COLLAGE ON VIEW
Spring 2023
at Sharp Hands Gallery, online, through 24 July 2023. Curators Cheryl Chudyk and Kevin Sampsell write about this exhibition, "Try to imagine a world where teachers didn’t exist. Frankly, it’s a depressing and horrible thought. We should all take comfort in knowing that teachers are everywhere, helping and influencing humans in all manners of being. In a world struggling in so many ways, dedicated educators–perhaps more than anyone else–strive to keep us balanced and save us from total catastrophe. The amount of time and heart that they put into their work is immeasurable. In the collage world, there are many teachers creating fantastic, joyful, and ambitious work. In this show, Sharp Hands Gallery celebrate Spring with a team of wonderful collagists, who enrich the world with their artistic skills as much as their selfless work in schools and other institutions." MORE

Kolaj Magazine, a full color, print magazine, exists to show how the world of collage is rich, layered, and thick with complexity. By remixing history and culture, collage artists forge new thinking. To understand collage is to reshape one's thinking of art history and redefine the canon of visual culture that informs the present.

'Go for him', 'Not good enough' - Lots of Everton fans disagree on potential move for 43-cap ace
According to Sky Sports News, Everton have been offered the chance to sign Marseille midfielder Kevin Strootman on loan for the 2019-20 campaign.
Strootman arrived at Marseille from Roma last summer and the midfielder has made 34 appearances in all competitions for the French side this term.
However, according to Sky Sports News, the Ligue 1 outfit would be open to allowing the Netherlands international to leave in order to shift his wages.
And the Everton fans have been on social media reacting to the report.
Whilst there are those who would be happy to see Strootman arrive at Goodison Park, others have outright rejected the move.
The 29-year-old is a 43-time Netherlands international and has made a positive impression in the French top flight this season.
In this era of ‘big 6’ dominance, has finishing 7th become as good as winning a trophy? The Pl>ymaker FC squad have their say in the video below…
Manchester United and West Ham United have also reportedly been offered his services and it will certainly be interesting to see what occurs.
A selection of the Twitter reaction from the Everton supporters can be seen below:
On loan I wouldn’t mind it. He could help on cup games & for depth

— Sam Quayle (@QuayleSam) May 22, 2019
go for him,quality
— Bjørnen (@Evertoningen) May 22, 2019
Maybe like 4-5 years a go, not now need to be aiming for better
— Alex Gregory (@AlexGregory92) May 22, 2019
Maybe a few years ago when linked under Koeman but not now…
— Aide Dews (@AidyDews) May 22, 2019
No way. Not good enough for an average Marseille team so not good enough for us.
— Toffee Cleggy (@zuzino) May 22, 2019
Yes please!

KOLAJ LIVE ONLINE
PoetryXCollage Journal Launch
Thursday, August 11th, 6PM EDT
In January 2022, we issued a call to artists for a Poetry & Collage Residency and received so many excellent responses that we organized a series of three residencies. The artists heard from guest speakers Kevin Sampsell, Renée Reizman, Rod T. Boyer, and the Poetry Foundation's Fred Sasaki and were challenged to create page spreads to be included in a forthcoming book of collage and poetry.
Join Kolaj Institute and several of the contributing artists in a discussion surrounding the residency, their artwork, and the intersection of collage and poetry. Artists will share images of their work and read their poetry. The event is free & open to everyone. Registration is required. MORE
Kolaj LIVE Online is a series of virtual programs in the form of forums, panels, workshops, artist talks, studio visits, and other activities that allow people to come together, learn and talk about collage, and connect in real time to the collage community. Our goal is to bring the community together in a spirit of mutual support and fellowship.

Kevin Sampsell - artist research.
Tumblr media
Kevin Sampsell is a collage artist, I really like this work I think it shows identity  very well through the bold words and expressions shown. I created a piece of work inspired by him, using my own photography and drawings. I really liked the way it turned out, however I wanted to create something on a more 3D scale.
Tumblr media
This was my piece inspired by Sampsell.

New zine! The 15-year anniversary issue of Basic Paper Airplane, where 20 writers, musicians, DJs, label owners, publishers, and comic artists tell stories of how cassette tapes have affected their lives, for better or worse.
Within: the art of the mixtape, the importance of the boombox, the intimacy of the Walkman. Plus tales of recording with cassettes, performing with cassettes, releasing cassettes, falling in love with cassettes. Nostalgia, subversion, frustration, possibility.
Contributions from: Andrew Barton, Ariel Birks, Karleigh Frisbie Brogan, Aaron Burch, Laura Daegling, Tim Devin, Fukumup, Aaron Gilbreath, Cynthia Carmina Gómez, Jack Lewis, Chask'e Lindgren, Pat Maley, Jason Martin, Sara Renberg, Kevin Sampsell, Gina Sarti, Christopher Sutton, Tucker Theodore, and Alexis Wolf. Cover art by Rachel Lee-Carman. Soap by Kevin Sampsell
"And I once thought 55 was bad. Sixty-five is a sick witch." -- Kevin Sampsell, "Soap"
My body was decaying, stretched and pasty from all the years inside of it. Blood turning to dust mites. Humid in all the folds, the slacking. The problem was I kept forgetting to buy soap. And I once thought 55 was bad. Sixty-five is a sick witch. Even my grandkids shriek and shrivel at my touch. They’re yet to know what pity means in their brains, but their bodies know instinctively when to feel…
