Why NejiTen should be canon

Before I say anything, I can recognise that NejiTen is not canon, although I want it to be lol. Everyone has a right to their own opinion, so I ask that you respect mine, and if you want to challenge it, you can *politely* do that in the comments.

The major countering ships to NejiTen are: NejiHina and LeeTen, so I will talk you through why these ships don't work out.

First with LeeTen (because I don't want you quitting after the drama of NejiHina). Lee and Tenten are seen as very close throughout the series, though Tenten makes it clear that she finds Lee annoying and hot-blooded. This is the opposite to Neji, who Tenten seems to admire a lot, since she liked to train with him, and even put on lipstick in the manga for his chūnin exam finals. They seem like the perfect best friend duo, in my opinion. Romance doesn't need to be involved in every since best friend duo, there are enough of them already. In the Boruto series, Lee is seen with his son, Metal Lee. Many think that Tenten is the mother, due to the eye shape, and I think she could easily be. I mean, she's the only kunoichi in Konoha in the same age group as Lee (I think, I haven't fact checked yet), and the girl in his team. Tenten is probably the easiest choice for Lee's wife that Kishimoto could've made. However, if they were to be married and have had a son together, they would now be divorced. This therefore means, that if they had got married, then the relationship would not have worked out, and LeeTen would've failed. If they had not got together, then Lee would've married a different woman, and even if Lee then divorced that mystery woman, they clearly do not have mutual feelings for each other any more. They might have had feelings for each other, at different stages of their lives, but they either both grew out of their crushes or it was only one-sided to begin with.

Second. The NejiHina incident. I'm sorry, but I will have to go on for even longer than LeeTen, because some people don't understand that this ship is incest, and I'll tell you why. Excluding the fact that Neji had strong resentment towards Hinata for quite a period of time, they still wouldn't work out. Their relationship only evolved into *family* love, as confirmed by Kishimoto, just as Boruto loves Himawari, or Temari loves Gaara. What's wrong with a "big brother-little sister love"? Why must everyone make everything romantic? Neji cares deeply for his cousin, as does Hinata. She calls him 'Big Brother Neji', showing that she only sees him as her older brother. Besides, Hinata was so deeply in love with Naruto, she would've never agreed to the marriage. Moving on, a lot of people, from a range of cultures, some of which invite cousin relationships, think that Neji and Hinata getting married and producing heirs is okay. Some of them (purposely?) forget that the reason you don't have kids with your sibling is because it increases the chance of genetic defects dramatically. Although having kids with your cousin is legal (at least where I am), it still has quite a high risk. These people try and back it up by saying that the Hyūga clan would've wanted a pure Hyūga-blooded heir. Hm... Uchiha clan, anyone? Sure, this was common, but there are plenty Uchihas that are so distantly related that it would be fine to have offspring (such as Itachi and Izumi). The same could be said about the Hyūgas. Maybe Neji would've been their best option for a pure blood husband, but there would've been other choices, more people that were much further distanced in relation. I've got this far, and I haven't even mentioned another key fact: you know that Hiashi and Hizashi are twin brothers, right? Identical twins, to be exact. Lemme show you something: "Identical (i.e., monozygotic, or MZ) twins share 100 percent of their genes". You see that? It means that Hiashi and Hizashi share the same DNA. And this means that Neji and Hinata are genetically closer than cousins. They're actually genetically half-siblings. Hm. The Hyūgas are smart enough to figure out that it probably isn't the best idea to inbreed them, right? Well. That doesn't matter, because even if they overlooked all this incestuous evidence, there's this. Hinata isn't even the current heiress. If Neji survived the war, he would not have married Hinata in Boruto. If the Hyūga clan forced him to marry the heiress, and have children to keep a pure bloodline, he would've married Hanabi. Hanabi is the current heiress, so she would be the one married to Neji. Got it yet? Neji and Hinata would never have happened.

The last reason NejiTen should be canon: their chemistry. Tenten is shown to greatly admire and respect Neji, constantly calling him a genius, and she has blushed because of him in the manga several times. He believed in her abilities enough to sit under the practice dummy she was hitting with kunai. Neji comments that her fight would be interesting, showing that he thinks she is a good fighter. He is also shocked at her defeat, further proving that. In the first databook, Kishimoto confirms that Neji and Tenten trained every day for a month in preparation for Neji's chūnin match against Naruto. During this training, Neji reverse engineered and perfected the moves only reserved for the main branch of the Hyūga clan, mainly the Eight Trigrams Sixty-Four Palms and the Eight Trigrams Palms: Revolving Heaven. You should also note that while all the other contestants trained with jōnin, Neji chose to train with Tenten. "During one of their training sessions, birds are shown flying in the sky and Tenten tells him that she is exhausted and can't keep going. Neji responds that he thinks he used too much of his chakra and faints. Tenten is seen running to him and asks him if he's alright." Tenten wore a different outfit to watch Neji's match, and as I said, in the manga she also wore lipstick. After his fight with Kidomaru, Neji remembers seeing Lady Tsunade with Tenten. In the Shippuden, during Team Gai's fight with Kisame, Neji rushes to Tenten's side when she seems to struggle in the Water Prison.

In the image above, it shows the two finishing each other's sentences. They can communicate with little dialogue and know what the other is thinking with only one word. Tenten winks at Neji and invites him to go to the bathhouse with her, both in the anime and the manga. Later, after Neji's death, in the manga, she expresses anger, thinks about Neji and asks why he left her. In her memory, Neji doing the "nice guy pose," which has been performed in the past by Gai, Naruto and Lee. The pose signifies that one will keep their promise until death, as Lee states to Sakura during the beginning of the Sasuke retrieval arc after Naruto does the pose and promises to her that he will get Sasuke back. Neji doing this pose before Tenten implies that he promised her something that he intended to fulfill until his death. In the anime, Tenten holds her hands in a prayer and asks why he left her as she remembers Neji doing this "nice guy pose" to her, then she walks away crying and says that she's never going to forgive him. The implied promise that Neji made to her is not known, but it was significant enough for Neji, who tends to be stoic and serious, to use the cheerful and significant pose his "hot-blooded" sensei and teammate have used in the past. When caught in the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Tenten dreams of more mature versions of Lee and Gai as well as Neji being alive and by her side. She's the only person whose Tsukuyomi dream involves not only Neji being alive, but being with him.

They are shown constantly beside one another throughout the entire story, similar to the couples Asuma and Kurenai, and Shikamaru and Temari. While Neji is very formal and strict, he is shown to be comfortable around Tenten. He isn't shown to mind when she teases him or winks at him. He is also rarely portrayed as a character who apologizes to anyone, but he is shown apologizing to Tenten. In both the manga and anime, birds are present during the scenes where Neji and Tenten are shown alone together. In the manga, the only male character Tenten is shown alone with is Neji.

Other Trivia include:

Tenten's name and Neji's themes compliment each other. "Tenten" literally translates to "heaven heaven" in Chinese, while "Hyūga" translates to "place in heaven." In the new Chūnin Exams arc, Neji is shown holding two heaven scrolls with the characters 天天

Tenten's weapons shop in Boruto is named 忍具転転転, which directly translates to "Ninja Tools Turn Turn Turn." Furthermore, the characters "具転転" in the name translate to "revolving." Thus, the name of Tenten's weapons shop can be a reference to one of Neji's primary moves, Eight Trigrams Palms Revolving Heaven.

During the blank period, Tenten wears a uniform that includes a dress with a flame pattern similar to the flame in the Hyūga clan's emblem.

Neji and Tenten are depicted as compatible: the Databooks reveal that Neji is a Cancer and Tenten is a Pisces. In Western astrology, Cancer and Pisces are considered a compatible and harmonious pairing. The Databooks list Neji's blood type as O and Tenten's blood type as B. The blood type personality theory popular in Japan considers O and B blood types romantically compatible.

Neji, during his death, is portrayed as a Phoenix on fire. In the anime, Tenten utilizes the moves "Twin Rising Dragons" and "Exploding Dragon Strike." In Chinese folklore, the Phoenix and Dragon pair symbolize perfect harmony and balance between yin (Phoenix) and yang (Dragon).

Among the Konoha 11, Neji and Tenten were the only ones who were 18 years old during the Shinobi war, whereas Naruto and Hinata were 16 years old and the rest were 17.

Neji and Tenten share the same hairstyles as Hashirama Senju and his wife Mito Uzumaki.

The first fandom I ever developed a ship for was actually Naruto. I was in a few fandoms like Prince of Tennis and Ghost in the Shell, but for some reason Naruto resonated with me the most lol

14. In Naruto, it was a tie between NejiTen and LeeSaku. Upon first view of Neji and Tenten I was like THEM. But then, I saw how Lee went out of his way to protect Sakura in the Forest of Death the way he did and how much of a dick Sasuke was to Sakura is was like Lee is here and ready to love you girl! Sasuke isn't ready yet for your love!!!

19. I can usually be convinced with good fan art and fanficiton... but I'd have to say NejiHina is my top no-no ship. I find their familial ties a bit of a road block for me their fathers are twins, which genetically they are half siblings/cousins. Neji did have a lot of growth as a character, but I saw his acts of service to Hinata being a way to make up for being such an asshole to her for a situation he had very limited information about until he got clapped by Naruto and Hiashi spoke to him. I think Neji felt guilty and wanted to make it up to Hinata to fill that role of protector, not really a romantic kind of love. An during the war arch, he does show that he is filling that older brother vibe with Hinata and she is absolutely delighted that he has stopped hating her and the main branch. Also, Hinata was basically written for Naruto specifically, they were always going to be end game. In Naruto SD/Rock Lee and pals, it was hard for me to watch; Neji was a bit out of character and I understand that it was supposed to be a comedic rendering to break up the seriousness of the war...but it also wasn't cannon either, it just followed the timeline. Neji's love for Hinata was overly played and a bit cringey to what was already established for his cannon character; especially in pre-shippuuden Neji tries to support Hinata in going to see Naruto before he leaves for training for a few years. To me *holds up hands in defense* that's familial love, not really a romantic thing.

InoSasu- absolutely not. LeeTen- I used to like this idea, but Tenten treats Lee like crap as a gennin according to the flashbacks, and she is written like the babysitter for Lee/"mom" friend for Lee and Gai in the games and anime. They give big bestie, sibling energy to me. KibaHina- also a ship I considered, but Kiba teases Hinata too much like a brother.I have a love-hate relationship with SasuSaku; hear me out. Sakura deserved better writing, she deserved better character development, and she deserved a bigger apology from Sasuke. This girl busted her ass to love this man for her whole life and he treats her like basura the majority of the anime. Yes he does show hints of caring for her, but when I read the soft novels, it was implied that Sasuke only got with her because she was persistent with him. I love that Sakura followed her heart and was dead set on Sasuke, but I hate that she tolerated that disrespect for so long. Sakura is good for Sasuke to teach him how to love and she is his light, but I just hated how it was written that she was so smitten by him it became her whole personality! Sakura is such a great character with a lot of growth potential but she was used a ploy for Sasuke.

my biggest piece of evidence is this:

people start talking about sakura's crush on sasuke and ino gets upset.... at sasuke, not sakura. unfortunately, i haven't been able to find the raw of that part of that scene, and i don't own that volume yet, so i can't say for sure what it says in the original

anyway, we first see ino at the end of the wave arc/start of the chuunin exams arc, but we don't really get to meet her until team seven shows up for the first part of the exam

ok, so this is the sasuke to sakura's naruto, easy enough to understand. what's interesting here, though, is that ino might be looking at sasuke, and talking to him, but what she accomplishes is irritating sasuke - and, more importantly, getting sakura's attention.

ino is very, VERY invested in sakura paying attention to her.

this scene is an excellent example of that (and a personal fav bc of the light leeten hint that i can see~). lee's just gotten his ass kicked for sakura, who is of course grateful, and we're shown naruto's very blatantly jealous reaction (and if you're a leeten sucker like i am, tenten's more subdued jealous reaction). but ino? ino doesn't bother playing that game. ino goes directly (i initially wrote "straight" but. there's nothing straight about that girl lmao) to what she knows will work: yelling, and offering to fix up sakura's hair for her

but at the same time, ino is afraid of sakura surpassing her - if they aren't rivals for sasuke's affection, then what reason does sakura have to stay in her life? they aren't friends anymore, they're rivals, and so long as they're on equal ground, ino won't have to worry about sakura leaving her behind

the scene where sakura says she wants naruto and sasuke to watch her back is pretty well known, but what's interesting is how frequently "watching sakura's back" shows up in relation to ino.

at the very beginning of their fight, we're shown the two of them facing off - and we the readers are the one's "watching [sakura's] back"

when we look into ino's memories of sakura, we see ino in that position (could not find the raw for this scene either)

ino wants sakura's attention, she doesn't want to be watching her back, she wants to see sakura looking at her

this actually manages to make a comeback during the war arc, in spite of,,,, everything,,,, when inoichi dies and uses his last words to ino to discuss her feelings concerning sasuke and sakura. i don't have the image available on my laptop, but i do own the volume, so i can share some of the dialogue

'forward-facing love'... right? ......that isn't the clover's only meaning in hanakotoba... more than anything, what dad is most proud of is you facing your friend... it's "[word that means love/heart/desire/feelings/etc written with a character that has connotations of heart-felt]". you let me watch a beautiful clover flower bloom..."

there's a lot of flower language stuff and bc it's manga words meaning multiple things in ways that don't translate great into english so i'm gonna wrap this up (i've been writing this for like. two hours now so. i am kinda tired and my cat wants food lol) but ino is gay as hell and no one is changing my mind on this that girl is a lesbian to her bones

genuinely my belief that ino was never really interested in sasuke and actually liked sakura the whole time is so deeply embedded in me that every time i read a fic where ino is just as sasuke-crazy as sakura, i have to remind myself that. technically that is the case

letters to neji [#18] - LeeTen

On a considerably lighter note than Chess at the moment, heres some more LeeTen because I’ve missed them. I love the short and sweet nature of these chapters, too.

Leeten is wonderful...anyway - enjoy!

Dear Neji,

Okay, I was hoping that maybe I’d manage more than twelve hours after my last letter before I sent you another, but I suppose I’m just a little too ecstatic after last night.

You know what happened, vaguely, but I do have to apologise for just ditching you like that. I have the chance now, because...well, Lee and I woke up late - very late - sprawled across the sofa in each others arms. It’s late, so while I get up, Lee offered to go grab us some lunch and bring it back here.

We talked a lot last night, about so many different things. About me, about him, and also about you. His arm draped around my shoulders as we chatted, and my fingers laced through his as I listened, hanging onto the edge of each syllable he shared. He is so similar to me, although sometimes I forget that he is all alone in this world beside his friends. As I listened, I came to appreciate him all over again, and I cried more than I ever thought I would because Lee, in one sitting at least.

He is just so strong, and to know he’s felt the way he does about me now for months, and I never gave him the chance to mention it, or acknowledged what was clearly how he was feeling, made my body shake. 

We overcame so much as a trio, and fought to better ourselves every day. You made Lee and I feel less of ourselves, but that isn’t your fault - you couldn’t help being better than we were - and I’d argue it made Lee and I better people. The way three lives can affect each other like that still astounds me, and I wish I could live my whole life again, just to relive the most precious of moments.

Lee got a hard time from us, and we always had someone to go home to, but he never did. He listened to us, then to Gai-Sensei, and then he’d go. I can’t say I ever questioned where he went, or why nobody was bothered that he’d stay out through the night and into the early morning to train. I knew he was alone, deep down, but I wasn’t. So I never understood it.

But he’s strong, stronger than I ever will be and stronger, at least in will, than you, Neji. Still, at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter who’s stronger, or who loves who. The three of us, we’re still a team, no matter what.

Only one thing was decided between talks last night, and that was that nobody needs to know yet. Nothing happened between us...nothing more than a cuddle on the couch and a kiss on the forehead as he left, anyway. And, while I know I feel it, I still didn’t tell him how much I do truly love him, and I’ve been beating myself inside over not doing so, but I’m starting to question if it’s really that bad a thing.

In reality, Neji, I didn’t need to tell him explicitly, did I? I told him how much he meant to me, I listened for hours and never let go of him - such actions say things words never could, because they prove them.

I think I have just one wall I have to overcome in order for everything to be normal in my life - or at least as normal as it can get here - and that’s definitely you. Not in that way, we both know that’s been and gone. But I write to you like it’s a drug; yes, it calms me and it makes me feel less alone, but...I have people in my life. I’m not alone, and I can finally see that now, to the extent I always should have.

That’s why I’m so embarrassed that I couldn’t stop myself writing to you, and detailing everything about last night. I’m going to have to stop myself listing everything from the flavour of our tea to every note to his aftershave, because I could do that to Sakura, or I could do that in a diary.

I do believe with all my heart that you read my letters, Neji. I believe you’d read anything I put in front of you because I know you know how much I miss you. Your flowers keep more alive than anyone else’s I see in the cemetery, almost as if your life-force keeps on, and puts all it can into keeping them upright and blooming...it’s what I feel you’ve done for me just by hearing me out. 

But I’m aware that you have others to help in your afterlife, and you have many more people to watch over. There are rumours of something happening to your little cousin, to Hanabi, but I’m sure I don’t need to tell you. I’m sure you’ve seen it all, that you’ll protect her if you can.

Hinata needs you right now Neji, much more than Lee does, and much more than I do now that he’d by my side.

I can hear Lee chatting to the lady next door about her cat, so I think I ought to sign off for the moment. Now this time, I promise you, I’ll leave you be a while before writing again. Lee and I are probably going to be busy if all the rumours are true, anyway, and we will try our hardest - you have my word.

And you also have my word that when he comes through that door with lunch, I will wrap my arms around him in a hug that shows him how much he means to both of us. I will take care of him, and he will take care of me.

I think we can do without your guidance for a little while, but don’t disappear on us, okay?

I think hate makes you blind, because their interactions/development are no different from other ships in the series.

I know love is subjective, some people need to see a kiss or physical contact, or eye contact, or an expressive display of love.

But you know, each person is different and their display of love depends on their personality. When you create a character, you have to adapt their behavior to their personality. It's normal that Naruto shouts everywhere that he's in love with Sakura, that's his personality! It's the same with Sakura and Ino with Sasuke.

But, throughout the series, if we remove the blank day to be equal to Neji and Tenten (because they weren't lucky enough to have a blank day's scene), have you seen Sasuke display a thing of love towards Sakura? Have you seen Temari display a thing of love towards Shikamaru, or even Shikamaru towards Temari? or even Sai towards Ino, in Shippuden?

I want to tell you no, I've never seen any expressive display of love between them all. And if you tell me yes, I pretty much know the reason for your answer:

1. For Sasuke, you will tell me that : "he protected Sakura during the Chunin exam, and wanted to beat the guys who beat her up"

=> Ok, he protected her and I guess protecting someone is considered a love thing.

So, Neji also protected Tenten in the anime and the manga (⬆️ the first image above +⬇️)...

2. Sasuke again: I think back to that war scene, where Sasuke catches up with Sakura and looks at her ... Anyway, physical contact and eye contact.

=> GO REWATCH OR WATCH EPISODE 14 of Shippuden ! AND "CURRY OF LIFE" of Naruto. NejiTen shared all of this !

3. For ShikaTema... Except in the blank day, I don't remember them having an expressive display of love ... maybe when Temari saves Shikamaru? I think the main reason is that they're look cute together. From this, you can talk about a hint of romantic love, that they've been secretly in love with each other since their fight in Chunin exam (and no one will say the opposite because everyone loves them :) )

=> The same goes for NejiTen : they are always shown together, in the same thumbnails, and training together. From this, we, NejiTen fans CAN see a hint of romantic love throughout the story as well.

4. InoSai... I'm sorry, but except in blank day, I really don't remember any display of love between them... they just look cute together...

5. Talking about blank day, even if Neji and Tenten don't have their moment because Neji is dead. Kishi devoted a few lines to them in the novel, in Neji's diary.

The story has shown us the different problems encountered in the world of ninjas : people's mentality towards hosts ; Uchiwa and Hyuga clan ; wars and more. The world of ninja was destined to change and get better.

About Hyuga clan, Neji wanted to change his clan, change his destiny. During his fight with Naruto, Naruto tells him that he can change his destiny. From this episode, the Hyuga clan started to change.

It's not a reason. He's a fictional character, so he's not really dead. He has stayed alive through art, fiction and more.

The death of a character doesn't stop a ship, for example : ObiRin, Yahikonan, TsunadeDan.

letters to neji [#14] - LeeTen

2 in 1 day - damn this is rare.

So, in this chapter I kind of use my own sad sad headcanon that Lee is an orphan, and that’s why his family was never explored within the manga or the anime. Anyway, I hope you all enjoy this and the beginning of Lee’s connection to the letters :)

Dear Neji,

So this morning when I woke up, Lee was already gone. 

Last night was okay - he slept on the sofa and he cooked me curry, like I thought he would. He tried to tell me why he came but he was vague as anything. All he managed to get out was that he came to tell me that he was grateful and that I mattered, which was sweet, and I thanked him. We played cards again and he fell asleep in my lap again so I had to pry myself out of that, but I left him a note. It said:

‘Thank you for coming (and for dinner). I know there’s something bothering you, and I’m sorry I can’t seem to help. But I’m always here for you. Sleep well.’

 When I came to see him after I got up, I noticed he’d also written on it, simply saying:

‘Thanks Tenten, but I am fine. Please come to our usual training spot this evening, I would like to see you. Lee’

It was weird to me, because I thought that we were coming to see you today, but obviously I couldn’t question him, so I let it slide. I strode to the flower shop, grabbed you some sunflowers and made my way to you. Secretly, I think I was hoping I’d see Lee there; that he’d be stood with you or something, but I found nothing.

Shikamaru was visiting his father with Temari, that blonde girl from the sand - I’m sure you remember who she is, why did I write that? Anyway, she’s here on business a lot recently, but I saw her hand brushing his while he stood looking down and I thought I saw him brush back. I’m not nosey, at least I usually don’t like to be, but it was nice. Whether that is something more, or just a kind soul helping a hurt one, it was wonderful.

Mostly it made me think of Lee again, and how we do that for one another. I still don’t know what happened to Lee’s family. All is know is that he’s alone and has been since I’ve known him. I know he’s always lived alone, and so I assume his mother and father passed on, but I can’t say I’ve ever seen him go to their graves before. Still, it makes me wish I knew. If my parents left this world, Lee would comfort me. Even if they’ve been gone from the beginning, he deserves the same you know, Neji?

As I walked toward you, I greeted Shikamaru and Temari. He lit a cigarette and accidentally blew the smoke in my face. I coughed, and Temari smacked his arm lightly, and he apologised, rubbing his eyes. They were red. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Shikamaru cry, and though I know he has many times, it touched me. I wanted to hug him, but I didn’t need to; he was done, and he was okay. For whatever reason he had Temari by his side, and he was able to smile at me.

As they walked away, I looked over to you, and smiled when I saw that there were flowers already on your resting place; daffodils. Lee had been. Still, I placed the sunflowers at my feet, because it will make Hinata happy. Though it made my heart flutter to see Lee’s favourite flowers, now my favourite’s, too, down there, I felt a stinging jealously that they weren’t in my hands for once, ready to put in a vase when I got home. I’m sorry, Neji, they are yours after all. They were always meant to be.

Just as I was about to leave I noticed that, beneath the daffodils, a piece of paper was wriggling to be free in the wind. It was folded up and, assuming it was for you, I merely wanted to unfold it and place it back down the way it was intended: for you to read.

But I didn’t, and I’m sorry. I, dreadfully, let my curiosity get the better of me and I scanned over it, and when I saw who’d signed their name I read it over and over again.

I don’t know if you did get to read it, but it started to rain when I placed it back down, tucked daintily between the two bouquets, and the ink began to run. But if you did, Neji, I don’t know what to do. How am I supposed to meet him tonight? What am I supposed to say?

Oh, heck, I wish you could answer me, Neji.

Dear Neji,

I write having full understanding that you will not read it. I write knowing that I wrote to you before and nothing came of it. It is not your fault; if you could then you would, but you cannot and that is just how it must be.

But, Neji, I love her, and I am unsure what I am to do. She cannot feel the same - I know too well that she loves you. It hurts me that I know how much she’s always loved you.

I have asked to meet her tonight.

I have asked that she meet me where we train.

I hope it will be normal enough. I pray that it will be normal. 

Do you think it will? I hope it will, Neji. I ever so hope it will.

God, I know I am not inept but it times like this that I feel it. While I may have grown up, while I am not so intense day-to-day, I cannot figure it out one bit. I see love all around. I know it, I feel it. But I have not got my father to help. I cannot go to Naruto or to even Gai sensei. They cannot help me.

I need someone to help me.

It is tearing me up inside. I went to her door last night, a ragged mess after I tried to ask Gai sensei what to do. He told me not to tell her I asked him, just to show up and ask her to dinner. But that is weird, is it not? She was finally at home, finally settled. After all she had done taking care of me, to drag her from that was not right. I missed her, so I went all the same, a mess of excitement and misplaced hair and I tried to smile when she spoke to me, but I could not make it come out right.

So much so that she did not understand. She spoke in past tense of our time, of her care, and while she corrected herself, I knew it could not be natural.

How do I get past this, Neji? While I love her, I know it cannot be, not while she still cares for you so. That last man she dated lasted a mere few days - she was not ready. What is the difference between me and that handsome man she saw back then?

I am not handsome, I am not smart, and I am not stylish. I have always tried hard, always trained, but never have I been prepared for this. I was a kid when I loved Sakura, ambitious and fearless. Then, it did not matter. Deep down I always knew that path would be a failure, but this one...I do not know if I could take it.

Still, I will see her tonight, I hope, and I will try my best to tell her.
