My 𝐓𝐨𝐩 24 𝐒𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐬 from 2024🎉
I ignored the brief and just did a fun round up of some fave screenies/posts from this year cos apparently i can't read and rules are LAME anyway!! weeee 🤸♀️🧡
January - Oscar scared the shit out of baby Levi and we finally found out where Triss had been hiding 🥹
February - Robin met his bestie Alex on a camping trip and had enough of Levi's bullshit upon returning to school ffkfgjfk
March - Kian got out of prison (ew) and decided to inconvenience his unsuspecting half-brother.. who didn't last long before telling him to shove it.
April - Oscar pissed Ivan off on a road trip of doom and Joey is still Joey..
OH.. and Triss is hot af (no literally.. he's at the beach but also 🥵) also also.. him n' Tilda finally bumped uglies and were very cute
May - Robin saved Levi from a soggy fate and spoke to him for the first time and the Finch's pretty much adopted him, whether he liked it at the time or not!
June - I clearly took a break I forgot about in June so.. random edits woo 🤸♀️
July - Oscar reminded us that addiction never truly goes away... (i think if i had to pick my fave post of the year this would be a top contender!)
August - The Finch family kidnapped Levi and went camping! 🤸♀️🌲 (MR CROWBAR WAS THERE TOO!)
September - School was shit and Levi betrayed Robin's trust :c
October - Things got tense and spooky in Robin's Until Dawn flavoured dream 😱 (probs the highlight of the year in an otherwise shite month for me tbh so yaaay for you guys for making it so fun! 🧡)
November - Alex moved to the Bay!!! in contrast we also spent a few miserable days with Levi and Wren was her savage self and called Penny Budget Barbie which.. was iconic tbh go ginger queen go! 🧡
December - Robin was sick of Levi's stupid "friends" picking on Alex and let loose his inner Oscar, speaking in front of Alex for the first time (rip Aster for missing it tbh like what a time to take a whizz) buuut.. Robin still broke first and decided to stop snubbing Levi cos he felt bad for him ;-;
tyyyy for the tag @zosa95 @hannahssimblr @sirianasims @simvanie @theplottdump 🤸♀️ i'm tagging everyone cos i think we should all look back on our work with a tear in our eye and a slap on the back, srsly go do it and blame me pls ty
what a year! i've spent most of this year feeling a bit overwhelmed and like i've not been getting anywhere/as far as i wanted to ffkfj but looking back i suppose it was pretty jam packed so maybe i should give myself a break (ahaaaajsdkj NEVER) anyway.. good times 🤸♀️ i've no idea what 2025 will have in store for me tbh but long live the Finch's i guess! 🧡
thank you to anyone who's been around with me this year, and those past! love you all 😘

june '24 favs:
a storm of swords ; george r r martin — third book in the 'a song of ice and fire' series, and it may just be my fav instalment yet. i was left utterly speechless over the plot twists in here. one of the best examples of modern fantasy.
the lost daughter ; elena ferrante — it's elena ferrante, of course it's on this list. an intimate character study of leda, a divorcee who suddenly finds herself with zero responsibilities after her daughters move away. a poignant, visceral look into motherhood (girlies with mummy issues, tread with caution😭)
giovanni's room ; james baldwin — the iconic gay, parisian classic. this was my first baldwin, and it's definitely not going to be my last. i haven't been this enthralled by the writing in a classic since 'the picture of dorian gray'. beautiful, gut-wrenching, a must-read for anyone into the classics!!

Happy Birthday WTB!

On the 17th of November What's the Bird turns 1 year old.
To celebrate, we will be rolling out our stats for the year each day this week. Think of it as our yearly wrapped.
But! This is a quiz blog after all, we can't just show you the results. There will be one quiz per day testing to see if you've payed attention.
Don't worry, it is open book and we wont keep you waiting a week for answers. We will place the solution under each quiz.
This will not replace the daily quiz of course! It is just a fun addition to the day.

March 2025 highlights 📖
A month of new journals and getting back into taking book related photos.
I'm going to start making these monthly highlight posts of my favourite photos of the month. All timestamped with the time the image was taken. I have the written versions of my monthly wrap ups but I thought having these photo versions would be nice too.

March 2025 reading wrap up
I was not expecting so many books this month, but I guess those are the consequences of the big return of audiobooks in my life! I had missed listening to audiobooks and my overall lack of energies this month made me pick the habit back up, and I am having a great time! It was overall a lovely month of reading. It was quite chaotic, but I feel like it perfectly represents my goal of embracing whatever feels natural in my reading life. I picked books up, let them go, paused stuff, had some rereads, found my love for audiobooks again, a lot happened, but I am happy. This proves that letting myself be chaotic and just listening to my needs in reading makes a great reading time, which is exactly the point of my yearly goal of no goals, and just going with what feels the most natural.
Books read:
Cultish by Amanda Montell (audiobook)
The Decagon House Murders by Ayatsuji Yukito
A Psalm For The Wild Built by Becky Chambers (audiobook) (reread)
The Lord Of The Flies - the graphic novel adaptation by W. Golding and illustrated by A. De Jongh
Nimona by ND Stevenson (reread)
Emily Wilde's Encyclopaedia of Faries by Heather Fawcett (audiobook)
Deadendia: The Watcher's Test by Hamish Steele (reread) (read this for the trans rights readathon)
The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irvin (audiobook)
Deadendia: The Broken Halo by Hamish Steele (reread) (trans rights readathon read)
Dnf:
Witchcraft for Wayward Girls by Grady Hendrix (when I started it I was having a good time but by the end it became a painful task. I risked a reading slump. This was way too long and slow. I doubt I will attempt to read another Grady Hendrix book in the future)
Paused:
Compound Fracture by Andrew Joseph White (I read around 60 pages, was loving it, but I realized how emotionally heavy it is going to be, and I am not at all in the right headspace to deal with those kind of emotions. So I decided to pause it and save it for when I'll feel a bit stronger emotionally)
Current reads (books I have not necessarly started on March but I have been reading and haven't finished yet):
Re:carmilla (audio adaptation of Carmilla by S. Le Fanu)
Emily Wilde's Map Of Otherlands by Heather Fawcett (I actually finished it today but it is the new month so I won't include it in the reads for March)
#i would also like to mention that i am having so much fun with these monthly wrap ups#i know i kind of given up on book reviews for each read but this new thing brings me joy#also if anyone is interested in actual opinions on the books I read I am always up to post a little review#just let me know#i always love to yap about books so yea#i also might post a quartely update on my reading year so far as i had mentioned at the beginning of the year#we'll see if i have enough brain energy to do so but it might be a fun activity as i am on my break from studying#book#bookblr#booklr#reading#march 2025 reading wrap up#wrap up#reading wrap up#monthly wrap up#books#knife gang#the---hermit

June '25 Wrap Up
I have a tag list for when I post wrap ups! If you want to be added to or removed from it, please let me know!
I read so much this month!! I'm so happy about this and it's mainly due to getting into audiobooks (they make so many mundane tasks enjoyable). It feels so good to fly through books again and not view reading as a chore.
The Ship of the Dead (Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard #3) by Rick Riordan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I listened completely on audiobook and really enjoyed it. I loved the way Magnus defeated Loki, it was so heartwarming. The grief aspects with Magnus and Hearthstone's characters were well written. I liked that the Room 19 crew characters were involved more and I got to learn more about them, especially Mallory. I also thought the inclusion of religion with Samirah during Ramadan and her dynamic with Magnus as an atheist with interesting too.
2. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (The Chronicles of Narnia #3) by C.S. Lewis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I nearly cried at the ending, it was so sad with the Pevensie's saying goodbye to Narnia and Reepicheep going to Aslan's country. I loved seeing Caspian develop as a king and leader over the course of the story. I liked the allegory thoughout but at some places I was thinking "this has to mean something but what?". I was probably overthinking it though. Every time I read a Narnia book, I'm always surprised how Aslan is written so well. I love his appearances in the story to guide the characters. I also listened to this on audiobook and the narrator did wonderful for Reepicheep and Eustace's voices. Reepicheep's high pitched voice and Eustance's snobbish tone made me laugh a lot. I loved Reepicheep's bravery and loyalty throughout too, it never wavered.
3. The Unlikely Escape of Uriah Heep by H.G. Wells ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
This was a recommendation from @novelmonger for the Book Rec Exchange (if anyone else wants to participate in this, I'd love to exchange recommendations). I liked the literary analysis of various stories and fiction in general. Charley was very lovable and sweet as a character. I liked the various fictional characters and how they were portrayed in the book, like White Witch riding a motorcycle into battle. It did remind me of Inkheart because of the fictional characters that are brought into our world by a reader. I thought it was interesting the author chose to have Rob, Charley's brother as the narrator, not Charley himself. The ending was good, I loved how Rob saved Charley. Overall, it was a good book, but had a slow pace for me.
4. The Faithless Hawk (The Merciful Crow #2) by Margaret Owen ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I loved this book, it was much better than the first one. The character's were so well done and I loved the friendship that developed between Jasimir and Fie. The plot twists shocked me a few times too and that's always an awesome feeling. The espionage parts of this were fun and the banter had me laughing out loud at many points.
5. The Hunger Games (The Hunger Games #1) by Suzanne Collins ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I was on the edge of my seat and couldn't put the book down once I got into it. It did take me a little while to get used to the writing style. It was so suspenseful and disturbing with the Capitol and how this awful thing is like a reality show. I hope the characters and world are fleshed out more in the next book.
6. The Hidden Oracle (The Trials of Apollo #1) by Rick Riordan ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
I also listened to this as an audiobook. I loved Apollo's arc through this book, how he is humbled, loses his godly pride, and forms friendships. I loved his friendship with Meg. And Percy's cameos were good too. I'm not sure how I feel about the villain in this book, it was a twist I wasn't expecting. Nico and Will's banter was good too, it made me laugh a few times.
7. The Silver Chair (The Chronicles of Narnia #4) by C.S. Lewis ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Yet another audiobook I listened to. The ending made me so emotional because of how Caspian and his son were finally reunited only to be separated again. I was also emotional when Eustace finally got to talk to Caspian again. I loved Puddleglum's character, his faith in Aslan while being pessimistic was interesting. I liked Jill's characterization and how Eustace still very much feels like the same character he was in the last book, while being slightly kinder. I liked exploring a different part of Narnia and the Underland too.

May 2025 Wrap Up
This felt like the longest month ever. And it was kind of sad for me because I wasn't able to graduate as planned whereas a bunch of my friends were. So I'll be finishing the dissertation over the summer, which is really not what I wanted. Oh well. At least there were lots of books!
Books Read: 12
Overall this was a really good reading month. Not only did I read a lot, the ratings were also mostly high. My favorite is definitely Jane Austen's Bookshelf, which is currently my favorite book of the year. I will say I was a bit disappointed with Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear. It's not that it was bad, but it wasn't as good as the other books in the series imo. Books marked with ® are rereads.
The September House by Carissa Orlando - 5 stars
Adrift in Currents Clean and Clear by Seanan McGuire - 3.5 stars
Pamela by Samuel Richardson - 4 stars
Jane Austen's Bookshelf: A Rare Book Collector's Quest to Find the Women Writers Who Shaped a Legend by Rebecca Romney - 5 stars
The Crimson Crown by Heather Walter - 4 stars
Transformations by Anne Sexton - 4 stars
The Good Earth by Pearl S. Buck - 3 stars ®
The Mysterious Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie - 4 stars ®
The Murder on the Links by Agatha Christie - 4 stars
The Heir of Redclyffe by Charlotte Mary Yonge - 5 stars
The Heroine's Journey: For Writers, Readers, and Fans of Pop Culture by Gail Carriger - 4 stars
Tom Jones by Henry Fielding - 3 stars
Books DNFed:
Jack by Marilynne Robinson - This was disappointing since I enjoyed the first three books so much. But I just couldn't get into this one. The writing felt different and I didn't like it.

i can't do an april wrap-up/monthly book recommendation post because i only finished one book in april, and it was a short story(🥴)
april was a month of travelling, of exploring, and of heartbreak (having to reject an offer from oxford because i can't afford relocating rn is going to haunt me for the rest of my life). reading, for the first time in a long time, hasn't been a priority for me, and that feels really good??

A little something.
I only picked digital art back up on may, so I can't do a month by month. So I chose to display the pieces I'm most proud of. Despite the rocky start, 2024 turned out to be a good year.
I've been blessed with opportunites, and had people actually ask me for comissions! I still can't believe my luck. I used to (and still do, tbh) daydream about earning money by drawing and painting, and I can finally check that off the list.
Through art, I also met a good few nice people. I'm fairly shy, and very much introverted, so I tend to keep to myself and enjoy life that way. But meeting new people, who're talented and enthusiastic... It reminds me of way back when in 2008, when I used to spend every day in online forums. It's awesome.
I hope you have done things to be proud of this year, and if you haven't I wish 2025 will be different. I can tell you, it feels really good to look back and see that it wasn't all a waste, so I desire you to feel the same at some point.
I'm just rambling now, and showing how poor my English really is LOL. You got the gist of it, I guess.
Cheers.
