i feel like my one and only true thing I'm petty about when it comes to destiny is uldren and crow. crow and uldren. they are not the same person. they are literally two different people. crow's entire arc revolves around how they are two different people. crow talks about uldren in third person. they are not the same guy. yes, he takes responsibility for uldren's actions, as he should, but they. are. not. the. same. person.
and yet so many people still group them into one guy. they call crow uldren and uldren crow. they call him both names when it's just one of them. and im so tired. im so tired. that's like saying clovis bray and banshee are the same person. and i know most of the time, people are just talking about both guys but end up grouping them into one automatically - but it still annoys me so much because. they are not the same guy. i feel genuinely insane. crow isn't uldren. please. please. please-
#this is not an attack on people who do/have done this!! if you have and I've seen ur post then dw because i don't remember who u are lmao#and like even if i did. i don't wanna attack anyone. im just expressing my thoughts for shits and giggles.#and also to see if there's anyone out there who feels as strongly as i do about this#it's a silly thing. it's not that deep. don't take it personally. i just allow myself to be annoying about this one thing#cause I'm arguably the chillest person in here when it comes to. everything else#sorry im just a little scared of getting stoned to death for this lmao#destiny 2#crow destiny#uldren sov

New wish dragon lore, but more importantly new canon queer characters in D2! This is in the "Second Gift" chapter of the "Gifts and Bargains" lore book (it's from the Starcrossed exotic mission). And we get this banger line when Taranis is showing Riven around his Black Garden lair:
That details about Uldren and his partner! Jolyon and Uldren were in a relationship! Of course, it doesn't specify who Uldren's partner is, but we know Jolyon went to the Black Garden with Uldren and with the recent dialogue between Crow and Petra, where Petra is kind of a wingman for these two, yeah, I think it's confirmed.
Not only are they officially canon, but this also means Uldren/Crow is bisexual like Mara! Because Uldren was in a relationship with Jolyon and Crow had feelings for Amanda. I've always assumed he was bi (possibly pan when it wasn't confirmed if Mara was bi or pan), but it's nice to get confirmation! 💙💜🩷
Add that to my list of D2 characters who I think are bi/pan getting confirmed to be as such: Drifter, Mara, and now Uldren/Crow. Can Bungie confirm that Andal and Cayde were hella pan and very much gay for each other next?? The Final Shape is coming up with memory/ghost Cayde, soooo....perfect opportunity
#season of the wish#Uldren and Jolyon are definitely queer for each other#Now that Amanda died#Will Crow and Jolyon be a thing again?#With Petra being their wingman lol#Petra shouting over the comms “just kiss already!”#Uldren Sov#Crow#jolyon till#Mara Sov#Petra Venj#destiny lore#🩷💜💙#bisexual#bi gang#🌈#destiny#destiny 2#destiny the game#d2#chatter

anyway like eight hours ago I was thinking abt rainbow Bridge because I saw a pic of You Know Who* in my phone and it's insane that so few things have ever come close to the feelings that "your wish is... to kill me" after the guy whose life you destroyed lights your cig in the middle of the apocalypse you're trying to cause and he's trying to prevent -> tricking him into killing you bc you think that's his Wish but he loses the will to prevent the apocalypse afterward bc he just wanted to be noticed enough to die at your hands and now he has nothing left to protect and all the audience hears of those final moments is "I... you..."** produces in me. what do you meaaaaaaaaan this isn't everyone's baseline. ripped my heart right out of my chest which is, coincidentally, how seishiro died like a fucking fool. ten years and one dead twin too late bitch oh my god not even getting a vampire arc in the multiverse au makes up for that it makes me CRAZY

One thing I adore about Destiny is that not only is it a game about love, it’s a game about love in its many forms and it’s not afraid to show how messy, yet rewarding, that can be (loose thoughts incoming).
Familial, platonic, agape, romantic, it’s all there and often the lines between them are blurred, creating such a strong feeling of tenderness that transcends and changes throughout the story.
There‘s love that persists for an eternity because the individuals are so long lived and love that persists for an eternity because it’s effects ripple through time, even long after the lovers have perished. Erianna and Wei Ning come to mind for it was Erianna‘s love that changed everything between humanity and the hive.
There‘s conventional romantic relationships like Saint and Osiris (though their passionate fight to be together goes beyond what can even be considered typical), then there are relationships that go beyond what’s customary that are just as intimate, like Drifter and Eris or Ikora and Chalco. So much value is placed on relationships that aren’t standard, allowing for a wide variety of lovers to be seen.
Whether it’s by birth or by choice, Destiny is all about the heart tearing obstacles that comes with loving family. From the Osmiums to the Sovs to the worm gods to even the light and dark metaphorically, Destiny is filled to the brim with characters struggling to love their family through the damage inflicted upon them and their differences. They endure so much pain and work through so much interpersonal and intrapersonal conflict just for the chance to love and be loved, showing that their connections are something worth bleeding over to them.
There is also such a prominent theme of an agape (which is usually used in the Christian setting to describe the love of a god for its creations, but I think the definition of it being an unconditional, selfless love that applies to every being fits Destiny much more) love with the Traveler and it’s reasoning for why it acts the way it does. Its desire to uplift, its attachment and sympathy for the Witness and it’s people, the way it describes the sheer honor it feels to even be present for the existence of life, its endless hope, its sacrifices, its desire for people to do right by others, its respect for autonomy and free will, it‘s all just so moving and heartfelt. It’s loves existence so dearly, in the best way it can, and suffering so immensely for that love altered the course of the universe forever.
Destiny is also not afraid to show attempts at love that have gone awry. Maya and Chioma, the Precursors‘ reasoning behind creating the Witness, Calus‘ constant pursuit of admiration, Eramis and House of Salvation, everything Xivu Arath has going on in Heresy, and much more, all prove that even when executed wrong, even when harmful and/or ignorant, believing that they are being „loving“ and the desire to be loved is still a large motivator for many actions in the game.
Finding purpose in commitments to others is a core part of these characters and the pain they cause forces the audience to consider important questions like „what is true love?“, „how can we love better?“, „when does the desire to be loved become unhealthy?“ These questions force the audience to ask WHY love is so important to Destiny‘s plot and makes them evaluate how they bring Destiny‘s messages into how they love in their own lives.
Self love is important to Destiny as well with so many plot lines involving healing, recovery, and dealing with the past. There are characters in this game that transform with time and grow into people they didn’t even think they could become, inspiring audiences to love themselves and embrace growth that’ll nurture them. Most Destiny fans I know can certainly name a moment or character that helped them overcome a struggle that kept their spirit barren and I know I can describe how self love in Destiny stirred a similar love within myself.
There is countless examples of love between friends, love between strangers, love between old enemies; love is so abundant everywhere you look in Destiny, even amongst all the devastation, that to remove it would rob Destiny of its very identity.
Destiny is about love. It’s about loving incorrectly, loving against all odds, loving to heal, loving to protect, loving spouses, loving your people, loving yourself enough to change, loving the universe, loving existence, loving enough to sacrifice for it, loving irrationally, loving enough to correct the way you love.
Destiny is about how proper love will change everything, you must simply encourage it to grow.

Valus Forge: We know what the Iron Lords did. A lot.
Banshee-44: Used to be Clovis Bray. And also to blame for Telesto adjustments, probably.
Lord Shaxx: The warlords weren't much better than the Iron Lords. No, not even him.
Mara Sov: We Know What You Did.
Savathūn: We Know What You Did Too.
Oryx: You Too Bitchboy.
Luzaku: You've done no wrong darling dear, we love you (respectfully)
Rhulk: I don't need to explain it.
Nezarec: Definitely don't need to explain it.
The Witness: rEALLY?
Eramis: Feel like I'm gonna get flamed for this one but let's be honest, she hasn't been much better than us even if she redeemed herself somewhat.
Saint-14: Am I allowed to say that his Crusades were just a straight up genocide? Also torture.

fuck I'm thinking about the last page of unveiling again and how it's literally The Point of The Video Game Destiny condensed into like maybe 8 paragraphs
like THAT'S IT!!!!! THAT'S WHAT WE LEARNED!!!!! THAT'S THE POINT OF IT ALL!!!!!!!
the interesting thing about this passage is that you absolutely can just replace the word "Darkness" with the word "Fascism" in the last graf there but the Darkness in Destiny is NOT synonymous with fascism. Mara Sov is absolutely NOT saying that "a balanced world needs a little fascism in it to keep things honest". In fact, that kind of thinking is what allows for unchecked, thriving Darkness in the real world.
No, the Darkness is not fascism. The Darkness is Memory, which is co-opted by fascism. "Remember when life was great?" "Don't you want to just live in that great moment forever?" That's exactly what the Witness offers, in the end: to be frozen in time in the exact moment of your greatest joy, dead but never dying, trapped in amber and never permitted to live again. Because to live would be to acknowledge the impermanence of that moment, the reality that existence is not and cannot be one single glorious moment. One Final Shape, you might say.
What is it that Riven said? "Even paradise is a prison if you can't leave." She was talking about a literal paradise that was a literal prison for her but that's okay, the metaphor is good too.
I think that Destiny thinks that Memory is necessary and good for humans to have. But Memory is not an ideology. Memory does not grant the power to end suffering. Memory isn't even real. Not the way Life -- existence -- mortality -- Light -- is real.
Anyway that's why Destiny is anti-fascist. There are also a lot of other reasons why Destiny is anti-fascist like the Worm Gods and the Hive and Sword Logic as an extended metaphor for late-stage capitalist society but that's for a different post. Plus someone else who's better at writing than me has probably already said everything I would've said about that.
#unveiling remains my favorite book because of the way it just...lays it all out#kady's thoughts#destiny 2#the final shape#“the choice to act as if we lived in a better world...” is such a raw fucking line it just resonates inside me

Hot Take Time!
I think the breakthrough revelation that the Sonic fanbase had about the series' reception during the 2010's, where full-force sincerity in its stories was mocked for being cringe and willingness to stand out in both a gameplay and artistic sense resulted in beloved games being panned retroactively, can be easily applied to FE Engage.
Engage is the most fucking sincere plot the series has had in over a decade. Yes, despite being the guy whose fav FE game is Fates, I think that game was still bogged down by the prospect of following up the blowout success of a game like Awakening and had too many instances of putting in a lot of ideas to see what worked rather than putting the full weight behind a select few core elements.
SoV had the baggage of being a remake while still needing a modern appeal, and ended up with a lot of contradictory aspects. And 3H doesn't know what it wants to be and never did from the ground up.
Engage is different. It wanted to be a grand celebration of 30 years of this great series. It wanted pizazz. It wanted spectacle. It wanted to say "we fucking love this series and we love the fans who supported us."
The characters are flashy and striking to make you remember them. The music is bombastic, with a wide variety of styles so anyone can find a favorite track. The presentation is beautiful, with great visuals and phenomenal sound design. New uber powerful mechanics balanced out by incredible map design, supberb flow, and responsive game feel.
But the sincerity shines brightest with its narrative. The core messages are well written!
Sometimes knowing when to retreat is better than foolhardy bravery. It's always worth considering someone's background and feelings before casting them away. There's never a single easy solution to your problems, and if you think there is, you'll end up repeating the same mistakes. You can find family with anyone, and are not bound solely by those who you're born to. To live authentically as yourself is beautiful and should be celebrated.
The game believes all of those things to a degree which really hasn't been seen since the series was on the brink of death.
But that sincerity was treated as unpalatable, cringe, and plain awful.
The fandom for a series that routinely and infamously has terrible armor designs now suddenly throws a fit because "flower girl has silly dress" or "these characters have face paint/tattoos."
The single laziest form of criticism for FE casts that has permeated the community since Awakening released, that being "the cast is one note tropes that have no personality or development outside of them", came back in full fucking force with Engage.
And it's pretty damn sad. In my opinion, sincerity shouldn't be mocked. Sometimes, you should take a minute and ask yourself "Is it bad, or is it just not my thing? Am I writing off an entire cast's writing because I don't like some character designs? Do I have personal preferences that aren't being met in this instance, and should I learn to grapple with saying that instead of just writing off the product as fundamentally terrible or, at best, half-assed?"
At some point, looking inward and considering community wide commonalities has to be recognized as a factor for why products are received the way they are, rather than just laying blame at the devs' feet for "not making a good product that people wanted." After all, word of mouth is the reason why FE even got this far, considering FE1 was effectively a sleeper hit because people who played it spread the word despite mixed reviews.
TL-DR, Engage isn't cringe, YOU ARE!!!

so the french verb for "missing" someone (manquer) is like ours in that it is also used in context we use the word "miss" (it also fills a role like "lack"), one can "manque" a flight or an appointment, it can mean to fail at something, or to be not-there, missing, etc, BUT in the interpersonal context, the construction is backwards from ours! if I miss you, "tu me manques" (you lack me. if the direct object is a pronoun french is SOV). which FEELS backwards but sort of makes more sense? if someone "is missing", theyre not there, they are the one doing the being-not-there. like something can be lacking something else, or it can be DOING the being-lacked. and just like english, manquer can fill either role. so in "tu me manques", rather than concieving of it as "i am lacking you" (as in "i miss you") its more like "you are lacking from me". kinda neat!
this is part of a general thing french does where they like to use state-verbs. we have state-verbs (verbs that by doing mean youre in a particular state, or have a particular trait), presumably every language does. but theyre everywhere in french

hi oldenglishtextposts, I've been thinking of learning old english because I have a book for learning it. before I jump in, and I am sure this has been asked but I cannot find it—how similar is the sentence structure to english? from what I've seen translated its pretty similar but Idk also.
hi!
Old English has pretty flexible word order. Modern English largely communicates what a noun is doing in the sentence (ie whether it is the subject or object) through the order of the words. We use subject verb object (SVO) by default. Old English does this by adding suffixes to words, what's known as case marking. This allows sentences to be in lots of different layouts.
My translations generally stick closely to modern word order, which is completely grammatical in OE, but just not the default like it is in ME. I do this largely out of laziness, but I also think it helps the average tumblr user to see the connections between the languages and be a bit more engaged. SVO, VSO, and SOV are by far the most common. In poetry, you'll sometimes find weirder ones that are needed to keep the alliteration and rhythm correct.
For example, the first three lines of Beowulf go:
Hwæt, wē Gārdena in ġeārdagum/þēodcyninga þrym ġefrūnon/hū ðā æþelingas ellen fremedon.
Keeping the same word order, this says:
So, we spear-Danes in olden days/kings' might heard of/how the princes strength performed.
This probably isn't too hard for you to parse, and the nouns have case markers that make some of the relationships more explicit. (there are plenty of nuances there that I am skipping over for simplicity's sake) One thing that can be confusing is that þrym and ellen are both what are called strong masculine nouns, which look the same as both subject and object. Usually, you can use the context around the words to figure out what's going on; here, there aren't any other nouns that could objects, so you can safely assume that the only ones that could be objects probably are.
Of course, making this a nice poetic translation is it's own challenge. Here's a translation by Chickering, who's my go-to for straightforward 1:1 translation:
Listen! We have heard of the glory of the Spear-Danes/in the old days, the kings of tribes—/how noble princes showed great courage!
#I do generally switch SVO to SOV if the object is a pronoun#because that ordering is much more common and it always feels weird to me if I don't#anyway i didn't mean for this to be so long.#but i <3 blabbing#i hope this helps?#resources#ask

Besties, I need help. Especially people who have a lot of reach on twitter.
Two of my friends had their Destiny names forcibly changed at the roughly the same time. Their Destiny names were "bisexual mara sov" and "trans king oryx." They just logged in and got a pop-up saying that for some "crossplay" reasons their names were changed to a default Guardian####. None of them are using crossplay. Both are on Steam only, if that's important.
One of them posted to Bungie forums and got this reply:
Both of my friends suspect that they were mass reported. Obviously falsely. Their names are not breaking any rules and are in fact canonical statements about the characters. They always play together so if some homophobe sees them, they would report both, so it would make sense why this happened to them at the same time, possibly (the other option is that there was a wave of forced name changes happening recently that caught them both, but for all intents and purposes, their names should not be subject to change).
This upset both of my friends quite a lot. It means there's enough homophobes out there falsely reporting their names. It's also upsetting to think that these reports were reviewed and then accepted. I genuinely don't think there was a manual review. If there was, I think everyone would like to know which rules this is breaking and why.
Another friend tried raising this issue on the official Destiny 2 reddit, but his thread was not approved by moderators because of "politics":
Thanks reddit! /s My friend also messaged the moderators, but to no avail.
The only thing that remains is trying to raise this issue with the community managers somehow, but clearly this isn't possible on reddit, so we want to try twitter. Unfortunately with the way twitter works, unless you have the reach, nobody will see it. One other friend literally made a twitter account for this to tag the Destiny 2 Team, but as expected her attempt has zero visibility. These are her two tweets. I'm not sure what would be better; to just boost this existing tweet or to make new tweets tagging Destiny 2 Team, but if anyone knows and thinks they could help, feel free to do either!
I don't expect much to happen, but I would like to at least try bringing some awareness to this because it's quite upsetting if homophobes can just mass report a completely innocent name, while absolutely gross names are allowed and visible every day in the game. It's also not a good look if these mass reports are acted on without review, and they are worse if they were acted on WITH review.
A lot of people have usernames that are about in-game characters; I think a lot of us would like to get some information on why these aren't allowed anymore. Both of my friends have had them for years.
Anyway, if anyone knows something they could do or has the ability to get this visible somehow, it would be appreciated!
#destiny 2#bungie#not hoping for much but i want to try at least#we thought that maybe the 'sexual' part in 'bisexual' was somehow flagged. but there's no explanation for 'trans king oryx'#is there some new rule about not using in-game characters in usernames? because it doesn't seem like it#given the names i'm seeing around. literally saw 'mara sov's bath water' yesterday. despair#this is so bad because both of them would often have the most wholesome interactions with people in-game because of their names#a few months back someone approached them with the pride emote and then asked if oryx is really trans#and then they had a bonding moment in the tower about it#we get so many screenshots of them experiencing this. 'random people show up and do the pride emote at us!'#and this happening on pride month? homophobia

Yes I'm pretty sure this is his VA reading a cheesecake recipe (not even a script, I think someone took the audio and put Lukas to it because of the reading just sounding like Lukas.)
This video has been such a highlight to me that it's been the sole occupant of that discord channel since 2021 (which is the year I first played SOV)
wait. what is the lukas cheesecake reference. i HAVE to know
I AM GLAD YOU ASKED
Because I have the video link that pretty much explains it kept in a channel of a private image-dump discord I do not use for anything else

#It's such a silly thing and it deserves to be part of the fe fandom hall of fame#Alongside that classic livestream clip of alm and celica's vas playing sov in which we get the good ol' “shut up alm” line#always love to see people loving this game as much as i do#<- I may have only been here for a relatively short time. Thing's I'd put in the Australian version of Ghosts if I was making it
If you haven't heard, an Australian version of the BBC's popular show Ghosts has been confirmed! So far, there is a finished UK version, and ongoing (I believe?) USA version, German and French versions in production, and now the upcoming Australian version. (Now I know there's a bit of information out there already about the setup of the show but I haven't been able to access that so I know nothing about it aside from it exists.) So, as an Australian, here's what I'd love to see in it:
An Aboriginal ghost from thousands of years ago as well as an Aboriginal ghost from the last 30ish years - remind people that Aboriginal Australians are the oldest ongoing culture in the world
The mansion to have not always been a family home. Maybe like a boarding school or something, with some ghosts who were students there (or maybe teachers, as actors playing students would age much more noticeably. Actually a headmaster could be a good Fanny/ Hetty counterpart)
If not that, then maybe it's on a big bit of farmland - very Australian. Could let the livings discover news ghosts throughout the show as they explore all the nooks and crannies of the vast place
A different take on the main pair of livings would be cool. Maybe best friends, or house mates, or a sapphic couple?
Remember that ghost pigeon from the UK version? I want ghosts of extinct animals. Give me a megafauna kangaroo ghost PLEASE
If it's set in Victoria, some gold miners! There were a lot of Chinese gold miners too, so a Chinese ghost could be a chance to remind the audience that Australia is a multicultural society, and has been for a few hundred years
If in Victoria, and if there are gold miner ghosts, them finding out about Sovereign Hill would be a delight. (I say this even as my best friend's family are higher-ups at Sov Hill) the ghosts pointing out historical inaccuracies would be funny
A ghost who says he was part of the Kelly Gang (Ned Kelly's crew) a la how Black Pete from Our Flag Means Death talks about working with Blackbeard. Our claimed Kelly Gang member really only met Ned Kelly once, or was in the gang for only a week before dying in an embarrassing, unrelated way - Humphrey Bone core
A Kiwi ghost that they all ignore and shut down. Maybe they all talk about him like he's a lameass and a prick and all, then the livings finally meet him (he's been banished to a far corner of the property) and he's a decorated, brave ANZAC soldier who's very kind of heart and wants nothing but peace with the other ghosts. But the ghosts all hate him for being Kiwi (uniting the variety of ghosts in the show with a common "enemy"). Not to make fun of ANZACs or our war history, but more to poke fun at the way we hate Kiwis
Obligatory arrow-through-the-neck ghost was a camp counsellor who was shot by a kid who was on school camp with his primary school. Everyone has horrific injuries from school camp stories, so it could be a recent ghost and the living woman saying like "yeah and I once got a fishing hook in my hand on camp" "I once burnt myself trying to cook damper" and the counsellor saying "yeah well i once got shot and killed on a school camp, so."
FOOTY. Even as a Norflag truther, a ghost of a North Melbourne player from the early 1900s (when they were doing well) watching how badly they're going now would be a bit of fun
A ghost who died in the Great Emu War. The ghost: "I was in a war once" The living: "Oh my god are you an ANZAC? I had no idea" The ghost: "... not quite."
We have a great history of taking the piss out of our politicians, and also just not caring about them at all, so a Julian (from the UK version) counterpart would be very well received
KYLIE MINOGUE CAMEO (she was mentioned and cameod in the UK version)
And obviously, some cheeky references to the other versions
But whatever the show ends up to be, I'm really looking forward to it!
#lmao this ended up way longer than i expected#australia#bbc ghosts#cbs ghosts#ard ghosts#wdr ghosts#die geister#australian ghosts#ofmd#megafauna#ned kelly#australian tv#kylie minogue#french ghosts
