“Mitts off the coffee!!”

Hello!! :D This is my entry for @hugsarethugs draw it in your style!!

I’m not very well versed in digital drawings- but what I do have is a lot of card and a local library!!

I do love the ‘moments before disaster’ look this photo ended up taking haha

I made this using card, cardboard, coffee sticks to keep the ‘computer’ standing- and a plastic sheet for the a broken screen! Through pure rage alone did Robotnik achieve this (I want to imagine that maybe this was the first time he managed to get the drink right only for some random agent to grab it instead)

#also fun fact I used a cup for the Badnik shape!! And while it didn't always turn out the way I hoped-#-being messy and earnestly trying to do something different has been my favourite part of art.#There will always be a lot of room to grow - I don't think art and creativity has a ceiling.#I went from doubting that I was even an artist to joining a gamedev team as the lead artist! That's character growth!#Thank you all once again for joining me on this journey B*)#Thank you for all the messages and support you have sent my way these last 18 months.#I'm so happy to have been given the chance to create something for this community. ART RAMBLES: as i mentioned on the tags of my last drawing this piece gave me SUCH a headache #i think it's probably cos it was just supposed to be a quick sketch so i used a more stable pencil brush #but then i really liked it so i decided to properly colour it instead of just doing the watercolour thing i usually do for sketches #but with finished pieces i like the lineart to be kinda messy and the sketch to even show through bit #and since i used the more stable brush for the sketch it ended up looking WAY too clean. not like my stuff at all.#so i just started throwing stuff at the wall to see what could make it more interesting. full background! actual lineart! texture layers!#and this here is what i was the happiest with. i don't... love it though. it should be looking way more interesting given the pose #and then i also did the purge girl halfway through this and it looked SO good right out of the bat (pun intended)#so i went a bit into a spiral. did some realistic stuff i'll post soon. and now am trying out a thick black lineart style.#(i'll definitely still use the coloured lines for the sketchy watercolour stuff though. it just looks way too cute)

The Burden of Being Henry + The Kiss Scene

I made this point in my Hans-falling-in-love post but it deserved its own because I'm still thinking about it, days later.

As this scene from KCD1 points out, Henry is the axle upon which the world turns. And he does not like that about being a video game protagonist. Nothing happens unless he makes it happen. He always has to initiate. This is a burden (and it is a burden) that is always on his shoulders.

I remember a post in the first Hansry comm (rip) that suggested that Henry looked the way he looked after Hans kissed him because Hans took away his agency, his ability to give or deny consent in that moment.

I don't read that scene that way at all (and not only because this game clearly sees some value in establishing consent in a romance scene). I've already talked quite a bit about why I think Henry reacts the way that he does and I've seen others write up wonderful posts about it as well, but:

A part of me is almost convinced that Henry was never going to make the first move. It's too risky. It could get his lord in lord in trouble. Hans has been cagey about reciprocating any of Henry's subtle romantic advances because he's been stuck in a quagmire of repression and fear.

So Hans made the decision for them both. Willingly took away the need for Henry to shoulder that burden (and the responsibility that would come with any consequences that could very well follow) and took it on himself. Equality is a huge theme for Hans in this game, and by taking the initiative, he "lowers himself" in a sense to Henry's level, removing any artifice and any protection that might have been granted to him had Henry kissed him first. Just this once, Henry didn't have to be the one to do it. Just this once, someone else made something happen in his life.

And I think that for Henry in particular, video game protagonist that he is, that is really, really beautiful.
