Of course! Am happy to see that people like my silly au i made as i always had a love for horror/crime related stuff so i just squished the two together but to get started on the fun facts for the characters

Jerry.

Hes probably the sweetest one of them all not into the whole killing thing like the rest but mess whit his Love [Bill] or his muses and your as good as surviving a final destination character

He definitly adopts any animals he sees like cats, dogs, birds, snakes, (lituraly anything and everything the boy ain't picky) to the dismay of Bill and Josh, Pete won't give a fuck in reality

Hes also super creative and would make anything as a sighn of affection expeshaly when Bill or the others aren't in a cuddlly mood for him so his love language is gifts, hugs, giving stuff like snacks, and all the nice stuff, oh and definitly stalking and heling "hide" anyone who dare be mean to the one he Loves/cares about

As for how he and Bill began to date i made a kind of joke comic about it but to put more information on it i would say it started bifore they got admitted to the prison/mental Institute whit Jerry being himself and stalking a new Muse (who can be anything like a oc or some rando tho maybe not Mandi as i do like her and might do somthing whit her/Jane & Tommy and maybe Petes while ass sibling thing) but besides that Bill ends up chatting up qho ever the muse may be and ends up killing them by poison which Jerry sees and starts to despise Bill over and durring the period of Jerry hating and playing Bills end he gets caught and sent to the Institute where he meets Pete and Josh tho Josh dosen't really talk much then so Jerry was mously "friends" whit Pete tho that was more of a Pete protects him from people who could kill him but in return he needs to deal whit Pete Rough housing games which ended up giving or poor boy a black eye and several ways of ending somone in there sleep but bifore that happends he sees no other then Bill and whit Jerry having so much pent up rage for the death of his muse and Pete being a dick he fliped him off to rope Bill into a fight but it diden't take long for Jerry to crack as insted of Bill getting mad he asked him way hes doing it made something snap in Jerry and he realized that his hatred was so stupid as it was one sided for months maybe even a few years by then so all that pent up emotions diden't go to anger but to sadness and as he balled his eyes out Bill insted of walking away took some pitty and went to comfort him in which seeing Jerrys flush tear staned face basecly made cupid skipe Bill whit an arrow as he dose actualy fall in love for Jerry and after that they just started to date and open up more tho Jerry still dosen't talk much about some stuff (aka more lore and even a comic thing i have i just need it checked first as the topics are pritty heavy) but Jerry ends up being a happy clingy mess to Bill and Bill loves every second of it,

As for how he meet Josh id say that Pete instantly noticed Josh by day one as Josh was definitly shell shocked and quiet do to somthing ill put in Joshes part but Pete baseckly started following him arround a lot not really talking untill Josh had enogh and told him to stop wigh Pete just told him somthing about if he stoped then he will just get Picked at by other people as hes seen as a defencless weakling dew to his size, inguries, and timid look he had going on and Josh seeing that begrudgingly let Pete stay around which was not the best as that developed into them kind of dating kind of not in the moust doomed toxic relationship ever but even then theres some sweet moments

Now Josh is definitly the quiet handy man in the group not interested in drama or andthing beyond a good show or book

Josh is definitly a complex character for me as i had a hard time getting ides for him bit for his Backstory he was a very toxic/manipulative person thretenind to harm himself and others dew to him being insacure of cousing anyone as he knows hes horror but he can't be bothered to fix it and that attatude ended up causing him to murder somone be it his mom/friend/maybe gf? Which led him to report himself of it whit out thinking whick ended him meeting Pete and the others

Josh definitly enjoys some of Jerry's pets like the Bunny's, cat's, hell even a deam opossum as it jelp keep away snackes

Josh also dose not fight whit Bill or really anyone hea basecly a large depresed teddy bear who will mess you up if needed or told to but would rhater prefer a nap or his show

I do think that Jerry and Josh would have adorible moments being the more calmer ones so i see them taking naps and cuddling or Josh would lisen quietly to Jerry gush over his new muse/animal he adopted,

hey! thanks for asking such a great question :) part of it is that you do & you don’t. some client work you’re not gonna want to do but will have to if you want to make money from it (i recently had to draw a kid on a potty). as for personal work & your own shop, in my opinion you have to draw what makes you happy and you will find your crowd. my goal is to create characters that make me say “heh heh” and the hope is that it resonates with others.

it sounds like where you are right now might not be the time to be making money off of what you’re doing? in which case i’d recommend you continue exploring your “why”. collect your favorite artworks from other artists and ask yourself if you can find a common denominator, and incorporate that into your work. put together a pinterest board of your favorite things from childhood and do the same (that’s how i found out i like drawing animals in clothes: richard scarry, tea bunny toys, hamtaro, etc.)

GREAT NEWS! I've finished Jons and Reader's room. Along with the adjoining bathroom as well. I've really enjoyed your fic so far, and I am excited to see what you have planned. (I used House Flipper 2 to create this, and unfortunately, I am limited as to the object in the game. Being mostly modern, it may feel a bit empty.)

Anyway, to start, I apologize that it was a little darker in the room than I would have liked it to be, but I suppose that makes sense considering they only had candles and the sun for light and up north daylight is becoming less and less and is cold up there so not a lot of windows to let in light. Since the main keep is a tower, I tried to invoke that feeling by cutting off the corners.

Off to the left are some wardrobes and a vanity. And a little chair with a low back so Jon can stand behind and brush the reader's hair.

Upon closer inspection, we find two combs and a pair of gloves. Along with other such trinkets. (sorry for the obvious bright light in the center; I used the flashlight because it was too dark)

To the left of the room are some bookshelves filled with all sorts of old books reader loves.

In an earlier post, you mentioned something about Jon adding things to the room. He thinks you would like to make it more there room than just his, like a soft chair or books you like. One very soft pink chair to sit and read baby Eddard Scarry foreshadowing history books. Peep the black and yellow/gold pillows, Baratheon colors.

That fire palace was one of the first things I added to the room, going back to the show to see what their rooms looked like. Took me like 3 hours to get it right. I think I look cute. It has a nice fur rug and some seating that can be pushed to the side for… activities.

There are not a lot of stags or wolf type objects in the game (actually, that's all of them), so I want to put them somewhere special. That stone wolf head, I imagine it being like a banner instead of a head.

Skipping past that door, I want to move to the little window nook. In the show, we can see that Winterfell has some thick ass walls, so the windows end up being in a little cave almost.

Several times, we see Jon and the reader eating in their room. Got some bread and cheese, along with some fruit.

(that bed was originally made by Kenter. The build is Madame Edith's Corset Emporium. It's on mod.io) I imagine that they would have some kind of four-poster bed with heavy curtains. To keep that heat in when it's especially cold.

On Jon's side, I put him in the side facing the door. Got some scrolls he needs to read; poor man, the work never ends. I imagine he probably props Longclaw up against the side table.

On reader's side, some books for night reading? A colorfull pillow and what's that to the side of the bed.

BABY EDDARDS CRADLE! It is actually two shelves precariously pushed together. Silly, I know, but the cradles in the game are so big. It's so cute and a little like him.<3

Not much going on in there, but less is more with babies. But he's got a thick swaddle, so no need to worry. That toy in there is a sheep, but we’re going to ignore that and pretend it is a small wolf. (I would imagine that most of his toys would be wood) there's a fur rug under it. I feel like if ghost isn't sleeping by the fire or on the bed, he sleeps there.

Moving on. The bathtub, this dam tub, gave me so much trouble trying to make the inside round was easier than I expected it to be. Unfortunately, I couldn't make the outside round, but since I put candles on the edges, it's fine.

When the protagonist of a shonen manga looks all monstrous and scarry in their most powerful form while they're fighting for the good and freedom of the world that's something sooooooooo personal to me.

When they've been changed beyond recognition and are surrounded by this out-of-their-mind aura and when their friends call for them because they know the MC enough not to be taken aback by their appearances????

Power CHANGES people. It must. Somewhere deep inside they're still good and kind and they're the one person you fell for, but power won't be denied it must be acknowledged it must manifest at a glance. No one can be that powerful and be quiet about it. It leaks through their existence, it coated their essence, they've been branded by it.

You see, the thing about the protagonist reaching final form is that they're on their limit. Body and mind. That type of power dehumanizes them and puts them out of reach and that's the point. They are alone over there, they just trust that somehow their friends are going to find a way to catch them after it's over, the very power that can save them and the people they love pushes them further and further away.

ive been thinking a lot about scarri lately

trigger warnings (bcz tumblr fucking nukes this if i put them in the tags): descriptions of eating disorders (weight loss is only briefly touched upon, and the eating disorder that this story is focused on is not focused on wl,) descriptions of toxic parenting, emetophobia, misogyny, and internalized transphobia (towards the self)

there is something rotting inside of her. rotten? something that's long since rotted. she's not sure when it died, but one early morning, she sat up with the sudden understanding that something inside of her was dying, dead, done, and she had had no say in the matter.

(her dad said marlowe boys died young. she knows she's not boy enough to die, so maybe, this was her body's compromise.)

there's a man in her kitchen, making her food. he puts a plate of eggs, fruit, homemade bread, in front of her. he kisses her mother on her way out the door, handing her her coat. when she's gone, and she sticks the first bite her mouth, it's wrong. it's wrong, because she knows, she shouldn't accept this.

(her dad didn't usually make breakfast. even when she asked. the man in her kitchen doesn't have to be asked, and when she takes a bite, he smiles. it's nothing like her fathers, and when she wants to smile back, she knows it's the beginning of the end. because nobody is really dead, not until they're not loved, and if she doesn't love her father, who will?)

she takes sips of water in between thoroughly chewed bites, doesn't finish the bread, and doesn't bother to excuse herself when she goes upstairs to run the shower. she can feel the rotten thing feed, as the food digests, but she still waits. just a little longer, as she pulls her hair back. just a little longer, after the first time is a fluke.

(her dad had made jokes about this. pointing at a pretty girl terri had been watching on the street, and making a two finger gesture to his mouth. he'd told terri that it was the lazy way out.)

there's a knock on the door, a gentle calling to her. when she shouts back some cruel response, she's not sure if her voice is rough from the bile, or the tears gathering in her eyes.

he knocks again.

will you please let me in, honey?

she hates him. she hates him so much. the man on the other side of the door lives in her house, loves her mother, loves her, didn't give her an option in making her love him. she wishes she didn't. wishes she didn't so deeply. she hates that she likes him.

(she stopped liking her father at some point. it was hard to, when every moment with him felt like a delicate performance of being his favorite girl.)

she doesn't know what to do. there is wasted food in the toilet, there is something dead inside of her, and the fear rolling over her has made her cold all over.

i'll wait outside. you can open the door when you're ready. or tell me to leave.

she doesn't tell him to leave. she cries, and pulls her hair at the root, and she feels ill enough to throw up without having to put work into it.

it takes a while for her to open the door. when she does, she knows she looks sick, knows she looks like hell warmed over, knows he sees the snot and tears.

and he pulls her in for a hug. and she's crying again, when she'd just been so sure she'd used up the last of the water in her body. coughing, and shaking, and doing these little half gasps for air, like her lungs can't get enough.

i hate you. she manages to weep.

i know. he says, and he doesn't. he doesn't hate her.

i hate you so much. she says, beating her fists weakly against his back.

it's okay. he says, pressing a kiss to the crown of her head, like he'd done once when he thought she was asleep. she thought of it all the time. tried to consider some monstrous motivation she could twist it into, but there wasn't one. you don't have to like me.

why can't you hate me? because he doesn't. no matter what she does, he just takes it.

you're 15. he says, like it's the most obvious thing in the world. i can't hate you. you're just a kid.

(she'd been a woman since she was 11, and her mother had lent her her first pad. every part of womanhood had been a gift she didn't want, and she had not been given a receipt)

Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yes, though I missed quite a few when I was on hiatus. I love engaging with readers and seeing what in my stories struck their fancy. I've made some great friends over the years through comments on my fic.

What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? There are No Innocent Vampires (31K). This is a Scarry fic (both are adults). I do have a few others.

What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Uh, most of them. But if forced to choose, Silver and Gold (70.6K) with Wolf!Draco!

Do you get hate on fics? OMG Yes. My first fic, Double Edged Sword in its earliest chapters was sporked on Deleterius. It’s a wonder I ever wrote again, but I was so pissed off at the Drarry writer who did it, I carried on. Thankfully the site went bye bye. And I also learned from that fic never ever have either Harry or Draco have an affair with Charlie Weasley. LOL. More currently, I just had to lock my current WIP this week because of a troll. ☹

Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I write both slash and het but it's not my fav thing to do. I only put it in when it fits a scene and it can take me days and days to write that scene.

Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written? No

Have you ever had a fic stolen? Yes, twice. Doubled Edged Sword was brought over to FFN and Survival of the Species brought over to adultfanfiction. The latter was quite funny because someone opened an account using my name to post it.

Have you ever had a fic translated? Yes but now I'm sad. Almost all of my translated fics are gone. *sobs* The sites they were posted on no longer exist. However, my fav translations were done by Pescadora and her team at Intruders Slashzine. They translated the following in Spanish. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Yes, me and 9 of my friends…I think we’re still friends. *just kidding* We each wrote a chapter for this story. If you like Case Fic and haven’t read it, give it a shot. Level Two: Series One

What’s your all-time favourite ship? Drarry but I do write for other ships both slash and het and also Gen. I mainly read Drarry but also the others mentioned. I just really enjoy good plotty HP stories.

What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? After I finish my current WIP, The Azkaban Letters, (Drarry and Haphne) that I started in 2007, and finish another one I also started in 2007 at Christmas, I’ll be done with all WIPs I’ve posted on AO3.  I do have a few in my personal files. One, which I have 30K written for and it’s Scarry. It's the Scarry one I have my doubts about.

What are your writing strengths? Plot and world building. Some folks like my dialogue.  I try. 

What are your writing weaknesses? Well besides the smut already mentioned, character analysis and slow burn. Definitely more of action/adventure writer.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? No no no.  Did it once for Double Edged Sword. It was in Russian for which I had a translator or 3 write out the text for me and give me final approval. To this day I still get Russian readers disagreeing with the text.

First fandom you wrote for? Harry Potter and still here.

Favourite fic you’ve written? This is hard, but for personal reasons, I’d have to say This Ain’t the Garden of Eden. It was the first story I wrote after an almost ten-year break. I had to shut down my muse back then almost overnight, and I wasn’t sure it could be revived. I'm tagging any other writer who wants to join the fun! Free Tag!

Tooning In 15 Greg Bailey part 5 of 10

DL:Yes, please! So let's talk about your crowning achievement, Arthur for PBS and WGBH Boston.So what was the story behind the transition from book to world famous TV show?

GB:In what way do you mean?

DL:As how Arthur became a TV cartoon.

GB:Marc Brown had about 10 books out in the market based on Arthur. The character designs of the characters like Arthur and Binky and Buster were in the books but they looked extremely different in each book and on every page even. Anyway Mark lived in Hingston MA near Boston and Carol Greenwald worked at WGBH Boston. When Carol got the go ahead to produce a new kids show she liked the books and got in touch with Marc Brown. This was the first animated show that was going to be made for PBS so it had no precedent. Once Marc and WGBH had an understanding they had to find an animation company that could produce animation. So they scouted around North America including Canada as far as Toronto and Montreal at least. They had gone to Nelvana because they were a big well known company in Canada. Then they came to Cinar in Montreal. We were a smaller company but we allowed more input from the rights holders on our shows and we had developed a good track record on spinning books into successful animated shows. We were riding high on the success of The Busy World of Richard Scarry. I would say that the series was very true to the look and sensibility of the books even though the work was very painstaking.Anyway I took Marc and Carol on tour through the animation studio when I saw them getting off the elevator looking lost. I gave them a 25 cent tour showing them how we were putting together R, Scarry and Little Lulu and that kind of blew them away because I doubt they really saw such a large and functioning animation company by that time. Marc always claims that I was very nice to them and he liked my attitude. I was not scheduled to direct Arthur when they came in but I was doing Little Lulu and I was the supervisor of all the directors in Cinar at the time. So I was involved with meeting them for the meeting that day. We had another director lined up at the meeting to do the series Arthur. On the other hand Nelvana just kind of brushed them off and said to basically send the money and they would do the show the way they did every other show. I think for both Marc and Carol they felt like that was giving up any control or connection to the series. That was the Nelvana way of operating and I don't think things have really changed in that way since then.I think we just offered a more human touch and approach than the competition so it put them at ease. I mean it was their baby for both Carol and Marc. So it makes a lot of sense looking back.

DL:Yeah Nelvana after Rock and Rule was kinda like DiC during that time either as a outsourcer or rights holder to make animated series off of books, video games, movies,comics, etc like during this time they worked on Little Bear, Gargoyles, The Neverending Story cartoon, The Free Willy cartoon, The Magic School Bus, and a Ace Ventura cartoon. The only original property they made at this time was Stickin Around for YTV and FOX.

GB:Nelvana characters in their shows have possibly forever lacked some kind of personality or soul. Their shows always looked really modern and slick but the characters were very generic and you never felt like you knew them. Like they were not really your friends that you hang out with every day. I would say at least on R Scarry and Arthur that the shows looked like they were made by humans and they had fingerprints on them and the characters had some warmth or personality that you never saw in Nelvana. At best Nelvana had some nasty characters that would insult other characters and they were good at the bad boy characters but they were never anyone you would want to hang out with. They had a very different approach and I am not running them down. I always thought their shows looked so much better than ours technically but after one episode there was no need to watch a second episode. It was not going to be different or go to another level. Stickin’ Around is a good example of what I mean. I loved that show. I thought the technique was brilliant and the show looked great. The crew and director that pulled that off were amazing. The characters were unbearable though. They screamed everything they said so it was completely one emotion. The specific line of dialog could come out of any of the characters because they were the same personality. The emotion in each show was the same- Hyper. If you saw the first show you can be guaranteed the emotional journey on the second show will be exactly the same. If you think of a really great live-action series like Mad Men you can watch that series and watch the emotional roller coaster and twists in the understanding of the characters, develop from show to show and year to year. You don't know what will happen by the end of the episode when you are halfway through each show.

DL: I mean and Nelvana's animation started to get stiff during the 90s, as I think because of budget or was it from Canadian Content law?

GB:The studios in Canada got really big during the 90s and it was hard to find talent because animation artists needed to draw in the period just before Flash style animation. The budgets and the bigger talent pool were fairly adequate and that is why American producers were all coming to Canada to produce the shows in Canada. Nelvana may have been putting more money in the pockets of the producers instead of spending it on the shows. I had a great relationship with Nelson Shinn at Akom and with Hanho when we did R. Scarry and Arthur traditionally in Korea. The overseas work in the best studios made a big difference in the lack of stiffness. Nelson was doing The Simpsons and he was doing Arthur and those shows were really mopping up the competition in America in those days. Nelvana was trying to dump some lame shows in Akom and not paying for the higher level of show. Mostly the show just wasn't very interesting in the first place. Nelson liked The Simpsons and he liked Arthur, and because he was still just a big kid animator running a company like an art studio instead of a factory he would get good results on those shows. If the show wasn't as good he would let you know.

DL:So back to Arthur, so what did you think about the character designs Marc gave you to work off of?

GB:It was the other way around. We had the 10 books he had published. The characters never looked the same from picture to picture so we had to find a good average and establish some guidelines. A character in animation has to turn and exist in 3 dimensions but in illustration it can just be different in the side of the front view for example. so maybe in the front view the nose is higher or he has whites in his eyes and in profile the nose drops down and you don't have white in the eyes just because it looks better. Or maybe he has 5 hairs in 3/4 view and 3 in profile in illustration. But in animation the character turns or moves into the new position so things can't just pop off or on. It gets annoying if you see that a lot. So we would do a design and make a rotation of the character. Things like his glasses had to be drawn with a double line so we could add the brown color. In illustration it might have just been a brown line when the character is small.Anyway, we did the rotations of each main character and then sent them out every week or 2 when we had enough characters done. Marc would ask to change things in one view or another and that meant changing all the views in some cases if he tried doing something like lowering the glasses in side view. For us we couldn't have the glasses suddenly slip down when he turned each time. In animation, we are also looking at the character as a 3D figure so everything has to line up in all views. Marc was really great at doing new characters or guest characters because he was so comfortable with his style that he could whip off a really great rough design of someone like Arthur Garfunkle. We generally limited the characters to a finite number of animals. Cat, dogs, Aardvark, rats, bear, monkey, and rabbits. These were all from Marc's world. There are a few oddball ones that came out of the design department that stuck around like goats, alligators, and moose. We settled on kind of a nervous and broken line work so it looked more naive and hand drawn. A few things got standardized like everyone always has whites in the eyes. Prunella was an example that we left alone and she never had whites in her eyes unless she got shocked.It took a few months just to do the main pack design and in the end they looked kind of Frankensteinish with all the adjustments. I asked one of the really great designers we had to go over the whole main pack and rotations and action poses and expressions and make the drawing all consistent. His name was Anastasio. I haven't seen him since. I think it was a huge job to do in the short time it took him to do it. But we kept using those main packs for most of the years of production. WE got rid of Muffy's buck teeth after season 1 because Marc decided he didn't like them. and we tweaked Arthur a little because his ears and glasses were out of perspective in some views.

(update from Dom, the Anastasio guy who did the model sheets was Stephane Anastasio, who worked on the series from 1996-1997 as a character designer. He hasn’t worked in Animation before or since the series)

DL:So a question I had for a really long time, is why don't they have tails?

GB:Thank God for that. The characters in R. Scarry had tails that stuck out of little holes in their pants. The dog character's tails looked kind of phallic even. I think the reason is that although Arthur characters are animal-headed they are actually just kids. So they don't have paws or legs like animals or anything. Unless they are actually an animal like Pal or Nemo.

DL:Oh, that makes sense. Many people think that Arthur is just a human who sees everyone as animals. Because in the last episode, Arthur got into drawing animals and in the future he made an autobiographical book with everybody as animals in-universe.Right?

GB:But even in the last episode he still looks like an animal though when he shows his book of the first episode that he illustrated. Now you got me. Why is he studying animals?

DL:Yeah, I don't know. I mean, are they animals or not? Did you talk to Brown about the episode ending?

GB:Of course, we all read the script drafts and approved the character designs, and watched the various versions of the incomplete show. I remember from Marc's comments years ago that he said he wished he had not done the books as animals in the first place because he just wanted them to be kids. It was something he could not undo.I had a different interpretation of the last episode though from the others and I am entitled to my own opinion. I think that none of the time frame from episode 1 until before we dissolved to the Sugarfree Bowl in the last episode existed. The new hipster Arthur is just beginning a fictional book series starting on episode one and he is going to make up all those stories that make up the Arthur TV for the last 25 years. It's not Arthur retelling his past. It's not an autobiography. That doesn't really solve the animal question however. But the end of the last episode is actually the first episode of the series, in that understanding.

DL:Oh, I see, it makes a little sense.

GB:I will have to ask Peter why he didn't ask for the hipster characters at the end to be humans. I will let you know if he had a reason or if he thought they would be.

DL:Another question, why do most animals, like dog and cat characters like Binky and Jenna have human noses?

GB:Jenna has a cat nose. I think because cats often have a nose like a human's. Try to find the Jenna character in the original 10 Arthur books. She looks totally different and not like a cat at all. Binky too is pretty much adapted from the book where he has that big globular nose

DL:Ah yeah, I remember this is when Arthur was going for a more realistic funny animal style before Marc Brown anthropomorphized them over the years. Imagine if this is what you have to work with if Marc hadn't changed his style.It would've look like Richard Scarry.

GB:He did evolve this more before we started. You would need to look through Arthur's Eyes and Thanksgiving, Arthur's Birthday to see what we had to start with. He only had this super long nose for the first 2 books. They often had hairs drawn on the skin and of course, the clothing changed more often. I was trying to find the old Binky and Sue Ellen picture. I remember a lawyer at Cinar came and asked me which character was in a book. His kid was puzzled. I think it was Sue Ellen but she is very different looking and there was only one design in the books.The books were pretty popular especially amongst educators even before the show came out. They still look pretty good compared to most kids books out there.later on Marc adapted his book illustration more toward what we had in the series and then stuck with it. HIs heads are still a little larger and have nice round furry ears and he is cuter than the TV Arthur, but then again we had to age Arthur up to the 3rd grade for the series. I would say our TV character is more heads high than he is in the current books. He is less wide in the tv series.

DL: Another Question, why did you adapt Arthur's Eyes as the first episode instead of Arthur's Nose? Did you ever adapted Arthur's Nose?

GB: We never did Arthur's Nose. That would have required giving him a nose job or something. Although it would be funny I don't think as many kids would relate to it.

DL: Yeah, Imagine a "Word from Us Kids" segment on that!

GB:Haha! Maybe we could do one more show and do Arthur's Nose but have him change to that big nose like in the first book. All the other kids would be envious and want one like that too.

DL: Yeah, good idea! Lol! So, you were talking about the VAs of the Little Lulu show coming back on Arthur last time. And I wanted to ask how was the recording sessions were on Arthur?

GB: sure go ahead and ask. We primarily had a Montreal cast in the first 10 seasons so we would record in Montreal. Then as time went on we started recording more and more in Toronto but a lot of our main original cast was still in Montreal. Some people were young teens when we started and they had to move away to get on with their lives elsewhere so we would record them remotely in Vancouver or wherever. Some guest stars were recorded in Montreal like Mr. Rogers and Garfunkle and most of the time we had to go to record them where they wanted . It was great in the old days when everyone was together and we could record ensembles. This was really great if we had a big section of Arthur and DW because they would play off each other and we'd get a better performance. Some of the kid characters were adults since the beginning like Bruce Dinsmore who did Binky, Dad and Bailey. And others were old teens like Danny Brochu and Jodi Resther who did Buster and Francine. Then we also had kids like Melissa Altro doing Muffy and the boys that did Brain, Tibbles, Arthur and DW. Those buys kept changing as their voices changed. Initially I insisted we used Michael Caloz as DW even though he is a boy but we had him do the voice of Annie in Little Lulu and I thought he was brilliant. He was the best kid actor I can remember. His voice changed and he moved on in life but we always came back to replacing him with another boy to get that voice quality. I don't know if that answers your question.

DL:Why didn't they record the series in the US if it was an American co-production?

GB:A few reasons come to mind. WGBH was not involved with any production except the writing and the interstitials. Production was all produced or subcontractors were paid by Cinar and so expenses paid in Canada would entitle the production to a tax credit. Secondly, Cinar started as a post-production and recording studio. So we had the facilities and expertise right in-house. Canada at that point already had a reputation for recording animation voice-over. You remember I mentioned that I began working for DIC in Tokyo because I knew someone who owned a recording company in Toronto that recorded voice-over for DIC LA. Even now many animated shows are recorded and post prod is done in Canada for kids shows. If we recorded in the US we would have to send me and a voice director to that city for the recording so it would have been an expense and time spent. Most times the guest stars were recorded in the US.

DL:Ah. So what do you think about the writing on the series and that it was written by Americans, head written by Joe Fallon and Ken Scarabourgh?

GB:I think we had the most amazing writing for any kid's animated series. You also forgot to name Peter Hirsch who was head writer from the time Joe left until the end. We just had the most crazy, most talented and most willing to push the boundaries writers we could have dreamed of. Those guys and even the rest of the writing crew were really fantastic and I loved having the opportunity to work with them. The stories are really what made the series so fantastic and memorable.

DL:Yeah but I remember Joe Fallon left because of something at CINAR.

GB:No nothing to do with Cinar, he left because of a disagreement with Marc Brown. Joe is a fantastically creative and funny writer. His scripts would just be totally insane and you would laugh hard just reading his script. I mean a script isn’t like literature and if you laugh at the script it's rare. Joe would just wind himself up and let go and the story would go through all these crazy places and twists until it came to the end. He is quite brilliant

DL:Yeah and the crazy bus left with him. Seriously, why did that song go?

GB:Yeah that was his crazy bus song. Joe did the demo of that song after he wrote it into the script. Jeff Zahn the music arranger kept Joe's original vocals for the final song and I don't think Joe liked that because he was hoping it would be redone by a singer. Though I guess now he gets the royalties for performing it as well as composing. anyway the song got used a few times in other shows. I think once by Joe and once in another script after Joe left and Joe told us to stop using the song in more shows after he heard that. I don't really know any more of the nitty gritty about that issue. This all kind of heated up about the same time and the fight with Marc and Joe's leaving the show so it was all related in some way.

DL:Ah, so another question is what do you think of AKOM in South Korea and their work on Arthur?

GB:They were excellent. I loved AKOM. It was my favorite studio overseas of the Korean studios. They did such a great job on Arthur. Even sometimes when Simpsons was out of season we would get the animation crew from there on Arthur and the timing and movements were just great in general. Also, the backgrounds were beautiful. They were always on time and I only have praise for them. I miss working with them a lot. I don't even know if AKOM still exists now or if Nelson and his son are still alive.

DL:AKOM is still around but they only do Simpsons now.

GB:Good.

DL:But yeah after Rough Draft opened , they took away many of their clients like Warner, Disney and Universal. to the point of Arthur and Simpsons being their only source of work.

GB: I remember that. I think I was very loyal to them because I always had such great work from them. I first worked with them on Bunch of Munsch and I thought they were good then. So much animation went to China shortly after that point.

DL:Yeah! Your thoughts on the studio, Animation Services? ( I know, it really rolls off the tongue.)

GB:The question should be why did we change to Animation Services who were clearly a less experienced and less talented studio.This was entering the dark days at CINAR. The new owners had taken over and most of the studio had been shut down. The only series was Arthur. Michael Hirsch who was now the president of CINAR had an old dispute with AKOM. He disliked them because he had put a show in AKOM and wanted the best crew on the show but he was not going to pay for the top tier or animation teams. So this old grudge continued later when he controlled CINAR. WGBH also did not get along with Michael Hirsch from a long time ago grudge and they now wanted to cut the budget significantly. At the same time WGBH had it in their heads that we needed to start doing the series in Flash animation because they were doing some other show in Flash and they believed the hype that the show would always be on model and it would be so much cheaper to do. The Flash salesmen had done a good job on them and it stuck in their heads. So we dropped AKOM and started testing companies to do the show in Flash. We tested some good companies in Canada like Mercury and some overseas companies and some pretty inexperienced companies in Canada. We also tested Animation Services. Steven Ching's company. He found a company in Nanjing that could still do traditional animation. At least they still had the key animators but not assistant animators anymore. Anyway, he did the test for the show traditionally on his own decision saying he could do it cheaper than digital. Digital animation was not big yet in China. So out of all the tests we had, I felt that the one from Animation Services still looked the most like the same old Arthur series. The characters seemed to still inhale and breathe compared to digital animation. It wasn't at all as good as AKOM but out of the choices I thought it was going to be less trouble staying in traditional rather than switching to digital and having all those other problems like not having extreme angles and things we were familiar with in Arthur. I got everyone to agree and we managed to do 3 or 4 more seasons traditionally at Animation Services for considerably less money than AKOM. They did try very hard to please us and I know it was hard for them to find the crew that were still able to animate. It was a dying craft at that point in most places. I am glad to be finally able to explain that to someone because it really is the beginning of the end of Arthur. People talk about the drop in quality from one season to the next but this was the reason or how it began.

DL: Yeah, I didn't really like those seasons because the animation was often stiff at times.Why didn't you try Carbunkle Cartoons in Vancouver? They still did traditional and it was run by Bob Jacques who worked with John Kricfalusci.

GB:People complain even more about the seasons done in Flash.Like I said we were not looking to replace AKOM with another traditional animation company, we were testing companies to do it digitally in Flash or ToonBoom. Animation Services just ignored that and did it traditionally for the same price. What we were paying was never very high for Arthur and now we are looking at a drastic reduction in money to do the show. Everyone coming along kept saying it would be the last season anyway.

OPLA is the #1 show in 84 countries right now. I havnt been this happy about One Piece in a long time. Its just so nice that a show you love is getting some deserved attention.

I see a lot of posts where the writer is like "I couldnt get past rhe first episode." And or "This movie is trash"

And people are intitled to their opinions. But what saddens me is that sometimes I feel like its force hate. Like they hate that they like something from something they orginally didn't like. I get it its scarry to like other things or new things. I was like that when I was younger too. I refused to watch anything else other than Sailor Moon. I didnt care to try anything else and 'hated' anything else for a long time. I was afrid to think something else was good because I didnt want to let go. Than finally I gave other things a shot. And if anyone else feels that way, I hope that you will grow too. Stay up one night and watch something random. It doesnt have to be popular. Thats what I did.

Anyway. I've seen also posts of fans who were not OP fans and even people who dont like anime watch this series and are enjoying it. It amazes me that one series that started off I feel like low on the potum toll grew to such massive lengths and did such an onpact on the world. When I first started to like OP no one knew of it or liked it. I was the only one buying the DVDs that anytime a new one came out the girl at FYE put it aside and waited for ne to ask if I was buying it. LOL that was back when Funi first got the rights to it. Like seriously though other than a couple online friends I was the only one in my home town group of friends that watched it and enjoyed it. Now my 11 year old Nephew is watching it! How times have changed haha.

What does it mean when editors say they’re looking to acquire more this year? I thought they were always supposed to be acquiring as much as possible, but is that wrong? Is there a range of number of books they’re supposed to acquire?

I''m sure every publishing house is different, and every editor within that publishing house has different expectations, etc. But for sure, "Acquiring as many books as possible" is not the brief. In fact, just acquiring books is not their job -- it's not even most of their job, or MUCH of their job. MOST of their job is working on the books that have already been acquired, right?

A newer/younger editor is starting as an assistant, doing all the admin, helping more senior editors on their books-- they might technically be able to acquire books, but they would only have the time to do maybe a couple a year in between all the other stuff they have on their plates.

Once they get more experience under their belts, stop doing so much grunt work and start working on their own projects, they can probably add a few more books, but they will also probably add some other projects that they inherit from editors who leave, or that are assigned to them. (Like, somebody has to deal with putting out new editions of backlist franchises and whatnot -- editors who are working on putting out, I don't know, a scratch-and-sniff Clifford book or a line of lift-the-flap Richard Scarry books, those are books that they aren't acquiring but still are working on and taking up their time.)

Finally, a more senior editor who has passed the Clifford Baton to the next young person and is working on pretty much ONLY their own projects might have their hands pretty full just publishing the next books from their existing authors. (Not to mention the fact that if you are in a senior position, you now have more meetings and managing OTHER people).

So -- yeah, there's probably a number of books that any given editor wants to (and literally would have time to) work on in per year / season. Some of those slots are already taken, either by projects they are given or new projects from existing authors. Filling the rest of those slots with great acquisitions would be the goal. If an editor has acquired lightly in the past, and then things get taken off their plate or whatever, they may have more slots available. (If they acquired too much in the past, or things got ADDED to their plate, they might have fewer slots available).

Nickname: Yeen Queen

Age: late 30’s

Kenna is a hyena girl, with big burly paws on hands and feet and long forearms resembling a hyena’s long forelimbs.  He claws are rust colored and her paw pads are black. She has stripes similar to a striped hyena but is larger and burlier more like a spotted hyena.    She cackles when she laughs.  Short at just 5’ 3” but hefty at 140 lb.  suits her well.  Short so she can hide in most places but a little too bulky for things like under furniture or in air vents.  She’s shy and well mannered.  Preferring to keep people at a distance she lets only a few select in.  Faceless, Billie, Bynx, Kjevet and Pinkie can call her a friend.  She’s loyal and puts friends and family before her.  She’s hard to get to know, too many people stabbing her in the back or just abandoning her has left their scars on her.

Bi-polar depression and ADHD make their home in her head, making it rather crowded up there.  He thoughts race all the time and often she can’t sleep because of it.  She’s on medications which help but sometimes depression and mania visit her and leave her on unsteady ground.  Her girlfriend Paige helps her tremendously, always a steady hand for her to grip.  Her ADHD leaves her unable to focus well and leaves her constantly under stimulated or overstimulated with little in between.  Work can be difficult because of this.  Despite this she exceeds at work and has become a strong dependable office worker.  He coworkers can rely on her with no problems.  This sometimes leaves her with a little more to do than she can manage, and she gets riled up.  A quick walk tends to help with the anxiety and then she can parse things out and assign each task a time. 

Her down time is taken up by baking shows, crafting, her PC, video games, and music.  Baking shows, such as the Great British Bake Off and Halloween Baking Championship are her favorite.  Crimes shows figure heavily in her queue as well.  In terms of crafting, she loves learning new things.  Currently trying crochet, she has done embroidery, worked with polymer clay, paints, draws traditionally and digitally, makes cards, creates collages, sews by hand, and much more.  She went to school for Graphic Design but burned out and dropped it in her third year. 

She has obsessions that tend to be intense and long, going for months to a couple years.  She’s gone through fandoms like none other.  But some stick with her like Hellsing OVA, FullMetal Alchemist, The Witcher, Call of Duty: Modern warfare 2&3, Marvel, Bleach, and BJDs.  She also obsesses over bands from time to time.  She collects everything she can, official and fan made.  Her room is cluttered with keychains, badges, stickers, figurines, books, and art of her obsessions.  She does have multiple BJDs and likes taking them out for photos.  She shares this on Tumblr and Discord.  When the lore is thin or non-existent she loves making head canons.  Even for background characters who have 30 seconds of screen time.  Her interests can take a toll on her wallet and sometimes she makes an unwise choice in her money spending.

Her obsessions even go into her crafts, she’ll be really into embroidery only to fall out of it within months with projects unfinished and even not started.  Currently it’s crochet and digital drawing. 

She loves reading and has more books than bookshelf space and stacks live around her room.  Mainly non-fiction lives on her shelves, she does have fan made books and comics/manga.  Childhood books also litter her shelves, things like her Richard Scarry Tri-Language first word book and the tales of Beatrix Potter. 

Music is on almost 24/7 with her.  Listening to anything with few exceptions, Kenna takes in new music like a sponge.  Death Metal, DDR soundtracks, OSTs, Rock, Folk, Pop, Metal, Alternative, Punk, Emo, Classical, Country, Dubstep, Indie, J-Pop, Techno and Hip-Hop are just a few genres she’s collected.  It makes for interesting times when listening to music with her, ANYTHING can come on at any time.  Eclectic at best. 

Video games are another thing that hold her attention during her down time.  She started playing young on the NES and SNES.  Frogger and Super Mario to Spyro and crash on the PlayStation.  Zelda, Donkey Kong, and Super Mario Party on the N64.  Then to the Xbox with Assassin’s Creed, Bioshock, Dead Space, Epic Mickey, and Munch’s Odyssey.  The PS4 came next with DOOM 2016, DOOM Eternal, and Dragon Age: Inquisition for her favorites but also Spyro Remastered, and The Outer Worlds. 

She used to play the Elder Scrolls: Skyrim on the PC in her college years with keyboard and mouse now she can play on PC with controller.  Hundreds of hours have gone into Skyrim and it still remains a favorite.  Now on her PC she can mod the game and boy does she have fun doing that.  PC gaming has become more prevalent in her life since Paige built her a computer.  Now she’s making her own PC, she has the parts but iffy on the building of it. 

Both DOOM’s followed her to computer as well as Bioshock Remastered, Assassin’s Creed (1 and Syndicate), Fable 2&3,  and Dragon Age: Inquisition.  The Game of Life, The Stanley Parable, Anna, Spore, Amnesia the Dark Descent, Skyrim, and Among the Sleep are computer games she’s since picked up on the PC.  Soon she will have DOOM: The Dark Ages. 

Pokémon is the biggest game in her life.  Started with Fire Red with the Gameboy she has almost all the generations of games.  A couple generations are missing, but she has a full and complete pokédex on Pokémon home with the all the Pokémon thus far released.  She is currently working on getting shinies, she most often plays Pokémon Go now and tries to get walks in to hatch eggs.  She uses the Pokémon Home to wonder trade.  She is currently finishing up Pokémon Scarlet the Indigo Disk. 

SecondLife is another game she’s picked up on the PC.  She loves making avatars and then writing Bio’s for them.  She tends to stick to home and a few shops, not really going out with other players.  Too much toxicity and drama. 

Kenna is shy even online, so she rarely interacts with anyone, only leaving quips in the tags of Tumblr, she follows and likes posts like a true lurker.  She tries to break out of this and comment on posts but gets so embarrassed she often deletes the comment before she can send it.  She does leave reviews on purchased items from smaller companies/people run businesses.  She takes it to heart to leave reviews so they can get more customers and to let the person/people know she appreciates their work and time. 

She is in a relationship with Paige.  Although she is asexual, she has a romantic relationship with Paige and loves showering her in affection and gifts, sometimes handmade, sometimes little trinkets the remind Kenna of Paige. 

Fears being abandoned, clowns, and heights.  Clowns have been a phobia since she was a small child.  Heights was developed over the ages.  She cannot stand when people stop a movie to emphasize the fact there is a clown. 

She currently has cats, 6 of them in fact.  Two orange tabbies, a tabby, a Bombay, a seal point coat, and black long hair.  She originally had only 2 but then a cat left her kitten on her porch and never came back.  The others were ferals she fed outside and Trapped and Neutered/Spayed.  Soon the summer came and they showed signs of heat stroke so she slowly brought them in with sardines and lots of patience.  So now the total is 6.  One has FIV and is living in the master bedroom to keep him away from the other cats.  She is a huge lover of animals of any kind.

Lives on her own in her own house with Paige.  Two stories with a nice loft and a good sized living room, two bedrooms along with the master bedroom.  It is spacious and gives the cats the room they need to keep things civil between them all.  Many cat towers adorn the house upstairs and down.  The house looks like it was built for cats, with steps on the walls for them to get around as well as a catio in the backyard. 

She loves going to places like Zia Records or a mall with Paige.  She and Paige have started a vinyl record collection, small for now, they keep adding to it from Zia and bands’ websites.

Truffles's "Fat" Problem

1 -It was a lovely day in Marzipan… Son(What If I Stayed & OVA Shapeshift)is skateboarding down the sidewalk, doing kick flips as he has a bag of groceries but he really doesn't do things for Mung Daal, the GOD AWFUL chief of all time… As he is skateboarding, he sees two familiar characters… Truffles & Kanna the Shiny Pikachu. They have new clothes as well as Son is happy to see them. He would talk to them but… Truffles and Kanna started to sing together. “🎵We got a little junk-junk in the trunk-trunk! A little booty-booty, so fresh and juicy, mmm!~ We shake our rump-rump, and we'll do a little BUMP-BUMP!🎵” As they bumped their rumps extremely hard, they did a powerful shockwave and made the town shake but… The buildings collapsed and got destroyed! Son is already but a little shocked about their power that Truffles and Kanna had. “Oops…” Truffles said as Kanna started to whistle quietly but the two females bolted out of there but Son followed them.

2 - In the kitchen, Mung Daal is chopping up the cucumbers but Chowder was about to eat one but Mung slapped his hand. “No! Bad kitty!” Mung said to Chowder but he crossed his arms and got grumpy at Mung but Truffles and Kanna finally arrived back without any groceries? That's strange… “Oh hi, Truffles! How was the trip to the store?” Mung asked his wife from his normal attitude but he didn't know that Kanna was there next to her “Oh it was fine, yep yup yeah, it was fine.” Truffles acted but… “Except for the part where we used our giant tush and smashed the CITY!!!” Truffles yelled out in panic and Kanna panicked with her. “You did what and who now?” Mung was so dumbfounded and Chowder was super lost of what she said, Son came in the kitchen just in time as Truffles and Kanna looked at him. “Son! My sweet little friend! Be honest and tell me the truth… Have me and Kanna have a little… LARGE in the Barge?!” Truffles and Kanna showed and pointed their rumps that quickly but… Mung put his hand on Chowder's head. “Chowder, take over…”

3 - He lowered Chowder all the way down because he doesn't want to hear this. “Uhh… No?” Mung said in confusion but scared to fully answer but Truffles flew up to her husband. “Is that a question?” Truffles said as she is worried about that statement but for Mung… “N-N-No..” Mung said in fear. “So we've put on weight.” Truffles said to Mung answered quickly too. “I didn't say that.” Mung said. “We need to go on a diet?” Truffles said that quickly but Mung answered quickly as well. “I didn't say that” Mung said the same thing but Truffles needed to know… “Come on! Out with it!!” Truffles burst out and grabbed her husband's face. “Are we… Fffffffat?” Truffles said slowly if it's true or not. “Fat? Nah. Son and I don't think you and your friend are fat, Truffles.” Chowder's words made the two feel better and Son totally agreed with them as he gave a thumbs up for both of them. “But Mung thinks you're fat!” He said and got bonked.

4 - Truffles and Kanna was….PISSED as they cracked their knuckles and started to walk up to Mung… "Ohhhh HONEY!!!!" Truffles yelled in rage and grabbed her husband's throat and her steam came out of her ears and Kanna's face is super pissed and her red dots on her cheeks started to spark. "You know, Mung… You should never tell women fat… But now… YOU will face the wrath of getting hurt feels like…" Kanna's voice is so cold and dark��scarry… "Chowder…Take your friend upstairs and stay there… My female friend and I is going teach Mung a LESSON!!!!" Truffles and Kanna started to beat up Mung as Chowder took Son upstars to his room and stays there until that problem is over…
