I’ve been having a ton of fun playing with different hairstyles for Gem. This one has quite a lot going on:

Two braided pigtails, double buns, full fringe, and loose short hair in the back…

But I adore it.

I tried it and damn…I’ve never been so proud of a pair of bananas before.

For some reason, it’s difficult for me to translate these techniques to character drawings. Balancing the line art with the colouring is hard, resisting the urge to over blend everything is hard, lighting…yeah. But I think bananas is a good place to start :)

I absolutely adore your art style!! If it’s not too much trouble, could you share a bit of your drawing process? I want to get better at digital art and your art is so inspiring <3

First of all, how dare you make me tear up. Second, my style is a trial and error type of process. That being said, I'll try to explain my way of art🎨. Presto lecture yaaayy!!!🤓

[No background - use grey canvas)

1. Draw as many sketches as needed and then turn them to the lowest opacity so that your line art is accurate. (I always kind of hated my line art, so I began to draw over it)

2. Fill in with muted and even darker colours. Use brighter colours where the light would be or is the main focus. Don't be scared of using dark colours in shadows. Use a lot of greyish tones (grey is litterly the most magical colour to ever exist)

3. If needed, change the colour of the line art (red near skin).

4. Draw over the line art to create highlights or just to correct mistakes. It gives a more fleshy feeling.

If my bg is way too detailed or the characters are not central, I draw the bg first. It helps with the colouring in the long run. Otherwise, I use the same methods.

I don't use too many brushes (prob 4 - 7), even if the material differs. I recommend checking out "Neytirix" on YouTube, as that is where I take a lot of colouring inspiration. Also, I use shit ton of references (can't draw if I don't know how the light interacts😭). That's probably it, don't know what else to say...

I've been so indecisive with Gem‘s fish merchant design, so I tried making a digital sketch and…excuse the state of it. Idk why but I always rush through my drawings whenever I do digital. Gotta practise more ;-;

I still want to add a bunch of trinkets to her belt, maybe a sheath too, but I think I‘ve got the basic design down.

Just as I finished, the idea of her having octopus tentacle hair popped into my head…but I‘ll hold off on it for now.

I Turned 'I Turned Last Life Into a Song' Into an Animation!

The Last Life song by ​⁠Evil Anvil has been stuck in my head so I just had to get this out there.

I tried to make it so each lyric visually flows into the next. For example, Skizz smashing Mumbo's obsidian and end crystal together, the explosion of which is being watched by Grian, who is then interrupted by Scar pitching his Magic Blocks™.

Hopefully that came across… I put a lot into this :´)

Posting more wip stuff because I’m scared I’ll mess up the rendering…and because I just love fish merchant Gem SO MUCH arrrghhh

It’s also taking me 10x longer than with my trusty pens and watercolours, but I’m really enjoying the digital art process and I’ll definitely start doing it more often again :)

I'm using colour for once! I can fully capture the lusciousness of the moss sweater now.

Something about the way I drew Etho was throwing me off... maybe I'll post the full version once l've coloured him in. For now, just imagine him off to the right, running away after nabbing Bdub's bed.

Resisting the urge to add colour, because if I do Cleo, then I’ll have to do everyone else too… I’ve already been working on this animatic for too long.

I’m trying to stick to just the hair + an accent colour but its SO HARD.
