Fooduary Day 9: Lemon Bars

While lemons were used in deserts for a way, way long time, they weren't really made into what we call Lemon Bars until they were officially Lemon Bars in 1962. Making the Lemon bars the most recent dessert invention so far. And yes, of course I had to go with a pillbox hat, but I might have gotten carried away with the powdered sugar.

Lavender Lemon Bars

So I actually made these on Monday but I didn’t post because they weren’t super aesthetically pleasing, but I have since decided a baked good is a baked good so here they are!

I got the recipe from Sugar Hero and just used lavender out of my garden to put into the crust and filling. They’re turned out yummy they’re just VERY sweet! But yet at the same time tart haha. All in all they were good but I couldn’t taste the lavender much but that may be my fault for not putting the lavender in the food processor before I mixed it into the sugar.

I’m on your mom’s side. lemon/citrus is a sharp taste. It can be nice but partly bc it’s a bit of a shock; citrus is a wake up call and in-your-face. That’s not what grief wants; when you’re grieving you want comfy, comforting foods, sticky sweets, chocolate, some fruits … but not lemon

My mom accidentally joined a grieving support group (long story, she's not grieving tho) and she's missing it this week while visiting me and she's VERY concerned that Lorraine, who very kindly offered to bring a baked good like mom usually would, will NOT bring the correct kind of dessert, she says citrus tarts aren't "griefy" enough
