Evan Buckley loves public libraries and he loves using them. When he was a kid they were an escape from home, and when he was traveling around and living in his Jeep they were places he could visit, for free. Where he could stay warm and entertained. Where he could check his email and apply for jobs. Where he could learn about whatever new topic caught his interest, or maybe studying up for the job he's working. He has library cards from every town he's been in that would let him sign up, but even if he couldn't get a library card he was always a regular patron wherever he lived.

And, sure, now he has a steady, well paying job and a solid roof over his head, but he still gets almost all of his books from the library because it's hard to break years of habit, and more importantly, it's important to support your local library.

And, really, do you think he would have money or space if he bought every book on every topic he ever wanted to read on his research spirals? With the library he can also easily get his hands on out of print book and watch documentaries that aren't on any streaming services.

Buck is on a first name basis with all the librarians at the branches he visits. The one by his loft. The one by the station. And more recently, the one by Tommy's house. He has a dedicated tote bag for his library books, one that says 'I like big books and I cannot lie' that Chim bought for him as a gag gift. He always leaves the library with a huge stage of books and DVDs, regardless of if he's picking up his holds or just browsing. His holds almost always take up a shelf on their own, and the librarians always ask him about what he's researching and what he's learned and they oftentimes have suggestions for other titles for him to read. (Some of them have gotten his permission to start slipping them into his hold stack).

And! Buck doesn't just borrow physical books, he uses Libby and Hoopla, and he watches documentaries on Kanopy, and he uses the other subscriptions and services that the library is subscribed to. And he borrows DVDs and video games and board games, for date nights and game nights and when he's watching the various children in his life. He attends programs and workshops when his schedule allows and he has an interest, and he's always sending interesting programs to Hen and Karen to take Denny and Mara to, and Eddie to bring Chris to, and Maddie and Chim to take Jee to.

He wishes that he had more time to be more involved member of the Friends, but he gives his money to their fundraisers and he did join the Friends so he pays his dues and attends the meetings he can and fills out the surveys.

Just. Buck loves the library and I don't think he actually goes to the book store that often.

Prompt 29 - Hogwarts Library

Remus could honestly live in the library at Hogwarts. It had everything he could ever want to read and more. Plus, it had a rather secluded section in the stacks that Madam Pince rarely checked on. 

This was where Remus currently was, being pressed into the shelves by Sirius Black as they kissed. Sirius had his hands under Remus’s jumper, and Remus had his fingers tangled in Sirius’s lustrous locks. 

He relaxed into Sirius’s hands and grinned like a loon when Sirius dragged him as close as possible. They’d have to make the long journey back to Gryffindor Tower if they wanted to go any further, but for now, Remus was perfectly happy being ravaged beside a bunch of long-forgotten, dusty pages.

✨️ Library Sale Book Haul! ✨️

My local library has a book sale room I recently rediscovered and my quick trip today netted me a whole stack of treasure!!!

you doodle tiny drawings on the edges of your reports. no matter what department you're a part of, you've always made little idle doodles in the margins of any papers you happen to have, even if you need to give it to your Sephirah. it's fun, in the evenings when there's not much to do beside sit on your bed and talk and talk and talk. sometimes talking is as exhausting as the work is. so you draw instead, little flowers and stars and birds and whatever else you remember from before you came to the facility. perhaps it'll make somebody smile- you hope it does. it makes you smile, too.

the habit doesn't stop when Extraction opens again, unknowingly. your first report to Binah, your new Sephirah, has a doodle of a cat in the corner. she doesn't comment on it, and you never stop. your papers slowly develop something akin to a border of small drawings around your neatly written words, all in the familiar violet ink of your pen. and perhaps, when you deliver them at the end of the day, Binah's apathetic expression has grown a little softer, lighter, her tarnished rings gleaming dully as she takes the reports from your hands.

one day, a file from the previous night is settled neatly on your desk, and in the leftmost corner is a neatly drawn raven, all done up finely in solid black ink.

it has been… a year to say the least.

but I just moved into a new apartment- my first one on my own.

I am one week away from finishing my first year of medical school

I think we’re gonna be okay :)

April Hopefuls 🌱

aka my yallwest Prep TBR because it's official: I'm going to yallwest this year!!! I've been wanting to go for years now and this year i've finally managed to make preparations in advance to make it happen

now that the author list is finalized, i want to prioritize books on my physical tbr by authors that will be in attendance. a few of these would be rereads, a few are books by fav authors i just haven't gotten around to, and a few are completely new to me authors that I'm expecting to love and hoping to meet in May!
