As promised here are part 4 and 5. I wanted to save the two heaviest and darkest ones for last and of course there are some differences with the other ones:

Obito:

This part doesn’t start with the same text as the others, implying that Obito only "shows up" when Kakashi is at his complete worst.

The red string coming from Kakashi's Sharingan is implied to be the red string of fate (I couldn’t resist) but it’s also all around him (and around his neck) with no hope to untangle it.

Obito is the only one who has a positive effect on him. This is because Obito is the reason why he kept going during that stage of his life.

Kakashi's face here is not only visible, but there's also a close-up to his eye.

You can probably guess which was the promise that Kakashi made to Obito, that he broke in the past :)

Rin:

The text on Rin's part is also different because Kakashi percieves her much more differently than the rest, just through feeling alone.

The comic starts directly with a close-up to his face and eyes, to his soul.

The wide circle on the panel at the bottom is a reference to her wound.

Because Rin's tone of voice changes depending on the day (and his state of mind), I chose not to show her face to avoid any hint to her emotions.

I have decided I am in fact desperate enough to write it myself sssoooo who's interested in brainstorming/editing/beta reading etc with me?

I started rewatching Naruto recently and my brain is filled with character study (thank you so much @meowticta for giving me the name of that tag/trope) of Kakashi exploring mental and physical disability and his relationships with people. I was thinking ANBU time.

I also want to do an iruka x kakashi thing but not like a main plot, I want it to be mostly about kakashi and while he finds ways to get closer to people he finds iruka being close in a different way. Or maybe kkiru being a totally separate fanfic so I can fully focus on the character study aspect.

I don't have a lot of ideas for specific plot but I know what I want to explore.

Obviously he's traumatized and in this time would be severely depressed, probably suffering from ptsd type symptoms, I'd like to include psychosis because I personally experience psychosis and its important to me that it's represented well.

I also see a lot of parallels to physical disability in him. His chakra depletion is a very fantasy equivalent of a chronic fatigue disorder, burning energy very very quickly and then need to recover for a long time. That's something a lot of physically disabled people relate to including me.

I think I want it to be 7-13 longer chapters with a cohesive story. Anyway if anyone is interested please feel free to reply or message me! Or if you don't want to continuously help but you have an idea you're more than welcome to just give that.

I'd also love to talk to partially blind people on how to write that. I know he's not technically blind but he can't use one eye like 90% of the time so I want to talk to people who are partially blind on how that can feel.

Parts 4 and 5

I have kind of taken this project as sort of like three different art studies in one (color, lineart and Kakashi's character).

It is set on Kakashi's ANBU era, where he was most depressed (and hallucinations were definetly (a common occurance/happening)). He had lost everything and everyone during this stage of his life, which is why I wanted to explore his feelings about every person he lost and how their deaths affected him.

More details about each part that you may have not noticed:

Sakumo:

Kakashi’s face is not fully visible, only Sakumo's.

At the end when he talks about the blood he refers to the floor as "wooden", but he's n the bathroom, actually standing on a tile floor, meaning he's hallucinating that he's in his old house right where he found his father.

Minato and Kushina:

They are both intentionally blurry, because Kakashi was not involved in their deaths in any way at all, unlike the other ones. He never saw them die. He just learned that they were gone.

This is also why he can’t reach them. No matter how much he runs he could not get there in time to save them, just like his sensei. He can’t go back into the past, either, so he just lost them without saying goodbye, only seeing what they left behind.

Minato is on his back in that one panel to represent the emotional distance between him and Kakashi. In canon Minato always seemed to keep a formal sort of work-oriented relationship with his team, because even though he seemed warm he was actually quite far, and he never opened up about himself at all.

Kushina's voice is simply "loud and vibrant", simply energetic, but I chose to make its connotation ambiguous because we never saw her and Kakashi interact in canon and so don’t know how their relationship was like.

In the last panel Kakashi's hand is monster-like, kind of like a certain seven-tailed beast in that one scene, which represents how he believes his influence would horribly corrupt Naruto.

Kakashi:

The color palette on the whole comic is monochromatic except for the blood and Kakashi's sharingan, representing how colorless his life was before he had his precious people with him, especially Obito.

This is the first time Kakashi's face is visible.

The focus on the "white fang" blade also works as a reminder of what will eventually happen if he breaks.

• Naruto’s love becomes all-consuming. His hugs are tight, his hands always on you—your waist, your arm, the small of your back. He needs the reassurance of your presence, needs to feel your warmth under his fingers. His kisses are soft but desperate, like he’s trying to pour all his feelings into every movement, whispering against your lips, “No one can take you from me, Y/N.” You're so bombarded by him that you have no space to ever question it.

His Toxic Obsession

• Shikamaru doesn’t just watch you—he studies you. Every word you say, every nervous habit, every glance you throw at someone else—it’s all meticulously catalogued in his mind. He knows you better than you know yourself, and he uses that knowledge like a weapon. But beneath the darkness, there’s an unsettling tenderness—a quiet devotion that makes you hesitate. “I only do this because I love you,” he says, his voice soft, almost vulnerable. And in those moments, you wonder if he truly believes it. If maybe, somehow, he’s convinced himself that this twisted, obsessive love is what you need.

His Unrelenting Obsession

• Sasuke’s fixation is nothing short of paralyzing. His eyes follow you everywhere, dark and unblinking, like he’s dissecting you piece by piece. Every laugh, every clumsy joke is calculated, a way to draw you closer, to make you trust him. “See? Tobi’s a good boy!” he chirps, his eyes gleaming with something darker than innocence. • As Tobi, he drowns you in affection. He remembers every little thing you like, shows up with thoughtful gifts “just because,” and tells you how much you mean to him at every opportunity. “You’re Tobi’s favourite person! No one else compares!” His voice is light, his tone warm, and it’s easy to feel safe around him. • The switch happens when you least expect it. The moment you cross a line he doesn’t like—talking to someone else for too long, brushing off his affection, or even hinting at distance—the mask shatters. Why does Kakashi wear a mask? HC allowed!

//I don't just have one particular headcannon where the mask is concerned, but a few. I know the larger part of fanon suggest that Kakashi hides his face behind a mask because he greatly resembles his father, and that bothered him after his father lost himself and commited seppūku. He might not have wanted to see his father everytime he looked in the mirrow after the fact, but it can't be the reason for the mask as a whole, since kid Kakashi was seen wearing a mask long before Sakumo was astrocised and buried. Also, if Hatake Sakumo was to blame, then surely Kakashi could have parted with the mask after the Pein attack as a sign of absolution on both parties; but that wasn't the case.

Now for the second Fanon opinion.

In the sporadic spinoff series, 'Rock Lee and his Ninja Pals', it was stated that Kakashi wears the mask to hide the 'nosebleeds' he gets from reading the Icha Icha series all day long - this was said in /jest/ of course, as Kakashi has been wearing the mask before the existence of the adult book series. I think there is some truth in the jest in that the mask serves to hide Kakashi's emotions, however. Though he has the majority of his face hidden, no one can deny that he is one of, if not the most expressive characters in the series.

Enter my opinion / headcanons:-

1. Though he excelled in almost every aspect of being a ninja from a very young age, he struggled with his facial expressions and keeping his true feelings and motives hidden. He thought this would be a hindrance on missions, since a good shinobi was not supposed to show so much emotion. I therefore think it's believable enough to assume that it got to the point where he got overwhelmed with his surroundings as a child, so he wore a mask as it helped to filter out the worst of it. It would explain why he sometimes goes so far as to sleep with the mask as well, since it could contain a scent blocking seal stitched within the fabric.

you stop walking. “no way… no freaking way…”

shikamaru doesn’t stop with you. he keeps walking a few more steps, then turns slightly, hands in his pockets, brows barely lifted.

“…again?”

you don’t answer. you just stand there, staring at your screen, lips trembling.

“i actually tried this time,” you mutter, your voice small. “i didn’t even copy anyone. i studied. i gave up naps. i even skipped watching every new episode on that damn drama on that week.”

shikamaru exhales through his nose. “and still failed.”

you look at him, eyes slightly watery. “what am i doing wrong? am i just… dumb?”

he walks back to you slowly. “no.”

“then why do i keep screwing up?”

he doesn’t answer right away. he just watches you, unreadable, quiet like always. you think he might brush it off, tell you it’s “not a big deal” like he usually does.

instead, he says, “i’ll tutor you.”

you blink. “what?”

“for the remedial. i’ll help you prep.”

“…seriously?”

he shrugs. “don’t want to date someone who keeps crying over easy thing like this.”

you swat his arm. “i’m not crying.”

“yet,” he replies flatly. then, without missing a beat, “but if i do this, you better pay attention. like, actually pay attention.”

you pout. “i do pay attention!”

he looks you dead in the eye. “you study for twenty minutes, then spend the next hour scrolling social media, drawing your ‘math cat’ characters, and pretending it’s part of the process.”

you look away, flustered. “it is part of the process…”

“it’s why you failed.”

you groan. “you’re so mean.”

“no,” he says coolly, starting to walk again. “i’m realistic. you want me to waste my energy teaching you when you’re half-listening? no thanks.”

you jog a bit to catch up, falling back into step beside him. “okay, okay. i’ll be serious this time. i’ll put my phone away. i’ll even print notes. like on actual paper.

“wild concept.”

you glance up at him. his face is still unreadable—bored, detached, like this is all just mildly inconvenient.

but when the silence stretches, he finally mutters, “i don’t want you to keep feeling like this.”

your heart jumps a little.

“feeling like what?”

“…like you’re not good enough.”

you blink. he doesn’t look at you when he says it. he just keeps walking, hands stuffed in his hoodie pocket like none of this matters.

but it does.

you know it does.
