Looking For Players! [LFP] For L.U.R.K.E.R. A Stalker Inspired D&D 5e Homebrew Campaign.

Alright guys, you know me, you're my followers. But now you're officially invited to join my D&D Campaign.

Some things you should know about ME before you get invested in the idea.

I am not and never will be "PC." I know, I use Tumblr, I just use it as a blog. I do not like the broader community.

I have dark humor. Very dark. Stuff happened too me, and humor is a natural way to cope. Plus, dark humor is shocking, and shocking is funny.

I also have stupid humor. I'm a clown. Honk honk funny nose hehehaha

I like to do impressions, and I'm a voice actor, which is something you guys might not know about me here on the blog. But if you came from YouTube, you've seen a few of my demos.

I'm very inclusive. I do not care where you come from, what you believe, or who you are. Don't bring up politics, don't force your beliefs on others, and state your boundaries clearly, and we have NO PROBLEMS! Don't try to make other people stop doing things, don't try to police other people, don't try to claim things that aren't true or backed up by science and fact around me, and we're good. I am a 100% objective person, I know that's hard to believe, but I don't care. If someone proves something to me, I take that evidence and roll with it.

I don't believe in politics or discussing them. I think politics are a bastardization of philosophy. That said, somethings are falsely considered politics in my opinion, and that includes current events like wars. I am a historian third and because of that I discuss wars from an unbiased perspective. Be respectful of that. I don't align with any country or ideology besides my own.

Now onto the campaign

This is not an NSFW campaign. There will be no epic sexo with the mutants. Although there are themes of sex in this campaign, nothing will be on screen, nothing will be described, ERP will be shut down at the first sign. If you want your character to have a relationship with an NPC discuss it with me in between sessions my dude we'll chat about it.

this campaign is going to be taking place in my table top discord server. An invite will be posted below where you'll find out more about how we're going to do characters, sheets, and gameplay.

I know a lot of people want combat maps. I don't have any combat map tools. We're going to be learning together.

We're looking for a Tuesday night window. I'm EST, one of the other players is Central. I have no problem with other timezones, but Tuseday night for me is like 5pm for you if you are on the west coast.

Now the story...

The Core of LURKER is survival in an anomalous area known as the Exclusion Zone. In the heart of the Zone is the CNPP, Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant. The surrounding area is full of mysterious physics-defying pockets of space which are known as Anomalous Hazards, shortened to Anomalies by the L.U.R.K.E.R.’s and scientists who travel within the zone’s confines. These anomalies have given way to mysterious objects, called Zone Artefacts. These Artefacts have strange effects on those exposed to them, and through special containers known as Applicators, the effects of the artefact can be concentrated onto an individual. However, akin to Artefacts, Mutants have also appeared. Twisted disturbing creatures with impossible features, crafted by malice and aggression. Some just want to be left alone, others seek out prey. And they never stop till they are satisfied.

You play the part of a L.U.R.K.E.R. An intruder in the Exclusion Zone, and one of many just like you. Split across multiple factions, amongst Outsiders, Sellswords, and wanna-be LARPing Militias, you make your little mark on the Zone. No matter how small, it still left an impact. This is not a story of success, this will not have a happy ending, you may become a legend, but this is how you were taken by the Zone.

Those who leave the Zone for a long period suffer a mysterious and deadly illness. Rumors say the only way to leave and live a normal life after is to venture to the CNPP and make a wish on a giant monolith known as the Wish Granter. Will you make it? And will you make the right choice? Or will you be just like all the others...? And succumb to the Zone. This campaign centers around a select few key figures who ventured into the center of the Zone before you. Hopefully you'll make it further than they did.

There'll be a lot of options of how you effect the zone. There is a Lawful Evil path, a Chaotic Evil path, a Lawful Neutral path, a Chaotic Good path, a Neutral Good path, a true neutral path, and a neutral evil path!

There are various factions. Aligning with a certain faction will change your characters perceived alignment. For instance, aligning with this worlds equivalent of Duty will make you Evil. If you disagree that duty are considered evil, you are wrong lol.

Yes, you can side with the monolith. I don't recommend it and it's difficult to do.

We're going to be establishing a common goal during session 0 as well as discussing all the homebrew, so don't be afraid to join and probe things out if you aren't sure.

I'm the DM of course. I've got 9 years total experience. I've completed 7 and a half games. I say 7 and a half because one of them had an ending but was intended to end when the party members died. So I just say half for that one. Four of the 7 completed games were run by me! I have a great track record thus far, and I've run a lot more incomplete games.

I’ve been working on setting up a Gestalt D&D discord server and wanted to put out some feelers to see if anyone wanted to DM or help out in other capacities.

I’ve got most of the basic rules and guidelines written up, mostly just need to finalize lore and write out the character creation section. Some details:

18+ server. PG-13 rating. No NSFW OR ERP

Rules: D&D 5e (2014), with Gestalt characters

Gestalt: every time you level, you take abilities from two different classes simultaneously

Asynchronous: no need to live at the computer, posting speed is more relaxed!

Play by post: everything is typed, no voice channels

Westmarches/ Living world: basically, you’re in charge of your own character arc and story. There’s no real overarching campaign; people pop in and out and participate in as much as they like.

You can interact and rp with others without a DM in town, go one one-shot style quests, and take part in combat-focused hunts.

Downtime activities in the works after the other basics are in place

Basic lore premise: homebrew post-apocalyptic world. Something cataclysmic happened on the world above and drove people underground. They’ve since rebuilt near magic leylines, and have used high-level magic to create a false sky, get agriculture going, and generally restart society. Enough time has passed that the city is starting to send out researchers and adventurers to re-investigate what’s going on on the surface.

If you’d be interested in DMing, running combats, or helping out with admin stuff, hit me up!

Looking for a trans friendly DND game!

So I've been playing DnD for about 10 years or so. Started with Pathfinder (Still my favorite!), have some experience with 5E and I REALLY wanna try PF2e. About 6 years of my experience has been as a GM, so I'm really looking forward to having a PC again! I'm very early on in my transition, so I thought DND would be a fantastic way to explore myself and work on my fem voice. DND Character Concept

I got a new character concept that i really really want to try out so badly im picturing a character who is one of the few whos returned from the feywild, hair streaked red and and blonde, the tatters of a fine dress hanging about her, when shes found nobody notices the slim ring fall off her hand.

i'm struggling with specifics, but the general idea is Character who left the feywild to protect her wife, embroiled in politics and fae war that's brewing so she couldn't be used as leverage against her -she may or may not be a Queen, i'm leaning more towards a Dutchess of a one of the Courts, or, that is, married to them. Not one herself? I worry i'm not making any sense with this

Changes to the Zombie - Vers. 1

As part of my Ravenloft/Domains of Dread Hopping Campaign, my players are going to be visiting Falkovnia and defending a small lumber farm over the course of a few days leading up to the full moon. While I love fighting and/or playing zombies (my main PC is literally a spider-infested corpse), I find 5e's basic zombie stat block a bit lackluster, particularly when using it in mass combat with low level PCs. Of course, there's the Strahd Zombie, but the extra limbs become a pain to track, and when working with a party of four level three characters, I can't have too many of them in a fight.

With the session less than 12 hours away as I write this, here's what I'll be test running:

I'm using the RAW statblock as a starting point, and will be making only small changes to the AC, HP, and Damage details, to keep the CR close to 1/4.

Rather than just the Slam attack, I'll be adding a Bite and Claw/Slash attack. Each attack will have the same Damage dice, before taking into account the changes mentioned later. The main variations will be the Damage type, with slashing for the Claw/Slash, and piercing for the Bite. One of my favorite house rules I've played with and used is that the damage type for some weapons can change depending on how the attacks are described, and I want to provide the zombies with a few different options.

To keep with the CR, they won't receive Multiattack, and just have the option to shift between attack methods.

To make it easier to come up with descriptions for the zombies, and to create some mechanical variation between them, I created a simple table to roll on as needed. Most are purely aesthetic changes, though a few change speed, buff or debuff damage/attack rolls, and impact AC.

A Missing Jaw have a -1 to hit, along with the debuffs from a Broken Jaw or Missing Teeth.

Zombies with Missing Teeth, Missing Fingers, or a Broken Jaw have a -1 to damage rolls of their respective attacks.

A Limp drops speed by 5, and Missing a Leg by 10. Those Missing Both Legs are prone and must crawl.

Armor, even when broken, adds some kind of protection. Wearing it provides the zombie with +1 AC.

Larger zombies receive an extra hit die and +1 damage to Slam attacks.

Anyway, I'll be testing this stuff out tomorrow, I'll give an update as soon as possible about how it all went. I don't do a lot of homebrew, at least not beyond reflavoring stuff, so this will probably need a few revisions before it's actually decent.

About This Server

Welcome to Nestenel! This is a roleplay-focused, asynchronous play-by-post server that uses the DnD 5e (2014) ruleset, along with Gestalt rules, and starts at lv. 3 with a free feat and starting common magic item. This server aims to be a collaborative, safe, and welcoming community for folks to play and interact. There will be opportunities to engage in RP, combat, DMing, and everything in between!

While we won’t ask your age, this is an 18+ server. This is NOT an NSFW/ ERP server. Content and language should be kept to a PG-13 level.

Server Setting

This server takes place in a homebrew land that was once similar to Faerûn. Nearly 400 years prior to the present, a new god, The Watcher, turned Their eyes here and disrupted the flow of the world. The Watcher's power was unlike anything that had been seen before, easily dwarfing the other gods.’ They took the world as Their own, to be molded as Their plaything. Life on the surface soon became unrecognizable, and those who spent an extended amount of time there went mad.

Thankfully, The Watcher’s arrival was foretold by the world's inhabitant gods. Some fled to other planes as refugees, some created pocket dimensions to hide in. Nestenel was rebuilt underground on top of a junction of leylines. The gifted and talented were able to recreate much of what they once had above, including an artificial sky, fertile farmlands, and more.

In the present day, the city runs smoothly. Research on the new world above has begun. A tower is built by The Watcher, inviting the especially talented to fight Their other “toys” in order to keep Them entertained. In all, the city is now a place that attracts adventurers and citizens from all walks of life.

Role play in the city with other players (non-DM’ed interactions, giving you full reign on your story)

Go on one-shot style quests

Engage in Gauntlets: single-encounter PVE combat in a party of 5

Spar with other players’ characters

I have a discord and a teifling bard I really want to play but unfortunately I am only free on Sundays. I have been playing DND for a while and I'm familiar with the mechanics so no need to teach me basics.

Honestly idk. I’m not seeing any (new) discourse about gygax or dnd tbh. I’m in indie rpg spaces outside of tumblr (one of the other special interests)(tumblr I keep to myself cause actual play fandoms burnt me tf out in 2020) so like I’m aware of some of the common gripes, just not this specific one? A lot of the bullshit I see stems from a couple different places which I’m throwing under a cut.

1) wizards of the coast and the parent company, hasbro, are big corporations and are y’know evil in various ways. Hasbro literally hired the Pinkertons to go after a guy last year bc he accidentally received a magic the gathering set early.

2) wotc/hasbro wants you to keep giving them money forever. A lot of ppl in online rpg spaces don’t want to do that.

3) the table top role playing game (ttrpg) space is so saturated by dnd that it is most people’s first and only game. This is exacerbated by actual play podcasts, twitch streams, and youtube series that only play dnd. This has led to many many rounds of discourse about “playing other ttrpgs” and “play indie ttrpgs.”

4) building off that, a lot of casual players and gms resist learning other systems when they can instead “hack dnd to do things and genres it was never meant to do so they don’t have to learn another game.” (Something I’ve had an acquaintance say to my face about a homebrew campaign she wanted to run).

5) the refusal to explore outside a nebulous “comfort zone” negatively effects indie creators trying to eek out a living on the indie/self-pub side of it. Would they have made a sale anyway? I dunno. But it’s hard to reach/grow an audience when half the market only wants to do one thing. (This circles back to #3)

6) idk people like to hate things and decades old misogyny is an excuse to start cancel culture puriteen bullshit. There was some nonsense a couple years ago about phylactery being a Jewish word and omg is this secretly antisemitic?

7) this one is personal opinion, but dnd isn’t actually the best system out there for everything and i feel like a lot of the arguments are people trying to get others to acknowledge that. Dnd has severe limitations and a habit of putting everything on the gms shoulders to “make the game work.” Depending on what I’m trying to do or what type of game I want to play there are other rpgs that do it better. My first thought, no time spent thinking, example is if I was going to do a wrestling game, I would go crack open world wide wrestling, a system designed top to bottom to tell stories about wrestlers rather than trying to figure out how to do it with dnd’s combat or skill check system.

8) a lot of indie games will handle things for gms and players so they don’t have to reinvent the wheel to make a game work. Some things can be hacked easily enough but I love cracking open a playbook and having everything handed to me. One of the first indie games I ever read/played was called Sleepaway and had people play as camp counselors at a camp haunted by the lindworm. Sure I could make the sporty counselor, the arts and crafts counselor, the lifeguard, and the newbie in dnd classes but instead the rulebook did the heavy lifting for me, and kept it thematically relevant. Why not let the rulebook hand me character tropes rather than inventing it by myself?

9) something something queer players should give queer creators money instead of it going to a soulless corporation or misogynist creators.

10) idk I’m just adding bullet points at this point cause the adhd likes “and one more thing” and 10 feels like a nice even number

Anyway I feel like attacking the creators boils down to “you should hate this thing cause this guy sucks” and also a bad argument in favor of playing other games. I fully endorse checking out the extended ttrpg scene if you’re looking for something outside the fantasy genre that DnD has made its standard. There’s a ton of games out there worth playing. I am a better role player having played other games
