Are there any dormant Sega series or even one-off games you'd like to see revived or revisited in some fashion?
The obvious ones I think are like, Jet Set Radio and Crazy Taxi. I understand Crazy Taxi is kind of a hard game to spec, because those shorter arcade experiences are more for phones these days, but I also just keep thinking about like, a modern Crazy Taxi that controls like Burnout.
At the minimum it feels like we're due for a "Crazy Taxi Collection" that gives all the cities from 1, 2, and 3. But I also feel like that's the kind of game where you could just keep adding a new city every few years.
Similarly, we are long, long, long over due for some kind of re-release of Jet Set Radio Future. I want to say Sega might have planned for something like this, too, because it seems like they are very specifically holding off on making JSRF available on the Xbox SX backwards compatibility, even though it was supported and functional on 360. You would think that's because they intend on putting out a new version cross-platform. That's what Capcom does.
As for less obvious games... it's always bothered me that Burning Rangers has been ignored. I mean, there's a lot of the Saturn library that has, but Burning Rangers especially. But also Astal, Clockwork Knight, Legend of Oasis, Shining Force 3, Fighters Megamix, etc. That being said, a fan is going out of their way to create a loving tribute/demo/remaster of Burning Rangers, and it seems very promising.
youtube
Similarly, it bothers me that we've never had a good, comprehensive home port of Daytona USA. The last version we got was on Xbox Live Arcade, and it's a very faithful port, but it's just the original arcade version only. Which means three courses. Unless you're a Daytona USA superfan, there's about ten minutes worth of content there.
Daytona USA C.C.E. for the Saturn had almost twice that many courses, and if you start talking about Daytona USA 2001 on the Dreamcast, you get something like 8 or 9 courses total. The problem is, the controls in Daytona USA 2001 are notoriously awful. I'd love a version that stays true to the original Daytona while also expanding the content based on what has been added to later versions of the game.
Similar things bug me about the Sega Ages version of Virtua Racing for the Switch, which is completely missing all of the bonus content developed for Virtua Racing Deluxe on the 32X, and Virtua Racing FlatOut for the Playstation 2.
Skimming down the list... oh! Huh! Sega apparently owns Otogi? I've been half-joking, half-seriously saying for a few years now that they should remaster and re-release those games. They were weird, interesting curiosities that I remember my friends going wild for. I didn't have an Xbox, so I never got a chance to play them. No joke, I think Sega should look in to that. It's a strange chapter in From Software's development history that more people need to be exposed to.

Just for fun (and to make these easier to find) I have made a compilation of JSRF quotes!
I did find the quotes from this video by RisingSonic17 on YouTube. I do suggest watching it as it gives more context to the lines:
youtube
Keep in mind that some interactions may be missing, as I have never played JSRF and may be unaware of some interactions. Characters and their quotes appear in chronological order according to the video.
Corn:
"This is the GG's Garage. Hey, where's our pizza? Huh? You're not the pizza guy? Oh, you're here to join the GG's, eh? Heh... Tell you what. Find Gum. She's the one you wanna talk to. Just get close to her and pull the 'Right Trigger'. Got it?"
"Why don't you talk to her now?"
"Now, just 'cause you're new don't mean you can act like a big baby. The police are tightening up here, especially since the Rokkaku took over the police force. I know we look crazy 'n all, but even we know to pick our fights. So don't mess things up for the rest of us, got it?"
"Roboy's training changes as your skill level changes, so be on the lookout."
"I had a feeling Poison Jam would have their hideout in the sewers beneath Rokkaku-dai Heights. This is it... looks like the time to throw down has finally come."
"Man, those Poison Jam freaks are out of control. I say we start on Chuo Street and cover everything to Rokkaku-dai Heights and 99th Street in our graffiti. Chuo Street is probably the best place to start."
"Roboy told you, right? If you find a Mystery Tape, you gotta check the GG-notebook. It'll tell you where to find the Graffiti Souls in the area."
"Where the hell is Yoyo? Maybe he freaked out and skipped town? I'm sure he's alright. But we gotta take care of those Immortals. They've been walkin' around like they own the place. We gotta go and cover up all their graffiti."
"I'll send those Immortals back to the grave as many times as I need to!"
"We'll stop those Noise Tanks!"
Gum:
"Poison Jam knows something about Yoyo. I know they do."
"Damn! Punk, I'll get you for that!"
"The fortified residential zone... that's deep in the ghetto. And it could be the fake one again..."
"Here they come. The crazies from the Golden Rhinos. Concentrate, and watch your back. These guys ain't no joke."
"We gotta protect the streets. That's not a choice. We can't let these fools just waltz in and take over."
"The real enemy is your own fear. Remember that."
"So you're the cat that wants to join us, huh? I don't know where you're from, but the streets are tough. Real tough. Let's see what you're made of. We'll start you off nice and slow. Let's see how much air you can grab. Press the "A Button" to jump."
"Dogenzaka Hill is GG territory. I heard there's some headphone wearin' freak creepin' up here. If I could just find him, I'd show him what's up...."
"You can do it, can't you?"
"There are a couple of places in Shibuya Terminal where you can get on the roof of some buildings. You can get there by jumping from a Grind. You should check it out. Who knows what you'll find up there? When you're looking for something, the best place to start is the Map. You can see it by pressing the START button."
"The area of 99th Street is built around a tower that has a bunch of places to Grind. Definitely check that place out. There are also telephone poles to Grind and billboards to Wallride... the most important thing is to just try everything out. Oh, and don't forget to check the map by pressing the START button. That should give you some helpful hints"
"We actually found Roboy in a dumpster. Corn fixed him up real nice."
"I've been lost in the severs before. Its kinda crazy in there, but as long as you keep moving up, you'll be ok."
"Yoyo just can't chill and stay out, can he? He'll be back soon, I'm sure. I heard the Immortals hang out in the skyscraper district or something..."
"Actually, they say Roboy is actually a Noise Tank prototype. Don't tell him that though, ok? We don't wanna make him cry or nothin'. In any case, we're gonna get those damn Noise Tanks."
Yoyo:
"Those tracks should connect Sky Dinosaurian Square to the edge of the skyscraper district..."
"I hear that Poison Jam's woman leader has been showin' her face in town."
"Man, the Rhinos gotta be pissed off!"
"Shibuya Terminal is in a state of panic. I really wanna stay out of this, but we gotta go over there and take care of business."
"Don't use your eyes. Just try to feel it, ya know?"
"Graffiti has the power to wake up the energy that's asleep in the streets of Tokyo. The Rokkaku Group... the police... they don't know what's up. So let's just cover this whole place in art, yo."
"Yo, you know that dude Hayashi from the Rokkaku police force? That guy is one messed up dude. He's a complete psycho. Watch out for him."
"I heard through the grapevine that some weird-lookin' girl's been hangin' out at Rokkaku-dai Heights."
"So you think Poison Jam is after us?"
"We gotta get the Doganzaka Hill goddess statue that Poison Jam took. We better hurry, or things are gonna get real ugly."
Beat:
"Anything go down while I was gone?"
"I've always thought that thing in Shibuya Terminal was nasty lookin' anyway! Let's do a little redecoration."
"Sometimes, you just gotta get moving or else nothin's gonna get done, yo.
"Hey, I've heard of you. You're one of the GG's, huh? Tell you what... I'll race you. If I can beat you in a race around Doganzaka Hill, then this place belongs to me. Got it?"
"Hope you won't regret that."
"Shibuya Terminal? Now that you mention it, there was this huge guy wandering around there... And fishy graffiti? That sounds familiar, but I didn't really look close enough to see if the graffiti that the fool was paintin' actually looked like a fish or nothin'."
"Hey. Is it true Poison Jam used to cause trouble in Chuo Street under a different name?"
"Rapid 99 of 99th Street. They don't show their faces in public very often. Some say Rapid 99 and Poison Jam are sworn enemies because something big went down a while back. I don't know the details, though. A friend of mine told me that the girls in Rapid 99 are real lookers. I just think he was too scared of 'em to say otherwise. In any case, it ain't gonna be easy to find 'em."
"You meet Rapid 99 yet?"
"Noise Tanks? Never heard of 'em. But we gotta find Yoyo. I'll go through the sewers and check out Kiboganoka Hill."
"Those Immortals really get on my nerves..."
"Crazy stuff is going down all over town! Looks like it's time for a little clean up... GG's style!"
Combo:
"Time to get serious."
"This kid's kinda funny."
"This time we should be able to tell if it's the real one or the fake Yoyo just by talkin' to him, right?"
"That crazy guy?! What're you talkin' about? He looks nothing like me. Besides, we don't got time to deal with that fool. Remember? The Golden Rhinos??"
"Well, they told us to come. Don't look like we got any choice."
"There are some things that you can only feel when you're out in the streets, you know?"
"What's this?! Who's been sprayin' these ugly tags on my turf?! Hmph. I'm guessin' it was you... Its on! If you loose, you're gonna be answerin' to me from now on, punk!"
"You think you can do this too? Let's see it!"
"Man, you're not all that. Here, I'll show you one more time."
"The deep end of the sewers is closed off because it's contaminated. At least, that's what I heard..."
"Hey, why you gotta go out and get a dog?! There's only one thing I hate more than dogs, and that's goldfish."
"I heard Rapid 99 used to run under a leader named Cube..."
"Thing that ticks me off most is, the Immortals ain't worth all this talk and trouble. I wonder if they got somethin' to do with Yoyo's disappearance?"
"There's a bunch of real big guys with real big attitudes causin' a big scene over on Highway Zero. Maybe they might know something about the Noise Tanks. Man, where the hell is Yoyo?!"
Rynth:
"What is UP with Yoyo, anyway?!"
"Hey, Graffiti Souls are a big commodity, right?"
"I don't care if it's a golden rhino or a blue hippo, I'll send 'em right back to the zoo where they belong."
"What's their master plan? I mean, the Golden Rhinos don't seem like their just out here to run the streets, you know what I'm sayin'?" (This quote was spelled like this in game. From my knowledge it should be "they're just out here...")
"Here comes Gouji. Let's end this."
"Did you get all the Graffiti Souls? We still got a full laundry list of things to take care of, you know."
"Hehehe... So this is your hideout."
"Poison Jam are... kinda cute!"
"Is it just me, or does Captain Hayashi not look like he eats his breakfast?"
Poison Jam:
"I don't think Yoyo's that kind of a person."
"I think hes hiding something."
"This feels like a trap. Be careful."
"Someone's after DJ-K?! You sure about that?!"
"Gouji Rokkaku is kinda interesting. But, I think he went a little too far this time..."
"I love everything about Tokyo... even the things I hate."
"Hur hur hur. You want to get rid of us, don't you? Nothing in life is free. You gotta work for it. Beat us in this race and we won't mess with you anymore."
"Har har har!! I told ya'll you were a bunch of wussies!"
Rapid 99:
"ghahah! Next thing you know, you will be all crying like a baby."
"If you can win a flag battle against us, I'll tell you where Poison Jam' s hideout is."
"Suit yourself."
Garam:
"I won't hold back."
"Hey. Keep it real."
"There's this lightning-quick girl over at Kiboganoka Hill. Dunno if she's still there. But man, I gotta say, I'm really trippin' out over Yoyo missin' and all."
"When it comes down to it, the Immortals are just dried up mummies, man. I bet they all nasty under those bandages."
Boogie:
"The Noise Tanks might look strong, but they're like cheap action figures! Just run into them and they fall apart! Oh yeah, that girl from the stadium... I heard she's been lookin' for us. You seen her yet?"
"Aww man..."
"The fortified residential zone... it's directly attached to the underground sewers. Man. I don't like that place at all."
"Is that dude in black even human? My heart's pounding... I don't know why."
"You're never as good as you can be! Don't slack off!"
"Y'all are crazy!"
Jazz:
"This doesn't look good."
"Alright. Stay cool."
"Yeah.... we were a little too laid back this time, I think."
"The fortified residential zone... hey, why don't we pick numbers to decide who goes?"
"It's about time the Rhinos brought things up a notch. We better be ready to get real serious too."
"What the hell IS that big thing, anyway? But, you better watch out for that fool in black..."
"If you get a "Jet" in the Trials, you can even use people who aren't here to take out into the streets."
"You're one of the GG's, right? Then tell this fool that they got the wrong girl! They think I'm one of you guys! So, they dragged me out here and looked what's happened to me!!"
"Hurry up! Tell him that I'm not a GG!!"
Noise Tanks:
"Hey, you're that GG that helped me out! Thanks for that man. Say... there's something that I've been wondering since then. You wanna find out who's the fastest? I KNOW I can beat you. Let's give it a shot!"
"Alright. Fine. See ya."
"I'll get 'em good no matter what!"
"The more worked up we get about this, the harder it'll be to find what we're lookin' for."
"There's somethin' not right about the way the Golden Rhino's are actin'."
"Why are those Golden Rhinos going after the Radio station? Well, make sure to be on the lookout for Captain Psychopath."
"We gotta save DJ-K! I can't stand listening to this music anymore!"
"If this town could talk, what poetry it would speak..."
"Ready?"
"Practice all you want, it will not make a difference."
"It is not over yet. Prepare yourselves."
"Heh... Go on. Fight!"
"Are you ready?"
Special interactions:
"Sometimes it just doesn't matter how much you practice."
Slate:
"Dude. I'm bored. Entertain me."
"Hmph. What a bore."
"My sources tell me that the Noise Tanks and the Rokkaku Group are in this together. Be careful."
"So is that Clutch guy in with Rokkaku too? Or is he just a little punk?"
"I'm about ready."
"The Golden Rhinos are really startin' to get on my nerves..."
"I got better things to do than play house with Gouji Rokkaku, but man, that big ugly thing has GOT to go."
"Graffiti Souls' sole purpose is to be sought out."
Clutch:
"You're looking for that kid, Yoyo, right? Tell ya what, if you go out and get some Graffiti Soul points... Hey! Wait a sec, you've already got quite a few. Lemme see those... Sucka! Thanks for the Graffiti Souls! See ya around!"
"Hah, hah! I look forward to it!"
"I dunno, but I just don't get what's going on here. Heh..."
"This Gouji Rokkaku dude is pretty funny!"
"Haaaahaha! Tokyo ain't half bad!"
Cube:
"If you can beat me at my own game, I'll leave you alone."
"Suit yourself."
"The fortified residential zone... Unless you're absolutely sure of your skills, you should stay away from that place."
"I've dealt with the Golden Rhinos once before. If you don't take them seriously, you're as good as dead."
"I can't stand even looking at that thing. Its just so... so... damn ugly!"
"Yeah. You just have to try everything with an open mind."
Beat to Corn:
"So you're the leader of the GG's? Heh... How's this sound? If I beat you in a race around Doganzaka Hill, you and your buddies have to answer to me from now on. If you beat me... well, we'll just see when it happens."
"Huuuh? You're so boooring..."
Talking to Beat in the garage before fighting the police:
"Anyway, I'm ready to rock. But what's up with that pooch, eh? Where did ya pick him up? You sure that's not the leader in disguise? Heh heh. Its only a matter of time before I become the leader of the GG's anyway."
Combo to Gum:
"What's this?! Who's been sprayin' these ugly tags on my turf?! Hmph. Was it you, princess? You've been a bad, bad girl. You've better hit me with everything you've got, 'cause I ain't gonna hold back just because you're a girl!!"
"The cue tone get you all jumpy?"
"You liked that, eh? I'll do it again for you."
Yoyo to Rynth:
"You're... like... you know... yo."
"Where'd you come from?"
Gum to Rynth:
Rynth to Beat:
"Cool. Welcome aboard."
"You kinda... smell weird."
Garam to Boogie:
"Hey. I'm next in command around here, little lady. The name's Garam,"
Combo to Boogie:
"This group is growing bigger every day. Fool just dig me, I guess."
Gum to Boogie:
"So you're the one from Kiboganoka Hill, huh? Well, this is the GG's. What you see is what you get. Just be yourself, you'll be cool."
Garam to Jazz:
"Well, um... I... uh... be cool."
"That freak who's been making all those weird tags... you think he's connected with the Golden Rhinos somehow?"
Boogie to Garam:
"Alright. Stay cool."
Jazz to Garam:
"I feel ya, but I think you should try to chill a bit. Keep it together."
Corn to Clutch:
"What a fool. But the fortified residential zone... that's deep in the ghetto. And it could be the fake one again..."
Jazz to Clutch:
"Don't push your luck."
Beat to Clutch:
"You just wanted some attention from us, right? Aww..."
Combo to Clutch:
"Man, you're such a jerk I almost like you."
Garam to Clutch:
"One of these days, I'll get you one-on-one! Just you and me, fool!"
Boogie to Clutch:
"Fine. I'll let you off just this once."
Slate to Clutch:
"Heh... Stay outta trouble."
Corn to Yoyo:
"Long time no see, bro."
Clutch to Yoyo:
"So you're that Yoyo guy, huh? Heh..."
Jazz to Yoyo:
"So, you're the real deal, huh? 'Sup. I'm Jazz."
Combo to Yoyo:
"You gonna go and try to get back into shape, huh?'
Garam to Yoyo:
"Heh... I caused enough havoc for the both of us while you were gone, bro."
Rynth to Yoyo:
"The most unbelievable stuff was happening while you were gone! Hehehe..."
Yoyo to Slate:
"Hey, sorry about all that, yo. My bad. But thanks to those fools, I'm all out of shape now. Maybe I'll go out and cause a little havoc to warm up, yo."
Yoyo to Jazz:
"Man, things have sure gotten busier sice I was last here?"
Gum to Beat:
"That fool dressed in black who's been hanging around Chuo Street... now that I think about it, you guys kinda look alike."
Clutch to Beat:
"In times like this, you won't fall as long as you look where you're going. Heh heh."
Garam to Beat:
"Hey, you know that guy everyone's been saying looks like you? Well, is it you?"
There is some cutscene dialogue missing from these lines. If I can find all the cutscenes, then I'll be sure to add them.

Jet Set Radio Future & Music Licensing [OLD POST}
Jet Set Radio Future was and is a phenomenal game. But the music? The music of JSRF was on another level. It was so unique and diverse. Weird and wonky. Stylish and raw. Futuristic yet modern. Half the reason people love this game is because of the music. One of the reasons people think an HD port of JSRF will never happen is because of the licensing issues. So, I did some research to see if that's true.
About 75% of the soundtrack is remixes and original songs commissioned to composers. The other 25% were licensed songs. Three of them came from Grand Royal, which folded before Jet Set Radio Future released. Grand Royal's back catalog (excluding the Beastie Boys' music) was purchased by some fans after that. Russell Simins' "I'm Not A Model", Bis's "Statement of Intent" and the original versions of Bran Van 3000's "The Answer" and The Prunes' "Rockin' The Mic" all belong to GR2 now.
Scapegoat Wax wasn't signed to just Grand Royal. Their first ablum was released three times within three years, under three different names, and on three different record labels (Goodvibes, Grand Royal and Hollywood Records). Considering that their third and final release SWAX is with Hollywood Records, it's possible to get another license for "Aisle 10 (Hello Allison)". Cibo Matto were signed to Warner Bros. back then so WB still owns their music ("Birthday Cake"). Guitar Vader's songs "Baby T" and the original "I Love Love You" was on Berry Records which likely shut down some time in the mid-2000s.
The Latch Brothers (a Beastie Boys side-group) were commissioned to produce music for the game. They made five songs, which are heavily intergral to the game. As for their remixes of Bran Van 3000's "The Answer", BS 2000's (also a BB side-group) "The Scrappy" and The Prunes "Rockin' The Mic"? To license them again they'd have to negotiate with the Beastie Boys since they own their music (commissioned tracks included) and GR2, which has the rights to the original versions of the remixes.
To Recap: SEGA probably (I could be wrong) owns about 75% of the music in JSRF. The Latch Brothers' remixes and Guitar Vader missing wouldn't hurt it that much, though considering how essential they are to the soundtrack would feel incomplete. Scapegoat Wax and Cibo Matto songs are so obscure now I doubt it'd cost as much as they did 18 years ago to re-obtain the licenses for them. Russell Simins and Bis's songs would likely be dirt cheap by this point.
All that said, I don't think licensing is the main issue. The fact is that SEGA just isn't interested in reviving Jet Set Radio Future. There's no market for it nor is there any incentive to justify them taking the risk. Sakura Wars was a safe choice. Jet Set Radio Future unfortunately isn't. It's sad but it is what it is

been feeling like venting, so just some random vents- then afterwards, JSRF ramblings because I just beat that game
turning 29 at the end of the week, not looking forward to it- turning 30 next year terrifies me
mother’s funeral was friday, got that out of the way relatively painlessly (other than having to spend an extra 800 dollars just to bury my sister with her, about $4500 by the end of it
gofundme raised about $2000, other donations about $1300 last I counted (probably higher), so most of it was covered
yesterday my mother’s 70 year old best friend held a party at a bar for my mother’s friends and I was obligated to go, bunch of crazy old women talking like sailors, drinking and smoking pot and laughing about all the drugs they did and all the times they got raped (yeahhhh), the only person I was comfortable around was the best friend. And then the party ends two hours late, we’re getting kicked out of the bar, and this friend falls bending down to grab a picture of my mother that she dropped, smashes her face into the floor, and collapses with a pool of blood under her face, unmoving, right in front of me. I couldn’t get the words out that I’d go and pick the photo up for her before she went to get it, and I regret it
Thankfully, she only had a concussion and a broken nose, she started responding after about a minute of just lying there, but it messed me up, I think.
I’ve been debating if I want to start drinking. I never tried before, mainly because my father was an abusive and violent alcoholic. The other reason is because I’m afraid what I’d do to myself if I had no inhibitions in place, I feel like I’d be very dangerous to myself.
neck has been stiff for two days. Probably slept on it wrong. Also keep feeling like I get different symptoms of covid every so often after exposing myself to the public (that bar was packed with old people who wouldn’t wear masks and had no concept of personal space). Today my throat’s been sore and I can barely breathe.
my boss told me I can go back to work as soon as the funeral’s finished- not sure if I should call her to remind her or wait for her to call me, she texted me last week and I told her the funeral was on friday. But my coworker was also wondering and asked me today, and I didn’t know what to tell her, since my boss doesn’t want me to let her know just yet because of how limited they’re open (three days a week, four hours a day)
relationships are very hard
I’m a terrible person who does the bare minimum to help someone who’s terribly lonely and depressed, and it’s like I’m backed into a corner in desperation from being unable to do anything about it. I’ve caused so much harm to this relationship that I wonder if there’s any way it can survive sometimes
It’s always the case, though- I can’t get myself to do more than the minimum effort it takes, and my social anxiety prevents me from ever initiating anything, which has cost me so many people that I shouldn’t be surprised at this point. And I can feel that awful, selfish bitterness inside of me, that part of my father and my sister that’s in me that I try to suppress, and I hate it.
my diet is going well enough, lost over five pounds since starting it late August. But it’s mostly because I just dislike eating, so eating in portions is easier for me. And then there are days like today, where I just don’t eat at all. Just ate one slice of bread, 30g of peanut butter, and a small cup of ice cream today, and I don’t even feel hungry. Normally I try to get some food in me, but today I’m just too disgusted to even try to make dinner.
My sleep’s also been weird, still. Been going to bed later and later again, but can’t stay asleep. Usually only sleep in bouts of 3-4 hours, then just lay awake until I’m half asleep long enough that I feel the urge to give up and get up. It’s been like that for weeks now, I can’t remember the last full night of sleep I’ve gotten.
In lighter news, finally got back to playing JSRF. Beat it the other night after 24.5 hours of game time, just have a few more challenges left (did everything from Dogenzaka Hill to the Bottom of the Sewage Facility so far), got all graffiti and souls possible before beating the final boss. Played it via emulator (which worked great except for crashing when entering the graffiti selection occasionally) with a Switch Pro Controller, felt really good. I own it and the original Xbox for it, but just am spoiled by a PC experience, I suppose.
The gameplay is great, but the level design leaves a funny taste in my mouth. Aesthetics are worse than JSR for me, while music... it’s tough to say, it’s different than JSR, but really grew on me. Sometimes it felt more like noise (I remember the Sewage tracklist not speaking to me too much at first with the more ambient-ish tracks), but it did grow on me a lot. Baby-T was my Garage theme the entire game, such a great track.
Naganuma’s music in the first game was definitely the weakest of the original’s OST (still good of course), but in Future I feel he really stepped up his game. Teknopathetic is one of my favorite songs in the new OST.
speaking of favorite music, here’s mine from each game:
Bout the City
Dragula
Magical Girl
Miller Ball Breakers
Mischievous Boy
On the Bowl (A.Fargus Mix)
Rock It On
Super Brothers
Yellow Bream
Aisle 10
Baby-T
Birthday Cake
Count Latchula
I'm Not a Model
Like It Like This Like That
Rockin' the Mic
Statement of Intent
Teknopathetic
The Scrappy
(shout outs to Girls from the one JSR CD, haven’t listened to much of the other exclusive songs to it, but Girls was good)
but yeah, my minor gripes with Future
Linear level design was a bit painful (missing a jump and not being able to backtrack a lot was bleh), and the later levels were very painful (the sewage area and the rooftops are come to mind, skyscraper to a lesser extent but I liked the skyscraper one a bit more), but at the same time, they force you to get good, which I can appreciate, so hm. Still, a checkpoint system (especially since there are save points) or unlocking shortcuts would be a bit more convenient, if not entirely necessary.
Not having a way to stop auto-grinding, even if just holding down a trigger or something- the way I latched onto rails especially in the sewage area was painful
Points challenges mainly being “find the special points rail and just spamming Y” on it was a bit odd (mainly for the Jet Techs so far, just five minutes of spamming Y...), but I like how the combos feel in this game, especially X combos to speed up. Has a rhythm that’s hard to explain but just feels natural.
Also street challenges should’ve been explained better in general, had to look up most of the special ones (and glitched out the Shibuya Terminal one many times until realizing the fix was just “hop all over each platform multiple times and hope it counts”, the second one next to the tilted platform specifically for me
Mew/Bis/Rhyth’s redesign still hurts, but you better believe she’s the character I used throughout the entire game after unlocking her
Storywise, I think I like JSR’s take better- Professor K being a neutral party and more amusing/less insulting, Onishima > Hayashi, and the character designs and artstyle I overall prefer from the first game
Felt like it tried to add things that just didn’t really work sometimes (Death Ball comes to mind, though I haven’t messed with Versus yet, the story mission was very easy compared to how they hyped it up), and the boss battles were all... strange. Tagging enemies on that roller coaster level, having to grind up to that one Hayashi boss fight over and over and over, then even moreso for the final boss... never got much use out of targeting enemies, spinning circles around them, or things like the railgrab for high jumps or skidding to slow down for graffiti, either, but maybe they have their uses.
But man, the game did feel fun to play, just frustrating to explore, I think. I still like the idea of making Skatered, even more after playing this game. Maybe I could learn modding, or something...
Oh yeah, also got all the pieces of my costume together (minus some eva foam), we’ll see how that goes. Not looking forward to assembling it, honestly, but I can’t back out now. Main regret I think is the tights, being unable to find striped ones (and the solid ones I bought being a bit too see-through, I should’ve bought a size up maybe). Still not confident enough in my makeup abilities, either.
and one last bit of light news- I finally got my Kuja figure, he’s so beautiful and detailed and I need a good place to put him

8, 24, 29 :haha:
8. what musical artists have you most felt connected to over your lifetime?oh god uhhh probably hideki naganuma and akira yamaoka, I’d say I’ve always been a very musicly inclined person but it never really felt like anything special to me until recently, I’ve always been a fan of the JSR OSTs even without knowing the game or gameplay and I’d say the OSTs for both JSR and JSRF are one of the best game OSTs ever made but idk I’m biased. the way that he mixes in voice clips into the music and the unique sound of it is just my favorite thing in the world I’d trade away all my art knowledge if i could make something like that. as for the silent hill soundtracks and yamaokas music its just absolutely jaw dropping to me how incredible the music he makes is to me, ive even made a song of my own using the samples he uses like im fucking in love with his stuff, i cried listening to white noiz once so i think that says enough about my thoughts24. have you ever felt like you had a “mind-meld” with someone?this is a question i dont know how to answer uh yes? no? maybe? if i ever had a mind meld it would be with you and it would end horribly29. three songs that you connect with right now.BS 2000 - The Scrappy (The Latch Brothers Remix) Hideki Naganuma - Teknopathetic and Hideki Naganuma - Brother Goes Away are what id say i connect most with right now, if someone had asked me this say 2 months ago the answers would’ve been wildly different

watched the jsrf documentary recently and i am so unbelievably dissapointed
moved my rant from the tags to here. Spitted too much. Not like it matters to anyone except me cuz post is irrelevant now
Ok ik that i should not have expected something actually accurate from this video, considering how the fandom is and considering that from the very start i've seen the red flags so to say
One of these red flags is that jsrf is "literally LITERALLY just tony hawk games but roller skates". The first actually concerning thing i heard from others about it. It's my go-to way to determine that the person I'm listening to probably has no idea what they're talking about or a really missinformed. Never failed me so far
But oh man, even keeping that in mind, i did not expect whatever i got
Not only there were just no actual game analysis, which is wild, since you're like SAYING why this game is worth being played, but everything actually game related is a straight up lie
YEAH WE'RE GETTING TO LYING ABOUT GAME MECHANICS HERE
First, saying that grind combos areva rhythm game element. It could be just some weird wording, but it's just. Not true at all. Also calling this mechanic "silent". Whatever that supposed to mean. Not only it's not silent because Roboy tutorials exist and this mechanic is there, and nowhere us it said to be rhythm based, only timing based. And the tutorials ARE useful, since the controls were really expended here(using pretty much every button on the controller), but also that's not a silent mechanic purely for the fact that the character itself isn't silent during the entire thing.
Second. Saying that all characters got unique stats and that is showing off their personality. And uhh. What does that say about the love shockers and the immortals, with their stats. Or hell, clutch and jazz, who are literally right next to each other in the character select screen. It's dumb what I'm trying to say.
And not to mention the general overhyping of the game, by saying it's so so deep and thought-provoking oohhh(but then also never mention that one of jsr inspirations was movie fight club.why). And then just. Ignore that this is a game with not much dialogue. And then ignore every character aside dj k?????????
Like I'm not asking about talking about every single character, but at least like. Mention the plot relevant one's ??? Just the ones you can't possibly avoid. I know that dj k is the main man here but he alone does not move the story.
This kind of overhyping genuinely ruined my experience. Like i was under the impression that I'm gonna experience something out of this world and fun. But i came out of it disappointed. Mind you, i still have a lot to like about the game, but it's just. Not this. This is literally the the worst thing you can do when recommending the game. You will disappoint people. It's not this big grand thing because it wasn't allowed to become one. It's a sad but inspiring story about how even despite this, game is still liked. You don't need to pretty it up, lay out the truth.
Next thing about the video is that this is not a game documentary, but some random hot takes with some lies and long history lessons.
History lessons were a good part of it, but the fact that they put the us culture stuff before talking about the japanese culture is umm. This is a game made to portray a japanese culture from the time?? Like specifically. It's confirmed. To the point that one dev did not like the inclusion of grind city levels in jsr, because, in his mind, it was watering down its identity. Not to mention that this practice specifically existed just to make overseas audiences more comfortable, which is real fucking problematic if it's about something culture related imo. Anyway, he has a point.
Absolutely not denying the influences from other cultures here, because that's just stupid and wrong, but get a clue jeez.
And related to getting clues. This video used videos of actual protest while dj k's monologue was playing in the background. YOU JUST DON'T DO THIS. It's gross. It's weird to do even IF the game gets that real. And this game sure as hell doesn't.
Also do not understand who was this vid even made for, since fans will get nothing new out of it and newcomers wont understand what's the game is about and will be thrown into a sudden history lesson
So yeah highly don't reccomend watching
(update. i spitted out most of my problems with it and my comment was removed. so much for that free speech topic present and indorsed in the vid. also i made a vid that explains my points better)

What a rough days
Hoped I reset my schedule but nope, I woke at 3am again. Tried to sleep for a while but realized impossible so worked on the art video. After a while I decided to make myself eat Mac n cheese since it’s been a over 12 hours and I haven’t eaten.
(Honestly I haven’t eaten since then... still not hungry, kinda sick)
Shortly after Nana woke rather late, she needed coffee, I asked what she wants for breakfast since I felt my energy waning. She didn’t want anything so I prepared to rest.
Then she got on me for drinking the Orange Juice... like she NEVER made an attempt to get any. It’s been days.
Then she kept going on about this and that and then she wanted eggs toast and bacon after telling me she didn’t want anything yet and it just kinda fried my brain and she was still yelling at me so I just decided to lie down in my room.
Then she went in there to tell me how worthless I am and to never ask her for anything again.
I think she also said she’s going into assisted living which like... fine I literally don’t care if that makes me homeless, I’m so exhausted of this life.
Then I wondered if I could just take literally all of my pills (I got 3 months of anxiety pills) and like maybe drink something and kill myself, then I though Well I could jump off the overpass maybe into a 18-wheeler.
Then I though, well I guess I’d have to leave a note and maybe a video. And the thought of explaining to my brother on a video why I had to die made me start crying.
Then I calmed down, sawn a Torrid ad on the floor and started crying again because the model sorta looks like a feminine me.
Then nana came back in to yell at me, scared me and she said something along the lines of not feeling sorry for me and I kept crying for a while until I stopped and was tired again.
So I sleep I think I dream about Phineas and Pherb except zombie vikings, then they time travel to the origin of the zombie vikings.
Like the whole Austin got flooded, oh yeah now it’s me, my mom, my brother paddling on chairs with wooden stop signs.
Turns out it was a hurricane cuz it came back and it was so hard to walk when we got to the flooded airport terminal.
I was bare-assed and I had to get my bro’s chair from someone sitting on a stack of chairs. Then this black chick in purple make-up like from some JSRF shit was trashing me for being the bougious old money like.
I literally don’t have underwear.
So I woke around 10pm, used bathroom went to sleep, except nana needed me to like move her beds or something cuz I think she broke her hip or something.
Also I think the fellas were doing the Starfinder thing. I was like “fuck life” and just turned it off. Like I swear that game is cursed.
I couldn’t think straight, was trying to figure the easiest way to move that bed, and she starts trash talking me again and like... I’m done.
Anyways she slept in the living room, had to lug the oxygen and give her a breathing treatment before going back to sleep.
THen I dreampt that nana like took us to the hospital or something? No wait it’s a Holiday inn in Austin, she went to sleep in that bed. I was wearing just a shirt again, confused. Went into some lady’s room thinking it was mine.
She didn’t mind so it took me a bit to realize.
Then dad and my brother came over to pick us up. Also Papa was there.
This part got really weird cuz I got a fancy snow cone in a gas station.
Anyways we drove to TC college (Temple Collage Collage... aunno branding) and I’m early to class. Open up my backpack and it’s like alternate universe me. She looks like normal girl, tanned hair and like I’m like
“Did you drink my Dr Pepper” and I ripped it out of my hands and I’m like “Thanks a lot... me” and I don’t even fucking know how I fit into a backpack and how it’s not jarring to open a backpack and see my own ass sleeping there.
Anyways it’s 6:30am and I’m probably gonna have to take nana to the doctor unless she’s better.
I haven’t bathed in days, haven’t had a decent meal in days, just life is trash.

Guitar Vader's Magical Girl is such a good song. People seem to really like JSRF. Me? It's ok, but the original JSR was just a wonderful game and its soundtrack was so poppy and bubbly. I owe that game my life, but that's a story for another time.
Unfortunately, I’ve never played any JSR. JSR...is not my cup of tea. Just never could get into it.

I think I'll elaborate more, because this post is a prime material of getting screenshoted and spread around with false claims(talking like i have a big following bruh)
Most important part out of the way(there are more hot takes below, but these are not as important as this statement )
It's not bad that they feel uncomfortable by the design. People have the right to feel anything, even if they're misguided
I certainly am uncomfortable with how most fandoms treats things regarding ethnicity, even though most fandom will see these things as normal
But this attitude with "I don't like it everyone fix it NOW" is what makes this tweet infamous in my eyes. Makes me think that the author was trolling. But this mindset is unfortunately pretty common, so I'm still taking it at face value
The claim itself, that whatever thing from JSR series is racist, is definitely grinding my gears
Because not only it just ignores everything presented in the games themselves, but also ignores a very important context that this is a game series from early 2000s and that's a long ass time ago
Our standards changed a lot
Is it wrong to criticise discriminatory things from old media? Absolutely not, I do it too. But, at the end of the day, this is just the environment it was made in. You can't change it, but you can educate people about it
But is JSR even racist??
Is a game, where the narrator, coolest guy ever and basically the star of the show, is a black guy, and features three more black playable characters, which are viewed positively by a lot of POC people, racist?
Not saying that they're a monolith and think the same way(in fact, Combo's model in JSR gets rightfully criticised) but from my experience, i saw majority of people liking these characters.
Like devs could easily not put these characters in. In fact, one concept art of DJ K shows him looking like Beat, probably is intended to be seen as having light skin. They could've easily went with that, but they didn't. Almost like it says something
But then you can say that all of this doesn't matter, since these characters have the donut lips
But they don't
Like they literally don't have them
There's one JSR artwork in existence that has them and SURPRISE it's not with Tab
It's Combo(again)(man can't catch a break💔 )
Tumblr media
But the rest? Nah. Literally doesn't fit the definition. You can clearly see that there's an upper and lower lip. They're seperated. Look more like sausages tbh. And that's just how lips here are drawn for guys. For girls they're smaller and more shaped. Is it good?? Idk you decide. But it's definitely a stylistic choice, that's better seen with JSRF art
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact, JSRF Combo and Tab have a very similar lip shape. Yeah. It's just that Tab's lips are colored
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Never seen hate for JSRF Combo, so it makes me think that you just hate Tab for wearing lipstick. Smh
Not to mention that everyone calling his lips "ugly" just rubs me the wrong way. People with big lips exist, guys. Sometimes they're not the prettiest, but that's just how they are. Creating not pretty characters is not a crime
Tab is already getting yassified to hell, don't demonise big lips like that
So yeah that's all i wanted to say, think what you want tho. I'm just stating what i think
The story i told in the tags of a previous post made me remember a real funny thing
One time i was threatened over making a joke about yoyo, comparing him to ghiaccio from jjba
Tumblr media
That person?
The same one who created the tab hot take
Tumblr media
On a fucking series anniversary no less
Remember this happening very clearly cuz i just got into jsr back then
So yeah small world
