if you want: Slayers with more modern art but a clusterfuck of a story and characters
S01 (x) | S02 (x) | S03 (x) | M01 (x) | M02 (x) | M03 (x) | M04 (x)
“Slayers Revolution” was made 10 years after the 3rd season ended. I was hoping that this was going to be able to stand on its own legs but oh boy.
Revolution has the feeling of being created by someone who read the character sheets of the main characters, underlined one trait that was going to be their entire personality this season and decided to let the entire thing be carried on by nostalgia and filler. This is insanely obvious just from the 1st episode. Gourry seemingly lost half his IQ as he can’t even remember Zelgadis and Amelia’s names when he sees them (?????) and he also continues to be there to make stupid comments until near the end of the season when he suddenly remembers that he is actually one of the most powerful swordsmen in the world. Zelgadis, who basically gave up on finding the way of reversing his chimera state with the Claire Bible in Season 02 because there were more serious things going on now goes completely berserk trying to catch one of the new characters just by Lina saying that he MIGHT know how to do it. Honestly, that scene was so out of character I almost closed the video cause I got a headache. And Amelia is basically the only sane character in the main cast which is hilarious considering that she was always one of the weirdest. Lina is mostly herself but her maniac tendencies seem to have been scaled up by a few points.
The nostalgia factor is also annoying. They bring back and mention characters from the older seasons for no reason (like, some of them literally have no reason to be there and don’t even do anything). I like the kind of subtle callbacks, like when [spoiler] fires the cannons he calls them “Jillas cannons” which was a really fun integration of the events of the old series and subtle! SUBTLE!
But let us not rest as the new characters are ALSO horrible and annoying. There’s some flying bunny animal named Pokota that has the same personality and power level as Lina... until he suddenly becomes a crybaby and forgets that he can do magic or something idk, his character did such a sudden 180 I couldn’t keep up. There’s also a dude named Wizer, who’s an inspector. He is actually really smart and sane but pretends to be the complete opposite. Why? I don’t know! He keeps getting Lina into ridiculous situations and let’s her figure out the solution when he already knows it! Damn, just tell her that you need her help AAAAHHH.
Anyway, theres also an evil marquess who really likes fighting and is eviiiiiil, her servant Ozzel who [spoilers] but her purpose doesn’t get revealed in this season anyway, some super assassin called Zuuma who has some personal problem with Lina which we ALSO don’t find out and Duclis who is a friend of Pokota’s and is evil but isn’t then is but then isn’t. Yep.
The story and pacing are also a big clusterfuck. The first few episodes are complete filler and then the second half is complete fighting. As we went into the fighting stuff, the anime felt much more like Slayers, even the characters personalities. The story however leaves a lot to be desired. It felt like they wrote the story first then just tried to force the villains into them, even if it didn’t make any sense.
So. Anyone who rewatches the series like I did is definitely going to notice these problems. People with the nostalgia glasses on but not much memory of the previous seasons might enjoy this. As for those who don’t know the series at all... I don’t know. I definitely wouldn’t want someone’s idea of the show to be based on this but it also has much cleaner art and animation.
I’m also curious how the next season, which is a direct sequel to this one, will be and if they improve on the issues I mentioned or just keep barrelling on with the nonsense.
[4/10] (x)
Recommend: HELL Yeah! | Yes | Eh??? | Nope | This anime killed my parents

Xellos rolled his eyes, still grinning widely, showing his even white teeth with short fangs.
"Oh, Miss Lina. Are you still upset about those little games mr. Wizer used to capture you? It was fun. Yes, I am guilty." The demon put a hand on his chest theatrically. "I couldn't resist the urge to whisper a tip or two to the inspector's ear, but it was only teasing. I didn't intend to really be your enemy. You know you are my weakness among mortals."
He was sitting close. Enough close she could feel his scent of fresh stormy air.
"I saved your life several times" he reminded her smugly. "And I am a professional keeper of secrets and a great listener. If you aren't sleepy I am more than happy to spend more time with you, however despite what you say about being a boring sleeping lump of mortality, Miss Amelia's usual bruises after sharing the room with you, say Lina Inverse is entertaining even when she sleeps."
And he would have nothing against some kicks and punches from her side. Lina hadn't used her physical brutality against him for so long. He missed her enthusiasm.
The mazoku also wondered about what had caused the girl to push him away when he asked with a touch for permission to caress her more intimately. Of course he knew Lina had a complex about her bust's size, but he never thought it could be so serious. Such nonsense. She knew he wanted her, so wasn't it clear he accepts, more!  He enjoys and adores her body just like it is?
Well, Gourry, apparently a fan of woman's body curves, who commented from time to time about Lina's chest, could only deepen the sorceres' problem, especially when the girl secretly crushed on the swordsman.
flameofchaos:
Xellos stared at her indeed being very confused, but also… calmed. So… he hadn’t made a mistake. She had been aware and wanted what had happened and that apparently scared her.
His predatory instincts flew away and he was able again to see Lina’s emotions. This confirmed his suspicions: the Chaos manipulated his senses, directing him in one way. He shouldn’t fight it. After all, their goal seemed to be the same.
Xellos’ mood improved immediately while he devoured the sorceress’ feelings, even more delicious when she managed to approach him to give a delicate kiss on his cheek.
“Well, Miss Lina,” he teleported next to her with a wide grin, when the girl sat at the table. “It only means you are a challenge. I like challenges.” The demon cocked his head, looking into her eyes mischievously. “Don’t you think it would be boring if everything would happen as expected? Smile, m'dear.” He touched the corner of her mouth, wiping off some chocolate cream that remained there and licked the sweetness with a pleasant hum. “Be what you are, Miss Lina. No need to pretend in front of me. I am not a human after all. I wouldn’t judge you. We can talk about your doubts or not. It’s your choice. I would take from you all of it: your frustrations, fears, fury. You can throw all of it on me and feel better. Not all people have their own supporting mazoku, right?” The demon winked at her and raised a finger happily. “It would be our secret. So!” He clapped his hands with enthusiasm. “We have a planned trip. Sounds wonderful. Now time to bed. You are tired and I’m going to guard your sleep.”
He hoped to be close to her tonight, but if she needed space, he respected that, feeling almost drunk with perspectives for future.
“I’m not some puzzle for you to figure out. And like hell am I giving you more ammunition to manipulate me later than I need to.” She gave him a grin; he would understand that she didn’t mean it as an insult but an honest reality of their relationship. Yet, it was oddly comforting that he accepted her quirk without protesting or trying to make her feel guilty for ‘leading him on’ or any such nonsense. She had accepted his kiss, but that was the end of it.
In defiance of his order to bed, she leaned back in her chair and picked up her remaining dessert, crossing her legs as she took a very small bite. “It’s still early. I’m not quite sleepy enough yet.” Not entirely true, but she wasn’t in a hurry either.
Lina thought about taking her anger, her frustrations out on him that he hadn’t earned and was bothered by the idea. Even if he’d enjoy the feast it seemed wrong to do that to someone she was trying to teach the ways of human interactions.
Maybe she should take some lessons herself first to fix whatever was broken in her.
Maybe she really was a monster in human form like those rumors said.
Ah well. Nothing to be done about it tonight if she was.
She idly wondered if she would have frozen like that under the bell boy’s attentions. She knew the answer; she wouldn’t have been able to allow him to even start.
“What are you planning to do while I’m being a boring sleeping lump of mortality?” She ate her cake at a positively sedate pace.

Lucyd Building Blockchain-fueled Smartglasses With Mass Appeal
In the 2013 novel Memories with Maya by Clyde Dsouza, the plot revolves around the artificial intelligence based augmented reality (AR) smartglasses called Wizer. While we have read and seen a lot about AR in sci-fi, the truth is that the real world debut of AR-based smartglasses has been less than spectacular.
The most popular product to date has been Google Glass, but even that has been discontinued by Google for a variety of reasons, although it was recently reintroduced with a limited focus on workplace efficiency. Meanwhile, Lucyd wants to streamline the way you do just about everything.
Lucyd’s 13 exclusive AR patents hold a lot of promise and can enable us to use a more natural interface to communicate with the cloud and perform basic computing functions in the blink of an eye. Lucyd is now planning to bring you AR in a form factor with mass appeal, and is implementing the LCD token to fund their development and let anyone contribute to the project.
Patents make AR dream a reality
There’s a reason why even Google couldn’t make a success of AR based smart glasses. Their product was simply too clunky and obvious, and they did not have access to the groundbreaking patents that Lucyd holds in exclusive license. The lead inventor behind Lucyd’s  patents, Dr. Jannick Rolland, is a world-class optics expert and an advisor to Lucyd. One major issue with Google Glass was that it caused privacy concerns from bystanders, which negatively impacted wearers.
Lucyd has learned from the failures of such technology, and has come up with a solution that is elegant and discreet. They are presently trying develop a prototype of Lucyd Lens, their next-gen smartglasses.
The technology behind Lucyd was developed over years of well-funded research by AR experts at the College of Optics and Photonics at the University of Central Florida. Lucyd will not only solve the issue of the unattractive, “geeky” look associated with smartglasses, but also aim to solve issues such as narrow enhanced field of view, latency, light leakage, poor eye tracking, difficult controls, connectivity issues, eye strain and incompatibility with prescription glasses.
Blockchain as the backbone
In order for Lucyd Lens to become a reality, Lucyd is creating an entire Blockchain-powered app ecosystem built on the LCD token. LCD will not only help fund the development of the Lens hardware via the current token sale, but will also be used to reward third party creation of AR-native apps and content to continuously enrich the user experience.
Users of the Lucyd lens will also be able to get LCD by contributing feedback to the developer community and participating in ad content. LCD can be used to purchase AR products from Lucyd and its ecosystem, or bought and sold on token exchanges.
The pre-sale price for LCD is 1 ETH=2,133 LCD. There is a plan to release 50 mln tokens in the total sale, out of which 25 mln are on offer at the presale price. Perhaps the greatest incentive for investors to purchase LCD tokens is that the first run (and perhaps second and third) of 500 pairs of Lucyd glasses will be reserved solely for the first token sale participants who contribute over 2.35 ETH.
At the conclusion of the pre-sale, the token sale will commence on Oct. 31, 2017. An additional 25 mln tokens will be put on sale at 1 ETH=1,280 LCD. The fundraising goal of Lucyd is USD $10 mln. A whitepaper is available, containing details of the token sale, as well as other useful information about Lucyd’s patents and team members.
A team that can deliver
Lucyd already has the patents it needs to get the ball rolling, but it has also put together the ‘Dream Team’ of AR/optics powerhouses and people with entrepreneurial and creative prowess.
Dr. Jannick Rolland is the lead inventor behind Lucyd patents, and is on board as an advisor.
Dr. Rolland has already developed the central optical system that will be utilised by Lucyd.
The Optics team is led by Mike Kayat, who is a physicist and a business development executive with 20 years of experience in development and marketing in advanced optics.
Dr Clifford Gross, Strategic Commercialization Lead, is an experienced executive and entrepreneur who founded three public companies and is a named inventor on 19 issued patents from his research.
Jose Enrique Hernandez is the Blockchain Lead for Lucyd, and has extensive experience in the cryptocurrency, mining servers and Blockchain software spaces.
Professor Hao Li is a Lucyd advisor, and a well-recognised AR expert. His work revolves around dynamic shape reconstruction, real-time facial and body performance capture, 3D hair acquisition and garment digitalisation.
Dr Chris Harrison, also an advisor, is an expert in AR and Human-Computer Interaction at Carnegie Mellon, while recently added Pedro Lopes is an expert in Haptic AR.
Konrad Dabrowski (CPA), Eric Cohen, and Harrison Gross are the cofounders of the project, and are the Financial, App Development and Media leads respectively.
The Dream Team has already started work on Logyc OS, which will run the Lens interface on processing power and data signals from the user’s smartphone. By adding Blockchain to the wearable AR system, the ecosystem that is required to keep users engaged will become a reality. The Lucyd Lab Blockchain is going to make it easy for anyone to develop, share, monetize and experience AR-native content.
Things are finally Lucyd in wearables
The dream of augmented reality is to be able to engage in hands-free computing tasks with a normal-looking pair of glasses. Lucyd Lens will have bone-conducting headphones flush in the stems, and no buttons, switches or wires. Put them on and these glasses will spring to life, adding the useful and fun world of Lucyd AR to anything you do.
A front-facing camera will enable object detection, and the microphone will be hidden in the rim. Just about anyone can benefit from Lucyd Lens, including corrective lens wearers who are currently disenfranchised by available VR/AR devices.
If Lucyd can take care of the stigma associated with smartglasses, they are already halfway there. But they are planning to deliver technology far beyond that. They may actually become the first project to deliver wearables that are used on a daily basis, worn and improved on by the public at large.
Will science fiction become reality? Take a closer look at Lucyd and you’ll have the answer.

Class Notebook Tools for OneNote Online.
Class Notebook Toolbar for OneNote for Windows 10.
With the Class Notebook Tools for OneNote Online and OneNote for Windows 10, you can do the following:
Distribute a page or section to your students—Rather than sending students to the Content Library to copy a page for themselves, teachers can distribute a page to all students in a class with just two clicks.
Review student work sequentially—Just like in the Class Notebook add-in for OneNote 2013 or 2016, teachers are provided with a list of all the pages they’ve distributed and a quick way to sequentially review work (homework, assignments, quizzes, etc.). Simply click a student’s name to navigate to the page in the student’s notebook.
OneNote Online is rolling out today to Office 365 Education customers, with the OneNote for Windows 10 update available in the coming days in the Windows Store, and you will be able to download the OneNote Windows 10 app and enable the feature through settings in the Options menu.
For more details, visit the Getting Started guides for Class Notebook Tools for OneNote Online or Class Notebook Tools for OneNote for Windows 10.
Learning Tools updates—new languages and more
We have been hard at work rolling out Learning Tools across new apps and platforms—including Word desktop, Word Online, OneNote Online and Office Lens for the iPhone. At the same time, we’ve been listening to teachers and students and making improvements to the original Learning Tools add-in for OneNote. Our international audiences expressed the desire to have Learning Tools in more languages, as well as the ability to use dictation in more languages, and are pleased to launch two improvements in this area:
The Learning Tools user interface is now localized in six new languages: Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Thai, Chinese (Simplified) and Chinese (Traditional).
Support for three new dictation languages: Russian, Portuguese (Brazil) and Chinese.
Support for three new Dictation languages—Chinese, Portuguese and Russian.
We also heard the desire to have explicit punctuation when dictating. For example, saying “period” now translates to “.” and “question mark” translates to “?”
In addition to these improvements, we made a few other enhancements:
Now, when IT admins deploy Learning Tools, the Update button is only displayed on client machines that have rights to install updates.
Implemented several bug fixes and performance improvements.
For feedback, you can always drop us a line at [email protected].
Fun with stickers
A top request by teachers was to add some “fun” when giving feedback to students in OneNote. Now teachers can give students stickers in OneNote—as well as easily add a personalized message to the sticker. In addition, we plan to release new stickers packs throughout 2017—so keep an eye out for more “fun” way to give students feedback.
Stickers are available today in the OneNote Online app and will be available in the coming weeks for the OneNote Class Notebook add-in for desktop (2013 or 2016) and Windows 10 app.

I absolutely love this for so many reason. I view Hannibal and Clarice relation as more friendship then romance but he’s the only person who can see the small tells that she destracted and not really focused when coming to talk to him sbout a new case (in this particular story he nrver escaped).
He can tell that she’s uncomfortable with Chilton touching her but she’s not a underprepared rookie who was thrown to the wolves she a brave smart women who had spain of steal and takes no ish from anyone.
Hannibal is the only person who respects her, he can tell when something’s not right and does his best to help without blowing her cover of being in complete control of everything.
She still has her job at the FBI but is a little wizer. They need her because she’s the only person Hannibal will talk to. He forced them to give Clarice her job bsck otherwise he would stop helping them solve murders and made sure people knew what they had done to the smart, brave women.
They know they’ll need Hannibal’s help in the future and see when they hesitate on bring her back that he doesn’t help the women they sent in, that looks like Clarice to get information from him about the Murder.
(Well he does help her, just not in the way they wanted. I’ll call her M for the moment)
The poor girl’s scared, she has no idea what’s going on or why the FBI pressured her into pretending to be someone. Hannibal doesn’t take it out on her, it wasn’t her fault. He comforts her and helps her just like he did Clarice. The girl who leaves is much stronger then when she walked in. They send her in another six times believing they are getting somewhere. M told them she was getting information.
She soon realises that she enjoys acting, its fun, Hannibal helps her perfect her acting skills and gives herca way to protect herself from the FBI, in return M helped Hannibal make his point to the FBI that if Clarice isn’t brought back then they will get no help from him
They eventually get the point and Clarice is brought back. M invited her out for lunch and fills her in on what’s been happening since she left and how she managed to get her job back.
They both laugh at yhe FBI’s expense. They won’t be getting rid of Clarice any time soon, not if they don’t want the world to know how they treat women. Hannibal Lector is still highly respected in his field even though he is no longer technically a doctor after having his licene removed. He still has a lot of influence.
Sorry for rambling on so long. I hoep this made sense. I hope I didn’t bore you.
imagine reading Silence and Hannibal, watching Clarice develop a bond with Hannibal, seeing all the sexism and loss Clarice endures, witnessing the systematic destruction of her dream career, then getting to the end and thinking, "but she would NEVER just run off with some rando serial killer (even though she risked her life to save his) and abandon (the smoking ruins of) her life!" /snark
We’ve had so many private discussions about this, but I still want to publish a long response of my thoughts on my blog.
Clarice Starling choosing to spend the rest of her life on the run with Hannibal is one of the biggest examples I’ve ever read in literature of a woman taking back her agency and using it to further herself. It’s unusual, it’s unexpected and so of course it’s frequently misunderstood and despised.
From what we learn of her background in Silence and Hannibal, Clarice has spent many, many years of her life trying to prove to herself and to others that she’s valuable — that she’s smart, brave, more than meets the eye. The last thing Clarice Starling is going to be is average, which Hannibal picks up on (even if he teases her for it in the beginning). There’s a fair amount of criticism leveraged against her as being rude at times or selfish. I politely disagree; if she’s rough, it’s because she’s on a mission, and it’s usually for someone else’s betterment instead of her own.
e.g. Her pursuit to save Catherine Martin begins with Clarice wanting to prove her stuff to Crawford, but it quickly shifts into an extreme need to save the girl, no matter if she loses out on a career at the FBI or not; aka, the goal she’s been busting her ass off to get since college. She’s willing to risk everything to save someone else.
We see this behavior again in Hannibal, when she learns of Verger’s plan and decides that she’s going to singlehandedly take the operation down to save someone that many people would let the pigs eat. Of course, I believe there were the buds of romantic feelings towards him already within her when that happened, which I’ll touch on in a moment, but the fact stands that she risked her own life to save someone else’s because what was going to happen to them was ethically wrong.
However, none of this drive matters when it comes to the glass ceiling she faces at the FBI. Clarice is a woman, and she’ll never be in the boy’s club. Oh she’ll get a promotion here or there, but if someone needs to get tossed under the bus, she’s going first. Imagine working your ass off to do so much good in the world just to hit a Paul Krendler and see that go down the tubes. Are you running back to the FBI again?
But even so, why would she like Lecter in the first place? As you mentioned, a lot of people think he brainwashes her into tossing her life away.
Over and over again, Hannibal Lecter (you know, the convicted serial killer and cannibal) is the ONLY PERSON in the series that treats her with the respect she’s owed (besides Brigham, who dies). Chilton tosses her literally into the lion’s den without any preparation because he’s angry a woman spurned his romantic advances. Krendler sabotages the remains of her career because she won’t sleep with him. Nobody at the FBI is willing to believe her testimony over those of the men conspiring against her.
Lecter doesn’t lie to Clarice. Sure, he plays his games in Silence, but does he lie? No. And in Hannibal, he leaves her gun for her. She has the keys to her Mustang. He makes it clear she’s free to go at any time, and, based on all of his behavior with her up to that point, I honestly believe he WOULD let her go without following. He respects her too much. He’s been like this the entire series to her, and that’s why I believe she had a romantic interest in him even before we get to the end of the third novel.
As for the brainwashing bit, two things:
First, Harris’ line about the crossbow is: “Or somewhere Starling may hear a crossbow string and come to some unwilled awakening, if indeed she even sleeps.”
I would agree that Harris is being rather ambiguous here. However, I point out “unwilled,” which suggests that Clarice wouldn’t want to go back to the old way of thinking even if that was the case. But that matters little to me because of the final bit. Is she even asleep? That leads me to my second point.
Do people REALLY think that Clarice Bad Ass Starling, the only one who can make Hannibal Lecter scared, the woman with enough balls to singlehandedly take down Mason Verger’s operation, the woman who sees in Lecter’s psyche something that Chilton tried to see for YEARS and failed to do, would be brainwashed into handing her life away? For money and dick? I think not.
At the end of Hannibal, what does she have to return to? A failed career at the FBI, a place that will never respect her? Sure, she could get another job and live a life being labeled as Frankenstein’s bride, given a run in the tabloids whenever there’s a slow news week. Even if she brought them Hannibal Lecter alive, that wouldn’t be enough. We saw that with her takedown of Jame Gumb and with how she did the best she could at the fish market. Her good deeds are used against her as leverage over and over. There was nothing she could return to. Instead, she chose to be with someone who respected her and understood her on a level no one else could — and vice versa.
So in summation, who doesn’t want to get dick 24/7 on some terrace in Buenos Aires, I mean really?
