in response to both (because there’s apparently two) discourses, i say one single sentence: ship and let ship.

Public announcement that sometimes I become a hotspot for random drama and problems that I did not cause
So if you see a bunch of discourse with my blog url tied up in it, there’s like an 80% chance the whole thing has nothing to do with me, actually

You ever think about how some kotlc fans unironically think that Sophie would change her last name to Sencen after marrying Keefe? And start crying at how terribly your blorbos have been misinterpreted? Cause same

can I be blunt? I think the reason the anons were sent to you is because you’re one of the aforementioned ‘painfully cishet’ people, no one wanted to start a debate in a random ship blog’s ask box, and you’re one of the most well known new people
Well I’m definitely a cishet person who is painfully responding to all the asks I got about this situation

wasn't sarcastic, because I saw two different people claiming it happened...?
is this a pissing on the poor situation?
Might be a pissing on the poor situation? I actually don’t think it’s reading comprehension that’s the issue though. I think it’s more like, I was sent an anonymous ask I barely responded to, a bunch of other people responded, and from the wording of the ask people made an educated guess that cishet people were saying they were oppressed for being cishet. Which makes sense! because that would have given the anon an actual reason to write the ask they wrote. But yeah that didn’t happen. I’ve not handled the situation in the clearest way possible so, sorry about that, but yeah. no cishet people saying they’re oppressed in this corner of the internet 👍

wait can you link the part where people claimed cishet people were oppressed because I can't find it
Can’t tell if this is a sarcastic ask or not. But that did not happen. No one said that. Not one person.

Okay, this is the anon from before and I see that many responses have been made. Clearly. Bad faith insults aside, I was not saying cishet people said they were oppressed, but rather saying that when people are “mean” to cishet people they are simply making up for years of being on the receiving end of homophobia. Even if “equality” is achieved, there still isn’t a true balance if we are expected to ignore all past homophobia. It’s basically striking back to get rid of lingering cishetallo privelege.
I apologize for putting you in the middle of this. That wasn’t my intention. I sent the ask to your blog because I saw that you had received another, shorter ask about the topic, and I know that you respond graciously to asks about lots of topics, including discourse asks. I can tell this is something that has upset you and I am sorry for that. I did not expect to spark a fandom wide discourse and put you at the center of the drama.
Definitely still not sure how I feel about the “balancing the scale” idea. Tentatively I want to say that two wrongs don’t make a right, but also I can’t tell if you’re talking about making actual silly jokes (like my IRL friends teasing me for being the token straight girl in the musical, or being like “this is a no straight people allowed space!” before letting me in because they weren’t planning on actually being exclusionary) or being like, actually mean. Aaaand I still feel weird commenting on this as a cishet person myself soooo seeing myself out!
Apology accepted, anon. It’s ok. You didn’t know it was going to become a whole thing and neither did I

Thanks semper! Yeah this anon is definitely in better taste than the other two, and they actually sent a follow up ask basically stating their point again and then apologizing for putting this on my blog. And yes I do see what you were responding to. Thanks for the advice about dealing with anons! Hopefully everything just… *peaceful calm breeze sweeps by the kotlc fandom*
it’s like balancing a scale. Homophobic people treated people in the LGBTQ community as lesser and there was significantly less representation for us in media. So jokes about people being too straight or making all the characters in a book we like gay are to balance that out. Making it so there’s and equal number of gay and straight people in a book doesn’t cut it because for so long the books were dominated by straight people. That’s why I personally am annoyed with the new influx of straight shipping. (Not the original anon)
hello

im really confused but what is the kotlc cishet discourse?????
don’t even worry about it, it was a whole weird thing that happened, I’d say the mandatory takeaway is everyone is allowed to exist and do whatever makes them happy

in response to both (because there’s apparently two) discourses, i say one single sentence: ship and let ship.
