“I have some suspicion that we aren’t the only group dealing with that problem. As of right now though it’s only a hunch.” Team rocket wasn’t the only crime group around, it would be stupid to target only them. A true mastermind would throw a few random teams in to keep people off the trail.

“An outsider? That's a bit surprising to hear, but I’ll trust your judgement on the matter.”

He nodded softly, distracted by his own thoughts as Vexis made his observation.

“They’re dedicated, for what that’s worth. Loyal to a fault. It’s just a matter of putting your foot down when their minds wander a little too far off course. Petrel’s too much of a goofball to be of any real trouble. It’s Proton that worries me. He’s quick with a knife, that one, and I’ve no room to talk there but it’s a matter of keeping out of sight and out of mind for the time being. It worries me that he might draw more attention than we need right now.”

Not to mention the so-called Rocket thugs doing business on their shores, drumming up trouble and keeping the name Rocket on everyone’s tongues, even when it wasn’t actually Rocket doing the things they were accused of. Archer stepped out of the elevator and into the hotel lobby toward the exit, giving a short nod toward the desk lady as they left. A low chuckle escaped him at the hesitation in Vexis’s voice and he shook his head.

“Oh don’t worry. This one will be of great use to us. He’s already so eager to put a stop to these faux-Rockets and he’s done a great deal of good for us already. It’s just a matter of keeping the wool over his eyes until the time is right.”

“Hey, Vex, you in here?” Delano calls out as he limps into the lab. 

The medbay had been too crowded for Delano’s comfort. He hadn’t wanted to overload the nurses more so he had sneaked off, heading to Vex instead. Delano really hoped Vex was in, that’d mean he’d have to walk to Jax’s office. Not that Delano hated seeing Jax, it was that he had walked more than enough for today.

Waiting for an answer, Delano pulled out a chair and sat with a tight sigh. Whoof. That client really had done a number on him. Good thing he could neatly just roll the blame on those Team Sleight goons.

Hoopa must’ve been in a particularly mischievous mood today, if the way he’d dropped Lear in a damn lake was any indication. The prince had struggled just a little to get out, his water-logged coat a lot heavier than he was used to, but he’d managed, stumbling onto the shore, coughing, sputtering, and cursing.

Of course, that was the moment he noticed that he wasn’t as alone as he’d thought. Aah, what a way to make a first impression.

She opens the small agenda she keeps at a set page, full of names and arrows; her expression scrunches in furious concentration.

"From the top again. Jean likes Rattatas. But Marcus also likes Rattatas, but dislikes Jean, so he doesn't want to say he likes the same pokémon as the other. His second favorite is Jigglypuff, but he fears the others might see it as girly and hides it, so he says he likes Houndooms instead. But here's the thing - Helena is afraid of dogs, so when Marcus says he wants one she starts crying. And if Helena starts crying, then the small ones - Arthur, Marie, and Bernadette - start crying too."

She licks her lips, drinks a sip of coffee from her flask. Then she starts again.

"This prompts the 'grownups', Daniel and Rose, to start going for them, because they have to calm down the small ones because 'they are grownups', so they try to steal the jar of cookies to distribute them among everyone and stop them from crying. Which is all nice and good, but I am still legally dead so I can't go around buying cookies, which means I have to raid the pantry and bake them instead. And that's when Clara, bless her, she offers to help, but she burned herself once already and I don't want her to hurt herself again."

More coffee. The page on the booklet gets turned rapidly, to another series of name.

"I'd ask for help to the grownups - the actual grownups, I mean - but David and Steven are on a mission, Eleanor is on guard duty, and Anna manages to burn everything she touches, it's almost a superpower."

The agenda is slammed shut. On Diana's face sets an expression of grim determination.

"Again. I need to bake three jars of cookies. Help me."
