i have now joined the ranks of people who have watched the lord of the rings: extended edition in full. i'm also reading the books. i want to dissect the score and pause at every scene. i am already the annoying person spewing fun facts while watching. no regrets whatsoever

For all that is talked about, Legolas does not get nearly enough praise for how kind he is.
Joins the fellowship on a mission almost guaranteed to take all their lives in sacrifice without blinking. Never uses his title of prince and, in fact, doesn’t mention it at all. Takes part in the battle despite it having little effect on him, with his people sailing west and leaving the war-torn shores.
He rebuilds the rubbles of cities destroyed, makes the world better and filled with life, both flora and fauna. He stays beyond the calling of the sea, resisting the desperate urge engraved in his bones calling him to sail. He, with a gentle hand and a brave heart, handbuilds a ship and takes the risk of bringing Gimli along with him.
He doesn’t have to, but he did.

The Hobbit Comic Adaptation Chapter 17: Dawn First chapter / Previous / Next
To view full comic: Website/ Webtoon/A03 / Tumblr post with links to all chapters
Other blogs: TikTok/Instagram/Tumblr Sideblog Thank you for reading! This comic takes a while to draw and I appreciate every comment. <3 :_; This chapter was originally going to be much shorter, but then I realized this would be Bilbo’s last moments in Bag End for a very very long time. I thought it was important to put a lot of detail into the backgrounds, to make it clearer what is tempting Bilbo to stay and what he will lose and feel nostalgic for if he leaves. Anyway, people who recognize what the little decorative horses are will win my respect. Some of you probably noticed this, but the white borders of this chapter are a reference to the line “maps made in the Shire showed mostly white spaces beyond its borders.” This line is from FOTR and referenced in chapter 15 of this comic. Another note! In the original book, Bilbo is pressured into leaving by Gandalf; in the movies/fanon, he makes the decision alone. I mixed the two! In a previous chapter, Gandalf gave Bilbo a deadline ("meet us here by eleven"), but Bilbo ultimately makes the decision alone. The next chapter, “Over the Hill and Across the Water,” will arrive….eventually!

The FANCIEST blu-ray box set I've ever seen...
The Middle-Earth Ultimate Collector's Edition Blu-Ray: Complete LOTR + Hobbit Trilogies, Extended Editions + all Appendices. Each movie has its own "book" that holds its discs, which are all stored in a special bookcase. There's also two beautiful art cards with art by Alan Lee and John Howe, and a completely filled red book that has all the ending character portraits from the movies and more.
This is a set from 2019, so there are higher resolution movie types/sets with different media that have been released since, but I can't top the presentation of this. I feel really lucky that I was able to find a reasonably priced second-hand set!

Tolkien personally states that his elves were supposed to be what humanity would be like without original sin. However, in basically every version of the Abrahamic creation myth, wanting to wear clothing is a direct result of eating the fruit of knowledge. Meaning that for the worldbuilding, philosophy, and theology of Tolkien to make sense the elves would have to be naked unless they specifically had a reason not to be. However none of the works in the lotr cannon have properly portrayed elves this way. However, with the power of cgi, deaging technology, and labor rights violations, in an all new extended edition coming to Amazon Prime in 2025...

If you'll excuse me a moment, I have to go cry at the way Aragorn takes a moment in the preparation of a battle to comfort a child who is facing down terror and death and the way he holds his shoulder like he does to his friends and looks him in the eye and says so softly but so firmly "there is always hope"

It's another "extended edition" poll! This question was first asked in June of last year, and with some recent polls breaching containment and sparking confusion for non-Silm readers it seems like an excellent time to bring it back.
I've replaced the three lowest-polling options from the previous poll and added five new ones. I had to paraphrase to get them to fit the 80-character limit, so do read the original thread for the full versions and additional jokes.
Credits in order: @absynthe--minded, @hennethgalad, @blindbrilliance, @vigilantsycamore, @finnritter, @i-am-the-inksinger, @daegred-winsterhand @maglor-my-beloved, @kanalaure, @squirrelwrangler, @what-would-maglor-do, @captainofthefallen.

You? Oh, I see. A chance for Faramir, Captain of Gondor, to show his quality. I think not. I trust this mission only to your brother. The one who will not fail me.

Not that anyone cares but.. apple music has all the hobbit and lord of the rings albums… i put them in a playlist in chronological order (according to how i watch the movies, hobbit tril first them lotr tril second cuz duh) and im so happy to fall asleep listening to literally the entire series because if you didn’t know most if not every scene has a soundtrack accompaniment aka you can watch the whole movie by just listening to the soundtracks(it obviously doesn’t have the dialogue but as someone who has seen all the extended editions back to back several times it feels like im watching the movie without actually watching it and i know exactly where i am in each scene)

Low-key love that the LOTR and the Hobbit movies have their extended editions so that I can have SUCH LARGE PORTIONS OF DETAIL that I can process and come back to and still have over an hour and 45 minutes left to absorb while they're still not on the way to fucking Mordor yet
Loove it like yes tell me everything but let's also have lunch and a nap and think about that for a while so I can totally be engrossed in your extremely detailed drama (人 •͈ᴗ•͈)
