Mare Cognitum ("The Sea that has Become Known") with Kuiper crater at the center // l'AstroVan
Mare Cognitum ("The Sea that has Become Known") is the landing sites of several lunar missions. Ranger 7 (1964) impacted here after its mission was finished; Surveyor 3 (1967) and Apollo 12 (1969) landed near its northern shore; and Apollo 14 (1971) landed near this mare as well.
Kuiper crater is named after the Dutch-American astronomy Gerard Kuiper (1905-1973), the father of modern planetary science

Highlights: - James Webb Space Telescope Observations: Dive into the fascinating findings from the JWST as it examines the near-Earth asteroid 2024 YR4. Discover how this mission not only provides critical data about the asteroid's size and thermal properties but also enhances our planetary defense strategies against potential threats. - Amazon's Project Kuiper Launch: Get ready for the launch of Amazon's first operational satellites as part of Project Kuiper. We explore the implications of this ambitious initiative to create a global broadband Internet constellation and its competition with other satellite networks. - Surprising Discoveries in Galactic Evolution: Uncover the shocking evidence that massive galaxies were already quiescent just 700 million years after the Big Bang. This revelation challenges existing cosmological models and reshapes our understanding of galaxy formation and evolution. - Japan's Innovative Mars Landing Technology: Learn about JAXA's new approach to Mars landings using inflatable decelerators, which could revolutionize how we deliver rovers to the Martian surface. This innovative technology promises to lower costs and enhance mission efficiency. - Understanding Martian Dust Storms: Explore new research revealing the triggers behind Mars's massive dust storms, which pose significant challenges for future exploration. This study aims to develop forecasting capabilities for Martian weather, crucial for the safety of future missions. For more cosmic updates, visit our website at astronomydaily.io. Were Terra's Kuiper Droids rebels?
Tumblr media
Not technically, everyone was just taking orders from their superior, but there may be a possibility that some of them were rebels, but we will never know.

random fact:
Yang does the lil hand flaps when there excited or happy
*SKIDDADLES AWAY*
HAHAHA AN EXCUSE TO DO RAMBLE THINGS?
Ones who clap when happy: Eclipse, Sun, sometimes Lune, Jingle J. Jester, Pumpkin, Strudel
Ones who get bouncy (i.e. bouncing on heels, swishing from side to side, just moving a lot): Dawn, Sun, Moon, Pumpkin, Strudel
Ones who express it vocally (making noises: giggling squeaking or what have you): Midnight, Dusk, Sun, Moon, Pumpkin, Strudel
THE LITTLE SMILE. YOU KNOW THE ONE. FROM THE CALM OR GRUMPY CHARACTER. REALLY SLIGHT: Dawn, Kuiper, Kabocha, Lune
Ones who get fidgety: Strudel, Sun, Pumpkin, Lune, Eclipse
Becomes spaghetti: Noon

College was the fulfillment of my dreams: I found teachers who not only understood science, but who were actually able to explain it. I was lucky enough to attend one of the great institutions of learning of the time, the University of Chicago. I was a physics student in a department orbiting around Enrico Fermi; I discovered what true mathematical elegance is from Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar; I was given the chance to talk chemistry with Harold Urey; over summers I was apprenticed in biology to H. J. Muller at Indiana University; and I learned planetary astronomy from its only full-time practitioner at the time, G. P. Kuiper.
From “The Demon-Haunted World: Science as a Candle in the Dark” by Carl Sagan, 1995.
This is fucking insane, y’all. All these people have important scientific things named after them, Nobel prizes, or both.
Fermi worked at Los Alamos and created the first nuclear reactor, Chandrasekhar revolutionized our understanding of the relationship between stellar mass and lifespan, Urey is one-half of the duo with the iconic experiment behind our current understanding of the origins of life on planet Earth, Muller (despite being a eugenicist, ew,) discovered that X-rays cause damage to DNA and thus mutations, and Kuiper was (one of) the first planetary scientists.
I talk about the ideas of these guys in my classes every year! And all of this was in the previous century! Hell, Hubble only proved conclusively that there are other galaxies outside the Milky Way in Ninteen-twenty-four! Less than a hundred years ago.
What else will we learn in the next hundred????

(just to clarify the handcuffs are not kinky they are the only thing I could find that related to Kuiper's time with Count Dooku being tortured as the Jedi council abandoned him

Strudel, Jingle J. Jester, and Kuiper Readjusting
Strudel was the first to exit rest mode after transport. They looked around the room they now found themselves in. Two beds paired with a small drawer, each in a corner, and a box containing the belongings of all three attendants from their location in the middle of the room
Kuiper was in the other bed from Strudel, and Jingle Jester was presumably in their metal box in the corner.
She would NOT like that when she woke up, Strudel mused to themselves,  sliding off the bed and walking to the large box and opening the top to allow light inside. That would bring Jingle comfort when they woke.
Strudel then gravitated to the cardboard box of belongings. They removed their own items; spare bells, a scrapbook full of kid's drawings, and an 'emergency craft kit' containing three sheets of paper, a baggie of ten googly eyes, safety scissors, and a single jar of maroon glitter glue. They placed the items atop the drawer next to their desk.
Now, they wait for the others
~~~~~
The first thing Jingle J. Jester was aware of is that they were back in their box. Without a second thought they sprung out and onto the floor, their many bells jingling and alerting Strudel to their presence.
"Jinglie! Good afternoon~!" Strudel chimed, skipping over to their companion and offering her their hand. She took it and hopped up into her feet, before immediately lifting Strudel off the ground.
"Strudel! Hi! Are we here now? Are we staying here?" Jingles asked, rocking back and forth.
"I think so. I haven't heard much since I activated. I'm so glad you're awake now, I was *dreadfully* bored!" Strudel exclaimed, unbothered by the fact that they were being restrained above the ground.
"Do we have games? Can we play games?" Jingle asked, nay, pleaded.
"I'm sure we can find something, but be careful, Kuiper isn't up yet, okay?"
"Okay!"
~~~~~
Kuiper was slow to power up. They took a long while to wake - their literal internal system was rather strict, only activating them when it was 'naptime' or when children under the age of five were present. Manually booting them up was likewise a nightmare - it was good for saving money on electricity costs, but not so much for Strudel and Jingle Jester getting to interact with them.
Strudel, of course, knew the moment Kuiper was going to power on and paused their game with Jingle - a strange wordplay game that the two were very good at - to sit down and wait for Kuiper. Jingle clapped their hands in excitement, impatient to be able to speak with their other parent figure.
Kuiper's metal eyelids raised halfway - as they only ever did - and they sat up, crossing their legs and resting their four arms on their lap. They looked at Strudel and Jingle with a nod of acknowledgement before looking around the room. It was... smaller than they would have expected, considering it was housing three animatronics. Then again, Jingle was likely expected to remain in her box.
What a stupid idea. She hated the box.
"Did you sleep well?" Jingle asked, to which Kuiper let out a small amused huff.
"Yes." They didn't sleep, not really, but they had no issue with indulging in Jingle's question nonetheless. Despite the jester being significantly taller than Kuiper and Strudel, they seemed much more akin to a child than an actual adult.
"Would you like to join us in our game, Kuiper? I think you'd do really well!" Strudel chimed.
"I'd love to."
