“Adrienne,” he had moved towards her once more as she attempted to walk away from him, making her way back through the gardens, grabbing her forearm as he did so.

Adrienne took in her millionth shaky breath, inhaling sharply as if gasping at the warmth of his had on her bare skin once more. “Please-“

“Take it,” Thaddeus said, rather impulsively, a hint of desperation in his voice, pulling her eyes slowly to meet him, “Take whatever it is that you will do greatly regret.” There was a pause between them as Adrienne assessed it all. She could not tidily lock him away from her heart and mind if she allowed herself this indulgence.

He spoke once more, dropping his head a bit for those soft brown eyes to find her bluish-grey ones, his tone pleading with her as he did so. “Please.”

But how could she say no?

How could Adrienne, at this distance, possibly refuse him?

She turned away quickly, hiding her face from him before whipping back around and grabbing his uniform jacket by its fastening, pulling Thaddeus down to kiss her. He let out a muffled exclamation, likely of shock before he sunk into the kiss, forcing it from Adrienne’s aggressive nature to one much softer. He placed a hand on her back, forcing her closer to him, so close that there was not a single amount of space between them as he kissed her for what felt like ages.

It was kind of thrilling.

Quite treacherous indeed.

13. What's a character or ship you haven't written/drawn yet but would like to some day? I'd love to write some Game of Thrones stuff one day (Sandor Clegane or Bronn, probably) but god that's a fucking undertaking. Good news is it'll be a sensible 15.6 years before I can reasonably start another new thing so it gives me time to have a think 🫠

Doesn't help that the idea I have for a Bronn fic is one I'm not even sure I came up with - I have a hunch what I'm the idea I'm thinking of is actually a memory of a Bronn fic I read years ago as a teen, so I'd need to comb through EVERYTHING I can find to make sure that's not the case before I begin, because I refuse to begin without doing that, and even then if I found nothing I'd be worried that I just missed whatever story the idea came from, and uhhhh fuck that. But it's good to have something holding me back from my Fic Aquirement Sickness 😭

I'd also love to write a Phantom of the Opera fic one day. I doubt I could bring anything original to the fandom but I mean, I have the same fear with the Dracula fic and folk are still enjoying it for what it is!

14. Is there a character or ship you were so sure you would never write/draw but now you've changed your mind? It wasn't that long ago on this blog where I was furiously insisting to people that I would never write a Boromir fic, I wouldn't put the stress of tackling Tolkien upon myself, it was too much to attempt, there was no chance.

Anyway, HWFG just cleared the 120k word mark 🤡 (and I'm very grateful to the people who talked me into it!!)

There are other smaller fandoms that I always thought I'd never bother with just because they're so small that I didn't think anybody would read them, but you guys are proving that fear wrong and making my day CONSTANTLY with your willingness to follow me into some truly random bs 💜💜💜💜💜

15. Have you noticed your style change over time?

Absolutely!! Little By Little is my oldest fic that I don't hate, and even then the growing pains within that make me cringe a little (CTW followed it, and that's the earliest one that I still like! It marked the end of me finishing a project and immediately hating it) -- the early chapters in particular are plagued by way too much introspection (listen, I'm an overthinker, I have no concept of how much thinking is too much thinking in general).

It does also change between projects, though, I think, because I try to match the "tone" of the source material to some extent.

I also think it's really cool because most of LBL was written when I began writing daily as a rule, and that's when you really see quick and substantial improvements in my ability, so it's been a great way to measure it all!

Novel work is trickier because I get so nervous when I write it that it impacts the quality, so it's less of a linear thing and more dependent on how I feel on any given day. It's wild going back to chapters I wrote when I was worried about it and editing it from a calm mindset so that it's actually good. That whole process is most of why it's taking me so long 💀. When I finished my first draft and went back to the beginning to read (it was all done by hand, so it was a long time after I'd written the first chapter) I noticed that the first chapter was so bad and then suddenly it just? Got decent? When I found my rhythm and got over the nerves, mostly? That was a nice moment. I promptly worried the pal I was living with at the time by walking laps around her living room because I couldn't believe that it was good and I was too excited to sit down. Good times 😭

2025 goals

you can go back and read my 2024 review post for more context, but i'm ridiculously excited for next year and can't wait to yap at you all about all of the below projects!

i'm still deciding whether to go into detail about my non-writing goals at my main, @prettytothink-so, but my theme of the year is rooted in my tarot card for the year, XVI The Tower. i think of that card as very much the "burn it down and start over" card and there's definitely some resonance there with my approach to revising drafts, which will be my main project next year!

i'm going to list the highlights of my goals and then go into depth under the cut on my reasoning and specific plans for the goals:

write 250,000 words/180 days

complete revisions for conversion, seed of the woman, and might've been, never was

complete first drafts of on fire and heartbeat

gywo goal

my pledge this year is to write 180 days, but my secondary goal is to write at least 250,000 words. i go into detail on my review post, but i wrote 220,000 words across 111 days, so this feels doable! it's easy for me to get a lot of words written when revising -- i tend to re-draft, honestly -- so i don't see an issue with it!

revision goals

conversion: my goal is to complete a third draft of conversion, which entails completing a few high-level plot revisions and some minor character work. my stretch goal would be to have a genuinely ready-to-query draft by the end of the year, but i'll settle for a LBL edit of a fourth draft!

might've been, never was: i have a much clearer idea of the arc for this, so writing the second draft should be fairly doable! if i have a stretch goal, it would be to get this to beta readers!

seed of the woman: the first draft of this one is a MESS, y'all. my goal is to re-outline/zero-draft and then complete the revision!

writing goals

on fire: it feels like cheating to include this because i'm so confident i'll have a first draft done in january, but that's the plan!

heartbeat: this one is still only semi zero-drafted, so i'm hoping to get that done sooner than i typically would and start drafting. i anticipate this being kind of an epic/saga with a lot of weaving plotlines, so i'll give myself some grace on getting it drafted!

Soooo this is greedy, but I want Director's Commentary on Lord Bridgerton's List yup all of it tbh. Which is your fave? Which was the hardest to write? Which took you by surprise with its popularity? Also, when did you decide they would be a married couple playing a scenario? When I read the prologue with the contract negotiation etc, I assumed it was strangers, but in hindsight, I assume that all part of the role play? Fascinating choice, I loved that it was a twist I didn't see coming. And it was BENEDICTS flat?!? I damn near fell off my chair lol.

Which is your fave?

I have a few favorite parts: the first Queen and the General, Edging, Coming Untouched and Regency Masquerade: Anonymous Sex Also, even though writing threesomes are a NIGHTMARE, I’m proud of how well those fics turned out, especially Threesome 2

Which was the hardest to write?

Oh boy, if anyone paid attention to when I was updating the LBL Masterlist as I was writing, they would have seen that Pet Play kept getting pushed back until I FINALLY got it done for day 28. Pet play in itself is perceived by some as a pretty out there kink and I wanted to capture how sweet and playful it actually can be so it sat for a while as I struggled with the tone but I am really pleased with how it turned out!

Which took you by surprise with it’s popularity?

Honestly? All of it! When I started the series I assumed only I cared about how lil Sub!Anthony there was and maybe, MAYBE a few others would enjoy it, but I am BEYOND amazed and humbled that so many people enjoyed and still are enjoying it 🥰 btw, based on likes and Ao3 hits, the top fics from LBL are Anonymous Sex, Coming Untouched and a tie between Cam Boy 2: Overstimulation and Angry Sex which STILL gets new likes weekly

When did you decide they were going to be a married couple playing a scenario?

I’m going to answer your WHOLE last part here. So when I wrote the Prologue I was flying blind, writing as if it was a man hiring a Dom for the month, and believe me, I had no intention of actually writing 31 (34) fics in 31 (34) days but Anthony said it and that’s what happened 🤣

When I got to day 2 or 3, I thought the basic premise needed a twist, and I came up with the Scene-within-a scene idea and that they would be a married couple trying to be switches, and actually wrote Epilogue on day 4, where it remained mostly unchanged, with just minor edits as the main story progressed until November 1. As I wrote the epilogue, I knew Reader was giving the keys back to Sophie thus the decision to make it Benedict’s apartment just made sense. Just don’t think too hard about how implausible it is for one apartment to have all the rooms I described 🤣 I tried very hard to keep the character’s “real” feelings from bleeding through the aftercare scenes until the last handful of parts.

Soooo that’s my commentary! Thanks for the AMAZING ask @faye-tale this was a fun one to reflect back on!

R, S, T for the fanfic game thing-y <3

R: Are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence?

So the thing is, I noticed in my uni years that any time I consciously tried to evoke a certain writer that I liked in specific paragraphs, those were the ones that were flagged by my course leaders as needing to either be edited or taken out completely, so I don't consciously do that shit anymore. That being said, I cry myself to sleep at night because I can't write like Katherine Arden.

For dialogue, the Skulduggery Pleasant series was a big influence bc they're just so funny and they're not afraid to blend serious fantasy vibes with humour. For creative non-fiction, Nikki Sixx's The Heroin Diaries had a big impact and definitely influence that, although non-fic is a whole different animal than fiction.

S: Any fandom tropes you can't resist? Y'know that Pride and Prejudice (2005) thing where like, they both love each other but they both keep misunderstanding the signals and the signs from the other, so each one thinks it's one-sided or that they messed it up too much for there to be a chance of anything remaining there? It's so hard to do well because it can get so tiring, but when it is done well, it drives me mad. North and South is good at it, too.

I also love a slow burn, which ties in. Also when there's a cross-cultural thing going on where one party thinks they're very actively and very obviously courting the other, but the other has no idea and is just quietly baffled and oddly flattered by the series of strange and very specific gestures the other keeps offering.

T: Any fandom tropes you can't stand?

Kids in fiction are so hard to do well - especially in fanfic, you see a lot of eight year olds who either act like fifteen year olds, or like toddlers. (Which makes writing LBL a nightmare - but I've done work experience in schools and I have Youths in my family so I try to imagine how they would act and go from there). Sooo with that in mind, I really hate the whole thing in fiction where they'll have one very precocious child who is part-therapist part-Judge Judy who makes it their sole aim in life to whip the adults around them into shape.

Also, although it's less of a trope and more of a trope-done-badly -- when a character out of time (like in modern girl fics) spends the whole story screeching that the rules of the time are different to their own. Like yeah there are differences and a lot of them will be difficult, but when it's constant "what do you mean I have to wear a skirt?!" etc. over every little petty thing, especially if the canon characters bend to it (because it's great when it's a source of conflict - Outlander does this p well when Claire fucks things up, although it gets annoying that she does it constantly anyway) when ordinarily those characters really wouldn't, it gets annoying. It's also so easy for shit like that to feel like a sanctimonious lecture from the author rather than just an engaging piece of fiction when it goes down that route.
