November 1987. A retelling of the origin of Dr. Mid-Nite in SECRET ORIGINS #20 adds to the sense that this longtime JSA member may have been a gay man. Narrating these events after the fact, McNider remarks that his nurse and research assistant Myra Mason, a regular supporting character in Dr. Mid-Nite's solo strip in ALL-AMERICAN COMICS) was in love with him (which is apparent in the Golden Age stories), but that it was "a love doomed from the start" for reasons he "could never quite bring [himself] to tell her."
Roy Thomas, who wrote this adaptation, later asserted that he hadn't meant to imply that McNider was gay, but couldn't recall what he had intended, and in context, it's hard to see another way to take it. In Dr. Mid-Nite's origin story (both the original and this retelling), McNider does decide not to tell Myra that the explosion that has nearly blinded him somehow gave him the ability to see in the dark, and he doesn't tell her about his new career as Dr. Mid-Nite. However, the way Thomas frames it strongly suggests that whatever McNider couldn't bring himself to tell her existed before the explosion and his subsequent career as a costumed adventurer.
It was a truism of '40s pop culture that being blind or suffering some other serious permanent disability made someone an unsuitable romantic partner, so it wouldn't have been too surprising for McNider to spurn Myra's affections on those grounds, which was the implication in the Golden Age stories.
Tumblr media
However, that's not the impression the SECRET ORIGINS story gives. Adding to that the fact that McNider spent the rest of his life as another of the JSA's confirmed bachelors, and that prior to his death during ZERO HOUR, his closest relationship was as a mentor to physician Beth Chapel, and it's hard not to come away thinking maybe he was gay.

I think my ideal JSA characterisation is like, mean but in a "take no shit" kinda way. They're Justified Assholes (most of the time, of course they'll lose their temper every now and again). So, I guess pessimistic takes where they can't fucking communicate with each other and seem to resent each other annoy me.

The Legend of Kingdom Come Documentary Celebrates the Legacy of the Classic
youtube
Director Remsi Atassi’s upcoming documentary, The Legend of Kingdom Come, explores the lasting impact of Kingdom Come by Mark Waid and Alex Ross—a story that forever changed the landscape of superhero comics and related media since its release.
Originally published as part of DC’s Elseworlds line, Kingdom Come not only featured powerful interpretations of classic Justice Society of America characters, but also influenced the design and direction of their main-continuity counterparts. Characters like Atom-Smasher, Cyclone, Jakeem Thunder, Judomaster, Lightning, Northwind, Starman, and Tomcat all carry those influences to this day.
The Beat reports that the documentary will make its U.S. premiere at the historic Music Box Theatre in Chicago on Saturday, May 10, 2025. Purchase tickets here. Its international debut follows one week later at the Lake Como Comic Art Festival in Cernobbio, Italy, on May 17, 2025. More info available here. Fans can also visit the film’s official website to pre-order both digital downloads and physical media.
Looking to revisit the source material before the premiere? Dive into the original Kingdom Come miniseries, Waid’s follow-up The Kingdom, Alex Ross and Geoff Johns’s Justice Society of America: Thy Kingdom Come, and Waid’s more recent work in Batman/Superman: World's Finest Vol. 2: Strange Visitor and Vol. 4: Return to Kingdom Come.

The human, mortal-born baby washed ashore in Gotham Harbor was the talk of the town. Yet, when an out-of-town woman arrived in the dead of night and adopted her, the city quickly forgot the child, too caught up in its unraveling seam to wonder if the young girl found a home. Though they did not notice nor question her humanity, it was the first topic breached after she arrived on Mount Olympus.
“Who is the mortal?” Zeus demanded.
“She has no name,” Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, answered. “No family, no birthright. With the permission of the gods, I would like to adopt her, raise her, transform her into the warrior she is destined to be.”
Achilles looked to Zeus and nodded once. Other gods and goddesses followed, leaving their lofty perches to examine the young life nestled in Diana’s arms. She was at home with Diana, calm and content, and even smiled up at her. When Athena held the child, she squirmed and reached for Diana and cried against Hera’s chest.
“Diana has a connection to her,” Hera told Zeus, “one even you would have trouble breaking.”
“You have our blessing, daughter,” Zeus announced. “And for the child, age will bring her closer to her mother.”
Diana returned to Themyscira, growing to love the young child more each day. As she learned to crawl, walk, and talk, she showed early signs of powers like Diana’s. The blessing bestowed upon her by the gods brought her closer to her mother, indeed, and by the time you were old enough to leave Paradise, you’d met more than enough heroes, villains, and vigilantes to know your fate.
Tumblr media
Present Day, Gotham
“What about you, Alkmini?” Flash asks. “Any ideas?”
You shrug, and Black Canary leans over. She whispers, “What about the public approach idea?”
“It’s stupid,” you mumble.
"I said the same about the idea to reform the JSA, but here we are,” Batman points out. “What were you thinking?”
You shift in your seat and look at the table as you say, “What if we just approach them as the JSA rather than trying to find some way to get past the Senate without exposing our identities?”
Batman looks to Superman, who undoubtedly has the most experience hiding his truest identity from humanity.
“Would Diana approve?” Clark asks, smiling at you.
“Why does it matter what Wonder Woman thinks?” Doctor Fate inquires. “Oh, right.”
“She would,” you answer.
“Then, in three weeks’ time, we’ll greet the approaching alien ship as the Justice Society of America, with or without the government’s approval,” Superman announces. “Meeting adjourned.”
“Patrolling tonight?” Bruce asks, seeming to spawn at your side.
“If they’ll let me tag along,” you answer as you prepare to enter the boom tube.
“The day my boys don’t let you patrol with them is the day they’ll need you most.”
Tumblr media
“Alkmini!” Tim cheers as you join them on the roof.
“Drake,” you reply softly.
“You do enjoy reminding us that you know our secret identities,” Jason says, and you’re sure he’s smiling beneath the helmet.
You feel fingers along your belt, and the telltale crack of the Lasso of Truth precedes Dick asking, “ Do you care?”
“Of course not,” Jason answers, kicking his foot to remove your rope from his ankle.
“Why not?”
“I’m going to kill you,” Jason grits out, clearly talking through a clenched jaw.
“Where’s Robin?” you ask as you pull the lasso from Dick and return it to the hook along your waistband.
Jason breathes his thanks as Dick answers that he’s with Batman tonight. You feel more courageous than ever standing with Red Hood, Nightwing, and Red Robin. You’ve grown to love the bats and birds, and you know they care about you, too. Since learning their secret identities, you’ve noticed the long looks they send you, trying to decide if they should know who you are based on what they can see past the small mask your mother had forged for you. Diana’s your mother, biological or not, and your Themysciran family is as important to you as your Gotham family.
Batman flies across the sky before landing on the opposite side of the roof from you. You narrow your eyes and ask, “Did he get taller?”
“Let the criminals think so,” Batman rasps as he enters the light.
Damian is perched on his shoulders, his arms hanging as he blinks sleepily, leaning his head against the top of the cowl. Bruce’s gloved hands are wrapped protectively around Damian’s ankles as he moves carefully.
“Who can take him home?” he asks.
“I can,” you offer.
“Does Wonder Woman know where you are?”
“Of course.”
Bruce nods once, and when he tips toward you, Damian wakes. “Alkmini,” he says. “Your assistance on my Greek mythology essay was most….”
You wait for him to finish, but he slumps heavier against Bruce, asleep, and you take him carefully. Damian is incredibly special to you, and it isn’t the first time you’ve gone out of your way to protect him. You say goodbye to the boys, careful not to look directly at Jason’s red mask because you swear you can feel his intense gaze on you through the red material.
After you leave, Jason mumbles, “ So familiar. I should know by now.”
Tumblr media
“How are the boys?” Diana asks, in her Wonder Woman costume – uniform? You aren’t sure of the correct terminology and are too far into training to ask – as she surveys the city.
“They’re good,” you answer. “Thanks for helping me with the braces. I’d hate to try to stop a real bullet without the practice.”
“Keep spending time in Gotham and you’ll appreciate the training even more.”
You chuckle and prepare to move your arms to deflect projectiles with the armor around your wrists once more.
Tumblr media
Several hours after the conclusion of a rough patrol and a text from Dick, you knock on a locked window. Damian looks up from the couch and smiles before he lets you in. He hugs you tightly before stepping back.
“Where’s Jason?” you inquire, looking around the apartment.
“His room. You can go see him; I believe he’s sulking again. I don’t know if he reread Mr. Darcy’s first proposal or if tonight got to him,” Damian answers.
“Thanks.”
At the end of the short hall, you knock and wait for Jason to invite you in. He’s sitting on the floor, leaning back slightly with his patrol uniform still on, only his helmet and domino mask discarded beside him. You close the door and kneel beside his feet, giving him plenty of room.
“You know what one of my first memories is?” Jason asks, his head tipped back against the wall, his eyes closed. “When I was two or three, a kid washed up in the harbor. I don’t remember specifics, but it was a girl. The story stuck with me. I looked into it last night and read that a woman from out of town adopted her and took her away.”
You watch Jason and shift slightly. That was you, but you had no idea Jason knew about it. He opens his eyes and looks at you, smiling as you lose your fight to maintain eye contact and drop your eyes to his chest.
“Why haven’t you told us – me – who you really are?” he asks.
Your voice is soft, but you know Jason hears when you say, “Growing up, I wasn’t allowed to. And then, after that long, it just felt like… I guess I thought if I told you then it would be like I didn’t trust you before.”
“Do you trust me?” Jason asks.
You notice he didn’t even bother to include the rest of his family this time and pass him the lasso. With the end wrapped around your wrist, you say, “I trust you more than anything or anyone. Except my mom, maybe.”
Jason tilts his head, and his tongue runs over his lips quickly before he says, “I wasn’t aware this made shy people talk easier. I’ll have to remember that.” He tosses it back to you and places his hands on the floor beside him. “I trust you too, without the lasso.”
“Why’d you bring up the little girl from so long ago?” you inquire.
“There was a baby left in an alley tonight. Bruce said he’d look into it, but it just reminded me of that.”
You nod and roll your bottom lip between your teeth.
“You look so familiar,” he mutters. “Especially when you do that.”
Carefully, you move closer to Jason. He extends his arm, and you scoot forward until your hip is against his, facing him as his hand settles on your waist.
“Nineteen years ago, I was adopted by Wonder Woman,” you begin. “But, because of who she is, she couldn’t just take me in, she had to get permission from the gods.”
“The gods? Like Zeus, Athena?” Jason interjects.
You nod and continue, “They gave her permission, and gifted me some of her powers because we were connected and because I was a warrior.” You hold Jason’s intense gaze as you explain, “I was a warrior because I’d survived on my own and washed up in Gotham.”
“You visited with Diana,” Jason realizes. “That’s why you look so familiar! When Bruce first took me in, Diana would come by sometimes, and she always had a little girl with her.”
You smile, and Jason extends his legs out further. He pulls you against him, brushing his fingers along the bottom of your mask. After you nod, he peels it away from your face. It’s like he’s seeing you for the first time and the thousandth time, he thinks as he tugs you into his lap.
“I’m sorry I didn’t tell you sooner,” you whisper.
“I trust you wholly,” Jason admits. “And that scared me. Do you remember playing together once, around Christmas the year after I stole Bruce’s tires?”
“Of course,” you answer as if it’s obvious. Something about having the mask off, being truly seen, makes it easier to admit everything. “How could I forget the Christmas I fell in love?”
Jason smiles and leans up, wrapping his arms around your waist as his nose taps yours.
“Are you decent?” Damian asks at the door. “I have a question regarding Odysseus and the suitors.”
“Is he reading The Odyssey?” you ask Jason.
“Sounds like a question for you,” he responds with a shrug.
“Are you okay? Finding a kid in a position like that can’t be easy.”
“I am. I’ll check on her tomorrow, and tonight hasn’t been all bad.”
“Come on in, Damian,” you call.
Jason scrambles for your mask, but you catch his wrist and shake your head as you stand from his lap. He pushes himself up beside you, and Damian enters with his nose in the book. When he finishes his question and looks up, his eyes widen.
You answer Damian’s question, but he doesn’t seem to hear it before he asks, “What’s your name?”
Jason answers with you, and you smile up at him.
“What’s that look for?” he inquires.
“I’m going to Themyscira for my birthday pretty soon. Do you want to come with me?”
“Will Diana threaten to kill me?”
“Probably.”
“I’ll go,” Damian offers.
“You’re all invited. But I should probably put Dick out of his misery and tell him that I am who he thinks I am.”
“Let’s take this,” Jason suggests, tugging your Lasso of Truth to pull you closer.

Immortal modern Reader tired and resting in bed, after saving Aerea and Balerion and returning them back home from Old Valyria.
Immortal modern Reader: Finally, I can have some rest.
Just as she was about to sleep, the door burst open and the children of Jaehaerys and Alysanne came to her for help.
Yandere Aemon: Y/N, I’m marrying Jocelyn, will you join us in the wedding?☺️
Yandere Baelon: Y/N, I have claimed Vhagar. Come on, I want to show you my new tricks!☺️
Yandere Alyssa: Y/N, I’m going to marry Baelon and I hope you will join us in our wedding.☺️
Yandere Maegelle: Y/N, I’m going to be in Oldtown. I pray you will visit me soon.😌
Yandere Vaegon: Y/N, father wants me to marry Daella, but I don’t want to!😫
Yandere Daella: Y-Y/N! Saera is mean to me and father wants me to marry, but I’m so scared! I don’t want to be a Silent Sister!😭
Yandere Saera: Y/N, father called me a whore! And thinks of me as a disappointment!😤
Yandere Viserra: Y/N, I’m beautiful right? Please, don’t let my parents to marry an old fat lord!🥺
Yandere Gael: Y/N, can you play with me pretty please? I feel lonely.😢
Immortal modern Reader slowly but scarily turns to look at Jaehaerys and Alysanne: can I have some rest… FOR FIVE MINUTES?!🤬😾
Yeah, in my head it was more funny and hilarious. I mean, everyone thinks Immortal modern Reader is a legend, so obviously the children would want to spend time with her… even though she wants to rest from everything that happened.
I can’t help but imagine Immortal modern Reader sitting like this 🗿while Yandere Rhaena and Aerea scolded J&A and their children for disturbing Y/N from regaining her rest and sleep.
Aerea vs JsA

When the reader has time for sleep and rest.
Reader
Tumblr media
Hello dear. Thank you for this scenario. I had fun reading it. I think they see the reader as a hero and a port to take shelter in during the storm. Moreover, they demand the parental love that they cannot get from their parents from the reader. Poor reader. She has no time to rest. I think JsA will scold her more than the children. After all, they are the parents who have so many children and do not care about them. Aerea is literally the reader's guardian cat.

May I ask a possibly stupid question? How is Sanderson Hawkins still so young? I was doing reaserch for my paper on The Sandman and the timeline was really distracting for me, since Sanderson is a relative of his. He should be a lot older than he is, shouldn't he? There was a period of time wherein he seemed to fall off the face of the Earth, so maybe time travel was involved?
Please, let me know if you have the answer to this!
Ok so, you're not wrong in that Sanderson "Sandy" Hawkins is much older than he looks.
Tumblr media
(A portrait of Sandy the Golden Boy drawn by famous pop artist Jack Kirby) Sanderson Hawkins isn't actually related to the original Sandman, Wesley Dodds by blood. He was the nephew of Dodds' lifelong companion, famous crime novelist Dian Belmont. (Who is famous enough on her own that some people freak out when I tell them that little factoid). Despite Dodds and Belmont having a lifelong romantic partnership and cohabitating for most of their adult lives, the two never married.
"Sandy" discovered Dodds' identity when he stowed away in the older man's attic after being taken to visit by Dian, seeing Dodds being approached by the Justice Society to confer on a case. Thus discovering Dodds' identity, Sandy became his partner in crime fighting, Hawkins' sunny disposition inspiring the Sandman's costume change to be more of an inviting and trusted public figure.
Sandy served with distinction as an associate member of the Justice Society and a member of the Young All-Stars where he served as pseudo leader due to his higher experience as a kid superhero.
Sanderson was 13 when he and Dodds originally met in the latter days of 1941. Meaning he was born in December of 1928.
Which would make THIS man 96.
Tumblr media
(Former official portrait of Hawkins in his persona as "Sand")
Maintain professional detachment, maintain professional detachment, MAINTAIN PROFESSIONAL-!
*ahem* Anyway.
Like you said, the trick is in the time very soon before the forced disbandment of the JSA that Sandy the Golden Boy seemed to vanish from the face of the Earth.
Caught in the blast of an experimental silicide gun and bombarded with radioactive particulates, Hawkins was mutated into a hulking sand monster with a violent temper. Kept in containment for decades while Dodds attempted to find a cure he was accidentally released very soon after the JSA was pulled back into the public eye around the foundation of the Justice League.
Rescued by the combined efforts of both teams he was returned to a humanoid form, but in reality his skin, his muscles, his very cells had been replaced by living sand that he now had the ability to manipulate at will.
Hawkins faded again from the public eye, trying to wrap his mind around both his new state of body AND the decades he had lost in a haze of rage and pain.
It wasn't until Dodds' death that Hawkins was called back to where he had always belonged. Originally going by the name Sand in his heroic persona until being contacted by Dodds via the prophetic dreams that animated Dodds' own heroic career, Hawkins finally donned the heroic persona that was his inheritance.
Tumblr media
(Hawkins' current official portrait)
And the Sandman was reborn.
Since then Hawkins has been a publically active member of the Justice Society's line up and has worked tirelessly to maintain the legacy of his beloved "Uncle Wes". The most famous outgrowth of which being when he opened his Uncle's estate to historians Matt Wagner and Steven Seagle, even giving them access to Dodds' dream journals stretching back before his debut in 1939.
I respect the hell out of Sandy Hawkins. He lost decades of his young life to an accident, work up to a world not of his making in a body that was not his own, lost the two people he cared the most about within months of one another and then, when called, stood in the shape of his mentor and carried his steps into the future.
His existence is the reminder of a dream. That those who seek to do harm shall never haunt the innocent and the righteous in the darkness.
That all evildoers shall behold the same nightmare at the calling of the Sandman.

ALL-STAR COMICS (vol. 1) #25 (Summer, 1945). Cover by Joe Gallagher, with Flash and Green Lantern figures by Martin Naydel.
This was the issue of All-Star Comics that Flash and Green Lantern returned to full-time membership in the Justice Society, after being honorary members for a few years. That was because the JSA's by-laws stated that any member with their own, self-named comic could only be honorary members.
Which is why Superman and Batman were never full-time members back in the day, at least during the Golden Age. The rule never seemed to apply to Wonder Woman, even though she had her own book as well, because she was initially not a full member, just the recording secretary.
The REAL reason Flash and Green Lantern were brought back, however, was to replace the Spectre and Starman, who were originally written into the story.
This is because DC Comics (actual name Detective Comics) and All-American Publications, both of which had contributed characters to All-Star Comics (making it the first, true intracompany crossover), were currently not working together. That meant that no DC heroes were to appear as members of the JSA.
If you look at the above cover you'll notice that there is no "A Superman - DC Comic" logo, which most All-American Publications' books had displayed. It's been replaced with the new "An All-American Publication" logo.
So the Spectre and Starman, both DC superheroes, were out (the script was written before the companies broke up). They were re-drawn in the story as Flash and Green Lantern, and that explains Martin Naydel had to draw them onto Joe Gallagher's original cover.
The split between DC and All-American lasted through 1945. By 1946 All-American was bought out by DC, and the two companies were merged into National Comics.

Athelind Long's Superhero Chronology
Cross-Published from my Blogspot blog, Kirby Dots & Ditko Ribbons. INTRODUCTION  There's a tendency to divide the different eras of comic book superheroes into "Golden," "Silver", and "Modern," with occasional, tentative attempts to parcel off the Bronze Age, as well.
Let's just say that this lacks nuance. The Superhero Genre has gone through a lot of trends and phases and distinctive cultures over the years, and lumping almost half of its history into some concept of "The Modern Age" is just phoning it in.
Some notes:
This is not quite the same as the ages of COMICS, though there's similar nomenclature, largely because comics history tends to focus on the superhero genre even when it tries not to. This is about SUPERHEROES, in more than just a single medium; the "Ages" only indirectly impact other genres.
All dates are approximate.
There's plenty of overlap between Silver/Bronze, Bronze/Iron, and Iron/Aluminum, but when I started looking a keystone events, I was astonished by how neatly everything fell into 15-year chunks!
THE CHRONOLOGY
Prelude (1830s-1938): The dawn of mass-produced popular culture: penny dreadfuls, dime novels, pulp magazines, newspaper comic strips. Folk heroes and detectives start sharing the pages with costumed adventurers, some with peak-human or superhuman abilities. Professor Challenger, Sherlock Holmes, The Nyctalope, The Shadow, Doc Savage.
Golden Age (1938-1953): Begins with Superman, of course; ends with Post-War Superhero Implosion and Frederic Wertham's anti-comics crusade. The JSA stopped appearing in All-Star Comics in 1951. Fawcett stopped publishing Captain Marvel in 1953.
Interregnum (1950ish-1960ish): A lot of historians make much of the gap between the Golden and Silver Ages, but, in retrospect, it's surprisingly brief. Superheroes never really go away, but they are de-emphasized in favor of other genres in comics, including horror, romance, and science fiction. Even at DC, other than Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman, superheroes are relegated to back-up stories in anthology titles. Still, The Adventures of Superman with George Reeves remained popular throughout this period.
Silver Age (1954-1970): The Reign of the Comics Code Authority (est. 1954). Really starts to roll with the demise of EC Comics and the reboot of The Flash; peaks with the "camp" craze popularized by the 1966 Batman TV series; ends when Kirby Moves to DC and Marvel publishes the Spider-Man Drug Stories without the Code Stamp. Early on, formerly-anonymous creators start getting openly credited on the title pages of their stories; this starts at Marvel, but DC eventually follows suit.
Bronze Age (1971-1985): Begins with O'Neil and Adams revamping Batman and Green Lantern; Ends with the Crisis on Infinite Earths. Both DC and Marvel start paying closer attention to continuity and "relevance", and the most successful titles are the ones that most fully embrace an ongoing serial storyline (Legion of Super-Heroes, X-Men, The New Teen Titans). The specialty comic book shop starts becoming more common at the beginning of the era, and the closing years of the era herald a growing Creator's Rights movement, the birth of the Direct Market -- and the dawn of the independent publishers.
Iron Age (1986-2000): Begins with Deconstruction: Elementals, The Dark Knight Returns, Watchmen, and the Wild Cards "mosaic novel" series. Ends with Reconstruction: Morrison's JLA, among others. Dominated by a determined effort to Take Superhero Comics Seriously. The Big Two kill off or "reinvent" goofy, campy Silver Age characters. DC tries very hard to bring coherency and consistency to its new, Post-Crisis timeline. Several independent publishers try cold-starting superhero "universes" of their own; most of them fail, but a lucky few manage to sell their characters to the Big Two (Ultraverse, Wildstorm).
Aluminum Age (2000-2015): When Everything is Recycled. Marvel starts the Ultimate Universe. DC resurrects Silver Age characters who got killed off in the Bronze and Iron Age. The Comics Code finally dies in 2011. DC does a succession of "sequels" to Crisis on Infinite Earths: Identity Crisis (2004), Infinite Crisis (2005-2006), and the deceptively-named Final Crisis (2008), culminating in another Hard Reboot with the New 52 in 2011. Marvel does its own version of Crisis with the Multiverse Incursion story arc in New Avengers from 2013-2015. "Decompression" and "writing for the trade" become common as trade-paperback collections become more economically important than the traditional monthly comic magazines ("floppies").
Digital Age (2015-Current): Superhero not only become mainstream, but actually dominate movies and TV for several years -- this starts in the Aluminum Age, with the MCU in 2008, but is solidly codified by the debut of Arrow in 2015 and an explosion of weekly prime-time superhero shows that lasts almost a decade.
Comments are welcome, but be civil! This is intended to provoke conversations, not fights.

I know it's very soon after my last post, but I think I've mostly got a working timeline
There are more specifics I could get into, but I tried to limit the info in this particular timeline to what's super important and identifiable. Like, I have a whole other post I could make about the Justice Society of America and how it led to the creation of the Justice League, or how Amity Park was founded and by whom, but trying to put it all here would be too cumbersome.
My main sources for general info is whatever I can find on the DC Fandom Wiki, as well as my experiences watching various DCAU media growing up and my favorite Batman show, The Batman from 2004 (good god, I didn't realize it was that old). I tried to fit Young Justice in here too, but it actually conflicts with the first two timelines more than I thought it would, so I might just use it for story ideas for after Danny gets adopted. The Wayne Family Adventures webtoon mostly just supplied the template for how I want them to end up by the time Danny enters the picture, leaving the "how did we get here" up to me, which this timeline hopes to solve.
Also, I couldn't find a good source for it, but supposedly Danny Phantom might have taken place in 2014? Which would've been the future for when it came out in 2004. I considered going with that, but ultimately I decided that DP happens in 2004, taking Danny about a year to establish himself before he gets adopted by 2005.
A big part of why I made this timeline in the first place was to make sure I know how old everyone is when things happen, which is why I put their ages everywhere.
1920s - Martha Clark and Jonathan Kent are born sometime in this decade.
1939 - Alfred Pennyworth is born.
1940 - James “Jim” Corrigan (30) “died” and became the Spectre with Aztar, the Vengeance of God. The Justice Society of America is formed, though they are sometimes called the All-Star Squadron when working with those not formally inducted as members of the JSA (including those with and without superpowers).
1952 - The Kents (~30s) are told they cannot have children biologically. Shortly thereafter, they find the Kryptonian baby Kal-El, rename him Clark Kent after Martha’s maiden name, and adopt him as their own son.
1957 - Alfred (18) joins the British military.
1960 - Bruce Wayne is born. Vlad Masters is born.
1961 - Jack Fenton is born. (Google says his birthday is October 2, 1971, but that would make him like 10 when the Ghost Portal Prototype fails, so I’m just gonna set it back an extra decade lol)
1963 - Madeline Elliot is born. (Google says her birthday is March 16, 1973, so same deal as Jack)
1964 - After many misadventures in England, Alfred (25) takes over as the Wayne Family’s butler from his late father. (Bruce 4)
1968 - 8 year old Bruce’s parents are killed. (Alfred 29)
1970 - After 2 years of flailing, Bruce (10) decides to travel the world and learn martial arts, among other things.
1971 - Barbra Gordon is born.
1974 - Dick Greyson is born.
1977 - Jason Todd is born. Superman (25) debuts in Metropolis, inspiring Bruce (17) to change his plans to become a superhero rather than a crime boss. Obviously there were other superheroes around at this time, but none gripped Bruce like Superman did. He will never, ever admit this.
1978 - Superman (26) is quickly inducted into the Justice Society of America.
1980 - Stephanie Brown is born. Cassandra Cain is born. Bruce (20) returns to Gotham and starts his career as Batman. He begins cutting through red tape to regain control of Wayne Enterprises. Meanwhile, Vlad (20), Jack (19), and Maddie (17) are all at the University of Wisconsin and build the prototype Ghost Portal, which fails catastrophically, causing several important chain reactions; Vlad is blasted with Lazarus Water, the Ghost Zone comes into existence, Vlad falls ill, Amity Park’s Lazarus Pit dries up, Pariah enters the Ghost Zone and declares himself Ghost King, etc.
1981 - Tim Drake is born. Disenchanted with the JSA, Superman (29) starts figuring out how to create his own, international superhero team.
1982 - Bruce (22) adopts Dick Greyson (8) after his parents die publicly.
1983 - Vlad (23) discovers he has “ghost powers” and starts figuring out how to use them. Dick (9) discovers Bruce’s (23) secret and Bruce begins training him.
1984 - Bruce (24) finally lets Dick (10) join him on the streets as Robin. Batman and Superman (32) meet for the first time (which plays out similar to how they meet in “The Batman”).
1985 - Bruce takes over Wayne Enterprises just in time for his 25th birthday. With the company secured, Bruce no longer has to prove himself as responsible and plays up his image as a playboy philanthropist to throw off rumors that ditzy but well-meaning Brucie Wayne couldn’t possibly be the dark and brooding Batman.
1986 - Superman (34) approaches Bruce (26) with his plan for the Justice League, hoping Wayne Enterprise would agree to be the “secret” benefactor. Bruce says he’ll think about it. Barbra Gordon (15) takes the name Batgirl for the first time. (Alfred 47, Bruce 26, Dick 12)
1988 - Jasmine Fenton is born. Cass (8) kills someone for the first time, is horrified, and runs away from her assassin father.
1989 - Duke Thomas is born.
1990 - Daniel Fenton is born.
1991 - Jason Todd (14) tries to steal the Batmobile’s tires after his father is sentenced to prison time, putting him on Batman’s radar. (Alfred 52, Bruce 31, Dick 17, Barbra 20)
1992 - Dick (18) decides to strike out on his own as Nightwing. Jason Todd (15) catches the eye of Talia Al Ghul. Shortly after, Jason’s (step-)mom dies of a drug overdose while his father is still in prison so Bruce adopts him, making Jason the second Robin.
1993 - With Nightwing (19) established and able to take over many of Batman’s (33) responsibilities in Gotham, Bruce asks Clark Kent (41) if he’s still interested in his Justice League idea, which he’s now had 7 more years to refine. Global threats had become more common (which threatened Gotham vicariously and he wasn’t confidant he could take them on by himself) and the JSA had become too entangled with the USA government for anyone’s liking. Now was prime pickings for upcoming talent that had grown up with the idea of superheroes as a necessary force in the world that could see the limitations of government funded (and therefore government controlled) superhero teams.
1994 - Stephanie Brown (14) became Spoiler to “spoil” her father’s criminal career as Cluemaster. After his capture and imprisonment, Bruce (34) “convinced” Spoiler to “retire”, though Barbra (23) kept in contact, as did Dick (21) and Jason (17) to a lesser extent. Steph continued to train on her own, planning to rejoin the hero scene when she was a bit older. The Justice League debuts, led by Superman, Wonder Woman, and Batman, along with half a dozen other members, though their ranks would quickly expand.
1995 - Jason dies at 18, after being Robin for 3 years. Talia Al Ghul seduces the grieving Bruce (35) to get Jason’s body, accidentally-on-purpose getting pregnant along the way. Jason had unfortunately been dead for a few months by then; however, he was too angry and stubborn for his spirit to move on, despite the lack of magic/ecto to turn him into a ghost, so it clung to his body as the only tether to the living plane, which allowed him to be revived via Lazarus Pit. He still came back pretty zombified, though, so Talia used magic to help restore the connection between his spirit and his body, and had him train with the League of Assassins to keep him sharp. Part of Bruce’s grief spiral was to throw himself into Justice League work. (Alfred 56, Dick 21, Barbra 24)
1996 - Bruce (36) is spiraling from his loss when Tim Drake (15) basically forces himself onto Batman as the third Robin.
1997 - Cassandra Cain (17) arrives in Gotham, trying to keep a low profile but couldn’t help but save Commissioner Gordon from her assassin father, putting her on Batman’s (37) radar. After Barbra (26) is paralyzed and forced to retire as Batgirl, she asked Bruce to offer Cass the title in her stead, taking on the role of “man in the chair” with the name Oracle. Barbra also pressures pretty much everyone to train with Steph (17), since she can’t anymore.
1998 - Jason (21) returns to Gotham as the Red Hood. (Alfred 59, Bruce 38, Dick 24, Barbra 27, Tim 17, Cass 18)
1999 - Cass (19) takes on the name Black Bat, giving the title Batgirl to Steph (19) as she (re)makes her superhero debut.
2000 - Settling into more of an anti-hero role after getting rid of (most of) his hatred for Bruce for not avenging him, Jason (23) has turned his sights on Crime Alley, doing whatever he feels is necessary to make it safer for the families (but especially the kids) that are forced to live there. He unknowingly is fulfilling Bruce’s original plan of becoming a crime boss and dissecting Gotham’s crime problem from the inside out. (Alfred 61, Bruce 40, Dick 26, Barbra 29, Tim 19, Cass 20, Steph 20)
2001 - I’m going to modify his story, but Duke Thomas (12) ends up on Bruce’s radar.
2004 - Danny Fenton (14) has an accident that gives him “ghost powers”. (Vlad 44, Jack 43, Maddie 41, Jazz 16)
2005 - Damian Wayne (10) becomes the fourth Robin, pushing Tim (24) to move out and become Red Robin instead. (Alfred 66, Bruce 45, Dick 31, Barbra 34, Cass 25, Jason 28, Steph 25, Duke 16, Danny 15, Jazz 17)
-
Damian’s first, big, world-ending crisis is barely a month or two after his arrival, when Cris Allen enlists the Batclan to help him fight Pariah Dark and they join Danny Phantom’s resistance.
I haven’t quite decided what will happen next but Batman figures out Danny isn’t fully dead like the rest of the inhabitants of the Ghost Zone and looks into it after Pariah is defeated. From here, I want it to take less than a year for Danny to be in Bruce’s custody. Duke (at 16) is recruited around the same time as Danny (still 15), so both of them begin training together. I’m sure Bruce wouldn’t mind pulling some strings to get Jazz (17) into a college in Gotham, potentially getting her to study under Barbra/Oracle.
