Death by Despair 🌙

Prologue art summary:

Basically this specific event occurred a couple weeks after Kenpachi was made the new captain of the Eleventh Division. His first assignment to the Living World was to search for any Pluses whose chains had been severed in order to cleanse them.

Regrettably the very first Plus he encountered was an unfortunate victim of s//icide. The chain was already severed from the body by the time he got there and it had already eaten itself too close to its end point.

The soul ended up turning into a hollow and despite it being his duty to eliminate any hollows in the Living World Kenpachi chose to spare it instead (the reason for doing so was never clarified by the captain).

He did drop the “trapped under the Euphrates for so long” thing a few days ago, which is a reference to a passage in Revelations about four fallen angels who are kept trapped under the Euphrates river until it’s time for them to be unleashed and wipe out 1/3 of the population. Some people do connect those 4 fallen angels with the 4 horseman, but they are usually interpreted as different? If we’re going straight up bible references, the 4 horsemen are summoned from the first four (of seven) seals broken on god’s like apocalypse scroll, then all 7 angels (cause the horsemen are angels) each get a trumpet, and when the 6th angel blows their trumpet the 4 demons/fallen angels trapped under the Euphrates get released to kill 1/3 of all humans. They did also have weird horses but color isn’t described so much as like breathing sulphur n shit.

I feel like I started this reblog going to agree and then I pulled up the Bible site and I’m like wait— lmao.

Well, I mentioned in another post that the main courting ritual for butterfly hybrids is gifting sweets. So if you didn't see that post, I think it's very cute to keep in mind that that is the whole reason Lizzie learned to be a really good baker! She wanted to make sweets for Joel so she could court him properly!

Joel, being a bad boy, tried to play it cool and act like he wasn't all that interested in sweets, but his antenna spark with glamor when he gets excited and that was a dead give away. She had to stop surprising him with cookies or sweets she made because if he wasn't expecting it the patterns in his wings would light up with glamor from happy surprise and we all know Joel isn't supposed to channel glamor in his wings anymore 😔

Joel is shorter than Lizzie and grumpy about it! Lizzie is also way stronger than him, which results in some very funny events such as her carrying him over the threshold of their bakery when they first got the building, because without being able to channel glamor Joel can't lift Lizzie anymore. He was huffy about the whole thing but he let Lizzie do it because it made her happy. Grian still has the photos, Joel wishes he could burn or delete them but there's no way Grian is letting that happen. 😆

Joel goes for check-ups at the labs with Doc several times a year to make sure the tear in his wing isn't getting any worse. They've tried a few temporary solutions to ease his pain, including different potions and they've even discussed the idea of attempting an augmentation, but Joel refused. It would be too heavy, and glamor can't pass through inorganic material, so while maybe it might ease some of his pain, it would shut down any hope of a treatment coming along in the future that might be able to repair his wing so he can fly again. Not like he's holding out hope, he's pretty much accepted at this point he'll never fly again, but that doesn't make it any easier. We've seen him work through all of this, though, and now he at least will go for flights with his avian friends or Mumbo...y'know, if he can convince Mumbo to fly. 😆

For a short period of time I was an assassin (between the events following Age 15 and The Dragon’s head conflict). Ranpo seeks me out with permission from Fukuzwa to invite me to join the ADA and I accept. Ranpo and Yosano are like siblings to me, Fukuzawa is like a father to me. When Dazai joins the ADA I’m the only one who tends to be unaffected by his performative personality, i might even egg him on 💀💀 and because of that, him and I become really close friends. When Kyouka joins the ADA she becomes my little duckling, she looks up to me and I adore her, I even offer to let her stay with me instead of Atsushi

for this specific mc, I don't think I could write about her time with sei because it would give me insane psychic damage DGLSHKFSJD. but I do have a WIP about her childhood at the orphanage. I've been struggling with the voice and plot though - I can't think of a way to make it romantic, and I'm not sure that anyone would want to read a fic about the psychological landscape of orphaned children being raised to become weapons 😭😭😭 but it was basically going to give context on why gaku behaves like a guard dog for the mc, why the mc trusts him so much, why she feels a very painful attachment to kei that she finds difficult to disregard, etc.

I also am ashamed to admit that if I DO ever end up dropping anything for gaku/tumblrina... in all honesty it would most likely be porn about them getting together post-shin. because that's easiest to write and I have no brain cells SFKSHLDJSSJ. I think it would be somewhat comedic (tumblrina freaking out at the sudden pseudocest but then shrugging it off when she feels the size of gaku's dick), but it would also be kind of sad (she cannot bring herself to kiss gaku for the longest time and he doesn't understand why that makes his chest physically ache) and it would also be super horny (she is not surviving that dick I am being so serious). I cannot promise anything but I can always answer questions if u have any 😭

hello in your death by despair artwork. What was the possible time period that plus nnoitra died and what kind of backstory he has that would make him take his own life

Wasn't expecting to do a lore ramble today but here we go! :D

This happened over 100 years before main events of Bleach, I'd say around the mid 1850s (around the end of the Edo period and into the Meiji period).

During that time Nnoitra went by the human name Nobuki Gishitomi. She was the heiress of a wealthy family (publicly known as the Gishitomi Clan) who had high influence and power. Nobuki was the first female heir in a clan that had been known to have all male heirs, and as a result she was deemed weaker and inferior for it.

An absurd amount of pressure and expectation over social standing was heavily pushed on her by direct family and relatives. The discriminatory bias and constant comparisons to her ancestors/past heirs made her feel insignificant and worthless. She'd often turn to the company of nature in her family's estate gardens for comfort, and in doing so developed a particular fondness for the praying mantises that lived among the flora.

Nobuki was often ridiculed for having empathy for insects, and she often found herself wishing to be as strong and fierce as the mantises she admired. In spite of the high status she chose to pursue personal niche interests (even if her family disapproved), the most notable being entomology.

Although she held the prestigious title as heiress she was extremely miserable and depressed due to how demanding her family was about maintaining power and influence. She often struggled to see herself as worthy of her position, even developing an inferiority complex that led to unhealthy self deprecation and internal misogyny.

The straw that broke the camel's back was when the Gishitomi Clan attempted to arrange a suitor for her with the intention of completely stripping her of the rank as heiress as well as any inheritance she'd have from her family name. Trapped in a life she couldn't escape Nobuki turned to the only means of freedom from her dismal existence and took her life.

The anguish and despair as a living mortal influenced the shape her hollow form took, hence why Nnoitra takes on the appearance of a praying mantis. His hollow hole from the deteriorated chain of fate formed over his eye is a symbolic representation of his inability to see hope for himself.
