Iâve been thinking about the big deities of Hyrule and decided to make designs for different deity designs.
Hylia is the Goddess of Heroes, ordered by the golden three to watch over the Triforce when they left. She is the goddess of Hyrule, though it existed when she no longer existed because she gave up her immortality to defeat Demise. So really, no goddess protects the Triforce, and instead it scattered after ocarina of time when Ganondorf tried to grab it. But yeah Hyrule is kind of a mess with no Goddess to protect it. I lvoe big bird woman but honestly, I wanted her to look like Hylians so sheâs a regular Hylian with some godly designs added. Yayy.
Then thereâs Labryn, the war god of Labrynna. Heâs focused on war and strategy and so he has the owl insignia to kind of represent Nayruâs wisdom. Heâs kind of meant to be a mixture of Ares and Athena. Heâs fun! Very rageful and has no respect for Hylia or her heroes. Hope he doesnât create a labyrinth to test a hero đł thatâd be crazy tho
Then we got Hollow and Drumm, the dancing gods of Holodrum. I want that kingdom to be focused on entertainment so I gave them the comedy and tragedy masks which is fun. Their designs are loosely based after the oracle Din too and yeaaaah. Idk what they do but they just kinda vibe and do their own thing.
Then thereâs Oshus, king of the oceans. I feel like the ocean is its own domain, itâs own kingdom. I mean in our world, the ocean is its own world, so it makes sense for the ocean here to be separate from the kingdoms on land. So Oshus is doing his own thing and watching over the world of the ocean. And I also just love him. Def adding a ton of power to him, putting him on the same level as Hylia but idc itâs what he deserves. Now, if he was so powerful, why couldnât he defeat Bellum? Well⌠Hylia had Demise soâŚ. And she didnât survive that battle soooooâŚ. Tho heâs not involved with Hyrule, Oshus has a lot more respect for Hyrule and its hero after phantom hourglass :3c
And idk, I wanted to draw Loria. Idk how her world exists sheâs just kinda there vibin.
#I love adding lore and worldbuilding thatâs not supported by canon at all! :D#legend of Zelda#legend of Zelda au#Oshus#Hylia#Loria#Labryn#hollow#drumm#Loria was hard#I like her tho sheâs pretty#deities

Hyrule headcannons because :)
he doesn't actually understand Hylian Sign, he grew up in Calatia and knows their sign, but he's still new to Hylian anything, but since the others don't realize this, he sometimes gets left out of conversations
He's bi-lingual, Calatian and Hylian both, with a small smattering of Labryn
he absolutely loves sweet things, with a preference for sugary items over juicy ones
he tends to save extra non-perishable foods in his bag for a rainy day
he has a favorite type of bug, and yes, it's based off of flavor
he adores butterflies and likes finding out new kinds, because their wings are all so pretty and unique (he will not eat them)
he knows a lot about geology, just not the proper terms. he has his own vernacular for geological happenings, but he has a good grasp on the science of it all outside of that
he's better attuned to magical signatures than the rest of the chain
he likes Wild as a person, but while they share interests and habits, Wild's magic is strongest when he's doing what he loves and because his magic is Very Off-Putting, it makes it hard to be around him for extended periods
he has so many unspoken puns. Pun King. He doesn't think they'd be appreciated by the others, but he's biding his time until they're all comfortable enough with each that it won't matter
his favorite color is yellow because that's how his parents described the sun before Ganon's power corrupted the world
he's very good at weaving, and while art isn't his thing so much, designing new patterns for his fabric is a fun past time when he's very bored
because Hylian culture is new to him, he's been studying it a lot and, unlike the others, has already pieced together a rough timeline
he actually doesn't care much for his fairy form and only uses it when he needs to, mostly because he perfers the freedoms that having a larger body gives him, even if flying is nice
the idea of birds is still very new to him, and he tends to be off-put by bird-song and the sound of wings; the world making noise is still weird to him
while he's okay with having someone treat his wounds, he's very insistent about clean-up afterwards due to his blood being a key to resurrect Ganon. He's not above using Legend's hemophobia as an excuse either, if it gets him out of explaining
a bit of a clean freak in general, he likes to keep his items in perfect condition and organized, even his cave has precise places for everything
while birds are off-putting, he likes feathers, he likes collecting fallen ones to wash and tusk in his bag, not to use on anything particularly, just because they're pretty
he thinks cows are one of the most beautiful creatures in the world (Malon loves it)
he's very particular about gift giving; showing thanks is important, but giving gifts out of the blue feels rude because it makes others feel awkward, still, he'll make sure to return any gift given to him, usually with a particularly pretty feather, rock, or a small woven trinket
during long winters he used to build tiny houses with sticks to entertain himself, and his designs are very intricate at times
his favorite type of food (outside of sweets) is soups, he fully supports food being drinkable and when Wild introduced him to smoothies (sweet and drinkable) he fell in love
he loves art, although he doesn't care to try making it, but legend's sketching and Sky's carving have his full support and awe. Aurora likes to paint as well and he can spend hours just watching her work
he's terrified of babies, he's certain he'd either break them or get them sick or somehow screw them up, so bringing a baby in the room is one of the quickest ways to make him leave
in contrast, he loves cats and handles them like most people do babies

Father of Time Chapter 48: Labryn and Holo
It was still early morning, mere moments before dawn, when four deities appeared on the platform by the Ocean Temple in Akkala. An early morning priest froze in shock, then hurried out the temple and up the hill into town. Nocturne gave him little notice; they would not be here long enough to worry about the mortals noticing a gathering. He glanced around, taking in the sight of his Brother's home not shrouded in rain and mist and pushed aside the pang of sadness that plucked at him when he thought of how much Link would enjoy seeing it; summer in Akkala was a much different experience than autumn. He could think of that later though. For now, there was a duty to uphold.Â
It was not long before Oceanis vaulted out of the salty water before the others, already sweeping Hebra up in an enthusiastic hug. "Sister! You are looking much better! Thank you for hurrying, all of you!" He gasped when he saw Satori and quickly let go of the goddess to wrap his arms around the glowing, blue neck. "Satori, my Brother! Nocturne mentioned he saw you! I am so glad you could come!"Â
And then he moved on to Aevum, picking her up and spinning her around with enthusiastic glee despite her loud protestations. When she stopped his time and squeezed out of his embrace, he laughed as he shook the effect off and turned towards Nocturne. The embrace between the two was less cheerful, more reserved, and held a feeling of sorrow for the one missing, but Oceanis smiled all the same.Â
Ooooohhhh POV switch! Bet you weren't expecting that! I'm still a little behind on my writing but managing to keep up this four day schedule! Even if it's more of an afternoon release than a midnight one. Still not too bad!
And my birthday is TWO DAYS AWAY! More FoT content coming out then! I'm really excited about Link and the Deity, not gonna lie.

Not canonical to the show nor my OCs story, but it was an interesting idea that I wanted to write out especially as I fully flesh out what happened to Regin's mom
TRIGGER WARNING: For a parent death
"So what exactly are we looking for here?" Regin asked, brow arched at Hunter. He nervously scratched under his sleeve as he looked around, it felt so weird, and so wrong to be in his father's mind.
"I just want to see what your dad knows about Emperor Belos o-or the Day of Unity... anything.." Hunter explained, on edge, looking around at Darius's memories.
Regin hummed, nodding slightly, it wasn't going to hurt to look, he supposed, there had been so much buzz, everything seemed so weird. Regin would be lying if he said he didn't want answers too. But surely there was another way to find them. He recalled Hunter saying he'd already been in the Emperor's mind, but there were at least eight others they could look into. Then again, his connections did make his father easier to get ahold of comparatively. They'd already seen about three none of which proved useful.
"Hey, this one looks interesting," Hunter stated, the one he pointed to displayed a house on fire and Regin had to narrow his eyes. Something about it seemed familiar but surely not. He'd remember a fire.
"Well let's get it over with," Regin shrugged, and the two stepped in. As soon as they did, a scent even more familiar filtered into Regin's nose. Cinnamon, he knew it was a smell that drove Darius crazy, but only one person ever got by with wearing it near him. Regin now had a sinking feeling, moving a step back, his breath hitched as two familiar voices now came into scene.
"The Emperor is not someone you say no to, Labryn! Trust me, I don't want this consume my life anymore than you do...!" Darius scolded coming into the two teens view.
"Then step down! Everyone knows others have before!! Why does it have to be you!?" a female with lavender shoulder length hair and the same piercing black eyes as Regin had, another feature he shared were the black little freckles, only hers were vibrant against red cheeks.
"....Whoa.." Hunter murmured, "Reggie, is that..."
"...My mama," Regin confirmed finishing Hunter's thought, unable to take his gaze off her, a face he'd only seen in pictures, but she was just as Darius described her in the stories he told about her. The sickening feeling in his stomach only grew, making Regin stumble back a few steps.
"He just does! Do you realize what he could do to our family if I disobey him??"
"Surely he couldn't be so cruel! Regin is almost two and he hardly recognizes your face! This job expects too much! Darius, please. Y-you could step down and all three of us could just run away..!"
Darius pinched the bridge of his nose, "Please don't make it sound so romantic, Labby. We both know what this marriage is. Purely transactional, a mutual agreement to keep both our families off our backs. We agreed to that."
"So then you don't care about what happens with Regin?" Labryn demanded.
"Don't you dare even imply that. You know I'd do anything for our boy! That's why I stay! Because he'll be safe under Emperor Belos's pay-" Darius was cut off with something hitting and rumbling all throughout the house, "...what was that?"
Without getting an answer, there was a second and suddenly burning fire filled everyone's noses. The reason this was so familiar finally struck Regin.
"H-Hunter... Hunt. We need to get out. Now."
"Wh-what? But we haven't gotten an answer yet! Let's go outside and see who's attacking the house, maybe we can get some answers..!"
Regin opened and closed his mouth, wanting to deny, knowing where this memory was going, but he nodded regardless figuring answers might come in, and as long as they found some before the final event, what could it hurt? Not that this thought process helped the feeling in his gut, "Ok... but something tells me we won't like what we find, Hunt..."
In the background they could gear the chaos, especially as more rumblings shook the home, and desperate yells for one of them to gather Regin. The teenagers ignored this the best that they could, sneaking out the side window. As they landed on the ground, both boys looked around, balls of fire were quickly eating away at the home, smoke filtering into the air. Neither spotting anything having the further disadvantage of it being night out but as more people advanced on the house, the more they recognized the masked figures, soldiers for the Emperor's Coven, all the more terrifying, some did have and were making balls of fire to launch at the house.
"Th-the Emperor's Coven killed my mom.... Emperor Belos ordered them to kill my mom... at the very least..." Regin mumbled in realization, tears swelling up in his eyes. As more of the home turned to ash, the roof caved in collapsing right as Darius managed to get out, a wrapped squirming and wailing bundle in his arms. Realizing the memory was coming to an end, and having enough suitable proof, Hunter tugged at Regin's arm.
"Reggie, Reg.... cmon," he murmured, "come on, let's go..!"
"W-wait..!" Regin pointed to a silhouetted figure finally gaining light, it seemed from the embers but, had they looked over, it would've been because Darius noticed the same figure. Emperor Belos himself.
Hunter swallowed but further coaxed and pulled Regin until they were out of the memory. As soon as the air no longer reeked of smoke, Regin fell. First at his knees, then further in an almost fetal position, silent tears spilling from his eyes. A hand barely covering his mouth, as though there were any cries to silence. Hunter frowned, guilt and a gross feeling coursing all through him. He knelt down by Regin's rather pathetic form.
"Reg... I'm so sorry..." he mumbled running a gloved hand through his hair, "I-I didn't think...-"
"I-I will never serve under Belos," Regin uttered, "th-those dreams are out the window Hunt... I-I can't... I can't!! H-he.... he..." the silence was finally fully swallowed by a sob racking Regin's form, quivering from the top of his head to the ends of his toes.
Hunter's gaze softened at his best friend's reaction, one he surely couldn't have seen since they were both toddlers, though even then it didn't sound near as broken as Regin did right now. He swallowed, "Hey, cmon. We found some proof," Hunter murmured, the realization that Belos was as bad as he seemed not only from his memories but now someone else's, "Let's get outta here," he held his hand out.
Regin swallowed back a cry, instead releasing it in a shallow breath, but he nodded in agreement all the same, taking Hunter's hand. Hunter helped pull him up and guide him out.

The Royal Family of Hyrule in my fic-verse, set between Spirit Tracks and the height of the Sheikah Civilization. Arcturam is a fairly young king in his mid-thirties and Ambi is a similarly-aged former princess of the Labrynna Isles. Zelda is thirteen years old and dutiful in her studies, but with a bit of a rebellious streak. After years of argument with her parents, she happily wears Sheikah-inspired fashions rather than the traditional Hylian and Labryn ones the King and Queen would prefer.

You may have gotten this ask before, but Iâll ask again. Any smutfic recs?
Sorry it took me so long to update this! Vacation has been sucking away my drive to accomplish anything.
I do have some favorite smutfics! This list is by no means comprehensive, but itâs a good start. :) Iâll include my own at the end in case youâre curious.
A few of my favorites:
âDon Juan Conqueredâ by Aquandrian (E/C)
âOld Hauntsâ by @wheel-of-fish (and she certainly has other M-rated stuff) (E/C)
âIf This Be Heaven or Hellâ by @morrigan24601 (E/C)
âSherryâ by Kryss LaBryn (E/C)

âWifely Dutiesâ by @rienerose (E/C)
âAwakeningâ by @madiamazing (ongoing) (Christine/everyone)
âRitualâ by @bogglocity (Christine/Daroga)
My own smutfics:

âWhite Christmasâ (Erik/Daroga)
âSweetâ (Erik/Daroga)

âJust Between Usâ (Christine/Erik/Daroga)
I hope that at least gives a starting point. :)

Iâve been thinking about the deities I created for the Zelda universe a little too much and now IâmâŚ. In too deep
So first of all, Labrynna and Holodrum seems to house the oracles Nayru and Din, so I called them the lands of Wisdom and Power respectfully. The golden goddesses are the highest of goddesses since they created the world, and so the oracles travel the lands, with the deities watching over.
Ok so buckle up cuz Iâm gonna super ramble here
Nayru, Din, and Farore both created the world, and left behind the Triforce. They are extremely powerful, but a mysterious force that devoured everything, Null began to cause issues for them. Needing to protect the Triforce which could protect or destroy the world they created, they asked their youngest sister Hylia to protect it, which is why the Triforce and the hero is housed in the land of Hyrule (Hylia summoned a hero to help protect the land from danger). Hylians are the most like the goddesses and long ears and blonde hair are considered highly attractive
Anyways, while Hylia was tasked in protecting the Triforce, the other younger sister, Loria, was tasked in containing Null, since Lorule sorta reminds me of the rifts in eow (tho I should really play ALBW. The vibes are there tho).
Loria ended up losing her life and used the rest of her power to create the little tris to seal the rifts, and this is because of Demise, a demon that appeared and desired the power of the Triforce. Where he came from is unknown, but he entered the land of the Triforce to steal it, and the war happened and Hylia gave up her mortality to stop Demise and protect the triforce. Rip the queens.
Then the rest of the gods appeared, who were not related to the golden three and used to be mortal.
Labryn was a human who saw his family fall apart after one of his brothers killed the other (kind of like Cain and Abel). He is the war god, but he actually hates war and does not want anyone to raise their weapons against their own with no justification, since he saw what it can do. Heâs more like Athena than anything, not so much Ares. During the early years of Hyrule, the interloper war began, and the Triforce was once again threatened. With the main protector gone, the goddesses asked Labryn to create light spirits to banish the interlopers, whom he carved out of wood, thus creating the light spirits of Hyrule. They live in the land of Hyrule since thatâs where the Triforce is housed. Afterwards, Labryn meets and falls madly in love with a simple noble woman, a mortal, and he gets married to her and they have children. These children are eventually crowned as rulers of Labrynna. Eventually, a war takes place and many innocent leaves to new land south of Hyrule and create Ordon, whom Labryn sends the last light spirit he created, Ordona, to watch over. Ordona is like his pet and he adores her. Ordona protected Ordon so well that Hyrule didnât even know about their new neighbors until after the execution of Ganondorf. Now Labryn spends his time alone since his wife was a simple mortal and unfortunately passed, and he tries to make sure his descendants rule righteously, tho interacting with the mortals is heavily advised against, so thereâs only so much he can do.
Hollow and Drum used to be Gerudo sisters who believe in entertainment and fun. Thereâs only so much you can do without allowing yourself some pleasantries. I wish I could say I have more on them but I do not :( but thatâs some important info! They donât speak, but they communicate through their dancing. Their vibes is kinda like Yaelokre if yâall know that, idk why. Just masked, childlike beings that sing and dance (tho they donât actually sing lol)
Then Ram. There is no canon land of courage, and I donât think Hyrule is that land because of the balance of the three Triforce pieces, so I went ahead and created a new land myself. Totally original and not from any game lol. Ram is the god of agriculture and honestly anything like that. He definitely intermingles with the people of his land and has had several children with several women. The people there look like Hylians but are not, with more long and roundish ears compared to the delicate, pointy ears of Hylians. They also can live for a very long time, unless they leave the presence of Ram. They live completely separate from others and do their own thing, living off the land and sticking close to Ram. Ram was originally a Zonai, and everyone in his land knows him personally. Theyâre extremely strict and overly zealous, and do not like outsiders
Then Oshus, who was originally a leviathan. I love him sm, and he protects the entirety of the ocean, which has its own issues like with Bellum and stuff. Iâm just gonna say that Bellum took his wings hence why he has none. Not much to say, just think of phantom hourglass.
Now, itâs important to note that these deities became deities around the time Hylia fought Demise, but there was one that suddenly vanished. One that resembles the goddesses with his longer ears, Link, who was turned into the Fierce Deity. Except he didnât join his fellow deities after they reached godhood, instead he was sent to the mysterious and abandoned world of Termina. Since he returned to Hyrule, the deities have grown uncomfortable with his sudden presence.
Some stuff: Hyrule has the hero and priestess, Labrynna has the oracle Nayru, Holodrum has the oracle Din, Ramenia has the oracle Farore, and the ocean has the three fairy spirits Ciela, Neri, and Leaf!
And yeah! Hytopia worships Hylia, theyâre just kinda there tho vibin. Yeah too much worldbuilding but⌠I love that about Zelda. I can just take the patterns of the lore and do my own thing with them. Hope you guys like the lore :))) and I hope it makes sense! If you have any questions, let me know! Iâm also bending canon just a smidge here but itâs still fun! I try to be somewhat accurate to the important stuff!
#I was supposed to go to bed an hour ago#legend of Zelda#legend of Zelda au#Zelda au#deities#I need a tag for all of these guys#is it obvious that I love Labrynna#also remember me talking about how Linebeck doesnât feel Hylian to me?#Iâm making him come from the land of Ramenia#except his father left and so he ages normally and is away from Ram#echoes of wisdom spoilers#because of Null#again if yâall have questions feel free to ask!#I have been thinking about this for an unhealthy amount of time#Zelda oc

4, 11, 12 for the Other Universe twinsies.. ? đŤś
i don't know them... you are making me use my noggin.... sylvari ask game!
4- How was their awakening? Did something particular happen? What's their first memory?
I think they woke up separate which was VERY disorienting for Kabria, because they had just spent the entire dream together, practically finishing each other's.... s. sandwiches. Now Labryn was just gone and it seemed like half of herself had vanished as well. (They reunited a little later. and learned that they Didn't like each other.)
11- Have they ever changed their own appearance? Was it intentional or due to external factors? Did it affect their glow as well? How long did it take? Would they ever change back?
Kabria has changed her foliage... the two of them had identical hairstyles when they awoke, and Kabria couldn't stand seeing her twin in her reflection, so she changed it over several months.... and then the next time she saw Labryn, she had also changed her hair. Neither of them would change it back.
12- What do they usually wear? Do they prefer regular clothes or growing "clothes" out of their bodies?
Kabria cares a lot more about growing her own clothes/armor and puts effort into doing it and tries her best! But she's not very good at it, which is frustrating because Labryn excels at it while not caring. They both wear more regular clothes than anything.

The dream about Colinâs wedding got me thinking about Ordon weddings in general so I made a comic about it. It was a fun idea and headcanon to play with.
Part 2
Transcript if you canât read my terrible handwriting:
Page 1:
Josh: say, I hate to ask this, but why do Ordon weddings last for three days?
Uli: I donât know, itâs just tradition.
Page 2:
Edmund: well, doesnât Ordon come from Labrynna?
Rusl: yeah.
Edmund: well then, I may have an answer for you.
Link: oh boy. Buckle up for some yapping kids.
Edmund: SHUT IT! In Labrynna, we have a legend of when our god, Labryn, found his true love. She was a simple mortal girl who was the daughter of a rich noble. And he fell in love with her
Page 3:
Edmund: disguised as a simple commoner, he went to the noble to ask for daughterâs hand in marriage. The nobleman was of course disgusted that a commoner asked to take his daughter away, so he decided to test him. Iâm the first day, he said:
Nobleman: go hunting and bring back the biggest boar you can find
Edmund; so Labryn went and found a boar as big as his house.
Page 4:
Link: you think that was Ganondorf?
Midna: PFFFF HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Ahaha! Sorry! That was good.
Edmund: ahem, anyways⌠he found a boar as big as his house, but the nobleman didnât want to admit defeat, so he told Labryn:
Page 5:
Nobleman: a boar is no use to you if you do not know how to make it into a meal!
Edmund: and so, the nobleman challenged Labryn to make an elaborate meal from the boar⌠and it took all of the first night and all of the second day. When he was finished, a feast was prepared, and it fed the entire village. But the nobleman was still unwilling to give up his daughter, so he told Labryn:
Nobleman: a husband is no use to his wife if he has no stamina. Dance for her.
Edmund: and so, Labryn danced for the entire second night.
Page 6:
Edmund: the nobleman, now furious and humiliated, asked Labryn to do one more thing:
Nobleman: gift my daughter the most beautiful treasure in all the land!
Edmund: it seemed like an impossible task due to his daughter having everything she could ever want⌠but it did not stop Labryn. He took his knife, grabbed a lot, and widdled it down to create a golden goat, one so beautiful, not even words could describe the beauty.
Page 7:
Edmund: the nobleman finally gave up, offering his daughter to Labryn⌠and this was when he revealed himself as the God of War. On his knees, he asked the simple, mortal woman to be his wife. Not as the commoner, but as himselfâŚ

Transcript:

Link: and then she said no, and he lived as a lonely god for the rest of his lifeâ
Edmund: NO! That did NOT happen! The noblemanâs daughter accepted his proposal! And they lived happily-ever-after and so on and so forth. The end.
Uli: great story-telling, your highness!
Illia: wow!
Rusl: did you know that we believe that the golden goat is our light spirit Ordona?
Edmund: I did not know that! How fascinating! Though it calls into question about the other light spirits.
Page 9:
Illia: how interesting! I didnât know that about our wedding an
Edmund: it is quite an interesting tale to hear! Labrynna weddings mirror the legend. One the first day, the husband goes hunting for boar and returns to prep it. The second day, the husband begins making a meal for his soon-to-be wife which is traditionally served during the feast. The second night is the elaborate party and feast where the husband dances for his wife. Then the third day, the husband gifts his bride a beautiful treasure and they get married at dusk.
Josh: so thatâs why our wedding was so long
Illia: oh, but it was fun!
Josh: easy for you to say! You didnât do much!
Illia: hey, I was fine with a Hylian wedding!
Page 10:
Link: thatâs cool! But Ordon weddings are just a tad different. For the meal, both the husband and wife make the meal, and it doesnât have to be boar. Then the two dance together, and the gift is just decorated goat horns, kind of like a Hylian wedding ring, but you donât wear it, obviously.
Edmund: oh, interesting! It does make things a bit more even, yeah?
Zelda: indeed. I, for one, did like being served, even if Edmundâs cooking was terrible.
Edmund: HEY! Iâm not a bad cook! I just⌠donât do it often!
Zelda: haha, well, Iâm honestly glad you didnât do the dancing bit. I wouldnât have been able to keep a straight face.
Edmund: Labryn, itâs so embarrassing! Why must that be apart of the wedding?
Page 11:
Uli: haha, well dancing alone is never fun! Though Iâm glad we donât do the meal but. I couldnât keep down Ruslâs food if I tried!
Midna: well Iâm lucky that my husband made the best food ever!
Link: yeah, and I had to keep you away from the kitchen lest you blow it up.

Chapter 7- The Meeting
The letter from Link has been haunting Zelda since sheâs read it. She had planned to meet with the resistance in two days, and even moved her schedule around for it, but Link was demanding to meet with them now. It seemed that they would be here tonight, but Zelda was struggling to make time to meet them.
During the many meetings, it was all she could think about. How she was going to get to Telmaâs bar, how she was going to disguise herself as Sheik, what she was going to say to Edmund and Amber. She was probably going to miss supper for this, but it was fine, this was more important than supper. She just wished that it hadnât happened so last minute.
Goddesses, why couldnât they wait two more days?
She didnât pay attention to any of the meetings, anxious to get them done and to leave to get to the next one. Sheâd nearly fallen asleep countless times, and Edmund would discreetly wake her back up so she wouldnât humiliate herselfâwhich she was grateful for. She really wasnât fit for any of this queen business at the moment, but there was so much to do, such little time.
As soon as the current meeting ended, Zelda found herself sitting in her chair, staring blankly at the wall instead of rushing to get to lunch. This was her only break, and she didnât have the energy to move. Edmund didnât move either, and he spoke to the nobles and representatives for Zelda as she stared. Soon the room was empty, and the two were left alone.
âZelda,â Edmund started softly.
âItâs fine, Edmund. I just need a moment.â
Edmund stared at her. âYou werenât at breakfast.â
âNo I was not.â
âYouâve missed breakfast these past few days.â
âI have.â
âAnd youâre about to miss lunch.â
âThatâs fine.â
âAnd you look like death.â
Zelda gave Edmund an annoyed look and he leaned forward. âZelda, youâre killing yourself. Why donât you tell me everything thatâs happening? Why donât you let me help?â
Zelda continued to stare silently, not in the mood to argue.
âLook, Iâm worried about you. I do⌠care about you. We were good friends as kids, and those memories I canât forget. I want you to be taken care of, is that so wrong?â
Zelda stayed silent.
âYouâre exhausted and youâre hungry,â Edmund continued when she said nothing, âI donât want to think about how dehydrated you are. Just, come to lunch, take a break, and take care of yourself.â
âI canât take a break whenever I want, I have too much to doââ
âOh my Labryn, Zelda, the nobles can wait! They can wait for you! You need to take care of yourself first!â
Zelda sighed and stood up. âIâm not in the mood for this right now, Edmund.â
âWhen will you be in the mood? When youâre on your deathbed? Iâm not wanting to wait until then!â
The queen didnât respond and went to walk away. It was childish to not say anything, but she was too tired to argue. Too tired to think of something to say. She was just⌠so tiredâŚ
She reached the door and leaned against the wall, holding her aching head. She suddenly felt lightheaded and sick to her stomach. She heard footsteps approach her from behind and she gave Edmund a glare.
âZelda?â
She huffed and reached for the door, but black dots appeared in her vision, and she felt herself begin to stagger.
âZelda!â
Her stomach did somersaults as she began to fall, and soon she was surrounded by darkness.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The sun was beginning to set as Rusl and Link arrived at castle town. They moved quickly through the field, and Link could tell Epona was enjoying the free movement. She had become just as stir-crazy as he did after his adventure, so when she had a chance to move around outside of Ordon, she clearly enjoyed herself. When they arrived, they quickly got off their horses and headed into the town, trying not to take up too much space with their large animals. Normally, Link would let Epona roam free in the field while he did his errands in town, but after what heâs found out, he decided against it. It took a while to get to the bar; surprisingly the town was busy despite the day coming to an end, and people were always blocking their way, causing the horses to grow upset with the small space. Rusl and Link finally were able to tie their horses to a post near Telmaâs bar where less people were at, and they hopped down the stairs and entered it. The bar was relatively empty, save for a few patrons who were quietly drinking by themselves. As usual, the place was dark and was only lit up by torches and candles scattered throughout. In the back, Telma and Auru were chatting at the table they all normally sat at, and Telmaâs face lit up when she saw the two men, quickly burying them both in a hug when they got close.
âLink! Rusl! Itâs so good to see you two!â She exclaimed, giving their shoulders a firm pat when she pulled away. Link smiled politely and let her lead the two men to the back table, where Auru was smiling.
âI figured youâd both be here tonight,â Auru said, ruffling Ruslâs hair as he sat down. âSo whatâs going on?â
âIâll explain everything after Ashei and Shad get here,â Rusl said simply, fixing his ruffled hair.
âHm, we sure theyâll be here tonight? This was pretty last minute.â Auru asked, leaning forward to look at both Rusl and Link.
âI know, I know itâs inconvenient but⌠itâs important,â Rusl frowned as Telma set down a mug of ginger ale in front of him, which he began to pick at mindlessly. âMe and Link found whatâs been causing these disappearances, thereâs no need to waste time anymore.â
Auru raised his eyebrows and he nodded knowingly. âWell then, that is quite important.â
Link nodded, staring at the milk in front of himâneither him nor his father bothered to drink anything. It was silent for a moment until Rusl awkwardly cleared his throat, catching Link and Auruâs attention.
âWell, weâre lucky youâre here, we wonât have to wait for you. Youâre a lot harder to get a hold of than the others,â Rusl stated with a smile, and Auru gave a hearty laugh.
âOh, my boy, I havenât left castle town in weeks.â
âDid Sheik send you a letter?â
âHe did. He told me to ask around castle town to gather information. Itâs the only thing Iâm capable of doing now,â Auru leaned back in his chair and stretched slowly, a pained expression on his face. âIâm getting too old for all this action.â
Rusl frowned and went back to staring at his drink. Link studied his fatherâs face, but it remained blank. When he really wanted to be, he was a master at hiding his emotions. There was a moment of silence again, being interrupted by Telma coming by to bring food for the two men, and Link couldnât help but cheer softly.
âOh goddesses, thank you Telma,â he said, already digging in, âIâm starvinâ.â
Telma laughed and patted his shoulder. âI figured youâd both be hungry from the journey!â
âAw, you didnât have to do that, Telma,â Rusl chuckled slightly, and Telma lightly punched his shoulder.
âOh, you hush, itâs the least I can do for my friends! Now eat up while we wait for the lovebirds to arrive!â
Link stared at Telma as she walked away, and he turned to look at Auru. âAre Ashei and Shadââ
âEngaged.â
Linkâs mouth dropped. âEngaged? When did this happen?â
âA couple of weeks ago.â
Rusl and Link both glanced at each other in shock. Link knew that there was something going on between them, but after ten years, he figured that it was nothing.
âHow did you know about this?â Link asked.
âThey announced it when they stopped by,â Auru explained, gesturing with his hands. âI hang around here most of the time so me and Telma got to hear about it.â
âItâs about time,â Rusl scoffed, a teasing smile on his lips. âThose two were drivinâ me crazy!â
âNo kidding! Itâs a little late though. I doubt Ashei would be able to have kids at her age.â
Ruslâs face scrunched up. âWhat are you talkinâ about? Sheâs barely thirty! And youâre a fool if you think that Ashei and Shad would even want kids.â
âOh come now, theyâre good with kids!â
Rusl gave Link a look and he snorted. They both knew that they were terrible with kids. They could keep them alive, but they couldnât keep them from crying. Auru rolled his eyes and waved his hand away.
âI just think itâs a waste to get married and then not have kids.â
âThatâs an old way of thinking, Auru,â Rusl said, finally taking a sip of his ginger ale. âSome people donât need to have kids. It ainât our business what they want to do anyways.â
Auru scoffed slightly, but he didnât continue. Link continued to eat in silence, not realizing how sloppy he was being. He was ravenous. He felt Auru watching him and he looked up.
âWhat?â
âYouâre eating like a growing teenage boy. When was the last time you ate?â Auru teased slightly, and Link scratched the back of his head.
âItâs⌠actually been less than two days,â he muttered, giving Rusl a look. Neither of them ate dinner before searching the woods. They spent the next day sleeping and then the whole day traveling. Auruâs eyes widened when Rusl and Link remained silent, both having guilty looks on their faces.
âNeither of you have eaten in two days?â He asked, shocked.
âMaybe a bit longer than thatââ Link muttered, and Rusl jabbed at him lightly.
âItâs fineââ Rusl quickly said, but Auru shook his head.
âEat that food Telma gave you, boy!â He commanded in a stern tone. Rusl quickly turned to the food and started eating it, looking like a guilty kid. Link snorted slightly and his pa glared him down. Auru patted his back with a satisfied look and leaned back.
âMustâve been a crazy few days. What did Sheik have you do?â
âHe wanted us to investigate a missing woman and Goron from Kakariko,â Link answered since Ruslâs mouth was full of bread.
âAh, so thatâs how you found it.â
Link glanced at Rusl who went back to staring blankly at the food. Auru picked up on the mood change and frowned.
âWhat is it?â
âWeâll explain when Shad and Ashei get here,â Rusl said quietly. Auru looked between the two and frowned.
âAlright,â he said, a worried look on his face as he stared at Rusl. It grew silent at the table again and the old man glanced up, his face lighting up. âSpeaking ofâŚâ
Link turned around and saw Ashei and Shad walking to the group. Ashei looked annoyed while Shad smiled at the group. Rusl turned as well and shot up from his seat, marching towards the two.
âHey! You two jerks!â He shouted, pulling them both into a hug. âYou canât just get engaged and not tell me!â
âWell next time, be here when we visit!â Shad teased, hugging him back. Ashei smiled slightly and gave Link a nod as he walked up to the two.
âWhenâs the wedding?â Rusl asked, his hands on the twoâs arms.
âDonât know yet, weâre just playing it by ear,â Shad answered, looking at Ashei who nodded.
âWeâre in no rush,â she added.
âWell, you better have me as your best man, alright?â Rusl said with a smirk.
âMy dear Rusl, I wouldnât have it any other way!â Shad laughed. He glanced at Link and walked towards him. âAnd how are you doing, old boy?â
Link chuckled and gave him a side hug. âIâm doinâ fine. Iâm happy for yâall!â
âOh thank you,â Shad glanced at Ashei who was chatting with Rusl, a happy expression on his face. âI wouldnât have imagined being with her, but here we are.â
âLove is a fickle thing, isnât it?â
âIndeed it is.â
Rusl and Ashei walked up to the two. âLetâs sit down and talk, yeah?â Ashei started, âI want to know why you both were so intent on meeting today.â
âWe canât, not without Sheik,â Rusl sighed, sitting down. âHeâs not here yet.â
âThis has been eating me up inside, and youâre saying I have to wait longer?â Shad said lightheartedly.
Ashei pulled Shad down in the seat next to hers and gave him a look. âSheik may be busy, this was pretty last minute, yeah?â
âSo Iâve been told,â Rusl grumbled. Auru patted him on the shoulder with a chuckle, and the group started to lightly poke fun at Rusl. Telma came by with food and drinks for the couple that arrived, and she closed the curtains to give them privacy.
âTell me when you start talking about what happened,â she said, âI still have work to do, but Iâll be sure to kick everyone out.â
âSure thing Telma,â Link said with a nod, and the curtains were fully closed, leaving the group isolated from the drunkards that came to the bar.
âSo⌠what did Sheik have you two do?â Link asked the couple, and they glanced at each other.
âSheik told us to help investigate the disappearances with a captain named Hoz,â Ashei answered. âWe really werenât finding anything of importance though.â
âAh, did you come here with him?â
âNo, he was quite intent on continuing the investigations,â Shad jumped in, pushing his glasses up his nose. âThat was the most focused soldier of Hyrule Iâve ever met.â
âItâs good, Hyrule needs more men like him,â Ashei said, staring at her drink.
âThough he was sort of a pain to work with,â Shad mumbled.
Ashei snorted. âHe was. Everything needed to go his way otherwise he would implode.â
â... Does Hyrule still need more men like him?â Auru asked cheekily, and Ashei glared at him.
âYes.â
Shad laughed slightly and sat up straight. âYes yes, he was still good to work with. Iâm glad that some soldiers are still trying to do their jobs.â
Ashei gave a knowing nod and took a sip of her drink as the others mumbled in agreement. The group started to chat about mundane things, how they were doing, how the families were doing, and what they had planned afterwards. Link was constantly looking over his shoulder, expecting Sheik to suddenly appear (which he did every time they met up), yet there was no sign of him. Rusl was getting more anxious as the evening went on, constantly fidgeting with his hands or pacing the small room, pretending to be observing the wall. Soon it became too lateâthe bar was fully empty as Telma closed it down and kicked out angry drunks, and the only area lit up was the back room where the resistance sat. Yet no sign of Sheik, and Auru finally let out a loud sigh.
âI donât think Sheik is coming.â
âWe just need to be patient,â Ashei said, âsheâs a busy person.â
Auru frowned. ââShe?â You think Sheikâs a woman?â
Asheiâs eyes widened for a moment, but she quickly recovered. âW-well, Sheik is just a mysterious person, thatâs all. I uh⌠say she could be a woman⌠or⌠something.â
The group stared at Ashei who stared hard at her drink.
âAnd what makes you think theyâre a woman?â Auru pressed, a teasing smile on his lips.
âWhat makes you think theyâre a man?â Ashei snapped back, getting angry. Auru raised his hands defensively.
âIâm just teasing you. You just never get flustered like that!â
Ashei glared at him and started cursing under her breath in frustration. Shad cleared his throat, wrapping an arm around her.
âWell, it doesnât matter if Sheik is a man or a woman, what matters is that theyâre not here right now.â He glanced up at Rusl who was still pacing back and forth near a corner. âWe should start without them.â
Ashei sighed and nodded, a defeated look on her face. Auru nodded as well and stood up to drag Rusl back to the table. Link stared worriedly at his pa as he sat down, his face drained of all blood as he stared blankly at the table.
âGoddesses, are you alright?â Shad asked, and Rusl waved his concern away.
ââM fine,â he mumbled. The group didnât seem convinced by that answer, but they didnât say anything else.
âWell, Link, Rusl,â Auru started, âtell us what happened. What is taking these missing people?â
Link glanced at Rusl who was still staring at the table, and he stood up, deciding to lead the conversation.
âDo you guys remember the shadow beasts?â
The group all froze, staring at Link with wide eyes.
âShadow beasts? You mean those horrible black creatures that plagued all of Hyrule during the Twilight invasion?â Shad asked, and Link nodded.
âYes, I⌠me and my pa found one in the woods⌠two nights ago,â Link frowned for a moment, that night feeling ages ago. He continued, âI think itâs a shadow beast thatâs gotten stronger for the past ten years. Itâs whatâs been taking these people.â
âOh⌠LabrynâŚâ Ashei muttered under her breath.
âHow do you know itâs the cause of all these disappearances?â Auru asked.
âWeâuhââ Link glanced at Rusl who was still unmoving. âWe sorta⌠found out the hard wayâŚâ
âOh no⌠did someoneâ?â Shad started, but Link quickly stopped him.
âNo, no itâs ok. I was able to stop the abduction but⌠I think itâs pretty obvious that this⌠mutated shadow beast is whatâs causing all the disappearances.â
âOk,â Ashei breathed out, âso itâs one of those shadow beasts, a little mutated, but we know what it is now. We should go out looking for it, yeah?â
Link pursed his lips. âYes, but⌠be warned. I fought so many of those things by myself back thenââ
âYes you did! You were marvelous with the way you slashed them with your sword!â Shad exclaimed, swinging his arm around as if he had a weapon. Link smiled but it quickly went away.
âYeah, well⌠I fought this one, and it didnât die no matter what I did, so⌠I think we should be careful. We canât underestimate this thing.â
The group nodded.
âAlright, well, thank you for telling us Link,â Auru said. âNo one in Castle Town described anything like that.â
âNo kidding,â Ashei replied and Link nodded glumly. This wouldnât have happened if he hadnât let such a thing live, he couldnât help but feel guilty over it.
âWell, itâs late, we can discuss plans tomorrow, but in the meantime, I think we should all get some rest,â Auru stared sternly at Rusl and Link, âyou two especially. I can tell you need it.â
Link smiled slightly and Rusl got up quietly, leaving the room in an instant. The group stared in shock as he disappeared behind the curtain. Auru looked at Link and pointed at where Rusl left.
âIs he alright?â
âI⌠I donât knowâŚâ Link looked down, debating on whether he should tell them the details of what happened, but he really didnât want to, and he didnât know if Rusl would want him to. âHeâs probably just tired⌠the uh⌠the shadow beast was⌠aggressive to say the least. Iâm gonna go talk to him real quick.â
He felt everyoneâs eyes on him as he left, and he glanced at Telma who looked worried, but she forced a smile when she saw Link.
âDid you all start the conversation without me?â
âOhâ goddesses Telma Iâm so sorryââ
Telma waved his apology away. âIâll make the others tell me. Rusl went upstairs, sweet pea.â
Link nodded and slowly walked up the stairs, his entire body suddenly feeling heavy. He glanced around at the secret upstairs inn, trying to remember which one was normally reserved for him and Rusl. He poked his head in the first room, finding Rusl laying on one of the beds, his hands resting on his face. Rusl flinched when he sensed another person near him, but he quickly relaxed when it was Link.
âSpirits, Link,â he chuckled, lying back down. Link smiled and sat down on the other bed across from him.
âPa⌠are youâŚ?â He started, but he stopped when Rusl glanced at him. Ruslâs face didnât hold any annoyance, but instead guilt. He sat up and sighed.
âIâm ok, Link. Iâm⌠sorry for how I was acting down there⌠I justâŚâ Rusl paused for a moment before sighing again, resting against the wall. Link tilted his head
âWhat?â
âOh⌠itâs not your burden to bear.â
âWell⌠I kinda already know why youâre upset so⌠hiding it from me is a fruitless effort.â
Rusl grinned slightly. âI suppose so⌠I justâŚ. Ever since that night Iâve been feeling so⌠terrified every waking momentânoâeven when Iâm trying to sleep Iâm terrified, I justââ he stopped himself and rubbed his face. âI donât know.â
Link frowned. âI know the shadow beasts would turn people into other shadow beasts, maybe youâre still feeling the effects from that?â
Rusl shrugged, a disturbed look on his face.
âYou⌠also were almost eaten,â Link chuckled darkly, âthat would traumatize anyone.â
Rusl smirked slightly, but it quickly went away, so Link continued.
âI mean⌠I know Iâve nearly been eaten myself. So many times. By giant plants, and a giant eel, and wolfos trying to tear me to pieces, and spiders, and I guess smaller plants too, plus another giant spider, and possibly a lot of other things andââ
Ruslâs face had grown more concerned the longer Link rambled, and he quickly tried to recover.
âI-I mean, I turned out fine! Maybe? I mean maybe I havenât turned out fine butâbut itâs fine! Iâve kinda gotten used to it, everything trying to eat me. Heh, it makes me wonder if I taste good. I mean Midna will definitely say that I taste good but, you knowââ
âLink, I donât need to know this,â Rusl interrupted him, though he almost seemed amused. Link blushed slightly and scratched the back of his head.
âS-sorry, that kinda came out.â
Rusl chuckled slightly, which made Link feel a little better. He observed his fatherâs tired face and frowned.
âPa⌠you should get some rest.â
Rusl raised an eyebrow. âDoting and worrying is supposed to be my job Link, not yours.â
âWell, who did I get it from?â Link rebutted, and Rusl laughed.
âCorrection then: doting is a parentâs job.â
âBut I am a parent.â
âNot my parent!â
Link snorted and Rusl joined him in his laughter. It felt good to laugh after these past few days. Link sniffed and sighed, staring at Ruslâs bed.
âYou should get some rest though, Pa.â
âYou should get some rest too, Link.â
Link pursed his lips and looked down, shifting uncomfortably.
âNot as much as you.â
Rusl raised an eyebrow. âHow much sleep have you gotten in the past forty-eight hours?â
Link clamped his mouth shut. âI⌠um⌠like⌠fourâŚ. hoursâŚ?â
Rusl smirked and gestured for him to come over. Link sighed and trudged over to him, the lack of sleep catching up to him. He rested against Ruslâs side while he wrapped his arm around him, and Link finally relaxed. It always felt good to be held by one of his parents. Being an adult, it didnât happen as often compared to when he was a kid. Rusl started playing with the tip of his ear and he lightly kissed his forehead.
âIâm proud of you, Link,â he said softly.
âFor what?â
âFor becoming the man you are today. Youâre a good person, determined, and kind. And Iâm proud of you for it.â
Link smiled slightly. âBut you and ma raised me to be that way.â
âOh, we were only trying to nudge you kids in the right direction. Ultimately, it was you who chose to become a good person. Give yourself more credit.â
Link sighed and drowsiness began to get the better of him.
âThanks. I love you pa.â
Sleep began to take over him as he heard his pa say one last thing.
âI love you too, my son.â
Zelda awoke with a jolt. She was in her bed, her heavy dress was replaced with a lighter one, and her daughter was reading a book by her side. She rubbed her eyes and sat up, startling Amber.
âMother! Youâre awake!â She exclaimed, closing her book. âWe were so worried!â
Zelda looked around the room, confused. How long has she been out?
âFather came to me and asked me to stay by your side! I hadnât left once!â Amber continued. âIâve just been reading this book about birds, Iâm hoping to find one to match the birds Hylians used to ride, but so far none of them have been big enoughâŚâ
âAmber,â Zelda rubbed her eyes, still feeling exhausted. âWhereâs your father?â
âHeâs in meetings right now, he said heâll come by to see if youâre awake!â
Zelda groaned and rubbed her face. What had been happening while she was out? She hated not being in control of everything.
âI hope youâre alright,â Amber added quietly, and Zelda glanced over at her. She had a worried look on her face, and she couldnât help but smile.
âIâm fine, thank you for watching over me,â Zelda said with a smile, and Amber beamed at the praise.
âIâm so glad mother! Do you want me to fetch you some supper? Itâs a little late butââ
âWait, how long have I been asleep?â
âOh! Um⌠a few hours.â
Zelda tried to hide her frustration, and she turned away as she groaned. She didnât have time for this. She still needed to meet with the resistance! If she didnât leave nowâŚ
Amber gasped as Zelda started to get out of bed, ignoring the vertigo that assaulted her.
âUm⌠mother? Father told me to make sure you stayed in bed a-andââ
âIâll be fine, Amber,â Zelda grumbled, but she knew she wouldnât be. It didnât matter though, she needed to be somewhere.
âBut⌠father saidâŚâ Amberâs voice trailed off, and Zelda heard another person enter the room.
âZelda,â Edmundâs voice called out, and she sighed. Great.
âFather!â Amber hopped up and ran to him. âMotherâs awake! Do you want me to get a meal for her?â
âNo, I already sent a maid to do that, my dear. You go get yourself to bed.â
Amber nodded and looked back at Zelda. âGoodnight mother.â
Zelda smiled slightly. âGoodnight Amber.â
She lingered for a moment, her mouth agape, but she finally turned away and left the room. Edmund and Zelda remained silent, both staring intensely at each other. Finally, Edmund let out a huff and started to walk forward.
âIâm glad youâre awake,â he said, âI brought you something.â
Zelda frowned. âWhat is it?â
Edmund sat down on the bed with her and handed her a little box. She carefully opened it to reveal a chocolate orange. She blinked several times, wondering if the lack of sleep had finally caught up to her and that she was hallucinating it. But the smell hit her nostrils, and she lightly traced the chocolatey edges.
âI remember you loved these things as a kid,â Edmund muttered, a nostalgic smile on his face. âI always hated them, but I did enjoy eating one slice with you whenever you had them.â
Zelda couldnât help but smile as she grabbed a slice of the chocolate. She glanced at Edmund and her smile dropped slightly.
âHow do you know I still love these?â She asked, and Edmund took in a quiet, deep breath.
âDo you?â
Zelda looked down and put one in her mouth. The chocolate instantly melted as it hit her tongue, the sweet flavor mixing with the tanginess of the orange rewarding her taste buds, and she couldnât help but close her eyes in satisfaction. She hasnât had one of these in years.
âIt seems you still like it,â Edmund chuckled. Zelda opened her eyes and turned away, embarrassed.
âYes,â she mumbled. Edmund hummed and leaned back, resting on his hands.
âIâm glad.â
Zelda turned to look at him, his mustache lifted up with his smile. âWhyâd you bring this to me?â She asked.
âOh, I figured youâd need an energy boost. Chocolate does wonders for that,â Edmund reached for a slice. âMay I?â
Zelda nodded and offered one to him. He took a slice and bit into half of it. His face scrunched up in disgust and he covered his mouth. âEugh, I still donât like it.â
Zelda smiled and almost let out a giggle. âThatâs quite a shame, theyâre so delightful.â
Edmund grinned and stared at the uneaten slice. âI probably shouldâve put the full thing in my mouth, now what will I do with this?â
Zelda stared at it for a moment, and before she could even think, she plucked it out of his hand.
âCanât let it go to waste,â she said before putting the rest of the slice in her mouth. Edmund looked surprised but his expression softened into a pleasant smile. Zelda looked away, her face flushing slightly, and she picked at the remaining chocolates. âThank you for this Edmund, that was very thoughtful of you.â
Edmund nodded. âOf course. I⌠I just want to help out.â
It grew silent between the twoâany feeling of contentment was gone in an instant. Edmund picked up on Zeldaâs discomfort and he let out a sigh.
âWhy wonât you accept my help?â
Zelda glanced up at him. Where an accusatory and bitter tone normally was, this time, there was just curiosity. He was trying, it was only fair that Zelda tried as well.
But could she trust him?
It was kind of him to try to help her, but was he trying to manipulate her into trusting him? She remembered her father always showering her mother with gifts whenever he did something to upset her. It was always a way to regain her trust. Was Edmund trying to do the same?
âListen, becoming the king of Hyrule hasnât been an easy transition for me,â Edmund started, his back turned to Zelda, âLabrynna gives its power to the king, but here in Hyrule, all of the power goes to the queen.â He let out a breath while Zelda remained silent. Heâs never told her this before. âI admit Iâve feltâŚ. Emasculated as a result, and Iâve been acting childish because of it. For that I am sorry.â He glanced back at Zelda, an almost worried expression on his face, but Zelda stayed quiet. âBut, I feel useless. I feel like Iâm being used for my connection to my family, and that Iâm nothing more than an object to your people and⌠I suppose thatâs why Iâve been⌠frustrated about you keeping things to yourself. But⌠looking at you now, Iâve grown more worried than upset. Youâve overworked yourself so much to the point that you collapsed. Thatâs not a good thing. I suppose I⌠I just want to know why youâre so intent on doing everything yourself, when Iâm here to⌠help you.â
Zelda stared at him for a moment, his emerald green eyes never leaving hers. For once, Zelda couldnât find her words. She knew she should try to communicate with himâhe was being so open with her, but why? Was he trying to worm his way into her life? Or was he being genuine? Heâs never taken the time to sit down and talk to her about things, but then again, Zelda never gave him the chance. Did he deserve her to try to be open as well? She turned away, emotions running rampant. She couldnât cry, it wasnât queenly to do so, but she was so tired. She took a deep breath to control herself.
âI⌠I donât know if I can trust you,â she finally said softly. She felt Edmund shift beside her.
âWhy?â
âIâIâve watched my father strip my mother of all her power. He took everything away from her, ruled Hyrule as a tyrant, and took control of every aspect of my life. It doesnât matter if Hyrule gives the power to the queen, the king can take over and I canât let that happen again. Itâs happened to me twice now and⌠I just⌠Iââ She hiccuped slightly and she rubbed her exhausted eyes. It was quiet as she once again tried to take control of her emotions, and she glanced up at Edmund, who looked horrified.
âI had no idea,â he finally said. âI alwaysâ I know we didnât see each other a lot but⌠I didnât knowâŚâ
Zelda sniffed and sat up straight. âMy father did a good job at hiding it. And he made sure I hid it as well.â
Edmund gave her a sad look. âIâm so sorry. IâŚâ He grew silent for a moment. â... thank you for telling me. Iâll leave you be. A maid should come by with food for you.â
âI-I canât stay I need toââ
âZelda.â Edmund gave her a firm look. âIâŚI ask that you give yourself rest and proper nourishment, please.â
Zelda stared for a moment, remembering the resistance. âI canât. I still need to meet up withââ she stopped herself and Edmund raised an eyebrow.
âWith⌠your friends that are taking care of the disappearances?â
Zelda pursed her lips. âYes.â
âPerhaps I can meet with them in your stead.â
She shook her head quickly. âNo Iââ they didnât know that she was the queen; if Edmund came instead, they would figure it out, even if one already knew about it. And she certainly couldnât tell Edmund about Sheik. Frustration was apparent on Edmundâs face, and he sucked in a sharp breath and stood up.
âSo are you just going to keep pushing yourself until you die? Sure, you may not trust me, I understand that. But you have representatives, diplomats, nobles, even guards that could go in your stead! Why canât you utilize them?â
âEdmund. I. Canât. A-at leastâŚâ Zelda looked down, her eyes going back and forth between the chocolate orange, the bed, and Edmund. He did have a point; she couldnât keep going on like this. She really could end up dying from her neglect, which would be an awful thing for Amber and for the resistance. But she knew no one could help the resistance with the disappearances. She had to take care of that herself. But⌠perhaps with everything elseâŚ. Goddesses, she hoped she wasnât making a mistake. âCould you⌠just take care of the meetings tomorrow? I must deal with these disappearances on my own.â
Edmundâs expression softened and he nodded. âIâll take care of them.â
Zelda smiled. âThank you.â
âWill you⌠visit Amber before you leave anywhere?â
Her lips parted and she nodded. Edmund nodded back, and for the first time in years, there was a mutual understanding between them. Edmund hesitated for a moment before finally turning to leave. Zelda was left alone, and she contemplated everything that had just happened.
She collapsed after a meeting and slept through the entire day. Her daughter stayed by her side while Edmund took care of the rest of the day. He brought her chocolates and they had a conversation that didnât result in them fighting. They opened up to each other⌠and nowâŚ
She sighed. She needed to meet with the resistance, that was her first priority. Hopefully it wasnât too late.
She wasted no time to get into her disguise, despite her exhausted body and rumbling stomach. Just as she was about to sneak out, she remembered what Edmund asked of her.
âWill you⌠visit Amber before you leave anywhere?â
She sighed. Sheâs been a terrible mother to her own daughter, not spending any time with her despite Amber desperately wanting to. If the resistance needing to meet up tonight hadnât been about the missing people, she probably would have been tempted to stay. Maybe spend time with her family, her daughter, and try to be the mother Amber deserved. But she knew this was important; it had better be important. She needed to take care of this, and she needed to find the missing people so that Hyrule would be safe for Amber. If the resistance found out important information about the disappearancesâlike where the missing people wereâshe would personally go to rescue them herself and eradicate any threat that came in her way. This threat would come to an end, Zelda would make sure of it.
But it meant she would be gone for a while. So she didnât know when she would see Amber again.
Zelda quietly snuck into Amberâs room, her daughter curled up in her bed, clutching a bird stuffed animal to her chest. She brought her mask down and walked up to her daughter, emotions going through her once again. Her sweet little Amber, growing up before her very eyes, and she was missing all of it.
Her hand brushed against Amberâs temple and she began to stir. She looked up at her mother and furrowed her brow.
âMother?â
Zeldaâs breath hitched and she helped Amber sit up.
âAmber,â she started, âI know⌠I know I havenât been the best mother, but I want you to know that I love you with every fiber of my being.â Zelda pulled Amber close and hugged her. âI love you so much.â
She rocked her back and forth, Amber clinging to her tightly. Despite her dry eyes, Zelda found tears forming, and she had to choke back a sob. Amber however wasnât hiding her crying, and she felt her tears soaking into her clothes. She finally pulled back, wiping away a tear on Amberâs cheek and rested her forehead against hers.
âI promise Iâll try to be better,â Zelda whispered, pecking her on the forehead, and she stood up, walking towards the door.
âM-mother?â Amber called out.
âIâll be back,â Zelda promised. âJust stay here with your father and focus on your studies. I⌠I love you.â
âI love you tooâŚâ
Zeldaâs heart hurt more than her aching body as she turned away. How many times has she turned her own daughter away? How many times has she brushed her off when Amber reached out? She ran out, her frustrations over herself giving her the energy she needed to escape the castle. How will Amber view her when she grew older? Would she resent her the same way Zelda resented her father? Would she feel unloved by her own mother? She stopped as she reached the entrance to the courtyard, looking back at the castle. She was panting heavily, sad and angry tears finally pouring down her face.
It didnât matter what her father tried to do to her, Zelda never felt worthy of being queen. She didnât feel worthy of anything in her life. Especially her own daughter.
Amber deserved a better mother.
For a moment as she stared at her castle, she thought she saw Edmund watching her, but his supposed silhouette went away in an instant. She turned away, her head hanging, and finally marched to Telmaâs bar.
It was late, she didnât know how late it was, but it was late enough for no one to be out in the streets save for a few guards. Sheikâs stomach was cramping terribly, and her throat and tongue felt like sandpaper. She almost wished she stayed behind to eat the food Edmund got for her, but she knew she couldnât let the resistance down. She leaned against a wall catching her breath, her hand rubbing against a box in her pouch. She didnât know why she grabbed the chocolate orange Edmund gave her; she supposed she couldnât leave it behind. She continued onward to Telmaâs bar, feeling that it was a much longer walk than what she remembered. She normally went through the dungeons to reach Telmaâs bar, but from how she was feeling, she didnât have the strength to go that way. As if to prove her right, her knees nearly buckled as she went down the stairs, causing her to stumble into the door. She pulled back and blinked harshly trying to clear her head. She took a deep breath to calm herself and she went inside. The bell rang loudly through the empty bar, announcing her presence.
âSorry, weâre closed right now,â she heard Telma call out from the back. The barmaid poked her head from the curtains and her face lit up. âSheik! Well, itâs about time you got here, honey!â
Sheik awkwardly shuffled forward, allowing herself to be hugged by Telma.
âS-sorry Iâm late,â she mumbled, not caring if Telma heard her or not.
âOh⌠itâs not me you should apologize to. The others have already gone to bed, save for Ashei and Shadâ well⌠actually itâs just Ashei,â Telma laughed slightly. Sheik was disappointed that the others had already gone to sleep, it was much later than what she hoped for, but she was slightly relieved that Ashei was the only one awake save for Telma. Though Sheik had tried to keep her Royal identity a secret, Ashei had found out about it. She had to admit, it was nice not having to hide everything from one person. She could at least confide in her with everything that has been happening.
âMy, you look terrible,â Telma continued, eyeing Sheik worriedly. âHere, let me whip you up something real quickââ
âOh, no you donât have to do thatââ a loud grumble from her stomach interrupted her and Telma raised an eyebrow. Sheik looked down, embarrassed. âApologies.â
âYouâre alright sweetheart, just head to the back and Iâll get you some soup.â
Sheik nodded and walked to the back where she saw Ashei and Shad sitting next to each other. Shad was asleep, his head against Asheiâs shoulder, while Ashei had her arm wrapped around him. She had a pleasant smile on her lips as she watched him, until she looked up, spotting Sheik.
âAre you going to sit down, or are you going to keep watching us like a creep?â She asked, and Sheik straightened.
âA-apologies⌠I didnât mean to stare.â
âDonât worry about it, yeah?â Ashei glanced at Shad, then back at her. âI wanted to stay up to wait for you. I knew youâd get here eventually. He was intent on staying up with me, but I guess he couldnât do it.â
Sheik smiled despite Ashei not being able to see it. âIâm sorry I came so late.â
âYouâre fine, but what happened? Why did it take so long for you to get here?â
âIâŚâ Sheik didnât want to talk about her fainting today, nor about her lack of sleep, food, and water. âIâve just been very busy.â
Ashei studied her for a moment. âAre you alright?â
Sheik looked up at her, and simply shook her head. âIâve been very busy,â she repeated.
âLabryn⌠ZelâSheik, you can leave this to the rest of us. You donât have to help us every second, yeah?â
âI know, but Iâm tired of sitting here not knowing whatâs going on. Not actively trying to better my kingdom.â
Ashei shook her head. âYou canât do everything by yourself. Thatâs why the resistance is here, to help Hyrule.â
âI know⌠I know⌠I justâŚâ Sheik sighed. Goddesses she was exhausted. The two grew silent until Telma came in with a bowl.
âI could only make some broth, I hope thatâs ok, sweet pea.â
Sheik felt herself beginning to drool and she gratefully took the bowl. âThis is wonderful, thank you, Telma,â she said. Telma gave her a soft smile.
âOf course honey! Thatâs why Iâm here, to take care of my friends.â
The word âfriendsâ stuck with Sheik, and she looked down at the bowl, her emotions running rampant once again, though her eyes were finally too dry to cry again.
âNow, if you two will excuse me, Iâm going to head to bed myself.â Telma turned to Ashei with a teasing smile. âUnless you need me to carry him to bed of course.â
Ashei gave her an annoyed smirk. âI can do that myself. Thank you though.â
The barmaid gave a hearty laugh. âAlright, good night you too. And Sheik? I have some water on the table for you. Take care.â
Sheik glanced at the cup on the table, her thirst becoming unbearable.
âThank you,â she said again, and Telma turned away, leaving the two women alone. Sheik glanced around, eyeing Shad cautiously, and Ashei caught on.
âDonât worry, heâs out like a light.â
âBut what if he wakes up and sees me without my mask?â
âThen Iâll knock him back out, yeah?â
Sheik chuckled softly and pulled her mask down. Though it wasnât filling, the broth was amazing, and the water made her feel much better than before. She sighed as she drank the broth, feeling relief run through her body as she finally got nutrients in her body. She glanced at Ashei who watched her worriedly, and she looked down.
âHow was Hoz?â Sheik asked.
âOh, he was fine. Quite determined to find the missing people. Heâs a good man.â
Sheik smiled slightly. âIndeed, he is. What did Link and Rusl need?â
Asheiâs breath hitched. âThey found whatâs been causing these disappearances.â
Sheik gasped and nearly dropped her bowl. Though it was exactly what she had hoped for, she was still surprised that it actually happened. âWhat is it? Whatâs causing it?â
âLink thinks itâs a shadow beast.â
Dread instantly filled Sheikâs body. Memories of the beasts breaking through her castle and slaughtering the guards came in at once, and she clenched her fists. HowâŚ?
âWe hope to make a plan to hunt and kill it, but according to Link, itâs gotten powerful over the past ten years, and it wonât die so easily.â
Sheik swallowed hard and nodded. âI see⌠any⌠any news on the people?â
Ashei shook her head sadly. âNo, they only mentioned the beast Iâm afraid.â
Sheik slumped slightly. If it was a shadow beast taking these people then⌠they probably werenât alive anymore. She remembered watching Zant turn her guards into shadow beasts before her eyes, even those who werenât personally cursed turned when beside them. Even her own parents turned into creatures of darknessâŚ
Were the people dead? Or had they turned into shadow beasts, doomed to be mindless monsters until theyâre put out of their misery? Sheik didnât know. But if that were the case, wouldnât they have known about the resurgence of shadow beasts? Either way, Sheik was having a hard time being hopeful about the fate of the missing people.
âWeâre going to be doing a lot of planning tomorrow,â Ashei continued, âI donât know when weâll head out, but if youâre wanting to come with us, I suggest you get some rest, yeah?â
Sheik looked up at Ashei who had a firm expression on her face. Sheik had grown tired of everyone telling her to rest, but with the food and water in her system, she couldnât fight back the sleepiness.
âAlright,â she mumbled before standing up, staring at her empty bowl confused.
âI can take care of that,â Ashei said, and Sheik set it down awkwardly. âWe can talk more tomorrow, yeah?â
Sheik nodded and dragged herself up the stairs where several rooms were hidden. Her eyes were barely open as she tried to find a room to go in. She typically took the first room, so she opened the door and threw her head cover and mask off, closing the door behind her which left the room in total darkness. She stumbled over to the bed closest to her and fell asleep before her head could even hit the pillow.
feel free to ignore this ask if you're trying to free yourself from the sequel idea curse, but: OOT Sequel, you say? What happens in it -- does it pick up from the adult continuity or from Link being sent back in time?
Hhfbbddjdbdkebjs ok so itâs a tad different from my other sequel ideas cuz those all mostly center around Link and some other characters, but this one is more focused on the fierce deity.
(Eow spoilers)
So you see the deities Iâve been making? I wanted to do something with them and so I was like âwhat if Null was trying to destroy everything?â And then I had to think that FD would be there since he is a deity too and then I was thinking that itâd have to take place after oot cuz FD will be there on the ranch chillin with the fam and Lon Lon Ranch gets destroyed before tp so it wouldnât make sense for it to happen if FD was there to protect it soâŚ. Sequel au story for oot????
Null is still there in the other timelines (itâd be pretty cool if the only way to defeat them was to kill them throughout all the timelines. Theyâre gone in the downfall but not fully gone in the other timelines), so the gods of the world are tasked in destroying them. They all receive a vision from the goddesses that the world is being swallowed up in the void, and so they strike, except FD is confused. Heâs never had a vision before, and from all he knows, there was no reason for him to turn into a deity. He just is. And turns out, Link also had the vision, meaning that the hero was called into action again.
However, at this time, Linkâs son, Dallon, was killed by monsters, so everyone is pretty upset and Link does NOT want to leave, but Labryn shows up and tells Link that he needs to go and save the world, while being confused why FD is there. And yeah, itâll have a more tragic ending compared to my other story ideas cuz⌠the heroâs shade has to come from somewhere. I realize Zelda should probably be apart of it too, so maybe Link can finally talk to her after years of being terrified to. But yeah! Thatâs the story I have so far XD aaahh
#leave to smiles to overdo it on the worldbuilding and story telling#asks#I wish it was this easy with my original stories
