Hi there! Id like to ask a question.
I like your idea that the kingdoms Legend went off to adventure to (Holodrum, Labrynna, Hytopia and Lorule) are all in the same place or era rather haha, like they all coexist. Its rather genius!
But that makes me curious, do you have an idea where the kingdoms are located? I know Lorule is a whole other place entirely, but what about the others? Which kingdom is from the north? South? Etc. I'm just curious how far or near each kingdom is, and where Hyrule is between all of them. (Also am I missing other kingdoms?)
Thank you!!!
Yep— the five kingdoms currently entering an alliance in Legend and Fable’s era are Hyrule, Labrynna, Holodrum, Lorule, and Hytopia.
Technically, Legend (and sometimes Fable) have seen even more: Subrosia is a separate kingdom beneath Holodrum, past Labrynnans can visit the present with the Harp of Ages and have canonically traveled to other countries, and Koholint… was as real as a dream can be 🥲. And that’s not counting independently governed countries that are part of the larger conglomerates, like Hyrule’s river Zoras ruled by Queen Oren, or the Tokay island beside Labrynna.
So, background— as you may know, there are four types of non-Hyrule worlds in the Zelda franchise.
Independent government, but owes allegiance to Hyrule (Ex: Every Zora’s Domain and Gerudo Town in the series)
Actual, independent other country (Ex: Spirit!New Hyrule, Hyrule!Calatia (Calatia is not canon to the games, but is a popular fan-canon based on Link’s homeland in the Valiant Comics adaptation))
Parallel world (Ex: Time!Termina)
Dream world (Ex: Wind!Ocean King’s Realm)
The question is: which of these are each of the kingdoms Legend has visited, and if they’re physical, where are they located with relation to Hyrule?
Koholint is a dream world, and is therefore not in this alliance. However, I love Link’s Awakening too much to ignore it entirely in the Wisdomverse. What happened to Koholint will be addressed in The Secrets We Keep :).
As you said, Lorule’s different. No need to place it geographically; it’s a parallel world to Hyrule.
Hytopia seems to be confirmed North of Hyrule according to the (admittedly non-canon) Hyrule Encyclopedia. Apparently it’s also confirmed in ALBW? I don’t remember that, but it’s been a while since I’ve played ALBW so I believe it. According to the Encyclopedia, the Hytopians wear frilly clothing to brave the cold northern climates. That’s hilarious and I love it. I’m going with north for this one.
Hyrule is where Hyrule is :)
Finally, Holodrum and Labrynna are claimed by the Encyclopedia to be parallel worlds, but I disagree with this. The Encyclopedia is non-canon, and iirc also says Termina stopped existing after Time left, which I refuse to believe as well. Sure, it looks like Legend gets teleported to Holodrum/Labrynna by the Triforce in the beginning, but later, Impa, Fable, and a bunch of Hylian knights make it over there just fine and I doubt they did so using anything other than normal physical means. In the Hyrule Historia timeline (which I pretty much mostly follow), the Oracle games happen before Link’s Awakening, which means Legend sails home from Holodrum/Labrynna. But Legend is also pictured riding somewhere on a horse at the beginning. Therefore, we can deduce that perhaps one of the two countries borders Hyrule on land, and the other is a separate continent— or both are connected by land, but you could take a boat back to Hyrule if you wanted. My money’s on Labrynna being off to the West so far— the eastern Labrynnan forest border connects to Hyrule’s woods, and this leaves the southeast ocean of Labrynna open for Legend to sail back to Hyrule to, through the Sea of Storms where the storm at the beginning of Link’s Awakening seems like it could work (Legend has already shipwrecked there once before, but he’s totally the kind of guy to want to brave those waters again either as a test of strength, challenge, or punishment.) Jury’s still out on Holodrum!
I’m actually playing Oracle of Seasons for the first time right now (on Wednesdays and Fridays! 😇) and just finished Oracle of Ages last week— so I may update my views on Holodrum as I unlock more of the game’s map!
Tl;dr: Fable’s got a whole intricate mess of a chronospatial geopolitical situation to deal with here. Mad respect to our diplomat Zelda <3

Oh, thank you for this. Now my brain is absolutely working!
I think it's be interesting if Drumm was in charge of Summer & Autumn while Holor was in charge of Spring & Winter. I could also see them being very sun & moon or yin & yang coded. Meaning to opposite sides of the same whole.
Maybe they often finish each other's sentences? Maybe they sometimes speak in unison? Maybe they represent equal opposites?
I'm also getting the vice that Labryn might have a lot of pride issues.
I've been thinking that Lorule's Triforce could represent similar virtues, but in a different way. Like, maybe Daring &... 2 other things. Not quite sure yet.
But my thoughts are that Ravio is Daring, in that he's still very brave, but he's more so in a passive, enterprising, almost puppet master sort of way. Very cunning. In this way, he could be considered Courage, but played from a more Wisdom-based perspective. But this would make Hilda Wisdom played from a Power-based perspective, so more of a general & battle strategist. Meanwhile, this would suggest that Ganondorf's counterpart would be Power from a Courage-based perspective, which would be interesting to think about.
So, my thoughts are that maybe Loria could be an example of the opposite of what Hylia was, but not necessarily in a bad way.
Sorry, when I see good ideas, my brain gets moving. Often leaving me behind in the process. 😅
I’ve been thinking about the big deities of Hyrule and decided to make designs for different deity designs.
Hylia is the Goddess of Heroes, ordered by the golden three to watch over the Triforce when they left. She is the goddess of Hyrule, though it existed when she no longer existed because she gave up her immortality to defeat Demise. So really, no goddess protects the Triforce, and instead it scattered after ocarina of time when Ganondorf tried to grab it. But yeah Hyrule is kind of a mess with no Goddess to protect it. I lvoe big bird woman but honestly, I wanted her to look like Hylians so she’s a regular Hylian with some godly designs added. Yayy.
Then there’s Labryn, the war god of Labrynna. He’s focused on war and strategy and so he has the owl insignia to kind of represent Nayru’s wisdom. He’s kind of meant to be a mixture of Ares and Athena. He’s fun! Very rageful and has no respect for Hylia or her heroes. Hope he doesn’t create a labyrinth to test a hero 😳 that’d be crazy tho
Then we got Hollow and Drumm, the dancing gods of Holodrum. I want that kingdom to be focused on entertainment so I gave them the comedy and tragedy masks which is fun. Their designs are loosely based after the oracle Din too and yeaaaah. Idk what they do but they just kinda vibe and do their own thing.
Then there’s Oshus, king of the oceans. I feel like the ocean is its own domain, it’s own kingdom. I mean in our world, the ocean is its own world, so it makes sense for the ocean here to be separate from the kingdoms on land. So Oshus is doing his own thing and watching over the world of the ocean. And I also just love him. Def adding a ton of power to him, putting him on the same level as Hylia but idc it’s what he deserves. Now, if he was so powerful, why couldn’t he defeat Bellum? Well… Hylia had Demise so…. And she didn’t survive that battle sooooo…. Tho he’s not involved with Hyrule, Oshus has a lot more respect for Hyrule and its hero after phantom hourglass :3c
And idk, I wanted to draw Loria. Idk how her world exists she’s just kinda there vibin.

If you wanna write Zelda - particularly Linked Universe or other Links Meet AUs - please read about what happened in those other games rather than picking up context clues from other fics. There's a difference between creative license and just being wrong.
This happens especially with pre-oot and handheld games and honestly its not even big stuff but details. Like the thing about Link's Blood in Adventure of Link isn't a curse persay, Ganon's ashes are just magic.
#like the continents in the oracle series are not termina and ordon they have their own names Labrynna in ages and Holodrum in seasons#legend's master sword was in the Lost Woods. there was no deku tree#ezlo was a sage as in General Wise Man not like a sage in the Zelda sense.#linked universe#links meet au#zelda

Tears of the Kingdom would've been an infinitely cooler game if Yona and her attendants had been the monster/river Zora instead
#i know historically they're enemies but King Zora and Queen Oren have both been peaceful#it's been a long time maybe the river zora have chilled out now#as far as I'm concerned they're from the Labrynna domain in the Oracle games#but seeing the monster Zora in the BotW/TotK style would be v cool imo#tears of the kingdom#loz totk#clyde rambles#yona totk

characterizing karloff as as a himbo is baffling to me… that man has a masters in engineering minimum he’s the most technically skilled person here and we love him for it
#genuinely one of the best characters to me he’s great. ninjago should have introduced more random characters as visiting from other#countries that get NO explanation and don’t exist on the existing map. it’s hilarious#<- has not watched DR and doesn’t care <- also though holodrum and labrynna in the oracle games and tmc#just EXISTING out of nowhere is very funny#stop creating places in a vaccuum i love varied cultural landscapes :D

You know shit went poorly on echo's era when the aftermath of the crisis caused by the Wizard reduced hyrule from the place Full of life we see in EOW/CoH to the wasteland only inhabited by Monsters with the ocasional old Man/woman we see in Zelda 1 with species like the gorons and deku Scrubs Just gone
Can you tell us what happened to Silent or is that a spoiler? Because I really want to know!
‘Tis a spoiler :).
Echo can guess that Silent— and maybe even Echo’s brother— are probably doing everything in their power to wake her up. But since she didn’t wake, she assumes whatever they tried must not have worked. Echo doesn’t know any more than that.
Unfortunately, what few historical references are left in Dawn’s era don’t happen to mention that time period at all.
Masterpost
#not to mention whatever happened to the kingdoms legend visited given how AoL full on shows that the great decline didnt affect just hyrule#like since hytopia is to the north of hyrule its completely possible that aurora was moved to hytopia palace due to the crisis#and also holodrum and labrynna are just gone too#this is some bronze age collapse level shit#wielders of wisdom#adventure of link#echoes of wisdom#wisdomverse#wis echo#wis silent#wis aurora#legend of zelda

Linked Universe, The Hero of Legend
My headcanons/aus

Art by Atro
Colored version.
Long talk/Ideas under the cut, warning for slightly dark topics. (Note: I may add stuff over time, but nothing will be deleted from the list)
Twilight. Wind. Time. Hyrule. Four. Sky. War. Wild.
Legend (A link to the past, Link’s awakening, oracle ages & seasons, A link between worlds). Other nicknames: The veteran, grumpy pants, Mr. Hero, Hylia’s bastard, Zelda’s Twin.
Hero’s title: Hero of the past, Hero of Koholint, Hero of the Oracles, Hero of Holodrum, Hero of Labrynna, Hero of Lorule.
God that has claim over his soul: Hylia
Part of First’s soul: Caution
History:
The first adventure was a Link to the past, after defeating Ganon it was revealed to Link that he was not only Zelda’s twin but the biological child of Hylia, the golden goddess. Link didn’t want to believe it so he hopped on a ship and left, leading him to koholint. The wind fish picked Legend for his divine blood to help wake him.
Both saving the orcales came from Link not wanting to be home, however after the second one he was convinced bad stuff would happen where he went so he opted to go home and retire.
Later, hyrule was attacked leaving Link alone to rescue it. He also meets a mysterious merchant called Ravio who basically becomes his roommate. It’s revealed Ravio and his sister, Hilda are Link and Zelda counterparts with their mother being a goddess, the Lorule version of Hylia. The humans of that world wanted to get rid of their triforce, basically destroying and corrupting the gods that once protected them.
Link uses the triforce and wishes for their triforce back, saving Lorule. Originally they destroyed their ability to travel between worlds. However, both Link and Ravio wishing for the other plus their demigod blood allows Ravio to travel back to Hyrule. Link tried to avoid doing another big adventure after that, just helping people like you should before he ripped away to LU.
Death: Legend lives a longer life then most heroes because of his demigod nature, he’s able to see Fable’s granddaughter start to grow up. However his grandniece was curse and the palace taken over by a prince, hell bent on power. Legend at 70 years old ends up running away from Hyrule, taking many magical items with him. Eventually his age catches up with him and lays in a cave, where he passes. He stays as a spirit to give Hyrule his sword to help him survive.
Interest stuff/Headcanons:
Being a demigod is stained on Legend’s body, mostly by his hair which will flow like water when magic is used or high emotions, or faint tattoos that cover his face and body.
All gods have those tattoos when posing as humans, hence why their children have them. However, most are so faint, only about a shade lighter than their skin tone that they are unnoticeable unless in the right light. But they glow when their natural magic is used.
Because of this, Legend refuses to use any of his natural magic, often relying on magical items and jewelry, playing himself off as a lucky adventurer.
He loves jewelry also because of how shiny it is.
The mermaid tail he can get was because of his mother, as one of her domains is water.
Because of the Mermaid tail thing, he can’t really wear pants sense there's a risk of them being destroyed if he hits water.
Legend despises being Hylia’s son and technically a prince, especially since most see male children of the royal family as a curse waiting to happen.
Legend really loved Koholint, he wasn’t a demigod, he didn’t have any weird powers or random quest. It was so bad that if it wasn’t for his mother’s blessing he likely would have drowned.
The only reason Legend woke the Windfish and broke the pocket realm that he came to love was because of Marin.
Koholint was a pocket realm, populated by people that was close enough to the Windfish resting place. Legend doesn’t know this and spent his next couple of adventures looking for Marin, as he physically had some items given to him by her.
Because of Marin he actually uses what little magic leaks out around him and grows the flowers she kept in her hair, always keeping one on him.
You can follow Legend’s path with ease as the flowers mark where he has rested.
He can play any instrument you hand him.
Legend form in dark areas, a pink rabbit, because rabbits are one his mother animals. He despises this of course.
Legend normally is very untrusting after his first two adventures, however something about Ravio made the hero trust him.
Ravio looks exactly like him, same weird faint markings, same face, same body. It’s just the colors that are wrong.
Legend keeps everything from his adventures with the mentality of ‘I rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.’
Because of his mother, Legend picks up on languages and puzzles very easily. It only takes him about a week in a new area before he can speak and read it.
Despite having the Triforce of Courage, Legend’s counterpart Ravio, actually has the Lorule Triforce of Wisdom.
All his adventures have him plagued by nightmares; Legend has to use a bit of magic to get a restful sleep.
He’s good at finding maps and keys, as well as places to eat.
While it’s really hard to poison him, he can still taste the food. So could he eat rotten food, yes, will he? no.
Legend has joint pain, mainly from refusing to use his magic to heal wounds and waiting until he had potion or fairies, the time left its mark.
He has a soft spot for rabbits and seagulls.
Legend is the one who gave Hyrule his first sword. After his death is spirit remained trying to save Hyrule, and ending up looking after the hero as a merchant.
---
Legend is done, let me know you thoughts.

I’ve been thinking about the deities I created for the Zelda universe a little too much and now I’m…. In too deep
So first of all, Labrynna and Holodrum seems to house the oracles Nayru and Din, so I called them the lands of Wisdom and Power respectfully. The golden goddesses are the highest of goddesses since they created the world, and so the oracles travel the lands, with the deities watching over.
Ok so buckle up cuz I’m gonna super ramble here
Nayru, Din, and Farore both created the world, and left behind the Triforce. They are extremely powerful, but a mysterious force that devoured everything, Null began to cause issues for them. Needing to protect the Triforce which could protect or destroy the world they created, they asked their youngest sister Hylia to protect it, which is why the Triforce and the hero is housed in the land of Hyrule (Hylia summoned a hero to help protect the land from danger). Hylians are the most like the goddesses and long ears and blonde hair are considered highly attractive
Anyways, while Hylia was tasked in protecting the Triforce, the other younger sister, Loria, was tasked in containing Null, since Lorule sorta reminds me of the rifts in eow (tho I should really play ALBW. The vibes are there tho).
Loria ended up losing her life and used the rest of her power to create the little tris to seal the rifts, and this is because of Demise, a demon that appeared and desired the power of the Triforce. Where he came from is unknown, but he entered the land of the Triforce to steal it, and the war happened and Hylia gave up her mortality to stop Demise and protect the triforce. Rip the queens.
Then the rest of the gods appeared, who were not related to the golden three and used to be mortal.
Labryn was a human who saw his family fall apart after one of his brothers killed the other (kind of like Cain and Abel). He is the war god, but he actually hates war and does not want anyone to raise their weapons against their own with no justification, since he saw what it can do. He’s more like Athena than anything, not so much Ares. During the early years of Hyrule, the interloper war began, and the Triforce was once again threatened. With the main protector gone, the goddesses asked Labryn to create light spirits to banish the interlopers, whom he carved out of wood, thus creating the light spirits of Hyrule. They live in the land of Hyrule since that’s where the Triforce is housed. Afterwards, Labryn meets and falls madly in love with a simple noble woman, a mortal, and he gets married to her and they have children. These children are eventually crowned as rulers of Labrynna. Eventually, a war takes place and many innocent leaves to new land south of Hyrule and create Ordon, whom Labryn sends the last light spirit he created, Ordona, to watch over. Ordona is like his pet and he adores her. Ordona protected Ordon so well that Hyrule didn’t even know about their new neighbors until after the execution of Ganondorf. Now Labryn spends his time alone since his wife was a simple mortal and unfortunately passed, and he tries to make sure his descendants rule righteously, tho interacting with the mortals is heavily advised against, so there’s only so much he can do.
Hollow and Drum used to be Gerudo sisters who believe in entertainment and fun. There’s only so much you can do without allowing yourself some pleasantries. I wish I could say I have more on them but I do not :( but that’s some important info! They don’t speak, but they communicate through their dancing. Their vibes is kinda like Yaelokre if y’all know that, idk why. Just masked, childlike beings that sing and dance (tho they don’t actually sing lol)
Then Ram. There is no canon land of courage, and I don’t think Hyrule is that land because of the balance of the three Triforce pieces, so I went ahead and created a new land myself. Totally original and not from any game lol. Ram is the god of agriculture and honestly anything like that. He definitely intermingles with the people of his land and has had several children with several women. The people there look like Hylians but are not, with more long and roundish ears compared to the delicate, pointy ears of Hylians. They also can live for a very long time, unless they leave the presence of Ram. They live completely separate from others and do their own thing, living off the land and sticking close to Ram. Ram was originally a Zonai, and everyone in his land knows him personally. They’re extremely strict and overly zealous, and do not like outsiders
Then Oshus, who was originally a leviathan. I love him sm, and he protects the entirety of the ocean, which has its own issues like with Bellum and stuff. I’m just gonna say that Bellum took his wings hence why he has none. Not much to say, just think of phantom hourglass.
Now, it’s important to note that these deities became deities around the time Hylia fought Demise, but there was one that suddenly vanished. One that resembles the goddesses with his longer ears, Link, who was turned into the Fierce Deity. Except he didn’t join his fellow deities after they reached godhood, instead he was sent to the mysterious and abandoned world of Termina. Since he returned to Hyrule, the deities have grown uncomfortable with his sudden presence.
Some stuff: Hyrule has the hero and priestess, Labrynna has the oracle Nayru, Holodrum has the oracle Din, Ramenia has the oracle Farore, and the ocean has the three fairy spirits Ciela, Neri, and Leaf!
And yeah! Hytopia worships Hylia, they’re just kinda there tho vibin. Yeah too much worldbuilding but… I love that about Zelda. I can just take the patterns of the lore and do my own thing with them. Hope you guys like the lore :))) and I hope it makes sense! If you have any questions, let me know! I’m also bending canon just a smidge here but it’s still fun! I try to be somewhat accurate to the important stuff!

Legend’s real fiancé/fiancée
this is probably my dumbest one yet
The chain has picked up on Legend occasionally mentioning a fiancé. He gets flustered every time. It’s one of the only real ways to catch him off guard. Since it’s a Link trait to be nosey, everyone is WAY up in Legend’s business. Each time they mention it though, Legend just blushes and waves them off.
The chain meets Fable at some point and she’s cunning, sarcastic, and funny. She seems like a very good match for Legend and… She goes doe eyed around him. She can’t take her eyes off him and she seems to hold onto his every word. Sky can recognize her affection for her hero from a mile away. He’s so happy to see that he’s not the only one in love with a Zelda. Twilight hangs over his shoulder, also understanding the love between a princess and her hero. So they slide up to her and asks if she and Legend are engaged. Her reaction is a little shocking. Her eyes go dark, her posture rigged. Her good mood is ruined. No. She’s not his fiancée but she wanted to be and tried. There’s so much she could offer him. They could be so happy. But no. To both men’s horror she has angry tears in her eyes. “I hate his stupid partner. It’s just.. AUGH.” She stomps away to sulk.
When the chain meets Ravio it all clicks. The man practically hangs off of Legend, linking their arms, hip bumping him as he passes. For Hylia’s sake they’re ROOMMATES. Time and Wars share a knowing look. During the war Ravio was always mentioning a special someone after all. So Time and Wars slide up to Ravio, teasing grins and all. They ask him if Legend was his bunny. They ask if the two are engaged. Ravio gets a wistful look on his face. It’s a bit sad and a little confused. Ravio tells them all about how he had asked Legend if he wanted to be more than roommates, not necessarily engaged, but partners. Legend apparently turned him down with lots of grace explaining he was already taken. Ravio had thought that maybe Legend was put off by them being mirror counterparts of each other, that could get pretty weird to be honest… but… it couldn’t be more weird than what Legend had!! Who he was engaged to! Ravio goes to the cellar to find the hard cider they make TOGETHER from their apples from the orchard.
Wind and Four are hanging out an a beach when a seagull joins them. Between Wind’s affinity for ghosts and Four’s Minish magic, they can understand her squawking. She asks about Legend, she’s very worried about his wellbeing. She relieved when they tell her he’s doing well. They piece together that this is the lovely Marin Legend has spoken of on more melancholic nights. She must be… ah it all makes sense. Fable’s frustration, Ravio’s hurt. Legend must’ve been engaged to his dream girl. The girl who he had to leave behind. The girl that still keeps vigil over him even when he doesn’t know she’s there. He must be unable to let go… So they ask her if she’s Legend’s betrothed. Somehow, for a bird, she puts on a stank face. Her feathers ruffle, she smooths them down with her beak. Ahem… no she’s not. She looks annoyed for a bird. Even while Legend was sleeping and she was there as his literal dream girl, Legend didn’t even go so far to kiss her. He just had such a strong feeling that somebody else was waiting for him… When she started a new life, that of the sky and sea, flying as a bird, she went to see who this person who was so special to him was and… she huffs and flies off, leaving a plume of feathers behind.
The chain ends up in Labrynna and there they meet Ralph who is ecstatic to see Legend. He also wears just as many if not more rings than Legend himself does. Wild and Hyrule exchange a look. Could it be possible that one of those rings might be a wedding ring? So Hyrule and Wild ask, probably too directly but Ralph… He sighs, shakes his head. When Legend came this way it seemed everyone had wanted chance to go on a date with the hero. Ralph wasn’t excluded from that group… but by the time he asked Legend to do something sometime, maybe something a little romantic, Legend kindly shot him down and told him of his engagement. Ralph was like ??? we are 15. (At the time of oracle of ages) Ralph gets a strange look on his face. He tells the chain that Legend’s betrothed is HERE. In Labrynna.
so of course they beg to meet this person. Everyone has so many questions. Legend has so many people that want him, who are so into him. How does this person surpass all of them? Legend, blushing like a maiden, agrees to introduce them. He leads them through the forest.
and this is her.

when he introduces the chain to a tree they think he’s lying. Not just a normal tree, but a talking one. A talking tree that’s annoying. She’s so offended when they don’t believe Legend. She demands her fiancé, omg is this real??, make them apologize. The chain doesn’t know what to do. Legend hugs her bark and she giggles. Hyrule breaks away from the chain. He looks concerned. “Legend. You were 15 when she proposed. How old was she?”
pandemonium breaks out when he mentions she must have been somewhere over 400 years old. He tries to claim that she’s like their age in tree years but it doesn’t really work.
idk if they stay together after this but I couldn’t get this stupid idea out of my head 😭 I hope somebody enjoys this!

I have a question about your LoZ AU.
LoZ as a series has a bit of a weird depiction of humans. Hylians are almost always portrayed with pointed ears, although humans with rounded ears do show up sometimes (notable example is Wind Waker, where it's an actual plot point). I know this is a weird question, but would Ingo's, and by extension Ansy's, round ears be a point of interest to the inhabitants of Hyrule? I don't remember if BotW or Totk ever mentioned any area outside of Hyrule, and since everyone there have pointed ears, no one would have any idea as to where those humans came from.
Also, if I remember correctly, I think that pointed ears are a sign of a connection to the goddess Hylia. And given the generally polytheistic society in (most) Zelda games, then that could be another odd thing about Ingo and Ansy.
At the very least, their round ears would be a very clear indicator that both of them are not from Hyrule.
I know this is a weird question, but for some reason this topic has always been an interesting one for me. Especially since I remember my first reaction to Totk Ganondorf being that he's the only character in Totk and Botw with round ears. (Me : yeah sure his character design looks cool and he looks swoll, but LOOK AT HIS EARS-)
Pardon me, a flood of Zelda lore just rushed into my head lol - I’ve been a Zelda fan EVEN LONGER than I’ve been a Pokémon fan.
Okay, so round ears, our isekai-ed friends in Hero of Bombs, & Ganondorf! (Lore dump ahead!)
It’s as you said - round ears have been a minor topic of interest in Hylian history, regardless of the timeline. I remember reading the booklet that came with A Link to the Past when I was little, about the creation of Hyrule & the Triforce. In there, they talked about how Hylians heard messages from the gods with their elven ears. One of the townsfolk in Ocarina of Time says the same thing.
Meanwhile, the earliest instance of round ears I can remember appearing is Ocarina of Time: ALL of the Gerudo (including OoT Ganondorf) had round ears - more on that in a bit. Another example came a little later in the Oracle games with the inhabitants of the other countries Oracle of Seasons / Ages Link visited (Holodrum & Labrynna), then again in Twilight Princess with the residents of Ordon Village (technically just outside Hyrule’s border).

(OoT Nabooru to the left, OoA Bippin & Blossom in the middle, & TP Colin to the right)
“Oh, okay. Gerudo & these folks from neighboring countries / villages just have round ears - easy!…Right?”
Until Breath of the Wild happened, reintroducing the Gerudo people after all these years with pointed ears like Hylians (not to mention different skin tones).
The Gerudo being an all female race (except for a male born every 100 years, often some incarnation of Ganondorf), they reproduce via men from other races (Hylian, Sheikah, etc). Stands to reason they would get traits from their fathers. Why, then, didn’t they have pointed ears back in OoT? Maybe round ears & darker skin used to be a stronger gene? I couldn’t tell you.
Why TotK Ganondorf has round ears might be an example of that gene coming back in the rarely born male, though honestly I just feel like they were just making a design choice to refer back to OoT Ganondorf, the very first depiction of him we saw in the games (though he was mentioned by name in A Link To the Past) as a love letter to us older fans.

(OoT Ganondorf to the left, TotK Ganondorf to the right)
I don’t think Nintendo wanted us to think too hard on it, or why some versions of Ganondorf actually does have pointed ears, even when it was the same Ganondorf (eg. OoT Ganondorf > WW Ganondorf / TP Ganondorf). All I know is that when ToTK Ganondorf stepped into the frame, my inner 10yo saw the villain from her nightmares (in the very best sense! 878)
As for Ingo & isekai-ed me (lol), the Hylians would probably just think of us as foreign visitors, maybe from Labyrnna / Holodrum. Link & probably some other key characters would know the truth, either by being told straight out, or intuition.
Side note: as Ingo muddles with his memories & ends up spending time with isekai-ed me, he wonders if we come from the same country / world (not quite, Ingo!)
—
(Editing to add maybe it was also a symbolic thing - pointed ears symbolizing communication with the divine, maybe it’s to say “he refuses to listen to heaven”? Who knows.)
#ask#hero of bombs#tears of the kingdom#zelda au#submas au#ingo#self insert#ganondorf#lore#I actually did have at least one nightmare with OoT Ganondorf in it as a little girl lol - dude had an imposing presence!#I think the fact that we first meet him when OoT Link & Zelda are also children deepened that impression#Like I’m a little girl watching little Link & Zelda square themselves up against this big evil king

Do you have some hcs for Legend? I'd love to hear your thoughts on him :)
So, so many of them!
he's far-sighted! Due to a lot of adventuring and focusing on the far away stuff, he's actually trained his eyes to always be focused on far away things, and so now he struggles to see things clearly close up. he has specticals for it (Impa took him to get some when they were in Labrynna together) but he rarely remembers to wear them, and doesn't like to out on the road to begin with, as he's worried they'll break. he tends to forget he's wearing them when at his house though, so Ravio's really the only one who sees him wear them more than he sees him without them.
he's totally a bit of a history nerd, because I said so. It was more just stories when he was little, but between frequently interacting with ancient artifacts and architecture, as well as time traveling himself, Legend's become somewhat fascinated with history. he likes having all the answers (as most Links do) but for him, that includes knowing where things came from, why they were made, and so on
he's also a horse girl, much like Twilight and Warriors, but doesn't travel with a mount because it's less convenient. While having a mount in a Zelda game DOES make avoiding foes much easier, it also gets frustrating when you have to go find them again after doing however many things (point in case, my BotW horses are scattered to the four winds All The Time). Legend, who frequently is getting up and dropped in random places, doesn't like that this would leave any of his mounts alone in the middle of nowhere and thus doesn't take his own horse many places as a result. Said horse is Puini (OoA manga) and is currently housed either at the castle or with his grandparents (OoS manga). He dotes on her exceedingly, and being around Epona now reminds him of her a lot. Being as she's a literal war horse though (trained for battle with a knight) he has an inkling she would't quite like the mares of the rest of his brothers and leaves her out of the conversation when they bring up mounts
he's the OPPOSITE of someone with claustephobia! I have this fic I'm writing in my head right now where the boys finish their adventure just to get collectively dropped at Lon Lon with no way home, and have to adapt to "normal" life. A chapter of said fic (if I write it) would likely focus on the fact that Legend literally grew up in dungeons, like, his games have the most dungeons of all the Zelda games, as well as some of the biggest focus on dungeons, and as a result, they likely feel more familiar to him than the open world (and oddly safer, since they're predictable and follow Rules that the outside world doesn't have). I like to think that small, narrow, dark places would actually be soothing for him, to the point that, in the theoretical fic, it freaks the rest out when they find out he keeps purposefully climbing into dried up wells for some space when he's homesick. Maybe it's the inner bunny instincts, maybe it's a pre-existing trait that influenced the magic that made him a bunny to begin with, but Legend tends to burrow, and feels safest when he's in smaller, darker places.
He loves puzzles. I think it was Squido who said that we should let the boys enjoy their adventures, no? Let them look back fondly and smile at some things? For Legend, I think the thing he loved most about adventures with the problem solving, and puzzles are the best sorts of problems because you're guaranteed that there IS an answer. So, for someone who grew up doing puzzles most of his life (dungeons), they're a familiar thing for him and a challenge for him to face without actually endangering himself. he likes mind puzzles and logic puzzles mainly, but picture puzzles are fun too for him
Apple snob. He knows all the apple types, probably bred two of his own apple breeds somewhere in his life, and he has opinions on all of them
Nature boy. Not like Wild and Hyrule who like to get lost in it, no, Legend just likes existing in nature. He grew up on Orchard Hill, so gardening and husbandry are something he was raised to before the hero shtick, and he finds a certain sort of peace in gardening/plants. Also, he travels a lot, so he spends a lot of time by himself out of doors. Granted, that's also where a lot of the bad stuff happens to him, but the good outweighs the bad and I think he genuinely would love to go hiking or do nature walk sorts of things if adventure didn't scoop him up every time he left the house
Really big dancer. Mostly because of Din, partially because of Marin, and Cadence definitely had an influence too. Unfortunately, his mental metronome is set to the music pulse of Octavio's magic so he sort of just...can't keep a beat well without a lot of time to adjust. Once he's got it though he's killer
He can play a lot of instruments, but I really like the idea that the violin is his favorite. yes, he's got that precious ocarina from the dream world, and he learned to play one of those first, but like the idea that Uncle Aflon or maybe one of his friends was a violinist, and Legend just got dead set as a kid on that particular instrument. It's also a very diverse and emotional instrument, which grants him a lot of freedom of expression he'd usually not allow himself
He didn't speak his first word until he was four. Uncle Aflon kind of accepted early on that he might be mute, but as it happened, he just didn't feel the need to use words to communicate, since what he wanted was either always evident or could be figured out without him having to speak much. I think he was likely either mostly silent as a child, using mainly sign or other nonverbal communications, but if you want to make it angsty, I also like to say that it could be because his throat got messed up by an illness he had when he was very small so talking was painful for him. I HC that that changed after he traveled to Labrynna, because the memaid's curse didn't just give him a tail, but also effected/altered his voice, making speech easier for him but also making it to where he can actually cham people with his voice if he's not careful (which perhaps contributed to him becoming a harsher spoken person because then the charm is less likely to slip through on accident if he's being a jerk)
Continuing the speech HCs, I think Legend's tendency towards speech is impacted heavily by wo he's around. if it's anyone he met prior to Labrynna, or in Labrynna, he defaults to mostly sign, whereas if he met them after, he tends to usually use spoken words
Legend' far more expressive and open with sign language, as tone is very important and easier to navigate for him. In essence, it is his first language and the one he's most comfortable with
That said, with people he's truly comfortable with, legend's just straight up non-verbal. he doesn't feel the need to speak and usually just uses facial expressions and exaggerated motions to express himself. Being able to shut down the speech center of his brain for a bit is a huge relief and since those he knows well know how to read him just fine like that, it doesn't make much of a difference either way
As y'all know, I champion the Fable and Legend are siblings HC, though I know it's neither cannon, nor likely to be cannon in LU (pretty sure JoJo confirmed it's not true). Still, I really really like the twins thing!
On the note of being twins! You know how sometimes, with twins, one comes out stronger than the other? Yeah, that was Fable. Legend's actually the smaller/weaker twin, though not by much. he was a very sickly baby though. Oddly enough though, despite being physically weaker than his sister, he actually got the stronger of the magic between the two of them! It might even be possible that the strength of his magic might have been the reason his body is weaker; because housing that much power can put a significant strain on a body. Either way, Fable and he joke about it frequently, saying that as he's got stronger Holy magic, he should have been the princess, and since she's physically stronger, she should be the one with the sword. He doesn't mean it though, and is only playing along. Fable kinda sorta really does mean it though)
It's less focused on by the fandom as a whole, but in case you didn't know: Legend is more than just a polyglot! In his games alone, we see that he can hear and understand not only most trees (not just guardian trees like the Deku and Maku trees, but the normal ones around Kakariko too), but also animals, spirits, and literally forces of nature! Heck, the literal SEASONS coo about how adorable he is when you meet them in OoS! That said, I think he learned pretty early on that this isn't normal. Uncle started getting really worried when he saw and heard Legend speaking to what seemed to be thin air on multiple occasions, so he learned to just not answer unless there aren't other humans/hylians around
Continuing the previous one, this does mean that Legend has to frequently resist asking for directions from various passing by birds and animals, and instead just bites his tongue and lets Twilight go off scouting because explaining that he can hear voices no one else can hear is just....ot the best of ideas
Despite the rest of the heroes' being under the impression that Legend was an only child, he actually has Middle Child energy. this is because he grew up with Fable, Ralph, the Oracles, and Ghanti bossing him around/messing with him, but he also helps look after his neighbor Gully, who I fully believe he loves the same way that Wind loves Aryll.
While I have Gully on the mind, I think Smith and his wife have mentally adopted Legend and all but see him as their eldest, since Bertha (Smith's wife), also had a hand in helping Aflon, newly appointed caretaker to an infant he knows nothing about minding, with learning about babies. Legend however, dense as he is, still fully believes they just put up with him for their actual son's sake, since Gully clearly adores him so much
This shows up a lot in my fics, but I like the idea that Legend loves the stars. Like, tehy're the same, always there, no matter where you go. he's traveled a lot and been tossed into random locations where everything is different, yet whenever he looks up, there the stars are, the same as always, just from a different angle. I think Uncle Aflon taught him the various constellations when he was small, and maybe when Legend was lonely in his adventures he started talking to them like they could hear them (and heck, if the seasons can hold a conversation, then why couldn't the stars?). Also, you know the thing about how if you're deep enough underground and you look up through a hole you can see the sky? Yeah, he's more used to night skies and stars than sunlight
Despite being a traveler, he's actually got a palish complexion for his skin tone, since he spends most of his time underground. He's also a bit sensitive to sunlight all around and gets a headache fairly quickly when he's out in it. He hates noon time and would rather be sleeping than awake when the suns at its zenith
I've seen this one around a bit, but I really love the idea that legend enjoys wearing his uncle's old clothes around the house when he's between adventures. he probably keeps Uncle's pipe tobacco and other things stored with the clothes so they still smell like him even after all these years
He's entirely unaware of the fact that being on regular speaking terms with the Golden Goddesses, the Fates, the Seasons, the freaking Triforce, and most royalty is uncommon for a hero. He's aware most people don't do it, but it's sort of jarring for him when he realizes that the other heroes' dealings are limited to mostly mortals, and lowly ones at that, and that when they do speak of the goddesses, it's usually with some sort of reverence. Meanwhile Legend will and has insulted Din to her face for picking on him about his height, gossips with Farore whenever they run into each other, and the only one he kinda treats with reservation/respect is Nayru because they sort of faught each other that one time and while it wasn't her faught, it still makes things a bit awkward at times
He tends to chew on things when he's restless/agitated. He's not even aware he's doing it half the time, and has chewed his sleeves, hair, and various tools at different times. The Chain have designated bowls (Sky got bored) and his has very clear signs of gnawing around the edges. Same with any wooden spoons he's given (although, being as Uncle raised him with manners, Legend does carry his own silverware at all times, and thus rarely needs to borrow from others (it's a medieval manners thing))
Unlike the stereotype of men when they're sick, Legend actually gets really quiet when he's sick. Hyrule's the same way and it's mostly to draw the least attention to themselves when they're not in fighting condition. Usually though, he tends to take the 'sleep through it' approach, which is really a very poor choice, but as far as he's concerned, it's worked until now so he's not changing it
I think Legend's a very physical person, someone who likes to be able to touch and feel various things, and generally enjoys the idea of physical affection, but in reality balks at it because it usually catches him off guard. That said, he do be touching all the stuff and animals.
Gets weird about dodongos. he knows that the majority of them are threats, but there's always a part of him that wonders if some of them are like Dimitri, and it can be tricky for him to fight them at times
The early Zelda games are sort of wack honestly, but the fact that he's technically a telepath gets brushed aside way too much, y'know? Like, Legend regularly has conversations with Zelda and Sahasralah from miles away, IN HIS HEAD, and only uses certain stones to strengthen that connection, not forge it to begin with! Now, he might just be receptive to telepathy, maybe it's a twin thing (I have a WIP about that) but I think it'd be really funny if he's just sitting on that little skill and never brings it up because linking up (lol) thoughts with someone can be very overwhelming when your brain is already moving a thousand miles a minute, and trying to process thoughts and feelings that aren't his own gives him a migraine. So he just.... doesn't. Unless Zelda reaches out first or he needs to tell her something important.
He's terrible about self care and remembering his own needs, but will, can, and does scold others for doing the same. He doesn't even care that he's a huge hypocrite, not much anyway
Magpie. Boy loves his shiny things. Like, he doesn't technically need everything he has, and he knows most of it will never be used, but if it's pretty he keeps it anyway
I feel like Legend'a also got a bit of food insecurity. When he was a kid, freshly thrust into his first adventure and with the kingdom turned against him, he didn't actually know how to find his own food and ended up going hungry a LOT during that first adventure (which might have stunted his growth a bit). Since then, he's made a point to not only educate himself on what's safe to eat and what's not, but he also taught himself how to preserve and prepare long lasting foods, which he keeps a huge stockpile of. He also doesn't trust any food he hasn't watched be prepared unless it's made by someone he trusts, and even then sometimes his anxiety/paranoia gets the better of him. There were a few neighbors who tried slipping something in the meals they gave him under the pretense of taking pity, when in reality they planned to turn him over to the knights, so he's always cautious now
He's actually less wary and guarded outside of Hyrule than he is inside of it. Lorule is an exception because it's a version of Hyrule, but any other country is used to a very different version of him because Legend isn't always suspecting foul play in other kingdoms who have nothing to gain from his death.
He cannot handle blood well. Yeah, he's a hero, yeah, he fights a lot, and yes, he's frequently injured in battle or dungeons, but watching his Uncle bleed to death left him with a kind of hemophobia and he tends to have mini panic attacks/breakdowns when exposed to large amounts of blood. He hates it, but can't control it, and hasn't found a way to overcome it at all
After spending a long time at sea after Koholint, trying to find his way home, Legend actually really dislikes the taste of fish. He had to rely on his mer form a lot getting home, and fish has been ruined forever because it was his only choice for food, and eating it raw (mer) did make him sick a few times (he's still hylian at his core) so now he tends to get queasy when eating fish, just on reflex
He's a dead ringer for his late mother, to the point where people who knew her sometimes double take
I know Warriors is supposed to be the pretty one, but considering Legend's canonically had forces of nature comment on how pretty he is (I think it was Summer specifically, but it could have been one of the other Seasons), I think he's got a type of beauty that, at the least, appeals to the supernatural/magical beings. He's unaware of this though, although he'll always say Fable is one of the most beautiful people in the world, all while unawares of the fact that they're nearly identical looks-ways
He likes to doodle. Drawing more so, but e enjoys both depending on what mood he's in
Logically and artistically minded. Numbers bother him though (something Ravio, who is the reverse, definitely abuses)
He's one of those people who genuinely will be happy if you get him a candle. He's got everything anyone could need, but something that smells nice, offers minimal light, and he;s always running out of? Oh he loves them. He's very picky about what scents he'll accent though because his nose is very sensitive
He cracks his knuckles and rolls his shoulders a lot when he's bored/tense/stressed- basically all the time LOL
he uses sewing/stitchwork as a way to try and relax himself after a long day. it works half the time. the other half his thread gets tangled and he gets very worked up LOL
Secretly admired Sky's skills in embroidery, but doesn't have the patience to practice anything complicated
he loves to teach people things, but constantly assumes people won't listen, so he tends to break things down to bare basics rather than going into the nitty gritty like he enjoys.
Such a big sweet tooth
Genuinely hates the feeling of fur. Twilight's pelt bothers him, not just because the guy who turns into a wolf is literally wearing a wolf's skin, but also because the feeling of fur, treated or no, displeases him most of the time. He only likes fur when it's on something alive and moving, and even then, he's picky about it
Has a extreme fear of dogs. It's both from being chased by the soldiers' dogs, but also various dog-like things in the Dark World. Wolfie used to make him very uncomfortable before he realized it was Twilight
Fall boy. The other seasons would be offended if they knew he had a favorite, but I think his little apple farming, leaf crunching, bright color enjoying self would just adore the fall.
he LOVES the rain. His arthritis acts up something awful when it rains, but when it's not too bad he enjoys being out in the rain. That said, he HATES thunderstorms, less because of being struck by lightning (LA) and more because of the storm the night that his Uncle died
He's actually not fond of heights. He doesn't panic, but he's used to being very low, or even below the ground, so being very high above it unsettles him.
He tends to sleep curled up, he's not sure why, he just does
He's got VERY sensitive ears, both to touch and sound
Buck teeth <3
Also, freckles. He doesn't spend much time in the sun, but he does tend to freckle when he has. It also brings out some natural highlights in his hair, but he's not aware of that because it's not happened since he was small
Tends to sound like he's talking down to everyone, but in reality he's just never sure what all most people know about any given subject
Has such a soft spot for kids
He's a god-father to Bippin and Blossom's kid, and he adores that little munchkin, bordering on spoiling them.
Imma end it there because it's late and I need to be up early, but I hope this satisfied your curiosity a bit!
Thanks for the ask! I appreciate the chance to talk about all these ideas!

Drinking age
All of the links eras have different ages for when you can legally drink.
Warriors hyrule has the highest, with a drinking age of 21. But people tend to look the other way when it's underage soldiers drinking
Time's hyrule has a drinking age of 20. But it's common for 18/19 year old's to drink in their own home and isn't frowned upon
Legend's hyrule has a drinking age of 19. For Lorule it's 18. 19 for Labrynna and Holodrum. And 20 for Hytopia.
Sky's hyrule has a drinking age of 19 and it's frowned upon for anyone under the age to drink
Twilight's hyrule has a drinking age of 19 and it's frowned upon for people under 17 to drink (not many people care if a 17/18 year old drinks).
Wild's hyrule has a drinking age of 19. Except for the Zora, it's the Zoran equivalent of a 20 year old
Four's hyrule has a drinking age of 18 and people don't care if a 16/17 year old drinks as long as they are responsible about it.
Wind's hyrule it varies island to island. On Outset the drinking age is 18 and on Windfall it's 19. On Wind's private island it doesn't matter for Wind's age he can drink when he likes because it's his island (for everyone else it's 16 and up, except for Tetra's pirate crew)
Hyrule's hyrule has the lowest with a drinking age of 15. And it's greatly frowned upon for anyone under 15 to drink (unless it is very very heavily watered down)
If anyone has their own ideas for this feel free to share
