IV is a known medical term however a few percent of the people know that it stands for Intravenous Access. It is used to directly administer fluids into a vein. There are various types of IV based upon the type of vein it is inserted into, such as peripheral veins, central venous veins, PICC to name a few. There are also variations among IV access infusions depending upon the type of fluid to be administered. The most common type is continuous infusion used to balance out fluids and electrolytes. I'm home after 5 days of iv antibiotics, but still have one week of antibiotics pills to finish. The infection in my knee finally cleared after those 5 days of iv antibiotics. I'm so grateful for my port days like this where I need multiple days of iv access. Also on the last pic, you can't see it very well, but there are those annoying night lamps.. my roommates wanted to keep them on for the night so my amazing nurse taped it so it didn't bother me (they can't turn off one by one, just all of them or none).
