Backstory

Is it a blessing or a curse to be all-consumed? Persistence is a godly virtue, but obsession- that is something different altogether. Stag was born to a close-knit family of six in Boston. The second-born son, but the de-facto eldest, Stag was charged with protecting his siblings at any and all costs- a job he has not shied away from, even as he has grown. He excelled academically- or he would have, if he was not forced to work multiple jobs in order to help keep his family afloat. For a moment he resented his situation, cried out at God, demanding an answer for his suffering- but the sound that echoed on the empty walls of bunk-bed were answer enough. No one was listening, no one was responsible for their pain. He resolved to be his family's salvation. Stag worked odd jobs in his youth, and one ill-fated job as a fisherman brought him to Red Creek in September of 1999- just in time to bear witness to the town's unraveling. He often wonders if anyone even remembers him, since he spent so much time holed up in his ramshackle apartment, only emerging for work and groceries. He stayed for the duration of his contract, and not a day longer. His situation changed in 2009, after a odd-job in New York City turned into a permanent job, which turned into a world of open doors and enough money to keep his family comfortable for the foreseeable future. Stag continued to rise in society, and he cultivated a sterling reputation, a weighty bank account, and a stock portfolio that granted him the ability to retire whenever he felt like it. He'd done his job- his family was well cared for, he was stable and financially comfortable, he had everything he could ask for, and he had done it all himself. Instead of retiring to a mansion in the Hamptons, Stag bought a nightclub in a remote town in the Upper Peninsula, and he returned to the town that had haunted him for over twenty years. He was right when he wondered if anyone remembered him- though he was a far cry from the scrawny, awkward, unfortunate 19-year-old that had arrived so many years ago. He was soft-spoken and unassuming, but he carried himself with an air of authority, and he went out of his way to be kind and helpful to the town. He poured money into the town, straight from his personal fortune, and has generally been accepted with open arms. Despite his status as a newcomer, he was elected onto the town council within his first year, and truly enjoys the work he does. He's often found walking along the lakeside, or going on morning runs in the forest. He hates cooking, so he dines at Lakeside Grill and Dolly's quite often. He is often at the Warehouse, but rarely to indulge- he has a small office there, and he keeps a close eye on the operations, always engaging with patrons and sometimes stepping in as a bartender when absolutely necessary.

Wanted Connections

Friends, of course. People he trusts, and people he doesn't trust- all are welcome. People who are using him for his money or stock tips, people who couldn't care less and just... genuinely like him. Waiters at the Grill or the Diner, frequent patrons at the Warehouse that he has started hanging out with outside of the club. People who go on runs with him. Enemies. People that don't trust him or his intentions. Someone who thinks he's rich and snobby. Someone who wanted to buy the Warehouse, but he outbid them. Someone who remembers. It's possible they were casual friends when he briefly lived in Red Creek, or maybe they were strangers! Maybe they found an old picture in their attic, and he was in the background. Either way, he is not a stranger to this person, and they are watching him closely. A romance. I want something intense and complicated for him. I think he has a difficult time accepting love and refuses to let himself be known, but this person is like a siren song to him, and there is no denying that there is a pull there. Added to the fact that he's put off having a family of his own despite desperately wanting one, and there's the possibility for something very spicy and exciting. No gender preference! Neighbor? Stag lives in a large former vacation home along the lakeshore, which he chose for the beauty and the quiet and the luxury of it all, but also the isolation. I think it could be fun if there was someone else living in the row of empty houses, and maybe they are besties or maybe they have beef because he occasionally has loud parties into the early morning after the Warehouse closes. Friends from New York. It would be fun if he had some old relationships that he didn't know were from Red Creek. He has never told anyone about his connection to Red Creek, so him showing up and knowing his way around town would've been quite a shock. Informants. Stag likes to have an idea of what's going on in town, and when. He wants to know the gossip, know who hates who and who's sleeping with who and who has something to hide. He likes to be prepared, to anticipate things before they happen, to feel like he has control of the situation at all times. This connection could be unintentional (they just like to gossip/yap and he happily listens), or intentional (they bring him info in exchange for something). heavily inspired by varys in game of thrones!!!!

Finally gave Outlast trials a try the other day (cause I picked it up for like 50% off a couple weeks ago) and as you can imagine this likely isn't going great for the outlast au brain rot dhdjdkshdns

Cause let me tell you, while this is def getting me in the mood and making me want to write outlast au so bad. It's *also* giving me some fun ideas for what would possibly happen after the events of the au (if it was all for naught and they ended up getting caught anyways) and were put in the trials themselves.
