Min Yoongi. A piano session, just quiet acceptance of loving one another ft. confusing figures of speech

a.k.a. the damned draft from a looooong time ago but my lazy ass can’t figure out how to to finish it,,,,,, this is for @lilyjhs, who i sent a draft of this to last may and when i saw her reply, i chickened out

Like how most stories start, they begin with the cold.

She can sense it in the tremble of Yoongi’s hands, hesitating to do what is ought. In his mind, it’s only expected, having discovered his newfound fear of playing the piano when their sessions became shorter. That’s when he proclaimed himself selfish for wasting the time of a young girl who has so much hope for the world.

It is she who has wrongly put her faith in him, a passing ghost. He shouldn’t anticipate their now shorter lessons of existence - what could he possibly teach her? That though their dreams are similar, his best advice is to stop her pursuit of it, only because her soul is the cost of fragile success? That in the same way she’s pushing him to his ruin, he too is pushing her to taste doubt and dispassion?

As soon as his song ends, he’ll leave. His profession requires staying away from stray ends, the ones that are tempting to pull, so much that he finds himself unraveled and windblown in the end. As she could remain as his muse, she has a stronger power over his reason.

How simple it is to give in, to have his dreams rotten at her call. How simple it is to cease being reduced to a wraith, but it is more difficult now that they’d shared an important piece of history among one another. How simple it was to surrender to her lips.

The cold takes this as an opportunity to remind them of their place in the world. Though the memory wants them to remember the opposite, she believes in his warmth, while he refuses to believe he was anything other than numb.      

“There wasn’t a taste of revolution in your kiss.” There is no accusation in her tone.

Her voice is no longer small and troubled, it drips of awakening - welcoming the fact that she feels no uneasy blaze to trail up her spine whenever she’s in his cold presence. Unlike before, the dread is replaced with calm embers softly tugging at her heart, urging her to take the first step of change.

“Hmmm.” Yoongi’s alternative way of a compromise, for he can’t change, not when his hands are tied. 

This couldn’t be solved with reassurance or a sharing of warmth. With her, he resorts to humming, rattling bones and stars along the way. Sometimes it is all he has to say.

He owes no explanation for the hands that have a vice-like grip of the microphone, and for the space triumph reserves for him, but he’s truly never satisfied of. 

Every word to escape his lips aren’t simply stumbling out. As a brutal dialect to grace the air, they are carefully chosen to disengage. His restless desire to have the last word is satiated through the fingers that wounded their way across streaks of ivory and black. It’s a restless pursuit that costed him his soul, much like his dream. 

So it takes him a while to speak again, his heart apparent through the bridge. After pouring everything in the verses, the chorus echoes and imprints the emotion, and the bridge receives the weight of it all. He has to make it count.

Only the piano keys can tell that Yoongi enjoys wearing the skin of a savior with each session they have. There is a story of symphony that only he can tell with ease. The price of it, however, is to be in between. And yet, he gladly obliges.

In each passing note, he builds himself only to return with a crumbling home again and again. A melody takes its own form, walking over the skeletons of what once was a framework of revolution. It wasn’t a hasty climb towards the apex, or a half-hearted wandering. He crawled his way into the dream he currently lives out, shedding blood, sweat and tears in the process. He can take damnation.

Despite the pure frustration permeating the heavenly melody, the song is a dangerous kind of calm.

His hand movements are of a demon’s, greedily roaming wherever it wished to consume. The music sheets shows no signs of being used, aware of his demand for more notes to lose themselves. Everything is happening until it couldn’t be read anymore, until the piano spoke in a language that even he couldn’t understand.

All that she can do is watch. She makes sure to command her senses to be patient - a song of alleviation is in the making. Yoongi needs this, to drain the bad and thirst for the good. He must know that healing isn’t limited to daydreams. She hopes again, foolishly, that sitting next to him would merit the thought that he deserves to be loved.

Yoongi is thankful for her being a witness.

One dissonant chord comes, then an abrupt stop. The song has ended. They’re both ready, but frightened all the same. The world musters a sigh with the shortest silence, non-violent with the comfort it offers.

He doesn’t plan on leaving.

Yoongi places his fingers on his lap for a moment, just to sift through the chaos. With a small thunk, the piano lid is gently closed.

He turns to her, welcoming the warmth. He outstretches his hand.

“I wasn’t asking for war.”

Calm acceptance is the most a wraith could give, and perhaps the song is enough of a response.

He wouldn’t mind sharing another piece of history with her.
