During the Clone Wars, Jedi Padawans who used to focus only on training were elevated to Commanders in the Grand Army of the Republic. I made this playlist inspired by the young padawans thrust into this role. Feeling the responsibility and pressure in a war zone. Please check it out!
Tumblr media
A Jedi Commander's role was mostly to assist their master and general, yet they were often expected to take on missions or actions without the help of their master.
Tumblr media
Mace Windu: "While you depart for Cato Neimoidia, we have a new matter to discuss: the chancellor's request to prepare Padawans for the field."
Obi-Wan Kenobi: "Padawans for the military?"
Tumblr media
"Jedi Military Integration Act, which officially made fully-trained Jedi into generals. Jedi who were still training as Padawans, meanwhile, were granted the official but lesser rank of commander. Many in the Republic found the footage of the teenage Jedi Commanders leading full grown clones strange"
Tumblr media
"Jedi Commander outranked all clones except Clone Commanders. Jedi Commanders were also still subordinate to the higher-ranked Jedi General and were given authority over clone forces as large as a regiment"

I love to imagine the training differences between the Jedi and the Clones. Not even like the difficulty of attitude towards it but the trainers themselves and what’s expected.
These clones need to grow up fast and learn to overcome personal issues and batch problems quickly. Their trainers (trainers that are older Clones such as Colt or Alpha-17) are harsh but ready to show them the way. They will yell and scream and beat their lessons into them, but when all is said an done they'll treat the cadets wounds with bacta and soft words, holding them if needed.
Jedi trainers and NOT THAT. They are sweet, gentle (most of the time (they are dealing with kids)), patient, loving, and caring. They use a slow and steady hand to guide the younglings, not only with physical training but also their personal training. They will work with the younglings, slow and patient til they understand and get it.
All of this deep dive for one comedic scene in my brain. Anyway.
In order to bridge the gap between the two organizations, several small groups of jedi younglings are taken to Kamino to meet other cadets and learn how they think/act for when each group joins the war. The younglings get to view training, visit the tubies and clones of all ages, speak with the trainers/commanders stationed there, see some of the labs, and play with some of the 'babies' and younger cadets.
During the view of a spar, the younglings are quiet and taking in the cadets (about age 10 looking) with each other. Alpha-17 is talking to the younglings, explaining their regiment and who is good at what. Once the spar is done, 17 has the same two cadets go again. He explains what he is looking for, how he sees their spar, when -after the third spar with the same pair- 17 pauses and screams:
"CT-42-9686! You drop that arm again before you're strike and i'll break it off and beat you with it! Raise it up! Do it again or I'll give you to Havoc and he'll beat it out of you!
Needless to say this got some questionable reactions and lots of squawking from the Jedi Trainer and younglings. While, the cadet adjusted his form and the others laughed.
When the younglings reaturned to their friends at the temple, they were aprehensive to share their stories of scary Clone Trainers that were mean and yelled at the Cadets and the Cadets who seemed to like it!
Meanwhile, the cadets are astonished when they had visited the temple and a Jedi trainer paused a spar and personally adjusted the younglings form and then quietly explained why it was better to do the adjustment. The next few times the youngling forgot the adjustment, the Trainer would call out 'do the adjustment!' softly and kindly.
When they returned to Kamino, they didn't know how to start explaining the Jedi's teaching methods. There were not words for them. The next time they got yelled at, they ran up and hugged their trainer and cried at how happy they were.
Needless to say, neither group will be changing their training methods any time soon.

Reread some of Glass Abyss this weekend and it gave me Thoughts
There was one line in which Mace thinks something like (paraphrasing) "at the limits of exhaustion is where Jedi training begins."
Side note: this is immediately followed by smth like "a ten klick run before training is common." While I can't run for shit I know some runners that eat 10km runs for breakfast so idk how great of an example that is but I digress
Anyway it really got me thinking about how fuckin intense Jedi training must be given that the objective is literally "learn to survive any impossible situation."
And THAT got me thinking about how that intensity is the reason that the Master/Padawan bond exists and is a necessary part of training. Given that the training that a Padawan must do is designed to take them past their mental/physical/emotional limits, its imperative to make sure that the Master conducting the training is able to know them inside and out, to know when is enough. And for a Padawan to feel like they literally can't take anymore but still be told to keep going, they have to have complete and total trust in their Master that they won't be pushed to literal death.
And agh it's just so interesting to think about the sheer intensity of Jedi training, and it's something I feel like I've neglected in my own writing. And now I want to rewrite half of my works just to reflect it.

The five core protagonists of Young Jedi Knights (or as I like to call them, the Bantha Clan) and the two Masters who oversaw the Jedi Praxeum. Anything you’d change about that series?
Yes, I know Kam wasn’t actually in Young Jedi Knights, but considering the lore of him being Tionne’s husband and the Jedi Battlemaster at the time, it would’ve honestly made sense for him to be involved in the quintet’s training. I’d like to see how he’d handle the situation with Jacen and Tenel Ka in particular.

odd tho, that right at the finish line to the revenge of the sith (a thousand years in the making) sheev would send maul to fight some jedi on naboo, right? when by all means he got the result he wanted from the jedi 'winning' that conflict. big risk of discovery innit?
unless that wasn't about the planet at all. unless sheev wanted maul to fight qui-gon, specifically. ya know, sith historically love pitting apprentices against each other...
...and qui-gon was all about the prophecy of the chosen one, right?
and like, there's only a few canon sith, versus a metric ton of jedi. fifty thousand or something?
cool.
... what did everyone think 'balance' meant?
yeah so, what IF qui-gon knew what kind of monster anakin was going to become.
what IF qui-gon was another sith apprentice.
what if that duel was 'who gets to train anakin' and either way the jedi lose?
lil ani, destined to bring balance to the force? well. he did. in a manner of speaking.
anyhoo. sith qui-gon au, amirite?

Rey "Size Queen" Skywalker.
All girls should get a little something for the effort.
I guess if you're a Jedi In Training you get The Bigger Somethings.
Just an observation.

My thoughts on the Jedi MedCorps
I'm of the option that most Jedi healers should be part of the MedCorps instead of Jedi knights, mostly because the learning at the MedCorps starte around the same time as Padawan training and is more focused on medicine than the general Padawan training does.
I also think that the MedCorps has probably a good amount of medical resources specializes in different fields , that can probably be split in two groups, generall research for every thing that occurs but doesn't really cause epidemics and The ones specialized in epidemics that often leave the hall of healing and research sight while helping out.
I also think that the members of the Med corps have a verity of profession but a brought knowledge of different other professions.
Like The ones working more as nurses are also aware how to assist in emergency, the medical technicians also sometimes help out as nurses or even doctors.
There is also a part of the corps that specialize in crisis help on different planets. As surgeons, doctors, nurses and medics both in battle and in other crisis.
A also disagree with the thought that he medCorps is one of the smallest that is as if you said relief organizations are less because the generell infrastructure in normal places is better. Or to say the AgraCorps is smaller because there is already also to Farming happening even if (in my option) what they have over they export to places that really need help with their food supply.
+ 1 random other thought
I'm convinced that most of the Educational as well as Exploration Corps have a good basis in self defense, so do some of the more crisis focused MedCorps members, by fare no Jedi Kights but they could protect children/patients/them self incase of an attack on their class/filed hospital/research camp if in unstable area or war zone

My boys. I love them so much.
They move in unison, side by side. Both jedi step to the left, sabers up, now they swing in a slow arc over their heads to face right, sabers extended. One, two, three, four... Now they move faster, blue and green blades humming through the air. One, two, three, four...now even faster and both of them are panting with the effort, laughing together at their success.

Regular people: 30-ish Fulcrum!Ahsoka fighting Palpatine's Empire
Me: Time-travelled, subjectively not quite 17-year-old Ahsoka having emotionally charged conversations with Master Jaina Solo about the intersectionality of being a Jedi and being a soldier

As previously mentioned, sometimes writing this Mara memoir is very frustrating because there are absolutely conversations that could have happened and potentially resolved a few things for our OTP sooner. And not all of those conversations involve Luke and Mara actually talking to each other either. It is canon that Kyle Katarn completes his training at some point, seemingly before Luke and Mara get married, and he has a story to tell...
Kyle Katarn could sense a change coming over Master Skywalker and he fell into a disquieted silence as he watched his teacher stand up and ask Master Solusar to take over the interview. Without a further word, Luke Skywalker left the practice room fast enough that his Jedi robe billowed behind him.
“What just happened?”
Kam Solusar turned back to meet Kyle’s concerned gaze.
“I’m not entirely certain,” he offered, “but I don’t think it is anything for you to worry about.”
“Some sort of emergency?”
“Maybe. I expect he will clarify later. Please continue.”
Kyle finished his account of Mara Jade’s poise and unexpected calm as he’d held his lightsaber menacingly at her throat, until the magnitude of what he was considering had overwhelmed him. It had been one thing he explained to think about darkness. It was another entirely to commit so much to any given set of ideas that he would be willing to kill his friends and family for it.
When he finished his account of his experience with the dark side, Master Solusar seemed pleased.
“It sounds to me like your encounter was one we may all touch at some point. While you struggled in its clutches for a while, with the help of a friend, you found your way back. It is a reminder that we all find ourselves in need of friends and fellow Jedi to help us along the way. Please remember this as you consider your trials.”
Kyle nodded in acknowledgement, but couldn’t help but wonder if Master Skywalker had a different opinion of him.
The Jedi Master caught up with him outside the sparring field just after breakfast the next morning.
“I want to apologize for my quick departure yesterday.” he opened with an expression that matched his words,  “It was unnecessary and probably made your story harder to tell than it otherwise would have been. I do not find your experience with the dark side too horrifying to handle. Just something about it hit me in a way I needed to sort out with myself and that was not your fault at all.”
“I appreciate the explanation but you don’t have to apologize, Master Skywalker.” He paused but then found he couldn’t resist exploring the hunch, “it was because of Mara, wasn’t it?
“Pardon?” All of a sudden, Luke Skywalker’s eyes seemed wider than usual, his expression more vulnerable.
“You handled all of it - my story of the voices and the disembodied feelings and power fantasies and the lies I told and the creatures I killed and my anger at Jan, all of it. You sat calmly and patiently filled with sympathy and understanding.” Kyle smiled,  “but then I told you that I’d threatened Mara. I told you I declared she would join me or die and that I’d held my lightsaber to her throat and she hadn’t flinched or backed down, and you turned to stone.” Kyle’s smile ventured into grin territory, “a very angry stone, I might add.”
“I -” The Jedi Master was beyond flustered.
“It’s okay, Master Skywalker. I care about Mara too. She’s one of my best friends and she and Jan have a great time together. In fact, you should see what they get up to when they visit with Mirax and Iella.” He watched the Jedi Master’s jaw drop slightly, “or maybe you shouldn’t.”
Master Skywalker pulled himself together but still seemed remarkably nonplussed.
“Yes, well, clearly the two of you have worked it out, and that is what matters. It’s none of my business and my reaction was not appropriate as your teacher. I am sorry.”
“Possibly not.” Kyle agreed, “but since you had a reaction, you might want to talk to her about it.”
“If she wanted me to know about it, she would have told me.”
Kyle looked at Luke suspiciously, “you sure about that?”
“Did you wish for me to hear the end of your account, or was it sufficient to share your story with Master Solusar and we can move on to preparing for your trials?”
