People give Valka a lot of shit which makes me sad bc her flaws are what make her interesting, and I LOVE thinking about her character.

Like, Have we considered how she had Hiccup at 20 and was married before that? Have we considered that, though she was in love with Stoick, marrying the Chief (or soon-to-be-chief) is a lot of responsibility? Have we considered how young 20 is and Hiccup takes after her in so many ways, not feeling ready for responsibility or wanting to settle down could be one of them? Have we considered she deliberately didn't come back because she maybe felt she wasn't ready to be a mother? Have we considered she loves Hiccup and Stoick so dearly but needed to live her own life? Have we considered how bittersweet the reunion really was because she realized she missed her chance to actually be a mother and how much the guilt of not coming back must've weighed on her?

Pisses me off that people insist on calling Drifter a rat (slur) when 'viper' is literally right there. Like, if you want an animal-based insult that amounts to someone being cunning and sneaky and untrustworthy despite that not fitting the actual animal at all, then that's an alternative that's far more generalized. Plus there's the added bonuses of:

1.) It's literally his sigil. Gambit is snake-themed. There's snake stuff all over it, even moreso than hunter stuff (despite our sigils literally having snakes). Like, hello

2.) Vipers are typically very big on the whole 'don't be seen, if seen, bluff about how big and scary and mean you are, then bite as a last resort (or unless stepped on, in which case bite first)'. That's Drifter. Drifter's whole shtick was that his 'I'm a bad guy I'm gonna do illegal shit with you ooohhh watch out I'm the Drifter' thing was all an act to keep people at bay bc he's actually a sweet, caring fellow who's scared of being hurt. Most vipers are typically fairly chill, inquisitive snakes whose awful bite is only given after a hell of a lot of bark. It fits

3.) Jumping off the previous point, vipers give live birth and are one of the snakes with the most complex parental care and social structures that we currently know of- rattlesnakes recognize friends and blood family, gather together in communal denning sites, babysit their relative's neonates, and form (what seems to be) some mode of either mutual tolerance or friendship with garter snakes (another communally denning species). They're an animal with a scary look and reputation that are actually quite gentle and fearful despite their dangerous bite. Again, that's Drifter-coded

You really don't need to use a slur to begin with tbh but like, if you really need affectionate insults for funny dialogue or w/ever, there's alternatives out there that work just as well without the racism. You don't need some long-winded, contrived excuse

She politically inept, her only contribution to the war effort was to cry in bathtubs, and she’s proven to be an untrustworthy traitor. Why in gods name would Rhaenyra marry her? In hindsight, alicent is technically politically inept, yes, she may have had the Hand of the King as her father but would you really believe Otto's ass to be able to teach his daughter the ways of politics? I get that she may have learned to be adept at it by the time she married Viserys but overall it's not like she suddenly knows how to operate the kingdom, alicent is not intelligent at all...not in the series anyways, if anything, rhaenyra is the most inept of them all including her siblings, she was practically groomed at a young age to be able to operate a kingdom, and since she is basically a princess, she has access to a higher education, education that aren't granted to girls and boys at that time, this is also my gripe with rhaen*cent shippers is that rhaenyra is technically the dumb one, the stupid one, i remember an edit caption where they say that rhaenyra can't tell from her left or right and it just really annoys me because then they'll praise alicent as if majority of what was going on in the series wasn't because of her, as if choosing to believe that viserys chose aegon on his deathbed after vehemently and steadfast in defending rhaenyra and her sons' claim, also mind you, she literally set Mysaria's home or whatever it is on fire, so not only did she kill the women there but also the children, she was also very presumptuous in thinking that the exception of women-no-rule doesn't apply to her, knowing damn well how that would look for a faction that actively fights against the claim of a woman, but sureeeee alicent is the smart, she's the mastermind, she's the victim. SHE IS NOT.

By no means is she even a perfect little victim but these fuckass writers and producers wants us to think oh, poor alicent, she can't do shit at all, she can't think for herself, she doesn't know what she wants, all the while outwardly doing the things she actually wants (wearing green as a call to war, undermining and humiliating rhaenyra and her sons, forcing rhaenyra to come to her chambers to see her baby after she had just given birth, allowing herself to spread hatred to her children, allowing herself to harm rhaenyra and get no repercussions at all) :/, it's as if rhaenyra herself isn't just as tortured when she spent all her life being cast aside by her father and now suddenly thrust into a position where she knows she will be targeted, many will demand her things that they don't demand if a man sits on the throne, like the message isn't received and it's a bad message because it's supposed to say that oh, targaryens or the royal family, they're basically the exception since they're the ones who makes shit happens, rhaenyra is practically safe from misogyny when that isn't the point, the point of F&B is that no matter what class you're in, whether you're highborn or not, whether you're capable or not, you will be subjected to being underestimated and undermined because you're a woman. There is not a single position in this life where you are safe and that is because you are a woman and you live in a man's world. it doesn't matter if you were chosen, you are a woman.
