “You just say the word, I’ll get your enrolled at UT Austin,” classic father/son-in-law banter and I love Oscar and Henry for it
CASEY MCQ!!
Holding hands in public, in Austin, yes sir
“Oh my god, I’m so grateful you’re here” and that hug
Alex’s bracelets, all the way through (have I mentioned them already?)
The return of that jacket and that hoodie for the final scene, my favourite and most quintessential, relaxed, fully themselves versions of Alex and Henry
“We won.” “We won.”
And of course:
Alex lending Henry his pinky so he can spin the ring on it and soothe himself (over the credits), which someone pointed out on here and it broke me fully
And never forget:
“Do you think anyone noticed?” and Henry’s clenched fists
❤️🤍💙

THE AARONS 2023 - Worst Film
It’s a marvel this category isn’t filled up with superhero films after the year they’ve had. Here are The Aarons for Worst Film:
Tumblr media
#10. 65
Tumblr media
A Quiet Place screenwriters Scott Beck and Bryan Woods don’t knock it out of the (Jurassic) park with their subsequent Spielberg homage. 65 will have viewers counting down the seconds until they can go home. The science-fiction tale strands stars Adam Driver and Ariana Greenblatt in a B-movie bereft of a reason to see it. The fusion of futuristic tech and ferocious animals should have been easy fodder for frivolous entertainment. Instead, the sluggish pace of the film’s imminent extinction event suggests it wasn’t a meteor or da ice age that killed the dinosaurs; it was extreme boredom.
Tumblr media
#9. Rebel Moon - Part One: A Child of Fire
Tumblr media
Director Zack Snyder likes to paint himself as a rebel against a restrictive studio system while being constantly given new opportunities without cause. His latest big-budget misfire is a childish mash-up of Star Wars and Seven Samurai. Par for the course, the prosaic director copies his inspirations while completely misunderstanding their objectives. Already, the film’s awkward and abruptly-ended parade of thinly-sketched characters is being billed as another incomplete vision, requiring not just two parts but two cuts of each part to truly fulfill Snyder’s intentions. Maybe his hardcore fans will be pleased at the end of the prolonged journey; everyone else will be over the Moon long before then.
Tumblr media
#8. The Exorcist: Believer
Tumblr media
From the beginning, the involvement of David Gordon Green inspired little faith in Believer. Sure enough, the director of Halloween kills interest in his proposed trilogy one film sooner than his last. It’s unclear what exactly led the studio to release a sequel fifty years later that’s tamer than a TV edit of the original. It surely couldn’t have been the return of Ellen Burstyn in her Oscar-nominated role of Chris MacNeil given how quickly the film disfigures and discards the character. That said, it may be for the best that she could excise herself from the proceedings before its embarrassing ending. The franchise is no stranger to desecration but, even at its worst, it was never before this uncompelling.
Tumblr media
#7. Five Nights At Freddy’s
Tumblr media
Topping the box-office may have demonstrated audiences’ appetite for the haunted pizzeria franchise but, make no mistake, the film adaptation of Freddy’s is as run-down as its central establishment. The animatronic mascots at center stage only manage the most pedestrian of jump-scares; they’re far from the only ones just going through the motions. The script, written in part by franchise creator Scott Cawthon, stretches out its thin premise with banal characters and a bizarre child-custody B-plot. It might have been entertaining if it had been any more cheesy. Instead, Freddy’s only serves up an interminable runtime; five nights has never felt so long.
Tumblr media
#6. Hypnotic
Tumblr media
Hypnotic is aptly named; the thriller from Spy Kids director Robert Rodriguez certainly commands one’s attention. The plot, which revolves around Ben Affleck sleepwalking through a conspiracy involving dueling factions of psychics, is simply too inane to ignore. Rodriguez wrote his initial script back in 2002 but was clearly susceptible to outside influences; the film rips off several works that were released before and since, including the dream-like architecture of Inception. Although the director may pride himself on his low-budget prowess, even he can’t make those knock-off sequences look good (though they’re not the silliest instance of replicating elaborate scenery on a miniscule budget here). The film fulfills its intentions on one front: once it’s all over, audiences will have a hard time believing any of it was real.
Tumblr media
#5. Children of the Corn
Tumblr media
The latest offspring of the rotten franchise at least had a kernel of a good idea: the remake roots its characters’ motivations in righteous fury at environmental recklessness rather than strictly religious fervor. However, Children never develops this into any kind of sustenance. The horror here is as, ahem, corny as can be, particularly its stale translation of demonic entity He Who Walks Behind the Rows. Director Kurt Wimmer shows no growth as a director since his last film in 2006, the infamous Ultraviolet; the wooden child actors at least have their youth as an excuse. Sadly though, if ranked within the rest of the series, this one would still land in the middle of the row.
Tumblr media
#4. Haunted Mansion
Tumblr media
2023 was home to many failures for The Walt Disney Company, but none quite as ghastly as the new Haunted Mansion. It’s baffling how a film this overstuffed with actors (including Rosario Dawson, Owen Wilson, and Danny DeVito among many others) could end up this vacant. Indeed, the biggest throughline of the theme-park adaptation is not its attempted reflection on grief but its pervasive and perverse product placement (One character’s tearful monologue about his dead wife comes complete with a prominent Baskin Robbins namedrop). It’s definitely haunting, just not in the way they hoped for.
Tumblr media
#3. My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3
Tumblr media
The Big Fat franchise became even more bloated last year with a picture that can most charitably be described as ‘an all-expenses paid trip to Greece for its cast’. There’s certainly no storytelling reason why audiences are still following the adventures of this extended family, which haphazardly include a last-minute wedding of two very minor characters to justify its title. Nia Vardalos finally receives the director’s chair in addition to her regular writing work just in time for there to be no fresh direction to take things in. If she tries to reunite everyone for a fourth go-round, they would be wise to divorce themselves from it as quickly as possible.
Tumblr media
#2. Pet Sematary: Bloodlines
Tumblr media
Bloodlines resurrects the series last seen in 2019; if this was how it was going to come back, it should have stayed buried. While Stephen King is an imaginative writer, trying to stretch a single chapter of any novel into a feature-length film is like getting blood from a stone. The zombie prequel stumbles its way from scene to scene in search of life, but Bloodlines has nothing for audiences to relate to. Even screen icons like David Duchovny and Pam Grier can’t rouse any interest. Exploiting known franchises may be easy, but, sometimes, making anything else instead is better.
Tumblr media
AND THE WORST FILM OF 2023 IS…
#1. Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey
Tumblr media
Disney slowly losing their stranglehold on intellectual property is a bit bittersweet; Honey is bad enough to sour anyone on the idea of a public domain. The shoddy slasher film, which blustered its way onto the marketplace as soon as the filmmakers could profit from it, is barely recognizable as Pooh but unmistakable as crap. Making the lovable animal into a feral murderer may be legal now, but writer/director Rhys Frake-Waterfield didn’t think, think, think up any other ideas beyond just stirring the pot. Winnie is hoping to prey on one’s curiosity with its premise alone. Word of advice? Don’t bother.

Moments - Part 2 (Jake Lockley x f!reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: There’s no rules for how to cuddle with Jake; you’ve never done it before. The first time you and Jake hold each other. Spiritually, this is a sequel to Moments, but you don’t necessarily need to read that. I wrote Moments before the Jake reveal and felt incomplete without him.
Fluff, pinch of angst
Pairings: Jake Lockley x f!reader, tiny tiny tiny hint of Steven Grant and Marc Spector x f!reader
A/N: Not the fic I thought I’d publish today, but I needed to write some fluffy soft Jake. There’s almost no dialogue in this, which is weird for me. Not edited, but I can’t look at my computer any longer:) Can you tell from my fics that I’m obsessed with Oscar Isaac’s nose and hair?
--
In all the weeks you had known him, Jake Lockley has touched you exactly two times. The first time was on your first date when you both reached for the check and brushed hands. The second was a few minutes ago when he politely touched your waist and moved you so he was the one walking closest to traffic.
Since finding out about Jake, you had done your best to include the man in your already complicated relationship with Marc and Steven. He liked it, liked taking you on dates, insisting on paying, driving you all around the city, watching you do little tasks. But Jake doesn’t touch you. Three official dates, and just two barely there touches.
You enter your shared flat together, and you turn to face Jake, shifting on your feet awkwardly. Usually at this point, Marc or Steven will front, and you’ll fall asleep with one of them or cuddle together on the couch. It’s not what you want tonight; you love them, of course, but you want time with Jake.
“Well-” he starts.
“You could stay,” you interrupt before you can think better of it.
His eyebrows twitch together, confused. Don’t you want Steven or Marc now? You kick off your shoes, discard your jacket, and change into sweats and one of Steven’s white shirts. Jake politely looks away, but you can see him sneaking the occasional glance at you through his lashes. You don’t mind. If you did, you wouldn’t be changing in front of him.
You flop onto the bed then fix your gaze on Jake. You nod to the empty spot beside you. It takes him a minute, but he changes into his own pajamas and settles next to you, turning off the lights as he lays down. You’re like two stupid teenagers who can’t communicate, but there’s something just a little bit fun to the whole thing.
There’s plenty of space between you. You’re two idiots laying on your backs, staring at the ceiling, with at least a foot of empty sheets separating you. It’s ridiculous. You set your hand in the space between you, palm up, and wait.
His fingers brush your wrist first, hesitating then moving lower across your palm until finally, finally he interlaces your fingers with his. His thumb traces tiny circles against your skin. You can’t help but smile, and though you’re curious to see his expression you resist the temptation to look, not that you’d be able to see him in the dark anyway.
Jake reminds you of Marc. Like Marc, you worry Jake might be scared off by too much affection too fast, might believe himself to be unworthy of your love. Marc has already worked through that with you. Jake hasn’t. Plus he seems to be twice as stubborn. The last thing you want to do is drive him away.
The bed shifts as he turns his head to look at you. Jake has never fallen asleep with someone. Is he supposed to just hold your hand all night? Does he let go when you fall asleep? Should he cuddle you? Marc said you like that.
“Doing great, mate,” Steven says sincerely, trying to calm Jake’s racing thoughts.
He and Marc have been pushing Jake toward you for a while. Marc needs loved, touched, cared for. Steven too. Jake needs all of that more than both of them combined.
Touch-starved. That was the word Steven used to describe Jake once. For so long Jake only fronted when absolutely necessary to the system’s survival, and that didn’t give him much time to experience the soft things in life. Soft moments like falling asleep beside someone he loved were alien to Jake Lockley.
“Think of it like a hug, but laying on your side,” Marc adds.
“Do I look like I’ve hugged a lot of people?” Jake growls silently.
That makes Marc and Steven go silent; they know all too well that Jake has probably never hugged anyone. A moment later, they’re gone and it’s only Jake fronting.
Like a hug, he tells himself.
When Jake lets go of your hand it’s disappointing. You try in vain not to feel upset, after all, it’s more intimate than anything else you two had done. So when his hand touches your cheek, it actually startles you. He must have given control to Marc or Steven... except when you turn to meet his eyes in the dim light you are certain it’s Jake.
Your body follows your head so you are laying on your side and nose to nose on the same pillow as Jake. Without conscious thought you raise your hand to smooth away the worry lines on his face. He blinks at the touch, then leans forward to press his forehead to yours, your noses bumping gently, a few stray curls falling in your eyes.
When you don’t shy away that’s it for Jake. Any hesitation is gone as he wraps an arm around you and pulls you closer. He tangles your legs together, and in return, you toss an arms over his waist, accidentally finding bare skin with your fingers where his shirt has ridden up.
Goosebumps prick his skin. The position is intimate, the both of you pressed up against each other, not sure where one body begins and the other ends. But the real intimacy is in how your eyes lock and a rare smile graces Jake’s handsome face. He doesn’t smile for many people.
You tuck your head under his chin, nuzzling into his chest. His smile is so unexpected, so pretty that happy tears are pricking your eyes. You don’t want Jake to see that.
Only when he thinks you’re really asleep does he press a gentle kiss to the crown of your head, running his fingers across your temple and brow with a gentleness he didn’t know he possessed. You relish in his soft touches as you hold him tight and press your bodies as close together as you can.
“Buenas noches, amor,” Jake whispers and kisses your head again. “Duelces sueños. Sweet dreams.”

Here we go again Folks and today I'll be dissecting the popular topic of "Ruby isn't affected by anything across the volumes"
-I'm gonna be honest and say this claim is pretty much BS
Tumblr media
Volume 3
- Ruby falling to the ground in sadness after seeing Penny's Dismantled Body
> Was mortified by Pyrrha's Death at the hands of Cinder
Volume 4
In the DC Comics(which take place during the events of Vol 3-4)
Ruby showcases alot of uneasiness and self doubt
▪︎I.E being worried about how Yang felt back at the end of Volume 3
▪︎Believing that she herself can't go on without her team backing her up
▪︎Questioning if she can truly make the right choice
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"No One is truly alone".
"What you can do and Who you are-- These are Two very different things".
"No Person is Lesser for Being Alone,
You miss them but You aren't incomplete without them"
"They may bring Forth the Best in You
But the Best still Belongs to You".
- Episode 2 - Ruby is shown having Nightmares about the events of Volume 3
Vol 5
-After the battle with Tyrian, Ruby was upset that she indirectly got her uncle poisoned as well as not being so welcoming about team JNR joining her as the Problems got increasingly worses
"I should've never brought you guys into this"
Tumblr media
But the Most powerful scene in this Volume for Ruby is her talk with Oscar
Where she tells him that how distraught she felt about Pyrrha's and Penny's Deaths & wished she could've gotten to know them better
Proclaiming that if she were have died, Pyrrha and Penny would try to keep fighting no matter the obstacle
As she then says that moving forward is what she has to do in order to protect who she cherishes left
Which parallels Issue #6 of the Comics
"Even When it's Hard---
--Just Live".
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which leads to the 2nd Strongest scene for Volume 5 Ruby
Tumblr media
The Letter Scene
"Believe me when I say I know it can feel impossible. Like every single day is a struggle against some unstoppable monster we can never hope to beat. But we have to try…"
As Ruby is writing a letter to Yang about how although the World may seem bleak and while things may be painful in the long run, With the right people working together for a good cause can make an extraordinary change no matter how small it seems at first
Also Ruby LITERALLY TEARS UP DURING THIS SCENE
The Silver Eyes Activated after Ruby had a PTSD flashback of Pyrrha's Death when Jaune was going to clash with Cinder in the battle of Haven
■ Ruby was seen shocked by Weiss's fatal injury from Cinder's Spear strike
Volume 6
■ Felt a little Betrayed by Ozpin's Secret after Jinn revealed the Truth
■ Her Silver Eyes Activated When Blake was almost at death's door against the Apathy
■ Confronted Qrow about his lack of willingness to keep moving forward during "Lost" & "Stealing from the Elderly" Episode
Wanting him to view Team RJNR as people who can fight alongside him instead of just being a bunch of children who needs to be protected
"Just because you don't have an idea, doesn't mean we're out of options! Oz hasn't been here to tell us what to do, but we still managed to get this far anyway. We've been in bad situations before, and we don't need an adult to come save us or tell us what to do. We just did it our way! And I say we do it our way. And if you think you can keep up with us "kids"... we'd be happy to have you"
"We're all in this together, and we're all going to do the best we can. That's all anyone can do. And I know it's what you've always aimed for. We would've come whether or not you'd let us, so stop talking like we're your responsibility! We're not! But we could still use Qrow Branwen on our side"
Volume 7-8
■ Immediately felt guilty about lying to Ironwood about the Other stuff that happen with Ozpin
■ During Her Talk with Qrow, She even questions if she even knows what she has been doing was the correct decision
■ Ruby pleads Harriet in the "Ace Ops vs Team Rwby" to stand down and join her team in saving the citizens
■ Stood in Confusion and shock after witnessing a Silver Eyed Grimm Hybrid
■ in Volume 8 Finale,
Ruby is seen shedding a tear during her fight with Neo(Supposedly as a result of Yang's death)
---> in the Vol 9 sneak peek it showcases Ruby's POV where she was having constant anxiety attacks throughout the fight against Cinder
And in the Volume 9 Chapter 1 Sneak Peek Clip
Ruby breaks down and Cries to herself reflecting upon the events that have transpired
So Yeah I think this pretty much sums up how much these events have had an Impact on Ruby's emotions
(She ain't just Happy all the time and Ignores all the tragedy, if anything she tries using it as a Coping Mechanism of some sort in order to move forward & keep her mind away from the Darkness)
Hope yall Enjoy

A super cute headcanon I've been having since I rewatched RWBY until a few weeks ago.
Ever since volume 5, Weiss became a hug monster. Behind the scenes, she's this touch-starved bitch who hugs her teammates before bedtime. She quickly climbed the ranking and became the 2nd most huggable person in the group (including JNOR) after Yang.
And the best past is, everybody loves that. If you go a day without getting a Weisshug, your day feels incomplete. Because Weiss was a child repressed off of affections and loves, she grew up to be so full of them, and now they're uncontained, so shen she hugs them, it's a bit too pure and very warm and lovely. Like a haven of joy and innocence. Ruby loves that, Blake loves that, Yang loves that, everybody does, Nora calm down a bit when she receives a Weisshug.
The first time Oscar received his first Weisshug it felt like a mother's love. He almost cried. And then Emerald too, poor girl was so overwhelmed, she stayed up the whole night rambling to Oscar and they just sit there exchanging experience on getting the Weisshug.
Because v8 when Weiss made it her personal mission to cater to Nora like a mother, a big sister or whatever, was so pure and caring and loving, just gives me this idea.
Ruby hugs her tighter and she hums in contentment. Blake hugs her a bit loosely, and she nuzzles into her white hair and purr. Yang hugs her like a protective sister and a kiss to her temple. And they all tell her "good night, I love you". They never miss. They always make sure Weiss goes to sleep knowing that she's loved.
Let me have this, CRWBY. LET ME HAVE THIS.

(just gonna put my thoughts on the dune movie in one post so it’s less annoying hopefully)
there were a few things I was kinda disappointed by: I thought the costumes were pretty boring generally (tho I sort of liked the guild members’ kinda astronaut looking things) especially the harkonnens’. also the harkonnens were just rlly boring in general but ig they didn’t have much screen time plus without the stuff w feyd there wasn’t much for them to do beyond the attack on Arakkis. Piter had basically no screen time which sucked but i had sorta expected that so I wasn’t too upset. But I was definitely more upset (and surprised) by how little they focused on Yueh?? I liked his character a lot in the book and I thought he had an interesting story but they like didn’t even develop his character at all and just had him explain why he betrayed them with one line rlly quickly… Gurney halleck felt very soldiery and not very… poet-y or fun (and he didn’t get to play any music 😔). I rlly liked Liet and Thufir tho, I wished there was more of them too. I liked how the ornithopters looked. Also very glad they took out weird pedophilia stuff w the baron from the book (cuz wtf was that seriously). I liked that they showed salusa secundus for a little bit. The bene gesserit theme song goes so hard. oscar isaac was shirtless at one point. Plus worms :) (their teeth made them look kinda leech-like which I thought was cool). In terms of like… overall story and themes or whatever I honestly don’t rlly know what to say because… it just feels so incomplete. and I know this is just part 1 so I guess I can’t rlly blame the movie for that? idk. I don’t think this movie rlly said anything if u know what I mean, but I also don’t feel like it’s at a point where it COULDN’T say anything interesting if they develop all the themes that they set up. The whole movie just rlly felt like set up I guess. so yeah

Watts: We are here to witness the union of Emerald and Mercury in the eyes of, well, whatever power you choose. Personally I find the notion of choosing to be needlessly limited. What if science and religion were mine to wield as I choose? What if I'm God? It is likely that I'm not, but I think it's totally out of line to take that possibility off the table. Now I understand vows have been written.
Mercury: Emerald, when I first saw you, looking at you made me feel good. Touching you, felt better and knowing you made me realize that without you, I, I am incomplete.
Mercury: (gestures to his prosthetic legs) Now I know I look pretty complete-
Tyrian: (cackles evilly in the audience)
Mercury: Somebody laughed at that in the wrong way. (turns to Emerald) You are my body and soul. You are-
The Hound: (swoops in carrying Oscar in it's mouth, joined by Salem and Hazel)
Watts: Welcome! Everyone back there, you're welcome. Please join us.
Watts: (whispers in aside to Mercury) Any of those people could be God. That unconscious kid; he could be God...

Ok so in the story about Matt you said Lefty found Spring Jr is it ok if we get a short story about Lefty finding them and everyone reaction's to the bab
“You're a strange little creature...”
Lefty was trying to prompt a response from the little Bunny he found, the Bunny in a sense reminded him of SpringBonnie, but with more greenish fur and silver eyes, it also was the size of an infant.
It also was covered by blood and it smelt weird.
The smell reminded Lefty of a dead body.
Having a sensitive nose, he easily sniffed the odour and saw the little guy across the road, wandering without purpose, Lefty quickly realised it didn’t just look like a kid sized SpringBonnie.
It acted like one.
Not being aware of road surroundings.
Lefty had a sneaking suspicion it smelt like Fazbear Entertainment's brand of supernatural bullshit, and being a kid too, so he followed the kid, trying to lure it out of the street and into the house, worried a human would see it and immediately call the police, or worse the little one could get run over by a car.
He had to bribe in the end, retrieving a bag of Candy, he was thankful Halloween wasn’t so long ago, so he was able to get out the leftover sweets and used them to draw the kid inside.
Once inside, Lefty locked the door, trapping the kid, but he— well Lefty assumed it was a male, if it had a gender— didn’t seem too worried and actually looked at Lefty like he expected more food, probably haven’t eaten in while, so Lefty was happy to offer food.
He wouldn’t live with the smell however, Lefty didn’t realise how bad it was until later, when he felt queasy and realised he couldn’t focus on washing the dishes.
So he geared himself up, getting rubber gloves, the custom gas mask he wore to block out smells, which covered his nose, mouth and lenses over his eyes, and he approached the child, almost like it was ticking time bomb to defuse.
He didn’t put up a fight to being lifted up and taken upstairs.
He didn’t even fight when he saw Lefty fill the bath.
In fact he looked curious.
Lefty wondered if he had never seen water before.
Regardless, he didn’t know where it came from, but he treated it like a child since it had obviously child behaviours.
Now Lefty was washing him in the bath, the water wasn’t deep, and Lefty was holding one hand to hold him while using the other to scrub around.
Lefty already emptied the water once because it turned red within two minutes.
Now Lefty was washing out the lotion he used to clean the skin of the sticky residue, wondering what it even was, he thought it looked like a bodily fluid but he wasn’t sure and didn’t dwell on it.
The bunny seem to enjoy the bath, trying to splash in the water, even trying to eat the bubbles that formed.
Lefty tried to think of where this thing came from, reasoning this thing didn’t appear to be something that was built.
But rather born.
And that should be impossible, as Lefty knew, they can’t reproduce.
But this thing could be a parasite... and if that's the case... I’m obligated to destroy it.
The bunny didn’t look bad in the slightest.
No one is born good or evil, he knew that, I'll search for whoever made you... but it's best if you live with me... living on the streets is not only dirty but dangerous.
With that decided, Lefty took him out of the bath, he brought out a towel and wrapped him up, debating where he could possibly sleep.
“So what is it?”
Breakfast was quite a spectacle for all, aside from the fact Lefty made French Toast
Lefty had set down Spring Jr, as he named him, on the sofa, he had obtained a spoon that he was using like a pacifier, much to Lefty's annoyance.
Lefty grabbed the handle, trying to pull it out of his mouth, while the kids watched him playing tug of war with a little bunny.
“I don’t know... I found it... I feel like it has Fazbear Entertainment written all over it...” Lefty answered.
“God, I’m sick of bull...” Alec huffed.
He knew they were all sick of the nonsense, considering everything that happened, like curses, killer animatronics, body swapping, possession, and sentient robots.
“I am honestly too... I’ve been debating...”
“Debating what?” Greg asked.
“Technically... I can quit... when we were made, Henry actually got us our own power of attorney in a nutshell.”
“You have a lawyer?” Millie questioned, surprised by the fact.
“All of us do, so Fazbear Entertainment can’t legally make us do anything we don’t want to... and I think it annoys them a lot... the only thing is... where would I get a job somewhere else? I mean it would be a pain but I could work somewhere else, it'd take a lot of effort, I think they pay us so we aren’t tempted to leave...”
“You can open your own restaurant,” Alec said, Lefty couldn’t tell if he was joking, “Seriously, you're a great cook and you are very patient.”
“I don’t know about it... but back to this... I'm going to sneak around the Archives... this is what I'd like you to do... watch this Bunny.”
“Well it seems calm... aside from the fixation on the spoon...” Oscar added.
“I might need to find something better for it to chew on, like a soft toy...”
“A tennis ball,” Greg immediately said, sounding serious.
Lefty laughed for a second, “How about no for now...” He finally pulled the drool covered spoon out of his mouth.
Lefty brought some stuff back and was studying it, he was reading some “confidential” documents, to which he found laughable how easy it was to take without getting caught, seriously he once got inside houses that were more secure than that building, all he needed was to break the keypad out of the wall and connect the fuse to unlock the door.
He was sitting on the sofa, Spring Jr was at his side, he had found something new to chew on— the spatula, which wasn’t bad since Lefty didn’t have to use it for anything at the moment, Lefty had made dinner and everyone went to do their own things at this time. Alec was sitting next to him, using the TV to play a game, Lefty was sort of interested, Alec said the game was called “A Hat in Time”.
Lefty shifted though the forbidden knowledge, stopping when he saw something, he read it a few times before confirming something he didn’t know.
Fazbear Entertainment had made a game in the works.
A game called Springtrap's Revenge.
It sounded like it was based off William Afton, which Lefty thought was tasteless, considering everything that happened.
He knew the history and it could take hours trying to put it into a correct timeline, the basics were that an unknown of kids had been murdered, Lefty knew the most about the original six, but they were more he kept learning about, Ennard, an incomplete prototype was possessed by a child Lefty had no idea existed, as the kid had a bad foster family and he was never confirmed to be dead until recently.
It sicken Lefty, considering now he had kids, true they were older than all of William normal victims, but Lefty considered himself a fiercely protective parent, and he had actually gone against people who threaten his kids, nothing violent, enough to teach them a lesson.
Lefty's phone lit up, as a message came in, Lefty thought it might be Fetch asking for treats but saw Mr Emily instead and immediately looked at it.
“Plan was success, we aren’t associated with Fazbear Entertainment anymore.”
Lefty smiled, he waited for this day, as did everyone.
Now they could hopefully stay to pull away from the tragedies and evil.
The foundation was corrupt.
But the future was bright.
Considering Lefty had a family now too.
He stopped working and watched Alec playing his game, he wasn’t one for video games, but having a teenager who was kind of obsessed with games (Alec did still study and did chores), Lefty got interested in the games, as a result, he had actually made good memories being a second player with Alec, laughing and smiling.
“We still have to find out where you came from...” Lefty muttered looking at Spring JR.
He then watched Alec for a few minutes before saying, “So you collect like little hourglasses in this game?”
“Yes.”
Pause.
“I might get some ice cream, you want some?”
“Yes, please.”
“Daddy?”
“What?”
“Is it calling you Daddy?”
“No... it's looking outside and saying Daddy... like he lost his father or something...”
Pete and Chuck were watching Spring JR along with Lefty.
“I think it's creepy...”
“I have to wonder... who does this thing see as its Daddy?” Lefty muttered, “Regardless... I'll try my best with it... I need to find out what Springtrap's Revenge might be...”

qrow + Nora ( @magnhildsmight ) [incomplete]
“Do you ever…. think about where you’re from? Of if you might have family out there somewhere?” Arms fold across Nora’s chest, hugging herself tightly. “I… I try and remember but I just. I can’t. I don’t remember anything from before I met Ren and-“ Cutting herself off, she sighs again.
“sure… but by now i figure they’re long dead or don’t care,” qrow shrugs, blunt and aloof as ever, “never knew much aside from Raven m’self.” small hints that he understands what it’s like to be a person more half than whole.
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
“Far away, Long ago, Glowing dim as an ember, Things my heart Used to know Things it yearns to remember And a song someone sings, Once upon a December.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
“hey…” qrow says gently; rough and chiding, but low in volume. uncertain if he’s welcome - usually not, but he can’t stand someone so vibrant looking so glum. too much a reminder of his own hurts to see someone else wearing a thousand yard stare.
he escapes it for himself, he tries to make it better for them. even if he doesn’t know how, and isn’t very good at it.
“…aren’t ya a little young t’be soundin’ all nostalgic?”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
Nora’d thought she’d been alone, or at least alone enough that no one would hear her. Snapping out of… whatever that was, she looks down at the floor, rubbing the back of her neck.
“I umm… Probably, yeah.” She may not have even been two decades old yet, but with everything she’d been through she felt like she’d lived a thousand lifetimes already. “Sorry. If I disturbed you or something. Thought nobody was around…”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
“well, sometimes even a bad luck charm can manage t’be sneaky.”
sometimes too many twigs snap under his feet, or some other unfortunate sound. but not just now.
at least she sounds more like a kid again. even if a kid that’s had to grow up too fast and face things that only get harder from here. reassurances fall flat in this kind of situation, without something specific to address. qrow blows past apologies and murmured attempts to save face. none of that matters.
“got somethin’ t’get off your chest there, Sparks?”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
“I’m… not entirely sure, actually.” She goes quiet again, sighing. She chews on her bottom lip as she thinks about what she wants to say. Just how much she’s willing to talk about.
“Do you ever…. think about where you’re from? Of if you might have family out there somewhere?” Arms fold across her chest, hugging herself tightly. “I… I try and remember but I just. I can’t. I don’t remember anything from before I met Ren and-“ Cutting herself off, she sighs again. “Sorry, I’m rambling… it just. It bothers me sometimes, I guess. Doesn’t matter how much I tell myself it doesn’t.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
a grunt grumbles from qrow’s chest and rumbles in his throat without making it to his mouth. a small processing sound, as he learns more about Nora than he’s known before in a single statement. not that he hadn’t had a hunch about a trio of kids so easily able to pick up their lives and tag along with his niece, with no one even trying to make contact along the way.
part of what made him all the more protective of the whole group.
“sure… but by now i figure they’re long dead or don’t care,” he shrugs, blunt and aloof as ever, “never knew much aside from Raven m’self.”
small hints that he understands what it’s like to be a person more half than whole.
she looks small, cold. qrow sits down nearby, denies himself any notion of reaching out, but at least offers the warmth of a body beside her. sometimes it bothers him too, but he’s better at telling himself it shouldn’t. better at repressing. he’s had years to hone the skill. years to figure out how to swallow it all down and keep moving forward, years and…
settled in, he pulls his flask from his pocket and takes a sip. wets his lips for the talking, dampens his soul for the conversation. still holding it, his pointer finger extends and he gestures towards the girl - possibly poor advice emphasized with a sloshing sound,
“the way i see it, y’shouldn’t let the past define you anyway. s’what you do now, an’ th’ future you fight for that matters.”
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Tumblr media
“I know it doesn’t change who I am or anything but…” Her ears drooped as she sighed, pulling her knees to her chest and wrapping her arms around them. “I just… I guess I’m just curious is all. And with us going to Atlas, it’s… I dunno.”
She put her chin on her knees, chewing on her bottom lip. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d let anyone see her this vulnerable. She was always the one who pushed through everything, no matter how bad it got, and did so with a smile on her face.
Nora had to admit, that was getting a lot harder these days.
“I guess I’m just afraid of what I might find there.”
She shook her head. It didn’t matter what kind of ‘family’ she had, if any, there. She was with her family. Ren. Jaune. Ruby. Oscar. She’d even started considering Weiss, Blake and Yang a part of that. Qrow too.

RWBY vs. AceOps - Alone Together
Tumblr media
One of the big reasons I’m super hyped for the Team RWBY vs. Ace-Ops fight next episode is that this fight has a number of elements that we haven’t actually seen since Volume 3.
For one, it’s the first time since V3 that we’ve had a proper Team V. Team fight. We had a number of good team fights in Volume 3, and we really haven’t had any since. The closest we got was the Haven fight, and I think we can all agree that was a total mess. Partly due to how awkwardly balanced each side was; Two incomplete teams (RWY and JNR) plus two extras (Qrow and Oscar) versus an almost random assortment of bad guys. This time we’ve got a properly balanced Team vs. Team set up.
Second, this is the first time since Volume 3 we’ve gotten a fully assembled Team RWBY against human opponents. Since coming back together, the only fights where Team RWBY are all present (Argus Limited fight, Brunswick, Leviathan, Dust Mine) have been against Grimm. The two big fights against people in Volume 6 (Adam and Cordo) were done with Team RWBY split up. Like I said before, this is the first time in a while we’ve had Team RWBY all together for one of these big dramatic fights.
Tumblr media
Finally, and what I find the most interesting point, this is the first time since Volume 3 that we’ve had what I’d call a ‘Pure’ Team RWBY fight. In all those fights I mentioned earlier where Team RWBY is all together, they’ve always had others fighting with them, whether it be Qrow, JNR, Maria or the Ace-Ops. The fact is, Team RWBY has had a LOT of friends and allies backing them up these past two volumes. I mean, just look at that group shot at the end of the V7 opening.
Tumblr media
But not here. In this fight, there is no backup from any friends with comparable or more experience. It’s just Team RWBY.
This is a scenario I’ve actually been hoping to see for a while now. I certainly don’t mind the presence and focus characters like Qrow, Oscar and JNR have gotten in the past two volumes, but I also can’t help but feel like them being around has made things a bit too easy for our heroines. Remember, at the start of Volume 6, our protagonists had a Nine-person party, and those numbers have only swelled since then.
This was the big reason I was really hyped to see the party split up at the start of Volume 6. Without JNR present, in particular the major support fighters of Jaune and Ren, it felt like Team RWBY had lost quite a bit of a proverbial ‘safety net’ that would make whatever obstacles they encountered all the more challenging, and I would argue that Team JNR’s absence was one of the big reasons the Brunswick arc was as good as it was. By a similar token, I think one of the big reasons the fight against Adam is so tense and nerve-wracking is because it’s just Blake and Yang fighting him, with no backup from anyone but each other.
And it’s the same in this fight. No backup, no assistance. It’s just Team RWBY.
I know a lot of people are going to be expecting Qrow or any of RWBY’s other allies to swoop in to help them against the Ace-Ops, but personally I hope that doesn’t happen. I can’t help but feel that having others helping out just holds this team back a bit. Like it gets in the way of the amazing synergy and teamwork we saw in the fights against the Nevermore in Volume 1 or the Paladin Volume 2.
Tumblr media
Team RWBY’s had help for a while now. I think it’s about time we saw them stand on their own.
(Also, if we DON’T see Ruby calling out Mark-2 versions of Freezerburn, Checkmate, Ladybug, Bumblebee and Ice Flower in this fight, I will be very disappointed!)

Thoughts & Review on V7C12
This is my personal review for the latest chapter of RWBY. I tried to keep my points objective and organized, and to not take too much time discussing each, and I would sincerely appreciated if it could be given a read. Thank you if you do read it.
Well. It’s finally happened.
After a hazy but relatively positive start, I can say that Chapter 12 is yet another tipping point in a direction. The last chapters of Volume 6 were certainly… A lot, but compared to this one, Volume 6 pales in comparison. This one is… A doozy for several reasons. Let me preface by saying this: I love this show.
I sincerely adore it and the characters, and the reason I’m writing this think piece is precisely because of that. Because it could be so much better, it could be truly a love letter towards Fantasy, anime, and its fandom… But the writers specifically seem to not know how to balance that… But enough ranting. Off to the meatier sections, which I will progressively go from what I liked the most to what I liked the least.
Penny & Winter Scenes
This was, by far, the best written scenes in the episode, and coming from an unlikely pair of friends. Penny has always been emotional despite being a robot while Winter, despite being human, has always acted mechanical. This episode provides a nice contrast between the two, with Penny emphasizing with Winter and trying to get through to her only for Winter to refute her claims, but doing so with a sadness to her face because deep inside she knows James Ironwood’s plan is flawed. In a way, one acts as the other should, but doesn’t. Their awkward but working friendship makes that its mold and comfortably rests atop it.
It’s flawed, but realistically, it’s the best option to take over having to fight Salem with depleted and exhausted forces. The two play off one another marvelously, and this keeps up until Cinder’s entrance (which is another point I’ll discuss later) and the entire time they keep up this great dynamic. Penny asking if it’s going to hurt Fria to transfer her Aura directly to Winter, only for her to once more act as Penny’s foil and say that it doesn’t matter. The only thing that matters is following orders and keeping the Relic and Maiden Powers safe.
Team ORNJ Scenes
Thankfully this time, it doesn’t take an entire episode to figure out where Oscar is. Frankly, there isn’t much to talk about here, but what little there is of it is good! A problem is established, and then it’s swiftly solved by Neopolitan’s confidence only for everything to fall apart when the real Oscar appears, confirming he wasn’t taken away but had been actually fighting solo against Neopolitan for the lamp.
It establishes he’s no longer the wimp he once was and is making full use of Ozpin’s cane, but I honestly do feel like it was mostly a cat-and-mouse game with Neopolitan stealing the lamp and him chasing after her, because I don’t think he could’ve beaten her on his own. Team ORNJ then sets up to fight Neopolitan, spicing up the fight between them that’s going to take place in the upcoming chapter.
(Upcoming) Neopolitan vs. Team ORNJ
There honestly isn’t much to talk about this regarding on what happened in the episode, but what it did amazingly is set up the fight. We know Neopolitan is an experienced fighter, and strong enough to go toe-to-toe with Cinder without her using her Fall Maiden powers. We also know that Jaune and Ren aren’t the strongest fighters, but they can still hold their own, and them accompanied by Oscar who is slightly below-average but still powerful enough to hold his own and Nora who is, now that Pyrrha’s gone, the strongest member of what remains of Team JNPR, I think the battle between them and our favorite ice cream girl is going to be a highlight of this season, especially with how it was set-up.
Cinder’s Entrance
This is when we start to get into the ‘meh’ section of this episode. Cinder is usually compelling in small doses, but extremely dull, boring and irritable in extended scenes due to how confident, smug and self-assured she is despite her multiple failures ever since the Fall of Beacon. But from a writing perspective, she was amazing. She showed how fearsome she is yet again and that her cleverness is part of her character and not just a plot device. She sent Ironwood into a paranoia and then tracked Winter knowing he’d send her after Fria.
Now, the only thing I don’t get, but this might be just me having forgotten, is if there was one point in which Cinder actually learned Winter was the next candidate to be the Winter Maiden… After all, prior to this point, Cinder had never met or encountered Winter or even less have known of her affiliation with Ironwood in the sense that she is her second-in-command. I have difficulty following that thread of logic… Unless Neopolitan told her at some point? I don’t know. Not knowing is what makes me ‘meh’ about this scene.
Clover, Qrow & Tyrian’s Fight
Taking away the connotations and context from the fight and looking at it purely from a choreography perspective, the fight was amazing and showed all of the fighter’s individual styles and strengths. As per usual, Tyrian was shown as crazed and psychopathic. There is no rhyme, reason or logic to his moves, and therefore there is no pattern or proper way to attack other than improvise. Qrow was versatile in using both his hand-to-hand skills and Harbinger to get the job done, but who stands up the most to me is Clover.
Clover really shows why he’s the leader of the AceOps. He was strategic in using Kingfisher to constantly tie-up Tyrian a few times (I cannot remember if he caught Qrow though) and managed to actually keep up with both of them for a long time! Had it not been for Tyrian’s interference while Clover and Qrow spoke, well… I’ll mention that later. But the point is, Clover was an absolute king in the battlefield and despite his weapon being a fishing rod, he was able to use it tremendously.
Furthermore, what surprised me the most is the fact Qrow and Tyrian worked so well together. They made-up for each other’s flaws whenever Clover had one of them against the ropes, and this surprises me even more considering the fact Tyrian was responsible for Qrow’s closest brush with death. It was… Surprisingly bittersweet.
(Upcoming) Cinder vs. Penny & Winter
Nothing much to talk about here given that this hasn’t yet happened, but as per usual Cinder is flaunting and showing off her power while severely underestimating her opponents. It has been approximately three years since she last saw Penny and since she was rebuilt stronger than before, not to mention the combat experience she’s accrued defending Mantle from the Creatures of Grimm and the occasional bandit and the like.
Winter has also presumably gotten stronger since then, but the scope of her abilities are still unknown since she only engaged in combat once and it was against Qrow all the way back in Volume 3. There’s so many ideas up in the air regarding this upcoming fight that nothing’s stopping me from theorizing Fria will wake up and use her Winter Maiden abilities to kick the snot out of Cinder.
But I am looking forward to what the fight has to offer. I don’t think any of them will die though. Cinder is still too important to the plot as are Penny and Winter for as long as the setting is Atlas.
Clover, Qrow, Robyn & Tyrian Scenes
Yeah. This whole encounter was… It wasn’t exactly ‘bad’ but I felt like the characters here acted completely out of character. Well, sans for Tyrian of course, given that at his core, he is simply a psychopath.
Clover has always been one who acted as one of the most morally-upstanding member of the AceOps as well as the one who was, arguably, given the most screen time. But for some reason, this episode had him betray everything he stood for and wanted to arrest Qrow even though Qrow… Well, what did Qrow even do for Ironwood to want him arrested? That’s another minor nitpick I have about the situation. But with how closely Clover and Qrow had bonded, you’d think he’d try and make sense of the situation instead of acting as a drone even though before he had never done so.
Robyn went from a pragmatic and understanding leader-like figure to, well… Whatever that was. I sincerely can’t understand her character because she isn’t cohesive at all. The only trait about her that remains is her loyalty to Mantle… But that’s it. One moment she’s against Ironwood, the next moment she’s siding with him… Then she sides against him and then once more sides with him. It’s honestly very boring and for someone who is supposed to be based on Robin Hood, she’s never done anything Robin Hood-esque. Even her aesthetic doesn’t match him. She feels like an incomplete character and the only side of her we see is a temperamental, indecisive leader. She couldn’t even tell it wasn’t Penny who attacked her at the election party even though almost every single part of her, weapons included, are bioluminescent. It’s frustrating, really. She should’ve known something was wrong from the get-go when Ironwood gave the order instead of immediately resorting to blind anger.
Qrow… There has never been an instance in the show when Qrow reacted with direct violence ever since Volume 3 while he was drunk. He saw Robyn attack Clover first and decided that he was going to attack Clover when he was the one being assaulted. Robyn and Qrow, as far as I know, never even had a single interaction together one-on-one, and even if he did, he’s always been one to stand against wrongdoings despite his shady demeanor. It honestly sucked seeing him being so out of character this entire chapter because he is a fan-favorite and for good reason. He has had a good amount of development. But he acted on violence instead of simply sitting down and having a talk with both Clover and Robyn. It simply didn’t make sense to me.
AceOps vs. Team RWBY
Just like before, I will focus entirely on an unbiased analysis of how this fight went and criticizing the things that particularly stood out for me whether bad or good. I’ll also be dividing this into subsections because it’s going to be a more direct and easier way for me to do so, and in case anyone’s reading this, that way they can skip ahead to their favorite fight. I watched this battle several times in an attempt to breakdown as best I could. So, let’s start with the main show and the one we saw the most of:
Ruby Rose vs. Harriet Bree
Arguably the most balanced fight out of the four short ones we saw. While I am apprehensive of aspects such as Ruby’s Semblance being able of breaking through iron barricades so easily despite never having alluded or shown her Semblance doing something like that before… I can give it a pass if anything because it made the environment more malleable. Despite that, however, I did like the fast paced match between the fastest members of their respective teams. It’s a very fast battle, but we can see it fully and what we see… Is a fight in which Ruby is on the defensive the entire time, and a battle she should’ve completely lost.
Ruby landed exactly zero hits on Harriet. Zero. Well… Not entirely. She does push Harriet down once but Ruby… Isn’t good at hand-to-hand combat and it’s been shown time over time that she’s not very physically strong so I’d hardly say that counts as a hit… But it does happen. Yet we’re supposed to believe that she was taken out by running into an ice wall created by Weiss at the last moment and that her Aura broke from that? Harriet landed exactly 5 very powerful attacks on Ruby and yet her Aura never even budged. I find that hard to believe. First Ruby got kicked on the face with enough strength to send her flying towards an elevator and break the doors off the wall.
Then he got double-kicked by Harriet on the gut and sent flying back. Then she got punched right on her back by Harriet’s weapon, Fast Knuckles, which are basically Yang’s gauntlets. An attack like that should’ve, at least, done significant damage to her Aura given it was strong enough to buckle her legs and crash her against the floor, which in and of itself should count as another impact given how hard she hit it. Then after that, Ruby got headbutted on the face by Harriet and then choked on the neck by Harriet with her legs and once again slammed with tremendous force on the floor. But her Aura is unscathed for some reason?
Then in comes Weiss, puts an ice wall in front of Harriet for her to crash into, and somehow that takes her down and breaks her Aura. Objectively, this battle was amazing, but Ruby never even once had the advantage. Ruby should’ve been knocked out by Harriet when her Aura broke, but for some reason… That didn’t happen. Good choreography, however.
Weiss Schnee vs. Marrow Armin
I frankly can say this one was expertly choreographed as well. We finally get to see a fight in which Weiss gets to use her Semblance at its full capacity, and this time she doesn’t abuse ice dust only. While it’s still in the vast majority of her attacks, she also relies on fire dust, which does add a degree of excitement and a fresh take to her battle style. Not to mention she now isn’t as reliant on the Arma Gigas only. It was a good balanced diet of everything Weiss can do! There still was very little of her in actual close-quarters combat, but that’s never been her specialty. She’s more of a mid-ranged fighter than anything else with lots of tricks and gimmicks. As for Marrow– well, Marrow… Could’ve made things so much easier if he had used his Semblance effectively.
When it comes to the battle itself though it was… Very lackluster on Marrow’s end, but then again it is heavily-implied by Harriet that he’s not fighting seriously at all and was purposefully holding back, so perhaps the fact he was defeated so easily really isn’t that hard to believe considering his heart wasn’t on the fight and even then he still put up a good fight. But like with Harriet… I find his Aura breaking so easily to be… Weird? He only got hit one time by Weiss’ homing fire dust… Flames? Bullets? Rays? I don’t know what to call it, but he got hit just once with Weiss’ dust and I don’t really count it as a hit but he got pushed to the wall once, but nowhere with near the same intensity as Ruby getting slammed and thrashed all over the environment by Harriet.
But ultimately while it is a nice fight… Again, I find Marrow going down to a single attack borderline offensive and humiliating for one of the members of the AceOps, but then again this was the only battle that felt like a member of Team RWBY deserved to win, and that’s saying something given Weiss’ battle track record isn’t exactly the cleanest and she’s lost the most fights out of any Team RWBY member when it comes to one-on-one encounters.
Blake Belladonna & Yang Xiao Long vs. Elm Ederne & Vine Zeki
Honestly, this is probably the best fight out of the ones regarding Team RWBY vs. the AceOps. It is nice to see this fight’s choreography because it was quite enjoyable. It was very dynamic and there was a lot of movement which made it flow just like a river of water, but there were also… Lots of inconsistencies regarding the character’s power levels and how they performed in this fight, especially regarding Elm and Vine who, from an objective standpoint if one sits down and analyzes the fight as I did, it’s also easy to tell that… Elm and Vine should’ve won.
While it’s disappointing that we didn’t get to see Vine’s weapon in this final bout, we did see Blake and Yang working together as well as Elm and Vine despite their personality conflicts. There really wasn’t a lot of team coordinating, but both sides performed admirably. Yang & Elm with their brawn and ferocity as well as Blake & Vine with their strategic minds and nimbleness. Now… While I can only praise the dynamics, the battle was, again, stacked against Blake and Yang. Like I did with the battle between Ruby and Harriet, I went through this one thoroughly and counted the amount of hits each character received.
Yang landed a total of three direct blows against Elm. A punch to the face that sent Elm staggering back a few steps, and then she didn’t land a single hit on Elm until she punched the ground with her Semblance, destroying it and sending her flying, but this doesn’t count as a hit because Elm wasn’t harmed when Yang did this. She was only sent flying in mid-air and then Yang and Blake both delivered a single attack on Elm before she fell to the floor, shattering her Aura. Now, we know Elm is basically the Yang of the group, except bigger, stockier and presumably stronger, so with how tough she’s been portrayed up until now, that she was defeated so swiftly surprises me… Especially when she herself beat Yang down to the point her Aura should’ve broken as well.
First she headbutted Yang, knocking her off-balance and later swinging her hammer with enough strength to send Yang, the strongest and bulkiest member of Team RWBY, flying a considerable distance with her massive hammer. This didn’t happen just once, twice or thrice though. Elm hit Yang on the chest with Timber, her hammer, four times, and every single time she was sent flying. We’ve seen the ridiculous feats of strength Nora Valkyrie’s performed with Magnhild. Well, Elm is at least twice stronger than Nora. The fact Yang’s Aura never even budged despite getting hammered on the chest with the heaviest and most powerful hammer we’ve seen in the show is beyond me. It doesn’t help that she got also hit directly by Vine with a rock the size of her entire body and pushed back. If anything, Elm and Yang’s fight is the most balanced one so Elm being defeated is not the issue. The issue is how despite receiving double the punishment, Yang’s Aura never broke while Elm’s broke with just three hits that didn’t pack the same punch and power all of Elm’s attacks which connected did.
Now regarding Blake’s encounter with Vine… Like Ruby with Harriet, Blake landed a total of zero hits against both Elm and Vine. Coincidentally, however, Blake also was also hit the most in this battle to the point her Aura actually did break. Why only her’s though is not something I can answer. I could describe how Blake got hit, but two of those times she got crushed by Vine’s Semblance and slammed against the wall twice, the second time enough to break the wall as well, and the one time she got hammered on the chest by Elm with enough strength to send her several feet on the air, which likely hurt a whole lot since every single one of Elm’s hits pack two massive punches. Now if any of you are curious about how many hits Vine took before his Aura broke…
It was one. He got sent flying to the ground by Yang and his Aura broke. I don’t count the explosives that detonated near him because he was using his Semblance to hold onto them, reducing the explosion’s power and size, but it still destabilized him and sent him careening to the air for Yang to grab. But Yang’s explosives aren’t exactly the strongest anyways so even if they did do some damage, it was still extremely minuscule damage for his Aura to break from a single hit like Marrow’s did. It was honestly disappointing, especially after we got to witness how strong they truly are by perfectly fighting against a Geist in the earliest episodes of the Volume.
My overall rating of the fight is that, objectively, it was amazingly choreographed… But the power level in RWBY is still awful and largely-irrelevant, since there is no instance in which Team RWBY will actually lose a fight even if throughout the encounter they are taking more hits than their opposition. This is an issue they still need to fix…
Team RWBY’s ‘Plan’
This one is… Upsetting. Even more so than the above because, at this point, Team RWBY is devoid of any and all potential consequences of their actions, and frankly I’m tired of it. Ever since Volume 6 their ‘plans’ if they can even be called that, have been compromising even more things for the sake of their so-called righteousness. In Volume 6 they endangered all of Argus and attacked an entire military base, and to this day they’ve suffered exactly zero consequences for their actions. If anything, they got rewarded for their criminal activity by getting a free pass to Atlas. Ironwood didn’t even look in their direction after they did that too. All for their selfish righteousness too, which in most occasions isn’t even right. They just do whatever they can even if it comes at the cost of other’s safety as long as it serves them
Now they even refuse to even see where Ironwood is coming from. They don’t offer him help, all they do is judge him and criticize him both to his back and in front of him and only side with him when it benefits them. They are, physically, mentally and emotionally incapable of sympathizing with others yet they want others to sympathize with them and their hypocrisy only continues to go rewarded. The narrative is very obviously in their favor and attempts to sway the viewers into thinking Ironwood is the villain for… Doing the only few remaining things he can do to try and keep not just Atlas and the Mantle survivors safe, but all of the world. They don’t even bother to see his point. At no moment during that confrontation do they go ‘we see your point and where you’re coming from, but that’s just playing into Salem’s hands and we can’t do that.’ No, all they do is yell at him and tell him he’s wrong, that he’s an awful person.
They don’t see the greater scheme. All they see are their own lofty ideals. They physically cannot save all the people of Mantle. They physically cannot keep the Lamp and the Staff, and they certainly, at this point in time, physically stop Salem if she is coming. They need ships to save the people of Mantle, they need to be on guard duty to protect the Staff and the Lamp. They need to keep Fria safe to keep the Winter Maiden powers from being robbed, but how are they physically going to do that? By ‘standing their ground?’ That is such a nonsensical, idyllic solution. They can’t do all of those things, but somehow, someway, they are ‘right’ because they want to do ‘the right thing.’ Except. There is no right thing thing to do. Not everything is as black and white as they want it to be. And every single time they do this and experience zero consequences while reaping many rewards for their hypocritical and catastrophic reckless decisions, the more faith I lose in the writers and the show.
Team RWBY defeating the AceOps
Like I said above, this was something I really didn’t enjoy… As I’ve mentioned above, it seems Team RWBY’s recklessness and inconsiderate behavior that endangers far more lives than they save will always go rewarded, and here is no different. I’ve gone through the battle several times and the only fight which deserved to be won by a member of Team RWBY was Weiss’ battle against Marrow, and this was largely because Marrow was holding back and implied he could push Weiss more against the ropes if he wanted to. Not to mention that it was due to Marrow’s hesitation Team RWBY even had a fighting chance. Had he used his Semblance at the very beginning he could’ve frozen all of Team RWBY where they were and have them apprehended immediately because they’d be unable to move.
Besides that one, the only other one who could’ve gone in Team RWBY’s favor is Yang’s fight against Elm, but even so it was… 75/25 in Elm’s favor. But the proof is in the animation, and it shows Elm landing far more attacks on Yang than Yang ever did on her, but since Team RWBY’s victory is required for the plot to progress, they were able to defeat the AceOps. Blake’s fight against Vine and Ruby’s fight against Harriet is not something I can even justify if I tried to do so because it was entirely one-sided on the AceOps’ favor. I try to give a lot of leverage to the show and its writing, but I cannot suspense my disbelief for such a one-sided fight, especially when the AceOps dished out punishment after punishment for Team RWBY and none of their Auras broke nor did they look even remotely tired while the AceOps all went down with two-to-three hits that I find hard to believe would take down the most elite Hunters in all of the Atlas continent.
We don’t know the AceOps’ members’ age, but what we do know is that they’ve been serving directly under James Ironwood for years now, and as the most elite, that makes them the strongest military platoon in all of Atlas with several years long specialized training years under their age while Team RWBY received not even a year of formal training at Beacon Academy and fought some Creatures of Grimm on the way to Mistral, had very limited and minor training under Ozma/Ozpin and then had small bouts against Salem and Raven’s forces in the Battle for Haven. Then after that they faced off against more Creatures of Grimm on the way to Atlas except for the one time they teamed-up to fight against Caroline Cordovin’s Colossus. Compared to the AceOps’ rigorous daily training and constantly having to carry out extremely difficult tasks under Ironwood’s leadership, Team RWBY’s training really pales in comparison.
There are many other ways that Team RWBY’s physical, mental or emotional strength without having them win fights they don’t deserve, because at this point it simply feels like no matter what happens, no matter how gray the situation the writing team behind RWBY attempts to portray, the narrative always tries to portray Team RWBY as being in the right even though for the past two Volumes they have been wrong in their methods without suffering any consequences. It’s exhausting and frankly, not good writing. I understand this is said a lot, but in this case, it can really be attributed to bad writing. Team RWBY doesn’t have to win every fight, they don’t have to always come out on top. They don’t always have to be right. And they most certainly don’t have to always be at the center of everything. That’s what side characters are for, side characters that they rarely use at all but keep around and keep increasing the amount of side characters for the plot. It’s overwhelming in all the wrong ways.
By the way, it was Team RWBY who attacked the AceOps, not the other way around. They could’ve stood down, they could’ve calmed down and realized they were in the wrong in this scenario, and Harriet herself said it first. They decide what happens next. Ruby draws out her weapon and escapes the room, forcing Harriet to chase her. They were the ones who forced the AceOps into acting, not the other way around. But the next moment Ruby is begging Harriet to team up with her to fight Salem even though a moment ago she was challenging Harriet to a fight because of her arrogance and unjustified massive ego. At this point, Ironwood might be paranoid and making bad decisions, but Team RWBY certainly poured gasoline all over his paranoia.
Qrow
I think most of the FNDM can agree that what they did with Qrow makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. There are a lot of things wrong with his character this chapter. For starters, at no point since he was introduced did Qrow try to solve the problems he faced with outright violence. He always preferred the diplomatic and peaceful approach because that’s what Ozpin taught him to do and what he genuinely believed was the right step today, because violence leads to panic, and the panic leads to Creatures of Grimm… Except in this case where he… Decided to rely on violence.
But the greatest offender was the fact he teamed up with Tyrian of all people– that’s right. Qrow willingly teams up with Tyrian, the same person who has tried to slaughter both Ruby and himself and has successfully murdered dozens of innocent civilians for his own amusement to attack Clover… What? Then he has the audacity to blame Clover for what happened and feels awful when, to no one’s surprise, Tyrian betrays him and stabs Clover with Harbinger when it was him who knocked out Clover’s Aura in the first place.
It’s awful, and I can understand why so many Qrow fans are enraged by this, because even I was and I don’t relate to Qrow that much. Just as the meme goes, ‘everything happens so much…’
Clover’s Death
Didn’t need to happen. Literally that’s my entire point on this section. It didn’t need to happen, it shouldn’t have happened, and this was RWBY’s writing team attempt at shock for the Volume. Because Qrow is just not allowed to have happy endings or friends. Qrow has no rights mourning Clover’s death when he himself was the direct catalyst for it to occur in the first place. But there is something else that is horrifyingly atrocious in the writing department going on with Clover in the last moments of his death. Seconds before getting stabbed with Harbinger, Clover states that he would trust Ironwood with his life… Then, all that changes right after he is nearing the end of his life.
The moment he realizes his life is fading away, once again, Clover goes against anything and everything he stands for by wishing Qrow good luck when the other claims he’s going to make sure Ironwood takes the fall for what happened, when Ironwood is doing nothing wrong. Ironwood keeps getting painted as the villain even by his most loyal soldier, the one who claimed he would trust the general with his life, but that ultimately doesn’t matter based on the show’s writing. Clover previously also talked about how Ironwood was doing the right thing by making the toughest decisions, the decisions that realistically could and would save thousands of lives unlike Team RWBY’s lofty goals.
Goals which by the end of the episode continue being unanswered. How are they going to accomplish all the naïve promises they want to fulfill? From a non-biased opinion and how they tend to solve the writing’s plot holes in past volumes, what most likely’s going to happen is yet another Deus Ex Machina. In Volume 4 it was the ‘random’ troops that just happened to arrive to Kuroyuri on time to escort the group all the way to Mistral and seek medical first aid for Qrow. In Volume 5 it was Blake showing up with an entire militia of the reformed White Fang as well as Vernal, somehow, still living to get that cheap shot in for Raven to have an opening to knock Cinder off the vault’s cliff. In Volume 6 it was Ruby’s empty speeches somehow convincing Cordovin to give them a free ship so they could travel to Atlas even though Team RWBY and company were responsible for everything bad that happened to Argus because of their selfishness.

1/? It's a damn shame that Penny is probably going to miss out on the intrapersonal conflict she should get when she finds out that Salem is immortal. Her POV for the last episode was that Ironwood inexplicably wants to abandon the (clearly dead by now) people of Mantle to die when he thought he could win the fight less than a day earlier. She either needs to come to terms with the chance that doing what you feel is right might not always be what's right or she might find out at the worst time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
No one has been able to work through the conflict of Salem’s immortality. I said prior to the start of Volume 7 that the show 100% needed to show us how and why the character regained their hope in this fight... but it didn’t. Originally everyone was convinced that the fight was a useless death sentence. Then they decided only to get the relic to Atlas since they’d already committed to that mission---but refusing to drop the powerful magic lamp in the snow isn’t the same thing as committing to fighting an immortal enemy for the rest of your presumed life. Then the group arrives, hangs onto the relic, and starts supporting a plan they know won’t work. Fast forward about ten episodes and we’ve suddenly got Ruby telling Salem herself that she’s beatable and the rest of her team backing her up. Ruby then learns she can’t hear one sentence from Salem without literally collapsing in tears, but she’s going to face her head on anyway. Where did this confidence come from?? Not a single character has grappled with their anger or pessimism from the immortality reveal and the story didn’t conveniently give them a way to defeat Salem that Ozpin never had. They just inexplicably decided that they’re hopeful now and if we Try Really Hard we’re sure to win...somehow. Which not only contradicts every bit of characterization we saw in Volume 6 but is the one time when that level of optimism is dangerous as opposed to helpful. They rejected Ozpin’s ‘Just keep trying’ stance in the long term when he’d already proven that at the very least you could achieve a time of peace through that, but now that Salem herself is coming to kill them all with no practical way of fighting her, ‘Just keep trying’ is the best and only option. So I’m not at all surprised that Penny won’t get to grapple with Salem’s immortality and come to a persuasive reason for why she’s choosing to fight her regardless. Ruby hasn’t even gotten that yet. And because right now no one in the group will act on their own opinions---whatever Ruby wants is automatically the way to go---no one else has gone through that growth either. When Ruby inexplicably decides that they can win everyone else just nods and reiterates that they trust her.
As for Whitley... I’m not sure what they intend to do with him moving forward. Am I the only one who expected another scene this volume after he ran up the stairs? His story felt incomplete this season. Whitley is a potential danger to the group as Jacques’ shadow, but he only became that because, as you say, he was abused, given just one option for emotional survival, and hasn’t received any help from either of his sisters. We set up Weiss potentially helping him with her mom’s comment, but right now it doesn’t look like it’s going to amount to anything. Did Weiss tell the group to make a pit-stop at the manor so they can take her little brother with them? Did Winter consider where the third sibling might land in regards to this new division between her and Weiss? Nope. I mean yes, we’re presumably going to have another whole volume in Atlas, but right now it doesn’t look like the story cares much about Whitley at all. Or just doesn’t know what to do with him in a cast with so many characters to keep track of. Because we establish that he needs help, have a character ask another to help him, and then are given no indication that that’s ever going to happen. Whitley just rushes upstairs with literally no one to follow him (I’m getting Volume 6 Oscar vibes...) and that’s that until a year later when, maybe, Volume 8 will give us a little more.

*fluffs you* Uhm... Any thoughts on Chapter 5 yet? You know I don't mind spoilers :)
Apologies for the late response! Say no more Mizu. I gotchu fam! If I’m beingcompletely honest with you, I don’t have much to say about this episode mostly in the sense that, even after processing it for an entire day, I’m still riding the high of it. I will say overall that I enjoyed this episode so I think for the most part, this time I’m just only going to mention the two key parts that I enjoyed the most about this episode, if that’s okay:
JNPR RISES
First of all, as you’ve probably seen by now from my blog—a wild cute farm boy was sighted in this episode. Naturally this made this squiggle meister very very happy.
Going in CH5 especially following the last episode, what I mostly wantedout of this new chapter on Oscar’s side was mostly to see him show up. I honestly felt like a mom whose kid went away to summer camp and hasn’t seen them in weeks. I just wanted to see Oscar to be reminded that he’s still in the PLOT (unlike certain other characters *coughsMariacoughs*). But I ended up getting more than I bargained for.
Tumblr media
This episode showed Oscar teaming up with JNR in an all fours team battle against an Atlesian huntsmen team I’ve been waiting to make a comeback since V3.
RWBY BROUGHT BACK THE FNKI!
Seriously it was SO GREAT seeing Neon and Flynt returning. I was worried that with our heroes spending time mostly with the Ace Ops that we weren’t going to catch them at all.
Luckily Eddy Rivas came in clutch for us FNKI fans this episode. Myfavourite part of CH5 was the fight between FNKI and JNR with Oscar. It wasso good. Seeing their interactions on the battlefield. Hearing Neon roast Nora and having Nora Harry Pottering herself around the battlefield trying to catch her was awesome.
Tumblr media
Since when can Nora use the hammer to fly around like a witch on a broomstick!? This is the first time we’ve seen that and I really really love it! Need more hammer Witch Nora!
Watching Jaune fight Flynt and Ren fight Ivory while Oscar fought the giantKobalt and seeing all three of them kick ass. The fact that FNKI lost to JNPRmade me smile because a) it shows how much JNR has indeed improved since FNKI met them during the Vytal Festival, b) it highlights how much Oscar has been improving on his own without Oz and c) it shows how well Oscar works with JNR.
Seriously this scene gave me more hope for Oscar inevitably joining JNR to revive JNPR because that’s something that this squiggle meister has been hoping for since V5. For me, one thing I’ve always wanted for Oscar is for him to gain his own place on the team beyond his role as Ozma’s current descendant in the cycle and Ozpin’s successor.
Hence why I fell in love with the theory of him joining JNR to revive their huntsmen team.
While they’ve done well on their own up until this point, admittedly JNRhas been incomplete since Pyrrha’s death. And one thing I’ve always appreciated about the JNR gang is how they always felt like a family.
I know Team RWBY is our core protagonist team but I’ve always felt more attached to JNPR and I believed them to have the stronger family rapport than RWBY.
This is why I was hoping Oscar would eventually join them. Become a part of their little family and give Oscar three brothers-in-arms that he can count on both off and on the battlefield.
I felt like Oscar would fit well with JNR. Not just because they were short one member and his last name coincidentally provides that missing “P” from JNR…but mostly because I figured Oscar would complement Jaune, Nora and Ren just much as Pyrrha did once before. Thus making the young farm boy turned little barn prince fit well within JNR.
I always liked the idea of Oscar making JNR feel whole again and reviving their group through his growing bond and comradery with each member.
Beyond that, I wanted Oscar to experience what it was like to be a partof huntsmen team since part of the enjoyment of RWBY for me was watching these characters grow close to one another over the seasons.
Becoming teammates then friends and then to a greater extent—a family. I wanted the same experience for Oscar because right now, he could really use that.
He could use more friends. He could use a family. People he could happily call his brothers and sisters. His people and I think JNR can provide that him. No, I know JNR can provide him that. JNR are ¾ of who I believed could become Oscar’s Golden Circle of most trusted confidantes (the final member being Ruby, of course) and I’m not giving up on that headcanon.
I figured that’s what the Writers were going for last season with the whole Argus subplot between Jaune and Oscar. But…well, we all know how that went. Nonetheless, maybe there’s hope for this season. I’d love for the PLOT to revisit Oscar’s departure last season and I’d like to think it could come back up for the sake of his development to come from this season. But as always we, will see how that goes.

SISTER SISTER
This episode also confirmed what most of us RWBY Theorists has been theorizing for years. Winter is going to be the next candidate for Winter Maiden.
According to the episode, Ironwood has not only been grooming Winter to become the next Winter Maiden following the passing of the old one but he’s also been grooming the Winter Maiden to choose Winter as her next successor by having Winter be the only person to interact with the old Maiden.
That’s an interesting take. I mean, my theory has always been thatIronwood wanted to control the succession of the Maidens but I figured he wouldhave done it using Atlas’ experimental aura technology. Not by literallygrooming the old candidate to pick his designated next one. It’s kind a poor way of doing it because as Oz once put it—”Maidens choose themselves”.
The only time this rule has been broken is when Maidens have been killed and their powers end up going to their assailants as opposed to someone they cared about. This also makes me curious as to what would happened should Ironwood’s plan not work with the Winter Maiden.
I remember Qrow mentioned something about the Maidens back in a previous volume regarding what would happen should a maiden not have someone to choose in mind.
I know Ironwood is trying to make the Granny Winter pick Winter but…what if…this doesn’t happen?
After all, you can’t just make a person care about someone just because she created a controlled scenario for them to force this type of bond. It doesn’t exactly work that way. While Ironwood might succeed in making Granny Winter care for Winter, I doubt he can make her care about her enough to have the powers pass onto her.
Imagine if…it becomes a case where the Winter Maiden had a daughter or a perhaps a granddaughter or great niece? Perhaps the Winter Maiden never had any children of her own since Maidens are usual chosen young. Perhaps Granny Winter has only known the life of a Maiden and has mostly lived it in isolation. However the only exception was her keeping in contact with the last family member that she had before she became a Maiden. Maybe she had a sister? Or a brother who eventually had a child of their own. A daughter.
What if…the Winter Maiden has young niece or great niece she never met. And she’s been thinking about that person for some time. Especially now that’s she on her death bed. Perhaps…Granny Winter has one dying wish that she confided in Winter? That she wanted to be reunited with her niece.
Perhaps…she confided this in Winter and she’s been keeping that little secret from even Ironwood this entire time.
Overall, this whole plot point with Winter and Granny Winter is really intriguing. And what’s more cool about is that it puts Winter more into perspective. This is the first time the show has really focused on Winter as a person; highlighting how she feels. We’ve seen Winter display a softer side to her otherwise stoic demenour but it’s usual reserved for her closest family such as her sister, Weiss.
This is the first time we’ve seen Winter show genuine care for anyone outside of her family. I wish we had gotten more time to spend with Winter and Granny Winter. It was nice to see how Winter has accepted her fate. It was also good to see just how much Winter values General Ironwood. It wouldn’t surprise me if part of the reason Winter respects the General is because she sees him as a father figure—at least a better one than her own father. I just really enjoyed that moment between Weiss and Winter. It’s very rare we see the Schnee Sisters interact so it was lovely seeing them have their moment this episode.

I know I call the Winter Maiden Granny Winter, but in actuality, her name is Fria. And one thing I’m curious about is whether or Fria will be based on the Norse Goddess of the same name?
Is Fria related to Nora?
This isn’t really a point of the episode but a theory I have based on what I learnt of the Winter Maiden. To me, the name “Fria” reminds me of “Freya”
Tumblr media
According to research, Freya, in Norse mythology, is the Goddess of love but she is also associated with sex, lust, beauty, sorcery, fertility, gold, war and death. It is also stated that Freya shares a connection to Thor. Since Nora is RWBY’s equivalent of Thor and since it’s been teased that us fans will be learning more about Nora’s backstory soon, I’m starting to wonder if there will be an unspoken connection to Nora and Fria---the Winter Maiden.
Technically, the Maidens are the closest thing to goddesses in Remnant given their strong potency in magic. So I’m curious if at some point it will be revealed that Nora is a long-lost relative of Fria---probably her only living family member---who was stolen from her as a child by bandits who then trafficked Nora off to Mistral where she ultimately escaped her captives and wound up in Kunoyuri where she met Ren.
Imagine if...it’s a case where...Nora hasn’t seen Fria in years. Nor does she even remember her since Nora was abducted as a child so all the trauma of being kidnapped from her family forced Nora to somehow repress her past. Perhaps V7 will end on a cliffhanger note with Fria revealing to Winter her last dying wish---
To be somehow be reunited with her beloved granddaughter before she parted Remnant and returned to the Gods. And her granddaughter’s name was Nora Valkyrie.
Imagine if...V7 ends on Nora just learning that she is the granddaughter of the Winter Maiden who desperately wants to see her before she goes. But Nora becomes torn up about it since hearing about Fria causes all the repressed memories of her past to suddenly resurface after so long and for the first time since she first met Ren, Nora becomes a emotionally vulnerable and scared girl again--- unable to cope with this startling revelation and this time, it will Ren’s turn to support Nora on the qualms of her past along with Jaune (and possibly Oscar to since he is connected to the Maidens being the successor to the man who created them). I’m not sure if this will be the case in the serious.
However I am definitely down for this theory becoming canon if possible.

Nora becoming the Winter Maiden would surprisingly fit given the fact that her fairytale counterpart is an mythological god. Nora will literally become Thor if she rises to Maiden status and thunder is her element of choice.
Just picture Nora like Thor in Thor: Ragnarok. Her crystal blue-green eyes aglow with electricity surging around her body. And Nora using thunder as her element of choice as a Maiden even though she’s supposedly the Winter Maiden still fits since, technically---Cinder is the Fall Maiden and her element of choice is Fire.
Tumblr media
Raven is the Spring Maiden and her element of choice was surprisingly Ice of all things. So Nora as the Winter Maiden using thunder. That would be purely badass!
The only gripe that I have with this theory is that Nora rising to Maiden status would put a greater death flag target on her back than her red hair. Theorists are already saying that Nora might be killed by Tyrian since in mythology, Thor was killed by a scorpion.
I personally don’t want Nora to die at all! I like and care too much about Nora as character. Raven is a Maiden and she lived. So if Nora becomes a Maiden, I expect her to live too. I’d actually be livid if Nora ends up dying especially since she’s been with us since V1. Pyrhha’s death was one thing but Nora’s...I’ll be really pissed if she gets killed off. ESPECIALLY in the event of JNPR being revived through Oscar.
So yeah, while I really want Nora to become the Winter Maiden, I don’t want her to die either. But regardless, for now I’m going to stick a pin in this theory and keep it on the table of possibilities.

Robynn Death Flags + Ace Frames
And that’s pretty much it. That’s all I have to say on CH5, Mizu. As an honourary mention, I did like seeing Robyn Hill. She was cool and I’m intrigued by her and her Happy Huntresses. I’m especially curious about her possible connection to Clover because they seemed to have history. Definitely giving me Robin Hood and the Sheriff of Nottingham vibes. But beyond that, there wasn’t much for me to say on the part with Robyn. However I am looking forward to seeing her and her huntresses in action soon.
The title of the next episode---CH6 is titled “Night Out” and our heroes are expected to be attending the Watch party for the election campaign between Jacques and Robyn.
I have a hunch that CH6 is going to be another “calm before the storm” type of episode just like CH4.
I have a feeling that Tyrian is going to probably show up during the rally targeting Robyn to kill her.
Since Tyrian is working with Watts and since Watts was shown eyeballing the Ace Ops in the opening, my theory is that Watts is going to have Tyrian either kill off Robyn or at least target her and make it look as if Clover of the Ace Ops was responsible for the hit on Robyn at the rally.
Thus making the public of Mantle believe that the Ace Ops were the ones behind all the murders of the spokespeople in Mantle like Forest. #FRWBY

I think it’s going to start with Clover first since he’s the leader of the Aces and we’ve seen more of him than his teammates.
I have a feeling that Watts plan is to use either Clover and/or the Ace Ops as martyrs to further tarnish the General’s public image through a huge scandal with Robyn.
I think Robyn is either going to die or be believed to have been killed with Clover blamed for her death.
An Ace Op---one of the General’s personal attack dogs--- accused of killing the key representative for Mantle to keep her from gaining a seat on the governing council---hence keeping Mantle out of Atlas? That’s a good scandal. One that could destroy James even further.
I still stand by my theory that Jacques plan is to usurp James and through Watts’ aid, I think there’s a huge possibility.
Unless Jacques is nothing but a perfect pawn to Watts for him to pin everything on in the end just to cover his tracks and cause an even worse scandal for Atlas with Mantle.
I dunno. These are all just theories but I’m gonna stick with them for now. In the meantime, I hope this answers your Mizu.
