Beautiful Thing (film)
Trama
Sandra passa a aceitar a sexualidade do filho.

Stephen Holden do The New York Times comentou: "A Sra.

The Cost of Solar Panels -- and Are They Worth It?
Tumblr media
You may be considering tapping into the sun’s energy to power your home, but know that putting in solar panels can be a process that isn’t the same for everyone. “Going solar is, for many reasons, a smart and admirable thing to do — if it’s the right fit and the right time for you,” says Zak Elgart, clean energy manager at Relay Power in the Boston area.
Before moving forward, you’ll want to consider the immediate expenses that adding solar panels will generate. You can also evaluate long-term benefits. Weighing the immediate and ongoing impact will help you make the right decision when it comes to solar panels for your home.
[See: 12 Ways to Save Money Without Trying.]
The Initial Cost of Solar Panels
Adding solar energy as a power source involves much more than just installing the panels. “Part of the process of going solar should include a detailed site survey, where any outside costs regarding roof replacement, tree removal, electrical upgrades and usage factors are identified and calculated into the project,” Elgart says. You may find that your roof needs to be repaired or upgraded to support the panels.
In addition, if your roof is scheduled to be replaced soon, such as within the next five years, that will be an important cost factor to consider. “Solar modules will last for 25 years, which is also the rated life of many shingle roof products,” says Steven Hegedus, professor of electrical and computer engineering at the University of Delaware and a senior scientist with the Institute of Energy Conversion. “You don’t want to have them installed on a roof that only has five to 10 years left in its warranty life.” Some solar installation companies operate with local roofing companies and may offer you a package deal.
Adding solar panels will differ from other roof projects. “There are costs associated with permitting, interconnections, system design, inspections and much more,” says Jayson Waller, founder and CEO of Powerhome Solar, who is based in Birmingham, Michigan. After installing the panels, you’ll have to pay for maintenance on them, which might include cleaning the panels once or twice a year.
Story continues
You may be eligible for a federal tax credit, along with state and municipality tax credits, depending on where you live. The current value of the federal solar tax credit is 26% until 2022. “This is significant for eligible homeowners because it gives them a dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of income tax they would otherwise owe,” Waller says. State and municipality tax credits vary. Some places, such as South Carolina, offer a 25% state tax credit on solar installations. If you live in South Carolina, you could receive a 51% credit on the net cost of your solar panels from the federal and state incentives.
[Read: Tax Write-Offs You Shouldn’t Overlook.]
The Long-Term Value of Solar Panels
After you’ve paid the initial upfront costs of solar panels, you may realize several monetary benefits over time. “Many states, cities or utility providers have incentives called solar or renewable energy credits that provide small payments to the owner for the electricity they generate,” Hegedus says. Most states also have a policy known as net metering, which allows you to sell any electricity you don’t use back to the grid. “If your state does not have this policy, you might want to consider batteries to store your excess energy and use it yourself at night,” Hegedus says.
As the years go by, you may recoup the initial costs of your investment, and then can continue saving on energy bills. “The cost of a residential solar rooftop system has fallen dramatically in the last five to eight years,” Hegedus says. “Payback time depends strongly on the price you pay for electricity and the amount of sunlight.” While the time frame will vary, in many areas you’ll have paid off your investment in six to eight years.
Solar installation companies can often work with you to provide an estimate of the long-term value. “I would recommend getting three quotes from local installers,” says Joshua M. Pearce, a professor of materials science and engineering at Michigan Technological University. “These will generally come with their predictions of the economics of the system.” You can also use a solar calculator to evaluate long-term benefits, such as this one from the U.S. government.
[See: 10 Ways to Save Energy and Lower Your Utility Bills.]
How to Decide if Solar Panels Are Right for You
If you plan to live in your home for the next decade, you may be there long enough to recoup your initial cost and reap the energy-saving benefits of solar power. Homeowners that move or sell may be able to highlight solar panels as a feature of the property. “Adding solar panels and storage can potentially increase the home’s value,” Waller says.
Determining the initial costs, along with how you’ll pay for them, can also be important. For instance, if you pay cash for the installation, which can frequently range from $10,000 to $40,000, you’ll often have to give the amount upfront. You’ll then receive some funds back in the form of tax credits and other state or local benefits. If you take out a loan to pay for the installation, there may be interest rates and other terms to consider.
Solar power systems can be installed in both southern and northern climates. “Panels will protect your roof and work in all environments,” Pearce says. “Even in extreme cold environments you don’t have to worry about issues like snow much.”
After weighing the pros and cons, the ultimate decision will be up to you, your budget and future home plans. If you’re not planning to move in the near future, going solar could be an investment with a long-term reasonable rate of return. “It’s an exciting time and if your home and financial situation line up for it, you can save energy, money, the planet and make a legacy move you can be proud of,” Elgart says.

As you may have seen, today is the last day of publishing for Sports On Earth. I wrote many, many words for Sports On Earth, but I also hosted more than 500 The Will Leitch Experience podcasts. For the first two years, the show was in fact a daily podcast, which seems insane now. I do not know if the podcast itself is going to continue – obviously Grierson & Leitch and WSLS are continuing – but if it does, it won’t be under the Sports On Earth name.
So at the very least, this seems like a good time to reflect on the podcast itself. I don’t know if I’m the best interviewer, but my philosophy on podcasts has always been that if you get two smart people and just tape them talking to one another, you can’t help but capture something worthwhile, even accidentally. I loved doing the show because I loved talking to smart people about things they cared about. That’s what podcasts are for, I think: To dig deep into things with people who don’t usually get to dig deep on things. That was always the goal.
And we had a rather insane assortment of guests, from Patrick Stewart to Peter Billingsley to Red Panda Acrobat. Below is a list of every guest every to appear on The Will Leitch Experience podcast. This seems about as thorough a cross-section of sports media over the last five years that I can come up with.

Beautiful Thing (film)
Trama
Sandra passa a aceitar a sexualidade do filho.

Stephen Holden do The New York Times comentou: "A Sra.

Shuffle Up: The joy of Michael Conforto
yahoo
What we’re doing is ranking the players for expected 5×5 roto value the rest of the season. What’s happened to this point is merely an audition. Don’t worry about the prices in a vacuum; what really matters is how the commodities relate to one another on this list. Players at the same cost are considered even.
Today’s assignment: outfield. You won’t find anyone who’s solely an infielder on this list, and I’ll give catchers their own shuffle, too. Starting pitchers (the granddaddy of them all) will be shuffled next week.
[Fantasy Football is open! Sign up now and start winning season early]
I reserve the right to tweak this list in the first 24 hours of debut. Your intelligent and respectful disagreement is most welcome, but be sure to defend your arguments. Win that debate, win that rank.
You’re supposed to have some disagreements, that’s why we have a game. And if you don’t care for my ranking process or results, that’s fine; go follow another baseball writer who speaks your language and says what you want to hear.
I’m still fiddling around with the ideal format for the presentation; if you don’t like what you see, no worries. I welcome suggestions, as well.
I ranked players on the disabled list, but I will not debate their prices. They’re worth whatever you want them to be. Generally, everyone seems to be more bullish on long-term injury guys than I am. I’m also not ranking anyone in the minors.
And please remember the golden rule of Shuffle Ups: no player gains (or loses) 15-20 percent of value simply because you roster him.
Enough preamble, game on. If I missed any non-catcher who qualifies, let em know. Again, today’s assignment is outfield.
$41 Mike Trout $38 Mookie Betts $36 Bryce Harper $36 Charlie Blackmon $33 Kris Bryant $25 Nelson Cruz $25 Eric Thames $25 J.D. Martinez $23 Michael Conforto $23 Aaron Judge $23 Giancarlo Stanton
The Mets are finally giving Conforto a shot to play against lefties, and although the sample is tiny, he’s slashed .316/.435/.789 against them and hit three home runs. I’ll never understand why some teams decide to shield their prospects from possible development, rather than give them the experience and see if they can improve, figure things out. (I realize it can be a mistake to assume rational coaching, especially from a team like the Mets, but I’m not concerned about Conforto’s playing time forward, even when Yoenis Cespedes comes back.)
Thames is pretty easy to trust this deep into the season because he’s controlling his at-bats so well; a juicy walk rate, a low chase rate, and even a modest strikeout rate for a power hitter.
$22 Billy Hamilton $22 Miguel Sano $22 Matt Kemp $21 Ryan Braun $20 *A.J. Pollock $20 Wil Myers $20 Andrew Benintendi $20 Marcell Ozuna $20 Trea Turner $19 *Yoenis Cespedes $19 Carlos Gonzalez
Cargo has been able to stay healthy for the last few years, so we can stop holding that against him. Let’s look at the monthly OPS splits, starting in April: .778, .886, .871, .924, .869, .839. And with the Rockies contending, Gonzalez probably won’t show up in trade discussions. I feel like it’s been said by 100 different writers, so maybe it’s not executable — but you should at least try to get Gonzalez at a discount. Heck, maybe he’s worth a full pay at the moment. There’s still a game-breaking upside here.
$19 Jose Bautista $18 Corey Dickerson $18 Cody Bellinger $18 Mark Trumbo $18 Justin Upton $17 Adam Jones $17 Aaron Altherr $17 Ian Desmond $17 Michael Brantley $16 Adam Duvall $16 George Springer
I think the Astros finally gave Springer the red light on the bases that he deserves, and he’s never going to be much of an average hitter. Thus, you’re looking at a three-category player. Okay, there’s some value to that, but some pundits thought this was a future MVP. Maybe this is as good as it gets.
$15 Matt Holliday $15 Brett Gardner $15 Keon Broxton $15 Kevin Pillar $15 Chris Owings $15 Josh Bell $14 Ender Inciarte $14 Eduardo Nunez $14 Jacoby Ellsbury $14 Khris Davis $14 *Christian Yelich $14 Jose Ramirez $13 Scott Schebler $13 Avisail Garcia $13 Hernan Perez $13 Domingo Santana $13 David Peralta $13 Josh Reddick $13 Jayson Werth $13 Brandon Belt $13 *Gregory Polanco $12 Carlos Santana $12 Yasmany Tomas $12 Max Kepler $11 Andrew McCutchen $11 Kendrys Morales $11 Marwin Gonzalez $11 Brandon Drury $11 Jay Bruce $11 Lorenzo Cain $11 Manuel Margot
Is Cain now just a one-category player? KC’s soul-crushing offense is a drain on Cain’s run production, and he hasn’t hit for any power this year. We appreciate the speed, and he’s still a plus defender, but there isn’t much else here. Do the Nats have a good trade piece for Cain? He’d be a reasonable replacement for Adam Eaton, though he’s not as dynamic as a healthy Eaton.
It’s sad to see McCutchen struggling like this; the mind is still there, the will is still there, but the athleticism is gone. He’s no longer a plus defender, and too much of his contact is soft, easily converted into outs. Maybe you can still cash in on his name brand to some extent, but it won’t be to me.
$10 Dexter Fowler $10 Odubel Herrera $9 Shin-Soo Choo $9 Cameron Maybin $8 Yasiel Puig $7 Ian Happ $7 *David Dahl $7 *Starling Marte $7 Aaron Hicks
If the Yankees committed to Hicks as a full-time player, he’d easily become a double-digit asset. More on that here. $7 Kevin Kiermaier $7 Jackie Bradley $7 Nomar Mazara $6 Leury Garcia $6 Delino DeShields $6 Michael Taylor $6 Kole Calhoun $6 Ben Zobrist $5 *Carlos Gomez $5 Jarrod Dyson $5 Lonnie Chisenhall $5 Matt Adams $5 *Hunter Pence $4 Kolten Wong $4 Randal Grichuk $4 Danny Valencia $4 Jose Peraza $4 Carlos Beltran $4 Jason Heyward $4 Joc Pederson $4 *Mitch Haniger $3 Nick Markakis $3 Jorge Bonifacio $3 Ben Gamel $3 Byron Buxton
If Buxton can keep the walk rate over 10 percent and start to turn his elite speed into 30 or more bags a year, we might be onto something. He’s probably going to be a double-digit home run guy eventually. Think the good version of Carlos Gomez, if he pops, and the bad side of B.J. Upton if he doesn’t. Of course, Minnesota pitchers probably don’t care if Buxton bats .100, given how angelic his defense is.
