📄 An all-female school, the problem of social expectations on students, a doctor who would do anything to make his daughter succeed...
👧🏻 Woo Seul Gi is an orphan girl with a story that is perhaps more complicated than it seems. It is with her that we go to Seoul to learn about the social problem of using medicines to enhance studying.
👩🏻 Yoo Je I has everything except perhaps a real interpersonal relationship, with her we delve into the corruption that money can bring.
💊 The narration is always quite tense and if you look at it as a social denunciation it makes a lot of sense.
👭🏻😢 If you watch it in the hope of a GL I fear it will disappoint you, apart from a beautiful scene that is not part of the plot, there is no GL. You can ship them all the time but they will not give you anything else, so it is better that you focus on the story.
😔 I found it interesting because I did not know about certain social problems but it was not that enjoyable for me.
🙂 I leave it to you to decide whether you liked it or not.
♀️ One positive thing I found, it talks about female masturbation without taboos
👋 I pass and close for now.

I am so glad the new kdramas are bringing back the specific brand of loser men. You know which brand I'm talking about. The Ahn "min min" Minhyuk brand of loser men and I'm loving it. The "I worship this goddess and I'm so in love with her and I can't believe I get to love her. Oh my gods I love her so much" brand of loser men. And we're being fed so well with lovely runner, love next door, no gain no love, my demon, Cinderella at 2am, Hierarchy, Midnight Romance in Hagwon, doctor slump, Queen of tears, welcome to samdal-ri and even good partner (yes it's one sided but the dedication and yuri's couple too).
We need more fictional loser men who worship women to satiate our eldest independent daughter desires.

When Life Gives You Tangerines
Tumblr media
TV Shows/Dramas watched in 2025
When Life Gives You Tangerines (2025, South Korea)
Director: Kim Won Seok
Writer: Lim Sang Choon
Mini-review:
With a dream team like this one, expectations were understandably sky-high. And yet, the show has somehow managed to surpass them. Throughout the past four weeks, it has given us a soaring story about love, loss, growing up and life in general, all of it centered around the incredible women of one specific family. That allows for a deeply insightful exploration of gender roles in South Korea, which writer Lim Sang Choon handles with both sensitivity and bite. The entire cast gives it their all too; I'm not exaggerating when I say this is career-best work from IU, Park Bo Gum, Moon So Ri and Park Hae Joon, and the supporting performers are equally brilliant. Also, kudos must be given to the art teams for the beautiful sets, costumes, make-up, CGI and cinematography. And of course, director Kim Won Seok shepherded the whole project towards brilliancy. All in all, When Life Gives You Tangerines is an unforgettable drama that will stay with you for a long time.

THE POTATO LAB
GENRES: Romance, Comedy
SUMMARY: A corporate merger threatens to end the productivity of a rural potato research lab but manufactures a new romance in return.
THIS SHOW HAS EVERYTHING: Potatoes, puppies, vending machine sikhye, workplace bullying, romantic betrayal, missing baby cows, emergency preparedness, OCD, acceptance, found families, princesses, spying, men posing seductively, X-rated manhwas, failing coffee shops, and rural village comforts.
HOT TAKE: This one tried to do a lot and I'm not sure if it really landed anything of value. It was a easy to swallow rom-com with a stretch of a backdrop plot. At least they made potato farming interesting?
What it did do is provide a vehicle for Kang Tae Oh to suppress most of the acting ability he's known for and at the same time remind us in more than half the episodes that his post-military physique looks great in both wet and dry business suits.
It tried to combine the 'emotionally cold-but-physically hot boss' trope with the 'quirky-but-down to earth subordinate' trope and neither really stuck the landing.
Did Kang Tae Oh's character truly grow as a person enough for this romance to work? It was confusing at times to see his stiff, awkward demeanor often so juxtaposed with composed, sexually-charged body language when times between MLs got intimate. Was that a refreshing commentary on how we as humans contain multitudes (both mentally and motivationally), or just poor character development?
I do appreciate how everyone in this show had their own flaws to deal with (and dealt with them in due time), communication was timely, honest, and open, and Lee Sun Bin's character was steadfast in her confidence when interacting with her ex-boyfriend.
