I swear I talked about a labyrinth au before, but I can’t find the post.

I would love to see a Labyrinth Au with twst.

Malleus being Jareth, the Goblin King/King of Briar Valley. (Fae are known for kidnapping children after all)

YN wishing baby human Grim away 😂😂

YN trying to get baby Grim back while running through the Briar Valley equivalent of the Labryrinth.

Shenanigans ensures, and of course there’s the magical ballroom scene between YN and Malleus.

And then that scene happens with YN and Malleus, “Love me, fear me, and do as I say and I will be your slave.”

Of course, YN gets baby grim back.

But I like to believe YN and Malleus’ story continues beyond this encounter into a more happy ending for them both.

(Edit: Lilia, Silver, and Sebek can be…the dancing goblins/fae that play with baby grim 🤣🤣🤣)

Piranesi by Susanna Clarke

I finally read Piranesi! I first started reading this book in 2021, but I just could not get into it. It just felt like I was forcing myself to get past the first few pages, and so I decided to leave it to one side for a bit.

I recently re-visited it again, after being encouraged by my friend to do so, and I am so glad I did, because this time, I loved it! I took my time with the story, letting Piranesi guide me through the house, as he discovers more about its inhabitants, and how they came to be there. It is truly a strange but fascinating tale of one man and his relationship with the place he inhabits.

The prose is charming, and while I initially found it to meander quite a bit, as I got comfortable with the writing style, I did find that it suited the story it was a part of. It reminded me a bit of Ishiguro’s Klara and the Sun both in terms of the way the writing flowed, and in the way Klara and Piranesi viewed the world around them. There is a marriage of joy and melencoly to both their stories, which I found to be quite beautifully done.

The character of Piranesi is so easy to fall in love with. He sweet, curious, and so at peace with himself, and so open to learning and discovering the world around him. There is a lot we could learn from him.

Born and raised in the Viridian Labryrinth, Fresla has a deep respect for nature. However, he is far from a nurturing soul, and values strength and survival above all else. He understands not only the beauty of nature, but also the dangers it poses to the unwary. He devotedly worships both the Plaguebringer and the Gladekeeper. Normally, Kamphundr would never allow such obvious worship, but she makes an exception in this case. Whether this decision was encouraged by outside forces or not is unknown. However, it's quite likely Kamphundr doesn't want to kick out yet another healer for disobedience... 

Fresla acts as a healer/shaman for the clan of the wastes. He never speaks a word; at least not when anyone is around to hear. He is very reclusive. Most prefer to tend to their own wounds than go see him, but his healing powers are exceptional. Other dragons view Fresla's beliefs as absurd and contradictory, but they wouldn't dare tell him so. Besides his disturbing silence, he is hardly a pleasant sight; even to the mutants who live in his clan. Fresla has vines and roots growing all over his body. They weave in and out of his skin, changing their density by the day. Though they are always moving, they most often wrap around one area in particular: his face. It's unclear if the affliction is simply a result of his natural magic, or a consequnce of his prolonged exposure to toxins, mutagens, and disease.
