A sort of background but no less important important part of kh lore goes as follows:

Vexen is a brilliant scientist, he singlehandedly creates and manages the replicas - very important inventions that are a crucial foundation for current and future plot points.

Vexen is the first organization member to perish.

Shorty thereafter; all 3 of his (not biologically related) children start causing chaos.

All 3 of his children subsequently perish, the most notable of these being a replica and her replica specific problems that are critical to the plot of 358/2 and setting up the plot of kh2.

Vexen and his oldest child, among others, come back to life

Vexen immediately re-kills himself in order to rejoin the villains as they really need his replicas. This is all part of a secret traitorous plan to bring his other two children and other important characters back to life, all of which he succeeds at.

They make him a reserve member.

Can Organization XIII Sing?

Xemnas: The most he’ll do is hum, but that stops if anyone is anywhere near him.

Xigbar: Sounds like a drunken pirate

Xaldin: Can’t sing, and gets annoyed when other people do it

Vexen: If he tries, he sounds like a dying cat

Lexaeus: He cannot sing at all

Zexion: He’s decent

Saïx: He can sing really well, and can also growl and scream like singers such as Ben Burnley or Corey Taylor, but he hates being heard, so he makes triple sure he’s alone before he does it

Axel: Can’t sing, but has fun doing it anyway

Demyx: VERY GOOD SINGER

Luxord: He can carry light tunes

Marluxia: Literal angels voice

Larxene: She can’t sing, but can rap like hell

Roxas: Same as Axel

Xion: Could sing a duet with Marluxia and drive everyone to tears
