The Way, Virtue, Method, and Art of Nurturing Life

The Purpose of Nurturing Life: to: To maintain health, achieve longevity, transcend the ordinary, and attain Tao.

The Essence of Nurturing Life: Nurturing the essence, qi, spirit, form, heart, and nature.

The Way of Nurturing Life: Follow the path of the Greatest Creator, that is, the path of nature, and act in accordance with nature.

The Virtue of Nurturing Life: Treat all beings with kindness. Without virtue, it is difficult to nurture life. Benefiting others is benefiting oneself, harming others is harming oneself.

The Method of Nurturing Life: Purify the soul, empty the consciousness, be selfless and formless, and unite with Tao.

The Art of Nurturing Life: Maintain regular routines, moderate diet, calm the spirit and quiet the mind, balance movement and stillness, regulate breath to nurture qi, be simple and easy, guide qi to harmony, make the body flexible, have a clear heart and few desires, reduce worries, embrace the Yin and the Yang, Know the Masculine but Keep to the Feminine, treat people with equanimity, handle affairs moderately, meditate on beautiful things, perform many Yin deeds, often change spaces, and integrate with nature.

A brief explanation of the above content is as follows:

To maintain health, achieve longevity, transcend the ordinary, and attain Tao is to cultivate the demeanor of a Celestial Being and be free and easy.

Nurturing essence is to absorb energy, absorb the essence of the sun and the moon, the spiritual qi of heaven and earth, to ensure that the body is “half an acre of square pond, looks like a mirror, the light of the sky and the shadow of the clouds linger together, ask the canal how to be so clear, because there is a source of living water.”

Nurturing qi mainly nurtures lung qi, stomach qi, liver qi, heart qi, blood qi, essence qi, and spirit qi.

Nurturing spirit mainly is to make the spirit calm; the spirit does not go out.

Maintaining one’s physical form primarily involves using health exercises to achieve a symmetrical body proportion, balanced weight, kind and gentle appearance, and beautiful exterior.

The main purpose of nurturing the heart is to allow the environment to follow the heart, to enable the soul to transcend all phenomena, to manifest the heart when events occur and to empty the heart when they pass, ensuring that no things or phenomena linger in the heart.

Cultivating one’s nature is the most challenging task. The primary goal is to relinquish human wisdom and intelligence, return to the original intention of the creator, that is, to achieve the unity of heaven and man.

Because “the great way is exceedingly smooth,” and “Tao manifests itself in nature”, the path adhered to in life nurturing is the path of nature.

The virtue of life nurturing lies in benefiting all sentient beings. If you treat all life kindly, all life will reciprocate in kindness. If you harm other lives for your own nourishment, you are violating the virtue of life nurturing. Violating this virtue not only renders life nurturing futile, but it also invites endless troubles.

The primary method of life nurturing is to purify the soul. Cleanse the weeds and trash in one’s soul garden, let the flowers bloom and the fragrance permeate. Then, maintain a tranquil mind, allow your consciousness to be orderly and not chaotic, always in a state of ethereal tranquility. Because only by relinquishing the ego can one realize the Self. All phenomena are but illusions, hence, one needs to enter a state of selflessness and formlessness, to evolve in accordance with Tao. Tao endures, and so do I.

The art of life nurturing belongs to methods and measures. The content of the art of life nurturing is vast and numerous. I mainly focus on the following eighteen aspects.

Maintain Regular Routines: The arrangement of work, rest, and living should be punctual and orderly, preferably in accordance with the natural sequence and the structure of the human body.

Moderate Diet: Don’t eat indiscriminately, don’t eat blindly, eat what you should eat, absolutely don’t eat what you shouldn’t eat. Don’t overeat or drink, and don’t starve or go hungry. Eat meals at a fixed quantity and time.

Calm the Spirit and Quiet the Mind: If the heart is quiet, the spirit will be at peace. If the heart is running, the spirit will be swinging. If the spirit does not guard the house, it will be difficult to live a healthy and long life. Therefore, you need to keep your heart quiet, and at the same time, you need to keep your mind quiet, that is, your consciousness, thoughts, and ideas are pure and not mixed.

Balance Movement and Stillness: Movement and stillness complement each other. Pure movement and pure stillness are both detrimental to health preservation. Move when it’s time to move, be still when it’s time to be still. You can have a calm mind and active body, an active mind and calm body, both mind and body can be active, both mind and body can be still. In short, movement and stillness should be combined and appropriate.

Regulate Breath to Nurture Qi: Through conscious breathing regulation, make the breath become more and more relaxed, even, and long. You can also combine it with health exercises, let the movement and breathing proceed synchronously, in order to cultivate Qi.

Be Simple and Easy: Make life simple and frugal, do not pursue luxurious things, so you will not be busy. Not being busy is also a kind of health preservation.

Guide Qi to Harmony: This is a kind of Qigong practice, letting Qi run smoothly and unobstructed among the limbs, bones, five organs and six viscera.

Make the Body Flexible: Do exercises to make the body soft and not stiff.

Have a Clear Heart and Few Desires: Be satisfied with the present, be grateful, be content with circumstances, do not seek excess.

Reduce Worries: “Three parts human effort, seven parts fate”, everything has a fixed number, health preservation should reduce worries.

Embrace the Yin and the Yang: The invisible is Yin, the visible is Yang, rely on the invisible, depend on the visible, Yin supplements Yang’s rigidity, Yang supplements Yin’s softness, adhere to the principle of Tai Chi.

Know the Masculine but Keep to the Feminine: Do not show off strength or ability, water naturally becomes deep, mountains naturally become peaks, health preservation should be done in the details, work hard on the weak.

Treat People with Equanimity: Always keep calm and peaceful, do not argue, quarrel, fight, or debate with people, get along harmoniously with the people around you.

Handle Affairs in Moderation: Do not do things absolutely, leave room for everything, if you exceed the degree, it is not health preservation.

Meditate on Beautiful Things: Fully use the law of attraction and the principle of visualized thinking to build your own body and environment.

Perform Many Acts of Hidden Virtue: Do more anonymous giving, secretly do more good deeds.

Change Space Often: Frequently change your living space, do not stay in one place for too long.

Integrate into Nature: Live in nature, integrate with nature.

Health preservation is a learning, an art, a taste, a process of sublimating life, health preservation is not a stage, but throughout life, treat everything encountered in life with the eyes and perspective of health preservation, life will have different levels and realms, one will have the mood of Liu Yuxi’s “In Praise of My Humble Home”.

Health preservation first needs to cultivate Tao, then the virtue, after having Tao and virtue of health preservation, you can use the method of health preservation, after understanding the method of health preservation, you can freely use the art of health preservation, the content of the art of health preservation is complex, involving all aspects related to people, too much emphasis on the art, will become a burden and cumbersome, so it is better to use the art to treat the symptoms, “self-nature can generate all dharma”, no need to be too defensive and worried.

Gabriel Agreste: Interesting Villain, Horrible Character (400 Follower Special)

I'm honestly surprised more people didn't want me to talk about Gabriel, especially with how often I rag on how horrible of a person he is. But, three character analysis posts later, and we're going to talk about why the main villain of Miraculous Ladybug is a real letdown.

Gabriel Needs to give the Whining a Rest

The interesting thing is one of the few things I actually liked in Season 3 was Hawkmoth. His plans actually made sense (for the most part), and by playing the long game, he managed to turn Chloe against Ladybug and deprived her of several key allies. Granted, Season 4 immediately undid the latter, but I was still impressed by his strategy.

Generally, one of the better aspects of Gabriel as a character was just how over the top he was as Hawkmoth. Keith Silverstein is clearly giving it his all with his performance, and he is just so enjoyable to watch as a cartoonish supervillain.

And therein lies the first major problem with Gabriel as a character. While he is fun to watch as a simple supervillain, the show tries to give him more depth and unintentionally makes him worse.

In Season 2, when it was revealed that Gabriel was Hawkmoth, many fans speculated on what he needed the Miraculous for, until the Queen Bee Trilogy showed it was to save his possibly dead wife, Emilie. The idea of that is so the show can give more depth to its main villain, and I think it's an interesting idea in concept. After all, the road to Hell is paved with good intentions.

The problem is just how radically different Gabriel is normally compared to how he is as Hawkmoth. He always goes on about how he's “doing this for Emilie”, but it's hard to really sympathize with him when you consider he constantly gives evil monologues and evil laughs, really getting into the supervillain role. And let's not forget all of the “I'm going to wear Ladybug's skin as a suit” faces he loves to make.

Clearly this man is the picture of mental stability.

Gabriel's motivation for being Hawkmoth when compared to what he actually does as Hawkmoth is shady enough, but the thing is that the writers clearly want the audience to at least feel a little bad for him. They want to make the audience sympathize with him despite the way he acts with or without the mask. Without Miraculous Ladybug, he is routinely putting innocent lives in danger and never once shows regret for his actions. All he talks about is how “he's doing this for Emilie”, or that “he'll get their Miraculous soon”. There's no real reason to feel bad for him other than “because the script says so”.

Let's compare Gabriel to Malcolm Merlyn from Arrow. His big plan in the first season of the show is to create a machine that will cause an earthquake to destroy a crime-infested portion of Starling City, claiming to be trying to help everyone, but it's clear he is only doing it out of revenge for his wife getting killed by a criminal from that part of the city. In addition, throughout that season and future seasons, he always makes sure his plans lead to him benefiting in some way, showing he isn't just some noble man trying to achieve his goals with a less than noble method.

If we got some moments that showed that what Gabriel was doing was selfish, it would make him a more complex villain. But we don't get anything like that. What do we get instead? Well...

I Could Really Care Less About Emilie Agreste

We have known Gabriel's motivation has been to save his wife for a little over two years at this point, but at the same time, it's hard to believe that motivation because of how underdeveloped Emilie is as a character.

There have been a total of two lines in the entirety of the show that explain what happened to Emilie, and they're both vague as hell. One of them was from “Feast” that implied Emilie used the broken Peacock Miraculous.

Adrien: My mom used to have dizzy spells… just like Nathalie.

And the other that outright tells the audience what's happening to her in a clip show that most people will skip.

Nathalie: As I've watched Emilie falling deeper into an endless sleep, my sadness for her has deepened, too

That is literally all we get for an explanation, and nothing else. We have no idea of what she's like as a person or what her relationship with her family was like other than Gabriel and Adrien saying they miss her. Other than the way the narrative says she's important to Gabriel and Adrien, we don't really have a reason to care about her as a character. There have also been some lines that imply she went along with Gabriel's questionable parenting techniques, like how he was apparently only homeschooled as a kid (Origins) and never had a birthday party growing up (The Bubbler), so how do we even know if she's a good person? In fact, why not set up this question as a mystery to make the audience wonder if Gabriel has another reason to bring Emilie back?

It ultimately turns Emilie into a plot device and not a character that Gabriel and Adrien only bring up to make the audience feel bad for them, and meant to justify Gabriel's actions by saying that he's “doing this for his family”.

But hey, if he's doing this all for his family, surely Gabriel's redeeming traits come from his relationship with Adrien, right? Right?

As a Parent, Gabriel is Far From the Best

I've talked about this briefly before, but parenting in Miraculous Ladybug is written in such a black and white way, even by the standards of this show. Parents are portrayed in one of two ways. They're either amazing people who love and support their children unconditionally, or they're awful people who treat their own children like trash. And much like a lot of things in this show, there are times where the latter is treated like the former.

There are so many times where the narrative insists on making you see Gabriel as a troubled, but wellmeaning person who tries his best to be a good parent to Adrien, but it is far from the truth.

I'm not going to beat around the bush. Gabriel is a terrible parent. Like, he is awful at being a parent in so many ways, even before you find out he's Hawkmoth. In his first appearance, “The Bubbler”, he delegates getting Adrien a birthday present to Nathalie, his assistant. He literally can't be bothered to take time out of his schedule to get his own son a present for his birthday. And as the show goes on, he becomes more controlling and forbids Adrien from going out with his friends in other episodes (Captain Hardrock, Silencer). While this could be used to show Gabriel getting worse, it's never acknowledged in-universe, with Adrien continually defending his father essentially keeping him on house arrest.

“But IOTA!” You might say. “Gabriel has made efforts to bond with his son in some episodes.” While that might be true, most of those come right after his Akumas have almost gotten Adrien killed. He only hugged Adrien and made an attempt to learn more about him after Simon Says invaded their home, he only decided to watch that movie Emilie was in with Adrien after Gorizilla nearly dropped him off a building, and he only hugged Adrien again in public after he was turned into a gold statue by Style Queen.

In fact, let's talk about how Gabriel acts in the Queen Bee Trilogy. He actually decides to quit being Hawkmoth, but it's not because he realizes all the damage he's caused. Instead, he gave up because his “magnum opus”, a stronger than usual Akuma that only got the advantage on Ladybug ironically because of dumb luck, failed. Sure, he says he can't keep putting his son in danger, but he rarely ever acknowledges that he does so in the first place. When Riposte wanted to fight Adrien, Hawkmoth did nothing to stop her other than giving her a stern warning earlier on and nothing else. Where was this attitude earlier?

Hell, even then, he immediately goes back to being Hawkmoth as soon as he sees an opportunity, not even a day after his “mAgNuM oPuS” blew up in his face (because I guess Scarletmoth was just Plan B). If he made such a big deal about caring for his son, why didn't he try harder to spend time with him? Has he ever had doubts about what he's doing before? If Chloe didn't show up as Queen Bee, was he going to follow through on his promise and try to be a better father to Adrien instead of trying to get Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculous?

And yeah, the whole irony is that Gabriel is doing this for his family when he is unknowingly fighting his own son, which could lead to some interesting drama if done right. The idea of how Gabriel would react to his son being Cat Noir could really lead to some internal struggles for him to go through. But then we got “Cat Blanc”, which shows just how terrible of a character Gabriel is.

In an alternate timeline where he found out his son was Cat Noir, what does Gabriel do? Does he try to steal Adrien's Miraculous while he's sleeping? Does he reconsider his actions or realize he was endangering Adrien's life?

NOPE! He just decides to akumatize him all while emotionally tormenting him, before causing the end of the world.

This is honestly one of the most appalling things I've ever seen in any TV show, because it's basically an abusive father ordering his son to listen to him all while referencing his (kind of) dead mother to back up his point. And rather than use this to show how despicable Gabriel is, the episode decides to blame Marinette for this happening. Yes, according to the show, her present to Adrien caused several events to happen which caused Cat Blanc, but this logic makes no sense. It's like blaming the JFK assassination on the man who sold a gun to Lee Harvey Oswald, instead of, you know, Lee Harvey Oswald.

Not only was this episode yet another excuse to blame Marinette for something that wasn't her fault, it leads into the biggest problem I have with Gabriel as a character.

Sympathize with Gabriel? Surely, You Jest

After everything I've gone over regarding Gabriel as a character, after all the awful things I've talked about, are you really surprised that I don't feel bad for him at all?

Gabriel is just an awful character and a despicable human being, but the show just keeps wanting me to feel bad for him. It's just so hard to when you consider everything he's done has made him anything but sympathetic. I'm just saying, it's kind of hard to feel bad for someone who tries to start World War III with the only justification being “i'M dOiNg It FoR mY fAmIlY”, especially when he treats his family like crap.

The writers go out of their way to show how horrible Gabriel is as Hawkmoth/Shadowmoth, but they think because they throw in a few moments where he looks conflicted, we'll immediately feel bad for him. What makes so many people interested in seeing Chloe become a better person is that they can tell she's the victim of a troubled upbringing, and know that because she's only a teenager, she still has room to grow as a person, represented by having more honest moments of vulnerability. Gabriel is a grown man who once caused the apocalypse because of how terrible of a parent he is, and has even fewer sympathetic moments than Chloe does. Which one of these two is supposedly irredeemable? The answer may surprise you.

But the frustrating thing is that this kind of villain could have worked. Instead of making him this mustache-twirling psychopath, show how much Gabriel regrets what he has to do, but keeps pushing onward despite all the lives he's risking if it means that he can save his wife. Instead of making Gabriel like Lex Luthor, make him like Mr. Freeze, who is basic a better written version of him.

But as it stands, there's a good reason why Gabriel gets little to no respect as a character in the Miraculous Ladybug fandom, as a villain, or as a father.

Just a wittle PSA

Disclaimer: No, nobody did anything to preempt this, so no worries to anyone out there. It is more a sort of permission slip for any unsure writers out there on what to do about the Muu.

It is alright for muses to treat Muu like he is a "child". I will not behead anyone for any perceived ableism in that regard. In as much of a watered down version as I can offer, Muu is a developmentally and cognitively disabled muse who endured copious amounts of social and emotional trauma from those he looked to for guidance and companionship during the most formative years of his life-- therefore, he does hold a very juvenile manner of thought that one might find comparable to someone even below teenage years. Of his disabilities is AUTISM and with that comes the added challenge of being unable to really process out his feelings logically as is, because he is incredibly hypersensitive in that he FEELS his feelings rather than sort them via cognitive reasoning and internal monolog.

Whatever process one would traditionally use in an instance between two "average" in intelligence adults, I recommend throwing it into the trash. Especially due to the fact that while externally, Muu looks like this:

His inner pilot holds a better resemblance to this state of being when things are stressful / triggering (and go even younger when the instance is inappropriate in a manner he doesn't consent to, but that is a story for another time):

Indicators that any direction he is need of is on par with guidance offered to a younger demographic include, but are not limited to:

Consistent use of terminology such as "good boy" or the use of just "bad" to describe as anything other than what he believes proves himself to be in a positive light.

Be observant of comparisons being made and to what forms of media. For example, Muu has a consistent habit of describing the way he views himself as being the same bad level chart seen in Lilo and Stitch. Another example being his use of connecting his desire for comfort to how it is depicted in songs (Something Comforting) or films (Inside Out) while simultaneously backhandly applying the comment that he needs to earn those experiences through various methods of self improvement.

Lack of spacial awareness when upset-- mildly or otherwise. He often partakes in sitting in the laps of others no matter the age or size differences between them, because really all he is after is closeness and personal connection. As well as the fact that he may appear to be within proximity of having a fit / tantrum like behavior over not being able to receive the amount of affection when and from who he wants at the time. Redirection and distractions are completely advocated for in those instances. Do not allow his attitude to overstep even just once, because otherwise he will walk away having learnt that stomping his sunshine shoe wearing feet and whining are viable methods to get his way.

Methods I would personally suggest utilizing when it appears Muu is feeling and acting small:

It is more than alright to gently suggest he stop talking. No signing, no writing, nothing-- only listening. Think in a manner comparable to gentle parenting styles and I statements. I.e: I can see that your feelings are becoming perhaps too big to handle at this moment. Why don't we have a quick break to rest and rejuvenate ourselves, then we will talk, okay?

Indicate if any disturbances he has made can be resolved in minutes or days. As well as inquire the same on his end. That way there is a lesser weight placed on preexisting abandonment issues by giving his brain the opportunity to dive deep into thoughts centered on him making someone leave / love him less. Be honest, but do so with kindness and consideration. Expect nothing short of that for yourselves as well. He ought to learn he can't just get anything he preaches without speaking those same languages in his own interactions with people as well.

Provide permission and the promise of protection to cry. You would be surprised how quickly he can in fact bounce back if just given a moment to grossly sob things out without being hushed by shame. I can also state as a fact that really his driving force in life as the one and only thing he wants more than anything is to be held while he cries. He very much so is that same 16 year old boy who went days without his existence being allowed to be recognized as punishment for having feelings that were described as being "too big".

Hold his hand. Kiss him on top of his head. Offer a warm smile in his direction. Tell him you love him dearly. Speak tender. Call him by sweet names: baby, darling, little one. Anything really that can make a grown man with a heavy heart know that they were never too much, too small, or will ever be too big to be a huggable, lovable, and comforted always Muu-nchkin.

*waves* Hi, I'm Silver. I want to write Yamcha more accurately (he seems really nice?), but I haven't the time or money to buy the manga or episodes, so... any tips, I guess? Can you help me? Thank you 🌻💜

hiya !! i’m always happy to talk about yamcha and The Character Of yamcha :) gonna put my thoughts under a read more cause this Might be long:

I havent watched Z or Super in a while but I do watch and read through the original Dragon Ball often so accuracy May Vary due to my trash memory. I’m also going to try to keep the games’ depictions of him out of this since accuracy varies among those.

The first thing I wanna touch on is Yamcha’s ego- especially how it evolves over the series. The main thing to keep in mind is that while he is generally cocky about his fighting abilities (which is a major weakness of his as he underestimates his opponents often and gets in trouble because of that), he’s never overly confidant with himself as a person; he seldom tries to paint himself as a better person in comparison to others and rather keeps realistic skepticism about himself. It’s also worth noting that, depending on how old Yamcha is in your depiction, his awareness for his fighting inadequacy compared to his friends varies (the older he is obviously the more conscious he is).

Next thing I’ma talk bout is something that i see kind of treated inconsistently; Yamcha’s relationship with women and his love life. I feel like a lot of people forget that Yamcha’s defining character trait in Dragon Ball was his gynophobia- he chased Goku and his friends so long for the dragon balls so he could remedy his fear of women. Of course, he eventually does date Bulma as they realize dating each other would resolve their mutual wishes for Shenron (Bulma’s being getting a boyfriend and as mentioned before Yamcha’s fear of women). As we’re all aware though, nearly a decade later Yamcha and Bulma mysteriously separate, and the reason for doing so is never explicitly made clear in canon (I could honestly make a whole separate post on Bulma and Yamcha’s break up- there’s a lot to discuss with it so if anyone wants that let me know lmao). The majority believe that Yamcha was unfaithful which, in review of his whole character, makes literally no sense- even just subtracting his fear of women (though I’ll elaborate on that later). But back on track and in regards to his fear of women, it never fully goes away. It just so happens that he’s most comfortable around Bulma, and since Bulma’s the most prominent female character of the series we tend to forget his fear in the first place. When around other female characters, he’s subtlety more anxious- or at the very least he isn’t so much of a playboy as fanon interprets him to be. One final thing to note is- unless I remember the series wrong (and anyone’s free to correct me on this)- Yamcha’s never implied to have gotten another girlfriend or even a lover at any point. Of course it’s hard to track the intricacies of Yamcha’s life- this is a shonen anime where slice-of-life episodes are limited, and even then Yamcha is far from being a prominent character anymore (post Dragon Ball).

Up next is his loyalty/friendships, methods of handling conflict, and overall courage because in my rat brain these all go hand in hand. Nevertheless, Yamcha’s a devoted friend- he’s shown time and time again to be supportive of his pals and, even in spite of his shortcomings, always does his best to help the gang out. Like i touched on before, as Yamcha gets older, he’s more and more aware just how far behind in training he is in compared to his peers. But that doesn’t stop him from trying to fight off whatever threat’s present. So with that we can infer that even if Yamcha can’t be the absolute best, that’s not going to stop him from at least trying if it means helping his friends or making them feel better. Additionally, he’s quick to stand up for others, even if he doesn’t know them too well or even at all and he’s shown not to hold onto grudges. One thing to remember is that, presumably for 16 years, Yamcha’s only companion was Puar (that’s not even considering his life before meeting her) and most interactions he has with people involve robbing them. His social skills might not be the best (though that doesn’t mean he can’t act socially capable- he clearly has no issue trying to make Beerus feel comfortable and like a friend at Bulma’s party) but again, his social skills varies with age and the situation. But again, referring back to his readiness to defend others, he isn’t afraid of getting into conflict if it means helping someone else.

Last few topics I’m going to talk about are his relationships with property, finances, and goals- they seem like a small topics but I still want to talk about it. Now hopefully we’re all familiar with Yamcha’s beginnings of being a desert bandit- and seeing his methods of obtaining items, he didn’t try to charm his victims into giving him their stuff. He just took it if he could if he couldn’t intimidate them and retreated if he couldn’t get what he wanted (which is also noteworthy of Yamcha’s awareness of his limits- a bit contradictory to his fighting ego but it seems that if Yamcha’s certain he isn’t able to win something, then he’ll save himself if it means delaying a goal or staying alive). He doesn’t seem to mind playing the long game either, as he’s willing to tail Goku and co. for months as he waits for them to gather the dragon balls without ever letting his true intentions slip. When it comes to finances, Yamcha doesn’t seem to care to heavily about them: back in the desert, Puar mentions to Yamcha that he should wish for money to which Yamcha dismisses it quickly, stating he could just steal money if he really needed it. It’s also worth noting that despite being a successful baseball player by Super, Yamcha chooses to live in a modest apartment. Either he’s very paranoid with money and, despite having enough to buy a full house, chooses to live in a cheaper apartment building or he’s more comfortable with smaller living spaces- which makes sense since he’d lived nearly two decades in a desert cave and had to scavenge for supplies (plus he seems to still think fondly of the desert as he has a painting of such in his apartment).

For the TL;DR version of this post, here’s essentially what you should keep in mind when portraying yamcha:

He’s generally a very lax, simple, and sociable person when he wants to be- though a bit socially awkward when he isn’t prepared

He’s not egotistical, but he has a bad habit of underestimating his enemies at times. this changes over time of course.

While he’s not itching for conflict, he is loyal and quick to stand up for friends and strangers alike

He acknowledges he isn’t the best, but that doesn’t stop him from trying

He’s ambitious and seldom gives up on his goals

He cares little for huge amounts of wealth or property and generally is just trying to get by in life comfortably

While not cripplingly petrified of women post DB, he still maintains a mild anxiety around women he doesn’t know- even around women he does know pardon Bulma he’s still a bit on edge

I’m done with my character study using the anime and manga, but I like talking about Yamcha so below this little buffer I’m going to get into how the games portray him. I might’ve forgot something or got some things wrong so feel free to talk to me about that if you want to. Anyways, you can stop reading if the above is all you’re concerned with- regardless if you keep reading or not, I wish you the best of luck in writing Yamcha ! :)

If you’re still reading, join me in my continuous ramble of the Rubix cube of Yamcha’s character because Toei and Toriyama can’t be consistent.

Something that seems to be portrayed a significant amount is that Yamcha’s aware of his charm and that he uses this to advantage to smooth talk his way out of situations- not that he just so happens to be good looking and endearing and his panicked socialization just happens to work out for him. In regards to his way of talking out of situations, that’s honestly something I could see if Yamcha acknowledges he’s against a threat much greater than his fighting abilities will allow him to handle- and it’s not like he doesn’t consider himself attractive, if we’re to take his reaction to losing his tooth as anything (in case you aren’t aware, he curses Goku for ruining his “beautiful” face). An example of this is most prominent is his interaction with Frieza in FighterZ, where Frieza remarks that Yamcha is both “handsome and sensible”, to which Yamcha attempts to keep the conversation casual so as to not have to fight (which he later points out to Goku once the latter urges that the three of them should just start fighting already). Though I’m sure his first reaction isn’t to talk his way out of something- he’ll just do it if the opportunity presents itself.

I obviously take huge issue with Yamcha’s portrayal of being a womanizer- his major goal was to settle down, get married, and live out the rest of his life with someone. So for him to be portrayed as having to juggle girlfriends is a bit strange to say the least. You could maybe argue that Yamcha hypes himself up to be a lady’s man as a way to cope with his anxiety (fake it til you make it y’know) but I have little faith in the characterization in Dragon Ball games and for them to think that complexly- plus, again, it contradicts with his humble and awkward personality.

Aside from these two notes, that’s all I have to say. so I’m done- forreal this time.

Denis Leary is making an animated vignette series based on Dogs Playing Poker and 10 Other Pieces of Kitsch Art That Should Be Turned Into TV

KITSCH auction house tremors and stampedes.

Dennis Leary basically discovered sex, drugs and rock n’ roll with his 2015 two season FX series Sex & Drugs & Rock & Roll. Leary’s always been one of those guys that can’t be beaten down in spite of how dopey and cynical his edgy working class personal brand is. He’s got an entire deal set up with Fox, the flailing broadcasting company has placed all of their chips on a Denis with only one lousy “N” in his name. I can’t even with this fake Irish Bostonian droid. Relish in the delicate thought process of Leary and leftover former Daily Show producer, Jim Margolis, bringing up a Pinterest screen grab of the Dogs Playing Poker by Grand Master of Kitsch Cassius Marcellus Coolidge and money signs popping out of both of their heads. Here is a dramatic retelling of this thought process:

“Yo, get this Big D,” salivates the recently fired from Netflix Jim Margolis to Leary over a Zoom, “Fox got this Bento Box Animation Studio sitting around doing nothing but churning out animated interstitials for the Masked Singer, Paradise PD, The Prince, The Blues Brothers animated series, animated Harold And Kumar, Housebroken, The Great North, and ugh..um..Hoops..”

“I fuckin love Hoops, Jimmy! Why aren’t we pitching this on Netflix again?”

“Ok. I’ll get one of those sad Daily Show losers. Um picking one at random, Roy Wood Jr. They’ll pretty much jump into anything, because John Oliver was in Love Guru they start thinking they can fail their way up.”

“I said no politics at the table! Paws off the table! This is going to be so fucking lit!”

Kitsch Art deserves so much more. George Lucas, retired American filmmaker, robber baron of childhoods and all around mensch has been heavily invested in the kitsch art of Norman Rockwell. There are a bounty of stories to tell. Too many of them are far too white and basic, but there are rich narratives to be found in his out of date even for his own time romanticism of The Old Masters. Hopelessly out of date could have been a failing of Rockwell, but his politics grew progressive as his career went on and fought against the system. Cassius Marcellus Coolidge is the man that operated the first bank in Antwerp, New York had the astronaut-like grace to wonder, “what if dogs played poker like people played poker?” A painting that dates back to 1894 used as means to sell cigars. What strikes me most about this painting is that they aren’t wearing clothes, but I bet when you try to imagine the painting you imagine these dogs fully decked out in some sort of work coat. There is a further anthropromized version of the ad called “His Station and Four Aces” that depicts a glimpse at a look at an entire canine furry society. His ideas of putting an animal in clothes remains to this day one of the most novel and surefire commercially friendly means of artistic expression. The original cynical man laughing all the way to the bank, his own bank that he founded to boot.

“Cash” Cassius wasn’t the first man to imagine a domestic pet in people clothes, but he’s probably one of the few to do so with such commercial finesse. The man also at one point filed the patent on the “Comic Foregrounds,” which is the technical name of one of those carnival boards with holes to stick your head in. In post Covid times how many more heads will be salivating and rushing towards those holes to pop their heads in to create a lasting memory, if only for a second. So when I start learning more about this remarkable weirdo Cassius Coolidge, a man according to his official website dogsplayingpoker.com’s Biography: “Trying to chase mischievous boys from an abandoned house, he fell from a window and hurt his knee, leaving him injured for the rest of his life.”

Flash forward back to 2021 and Denis Leary and his career a man with a wikipedia with fun entries about all the accusations of plagiarism and hate speech against autism I start to worry about the legacy of more Kitsch art falling into the hands of other greedy and desperate TV executives. That being said if you are a greedy TV executive who happens to be a maniac that likes reading rando’s tumblr pages do I have a list for you!

TOP TEN PIECES OF KITSCH ART THAT SHOULD BE TURNED INTO SOME KIND OF SOMETHING

“We Are Having a Heavenly Time” Columbian Bike Monkey and Parakeet by, once again, Cassius Coolidge

Coolidge’s anthropomorphic foresight strikes again! This time he effortlessly establishes a captivating duo that could be easily voiced by an endless combination of celebrity voice actors. PAUL RUDD as “Monkey” and ISSA RAE as “Parakeet” present “We Are Having a Heavenly Time” present a travel show. You could basically use whatever leftover footage you have lying around from the many Conan O’Brien segments and plug Monkey and Parakeet and their trusty bicycle anywhere for an irreverent glimpse into the foreign World around us.

2. “Clown and The Girl” by Haddon Sundblom

Now I know what you’re thinking, that title is miserable! I agree, but with a little reverse engineering you get The Girl and Clown, which could be a whole new addition to the Girl on a Train, Girl with a Dragon Tattoo, Girl with a Dangly Earpiece, the Girl-Verse! The girl appears to be quite fearless of this clown, which is good because we need someone to be brave for when the clown takes off his mask.

Sundblom is also the original artist for the Coke a cola Santa Claus and how is it that we have gone this many rotations around the sun without a single Coke a cola Santa Claus special is the real reason why Christmas will always be the saddest time of year.

3. “Clean Your Fornasetti” based around the artistic Plate collection of Pierro Fornasetti

Muk bangs, videos of people eating are a huge cyber traffic boom. People love watching people eat. Why not add the element of surprise by what kind of playful Fornasetti chanteuse is hiding underneath this plate full of gruel? Fornasetti is an artist with over 11,000 items created in his name and over 500 of them are based around a variety of expressions of a single woman. Clean Your Fornasetti is a deep and poetic rumination of the romance between the act of someone cleaning their plate and the reveal that the plate contained a visual feast all its own.

4. “Mickey’s Kinkade Playhouse” by the one and only Thomas Kinkade

The Kinkade Studios features over 63 “narrative panoramas” featuring Disney characters, but largely Mickey and Minnie, simply vibing. It’s time we stop pretending that small children like Mickey Mouse and market him for wistful older audiences that want to radiate in a nice long warm bath of color and sound. I am not sure I am even pitching an actual series but more of a Narrative Panoply. One thing that is missing from Disney Plus, and streaming services in general, is a severe lack of programming frills and flourishing. The iconic Adult Swim bumps are something completely lost to the dustbins of programming history left to remain in youtube compilations. Thomas Kinkade is a lot like Enya. Art critics treated him like a comedic punching bag for so long, but I doubt there’s an artist that grasps the kind of sterile enchantment people want after a long day of opioid benders. We’re all trapped inside doing puzzles why not do the bare minimum of slightly animating a pleasant scene of Mickey and Minnie roasting marshmallows or enjoying a breath of fresh Alpine air?

5. “Dust Lickers” by Odd Nerdrum

Quick! Get me Trash Humpers’ Harmony Korine on the Line Show him Shit Rock! The world of Odd Nerdrum is a harsh and primeval one that would make for an astonishing animated landscape. Odd Nerdrum himself feels like a worthy subject of some kind of documentary based around his imagery and insistence on making his art in the most arcane and old fashioned methods possible. Once again, maybe the visual world of Odd Nerdrum may not make for a full on narrative series, but once again would make for one hell of an animated segment.

6. “Homemade Pasta” by John Currin

A cozy Queer slice of life cooking drama based around the two charming fellows of John Currin’s Homemade Pasta scene. A series of vignettes based around the completely unfabulous and domestic version of bliss that was denied many people as a result of the AIDS crisis. You can’t tell me you don’t see those two nice guys getting cozy and making pasta together and you aren’t dying to see how they go about rolling out their own focaccia bread.

7. “The Velvet Elvis” by the Collective Conscious

David Lynch at one point in time was trying to crack into making his own Elvis biopic. I think it’s pretty safe to say that the age of a public wanting a David Lynch directed Elvis biopic has probably passed, but that does not stop Velvet art enthusiasts. TheVelvetStore.com is featuring a remarkable promo that could really bump up what a David Lynch Elvis movie could be like and the horror of having one’s soul trapped inside of a Velvet Elvis rendition painting seems like a pretty fertile place to begin a proper story about Elvis in America.

8. “Big Eye Bunch” by Margaret Keane

Yes, it was only a matter of time before Ms. Big Eyes herself, Queen of Kitsch, Margaret Keane would come up on a list like this. Tim Burton tried and sort of kind of captured what it so endearing about Keane’s work, but I think a fully animated dive into an orphanage full of sad Big Eye kids that time travel and meet other Big Eyed children version of historical figures is a Big Idea that could make a whole new generation keen on Keane.

9. “Banality” by Jeff Koons

An animated series based around the artistic sensibilities of Jeff Koons would be a tricky affair, but just the kind of gaudy whimsy that someone like Michel Gondrey could use to proper effect. A series based around someone trying to steal the fifteen million dollar Michael Jackson statue would also be appropriate.

10. “Groovenians reboot” by Kenny Scharf

Scharf is the only artist on this list that actually was a kitsch artist that caught the attention of early aughts adult swim. A tv show that only features the artistic sensibilities of Scharf but also a voice acting cast that consisted of Paul Reubens, Rupaul, Vincent Gallo, and Dennis Hopper. There’s also a theme song performed by the B-52s and musical direction by Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh. One of the only known published reviews of the pilot describe the show as needing mind altering substances to enjoy and that it is essentially like “watching a cartoon reflected off of a funhouse mirror. This is basically a description of the modern tik tok addled twitchy type content that makes a killing on the Internet for millenial and zoomer types. Basically the whole aesthetic of a warped and broken looking cartoon is the exact sort of thing weirdos deep diving at youtube at four in the morning are looking for and seeing that this gets a failed pilot and Denis Leary’s Dog Poker vignettes get greenlit is exactly what’s wrong with the world.

You know what - I thought of a killer question! How has your portrayal of both Fenris and Rynne changed since you first started writing them? Both in terms of planned character growth, but also your approach as a writer. Thanks! Love you!

Ohhhh my god. Are you ready for a novel about the progression of Fenris and Rynne? Because THEY’RE BASICALLY 90% OF WHAT I THINK ABOUT ON THE DAILY. HAHA.

Here’s a TLDR summary. My writing of Fenris and Rynne started with one simple idea: my trash ass being like “WHY DOESN’T FENRIS LOVE ME”. Rynne started as a just a self-insert purple!Hawke, but quickly grew into her own character, albeit a character who is inextricably tied to Fenris because I created her for him. A big part of the early writing was an exploration of Fenris’s eventual softening toward Rynne, which is linked to his discovery that her laughter is often a mask for her pain, as well as her constant support and kindness breaking down his barriers. As time has gone on, my writing of them has moved from ‘for the sake of romance and sex’ to ‘how they deal with hardship together a couple and a team’, and that’s what’s ongoing with Lovers In A Dangerous Time… though I often have moments of desperately needing to write some fluffy smut for them because I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH.

The longer (MUCH LONGER…) story of Fenris and Rynne is below!

My first-ever FenRynne piece was honestly like 75% self-insert fluff because I was frustrated by two things: Fenris being my rival LOL, and Fenris flirting with Isabela. I WAS VERY JELLY OF ISABELA, that seductive pirate temptress, and Underpants was born. At the time, I was still in Act 1 and I didn’t know Fenris’s backstory; all I knew was that he had some serious darkness in his past that he didn’t want to talk about yet. Rynne wasn’t even really a character yet; I knew I wanted her to be a ridiculous purple!Hawke because of how that would play against Fenris’s broodiness and moments of dry humour, and I wanted her to have some serious darkness of her own, as that would be the thing that made Fenris realize there was more to her than lewd flirting and inappropriate jokes.

This actually calls to my approach when I’m writing any romances: my OC is built around the existing love interest, not vice versa. I always try to create an OC who complements the LI and is someone that the LI could plausibly fall in love with, rather than inventing an OC that the LI just happens to fall for despite having no significant commonalities. So in some ways, there is no Rynne without Fenris. Her personality and coping methods and ridiculousness are a direct consequence of what I thought would be an interesting contrast and complement with the rival!Fenris that I was gradually getting to know.

My early writing of their romance was very… scattered. LOL I kept on writing little bits and pieces while playing the game, taking prompts from people and writing little scenarios for FenRynne based on prompts. A lot of the early oneshots in Tantrum and A Know-It-All-Grin were my way of feeling them out and getting a sense of how they would interact. Part of what I’ve always enjoyed writing about them �� in every AU — is how much push-and-pull there is between them and how varied their interactions are, especially with early pre-relationship FenRynne. Fenris snarls at her, she smiles and jokes. She does Mage Stuff™, he storms away but can’t resist coming right back. She flirts with him and he flirts back, then stops and is like “wait why did I do that, she drives me nuts”. But even when she drives him nuts, she helps him without question and spends time with him and treats him with the same kindness that she gives to all her other friends, and his little hort doesn’t know how to cope…

The idea for Rynne’s tattoo as a coping mechanism was extremely important to me, and one of the first things I developed. I liked the idea of her having a tattoo that was imbued with some darker significance as a contrast and complement to Fenris’s involuntary markings, and I knew early on also that I wanted the reveal of its meaning during Leandra’s death to be a huge punch in the gut for Fenris, and another way that his bond to Rynne became cemented, even though they weren’t together. By the time this moment happens, he’s slept with her and then left her while also realizing that she’s the one person he trusts and cares about the most, so their interactions had gradually become softer and more about real conversations than just flirting, and brokering an ongoing platonic relationship that continues through to Act 3.

By the time they finally get together in Act 3, I’d gotten Fenris where I wanted him in terms of softening up: he doesn’t lash out like he used to, he understands that Rynne’s incessant jokes are just as often a mask as they are genuine, and he wants to be with her but doesn’t know how to bridge the gap that the past three years had put between them. One thing that ended up shocking me when I was transcribing Youtube videos for Fenris’s dialogue was the fact that he’s sexually abused by Danarius. I didn’t get the dialogue option during Alone where Danarius taunts him about this, so I had to do wrap my mind around that (I WAS REALLY UPSET) and bring it into my writing of Fenris in a way that was sensitive and realistic. I’m relieved that no one seems to have caught the fact that I was unaware of this in the first half of Tantrum, since it’s a pretty significant part of his history. But I’m extremely glad I did learn it, since it was a really influential factor in my smut writing for FenRynne once they finally got together, particularly for chapters like My Body Is A Cage, which explicitly addresses Fenris’s attitude toward his own body and toward sex.

Around the time when I was writing all the fluffy reunion smut and fluff, someone in a Facebook group had put the idea for Fenris the Inquisitor into my head. As I kept writing Act 3 toward the end of the game, I started subtly highlighting more elements of their relationship that would become key in Fenquisition - specifically Fenris being overprotective of Rynne, and Rynne’s fears about losing or being left by the people she loves, including Fenris.

When I started Lovers In A Dangerous Time (i.e. Fenris the Inquisitor), I didn’t just want it to be a “what if Fenris was the Inquisitor” story; I wanted it to still be primarily a story about Fenris AND RYNNE TOGETHER and how their relationship would evolve with all the shit that Inquisition throws at you. I was also aware that a story with a pre-established couple can be a ‘hard sell’, so keeping it interesting but realistic has always been my goal. I was fairly confident I could keep it interesting because the events of Inquisition would keep the relationship dynamic and evolving. When Fenquisition starts, Fenris is very overprotective because of the Chantry trying to track Hawke down; the dynamic gradually shifts to her becoming overprotective of him because, well, INQUISITION. At the point where the story is now, there are some parts of FenRynne’s relationship that hearken back to the early days of their reunion: their style of flirting has never changed; she still thinks he’s brilliant and beautiful, and he still adores her humour and her optimism; and they always have each other’s backs. But the events in Inquisition have imbued them with an element of desperation that wasn’t there in the earlier days. They’ve become both self-sacrificing and co-dependent, which is a source of ongoing conflict between them, but conflict that they always talk out time after time because THEY JUST LOVE EACH OTHER A LOT OK.

So, uh, yeah... This is the story of how FenRynne became a Thing™, and why I am so much trash for them LOL. They’re the couple I’ve spent the most time writing and thinking about, and the couple I’ve followed the longest through time and in the most AUs (ENORMOUS THANKS TO @schoute FOR THE AU INSPO AND COLLAB). As much as I joke about Rynne being a self-insert - YES SHE LOOKS LIKE ME, OKAY, SHUT THE FUCK UP - both Fenris and Rynne have elements of my personality, and some of their interactions and the issues they’ve dealt with as a couple reflect experiences I’ve had in my own relationship with my fiancé. In summary, I love them a lot, @lethendralis-paints I LOVE YOU FOR ASKING ABOUT THEM, and I hope this answer wasn’t too boring for anyone who actually decided to read the whole thing HAHAHA.

Born to moderately wealthy and mentally healthy parents with stable, Sibyl Approved jobs, Sabito’s upbringing was uneventful, perhaps what some would even call “normal”. He was loved, cared for, supported, given the best opportunities to thrive in education and social situations — all in line with what was expected of the ever-present system that oversaw every aspect of their lives.

Despite this, from a young age, Sabito’s father instilled strict, honourable ethics within him with little care for Sibyl’s expectations and judgement, a sharp contrast with his mother’s constant worrying over his hue and aptitude. His father consistently taught him to focus on developing his skills and forging his own path forward, regardless of what Sibyl wanted for him, reminding him of the importance of thinking and acting for himself. No matter how easy Sibyl’s aptitude tests might make things, it was no reason to grow complacent.

As a result of his father’s teachings and his own views of the world around him, Sabito grew up to be a very rational and shrewd young man, his undeniably kind and soft heart tucked away beneath a stoic layer. Intelligent, perceptive, skilful and resourceful; it seemed only logical that Sabito was destined for great things in the eyes of Sibyl.

Following graduation, like the rest of his fellow former students ( and alongside his childhood friend, Tomioka Giyuu ), Sabito was entered into Sibyl’s infamous aptitude exam designed to determine which job would be best suited for him over the course of his life. Amongst the hundreds of candidates, only Sabito and a handful of others held an A RANKING for a position at the Public Safety Bureau.

If Sabito were being honest with himself, it was a position he’d secretly been hoping for. Pleased that Sibyl’s judgement aligned with his own drive and desire to help people, Sabito entered the MWPSB’s notoriously difficult training programme at the age of EIGHTEEN.

At the age of TWENTY-ONE, Sabito finally graduated from the programme and was granted a position in DIVISION 4 as an INSPECTOR.

Over the next two and a half years, Sabito and his Division solved a number of cases, swiftly cementing themselves as a hard-working, quick-thinking team. Sabito’s methods were viewed as somewhat unorthodox by his fellow Inspectors; rather than bark orders at his Enforcers and regard them with disdain due to their status as Latent Criminals, Sabito treated each of them with respect. If he ever wanted to earn their trust and bring out the best of their abilities, he knew better than to treat them like trash, regardless of what crimes they may or may not have committed prior to their appointment as Enforcers.

For a while, Sabito was convinced that his efforts were a benefit to society, that he was protecting innocent people from falling victim to mindless violence and helping those that still had a chance for recovery. Foolishly, he had become blind to the very system his father had warned him to remain aware of, an oversight that would soon prove his downfall.

One day, when his parents were due to arrive in the city in order to visit him, a freak, one-in-a-million accident results in the death of his mother. His father, also in the car at the time, survives the accident. However, after watching his wife perish in the crash, his crime coefficient abruptly spikes and he’s later hospitalised, branded a Latent Criminal by the Sibyl System.

Confused and angered by Sibyl’s decision, Sabito’s disillusionment in the system he had come to place his trust in begins.

TRIVIA:

While Sabito treats his Enforcers with the respect they deserve as fellow human beings, he rules his Division alongside his fellow Inspector with an iron fist. He does not tolerate misconduct, laziness, excuses, or whining. He gives his best and expects their best in return. He won’t hesitate to put his foot down with anyone if they fail to meet his impeccable standards.

A few months into his appointment as an Inspector, Sabito receives the scar on his cheek ( identical to the one in canon ) when confronting a knife-wielding suspect. Many think it adds to his already intimidating aura.

Despite his strict, by-the-books conduct, Sabito possesses a dry, sarcastic sense of humour.

He’s in the process of teaching himself how to properly cook, a dying art in a world where everything can be fabricated for you. At present, he can only confidently make salmon daikon soup, his childhood friend’s favourite dish.

He has a strong sense of justice. There’s little he hates more than seeing innocent people in danger and takes it as a personal blow whenever he’s unable to save someone. He becomes angered at suspects and criminals when they involve innocent people in their whims.

Sabito has a bad habit of bottling his feelings up, very rarely revealing his true self to those around him. He keeps people at arm’s length, is typically stoic and perhaps even unapproachable at times. Despite this, he’s well-liked amongst his fellow Inspectors, as he never turns away from someone in need and will go above and beyond to help them.

He’s selfless to a fault. He has no qualms with putting himself ( mentally, physically, emotionally ) in harm’s way if it means protecting others.

ABOUT:

The loss of his mother and the subsequent increase in his father’s crime coefficient resulting in his hospitalisation left Sabito jaded. How can trauma — a perfectly human response to a stressful event — equate to criminal activities? How does grief turn someone into a potential threat to society?

He saw the flaws in Sibyl’s judgement and, unable to cease the ever-growing list of questions burning at the back of his mind and fuelled by his anger towards the unjust system callously deciding right from wrong, Sabito’s once stable, healthy Psycho-Pass began to slip. Against the warnings of his fellow Inspectors, Sabito refuses treatment.

In a little under three weeks, Sabito goes from one of the most well-respected Inspector’s of the MWPSB to a disgraced Enforcer, stripped of his prestigious rank and delegated to the role of a hunting dog. In an ironic, twisted way, his suspicions are proven correct — regardless of trauma, mental illness or a desire to commit a crime, the moment a person no longer fits Sibyl’s ideal of the perfect citizen, they are discarded without a second thought.

While he continues to work at the MWPSB, forced to carry out Sibyl’s commands, Sabito remains focused on a single goal: to find a way to dismantle the corrupt system dictating their lives and return agency to the citizens of Japan. No matter how long it takes to get there, Sabito intends to help out as many people as he’s able to along the way.

TRIVIA:

Sabito’s outlook on life has become a lot more jaded since his demotion to Enforcer. While he still possesses the same drive for justice, his faith in the system and in society as a whole has taken a mighty blow.

DTP Interview #6 Elbenherzart

Hello to all our friends and followers of Daily Thranduil Project!

Today it’s @elbenherzart‘s turn for our fandom interviews. She is a really talented professional illustrator, who has produced many beautiful artworks inspired by the world of Tolkien. She works with traditional media as well as with digital ones and has a lot of other creative talents, like sewing awesome cosplays. I hope you are curious to find out more about her, so without any further delay, I present you here with her answers to the questions we had asked her:

What Media do you create?

  For digital paintings I use Photoshop and for my traditional stuff mostly inks or ballpoint pens. I almost never use pencils, because I find myself erasing all the time.   Are you self-taught or did you go to art school?   

I am mostly self-taught. Tho I have a bachelor degree in Intermedia Design. This gave me a few design and composition fundamentals I can apply to my images, but didn't teach me to draw or to paint. Also I have a lot of other professionals as friends who help me with critiques and reflection of my art. I always wanted to go to Art School but the programs in Germany are pretty shitty for it. All you learn is like drawing with a pencil bound to a stick, drawing with your not-drawing hand or drawing with a blind fold. It's complete garbage and I envy people who can afford programs such as the Swedish Academy of realistic Art where you actually learn useful drawing and painting fundamentals instead of fooling around.

   Which artists have influenced your style?  

That is a tough question. I admire a lot of artists but I guess my digital work is mostly influenced by Magic-the Gathering or Dungeons & Dragons artists, since this is the direction my work is heading too.   

Which are your favourite artists?   

I'd say Peter Mohrbacher, Jana Schirmer, Cynthia Sheppard, Jason Rainville...but hell, there are a lot. I can't pick a favourite.

What would you say you are best known for in the fandom?

  I'm not even sure I'm known for anything in this fandom. XD But the work I did based on the Silmarillion so far sells the best on Conventions and I get the most comments on it.    

Do you have a favourite pairing?   

Yes of course, but it's kind of controversial I'd say. ;)  

Do you have a favourite creation of yours you are especially proud of?

  I'm kind of proud of my latest piece, Celebrimbor's Smithy. It was a tough one, since interior scenes are very hard in general for me. The work on this piece took a whole month with a few breaks of course.   

Do you have a favourite fictional character, besides Thranduil of course?  

That would be Kylo Ren/Ben Solo from the Star Wars Universe.   

What other fandoms are you part of?  

The Star Wars Fandom, tho I'm barely active there. I have a Tumblr blog dedicated to it, but I mostly just reblog stuff and did only one Star Wars related painting so far. The fandom is kind of toxic with its stupid ship wars and anti culture going on.  

Do you do commissions?   Yes. :)

Any advice/words for others in the fandom?   

That is such a general answer, but stay true to yourself, do what you love and don't give others shit over characters/pairings you don't like. Treat people the way you want to be treated. Be kind and respectful, you don't know what people are going through. If you are an artist, or want to be one; only self reflection, critiques and hard work will get you moving forward. You need to be able to see your own flaws. For that you need to seek out people who can give you an honest opinion about your art. (Not your friends or family.) Vanity is the downfall of every professional artist. You can be proud of your work, but never vain.  (You can always ask me for porfolio reviews or advice if you want by way. :))  

Personal Questions:  

Favourite Book?   The Silmarillion.   

Favourite movie?   Currently Star Wars-The last Jedi.   

Do you have a pet peeve?   

Littering. When I see people throwing their trash onto the walkways or streets I get furious. Take it to the next trash bin or home! It's not difficult.  

What country are you from?   Germany!   

Who do you think you might have been in a past life?   

Probably a cat. Sleeping and eating is all I want to do. :)  

What do you like to do in your spare time other than create the media you work on?

  When I'm not drawing or painting I'm either binge watching series on Netflix (currently Outlander <3) or I'm with my friends/boyfriend. Sometimes I write Fanfiction, but mostly I'm reading it. I also try to travel as often as possible and sew my own costumes when time allows it.  

When did you join the fandom?

  I think back in 2007. Not really sure actually. Definitely more than 10 years ago.

What inspires you to cosplay a specific character?   

Honestly it's mostly the robes. If I like the aesthetic of a character, I want to cosplay him/her. XD Of course I also have an eye on the character and need to like him/her.  

You are very ardent about being vegan. Will you tell us a little bit about your reasons and why is it important to you and should we maybe all think about how can we help to preserve nature instead of destroying it?   

This is a loaded question and I'm unable to answer it with just a few words. Feel free to ignore this text if you are not interested.  As I learned that raising livestock for meat, eggs and milk generates 14,5% of global greenhouse gas emissions, the second highest source of emissions and greater than all transportation combined and that it's the leading cause of deforestation, biodiversity loss and water pollution, I knew that I had to act and change my diet, because I simply couldn't live with that knowledge and not doing something about it. And of course the killing of millions of sentinent animals every single day. The meat industry is the most powerful industry in the world and they try literally everything to make us continue to buy meat, to make it cheaper and to leave people in the dark about the consequences for our planet and our health. Here the Pharmaindustry comes in. The meat industry is their biggest customer (80% of their money is made from antibiotics they sell to farmers and animal factories) and sponsor, feeding billions of pills to animals each to day to alter their flesh. It's all about money, control and very fucked up. Like always.  If the grain that is used to feed our first world country livestock would be given to people in Africa or other third world countries where children starve to death, no one on this planet would need to suffer from hunger anymore. It's all pretty messed up and a paradox.  The only way of preserving nature in the long run is going vegan actually. I know that a lot of people don't like this thought, but that's mostly because they are misinformed (I was too, everyone is in the beginning) and fear either deficiencies or they think they can only eat vegetables and fruits. But that's not true. There are so many vegan dishes and sweets out there people are not even aware of. Oreos for example are completely vegan. A lot of junk food is. Cake, Ice cream and chocolat can be vegan too. It's all just a matter of replacing the eggs and there are plenty of alternatives. When people think about going vegan, they think about all the things they can't have anymore. Instead, think of the things you gain from it. You support the environment, save lifes and it's beneficial for your health. You are less likely to get cancer or diabetes. You don't have to give up your beloved sweets or junk food. I mostly eat the same things I ate before, just with egg replacement and almond or oat milk instead of cows milk. The only thing you have to keep in mind is B12. I take a pill everyday for it and you should too if your are vegan. If you do that you are completely safe and won't suffer any deficiencies if you live on a wholesome diet.  This wall of text may imply that I try to preach or what ever, but I simply state facts. It's up to everyone if they choose to act or not. I don't judge people for not going vegan. It takes a bit of effort, research and people will judge you for it. If you want to have more information I recommend the Netflix documentaries „What the health.“ and „Cowspiracy“. They are all based on researchable facts and explain a few statements I've given here. Also you might want to take a look at „Why we love dogs, eat pigs and wear cows“.

For my personal taste and fun I prefer traditional mediums. It's much more relaxing than digital art where I have to stare at a screen all day. Also I love the smell of paint and texture of paper. But for client work I definitely prefer digital since it's easier to change mistakes and I'm able to finish something faster. What makes the pay a lot better.

This is NOT Okay: Bullying someone over fanfiction and over what their friends said.

Unfortunately it has come to my attention that a mutual of mine was being harassed both on here and on AO3 because of her Stefano Valentini Randomness Stories, and this sad, pathetic waste of space below tried to JUSTIFY it. What they put is absolutely sickening. [I wound up using strong language in my responses, so I am sorry you have to read those words.]

Look, my friend didn't tell me she was called "basement dweller," and I don't care who did it. That person's ass is grass whether you like it or not. She didn't complain to me about it. I found it myself and acted

If your friend didn't tell you, that meant you actually read it and you saw who REALLY called her a basement dweller, which makes it all the more fucking pathetic you're harassing someone JUST because of what a fan of theirs told your friend!! Where's the justification for THAT?? You just wanted an excuse to hate on someone who wrote what you didn't like, and instead of being the LOGICAL person and confronting the one who insulted your friend you went after the person who had nothing to do with it.

Your friend brought that on herself; she commented something rude, someone else defended the author, and your idiotic little rat brain decides to go after the author???????

That's like me going after YOUR FRIEND because of YOUR BEHAVIOR. I feel so, so sorry that your friend has to put up with a fucking overly goddamn worthless piece of shit like you who thinks its okay to bully others because "MAH FWENDS!" How fucking old are you???????

I'm gonna get this straight once and for all: we did NOT tell her to delete her story. We did not just choose to target her because she was who she was. We just found a crappy story and left our comments.We are just as entitled to our opinions.

From the comments I saw when she linked me I saw you fucking assholes DID tell her to delete her story!! You're just fucking lucky she deleted the whole damn thing because she didn't want to deal with drama anymore, but you are lying through your teeth. You CHOSE to target her because "lolz shitteh storie!" which itself is an EXTREMELY shitty reason to harass someone in the first place and tell therm to delete something they're working on. You're a sick fuck, you all are, because if you think its justifiable to harass people based on how badly their story is written you don't deserve the privilege of being online at all.

There's CONSTRUCTIVE criticism (which nobody there used) that your dumb fucking asses could have used instead of "THIS SUCKS DELETE YOUR STORY DELETE IT NOW" like a bunch of enraged toddlers who are pissy that they can't get what they want.

Instead of ignoring us and deleting them, she turned it into drama. So, immediately, by that alone, that in turn caused her white knights to do what they have been doing.

This just in: Apparently people CANNOT offer their own reason for doing the way it does without "turning it into drama". You bastards were the ones who turned it into drama by harassing her still, people defending themselves against hateful comments (aka "DELETE YOUR SHITTY STORY") is NOT causing drama. You got pissy because she told you off and gave her reason, so you decided to bully her all because "wahh my fee fees hurt!"

And yes, she could use a little bit of real world. Everyone gets depressed, everyone gets anxious. She's not special. Everyone gets a little fragile here and there,

Because of her fragile mental health due to her condition, the poor girl deals with enough ‘real world’ shit at home. Nobody takes medicine for being just sad and just nervous, and everyone gets a little fragile here and there??????? There's a big fucking difference from being at a low point AND HAVING YOUR MENTAL ILLNESS AFFECT YOU SO BADLY THAT YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, AND THERE'S A REASON WHY MOST OF THE PEOPLE WHO COMMIT SUICIDE ARE STRUGGLING WITH MENTAL ILLNESSES.

With you and your friends' fucking harassment YOU COULD HAVE BULLIED THIS GIRL TO SELF HARM and frankly I wouldn't be surprised if you already did, ALL OVER A STORY YOU HATED AND SOMEONE ELSE'S COMMENT.

Pone Reviews 66: School Daze, Part 1 and 2 IT'S HERE! Welcome back to Pone Reviews. I have been so excited to share my thoughts on our new season opener with you. I won't leave you waiting: Here's my take on "School Daze!" To start, the moral. "Everything is unique, so the way we teach must be adapted to be unique as well." The episode stresses this with friendship specifically, but it's really applicable to any subject. Learning "by the book" isn't a great way to learn for many people. The simple classroom format with blackboard lectures and workbooks can go over people's heads. That's why each subject that is taught should be changed depending on the subject. Look at the School of Friendship curriculum, for example. It's hard to instill kindness when it is on paper and not hands-on. Teach it with cute animals! Laughter is similar. Can't do enjoyable activities like games and magic tricks when you're just reading about them. The whole situation reminds me of how traditional colleges don't mesh with some people when trade schools, beauty schools, or liberal art schools would do the trick. And I appreciate that the show is up to the time. They're not shunning traditional education: They're showing that different things work for different people and different teaching methods work for different subjects. Thanks, show! Now, the plot. Turns out the world is more than just Equestria... let's open a school! I'm going to get really philosophical here, guys. If anything, I believe this episode is actually a political commentary on racism. Chancellor Neighsay was insistent on going by the book, which is understandable with his organization basically being the all-mighty school dictator. His big problems were rooted in how he saw the yaks, dragons, griffons, hippogriffs, and Changelings. Neighsay believed the non-pony creatures were lesser than the ponies and thus undeserving of the same lessons. He partially based his decision to close the school on how the five non-pony students "attacked." Of course, the leaders were pissed, but he stood by his opinions. Neighsay's behavior brings to light a sad but real truth our world faced (and still faces). I am having trouble formulating words to describe this situation as it is such a strong subject. What was our nation's mindset that we thought lesser races weren't full people? It is an especially important message in this political climate. Somehow, we still think we have the right to be cruel to people of other races, genders, and sexualities. If anything, we should treat the character of Chancellor Neighsay as a reminder not to be that way again. We *can't* go back. As the song said, friendship always wins. It's moments like these that remind me how much I love and appreciate this show. (Seriously though, if you are a white supremacist, get the hell off my blog. I don't want trash like you near anything I create. Back to the review.) Here are some more moments from this episode that are going into the yearbook: *Ocellus. Every time Ocellus was on screen. She is a gem and must be protected at all costs. She is so pure. I love her so much. This blog might be converted to an Ocellus appreciation blog. *Gotta hand it to the students for thinking of the Castle of the Two Sisters. It's isolated and has tons of areas to live in. Also the students running away together has to be one of the sweetest things I've ever seen in this show. *DANG STARLIGHT! That pep talk was incredible. Mad props. *"STAIRS!" Silverstream is basically a bubble child. You know Cameron from the Total Drama series? She's the female equivalent of him. Her finding out about all these outside things may be a bit annoying to some, but I find her enthusiasm absolutely delightful. *Maurice LaMarche as Chancellor Neighsay everypony! For those unaware, Maurice is a voice acting god. He has done roles in animations like "Pinky and the Brain" and "Zootopia." So seeing him here is a great surprise. And he'll be back! Don't suppose we could get Rob Paulsen to do a role alongside Neighsay next time? *THE MOVIE IS CANON, FOLKS. THE MOVIE IS CANON. *The Gallus puppy dog eyes kill me. PWEEZ GWAMPA GWUFF *Gotta get an appearance from our favorite grey Pegasus... what was her name again? *The students' plan to reappear during the Friends and Family Day party is... actually pretty good. I like logic and the logic makes sense. Good on ya. *PUKWUDGIES! Another Harry Potter creature emerges in the Poniverse. *Love the busts of the Pillars of Old Equestria. They essentially formed the Mane 6's partnership - it would be right to give them some love at the school! *Oh, what up, Pharynx! I love the look on his face - he's just as confused as the rest of us. *CUPCAKES ARE BEST CAKES!!! And here are some moments from this episode that are getting an F: *Gotta love how Twilight says that the school is for every creature when Yona, Silverstream, Ocellus, Gallus, and Smolder ARE LITERALLY THE ONLY ONES OF THEIR SPECIES ATTENDING THE SCHOOL. (Spike doesn't count as he isn't a formal student.) *"They're gonna think I'm an egghead!" You admitted yourself in "Read It And Weep" that you're an egghead! *Is Grampa Gruff the grandfather of every griffon? We know he's at least Gilda's grandfather, but Gallus calls him Grampa, too, making Gallus and Gilda either siblings or cousins. It's all so confusing. *Poor Thorax being the only foreign leader who cares about peace. *Is Sandbar an orphan? He was the only significant student without an escort. *"Not even a princess can do whatever she likes when it comes to shaping young pony minds." Yeah, but... you're an all-powerful princess. Isn't that kinda the point? *How did that school building get put up so fast OH SCREW THIS *Fluttershy, I love you, but your gullibleness never ceases to amaze me. *The FRIENDSHIP School exercises corporal punishment! Also, they're fighting after what seems like a few days. Maybe it doesn't take that short of time for lessons to sink in? *Geez, Twilight shot back from her grief unusually fast. It's almost a bit unsettling. *Though the fight says a lot about how the Mane 6 aren't getting across to the students, it is a little brash to fight in a friendship school. *Chancellor Neighsay might be a big priss, but some of his points regarding the other creatures are valid. The Changelings, though they've been reformed for some time here, have only been nice for a little while in Equestria, not to mention Chrysalis is still on the loose. Meanwhile, Flash Magnus and the Royal Legion fought dragons in the past, with the dragons attacking first. And the yaks literally DECLARED WAR after the ponies didn't quite get their traditions right. *Twilight's kinda right - party cannons in a classroom might not end well. To close it out: An educational episode with outstanding political messages and adorable Changelings.
