Ok so ive had this idea stuck in my head for WEEKS at this point and i need to tell someone about it so im invading your asks

(ages for this au, id imagine Damians around like- 12 or 13 and Tim/JJ's like- 17)

What if a version of Damian (like from ine of the good happy batfam universes) was sent to to a universe with Joker Junior where the rest of the bats were killed by the Joker and JJ was never reacued and brought back to being Tim?

And Damian is like- terrified because he doesnt know where he is or how to get back home and then hes found by JJ.

And like- at first JJ would probably try to leave Damian but once he gets a good look at this kid baby brother, thats his baby brother- he would realize that he recognizes this kid. So he keeps him!

The only problem with that is the Joker. Now the bats are all dead (or theres circumstances preventing them from doing anything) in this universe so theres nobody around to stop the Jokers shit. And we all know that the Joker isnt above murdering or tourturing kids. (Id imagine the JJ of this universe has done stuff like that once or twice, but he doesnt like to. He's a smaller equally manical yet WAY less bloodthirsty version of the joker)

So JJ keeps Damian hidden from his "Papa" until the bats of Damians universe are able to find a way to bring him back home. In the meantime tho, Damians under JJ's care, and its terrifying, but at least he tries!

Now in my mind Joker Jr. is kinda like Jinx from Arcane with mood swings, visual and audio halucinations, so so smart but so so crazy and confused and SCARED and oh so close to finally snapping until he actually does.

And this boy that he kiddnaped rescued confuses the fuck out of him. Because Junior recognizes him from somewhere and he doesnt know why.

JJ... Recognizes those glaring emerald eyes and scowling face. He doesn't know why, but it causes reality around him to pulse with uncertainty as it teters between JJ's world and someone else's. Someone Papa doesn't like.

JJ won't talk to them. He knows he's not supposed to. Papa will become angry. So Junior tears his eyes from the bird kid baby bat and turns to leave. A tsk stops him.

Another wave of familiarity crashes over JJ, but he doesn't know that child. He doesn't. He really really doesn't know him.

So, Junior should move. Papa won't he happy if JJ can't move.

Well, unless Papa is teaching JJ a lesson.

His nerves light up at the memory of cold metal tables, electric probes, and buzzing.

JJ needs to go, but that kid. He can't leave him. He also can't take him with either. He knows what happens to the kids Joker meets.

Junior would never disobey his papa, but the ever-present buzzing noise isn't a deterrent for bad behavior. With how often he's punished, it hardly matters whether JJ is being a good child or not. He's always in trouble. Instead, that buzz is a reminder that he can't be caught.

JJ is smart. He's clever and sneaky. He's also great at lying, even to bats. While he may not know why lying to the nocturnal creatures is important, he knows it's an accomplishment he's proud of.

He can hide the child from Papa! It'll be a fun game! Junior's little surprise.

Junior isn't sure what he's winning, but he knows what will happen when he loses.

Death to the bird and punishment to JJ! A great joke!

Though Junior doesn't know why the kid is a bird.

Oh well! JJ will take great care of the little bird. All he has to do is feed him and keep him hidden! It will be like all the other things JJ hides from Papa. He'll never admit it, but Junior thinks Papa is a little dumb. As long as JJ plays pretend with the older man, he'll remain unsupervised.

Anyways, JJ has more of a demented, childish voice while Tim is more analytical and serious.

Damian, to start with, doesn't recognize Tim. JJ has green hair, bleached skin, cut cheeks, and way less muscle mass. The behavior is drastically different as well (also, we're not gonna speculate any specific mental disorders for these AUs. JJ and Tim are considered different due to their characterizstions, but I don't want to put harmful connotations out there [especially since I don't have any relevant conditions to insert accurate and mindful interpretations]).

In this AU, the Bats are all dead. JJ did kill some of them, which drastically reduced his ability to recover and remember that he's Tim.

He didn't kill Damian, though. Tim also feels extremely protective of his younger siblings (Duke included). Unfortunately, they're dead in this AU :/

JJ oscillates between being terrified, peppy, silent, crying, and content at rapid rates. It takes several days for Damian to feel out some of the triggers.

The Bats from Damian's universe are trying their damned best to get there as soon as possible. Sadly, Joker finds out about Damian before then.

JJ, by this point, has bonded with the kid. That kid is HIS. He may have some slightly fucked up notions on how to show care, but he will not let anyone harm the bird (not even Papa).

So, JJ does his best joke yet. He kills Joker.

Only after killing the Joker do the other Bats show up. They offer to take JJ with them (particularly because that's Tim!!!), but he refuses. He doesn't want to go with his family. He doesn't remember them and he killed some of them.

He can't stay with them.

We're 2 books away from the conclusion and I don't know if they have time to turn this around... and they chose to spend time traveling. It's partially a travel book, guys. Several chapters of pointless bullshit.

We start off where the preview left off. They jerk the shit out of your chain with Squirrelstar teasing but spoiler we DO got her

We get a BrambleSquirrel screaming match. Please for the love of god divorce these characters, this is fucking insufferable

They also had to give Bramblestar a smug little gotcha moment where he's right about his argument, Squilf accidentally walks to SkyClan camp for the plot and it turns out that Bramblestar, the guy who was apparently supposed to have memory issues and brain fog, was right that Squilf forgot how to navigate her own territory

Im dead serious she like... accidentally walked to SkyClan.

This is a clever literary trick called bad writing <3

While they're there, Nightheart says, "HEY WASNT THERE A MEDIATOR THINGY? ISNT HE SUPPOSED TO SOLVE DISPUTES?"

There is also an absurd amount of Bramblestar winking at Nightheart and teasing him about his new mate and reminding the audience about how much Nightheart wuvs him. This is probably supposed to be charming?

It's even more Bramble Worship than normal, like the writer is trying really hard to stress how cool and awesome their special boy is :D and how dumb and mean his wife is >:( and it's so fucking forced.

They pad the book by having it be cloudy so that StarClan doesn't show up the first time they try to do the Squirrelstar thing

I kept thinking, "What if this wasn't a willing abdication?? What if the Clan didn't have a second chance to do this?? What if this was Nightstar 2 all over again and she died of plot convenience before coming back?! This dumbfuck system has fixed NOTHING"

Plumstone and Dewnose have a moment where they antagonize Nightheart over the fact he was chosen to accompany Squilf and Bramble to the Moonpool, because he just got back and it's not fair

And you know what? They're right actually

Nightheart huffs that Squilf was giving him a Chance To Prove Himself but he doesn't fucking get it! His whole life's been nothing but chances he threw tantrums about being offered or blew up through wrecklessness, like a spoiled brat nepobaby, and he keeps getting more and more

Meanwhile Plumstone here has been in the background just being this consistently steady warrior, and has never gotten a chance to shine

He also has a moment where he whines about Sparkpelt and Finchlight being mean to him in the past when Sunbeam shares they've been super nice to her.

Sunbeam offers that they're probably trying to make up for it and he agrees.

Folks. I REALLY. REALLY HOPE. That this ends with Sunbeam telling him, "Nightheart, you are the problem. They've treated me like Kin, and they treat their Kin well. Do YOU?"

Anyway something happens and suddenly Nightheart's on the trip with Frostpaw.

The rest of his chapters so far (at time of writing the spoiler thread is at chapter 14-ish) are traveling chapters.

The traveling chapters suck diet discount dick. They look like they were rejected submissions for the various travel shenanigans that happened in Riverstar's Home.

For me, this is the most disappointing part of the Thunder Spoiler Thread. I love Nightheart because I really like the idea of him learning to grow, consider his actions, and realize that he's actually been very loved in his life.

I like the impulsive Nightheart from Book 1 who doesn't know what's wrong with himself, shooting down every attempt others make to bond with him, making shocking descisions that frustrate the entire Clan and not realizing how much he gets away with. I hoped that maybe, just maybe, the writing could be a little clever for once.

But, no. On this trip he's still whining to Frostpaw about how his family "wanted him to be like Firestar" and this is treated as something Frostpaw is able to bond with him about, somehow, because Curlfeather wanted her to be a Medcat??? And now she's choosing to be a Medcat again anyway????

FROSTPAW STUFF

WC Writing Team: "Everyone is super invested in Frostpaw's story where she learns to choose her own path! Especially the idea that she chose to not be a medcat of her own will and made a brave choice for herself! Lets fix that"

Gotta love how Daisy's one major role in ASC so far has been to be a source of negative emotions for Nightheart, but Smoky gets to be the new Barley with a cutesy barn rest stop.

She has the world's fastest field surgery, as if she's some kind of endangered wild leopard and a top-notch vet staff rolled out of a research truck.

They even inject her, by hand, with tranquilizer. Who the fuck carries cat tranquilizer around?

Is this barn in the back of a fucking vet office???

Does this universe have roving surgical vans that drive around and play music like an ice cream truck, waiting for cats to call them over?????

But now her neck wound is fixed and she's spayed.

She looks down at the fresh cut on her abdomen and is like "what's this"

If Frostpaw is okay with being sterilized, this will be the first time in the series that a cat being fixed will be seen as a good thing

And, also, for no good reason, the ghosts can't just answer a question. Why? Who fucking knows. Never explained. They can summon Frostpaw into a Ghost Zoom Call whenever they want now, but they're forbidden from revealing anything useful.

Average autistic experience with zoom calls though, can confirm, that is what every zoom call ive ever been in was like.

Im serious though, she tries to ask Reed who killed him, he just says no i cant :(

Riverstar says nothing useful

I have never been more frustrated with StarClan as a plot device. This is actually fucking insufferable.

They're annoying enough when they send vague signs and prophecies that amount to nothing, but now they can pop up like shitty unskippable cutscenes and STILL add nothing of value to the plot

Something I was ENJOYING was how much more grounded ASC was compared to previous arcs, and that StarClan was back to being difficult to access directly. Gone. Goodbye.

SUNBEAM STUFF

The highlight of the book everyone leave me alone i need to speak directly to sunbeam

I like how she's finding more reasons than just Nightheart to stay in ThunderClan, but is also struggling with the shift in culture

It's in a Sunbeam chapter that we FINALLY get Squilfstar. Everyone say Thank You Sunbeam

If you even LOOK at the Sunbeam wrong I will smash you to death with my hooves

For once it actually feels like we're using the cast in ThunderClan. Cherryfall, Dewnose, Plumstone, Myrtlebloom, Bayshine, Finchlight, Sparkpelt, and Lionblaze all get some significant little lines to add to this.

In particular I like Cherryfall throwing a bit of a fit about being a senior warrior and acting high and mighty, which Sunbeam immediately dislikes because ShadowClan doesn't do as much posturing. It's fun to see how she percieves ThunderClan cats.

I have a softness for these sorts of stories though, to be fair. The idea of moving to a new place and having to adjust.

It's also neat that she's growing frustrated with how Nightheart has now ditched her THRICE.

Ivypool's exams are also pretty neat, they all test teamwork abilities. I'm going to be happy when I finally get to read them in full, if nothing else, these trials have been delightful to see.

Anyway the next emergency gathering comes up and it descends into an argument

Dovewing gets to yell at Ivypool and tell her to back off <3 "You're not going to manipulate my mate through me, screw you"

Tigerheartstar and the other leaders eventually agree to meet with the mediator off-screen because the writers don't feel like showing us Tree's madd skillz which definitely justify having this unique role that we completely forgot about until just now

It doesn't accomplish anything meaningful because they only acknowledged the mediator role to make the fans stop complaining

Tigerheartstar agrees to not station more warriors in RiverClan territory but nothing else. Waow.

aaand Berryheart's planning something and Sparrowtail, Sunbeam's father, accidentally spills the beans to his daughter. I like this because I have always imagined him as a himbo

so... yeah. It's not looking great. I'm not having a good time in this spoiler thread. I am hoping that a fair amount of it is misrepresentation, because if it's what the leaker says it is, I'm not going to be a happy camper

I find it very interesting (A.K.A. annoying) how the idw comic tries defending this whole "sonic never kills" nonsense by bringing up every bad person who's turned around. But they also blatantly ignore all the times Sonic did kill or was fine with letting someone die

The idw comic's writing only barely functions if you blatantly ignore everything outside of it, and even then, it's still extremely iffy.

Secret Rings is canon to IDW, btw. Sonic had a flashback to the events of that game in #16.

Also yeah, some of these are creatures whose level of sapience is questionable... but not all of them. Solaris never speaks in his full form, but Mephiles is explicitly his mind, so we know that he's a cunning, sadistic deity. Sonic slashed King Arthur fully believing he was a real person, and he did act like one. Also Sonic is the very first person Shadow meets in his game, and the very first thing he asks of him is to kill all the aliens in Westopolis, with the goal ofc of reaching the "big boss" if you go through the Pure Hero route. Again, the sapience of the Black Arms is questionable, but those are still living creatures who might as well be slaves for all he knows. Doesn't care! He'll kill them all!

Sonic doesn't have a rule when it comes to his enemies: he's not a pacifist, he's not the Punisher. He either listens to them, or cuts to the chase: it depends on how unrepentant they come across. The very idea of him having a "principle" about it is ridiculous. Sonic doesn't have principles, he doesn't follow rules, he does what he wants to do.

I get the moral dilemma around Mr. Tinker: he's a blank slate genuinely willing to do good, so does he deserve to be punished for crimes he didn't commit? I don't know why Flynn felt the need to insert such a moral dilemma in a book that he himself has said is for kids and thus can't properly explore the concept of identity and sins, but whatever.

Problem is that, somewhere along the line, they started to treat him not as a brain damaged version of Eggman who might as well be a different person, but as "Eggman reformed", which is insane and even creepy from Sonic. It's just absurd that IDW Sonic based his entire moral code, that everyone has the chance to become a better person, after he witnessed his war criminal of an archnemesis simply getting brain damage, and somehow thinking that this amnesiac personality reflected Eggman's real ego. What the fuck.

Oh, and then this ridiculous shit lmao:

Not only Sonic would never play villain apology for Eggman of all people, but those examples are nothing but proof of how selfish Eggman is. He never cared about protecting the planet because of some hidden depths. My man spells his reasoning out very clearly:

oh boy, where do i even start? i'm just gonna try and keep it short because if i try to explain every single aspect in detail, this post could be turned into a book. so i'm just gonna list out all the problems i have with this show, both in terms of problematic elements and poor writing.

blatant ableism towards the autistic character

bullying and mistreatment of a young boy being played for laughs

war and desolation being used as an Aesthetic™ rather than a theme/message

rushed and poorly written character arcs (and no, it's not just catra)

amatonormativity and forced ships (the show is supposed to be representative of the LGBT community, yet almost all of the characters need to end up in a relationship, in order to have a happy ending)

boring and poorly written Final Boss™

too much fanservice (little snippets of fanservice is fine but when you ignore and disrespect canon just so you can make the viewers happy, that's a problem)

an entire kingdom is conquered and its people probably killed/seriously harmed, and its ruler is shown moping around in a bathtub and eating ice cream as if they got stood up by their date instead (this connects to my earlier point about war being trivialized)

the only non-binary representation being a shapeshifting lizard creature (look, i like double trouble as a character but you have to admit that they're not exactly good representation)

one of the most powerful female characters in OG she-ra being reduced to the "doting aunt" (for a show that claims to be about empowering women, they sure ignore the powerful women in canon)

weird pacing and inconsistencies (apparently two or three years passed within the five seasons, yet the characters haven't aged at all, especially frosta who supposedly went from 12 to 14, yet looks exactly the same)

the princesses are useless (they should have named the show 'Catra and the others' lmao)

overuse of character archetypes instead of making original characters (the peaceful vegan flower princess who sometimes loses her temper, the depressed emo girl™, the hyperactive child™)

stereotyping of certain communities (the high-functioning autistic genius, the angry latina, the predatory lesbian, etc)

bad comedy (this is probably subjective and i don't expect everyone to agree, but most of the comedic elements is SPOP was just.. corny. only scorpia worked well as a comic relief character imo)

the only polyamory representation being two bullies and their victim

death of the author™ (basically, confirming things outside of the series, instead of portraying them well in canon)

plot holes and unsatisfying conclusions (adora's origin was a huge plot point in s4 but they completely abandon it in the last season)

there may be a lot that i've missed because i have a goldfish brain and tend to forget stuff. but i'd say these are the main problems i have with the show. it did a few things right, but fucked up on a thousand others.

Legacy of the Scythe headcanons, I guess

Yesterday I said that I had headcanons about the Ender Dragons in Legacy of the Scythe. Now my brain is itchy, so, reader, if you don’t mind, I’m going to yap at you for the next 2 minutes.

In Legacy of the Scythe, the weird glowing golden energy that allows Failboat to turn into a giant cat in Divergence301 (wait… Ray, if you are reading this, this works really well with your headcanon about Miitopia Boat. Anyways) is called the Power of the Scythe. Problem is, it’s called that by the dragons too. Why? How? Aren’t dragons just overgrown lizards, which are strictly quadrupedal creatures? How would they swing a scythe?

The idea is simple (?): shapeshifting.

There is literally no evidence to back this up, and shapeshifting inherently makes the idea very complicated, but it’s the best explanation I have for this other than admitting it is a byproduct of poor writing. (I would rather be sent to the timeline where the chicken nugget wins the commission contest before giving up and accepting that.) So why do we only see them as dragons now? I think that the Power of the Scythe has some sort of shape-changing abilities built into it, since Failboat is able to switch between different artstyles depending on the universe he is in when other characters cannot. (With some minor exceptions: Rapper Failboat’s crew. I’m guessing that Rapperboat has something to do with the 2D-ification of those characters.) When Failboat’s ancestors took the Power of the Scythe from the dragons, they lost the ability to shapeshift. Now, they have even more of a reason to be angry at the players- they took the Overworld and the dragons’ ability to have opposable thumbs. They can’t really do anything about it either, is what I’m interpreting from their non-interference in the race. I mean, one of them could have just snatched it off the platform at the end.. but they didn’t, for some reason. And all that leads up to and finally boils over in Legacy of the Scythe.

Scythes are.. kind of an F-tier weapon, even excluding guns. Why a scythe, and not a sword or an axe if we restrict ourselves to Minecraft tools? Well, maybe, using a scythe is the most efficient way to channel it. For humans, anyway. I’d think that for something like a big dragon, they could just use it without something to direct it through no biggie. But for a dragon in human form, or a regular human, it gets a little more complicated. The reason that a scythe is used is partially tradition and partially because the big blade at the end makes it easier to use the ability to travel into other universes it grants. (that is a whole ‘nother discussion lmao, I imagine the multiverse travel thing as involving the literally cutting through the fabric of space and time trope) So yeah.

to answer your question, my favourite thing about star trek is the characters!! they all have so much depth and we spend a decent amount of time with each of them developing their personalities and backstories and relationships to each other. each individual has their own charm to them, not just the main characters. they all feel like People!! every time someone brings up a character you can't help but say "omg i love [character]!!" no matter who it is lmao

i do also love the special effects and especially the practical effects in star trek. theres something so endearing about watching jim fight a man in a full body rubber lizard suit or a dog wearing a costume to act as an alien lifeform

I think why I'm struggling with his friends having any reaction to like Peter's age is that when they do find out they're not that far removed from 16, they remember being that young and feeling like they were basically adults. I mean you're not basically an adult at 16, you just feel like it, but really the idea is only horrifying to us as the reader because we're not the intended audience of the high school years anymore. kinda like reading hunger games hits different when you're frontal cortex finishes cooking

Have you ever written fanfiction?

I have and I still do, though I have a tendency to completely dissect canon each time and turn the story into my own little thing skdskfjsks. My writing mostly consists of fanfiction works — the ratio is three fanfiction projects to one original work (that is still lowkey fanfiction since it is about a person who existed?). I am, however, struggling a lot with one of my canonverses and am mostly focusing on my original work these days as it brings me endless misery joy and many opportunities to improve my craft.

What do you think says the most about a person?

The way they treat others — that always reveals the kind of person they are the most. You can be extroverted or introverted, a sunshine or a grump, someone who is temperamental or detached, but common courtesy and manners shows a lot about what hides inside your heart (and I ultimately believe that it also reveals just how content you are with yourself). I personally cannot stand condescending people with a holier-than-thou approach to life.

Also, the way they observe what is happening around them and react to these situations. Being able to speak out in defence of someone who is being wronged, openly talking about problems around us, and being aware of the horrible things happening in the world speaks volumes.

It was a massive hit in my country when I was a kid, we used to dance to it alllll the time, but our small lizard brains understood nothing back then. Learning the lyrics and understanding what the song actually is about was like entering a new dimension lmao.

I am naturally a brunette with copperish tones but officially became a member of the Redheads Club this year! I have always, always loved this type of hair colours. My mum has always dyed her hair ginger, so ever since I was a little child, I have always wanted to follow this tradition and have the same hair colour. I feel super pleased & am going for an even lighter shade for the summer. ☀️

i only had an afternoon class today, so i let myself sleep for a bit longer. i got up, ate breakfast, started rereading percy jackson and the sea of monsters, and got dressed

then i had music time to make myself do chores, i sorted and put away all my laundry and cleaned my shower and toilet

i was hungry again so i ate lunch and then it was almost time for class so i went to university

the lecture was about partial derivatives and it was kinda confusing, robin had a very funny rant about it afterwards and we hung out for a bit then i went home because i had plans at 6pm

i met my friend to watch laputa castle in the sky together, because it's my favourite movie and they had never seen it before !!! we rented the cinema room at my student accommodation which i had never tried before but it's really awesome, they have netflix on a big screen and beanbags

i was so happy to watch that movie again (i have seen it so many times but i am always captivated by it) !! i also sketched some characters / scenes from the film to keep my hands occupied. it was very relaxing.

after that my friend went home, because they had to go to bed early because they had the morning shift at 8am. i made myself some dinner and ate it in my room because my flatmate and her friend were doing each others braids in the kitchen (which was super cool !!)

then i started feeling really anxious because i Finally got the opportunity to try going out dancing at the students union with my friends tonight, but i had never done anything like that at all in the past and it was very scary. i got stuck for a while because i was so afraid. the fireworks for chinese new year were also very loud outside my window and it was making me feel very autistic.

i took a shower and got ready while my brain kept saying "i don't want to go i can't do this please just go to bed". but also some of the voices in my head were really excited and they wanted to try something out of my comfort zone and they told me that if i hated it i could just go straight back home with no problem, so i decided to listen to them.

i hesitated before leaving the house because i was worried my outfit (a green checkered shirt, short brown pants, white socks, black doc marten shoes, and an astro boy cross body bag i have had for almost 10 years) made me look like a girl ?? since it was an lgbtq event that we were going to i decided i wanted to be more Gender so i attached my trans badge and bead lizard keychain to my bag and put some pink and blue clips in my hair (partly to keep it in place while dancing but also to match the trans theme) which made me feel very cool.

i was still doubting if i would enjoy myself but i went to the house where @etherealspacejelly and @wiggles-mcgee and the rest of our friends were getting ready and people said me and robin looked very gay and robin said i looked like a twink lmao. somehow that made me feel much better. we went to the students union together and i put my earplugs in so that i would not be overwhelmed by the music and noise. thanks to the earplugs it really wasn't loud at all !!

we started dancing but most of our friends disappeared for like an hour (robin said they went to buy drinks, but we both don't drink so we just stayed where we were). i got told off by a security guard for being too close to a door, which i didn't realise because i am not very spatially aware and also i didn't know what they were saying because i couldn't hear, but robin and lucy helped me.

then we went somewhere else which was less crowded and i was more relaxed because i had been a bit freaked out by all the people bumping into me by the doors. i think i got more comfortable with dancing because everyone else was so into it, especially robin, who was absolutely the ethereal space jelly in real life !!! i hadn't seen it dance that way before, at home i guess there is less space and the music is quieter. i have no idea how to dance, i am extremely awkward and don't know what my body is ever doing, but it was very fun. at one point one of our friends pulled me into the middle and we twirled each other which was very cute !

i saw two people i knew from societies, and a few people talked to me and said my outfit was cool, which was so nice :)

we got some water and i really hated the queue, i think that was the most overwhelmed and stressed i felt all night, apart from when i had to look for my friend who was throwing up in the bathroom to give them some water, that was very scary but i did it and im very proud of myself !!

overall i had a really wonderful time and even when it was over i wished i could stay even longer because i was so full of energy !! we went outside and some random drunk people started singing to us which was funny and then we went back to the house

me and robin probably both looked / seemed drunk lol, we curled up on the sofa and suddenly i was very tired and couldn't speak and i think i fell asleep at one point ??? idk ???

then i went home and took another shower because i was so sweaty and it was giving me sensory issues. i went to sleep at 5:30am or even later than that, but i woke up naturally around 11:30am feeling very normal, so that was good ! i didn't even feel sick or get a headache !

i'm so glad i finally tried going out, because i had never done it before and i was sure that it was not for me, but i always felt left out every month when my friends all dance together, so i decided to try it just to see. and i ended up having the best time imaginable !!!! so im very happy !!!!

as much as i want to be "fuck yeah smoke weed" i can't help but see the research on its affect on the lungs and kinda err on the side of caution. like. i'm not gonna stop people from making life choices but as someone who's dad died of lung cancer even as a non-smoker of any kind, i just like. can't get behind it. the topic of friends smoking anything upsets the hell outta me lmao.

i dunno, weed gets toted in the circles i'm in as totally safe, and maybe it is in non-smoke forms? but smoke of any kind is just like. bad for you, especially if you're doing it daily. like, research is showing vaping isn't much if any better for you—the lungs are just Not Good at dealing with anything that isn't clean air, and the more Not Clean Air you pile into them, the worse off they get; it stacks too. just because you ALREADY live in an area with nasty air doesn't mean smoking can't hurt you more.

and while research into weed smoke causing lung cancer is largely inconclusive, that's a) NOT a no, and b) not the only thing smoke of any kind does to the lungs. damaged lungs can result in all kinds of things, including chronic bronchitis and fatigue, things smoking weed HAS been linked to. it's not just lung damage either; it alters the brain, and frequent usage prevents said brain from ever truly resting, which can create all sorts of problems that may or may not be reversible. (lung damage isn't reversible, btw.)

i dunno!!!! do whatever you want, if a doctor prescribes it obviously listen to him over random concerned lizards on the internet, but with my personal experiences i'm gonna be honest, i don't think it's a good idea. i think medicinal versions are probably vaguely akin to like, autoimmune medications; the risks and damage are simply outweighed by the benefits in certain cases. i'd love to be wrong or just paranoid, but like. smoke is smoke. it's hot and burnt stuff is carcinogenic so i just cannot see how it WOULDN'T hurt your lungs.

plus like. caffeine is horrendously not good for you, and the public perception on that is Fucked, so my doubts are just. through the roof. (i also admit i am in the type of neurodivergence that WOULD get the Bad Effect from smoking weed, so there's like, extra fear just because i CAN'T get the Good Effect out of it. like it would be a nightmare experience for me. and i fully understand this makes it harder for me to see it in a positive or neutral light to begin with.)

I am a SO ready to talk Godzilla movies. I’ve only seen a handful of them compared to like the dozens I know exist-the more recent ones where they were trying to do Avengers but the big Monsties-but god I love them.

Admittedly Kong is seared into my brain because it came out at the Height of my Tom Hiddleston obsession-I even own it in dvd like I was that deep-so that’s the one I remember the best. And it’s the one I like the most because of the wide range of monsters we get to see. Big Buffalo guy? The skull lizards? Fuck yeah love my monsters wish more movies were monster movies lol.

Anyways, the others are more spattering in recollection. But I wanna ask, which of these movies is your fave, why, and what do you think of the empty core earth/godzilla goes into the center of the earth to recharge like Superman does to the sun? I remember finding that very. Odd? But ripe for interest bc in Kong they set up that whole. Under-earth world the skull things came from.

I've also only seen a handful of the movies... exactly 6 Godzilla/Monster-verse related movies (that I can recall anyway): the original Gojira and the original King Kong. And then Godzilla 2014, Kong Skull Island, Godzilla King of the Monsters (watched last night), and Godzilla vs Kong (watched today!).

I've only seen each of them once, and Kong Skull Island is the only one I saw in the theater (Tom Hiddleston obsession what....😅😅💚❤). Watching Godzilla KotM's last night was the first time I'd actually seen several of the monsters I already knew of through cultural osmosis, like Rodan and Ghidorah, which was very cool.

My favorite is hard to say. (I mean, to say the best movie would be easy: it would be Gojira, because I think it's awesome and perfect and very much a product of its time that said what it needed to say. But I feel like it's an entirely separate genre than the other movies I've seen.) I enjoyed Skull Island and I remember it being slightly better story-wise than the Godzilla movies, IE it made me care more about the human characters and they had better development and reasons for what they were doing.

Since it's the one I just watched I might say KotM is my favorite, just because I loved all the monster battles, and because there are apparently no locked doors in this world (Millie Bobbie Brown can just walk into Fenway Park, and also her family home that's been abandoned for months/years, without any keys or any problems). And also because of Charles Dance, who is a fantastic villain even though he looked like he was phoning it in and even though he didn't get eaten by a dragon (It was all I wanted... what was promised. lol). GvK was fun, but not quite enough to overcome the silliness of the premise. (like, come on, giant monkey versus radioactive dinosaur. who do you think wins? I did like that the movie turned it into a team up against Mechagodzilla/the ghost of Ghidorah.)

The first mentions of the Hollow Earth Theory kind of took me by surprise, so it took me awhile to get over the silliness of it especially the gravity inversion lmao. (Just last month or so I finished watching Sanctuary, which has its own Hollow Earth theory lol) But I did really love the concept of Godzilla's temple where he would go to recharge in KotM. (Too bad they blew it up 😭 Or did they?? Maybe Godzilla's temple where he hangs out can withstand nuclear blasts? 🤔) I love the idea that he would go to this place of ancient worship to rest and regain his strength, sleeping among the memories of when he was perhaps more literally a god. The whole "recharging from the center of the earth bc there's radiation" is whatever. The origins of Godzilla have changed so much to get him to fit into this new idea of him and his place within the world and what he represents, so... sure. The Earth is a hollow, Godzilla recharging battery. 👍

I really liked the development they did for Hollow Earth in GvK. I like that Kong's axe gets charged up by Godzilla's blasts. And I loved that when you see Kong's "throne," Godzilla is carved into the stones around the base of the throne. To me this suggests that rather than a rivalry, Kong and Godzilla have an ancient symbiosis: Godzilla is King Kong's guard dog... or perhaps "court wizard" in the sense of the archetypal magician, with the knowledge and power to comprehend a balance within nature that he then "advises" the "king" about. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I dunno but I think that would be really cool. I'd love to see more "monsterverse" movies with fewer human characters getting in the way (though I did really like Millie Bobbie Brown's posse wandering around and stumbling onto Mechagodzilla; that was a cool way to reveal that information to the audience). But more stories specifically about the interactions between these ancient creatures would be very interesting. In the special features for KotM they say that Mothra is the only female monster, which is kind of odd. I suppose Godzilla never really "dies" so he doesn't need to... reproduce in a standard-for-higher-Earth-life-forms way, but I'm pretty sure I remember Kong having parents in Skull Island, which I guess makes him (or his mom) an outlier if we're roping him into the monsterverse. Though the continuity for any of these stories is very loose (in KotM there are kaiju on every continent, but GvK is 3 years later and all of them... left? Everything's normal now. We're all fine here, now, thank you. How are you? And then Godzilla rolls up in Hong Kong and trashes it. There's one shot of a "kaiju bunker" or whatever, but no other preparations or any sort of contingencies for what to do if attacked by world-destroying monsters which last happened 3 years ago).

Anyway I hear there's another Godzilla movie coming out this year, and one called GodzillaXKong which I can only hope is the shipper movie we've all been waiting to see!! ;b

I do think there is something about the fact that my job (defense side civil litigation) requires me on a fairly frequent basis to deconstruct the appeal to the lizard brain. ETA2: speaking of #4 - it's probably my biggest problem with My Journey to You ending, honestly? and I'm on the record as not being GJM's biggest fan (it's always the dialogue. his characters talk... so.... slow ... like... this... and the one-liners), but I actually did overall like the structural arc of the drama all the way up until mid episode 23. Because the fight against Wu Feng and the Gong bros being together feels like the completion of the arc that was set forth at the beginning. (Also, the entire least season of Parks & Rec, which literally felt like it was tacked on because NBC told the creators it has been greenlit for another season after the series finale).

I have a long navel-gazing post about dramas based on a conversation I had with @romchat but I think if I'm going to do more serious meta I should pick up a film theory book.

Because I have learned from that conversation is that I've been using "plot" and "narrative sequencing" interchangeably and I generally mean narrative sequencing when I use the word "plot."

Probably thought there were gonna be a bunch of hot chicks, and he’s mortified by all the regular ass middle-aged folks just hanging out (both figuratively and literally). Can’t carry a normal conversation if any dudes in the nude try to talk to him. Does his best to see as little of his teammates as humanly possible, and stands near the water so he can look at that view instead. Pretends he’s suddenly really interested in shells or something. Keeps his swim trunks securely on his body the whole time.

Soldier

Clothes gone. Simply vanished. In fact he probably destroyed them in his dedication to being naked. He feels free as fuck and has a grand old time, actually letting himself relax and have some fun. Builds a sandcastle of the White House and eats a sandwich (which he thinks is required because it has the word sand in it) before trying to catch fish with his bare hands (and bare everything else). He thinks everyone should be participating, and will lecture anyone who IS wearing clothes about how important “freedom” is in every sense of the word.

To them it’s just like any other beach day. They personally keep covered head to toe, but they don’t care at all about other people being naked, they barely even seem to notice. They have fun playing usual beach games and splashing around in the water, and will be absolutely ecstatic if they are allowed to build a bonfire or access a fire pit.

Demo

He has no problem taking it all off, but secretly he is a little self conscious about his own body. As long as he’s not the only one in the nude, he quickly forgets any reservations and just focuses on having a good time. Probably helps Soldier with whatever crazy thing he’s doing. Doesn’t give a single fuck about other people being naked, but he will reassure anyone who seems nervous. Wants everyone to be comfortable, and will try to keep Soldier from yelling at anyone who does want to keep their clothes on

Heavy

Would have no shame whatsoever in being naked, he just has no interest in doing so in public. He’s too reserved. Doesn’t really understand why anyone feels the need to do so, but doesn’t care enough to ask .Perfectly content to sit on the beach with a good book or a nice conversation with Medic and let the others frolic around.

Engie

He’s way too shy to do more then unbutton his shirt a little extra. His southern modesty honestly makes him feel a little embarrassed around those who are naked. He’s real awkward about it, but eventually lets himself lie back with a beer and relax. He finds the best method is to try not to think about it and avert his eyes so no unfortunate images get seared permanently into his brain.

Medic

He’s a doctor for gods sake, he’s seen more naked bodies than he can count. You literally couldn’t pay him to care. He sees no particular reason to be naked himself, maybe if he planned on going in the water he’d give it a try, but really it just makes no difference to him. He mostly stays on the beach with Heavy, enjoying the fresh air and ocean scenery. Definitely the one mischievously feeding the seagulls

Sniper

The only thing he doesn’t take off is his hat. This is not an area in which Sniper has any shame or lack of confidence, he has no problem going au-natural. Seeing the others doesn’t bother him the slightest bit either. He just takes the opportunity to get a nap in the sun like a damn lizard with only his face covered by his slouch hat.

Won’t so much as take his jacket off. Maybe, maybe, with a lot of convincing, he’ll loosen his tie. He hates the beach, hates sand, hates seawater. There is nothing interesting enough for him to do, so he just kinda sits there grumpily. Naked people don’t bother him exactly, but he would certainly rather not see his coworkers without clothing. That said, he’s more upset about the sand in his shoes to be honest.

Hey you don't have to respond (I only just have found your tumblr and subsequently your post on the damage to and by ef) but it warms my heart to your understanding of human rights and how normal it is for people to behave when they have been denied those things, even if it doesn't completely excuse it. I care an awful lot about writing trauma and trauma recovery, and in my studies of trauma and trauma formation over the years, you just learn that an awful lot of it comes about due to the deprivation of basic human rights, especially rights to safety and care, but even shelter and water (natural disasters are a huge cause of PTSD, and will become moreso as the climate crisis continues).

I also think people just get emotionally attached to different characters and don't have to have 'logical emotional reactions' to them. Someone getting angry at Efnisien because they love Gary is like, completely okay, someone trying to convince me that Efnisien doesn't deserve access to basic human rights because of the trauma that came about due to him being denied basic human rights is something that I'll staunchly argue against!

I have no problems with people being hateful towards characters in fiction, that's what fiction does to us, and our emotions don't have to be logical, and they don't have to make sense. No one owes Efnisien basic empathy, he's really just a fictional construct at the end of the day, and if a person's main reason for reading is like...Gary as a character, they can hate Efnisien to the moon and back, though I question if they'll actually enjoy the story at all, but that's a whole different matter.

I think for me the difference is - like in the situation you're talking about - an anon coming to me and trying to convince me that Efnisien doesn't deserve care. An irrational emotional reaction of hatred to a beloved character is actually not that uncommon in the experience of fiction. People hate Iron Man, people hate Thor, people hate Captain America, yet these characters are pretty obviously drawn as sympathetic heroes. That's just the experience of immersing in fiction.

But when someone believes their irrational emotional reactions entitle them to sort of...emotionally dump on the creator of something with a really shitty grasp of human rights in general - then I'll stand up for the character and the story and general human rights lmao. :D

Tl;dr: People can hate on a character and lack empathy and wish all sorts of horrible things on them in the privacy of their own brain (or in a tiny group of people who also hate that character lmao). Coming out in public and trying to justify illogical responses to characters so we can all see it, sure is a take, and not one most of us agree with, because most of us do have empathy for this character because like...many of us find him relatable. Also human rights. I think the issue there was maybe the lack of a filter on the anon's behalf, or the lack of understanding that their emotions =/= reality.

So it's like, I agree with you anon! But I also think people have the right to feel all sorts of emotions towards fictional characters they wouldn't let themselves feel (I hope) towards real people (or would have their empathy brain kick in after their lizard brain goes GRR). Efnisien isn't a real person, even if he's real in my head and in the heads of many others, but just like underage fiction doesn't hurt real minors, someone hating on a character doesn't hurt real people - until that person airs their thoughts in a way that implies that all humans who behave the way don't deserve basic respect, and then it's like...well, that's shitty as fuck.

I'm not interested in being a member of the thought police. People want to torture and hate a character in their heads, they can! No one has a logical perfect brain, it's all just meat up there, some of that meat is vengeful lol. It's when you bring that out into the world in a way that's harmful or shows a prejudice towards people, or that hurts people, that we have a biiiiig problem.

I'm really excited but I also have SOOOOO many problems with the mcu overall that I'm sure I'll be mad in some capacity regardless of what they do to Adam, expect a lot of complaining for years to come :'^]

In other ways I'm pretty easy to please, I unfortunately enjoy watching even the most garbage mcu flick so they'll have to fuck up REALLY BAD for me to 100% fully detest it. Like I just can't bring myself to hate mcu!Thanos despite my endless bitching and moaning over how they chose to portray him lol. The pure lizard brain serotonin rush I get from seeing him punch Tony in the face outweighs all dodgy characterization I guess!

Even tho they barely reflect the comics I have a fondness for Gunn's GOTG films in particular, GOTG v2 is my favorite mcu movie so I'm hoping 3 will dethrone it but we shall see!! I do at least trust Gunn to deliver some actual themes and hopefully interesting characterization... I'm very curious (NERVOUS) to see what he has planned....... 👁️👁️
