who is Amelie?

ask my character about anyone in their life!

It's a bit difficult to condense much more than he'd said before, even moreso why he feels weird about it.

"Amelie was Isolde's tomboyish little sister. Five years her junior and youngest sibling of the House of Thurayya-- Before their father remarried, at least. Messy situation. He wasn't welcome at either sister's wedding."

"The eldest son was set to inherit his mother's house, but enlisted and died in a patriotic war when both sisters were still young. When their mother died during a pandemic and Isolde was studying at the institution she'd eventually come to teach, their father had the noble house moved under himself and disinherited his daughters."

"She had tried to join her sister at the Imperial Arcanists' University, but that came to an end when a tenured professor... assaulted her. Isolde refused to take Amelie's side in order to protect her new and unfortunately necessary livelihood. You can imagine the bad blood."

"I met Amelie after she'd joined the military and was working in logistics, primarily supply and requisition. We were drinking buddies while I attended the military academy and even beyond that when I was given my own command... I'd practice making longer rift jumps after setting up camp during marches and drop by some nights, either for conversation or just to ask for some oddball equipment we couldn't really wait a week on."

"Things first soured between us on a winter night, huddled by the hearth. We'd had a couple drinks, shared a quilt and some deep kisses, and she reacted very poorly to heavy petting. Amelie was sex-repulsed, she explained that and it was totally fine."

"The problem was in the months afterwards, she knew I was interested and I didn't really understand the teasing. I think maybe it felt like she was trying to scare me off instead of turning me down, and I tried not to be fussy about it because I just wanted to have my friend back."

"Eventually, I had to find a date to the Officers' Ball. Invited Amelie sort of casually with 'this doesn't have to mean anything, I know there are some people on the guest list you'd like to meet' and she said yes. Showed up looking gorgeous, in this elegant green dress, hanging off my arm, even helping me collect contacts."

"Our dance was wonderful, but she asked if I wanted to find somewhere private after and it felt like more teasing and-- I just blew up. I said hurtful things, like how I could find anyone who wanted me and not play these stupid games. I stormed out."

"We didn't keep in touch. She caught wind about me getting hurt after the Impure Marquess was freed from the roots of those elves' stupid fucking Star Tree and mended things with her big sister to have someone make sure I was okay. Isolde married me and life moved on."

"After Nadja was born, we moved to the countryside following the princess ascending to the throne as the new empress. Amelie invites us to her wedding, I'm happy for her in the moment, and it felt like a betrayal when I came home to my three year old daughter barely surviving a housefire. It was never rational to blame Amelie for that, and I dealt with feeling inadequate at that moment very poorly."

"Fast-forward a year, her marriage fell apart. Coincidentally, we think Isolde was bitten by a tick and she delivered our stillborn son at 35 weeks. We were very lucky to have Amelie come help while we grieved, and Nadja adored her so much she never went home."

"Amelie was a fantastic accountant for those last three years. I stopped being hostile and we started drinking together again, but I didn't like myself going back to the bottle and got clean alone. She was ostensibly working through her fear when Isolde had her sister start joining us in bed, she stopped drinking, and I just wish I understood that there was love."

"Maybe I would've doted on this pregnant live-in mistress/sister-wife/whatever and just kept putting off the trip back here like that fucking motorbike tour of the Ozarks. Maybe we could've been happy-- simply watched the women I loved age and pass on peacefully, or went on and changed the fucking world together."

"I'm so very angry at myself for cursing Amelie's name for 17 years. I know that I should've learned my lesson before, but I already told Sel I didn't like the woman when I remarked on how similar they look."

Fresh from the oven: two kcd hansry mini comics (ft. Zizka and Hynek), one (1) portrait of Samuel (need to draw him more) and a bunch of Kettle Hat Henry doodles again, except this time we got more variety (And yeah, I did draw these because of tunes. again. Everybody say 'thank you Tunes!' >:) she says she is warming up to them but it is still funny to torment her with my henry's fashion choices)
