I’m Your Guy by Sarina Bowen
 5 stars
audiobook
Tumblr media
That was so good, so real, and so raw, and beautifully narrated! Tomasso and Carter, complete opposites, but so much chemistry. Tomasso and Carter, at such different places in their lives, but wanting to be with the other. Tomasso and Carter, hiding and open, scared and confused, wanting to turn away, but unable to do so. These two, the things they face, the hurdles they need to overcome, most of them personal, you couldn’t help but root for them, cheer for them, and want them to have the lives they deserve. There was a lot of smiles while listening to this book, there were a few tears too, but mostly, I was caught up in the wondrousness that is Tomasso and Carter <3

leah williamson- i am so proud of you
You are leah williamson younger sister playing in the world cup and it is the quarterfinals against Columbia and Your family has come to watch .
You were really upset that leah wasn't going to be playing with you in your first world cup but you were happy that she and the rest of your family were going to be watching tonight's game .
We had traveled here so i woke up and decided to phone leah as i knew she was coming to the game today .
" Hey le i can not wait to see you today " i say to her
" I know bubs i am so excited to see you smash it today " she replies
We chat for abit longer but then i have to end the phone call as i have to go downstairs.
At breakfast i sat with g and keira as we were all talking about the match later on .
" So do you know if leah is coming to the game today " keira asked
" Yep her , mum and jacob are all coming to watch " i replied with excitement visible in my voice
We all got on the coach to get to the stadium we're we went out on the pitch to check it out .
I was starting up front with russo which i was really hoping to get a goal to make my family proud .
We walked back into the locker room to get ready for warm up .
Once we went back outside for warm up , the stadium was starting to fill up with fans .
I scanned my eyes in hopefully finding leah and the rest of my family but i had no luck .
Carrying on with are usual warm ups  and then i was time to go back into the changing room for the last time before kick off .
You , ella and less were all walking into the locker room as you tried to have a final search for your family but you still had no ideas where they were .
" They are down at the front just look for joe he is right behind them " Ella said
I nodded as i walked to my locker .
I was all set and ready to go just in time to go stand in the tunnel .
We walked out to a roaring stadium which was such a surreal experience.
During the national anthems and i was on a desperate mission to find your family which you finally managed to do as the national anthems ended which brought a smile to your face .
You all huddled round in a circle whilst mille gave a speech .
Team on three
1
2
3
TEAM
you all screamed which sent shivers down your spine as the game began .
We started off strong with both you and alessia having a lot of shots on target but no of them quite going across the line .
We all knew that this was going to be a physical game as Columbia had been pretty physical all tournament but i don't think they were expecting for us to match their physicality.
In the 7 minutes one of their key defenders went down on the pitch clutching her knee .
The medics was immediately on the pitch and it was pretty obvious that she would not be able to continue which was good for us but obviously very and for Colombia .
Things went bad for us in the 44 minute with Colombia scoring a goal . There was nothing that mary could of done there .
6 minutes added on we needed to get the equaliser.
For the whole time me and less we're constantly pressing and trying to score .
It wasn't until the last minute of added time where
the goalkeeper left the ball loose in the box so it was an easy tap in for me to score the equaliser.
I ran of screaming towards leah where she stood with the biggest smile on her face and i sent her a heart before the ref blew her whistle for half time.
" Guys we have got this you have had some amazing chances you just need to finish them properly " sarina spoke trying to give us abit of encouragement
We went back out for the second half searching for a goal . It wasn't until the 63 minute where alessia managed to get a goal past there goal keeper.
We were now in the lead .
Columbia tried to respond by using subs but we were trying to get a third .
I was taken of in the 93 minute for bethany england which i was fine with as i had done my bit to try and get us through to the semi .
The final whitle blew .
We were through the the semi's !
We all celebrated abit before going back out to our family .
Me . keira and g all went over to leah .
" oh guys i am so proud of you " leah said bringing us all into a hug .
All four of us took a photo together with jacob .

Upcoming Book Spotlight: Crash Test by Amy James
There are so many exciting book releases coming in 2025! Since there are so many that it’s difficult to keep track of, I decided to start a series highlighting some that I think readers should be excited about.
These will be mostly queer books and I’ll try to focus on books that don’t already have a lot of buzz. All previous and future posts in this series can be easily found in this tag!
This week’s book is an Achillean sports romance that sounds emotional and involves a secret relationship:
Tumblr media
Formula 1 meets Red, White, & Royal Blue in this contemporary romance in which an F1 phenom battling for the championship is sent spinning after his secret love is involved in a massive crash. Twenty-four-year-old Formula 1 driver Travis Keeping is halfway through an incredible racing season, with the championship well within his sights. But when a massive crash in Formula 2 leaves driver Jacob Nichols in critical condition, Travis’s world is flipped upside down. No one knows, but he and Jacob have been dating for almost a year. Now the only boy he’s ever loved is clinging to life, his F1 team can’t understand why his performance is faltering, and he’s locked in a cold war with Jacob’s parents, who want him as far away from their son as humanly possible. Travis is sure everything will get better when Jacob wakes up, but he soon realizes he’s underestimated Jacob’s parents’ influence on their son. As the F1 season barrels on, Travis and Jacob find themselves alone and miserable on opposite sides of the globe. But with some new friends by their sides, both drivers will be pushed outside of their comfort zones and onto a journey of self-discovery—one that just might lead them back to each other in the end.
Rachel Reid, author of Game Changer, reviews the book with this quote:
"Crash Test is one of the best sports romances I've ever read"
Coming from an incredibly popular writer of some very beloved queer sports romances, that is high praise!
Another author of some very popular queer sports romances, Sarina Bowen, says:
"Crash Test is a deeply romantic page-turner with a pace almost as fast as its F1 drivers! I couldn't put it down."
Emma R. Alban blurbs the book with this:
"Crash Test gives us the all the swoons of a high octane romance alongside a deeply personal, complex, and nuanced portrayal of vulnerability, found family, and the idea that learning to love yourself is as crucial to our happily ever afters as finding our perfect person. Here, we get both!"

Crash Test will be released on July 1, 2025, and is available for pre-order!

So I watched last nights episode just now... and I'll get past my dislike of unnecessary rushed romance once again but like ugh
So here's some highlights (in no particular order):
-Jenkins being sick was hilarious, poor thing is experiencing life to its foulest
-Jacob was a deer in headlights when he saw Sarina (which I think I could like the ship given time and unrushed plot)
-Cassandra pranking Ezekiel was hilarious, until it wasn't. (Even I know drugging him was too far)
-this weird grumpy hate Ezekiel has for camp? What happened to you, Jones?
-it's ok Cassandra. Ezekiel just has camp ptsd or something. Go prank Jacob.
-Ezekiel and Cassandra's 'talent show'
-I'm pretty sure that if you want someone to speak for you, you don't put them in immense pain with a splinter as you whisper them into disorientation!
-Eve and Jacob talking about Flynn
-also did Jacob get that splinter out of his hand? And can he still communicate with the trees every now and then?
-those vines grabbing him like oops gotta go the trees need me
-the dosa guy like "why don't you tell us what you know" all trying to be nonchalant
-Rockwell brags about Baird (its canon)
-Jacob literally falling in love (how can you make that adorable?)
-Eve is like channeling the romantic love she had for Flynn into sisterly love for Stone (like dang somebody is getting her love!)
-Ezekiel taught Jacob how to pick locks, and fast too. I wonder how long that took him?
-well according to Cassandra we now know Jacob knows 64 dialects (holy cow man)
-all those people in the trees...were they taken because the trees thought they could help? And what now for the ones who obviously had been there for a looooong time?
-Jacob looking like grandma willow in Pocahontas
-Sarina wrote about a secret magical society and didn't expect to get fired? Like bro, even I know if you want to keep your job you talk about stuff like that on the internet where people don't know you.
-he showed her the Library? You've known her for a day, Jacob! Stop falling head over heels for women you don't know that well! SHES A REPORTER BRO maybe she might keep your secret maybe she won't I mean YOU BARELY KNOW HER (well at least no one would believe her or dosa would shut it down if she did write about it)
-yeah they could've not had Sarina in that episode and made it more about the lits bonding and realizing that the one librarian thing is crap but oh my bad im projecting my feelings again don't mind me
-Jacob Stone: art historian, cowboy, lover of poems, hopeless romantic, speaker for the trees.
-also I never want to go to camp again because the head guy just covered up those disappearances and what's to say he won't do it again?
Okay that's all I got for now. Thoughts? Got something you like? Something you didn't like? Theories?

Yearly Book Wrap-Up 2023
This is my first time posting on here when it comes to anything personal or related to my interests. Considering this was a big year for me, not only in books but in other areas of life as well, I figured I'd share my book-wrap up for this year.
Ever since finishing my bachelors degree I'd started on my book journey once again. While it had continued during college, it never really felt the same, not until I had graduated. Slowly, year by year, I started to read more book. It had begun to feel how it felt in high school, constantly reading and enjoying myself as I did so.
This year's goal for me was: 40 Books
This year's read count: 55 Books!
I surpassed my goal by 15 books, an achievement I never imagined I would reach. This year I truly felt I was a voracious reader and I could not be any happier.
Under the cut you'll find the books I read this year in order, along with my rating. No reviews as I like to move on to the next book. But if anyone has any question or wishes to talk feel free to on this post in any way or my asks are also open. I hope other's can findthis post for their own enjoyment as well.
Without further ado -

Okay but let’s be honest
one thing that was spot on about the Jake/Sarina thing was how Jake immediately trusted her and even trusted her enough to show her the library
I mean think back to season 1
He immediately had a bond with Cassie and he immediately trusted her because he saw her as a kindred spirit with her being new to the library as well and knowing about it in the first place.
and then cassie betrayed his trust and it took years for her to regain it
so maybe he didn’t learn from two of the mistakes he likes to make
for someone who had to be so secretive all his life he is very, very trusting maybe a bit too much or at least to soon
and how it was written in one of the novels, he gets his head turned round by pretty girls.
so sarina is pretty and she seemed to like similar stuff and she knew about dosa and the library
that all together and the fact that he is a total sweetheart who wouldn’t want her to feel crazy lead to him showing her the library
so now I just hope she won’t write about the library and break this trust. Because I don’t know how well he could handle that.
but seriously pal you can’t just trust a girl because she’s pretty and you have the hots for her.
however he also talked how he always hoped to fall in love.
I think maybe this attributed also a lot to it. I mean he saw her, he really really liked what he saw, but he didn’t know her. (I mena they talke dlike 5 times in total?) but he was so in love with the idea of being in love that maybe he projected it onto her in a “i finally found someone i’m so ready for this” but it wasn’t really about her as a person. I think he simply loved the idea of her  being that someone.

Once again, Jake has the Dean Winchester-style Love Interest of the Week
But he does have actual chemistry with Sarina just like he did with Mabel so that’s a plus

England’s Lionesses: A year of success, hope and online sexism
Back in the summer the Lionesses won the 2022 UEFA Women's European Championship, beating Germany in the final in front of a record breaking crowd attendance.
Tumblr media
Image credit: Jacob Lund – Adobe Stock Image
Off the back of that tournament, the women’s game continues to inspire past, present, and future generations. The FA reported that the Lionesses sporting success improved 84% of spectator’s perceptions of women’s football, created 416,000 new opportunities in schools and clubs for women/girls to engage in grassroots football, and 2 in 5 spectators having been inspired to do more sport and physical activity.
Recently, Lioness Beth Mead took home the 2022 BBC Sports Personality of the Year award, along with the public voting the Lionesses as Team of the Year, and head coach Sarina Wiegman voted as Coach of the Year.
The England Women’s national team have earnt their due respect and proven that women’s football should be taken seriously, in a place where they shouldn’t even have to.
Mainstream media and social media are outlets strategically being misused by media producers and online users/consumers to put all sportspeople (men and women) under scrutiny and online abuse. Despite the glory, inspiration and sheer display of talent, female footballers still experience hate speech and abuse through social media, often fuelled by sexism.

 A bit about social media
Social media was intended to enhance our communication and ability to share with each other, but it now comes with a large variety of negative effects, one of these being cyberbullying, also categorised as hate speech or online abuse.
While some of us are mindful about what we comment online, and how it can negatively impact others who may read it, there is also a proportion of society who are not mindful. These individuals may purposefully choose to send discriminatory messages in order to spread hatred, usually directed towards a specific demographic. Social media has become a minefield of hate speech and it’s becoming hard to avoid.

Women’s football in England and sexism
Historically, sexism towards women in football has always been an issue. In 1921 the FA banned women from playing football, claiming “the game of football is quite unsuitable for females and ought not to be encouraged." It wasn’t until 1971 that the ban was lifted.
Fifty-two years later women’s football continues to be the victim of overt sexism.
The inspirational 2022 Lionesses vs online sexism.
Throughout the European Championships the England team encountered persistent sexism. Prior to the tournament Head Coach Sarina Wiegman expressed she had plans in place for the team as individuals to avoid social media abuse.
During the group stages UEFA revealed 290 flagged cases of online abuse. The Lionesses received the most amount of online abuse out of any nation, with sexism the key theme for 20% of these posts. Encouragingly, 55% of these were removed by social media companies, however the other 45% still sit online.
A HateLab report revealed that by the end of the competition:
23 out of England’s 25-woman squad were targeted with hateful online posts.
Of these posts 96% were sexist/misogynist in nature.
Twitter was the result of 97% of these, and 94% of these posts are still live now.
54% were from Twitter accounts based in the UK and 91% of the abusive posts were sent by users identifying as men.
These statistics alone speak volumes for the amount of online sexist abuse experienced by female football players in England. It almost appears that no matter how these women perform on the pitch, this online sexist abuse will continue to be prevalent.
England left-back Demi Stokes expressed how sexist abuse on social media has “really affected” some Lionesses’ ability both on and off the pitch, expressing the impact of online sexism and hate. She is resigned to the fact that the Lionesses have “always” suffered online hate and probably “always will”.
Hope not hate!
Despite the tireless online sexism and hate speech, the HateLab report identified some positives. The Lionesses gained more than 50,000 positive posts on Twitter and Reddit combined, with there being roughly 125 “hope” posts for every “hate” post.
However, greater legislation action is needed. With the UK set to introduce the Online Safety Bill and the Lionesses leading the forefront in speaking out about the matter, change is imminent. You can do your bit by reporting any unacceptable, abusive posts whenever you see them.

More great hockey authors.
Sarina Bowen, Helena Hunting (her Pucked series is fabulous!), Kennedy Ryan, Jacob Chance, Eddie Cleveland, Odetta Stone. There are so many out there. The Nashville Assassins are my fav but all of them are so good.
I've read the All in series by Helena Hunting and I've heard a lot about her Pucked series too so I'll definitely be reading those books. Thanks for the great suggestions!!
