so like. 12 episodes deep. so let's chat! specifically, what does "secret" means in the context of Himitsu no Aipri, actually?
So like, it's pretty evident that magical girl/magical idol series like AiPri are to some extent about the pursuit of the ideal self, right? And while there are many ways to go about doing that, there's pretty much Something you gotta do.
If you want to become better, you have to take a long hard look at the you of "now". What are you doing? Why are you doing it? How do you actually feel about it?
So, the "secret" refers to the Unknown Self, the things about you that you yourself are not unaware of, have forgotten, or something that you are purposefully hiding away from other people. While the "secrets" of the characters of the week can be relatively simple in nature (they cant find my aipri FA account theyll kill me), whenever we brush upon a Secret of the main cast, it's always very solid (hatred, love, jealousy, fear of abandonment, inadequacy, guilt are a few).
a real fun example is Sakura (and Tamaki). Sakura technically takes Himari in when her and the Student Council start producing Himari post-debut. We're intentionally supposed to see her as Reliable and Responsible especially as a senior to Himari, someone who's encouraging her growth! But then we get we get to her secret: Himari's presence as a newcomer with immense potential is actively flaring up a fear of weakness, stubborn pride, crushing competiveness into a really miserable cocktail that makes her abandon her most important tie (Tamaki) to solely devote herself to the pursuit of strength, to utterly crush Himari. All while masking it under a sense of responsibility to an alternate goal.
This naturally brings us to our second idea: what is "sharing a secret", then? In revealing a part of the Unknown Self to another, the intimacy between two people grows. Tamaki confronts Sakura backstage (i love the backstage in these shows, you know) about the matter. She doesn't condemn Sakura's feelings, that sense of pride and pursuit of dominance it something that she loves about Sakura, after all. Thus we get Tamaki's secret: she stands on stage not for herself, but the sake of propelling Sakura upwards, to become the only person Sakura can rely on, to gaze upon the face of the strongest closer than anyone. It's a really pellicular goal in midst of the spirit of competition and "I do this because its fun and I like it! :D" the other girls have about doing idol'ing. (Tamaki's coord/signature brand being named "Rosesession" is Really Good, by the way. Tamaki that's as subtle as a brick through a glass pane.). In confiding with each other, accepting all odd and messy feelings, our secrets become a tie between us, drawing us closer, a bond that no one in the world shares except us.....it's Good. I really like that kind of thing!
This might be seem like a odd detour, but I want to compare about the Nature of the metaphysical world that appears in AiPri (AiPriVerse) and Pripara (Pripara), a predecessor of the show.
Pripara is like, pretty much It's Own Entire World. Different nations whole cities, forests, deities, even! Despite the idoling focus, Pripara exists primarily as a social utopia where girls can be what they want, do what they want, and hang out with who they want that exists in parallel with the rather restrictive real world. You can hang there even if you're not really gung-ho about the idoling stuff I'd say counting the original 3 seasons, about 97% of it takes place within that world. There are many episodes iirc where we don't ever step foot in the real world*.
(I say "real world" as if Pripara is like. Not Real. But it very much is. Don't believe the digital metaverse-coat of paint they use to explain things occasionally, because more akin to like an alternate dimeson but that's a topic for another time.)
In contrast......AiPriverse seems to be pretty much the stage itself, and One Buliding? It's.......distractingly empty, and unlike Pripara it seems like the majority of girls *can't* go, and those who haven't gotten their hands on a bracelet can only interact with the space via the Internet, where they appear in the stage arena....as pretty much faceless figures. Isn't it so odd? There's a fashion store and even a cafe here, as if people should be here and mulling about! But there's nobody here........
The AiPriverse exists as a vehicle to express truth, to unveil and project a part of the Unknown Self. The AiPri girls also do livestream inside the very empty AiPriVerse cafe, which is often a more direct (but conflicted) expression of the same sentiment to those at home aside from singing. But the separation between idol and audience is interesting, isn't it? The PriFriends determine who's the best, they share their worries to the idols on their streams, put in requests for lives for idols to preform due to their own anxieties or desires.......but they're not here. They are those who are unable to confront and express the Unknown Self directly, but acknowledge its existence as a stressor and admire those who can. It's literally on-the-tin: the Door of Secrets that leads to AiPriVerse is a mirror, unlike the kiosk placed in a formal buliding like Pripara.
While the AiPriVerse exists as a tools its nature as a mostly empty space means that if we want to resolve our problems, we have to inevitably Come Back to the real world and get stuff done. Thus, unlike Pripara, most of the show actually takes place in the real world. Himari and Mitsuki's reconciliations mostly take place in the real world even after the AiPriVerse segment as if to hammer that idea home, despite them easily being able to do it in AiPriVerse post-lives since they both have access to the space.
......Which makes Tsumugi's existence, as a girl who seemingly lives exclusively in AiPriVerse, all that more bizzare. Never preformed, never streamed, seemingly never been come out of her room. When she preforms, she's not expressing something about herself-rather she copies Himari down to the letter. Tsumugi's entire identity is pretty much a secret, even to herself. I believe they've impiled that Tsumugi in some manner is able to go to the real world, long ago (which she encountered Himari at a beach, but it seems neither of them Remember That). I wonder there was something Tsumugi wanted to express, so she went to AiPriVerse...but at the end, she didn't have the will to go through it, deciding that forgetting everything and remaining there was the better option?
Anyway! This a good show, I like it. I'll be keeping this lense in mind because the only spoiler I know makes it Very Interesting, that'll be interesting to pick apart.......until next time!
#yeah im back on my overanalyzing kodomomuke anime grind. what are you gonna do about it?#nova's watching again#aipri

Almost at my 20s; am I too old to make manga digitally?
I’m almost at my 20s and I’m bad at completing comics stories to take action writing and making manga/webcomics. I just want to complete my own manga before age 20. But I’m bad at starting and figuring out how to translate what I thought about and put it down in words and on paper. Even though I didn’t know the words “manga” and “anime” as a kid, and only found it based on games and stuff (online and in some ticket redemption arcades), I loved comics and graphic novels and tv shows as a kid. But I also liked manga, and the art styles of shounen, shoujo, and kodomomuke manga and anime, as I grew older and found ways to watch it or read it online for free. So basically my goal is still sort of intangible to grab, but I love to draw and write stories and even wanted to complete my stories and share them with others. And I want to find a way to pursue these dreams, especially through making my own all-ages manga/comic. But I don’t know how to complete writing my own comic stories (and yes I know the 5 part plot structure) but how do I apply what I learned and made for my story and then write it down? And how do you write manga stories for “kodomomuke” and “all ages” (like similar to “Moomin”, or “Peanuts”)?
Has anyone started a manga/comic career when they were close to age 20? or even around their 20s? And have you used digital media for their manuscript“name” process for their manga, once they finished planning on paper and pencil? And has anyone started a career to make manga/webcomics in their 20s and can still maintain family life and bonds? I have some doubts that I can pursue my dream of writing and making all ages manga before I become 20 years old, because there was a Japanese mangaka Ran Tokiwa (ときわ藍 ) who won a grand prize at the 2015 77th Shogakukan Newcomer Comic Award Grand Prize…at age 14 (at the time of the contest)! Which is really good for her (and her art is really cute), but got me worried and nervous because I didn’t start immediately to get my work published as a middle school person. Also I do have a lot of manga stories, but I don’t know how to place my roleplaying story from thoughts, to notebook; Has any person around their 20s had this problem, and how did you solve it?

A lot of the anime you mentioned didnt air arround the same time or day-time as Sonic X, kids anime had different time slots, but kids anime generally do okay. Hamtaro and Ghost Stories for example had more viewers then Pokémon several times. I just think Sonic X didnt impress the Japanese kids. One Piece for example is geared towards a somewhat older audience.
That’s a very good point and I appreciate that distinction! One piece actually first started releasing in 1999 in Japan but 2003 in the US. There’s definitely a difference between your kodomomuke (children’s) anime slots and ones aimed for a slightly older crowd like the Shonen category.
I ought to have specified that the landscape of anime by the time Sonic X came out was bustling with really stand out shows that are expected to meet certain levels of standards even if it’s aimed towards children. I specifically chose those ones not just for US only peoples familiarity sake (not many kids here even knew about stuff like ghost stories or doraemon) but to validate the possibly controversial point that Sonic X isn’t really that exceptional of a show. Which it seems we ultimately agree on.
I think perhaps another reason why it struggled to capture their attention is it was sort of all over the place in regards to what kind of story it wanted to be. If you’re going to have a monster of the week episodic styled show based in “our” earth, the characters need to be compelling and interesting enough we get invested in their shenanigans or smaller moments. Especially if they’re stuck in one place most of the time. Sonic’s a great character but I personally feel in this version of him, they made him too distant and not the main focus for us to follow his thoughts and feelings or at least his perspective enough, instead using Chris as a surrogate to perform that role. And Chris is definitely not an interesting enough character for that haha
It was likely an attempt to emphasize Sonic’s free-spirited and unconfined personality but kinda just made him too reticent. He works best in stories where he’s the main character who’s facing against crazy enemies, conflicts and is always on the move but finds himself pairing up with his friends on the go. Where the location of each story changes, the people he meets changes and there’s a new problem or some story lore that gets uncovered in it
(Basically how he is in the games lol)
That’s not to say the set up can’t work, just they didn’t do anything truly unique with it. At least not enough compared to the other shows airing around the same time with similar set ups.
#it’s actually hilarious how similar of issues are with sonic x to the movies#just the Japanese version of it#Zoomer Sonic#ramble#text#anon

Could we get a breakdown of what goes into an episodes release? I've never thought of fansubbing needing more than one people to do them, and I'm curious.
Is that so? Most fansubbing and scanlation groups I'm familiar with are a team effort, but maybe I'm just out of touch! (´・ω・`)?
The core team is 2/3 ESL! We have other friends sometimes helping, and half of them are ESL as well. Outside of Japan, the English speaking fandom is really international! (●ˇ∀ˇ●)
The core team looks out for each other, and we cover for each other's weaknesses. For kumigashira's sake --and you, the viewer as well! (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ)
First Duck translates the raws--and it's all done by ear! They're really skilled and put a lot of time and effort into researching terminology and muromachi period specific things, such as weapons. You'd be surprised how in depth some things get for a kodomomuke anime. I highly recommend checking out the meta on their blog! (❁´◡`❁)
The ball then gets passed to Lizzie who proofreads the script since she's not just our resident native speaker, but she's quite the wordsmith! She helps us with localization as well. ♪(´▽`)
Finally, it's up to me. ( •̀ ω •́ )✧ I do the timing and encoding!
For what episodes we choose to translate, we have a shared file in which everyone gets to put in suggestions and a small description. Here's a sneakpeek of upcoming episodes... o(* ̄▽ ̄*)ブ
Teamwork makes the dream work!
Hopefully that explained what you were curious about... if there's anything else you'd like me to explain or go into detail about don't hesitate to ask.
Take care! ヾ( ̄▽ ̄) Bye~Bye~

Scanlation of the first chapter of Seishounen Ashibe (The Youth Ashibe). This is an official sequel manga to Shounen Ashibe (The Boy Ashibe), a gag manga which has received a couple of anime adaptations including the recent Shounen Ashibe: Go! Go! Goma-chan. (There's also an in-between series with the cast in elementary school.)
Important notes:
This has a lot of BL jokes and teasing. It is not BL. Sugao is officially dating Cit-chan from the original series, and Ashibe flirts with/crushes on a few different girls. The artist, Syohei, is a BL artist, and AFAIK this collaboration came about because the original author, Morishita Hiromi, liked her aged-up SugaAshi art. But Seishounen Ashibe is not BL.
The anime Go! Go! Goma-chan mostly comes across as kodomomuke. Seishounen Ashibe and the original manga are seinen. They literally could not be read by young children because the speech bubbles don't have any furigana. If you read this or the original manga, there will be adult jokes similar to the running gag that did make it into Go! Go! Goma-chan, about Yumiko's father being constantly mistaken for a pedophile but not really being one. In particular, Seishounen Ashibe has a main character who was introduced later into the original manga series. She was an older teen when Ashibe was a young child, and in SSA, we learn that she fell in love with him when he was about 12 or so and has been stalking/trying to woo him ever since. This comes up in a lot of SSA chapters! ❌DO NOT❌ look here for fluffy canon BL!
This is not a long-term commitment or even something on the level of my Osomatsu-kun TLs. I'm only translating a couple of chapters for fun!

I actually ended up with a younger sister too... with an age gap old enough for her to legally be my kid lol. And I can say... it STILL doesn't turn out like that a whole lot 🤣 (Who knew something so small could punch and kick so hard- 💀)
But Idaten Jump gave me a lot of amazing older sibling characters to emulate, so I try to be a cool and capable one like Kyoichi. But I'm pretty sure I'm turning out like Sho-
But yeah, I still like how Idaten Jump decided to focus on and glorify sibling relationships instead, because romantic relationships and friendships get that treatment in fiction often enough already lol. XD
Watch Ep. 29 of Idaten Jump here or with the link:
https://archive.org/details/idaten-jump-ep-29-eng-sub

I completely forgot to post it here 😭 I already uploaded it in the morning. I love this endscreen a lot, it's one of my favourites 🥺 Koei and Kiku are a wonderful duo. This anime really does sibling relationships so right.
❥ Taglist:
@idaten-jump @xzoneruler @sylvieserene @idatenjumpfanatic
#idaten jump#fandom discourse#shoujos focus on romance#shounens focus on friendship#so it's fitting that a kodomomuke like Idaten Jump focuses on sibling relationship instead#too bad there's no older sister as a major character though#ah well I'll take what I get#I can still try to be a Kyoichi to my little Makoto <3#even if I end up being a Sho instead X'D

also yes glitter force was actually totally normal for the age group, little kids shows never really stopped doing dubs like that, its not just pokemon. beyblades is still changing names etc. the only reason it shocked any anime fans was because precure happens to be one of the few kodomomuke franchises that actually have attention from older anime fans lol
the abnormal thing was that it wasn't selling toys. subbed precure was never something that distributors like netflix were interested in and certainly no TV networks, because the target audience can not read subs efficiently or at all in some cases and subbed anime isnt going to sell any magic wands to babies.
it being toy based kodomomuke is the reason crunchyroll isnt paying anymore attention than it already does for precure and why it seems like companies are so reluctant to pursue subs for any other magical girl or hero shows in the same age range, theyre ALL expected to get dubs and sell toys which requires getting deals with stores and the US toy companies, and preferably deals with tv networks and streaming thats popular with kids, on top of the expense of getting dub actors for a 50+ episode show. meanwhile shit called The Time I got Reincarnated as Some Smegma is a shorter show that costs way less and is guaranteed to perform better with the core otaku audience of anime platforms than like, himitsu no ai pri ever was.

so here's something to keep in mind in regards to anime
shoujo, shounen, josei, seinen and kodomomuke are not genres. they are demographics.
kodomomuke is anime aimed at children
shoujo is anime aimed at teenage girls
shounen is anime aimed at teenage boys
josei is anime aimed at mature women
and seinen is anime aimed at mature men
i feel like this is especially important as a lot of people go into these shows to complain that it's not catering to them and all i can think is "that's because you're not the target audience".
so just keep these demographics in mind before you watch something. if you're a woman who doesn't like anime aimed at men, then steer clear of the shounen or seinen labels.

🐈⬛Adrien Agreste🐈⬛
He is an ambivert (he loves to hang around with friends, but he likes to recharge when he can)
His favorite colors are black and green
He is panromantic asexual
Adrien took up modeling and bit of acting when he was twelve as a way to help his family stay afloat during Emilie’s degrading health period
The aesthetic he wears for his father is usually romantic academia, softboy, and vintage Parisian
He actually enjoys wearing whatever aesthetic as long as it matches, but his personal favorites are grunge and Vintage Parisian
He is a Libra and his birthday is in September
His love languages are words of affirmation and acts of service
Adrien actually likes fashion, but more on the line of looking aesthetically appealing. He still doesn’t like the style his father makes him wear
Adrien is good when it comes to offering fashion critic and advice
When he was young, his mom would tell him what each flowers they encounter or plant in the garden mean
As a kid, his parents would tell him the story of how they met and fell in love, and that aspired Adrien to find a romantic relationship like his parents one day
Adrien is book-smart and actually intuitive in terms of keeping an eye of a person’s emotions, like when he noticed how anxious Marinette is and try to communicate to her in her comfort zone. He just struggles with social skills and solving social problems like bullying
He is an empath who can pay attention to other’s emotions and take consideration of them
He has an interest in photography
His favorite literatures are classic novels and mangas
His favorite classic novels are fairy tales
His favorite manga genre is Shonen (action-comedy with a dash of coming-of-age elements like Dragon Ball and My Hero Academia), but he also likes Shojo (romantic drama/magical girls) thanks to Chloé, and Kodomomuke (young children like Pokémon)
His favorite video game genres are platformers, RPG, and MMORPG
He plays MMORPG games with his classmates frequently, but loves to play with Marinette, Nino, and Alya the most
Adrien always suspected Marinette could be Ladybug, but choose not to dive deep into it to respect her privacy
His favorite sports are basketball and fencing
After Plagg revealed magic is real, Adrien began researching and collecting books on magic and witchcraft that he keeps hidden behind his book decorations
Adrien doesn’t mind wearing makeup, though he prefers for it to be subtle
He loves getting his nails done, and used to do nail arts with Chloé when they were kids
#miraculous ladybug#adrien agreste#miraculous adrien#miraculous headcanon#some headcanons will come from the miraculous characters official instagram as well#will edit or update overtime if i come up with new headcanons#miraculously sakura’s world

Beyblade X chapter 1 live(?)-blogging
[warning: beyblade X manga spoilers, I guess? it's only got a prologue and one chapter out tho so does it even count]

excuse me waiter sorry there's a danganronpa in my beyblade
can I just say I love how much the prologue spends setting our expectations for this standard kodomomuke journey with bird just beating everyone and being carried by excitement about his new hyperfixation

and then, chapter 1 starts...

HE LOSES SO HARD HE GETS THE COLOR KICKED OUT OF HIM
honestly great use of colored pages, 10/10

finally after the likes of takao and gingka we get a guy who just sucks and I'm so here for it
showing his friends in the prologue and then immediately disbanding that team in chapter one when they call come to grips with the fact that they're not as good as they thought is a genuinely great move, I love it, I'd expect nothing less from the mangaka of-

oh
oh no
