{MASSIVE SPOILERS UNDER THE CUT}

Harding:

Feelings: Az thinks that Harding is one of the coolest people he's ever met & is absolutely in awe of how she's able to take her new abilities in stride {better stride than he would anyway}. He also is extremely inspired by her absolute resolve to help her fellow dwarves recover from the horrors inflicted on them by the Evanuris. Bonding Activity: They spend a lot of time talking about Cheese & Hardings stories of the Inquisition. They also talk about coping with their respective deep seated anger about things, though Harding only really talks about her rage over the Evanuris due to not wanting to upset Rook who as far as she thinks is very clearly not coping with Varric's loss. {If only she knew.} Post Tearstone Island: They start to talk about Varric, ALOT. Not constantly, they still talk about things they used to but their anger conversations quickly turn to also include grief conversations about Varric. They share stories about him, Harding talks about how he was in the Inquisition days, and they make a yearly visit to The Hanged Man with the Inquisitor, Hawke, Isabella and the rest of the Kirkwall Crew. The pair also frequently send letters to eachother with life updates, gossiping about people in their lives, and updates on any enemies they encounter that they think are important to let the other know about.

Neve:

Feelings: Work bestie that slowly turns into real bestie.

He was nervous around her at first, but warmed up to her & calmed down when he realised she didn't judge him for the Nessus job or think him incompetent for it. Thinks she's the best of the Shadow Dragons, wishes he had her intelligence / investigative skills very frequently too. Bonding Activity: Talking about all sorts of things: previous Shadow Dragon jobs, current Shadow Dragon jobs, gossip about their fellow Shadows, they bond a lot as the 2 people from the team that grew up in not only Minrathous but also POOR Minrathous AND as Laetans {Mages born to Non Mage Families.} Post Tearstone Island: They meet weekly for Hals fish and trade stories about their current jobs. He also frequently helps Neve and Rana on some of their cases whenever he has free time and the two of them swap intel with him frequently. They also have double dates {Neve & Lucanis / Az & Emmrich} every few months just to chat shit and sample the First Talons fancy wine selection - though Lucanis doesn't mind since he gets to see his friends & Neves also happy.

Bellara:

Feelings: His little sister in trashy romance, awful smut & in trying to figure out how to talk to cute people.

He really appreciates that their brains seem to work in a lot of the same ways, and really appreciates that they can oscillate between talking a bunch and then just sitting in a comfortable Autistic silence while Bell writes / tinkers & he reads / daydreams. Bonding Activity: They frequently meet up to brainstorm ideas for Bellaras stories, Rook is also Bell's First In Line Beta reader.

They often talk about the trashy romances they're reading, the awful smut they've been obsessed with AND when he finally takes the plunge, Az FREQUENTLY gushes to Bellara about Emmrich. Post Tearstone Island: Bellara makes monthly visits to the Necropolis to meet up with both Rook & Emmrich. In the day: she and Rook will hang out and talk about whatever their most recent literary hyperfixations are! And once Emmrich is done with work the three of them will go get something nice to eat & Rook will nod along and listen to Bell & Emmrich talk about all the intricacies of magic / whatever they're currently both researching. Bellara also sends Az drafts of her work for him to Beta Read. Rook also 1000% helps Bell ask Irelin out again now that she is in a better place emotionally and actually has time for a relationship again. It's very cute, sometimes Bellara and Irelin even join in on the Neve & Lucanis / Rook & Emmrich double dates to make it a triple date on the rare occasion they're all actually free.

Lucanis:

Feelings: Low key jealous of Lucanis' masterful cooking / baking skills. He also thinks Lucanis' abilities to hide more knives on his body than Rook can count is an amazing talent. Does wish Lucanis would actually get some rest sometimes though. He still feels fucking awful about Treviso and whenever he thinks about it, he yet again wracks his mind for a way he could have saved both Minrathous & Treviso. Bonding Activity: Lucanis gives Az cooking / baking lessons every other week {before Treviso fell, and then later once the wound healed between the two men a little}. Rook returns the favour by gifting Lucanis every book on Wyverns that he comes across. They also frequently talk about knives {the best ones they've used / heard of, good concealing methods, etc.} as the only 2 people in the team that use smaller daggers in their fighting styles. {Az is an Orb & Dagger Mage} Post Tearstone Island: They don't get to hang out that much anymore though when they do they often still discuss knives & cooking / baking. Rook is always asking about new recipes Lucanis knows & they'll even occasionally set up a day every few months where Rook will visit the Dellamorte Estate and Lucanis will teach him a new recipe while Rook drops off a new Wyvern book or some item or other to do with Wyverns.

Davrin:

Feelings: Rook see's him as the strongest person in the Veilguard. His bravery inspires Az and his quick thinking when it comes to dealing with the Darkspawn and the blight leave Rook wishing he had half the battle smarts Davrin had. Bonding Activity: Rook would spend hours asking Davrin questions about Darkspawn & the Blight. Originally: he wanted to know what they were up against, but over time he also found a strange interest in the topic in general.

They would also often talk about Griffons and Az would read anything he could find about Griffons {raising, rearing, training, history, etc} outloud to Davrin while Davrin was doing his whittling / carving.

After deciding to hand the Griffons over to Arlathan, they would talk about how excited they both were for not just the Griffons future but also to see what Davrin would do next. Post Tearstone Island: Rook was devastated about Davrin's death, he was so happy to see that his friend had gotten a second chance at life after Weisshaupt and he knew Davrin was so excited to forge a new path for himself and the Griffons.

Rook took some of the pieces that Davrin carved while they talked about Griffons, as a memento of the time they'd spent together. He frequently looks at them, and once a year on the anniversary of Tearstone Island, he will whittle another piece to add to the collection as if keeping Davrins legacy going in some small way.

He feels like he let Davrin down, making him sacrifice himself to make up for Az's failure to keep the team safe. In his darkest moments, Rook wishes he could trade places with his old friend so Davrin could get the future he deserved.

Taash:

Feelings: Little sibling!!! One of his closest friends in the Veilguard - Sees way too much of himself in Taash and it both endears him to them and makes him want to rip his hair out sometimes. Appreciates having another trans person & another Vashoth around, and is really grateful that he could help them figure that stuff out. Thinks they're cool as fuck & does appreciate it when Taash makes the effort to get along with Emmrich more. Bonding Activity: Talking about their family issues & how both their families died before they were able to make things right with them. Also talking about random crap {"What Ifs" particularly seem to be their favourite game together because they both say the wildest shit.} Taash really gets along with Rooks "Purple" side {which is basically his entire side tbh}. Post Tearstone Island: They still talk about their family stuff though it doesn't come up as often over time as they both heal more with each vent & just time in general.

Will have a monthly meet up where they will either go to the Hall of Valour to beat the shit out of some opponents for a bit OR will go do a monster workout at Taash' place. Either way it helps them both get their rage out in a healthier way {since Rook came out of the Fade Prison with A LOT more anger in him}.

They also make sure to go feed the birds on the monthly visit & Taash will tell Rook how things are going with trying to help integrate the Antaam into regular life. They also use this time to yap about their current hyperfixations honestly.

{Naturally, Taash helps Rook get a hold of a Dragons Tooth to propose to Emmrich with when the time comes!!!}

Emmrich:

Feelings: Loves that man more than he's loved anyone else. Truly sees him as his rock, his one and only, his Kadan / Amatus.

He loves the little family they've made together {Him, Emmrich & Manfred}. Really likes living down in the Necropolis, the travel between there and work can be a bit frustrating sometimes but luckily they still have access to the lighthouse eluvians so that definitely cuts down on travel.

He does wish that Emmrich would take some more time off work but that is rich coming from Az tbh. Bonding Activity: When they're not being insufferably gay, they'll trade stories of their respective adventures {Emmrich's dives into the deeper Necropolis & Rooks Shadow Dragon missions / shenanigans.}

They also frequently cuddle and read together, or one of them will read out loud as the other rests their head on the reader's leg. Post Tearstone Island: Many a dinner date, many a family outing in the Necropolis Gardens.

Emmrich will also sometimes pick Rook up from the Shadow Dragons sanctum when he finishes work early and Rook will do the same in return. Rooks favourite though, is still when they cuddle together and read. On special occasions Manfred also joins, sitting on the bed with them once he learns how to read.

In Groups:

Davrin, Lucanis. Az & Assan: Sitting in the dining room and trading stories of fights & missions gone surprisingly well or gloriously awry! With Assan begging for some snacks & pestering them all, knowing that if he can act cute at just the right moment 1 of them will be drunk enough to crumble & sneak him something.

Neve, Harding & Rook: Biweekly gossip sessions about people from the factions they visited or are / were helping that week.

All of them love to be nosy, & the messier the drama is the better it is. They'd never share this info outside of their little gossip circle though.

Taash, Davrin & Rook: Weekly workout sessions between the 3. These sessions also contain a lot of combat talk and conversations where they plan their next big fights out.

Sometimes, they'll even boast about fights they've been in to one another for funsies.

Bellara, Taash & Rook: The three of them really understand one another on how their brains work & honestly sometimes it helps to just randomly bundle into Bellara's room every week or so to just vent about how hard it was to get some tasks done or understand others.

They also often share neurodivergency tips & will usually end the conversation with one of them info dumping on the other 2 about whatever they're currently interested in. {For Taash, this has never failed to be Dragons lmao} Emmrich, Bellara Neve & Rook: All being mages they often like to discuss spells / how their magic manifests / weird magic stuff they've encountered lately / etc.

And although they'd never admit it, this usually does devolve into them chatting just shit about something or other.

Extra Secret Sad Addition:

Varric:

Feelings: Always thought Varric was the funniest person around. Really respected his opinions on things & always went to Varric for advice even before they got to the lighthouse.

Saw Varric as a somewhat father figure {albeit a shorter one than he would have expected}. Bonding Activity: Before the lighthouse, they would often talk about their respective adventures. Rook would also occasionally manage to persuade Varric to let him read an extremely revised draft of his yet to be published pieces. Post Tearstone Island: Rook was devastated, pissed & felt grief like he'd never felt. He had to mourn 2 parents before this but this... this was mourning a truly exceptional friend and father figure that he hadn't even known had been dead for the last several years {For context: I hc that Az experienced years of time in his Fade Prison even though it was only a few weeks in the real world}.

As stated in Harding's section: he & her make a yearly visit to The Hanged Man with the Inquisitor, Hawke, Isabella and the rest of the Kirkwall Crew to talk about and remember their friend.

He & Emmrich were also able to pull some strings and erect a grave in the Necropolis for Varric {not with his body, he got put to rest in the way he wanted to before this point obvs. But this is more symbolic and gives Az a way to visit often.}

Gas Stations as Liminal Spaces

I've had quite a few hyperfixations in my day - ATMs, laundry detergents, credit cards - so my current one pertaining to gas stations is fitting considering my affinity for liminal spaces and the dedication of this blog to them. Liminal spaces are transitory in nature, hence their portrayal in online circles through photos of carpeted hallways, illuminated stairwells, dark roads, and backrooms, among other transitional points.

Gas stations are posted online as well; images of their fuel pumps or neon signage photographed through a rainy car window communicate their liminality and the universal experiences they provide to all of society. Perhaps they are the ultimate specimen of a liminal space. The machines they are created for, automobiles and tractor trailers alike, themselves are tools for motion, vestibules that enable travel and shipment across long distances at high speeds. Cars and roads are liminal spaces, albeit in different formats, and gas stations serve as their lighthouses. Vehicles at filling stations, therefore, are in a sense liminal spaces within liminal spaces within liminal spaces.

The uniqueness of a gas station as a liminal space, however, is its intersection with the economics and aesthetics of capitalism. Gasoline (and diesel fuel) is a commodity, downstream from crude oil, merely differentiated by octane ratings. Some argue that minute distinctions between agents, detergents, and additives make some brands better than others. Indeed, fuels that are approved by the Top Tier program, sponsored by automakers, have been shown to improve engine cleanliness and performance, but this classification does not prefer specific refiners over others; it is simply a standard. To a consumer, Top Tier fuels are themselves still interchangeable commodities within the wider gasoline commodity market.

The Economics of Gas Stations

The market that gas stations serve is characterized by inelastic demand, with customers who reckon with prices that fluctuate day in and day out. This is not to say that consumer behavior does not change with fuel prices. It has been observed that as prices rise, consumers are more eager to find the cheapest gas, but when prices fall, drivers are less selective with where they pump and are just happy to fill up at a lower price than last week. In response, gas stations lower their prices at a slower rate than when increasing prices, allowing for higher profit margins when wholesale prices fall. This has been dubbed the "rockets and feathers" phenomenon.

When portrayed as liminal spaces, gas stations are most often depicted at night, places of solitude where one may also enter the adjacent convenience store and encounter a fellow individual who isn't asleep, the modern day lightkeeper. The mart that resides at the backcourt of a gas station is known to sell goods at higher prices than a supermarket, simultaneously taking advantage of a captive customer, convenient location, and making up for the inefficiencies of a smaller operation. It may come as no surprise, then, that gas stations barely make any money from fuel sales and earn their bulk through C-store sales. This is a gripe I have with our economic system. Business is gamified, and in many cases the trade of certain goods and services, called loss leaders, is not an independent operation and is subsidized by the success of another division of a business, a strategy inherently more feasible for larger companies that have greater scale to execute it.

Nevertheless, most gas station owners, whether they have just one or hundreds of sites, find this method fruitful. Even though most gas stations in the US sell one of a handful of national brands, they operate on a branded reseller, or dealer, model, with oil companies themselves generally not taking part in the operations of stations that sell their fuels. The giants do still often have the most leverage and margin in the business, with the ability to set the wholesale price for the distributor, which sells at a markup to the station owner, which in turn will normally make the least profit in the chain when selling to the end customer at the pump. This kind of horizontal integration that involves many parties lacks the synergies and efficiencies of vertical integration that are so applauded by capitalists, but ends up being the most profitable for firms like ExxonMobil, who only extract and refine oil, and on the other end of the chain merely license their recognizable brands to the resellers through purchasing agreements. Furthermore, in recent years, independent dealers have sold their businesses to larger branded resellers, in many cases the ones from whom they had been buying their fuel.

A Word on ExxonMobil's Branding Potential

The largest publicly traded oil company in the world is Exxon Mobil Corporation. It is a direct descendent of the Rockefeller monopoly, Standard Oil, which was broken up in 1911 into 34 companies, the largest of which was Jersey Standard, which became Exxon in 1973. This title was generated by a computer as the most appealing replacement name to be used nationwide to unify the Humble, Enco, and Esso brands, decades before AI was spoken of. The latter brand is still used outside of the United States for marketing, arising from the phonetic pronunciation of the initials of Standard Oil. In 1999, Exxon and Mobil merged, and the combined company to this day markets under separate brands. Exxon is more narrowly used, to brand fuel in the United States, while Mobil has remained a motor oil and industrial lubricant brand, as well as a fuel brand in multiple countries.

Mobil originated in 1866 as the Vacuum Oil Company, which first used the current brand name for Mobiloil, and later Mobilgas and Mobilubricant products, with the prefix simply short for "automobile". Over time, Mobil became the corporation's primary identity, with its official name change to Mobil Oil Corporation taking place in 1966. Its updated wordmark with a signature red O was designed by the agency Chermayeff & Geismar, and the company's image for service stations was conceived by architect Eliot Noyes. New gas stations featured distinctive circular canopies over the pumps, and the company's recognizable pegasus logo was prominently on display for motorists.

I take issue with the deyassification of the brand's image over time. As costs were cut and uniformity took over, rectangular canopies were constructed in place of the special ones designed by Noyes that resembled large mushrooms. The pegasus remained a prominent brand icon, but the Mobil wordmark took precedence, which I personally believe to be an error in judgement. This disregard for the pegasus paved the way for its complete erasure in 2016 with the introduction of ExxonMobil's "Synergy" brand for its fuel. The mythical creature is now much smaller and appears only at the top right corner of pumps at Mobil gas stations, if at all.

Even into the 90s and the 21st century the Pegasus had its place in Mobil's marketing. In 1997, the company introduced its Speedpass keytag, which was revolutionary for its time and used RFID technology, akin to mobile payments today, to allow drivers to get gas without entering the store or swiping a card. When a Speedpass would be successfully processed, the pegasus on the gas pump would light up red.

When Exxon and Mobil merged in 1999, the former adopted the payment method too, with Exxon's less iconic tiger in place of the pegasus.

The program was discontinued in 2019 in favor of ExxonMobil's app, which is more secure since it processes payments through the internet rather than at the pump.

What Shell has done with its brand identity is what Mobil should've done for itself. The European company's logo was designed in 1969 by Raymond Loewy, and is a worth contender for the "And Yet a Trace of the True Self Exists in the False Self" meme. In recent years, Shell went all in on its graphic, while Mobil's pegasus flew away. I choose to believe that the company chose to rebrand its stations in order to prevent the malfunction in the above image from happening.

ExxonMobil should have also discontinued the use of the less storied Exxon brand altogether, and simplifying its consumer-facing identity to just the global Mobil mark. Whatever, neither of the names are actual words. As a bonus, here is a Google map I put together of all 62 gas stations in Springfield, MA. This is my idea of fun. Thanks for reading to the end!

I have a truly absurd number of them, but I’m currently hyperfixated on the chronicle I’m running so that’s who you get for now.

Putting this under a read more because it got very long. If you are one of my players I love you and also this post is not for you.

The main plot is based around the fact that Pandora, the Prince’s wife (and grandsire of one of the pcs), has gone missing, and said Prince (Ophelia) ropes the pcs into helping to find her.

I have done a lot of thinking about them because they are so integral to the plot and. oh man do I feel normal emotions about the two of them.

They were lovers in life, and when Pandora got Embraced and disappeared Ophelia threw herself into researching what happened so hard that she caught the attention of a Tremere and got herself Embraced as well. She then spent over two centuries searching for Pandora, only to find her blood bound to the former Prince of the city, so she worked her way onto his court and slowly destroyed his reputation until he was forced to leave his position and she took it instead. All to free her wife, who had at that point completely forgotten almost everything about her life, including her own name. She still can’t manage to remember it, no matter how many times she’s told what it was (the combination of the way being a malkavian manifests in her and also severe trauma is real rough), so she just decided to pick out a new one instead, and took Ophelia’s last name for gay people reasons.

Needless to say, Ophelia is NOT coping well with her wife disappearing again. She keeps it together in front of the pcs and the rest of the Camarilla but. man is she doing bad.

Aside from them, there’s also several other guys I’m really normal about, including:

Dorothy, a Brujah who was turned in her late nineties and is a stereotypical sweet old lady most of the time, but is also the Sheriff for a reason. She’s absolutely terrifying when she wants to be, and she has the dots in potence and celerity to back it up.

Cassie, the Lasombra Primogen who all of my players instantly fell in love with because it has the energy of a puppy who really wants to be your friend but is also scared of everything all the time. It’s really cute and innocent seeming, which helps distract everyone from the fact that it spent most of its time as a vampire in the Sabbat and has definitely brutally murdered people. How much of that innocence and fear is faked remains to be seen.

Zera, who used to be a Ventrue and thought she was a cis man, until a Hecata attempted to diablerize her, failed, and got her body taken over by her victim. Zera very quickly realized that she 1. is a trans woman, and 2. would much rather hang out with ghosts and books than spend all her time in court. Now she’s just chilling in a creepy, haunted lighthouse.

‘Father’ Lucita, who dresses and acts like a priest and genuinely believes in god without question, but has also fleshcrafted herself to look like a devil for reasons too complicated to get into here. She believes all vampires are inherently evil and damned, including herself, and leads a group of hunters who will be sent after the coterie. She’s also a Baali. Just to make things even more complicated.

(The quotes around father are not because she’s a woman. they are because she has long since been excommunicated from the catholic church.)

There’s also Elodea, Ophelia and Pandora’s qpp who is one of exactly two people who know about their history and how badly Ophelia is doing (the other is Dorothy). Her brother is the Anarch Baron, who absolutely hates her guts and wants her dead, but she never shows any indication that she cares about him at all. How true that is is up for debate.

Pandora has three childer as well, who are all recruited to help find her, though how much they actually want to do that varies. Belated Intro Post

Hi, I'm ANamelessFool and I do lots of seemingly unrelated things, but that is because I am an air sign. I will be 36 on February 9.

My interests boil down to the History of Things. I like getting lost in time periods (hence the current 70s hyperfixation). I'm a Roleplayer and a Medieval Reenactor. When I ran out of costumes and little things to make for myself I picked up the BJD hobby and now make lil guys like @resin-popia

I love films and went to film school. I love talking about films to literally anyone. I like action, period pieces and supernatural horror. I really enjoy when supernatural horror adds to the human drama like in The Thing or The Lighthouse or Hereditary. Something about Interlopers wandering into an alternate dimension with its own horrific unrelated logic is fascinating.

I have always liked the occult, and I study occult topics like tarot, automatic writing, meditation. I will also talk to you forever about all that.

So yeah all my writing relates to all that.

I'm writing a huge interrelated AU because that's just how my brain works. Most of my Ghost fics exist there unless it's a pseud.

So historical art, pageantry, supernatural horror, costume design, family drama, music all boils down to why Ghost grabbed me by the fucking throat in 2022. I'm sad I didn't know about them sooner.

I don't do fic or HC requests because most of the time I can't get into writing mode on demand. (Sometimes I feel up for it.) Anyways, here's roughs of Captain Ironside and Young Jack! (As always, ramble below the cut!)

Like I said, these are rough designs for them! Ryan's only on lvl like, 36, and Young Jack is literally an npc I hyperfixated on because his plot is ridiculous. Ryan (Silent Ryan Ironside) is on the right, Young Jack on the left 👍

So, lore ramble as I warned about:

Ryan has the Grizzleheim origin, and her parents were killed in a Mutiny. She's a Swashbuckler, and her First mate is consistently Subodai (horse Warrior). Ryan became a Mute after her parents were killed, and communicates with her crew solely through a complex system of tapping patterns, or simple hand signals. She's slow to trust, and is very loose with dropping people at the first sign of disloyalty, but she picks up her crew like they're each a stray sopping wet kitten. She's still a teen, so when they all joined her, they basically pulled "It takes a village to raise a kid" and the entire Crew works to boost her up as well as keep her safe.

Young Jack recap (w/o bias I hope) I'd that he's the nephew of a guy on the docks of Flotsam who went missing. You find him near the broken lighthouse, he's cursed, you hunt down the dude who made the curse and kill him. Give the head to Young Jack to keep him from getting zombified. Young Jack swears off pirating, and that's the last time he's seen.

Personal Explanation for the art above:

Ryan took the quest would really planning to follow through. She stumbled across Young Jack's trail by chance and found him injured and surrounded by undead. His old crew. She sympathized, and helped him back to his uncle, but Old Scratch and everyone else of Flotsam agreed that the boy was doomed to die of his curse by sundown. Only way was to kill this old immortal famous pirate, so Ryan did just that. She felt like she couldn't just stand down, and she killed the guy and presented it to Young Jack just before sundown.

Jack swore off pirating and retreated with his uncle back home, but I like to think Ryan kept in contact. Jack started work in the tavern, and Ryan made Flotsam her crew's go-to stop just to check in on Jack. They were friends, Ryan's first real friend, and got along swimmingly. Ryan taught him the codes and translations for her taps, and they bonded. (Currently they're still courting. Jack thinks she's just the coolest girl he's ever met, and she thinks Jack is reckless, but sweet.)

One time, I like to think just after Monquista, Ryan went to the tavern, only to get news that Jack had been kidnapped, by pirates, then the Armada. Ryan has a paralyzing fear of the Armada, but snuck away from her crew. She was trading her surrender for Jack's safe return. Ryan managed to send Jack back safe, giving herself up to Deacon in the process.

Jack, in my headcanon, has a giant slash scar across his face because of this incident. When he got back and tried to tell Ryan's crew what had happened, Subodai was furious. Subodai is basically Ryan's mentor and adoptive father, so when he heard what had happened his was in such great distress he didn't even think. He drew his sword and slashed Jack across the face without a second thought, before the crew could stop him.

Everyone ended up bannmding together to vet Ryan back in one piece, but that incident is what I think drove Jack to join Ryan's crew. If he remained away from her, he'd only be a dangerous outlier for enemies to use against her. Staying close let both of them be safer, and happier, despite how he swore off pirating not long ago.

Obviously Jack doesn't fight, he's not an npc I can pick up and take with me, so I like to think he's just kinda the housewife here. He keeps the ship and crew in order when Ryan's going onto land for extended periods of time. He also probably keeps track of Ryan's debts, favors owed, and things of that nature. Besides that though, they're just really close, and it's good that Ryan bonded with someone outside her crew for once, even if he ended up in the Crew in the end.

You guys really liked the "Ecclectic Halloween" post I did a while ago, so I want to go for another round!!

For those who didn't see the previous post - music is my biggest hyperfixation, and I love making thematic playlists and play with them by adding little rules and such. My "Ecclectic Halloween" playlist currently has over 150 tracks, and all of them are there according to the following little rules I've stablished:

The song MUST include anything supernatural, spooky, bizarre, "murder/serial killer", classic creature and so on - if it's instrumental, which is the case of many tracks in this list, it has to have all of these but in VibesTM

The song can be of ANY genre; is it metal? Prog? Disco? Electronic? Soundtrack? COOL, ALL ARE WELCOME!

I'm still including less widely known / "cliche Halloween songs", and this time I decided to feature songs that are soundtracks (from movies, games, animes, books even!); most of them are instrumental, or feature a heavy use of choir, and/or vocals that are prevalent but doesn't really mean anything (bear with me, you'll see what I mean, lol)

LET'S GET STARTED, part deux!!

1- Only Murders In The Building - Creatures of the Night

Starting off with this banger from the latest season of "Only Murders in the Building"! The original context is that Oliver Putnam, one of the main characters who's a theater producer/director, decides to put on a musical play as one of the main subplots of this season; the show actually presented a couple of full, real songs, and they are all REALLY Broadway-like, campy, and epic (fucking Meryl Streep sings two of them???? It's REALLY good!). The musical's plot is that this woman was murdered in a mysterious lighthouse, and a private Investigator and a Constable comes in to investigate it. The main suspects are the Nanny and... the baby triplets of the deceased woman??? Lol This song is SUPER fun, weird and extra, with that little touch of mystery - it's the "opening act" of the show, and it's the Investigator arriving at the lighthouse, singing with the whole ensemble cast, it's SO cool! I'm including here the actual scene where they perform it, so you can see it! (Spoilers for the last episode of s3, I guess?)

In this eerie old lighthousе thrashed by the tide Live triplets whose mother suspiciously died And suspects uncanny, a constable, a nanny Do they all have secrets to hide?

2- Genshin Impact - Die Mittsommernacht-Fantasie

This one is VERY "mischievous trick or treat" vibes! Very, very fun and colorful, with that little touch of mystery, too! This was definitely one of the best battle themes in Genshin Impact, and it was featured exclusively in a time-limited event last year?? Such a tragedy this good of a song was used only then!

The domain this song appears is themed after the character Amy "Fischl", who roleplays all the time as "Fischl, the Prinzessin der Verteilung"; the domain itself was a huge castle, with big fairytale vibes going on. Fischl is a very dramatic, mischievous character, and this theme really reflects that, in the most fun way! The song has INTENSE baroque influences with the harpsichord as main instrument, and even features a classic/ spanish guitar!

3- Cuphead, The Delicious Last Course - The Finishing Touch

To those unfamiliar, Cuphead is a game that mimics the entire aesthetics, artstyle and music from 1920's cartoons. It's honestly one of the best ideas I've seen, and this one is a song from the DLC released a while ago. It's very spooky, and of course in that 20s cartoon sort of way.

I personally love the super eerie atmosphere, the flute, piano and the strings combo creating all the tension!

4- Young Sherlock Holmes - The Ceremony / Waxing of Elizabeth ("Rametep Theme")

These are technically two songs, but some good soul mashed them together into one cohesive piece, because they both really, REALLY slap hard with the dramatic chorus and Carmina Burana-esque energy! This was featured in the movie "Young Sherlock Holmes", in a scene where a crazy-ass cult is having their gathering, and preparing to mummify this girl.

I have to say the soundtrack is actually better than the scene itself, lol. It has a really impressive crescendo and use of orchestral metals, I have goosebumps every time I listen to it, hnnng <3

5- Ori and the Will of the Wisps - Mora, the Spider

Easily one of the most intense boss fights I've ever played - and the theme really reflects that fear and tension. Mora is a giant spider hidden in the deep, buried shadows of the forest that you, as Ori (a light/forest spirit) has to defeat. It really is a "dark vs light" sort of fight, and the this theme really goes fucking hard. It also has strong horror music elements used in movies of the genre - like the violin pizzicato at the beginning, and its use throughout the piece, giving that "classic horror" feeling to it.

Note how when the choir kicks in around the minute 2:15 - they are chanting "MO-RA! MO-RA!" in such a terrifying way! And then, around 4:50, it really shows how Ori's determination and hope prevails, when their leitmotif starts playing!

6- Yuki Kajiura - Ship of Fools

If you follow me for a while, you know already that Yuki is literally one of my all-time favorite composers ever, so OF COURSE I had to include her here!! She is an OST composer for animes and games, and this was the first song of her I've ever heard - it plays on the very first scene of the "Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles" anime. Yuki is well-known for her dreamy, haunting style and this piece is a huge example of it!

She mixes in electronic, rock/metal, classic and folk genres, and layered vocals (mostly done by singers hired for her projects). This one is also an example of her using the "kajiurago", or "kajiura language" - it doesn't mean anything, it's just vocalizing that sounds like words. They are one of her trademarks, and one of her elements that really gives the etheral, haunting atmosphere in her works!

This song really goes hard into the "mysterious, dangerous witch" territory, and I fucking love it! <3

7- Yuki Kajiura - The Main Theme of Petit Cossette

Another one from my favorite girl - this one is soundtrack to a very obscure anime called "Le Portrait de Petit Cossette" - it's essentially the story of a girl's ghost (Cossette) trapped in an artifact (I think it's a goblet?? It's been over 15 years since I saw it, lol), and this guy who falls in love with her. It's a very weird, dark and atmospheric animation.

This one track here really translates that energy, and I honestly HIGHLY recommend the rest of this OST - it's VERY VERY GOOD, and mostly all tracks have that dark, eerie, gothic vibe too.

Here we can see once more the use of "kajiurago", and another trait of Yuki's work that I fucking love - the intricate solos!! In this case, a violin solo, which is also very prevalent in most of her work.

8- Mary Fahl - Exiles (The Wolves of Midwinter)

Another Anne Rice-inspired! "Exiles" was composed by Mary Fahl as an actual official song for the audiobook version of "The Wolves of Midwinter". I don't know about the book's plot because I haven't read it, but this song is SO atmospheric, and it's very werewolf-y. I personally LOVE Mary's deep voice, and how I can almost see the wolves running in the wintery forest.

9- Karliene - Become the Beast

Technically, the only one of the playlist that isn't a soundtrack - not offcially, anyway, hehe. This is a song that Karliene wrote inspired by Hannibal, the tv show; I haven't seen Hannibal, but I'm OBSESSED about this one, because yeah, it can be about Hannibal, but I like how she's a bit vague about it, so it can also be about werewolves, or any other dark supernatural creature, like vampires.

Her voice is incredible, and I love how "minimalistic" this song is, featuring pretty much only a violin, piano and cello as insstruments. The pizzicato sound comes in again to give that unsettling, classic horror vibe, at the same time her layered vocals + the piano and cello really softens the whole thing, which in my opinion, makes the song so eerie and menacing - even more with the lyrics!

So look in the mirror and tell me, who do you see? Is it still you? Or is it me? Become the beast, we don't have to hide Do I terrify you or do you feel alive? Do you feel the hunger? Does it howl inside? Does it terrify you? Or do you feel alive?

10- Wolfwalkers - Howls the Wolf (Moll's Song - Wolf Run Free)

And closing the "werewolf trilogy" here at the end of the playlist with another favorite of mine - and ending with wholesome vibes! This is a song that plays in the credits of the animated movie "Wolfwalkers" - IF YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THAT MOVIE YET, AND YOU LOVE ANIMATION, YOU MUST. LIKE FOR REAL. ITS SO GOOD. And the entire soundtrack, written by Kíla and Bruno Coulais, fucking slaps - it's mostly all traditional folk Irish music and instruments, and so full of life!

Wolfwalkers here are people who turn into wolves when they fall asleep - their sleeping body remains behind, as their soul takes a tangible form of a wolf. It's pretty rad!!

And this song, it's Moll, the wolfwalker mother, probably singing this "lullaby" to her daughter, the wolfwalker Mébh (and one of the main protagonists, the red haired little girl in the art above!).

Maria Doyle Kennedy is the one voicing Moll and singing this song, she has such a pretty, soothing voice! I love this song so much, and with the context of the movie, it makes me teary-eyed almost every time I listen to it kjdfhkjdf, ahhhh <3

An idea I'm excited to work on My big project I'm chipping away at is a dimension travel AU that features 1990s Broadway legend Ed falling in love with 1930s musical star Stede Bonnet in a kind of black and white film set purgatory known as the Afterlight. It's a little bit The Giver, a little bit Pleasantville, a little bit Barbie (2023), a little bit internal family systems therapy LOL, and it's letting my blend my current hyperfixation of OFMD with my very first hyperfixation of old Astaire/Rogers musicals. It's by far the most complex thing I've ever written and it's moving along more slowly than I'd like because of that, but I'm so excited about it. It's such a fun concept to explore and there are going to be some Very Big Emotions

Favorite fic to re-read Okay actually I very rarely re-read my own fic because I am always certain I will hate everything and find a million things I want to change. BUT I will say I recently re-read The Merry Strays of Lighthouse Sanctuary because I'm having it bound into a book and I wanted to make sure there were no embarrassing typos before that happened, and honestly? I love it. It's so good. I was nervous it wouldn't hold up because it had been my ambitious work to date and I wrote it after a long hiatus from writing but it's gorgeous and funny and heartwarming and the ending made me cry. I feel like it captured my essence as a person, as weird as that sounds. And even though there are some things I might have adjusted had I written it after S2, it still very much feels like a love letter to OFMD.

Favorite character to write other than Ed or Stede Ohhhh you know what, I actually haven't written much from anyone else's POV! But I did write a Roach POV for Roach vs. Rabbit and it was SO much fun. He's so delightfully unhinged, anything goes. (And actually I do have a short Roach POV in a fic I'm posting for AUgust, so apparently I really do have a type and it's Roach.)

I'm currently very much all in on sfth and everything else has been pushed to the side a bit for the hyperfixation, but Doctor Who, Dan and Phil, Stranger Things, Magnus Archives/Protocol, and Dimension 20 are some of my neglected children. And I would say I'm a fan of Discworld and PTerry but I wouldn't say I'm in the fandom if that makes sense?

I was going to make a 'making me pick my favourite child joke' for 3, but now you actually are. Big fan of Locomotion, Old Lady Margarey and Amanda, but I think my actual favourite might be Mario the Sheep. I don't know if they're my favourite couple but the first one I thought of was the tailor and his meth-wife

I don't super associate songs with characters or anything, but for the boys, the fandom and sfth in general Feel Bad by A Story Told

i really ought to post some of the lighthouse art i’ve done. Also, i should draw more lighthouse art in general

i woke up at midnight and decided to hyperfixate on my lighthouse au, specifically to draw lighthouse!jay like 5 hours later. ok brain. you do that

despite how chill he looks in this drawing, lighthouse au can better be described as “jay going through it: the au”, at least as far as the lore i have for it currently goes

speaking of that, time to scream somewhat incoherently about lighthouse au for those who want to know what all this is about:

so lighthouse au is somewhat a mix of skybound, seabound, the lighthouse scene from crystallized [hence the name], and me going absolutely hog wild with animal hybrids as i tend to do if left unsupervised. in it, jay’s an electric eel as shown, kai and nya are lions, cole’s a bear, zane’s a falcon [and still a robot], and lloyd is a dragon for lore reasons yet to be considered

the most important detail about lighthouse is that nya becomes the sea long before it even starts. she’s hecking gone man. at some point after, jay has a huge falling-out with the team regarding all that and ends up leaving the others and moving to the lighthouse, where he meets echo, also a falcon-hybrid robot cause the canon lore remains. echo mans the lighthouse and when jay showed up he was basically just like “oh! a roommate :)”. he takes care of him while he’s there

by the time the lighthouse au actually begins, it’s years after the whole nya situation. the rest of the gang are still ninja, it’s just jay who stopped. he’s pretty chill staying at the lighthouse, actually. well lookie who shows up to make his life not-so-chill. everyone’s favorite dude, nadakhan [derogatory]! still a pirate here, he heard rumors of some funky ocean lady [nya] and traveled to where it was said she showed up the most, which was the lighthouse. and well, who does he find there? unfortunately jay, who is thoroughly interrogated then captured once it is made very clearly obvious he knows exactly who this ocean lady is

echo, left behind after staying hidden, panics and sends a distress signal, which takes a bit to get places cause travel time and all that [it’s actually a falcon of his own! thank you yasa for letting me yoink that idea]. and guess who arrives to save the day? yeah it’s. it’s the gang. there they are. despite everything, they still very much care for jay and do not want to see him kidnapped by whoever this loser is. unfortunately for them, jay does not feel the same way, and is very displeased with their presence. regardless, they retrieve him-

and this is actually where my brain stopped its midnight yodeling, so the lore ends here. i don’t know where we go from here. what i do know is jay is eventually forced to rejoin the ninja due to shenanigans and he is very Not Having A Good Time about it
