Small character detail I have no good excuse to mention: Hyden hates anything remotely similar to "fast food". This applies to all AUs. He finds greasy, cheap, oversalted/overly sugary food disgusting. Additionally, he hates--HATES--messy food. The only foods he will eat with his hands are ones that are very clean and dry and leave no residue. Getting some sort of sauce or grease on his hands is one of the worst sensations in the world (doubly so when he's a bunny… to be fair, can you imagine eating barbecue while wearing fur mittens? Ew!)

When he was younger, he was slightly more flexible on these limitations. Here he is eating a "ham burger" normally to show how normal he is. He is fitting in with the common man. He is pulling it off. He's got this. Look how relaxed he is. You could almost miss the Rolex on his wrist.

Of course, every rule has its exceptions. As has been mentioned before Hyden often has no idea where food comes from or what goes into it. At some point, somebody failed to mention to him that Cinnabons come from kiosks at the mall and cost less than $100 each. Therefore, they escaped his "fast food is disgusting and I hate it" filter, and, in a modern AU, became one of his favorite desserts. He has a pastry or two each morning with his coffee and then wonders why he never seems to lose any weight.

first off I’m flattered you think of my stories that way 😭 only the tip of the iceberg of my OC lore is out in the open so knowing that you fw it even when it’s like that means a bunch 🥹

I’m sorry I don’t think I have a crazy helpful response to this because I never really ‘trained’ or ‘studied’ in a way to create stories😭 I’m a cornball that grew up in the DA rp scene since I was like 14 so I was just constantly in a sandbox with other folks creating stories and having our OCs interact and develop with each other (and in turn developing our writing and world building skills) in a variety of worlds and scenarios for going on pretty much 11 years now, so it’s sort of just my disease/obsession with wanting to develop stuff like that😔

the most I can think of right now though is to consume media that DOES make really detailed stories and world building for their characters and become inspired by it, and DOCUMENT IT. whether it’s making a self insert, a fan OC, or maybe even an au for your ocs, and the more you think about it the more you develop it and maybe even make a universe of your own from the stuff you learned and enjoyed (every piece of media I that I’m obsessed with I always think of a OC for I won’t lie). The most impactful pieces of media that inspire me to this day are HxH, Bayonetta, Bleach, Bloodborne (it’s a newer obsession but MAN is it good), the Nier games, and a plethora of visual novels (mainly the crazy lore heavy otomes) that would take too long to name😬

That’s all I got, and it’s honestly just really subjective, I make stuff like this because I LOVE making it and I just love lore and the games and shows I mentioned SO much that I get motivated from them! Hope this helped at least a little lol

the real answer is that there shouldn’t be any doubt kuukou isn’t shakku’s biological son lol, kuukou himself has said he was born as a temple heir in his first hypnosis radio and shakku and kuukou do look enough alike, and that seems to be a common thing amongst the characters with parents as a focal point; ichiro and dice also look like their fathers (presumably on dice’s part lol)

kuukou’s mom being out of the picture makes him the odd one out of these mommy/daddy issues characters lol, like regardless of whether or not they’re in the picture, we do know what happened to bb’s parents, we know what happened to samatoki’s and dice’s. between bat’s general ‘our important central blood family figures are dead’ theme and kuukou’s own ‘separation from bonds’ theme that tells me kuukou’s mom is either dead (and/)or somewhere else

kuukou being adopted i think can work if kuukou’s mama abandoned kuukou at a very young age, and kuukou eventually finds meaning ig in buddhism, causing a rebirth (reincarnation if you will lol) within himself, hence the born to the temple thing he’s said and that’s also a common sentiment with various religions like with christianity/catholicism, a religion kuukou actually has been connected to via the hella awesome banquet mv

I’ve been wondering for a little while that if The Lamb exists in your AU, because The Lamb is an important part to the TBOI lore, so do you have plans to introduce them or not?

Okayyyyy first of all sorry for taking so long to reply 😭 my life is a bit hectic right now now but hopefully it’ll get better next week agh. Thank you for being patient with me.

As for the question itself… bosses in general are a bit tricky to me, since the AU itself takes place in the real world, so I always struggle a little bit when trying to place them in the universe. Sure, I could always say they’re just a demon in hell, but as you say, the Lamb is a very important part of tboi lore. So I tried to come up with something worthy of them.

SO I thought about making them one of the faces of Lucifer.

Lucifer has 3 faces (woah a Divine Comedy reference!!!) and I though it would be cool if one of them was the Lamb (I’m still unsure about the other two. If you guys have any suggestions I’m open to them) buuuut this also runs into the problem of taking the Lamb too far from the themes of the game. Is Lamb even the Lamb anymore if they’re not connected to Isaac? I’ll let you decide.

This is something I struggle with sometimes, because Isaac’s story and his vision of Christianity is the core theme of the game, but since he’s not the main focus of my story, a lot of characters and design are just kinda there, if that makes sense. I hope this was satisfying enough though! I can finally say Lucifer has a design

Since  we  are  incorporating  stars  into  Sigyn's  lore  ,  one  of  the  ways  I  found  to  do  this  involves  her  appearance.   Through  my  research  ,  it  was  brought  to  my  attention  that  stars  change  appearance  and  color  over  time  due  to  their  life  cycle.         Because  I  enjoy  the  idea  of  muses  that  can  subtly  change  their  appearance  ,  I've  decided  to  incorporate  this  into  my  lore  for  Sigyn  ,  with  a  few  differences  in  order  to  make  it  work  with  my  story.

𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄:   i  will  be  selective  on  which  verses  i  use  this  for  ,  but  it  will  be  a  permanent  piece  of  lore  to  her  main  canon.

Sigyn's  original  face  claim  ,  is  Emilia  Clarke.   This  face  claim  takes  up  the  time  of  her  lift  up  until  the  events  of  Infinity  War.         When  referring  to  comic  or  norse  verses  it'd  due  to  either  Loki's  death  or  the  punishment  of  Jarn.   Throughout  this  time  ,  she  has  this  more  youthful  visage  ,  with  more  tendency  to  a  brighter  side  to  her.   She's  not  been  so  jaded  by  the  line  of  events  in  quick  succession  leading  to  the  massive  trauma  she  underwent.

Sigyn's  next  appearance  ,  Emma  D'Arcy.   Whereas  stars  simply  change  appearance  based  on  their  life  cycle  ,         in  Sigyn's  case  we  will  be  basing  this  off  of  a  massive  amount  of  stress.   With  the  loss  of  her  husband  ,  all  her  children  taken  by  Thanos'  plan  ,  and  the  death  of  one  of  her  dragons  in  the  process  of  the  fight  against  the  Titan  ,  she  fell  into  a  massive  state  of  depression.   She  would  work  through  this  over  the  next  year  after  ,         but  not  without  an  effect  on  her  that  would  be  everlasting.   By  the  time  her  children  were  returned  to  her  ,  and  her  husband  back  from  his  journey  back  to  the  world  of  the  living  ,         she  would  not  look  like  that  woman  who  had  been  mother  and  partner  to  those  in  her  life.   While  eventually  she  came  back  to  her  full  power  ,  for  about  six  months  found  her  ability  to  use  magic  being  extremely  lessened.

What's in a Name?

Enjoy some bonkers naming conventions from some society I made up—Wraaklings, a bloodline-obsessed, semi-matriarchal culture. ------------------------------------------------------------------------

Blood and lineage are everything to a Wraakling. That much is obvious—though outsiders might not realize it at first. Wraaklings are trained to give their full name on first introduction, and it’s usually a mouthful. What seems unusual to others is, to them, a declaration of pedigree, lineage, and social position. Every piece of it matters.

Let’s break one down:

Aa-Rahlyi Vurvrath’ii Yentoling’a va Cuusuun sen Santhresh

Aa-Rahlyi is the individual’s name. It’s meant to be unique—chosen more for how it sounds than what it means.

Vurvrath’ii is his mother’s name, with ‘ii’ marking him as her child. As Wraakling society is matriarchal, the mother’s name comes first.

Yentoling’a is his father’s name. ‘Ling’ marks lineage from the father, and ‘a’ at the end indicates the parent is not Wraakling, marking Aa-Rahlyi as a half-blood.

va Cuusuun denotes his clan, named for the clan’s most recent Bride—a Wraakling chosen by the god Wraak to carry divine lineage. (Yes, that’s where the name Wraakling comes from.)

sen Santhresh identifies origin—Santhresh being the homeland or branch territory of the clan.

If both parents were Wraakling, the clan name would come from the side with the more recent Bride. And if someone mispronounces a full name? That’s not just awkward—it’s rude.

Life is complicated, and some happenings require specific notation. For example, perhaps a child’s parent is unknown. Maybe both died away from the clan, or maybe it was the result of a drunken hook-up where no names were exchanged.

Having an unknown parent is considered a minor disgrace, both to the child and their known parent (if any). It marks the union that made them as ill-conceived—breeding without selecting a worthy partner.

Aa-Rahlyi Vurvrath’ii Ashling’a va Cuusuun sen Sandthresh — A half-blood child with a questionable lineage. “Ash” marks an unknown parent, with its name location and attachments noting the gender.

Another variant occurs when children not of the race are adopted into the clan—usually brought in alongside a non-Wraakling parent, though foundlings and orphans find their way into Wraakling society as well.

Mary Elizabeth’ii’a Soorling’a Aa-Rahlyiling’vak va Cuusuun’vak — A non-Wraakling girl adopted into Clan Cuusuun.

Soor means “ not worth tracking”—a disavowed, discarded line. A discarded father in this case.

Elizabeth’ii’a marks her mother as a non-Wraakling whom has joined the clan.

Aa-Rahlyiling’vak shows that Aa-Rahlyi (a Wraakling) adopted her as father. All adoptees have a Wraakling patron, or parent noted in their name, ‘vak’ marking them as ‘accepted by’.

va Cuusuun’vak indicates she was also accepted into the clan, though not born to it.

In the case of an orphan or foundling, elements of unknown parentage and adoption blend together.

Mary Ash’ii’a Ashling’a Aa-Rahlyiling’vak va Cuusuun’vak — Mary, a non-Wraakling. Unknown mother. Unknown father. Adopted by Aa-Rahlyi into Clan Cuusuun.

These children are not looked down upon, but they are marked. Their names tell the truth of their origin—and it’s up to them to build the legacy that follows.

I am SO glad you asked :D!

So I was originally going to like make some cool art for this but the time commitment of getting an education said no to that idea, so! Long text post! [I have finished typing this out and it's so long I'm sorry]

Ok so Squeepy! (They were originally going to have a not Silly name but Squeepy stuck and it’s too late to change it now) Squeepy lived in like a high-fantasy, sort of DND-ish world? I was originally going to use them for a campaign but that didn’t really work out……….. maybe I should tell the story of the Nightmare Campaign some day………….

Anyways Squeepy was kidnapped off of the streets at a very young age by an Evil Murder Cult. They weren’t even really a cult they were just a band of mercenaries that taught its members really fucked up things like “Only the Strong Survive” and “Murder is Fine if you’re Ridding the World of Someone who is Less Valuable Than You”. Squeepy grew up being taught that the cult were heroes working to create a better world. This was really just like… evil cult logic to justify murder but Squeepy didn’t really have a way of knowing that.

Only full members of the cult went on missions to actually murder people. The trainees sort of knew what was happening and sort of didn't. The cult was very vague about what its actual purpose was.

The cult training was like intense and traumatizing for children. The instructors were determined to create the perfect warriors without worrying about what grueling training and getting beat up every day does to a child's mental health. The training prioritized speed and stealth, so Squeepy is extremely proficient with hand-to-hand combat and small blades. The highlighter yellow hair did unfortunately hinder Squeepy's potential for stealth :(

Eventually the trainees were old enough to start going on expeditions out into the world and young Squeepy was confused by how people seemed to… hate them? The cult had a very distinctive hooded uniform, and when people saw coming they would either just glare or like run away. That didn’t make any sense! They were heroes!

At this point squeepy still didn’t know that the cult was evil. They had all of one (1) friend who kind of did though, and Squeepy slowly started realizing that maybe being in the cult wasn’t such a good thing. This friend sort of taught Squeepy actual morals (not really they were both children who had only ever been taught fucked up cult things) and for most of their lives they only had each other.

All of this came to a climax when one day while the recruits were out on an expedition to the town. A giant crashed its way into the village and destroyed a lot of things and killed a lot of people. Luckily a group of adventurers was passing through and slayed the giant, saving everyone. Squeepy watched how the people thanked the adventurers and how they treated them like real heroes. People never looked at them (cult members) that way... Squeepy learned two things that day:

1. Adventurers = heroes.

2. Heroes always protect each other.

Squeepy silently started glorifying the idea of becoming an adventurer- of traveling across the land saving people. Maybe some day, the townspeople would look at Squeepy the way they had looked at the adventurers? Squeepy was too brainwashed to really entertain this idea or act on it, though….

Over time, Squeepy's friend got more and more angry with the cult. The friend (who I will also actually flesh out at some point I swear) started talking about how the cult was wrong, and about leaving. Squeepy didn't know what to do. Their friend was pretty much their whole world, but the cult was.... good, right?

Eventually it was time for Squeepy's class of recruits to take the final test to become actual members of the cult. (Squeepy is around 20 at this point.) Nobody knew what this test actually was, only that it... changed people.

Squeepy and their friend made a promise to each other the night before the test. No matter what happened, they wouldn't become what the cult wanted. They wouldn't become monsters. Squeepy didn't really trust the cult at this point, but also didn't know anything else, so they made the promise.

The test was simple. In the room there was an instructor, and there was a man tied up. He looked scared. There was a knife in Squeepy's hand.

"Do it," the instructor said. Squeepy knew how to kill people in theory. They had never actually... done it before. This couldn't be right, could it? Heroes protected others! Squeepy was a hero! But... they didn't have a choice! People who failed this test... they didn't come back.

Squeepy passed the test. Their hands only started shaking after they were covered in blood.

Later that day, as everyone was celebrating. Squeepy was Experiencing Anguish and also couldn't find their friend. They found out that their friend had failed the test.

Squeepy managed to escape that night. They had nothing left. They had become exactly what the cult wanted them to be, and without their friend, there was nothing left keeping them there.

Now Squeepy travels the world as an adventurer. They are largely incompetent at everything, mostly because they insist on using a spear to fight because it is the exact opposite of what they were trained in at the cult, and they desperately want to be the opposite of what the cult told them. Squeepy is trying to be a hero, and save people. To try to make up for what they did.

Unfortunately the cult has left Squeepy with a very questionable moral compass. They are completely against murder, but don't really see the problem with beating people up or destruction of property. Basically just a silly goober trying to be good while also not knowing that arson is bad.

Idk how to end this but this got so so long..... thanks for giving me an excuse to just ramble on about my special little guy!

Some character development questions:

Eden gets to fight one person from any era, peice of media, or other work of fiction. Do they take the opportunity? If so who do they choose to fight and why?

How did Az meet Mary Magdelene (the first iteration)? Was he in goat form at the time or did he choose that form later? If so why did he choose that form?

Also, in reference to Maggy's flashback dream, did Yeshua specifically reference Az as the good hands he was leaving her in?

Of your characters which is most likely to cheat at card games and who figures out the cheater first? (My guess is Eden and Cain fill both roles and end up quietly reenacting the spiderman pointing meme with their body language and facial expressions)

What was Edith like pre salt lick incident? (if you have any lore on that)

Finally: what makes each member of the au happiest?

Omg these are a lot of questions so this will be suuuuuper long lmao hope you don’t mind! But I know you wouldn’t lol. Anyway.

Eden is mostly a pacifist (or calls themselves one anyway) so I don’t think they’d try to fight anyone except maybe Azazel if he got on their nerves too much. And even then, they would mostly try to intimidate him into submission. As for any historical/fictional figure…. Uuuuuh probably nobody? Their main thing is just standing in the background watching. They didn’t lift a finger to help Azazel when the Nephilim were killed so I doubt they’d take action against anyone really. They did intervene in Eve and Adam’s first life, but only to help with their farm and after that they still blended in the background. They could have helped Eve in all her various lives where she was ostracized for being a demon but they never did more than offer her shelter and sometimes drive away a couple of people.

Azazel met Magdalene when he was in goat form yes!!! I actually want to go over his backstory in the second arc of the story (and it’s also the one I’m most excited about hehehe) BUT briefly: when he got out of hell he was hella traumatised, both from his years underground at the mercy of his abusive partner and because he never really processed what happened to the Nephilim (throw in also the guilt about abandoning his daughter in hell, this man has SUFFERED) so his plan was mostly to survive amongst humans and not much else. He was also really scared about forming new connections, since every time he tried something went horribly wrong, so he chose to stay in animal form and blend into the background. Minima risk of making new friends! Life was mostly okay, until he ended up in Judas’ flock (he was a shepherd in his first life) and that’s how he started actually caring about these people. So yeah, he first met Magdalene (and Judas) in animal form BUT his first “official” introduction to Maggy happened when Judas was already dead. I actually want to showcase this in the comic sometime, or even an event if anybody asks in depth about it, but basically, after those three days, Maggy went to retrieve Judas’ body from the tree and Azazel went with her (he was basically her pet at that point? She didn’t know he was sentient) but seeing her so distraught at the sight of her beloved made him choose to reveal himself. She was so sad and desperate that she didn’t really react that much, and so he held her until she calmed down a bit. They buried Judas and after a while they fled Jerusalem together and started new life somewhere else.

And YES Yeshua was definitely referencing him!! He already knew Azazel was no ordinary goat. I think Yeshua was Azazel’s first human friend after getting out of hell, but he still asked him to keep his secret because he was afraid of causing too much trouble. Try to explain to twelve men why the son of God is friends with what looks like a demon.

As for the characters most likely to cheat at cards: Cain. Definitely Cain. Lazarus too since he’s a little shit, but he wouldn’t really notice if someone was cheating right away. Cain is the master cheater, with millennia of experience to booth. Azazel might know how to cheat at cards, but he probably only knows very old games that aren’t in use anymore. As for Eden, they don’t really have an interest in cards so they usually don’t play, but I guess they could know how to cheat if they put their mind to it? But they’d never notice anyone cheating at cards with them. Eden is, first and foremost, dumb as a rock. They might love humans, but they do not understand them. Body language, facial expressions, tone, it’s all lost on them. Just look how they handled Judas, you can’t tell me that dude has ever had a coherent thought in their whole life. If they had any money you could easily scam them out of it and they’d be none the wiser.

And now Edith time… I must admit I didn’t really think much about her, but since Lot and his family were the only ones spared from the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah… I guess she was an okay woman? Her marriage to Lot was most definitely arranged (as was the custom) but not an entirely bad one, she probably loved her daughters enough to teach them about sin and protect them, she might have had friends in Sodom and that’s why she turned around… Maybe she wanted to see her city one last time? She probably had family there too if you think about it, it made sense she would turn around even if God told her not to. Mythology is full of people who turn around when they shouldn’t.

And now the big one, which I’m going to divide into a list because I want to be neat

Isaac: I guess he’s the happiest when a good client commissions him and allows him to live his dream a little bit longer. He’s a struggling artist kinda like me lol and while he loves what he does he fears it won’t be enough to support him in the long run. He tries to not think about it. Luckily some new supernatural shenanigans are on the way to get his mind off of things!

Magdalene: learning new things and spending time with her loved ones make her happiest. They have the ability to make her feel like the best woman on earth even when she feels like a failure. And they’re always the first to hype her up. Her family is also very much up there with things that make her happy.

Judas: his lovers make him the most happy. It’s nice to be reminded you’re loved and cared for even if you feel like a failure of a human being. And while he hisses and spits like a cat at the mere thought of affection, he cherishes every moment with them always. They got him through a lot of rough times and helped him hang on just a little longer every time.

Azazel: not being in hell anymore makes him the happiest. Sure, life on Earth isn’t nice all the time, he still has to see his loved ones die over and over before him, and he needs to find them at every new iteration, but it’s still a million times better than being in hell. He’s carved himself a little place to exist on Earth and he couldn’t be happier about it.

Apollyon: Being on Earth makes him happy. He’s never seen it before and every day is a new wonder for him. And the fact that he gets to experience it with the people he loves the most is a very nice bonus.

Cain: he hasn’t felt happiness in a long time. The most he can go for is numbness, and it’s usually found at the bottom of a bottle.

Eve: she loves being an artist and her work. I think her happiest is when she gets to tattoo someone who loves her work. It feels like leaving a little piece of her with them.

Lilith: a lot of things make her happy, hanging out with her friends, the children she teaches at her kindergarten, a good meal, playing with Fwendy… she’s learned to appreciate the little things in life. I guess the “boring” times are the one where she’s the most happy, everyone is fed and there’s nothing to worry about, what’s not to love? Cain will also find a way to make her even happier but it’s a bit too early for that hehe.

Eden: Eve makes them happiest but they don’t know that yet.

Samson: he’s the happiest when he doesn’t have to think about his mother and when he’s out of the house. It’s not like he’s unhappy with her, but he’s always immensely stressed.

Lazarus: this is a tricky one, but I guess seeing his little sister growing up to be a great woman is what makes him happiest. Deep down he kinda feels like damaged goods since he’s been plagued by horrible luck since the day he was born and can’t keep a job to save his life. So he’ll do everything in his power to make Bethany happy and keep her safe, even if it means lying to her sometimes. He’s also convinced having Samson all for himself will make him happy but that’s not really what will happen.

Bethany: as of right now, her faith in God and His plan is what keeps her going, so I guess she’s happiest when she’s praying. It’s almost like meditation for her, a couple of minutes where the only things existing are her and God. It’s a nice little break from the stress of her life and leaves all charged up to face a new day.

Jacob: Esau and Lazarus makes him the happiest. They’re the two most important people in his life and he loves hanging out with them. In his ideal world, they’d all live in the same house and have wacky sitcom adventures. Samson can come along too I guess.

Esau: he’s the happiest when he’s away from Jacob and able to listen to his own thoughts. He strives for independence and has been trying to distance himself from Jacob for years at this point, to the point of going behind his brother’s back to go and live alone. He’s currently planning on moving away from Jacob, he’s already found an apartment. It’s not like he doesn’t love his brother, far from it, it’s just that he feels stunted with always having to care for him, and he thinks Jacob should do some growing on his own. They’re both 30, and as much as they love eachother, it’s time for them to become men.

my current project: jump forever!

this is the first of those scheduled posts i mentioned earlier!!! i figured i would start by talking about my current project - that way i can start posting updates about it without confusing you, Michael. The next post is gonna be about the beginning of this whole Godot thing i've been on, and then i'm thinking about maybe doing a Before Godot post as a bonus once i've talked about all my godot stuff (i love saying this as if anybody cares (besides you, Michael)). setting all that aside, though: this one's gonna need some backstory, so you should buckle in.

around this time last year, me and my little cousin (he's still in high school, but we've always been pretty close) got really competitive about a little game called Jump Forever. it's a side minigame from WarioWare Mega Microgames (the GBA one) where you just jump over a little rope until you fuck up. it's really fucking fun as an addictive little mobile game, and with a quick lil emulator it was one. thus, the addiction began.

truth be told, the phase last year didn't even last that long, but i had a long bus ride a couple of weeks ago and found myself opening the GBA emulator on my phone to pass the time. that led to a little bit of playing at home, which led to beating my cousin's score, which led to getting even more into the game than i was before. as our scores get higher, we've turned to better controllers than a phone touch screen for serious record attempts - i use a ds lite i had lying around (that i reshelled! it was very fun) and he emulates on pc with a controller (i think). this got me thinking about a potential "definitive edition" of the game - probably still on mobile, but with controller support, better touch controls (the game only needs <-, ->, and A!), faster resets, selectable skins, and maybe even unlockable skins? of course, when i finished my work on fnaf (ooh foreshadowing), my sights were immediately set on a Jump Forever remake.

with all that said, welcome to the game as it currently stands! at the moment, i've got wario, the rope swingers, and the score all just about set up, with one exception; the characters have collision, the rope swings (at varying speeds, even!), and wario's speed and physics feel very accurate - but i'm still working on the ai (if you can call it that) of the rope guys as they walk back and forth. i want it to work exactly the same way as it does in the original but i always overthink random mechanics like this. hopefully the next update i give will be about how i cracked it! even if the implementation ends up jank, though, it wouldn't be the first: the rope guys check if wario is too close to them to make it over the rope with an Area2D that just checks for wario when the rope hits the ground. it works! i could just like check wario's position in the code (and it'd probably be way more efficient), but this way just... works.

i still have a buncha crap i still gotta implement before the game's even really playable - the walking ai, the title screen, the little "Ready?" animation, etc. - but that's only the beginning of my work. firstly, i'm probably gonna enlist chloe (oooh foreshadowing) to help me out by drawing some new assets (if she's free, it is finals season), and then changing the game's native resolution from 240x160 (the GBA screen) to something not fucking insane. i've got "reworking all the sprites into easy to read spritesheets" on my to-do list, and after that, making the new assets (and then maybe the skins?) will be as easy as drag & drop. once it's got the new assets and all the polish that needs to come with a shiny new resolution, i'm gonna transition into the next phase - researching how to release a game!!!

[hi, not to ruin my own amazing transition but: it's 5am and i'm running back to edit this because i completely forgot to mention that i have currently implemented a 2 frame input delay on all inputs, because that's how the emulator appears to behave when i go frame by frame. every single day i rethink this decision more and more. surely there's no way that's how it's supposed to be, right? but i feel so weird changing it now!!! i definitely fucking have to though. next time i work on it. ok anyways]

now. i've posted games to itch.io before. but even then, i kind of fucked it up (i could never get the resolution of my web games to work right???) - so it's no surprise i've always been completely daunted by the idea of "releasing a game". when you post it on real stores, that's when it becomes... real. i'm excited about the new challenges it'll pose, though! now, a mobile release means a couple of things - bite sized fun, simple progression, and fun customization. i've already got the first part nailed down, and i figured i could nail the other 2 at once with a currency system based on how many points you get (or maybe even an xp system? that goes up 1 for each jump? maybe even both???) and skins (purchasable with said currency) that let you customize the player, rope swingers, background, and maybe even the rope itself.

pictured above is my stupid ass skins mockup (i literally just made this). the rope is rainbow, the background has a snow effect and a bunch of snow on the trees/ground (isn't it great?), wario is a lil version of the rope guys, and the rope guys have santa hats. i'm not sure how many different ropes you could really make with how i'm planning the rope to move, so i'll probably end up prototyping the graphics with chloe to figure out how to lay out the sprite sheets, and if they should actually have a seperate hand-grabbing-the-rope sprite for skin purposes. it'll definitely make things really confusing, but if i go for a mobile release i don't want to run ads, and so a currency you can buy with real money (and maybe one or two goofy supporter skins that cost real money, like a solid gold guy or something, as a form of donation) is a good way to make a lil bit of money from people who like the game.

all of this is fun to think about, but it's important to remember that the next thing i have to do is that walking ai. i've gotta Make The Fucking Game before i can do all this crazy other bullshit. i'm sure the ui design for all this is gonna be soooo fun, but i need a game to attach it to first :p

this went on reeeally long but i figure if this is a dev diary or w/e it's gonna end up running long no matter what, and the more info, the more i have to look back on fondly and say "oh shit, i know exactly when this was!", which is kind of the end goal of the project. of course, these incredibly long posts about shit that only matters to me are also incredible content for you, Michael, so i'm sure you're just eating this shit up. enjoy, you weird little man.
