Update on my crisis about the Magicians- this is going to be a rant

I just finished season five

Disclaimer this is all just my opinion, no hard feelings to anyone who thinks differently.

Im sorry but first and foremost- the Charlton Eliot pairing. The ONLY reason they were put together is to have Eliot be with someone emotionally available. To have a happy ending. Except ZERO CHEMISTRY. AT ALL. This is partially because I’m a die hard Queliot supporter, but STILL

Part of this as well is that I watched the whole show in just a few days, so the whiplash of Eliot and Q’s entire arc DEFINITELY has not worn off

Also on the subject of Eliot, WHY CAN HE NOT HAVE ANYTHING. They literally took all of his friends away LAST MINUTE. I thought he would have a complete arc, where he begins to learn to love himself through his friends and slowly starts to heal and all of this would lead to a beautiful conclusion but NO???? SERIOUSLY? They just- man I’m so upset.

It’s clear that I’m a big Eliot fan here, but I also have opinions on non Eliot related things

Penny and Julia

I understand the alternate timeline stuff but- it really doesn’t make sense. It felt so instant and forced, as well as the whole pregnancy thing? I don’t know I just found it strange.

I knew already that I probably wouldn’t be too fond of the final season, considering one of my two favourite characters was- well, dead and gone- but I didn’t expect to be this angry about the conclusion

I would love to hear positive opinions on the fifth season from anyone who has them

I will start

Eliot and Alice coming to terms with Q’s death was beautiful, I think both journeys were portrayed very well.

The musical heist episode was great, so was the apocalypse time loop episode.

Eliot being able to talk to Charlton in his head as a kind of conscience was very interesting and I enjoyed the dynamic- NOT AS ROMANTIC INTERESTS but I digress

I think Kady growing into her own was a very good arc, well executed and enjoyable.

I really liked the elaboration on Fen as a character, and having Josh not just be a random party guy.

WITH THAT SAID I will begin rewatching it promptly so this will definitely not be the last magicians post on this blog- at this point should I just make a side blog for this..?

@horsetailcurlers2 and i finally finished the magicians the other day and though i do think the show shouldve ended differently and really should have been different from like s4e12 onward, i think with the current ending it just doesnt make thematic sense for eliot and alice to be where they are

like somehow eliot has tied himself down to brakebills which admittedly the physical cottage is his safe space or whatever but on the whole feels like hes not doing what he should be doing in the grand scheme of his character, (in terms of like tethering himself to a place where he was never actually himself and tethering himself to anywhere in general but i digress) like he should be helping build new fillory!! him and margo and josh and fen should be together and i feel like that was just thrown away for alice's self discovery or whatever (like cmon weve seen what the healers in the magical world can do, youre telling me broken fingers trumps missing fingers in terms of spellcasting??) it would also help on his growth, showing that although fillory kindve sucks and he definitely does not want to run it, it is still his home now and making sure its okay?? well thats been his goal fo a while even without being high king (also him naming margo high king margo the creator would have been way more moving than fen doing it im sorry)

whereas alice herself would have shown major growth if she were to be with the library or at brakebills, showing that she finally understands the importance of not just hoarding knowledge but sharing it (if she were a professor at brakebills) or working towards sharing it (leading the library in a way that further goes with that view shes been working on getting for the past idk four seasons???)

it also would have furthered both of their connections to quentin, with alice working with brakebills and eliot in fillory, which were where both of their connections to him really flourished and grew and how they could stay connected to him despite it all

Yk what just occurred to me

If Dean Fogg really wanted the glamours to be effective, he could’ve made them all live in separate countries or even continents

And made them all speak different languages

Adding both a language and distance barrier.

It would’ve then taken like

Sooooo much longer for them to figure it out

But instead he all made them English speaking people in New York. My theory is that part of him wanted them to work it out. Because maybe possibly he actually cares about his students after knowing them for like 40 lifetimes. But idk.
