Next-Gen Thermal Solutions: Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers

As industries across the globe push for energy efficiency, compact solutions, and easy maintenance, Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers (PHEs) have emerged as the go-to technology in thermal exchange systems. These versatile units are engineered to transfer heat between two fluids without mixing them—making them ideal for applications in power plants, food processing, chemical refineries, HVAC systems, and more.
Unlike traditional shell-and-tube exchangers, PHEs are designed with a series of corrugated metal plates that create turbulence and maximize surface area. This translates to superior heat transfer, smaller footprints, and easy scalability, making PHEs a smart investment for both retrofit projects and new plant builds.
How Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers Work
The construction of a PHE involves multiple thin plates—usually made of stainless steel or titanium—arranged in a frame with gaskets or brazing. Fluids flow in alternating channels, with hot and cold streams separated by each plate. The corrugation of the plates induces turbulent flow even at low Reynolds numbers, dramatically enhancing heat transfer efficiency while reducing fouling and pressure drop.
There are three common types of plate heat exchangers:
Gasketed Plate Heat Exchangers – Ideal for processes requiring frequent cleaning or flexible operation.
Brazed Plate Heat Exchangers – Compact and maintenance-free, commonly used in HVAC and refrigeration.
Welded Plate Heat Exchangers – Suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications where gaskets are unsuitable.
Market Growth and Industry Trends
The global Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers Market is projected to grow significantly, driven by decarbonization goals, rising energy costs, and demand for clean energy technologies. The market is expected to reach USD 10.50 billion by 2030, growing at a CAGR of 7.8% during the forecast period.
Key market trends include:
Shift toward renewable energy integration – PHEs are essential in geothermal and solar thermal systems for efficient heat recovery.
Growth in food & beverage processing – Hygienic design and CIP (Clean-In-Place) compatibility make PHEs crucial for pasteurization, brewing, and dairy processing.
Expansion of district heating & cooling networks – Particularly in Europe and Asia, where governments are investing in sustainable urban infrastructure.
Rising demand for modularity – Manufacturers and utilities prefer solutions that are easy to expand or service without major system downtime.
Leading Manufacturers and Innovations
Several global players dominate the Plate & Frame Heat Exchangers landscape, each bringing specialized solutions and cutting-edge R&D:
Alfa Laval (Sweden) – A pioneer in thermal technology, offering gasketed, brazed, and fusion-bonded PHEs for nearly every industry.
GEA Group (Germany) – Known for hygienic PHEs and energy-saving designs tailored to food, pharma, and marine sectors.
SPX FLOW (US) – Offers industrial PHEs with robust construction and easy maintenance for oil & gas and power sectors.

High Viscosity in Lubrication: Benefits, Applications & Best Practices
Introduction to High Viscosity
Viscosity is the most crucial property of a lubricant, defining how well it performs under different operating conditions. It determines a lubricant’s ability to flow, resist shear, and provide an effective lubrication film between moving parts.
In many industrial applications, high-viscosity lubricants are essential for ensuring: ✔ Reduced friction and wear ✔ Better load-bearing performance ✔ Protection against extreme pressure and heat
High-viscosity oils and greases are widely used in heavy-duty machinery, particularly in gearboxes, bearings, turbines, and hydraulic systems that operate under extreme loads and harsh conditions. Understanding how viscosity impacts lubrication is crucial to maintaining machinery efficiency and longevity.
The Science Behind Viscosity in Lubrication
What is Viscosity?
Viscosity is the measure of a fluid’s resistance to flow. In simpler terms:
Low-viscosity oils flow easily and are suitable for high-speed machinery.
High-viscosity oils are thicker, providing better lubrication film strength and wear resistance.
The Viscosity Index determines how much a lubricant’s viscosity changes with temperature. A high viscosity index lubricant maintains stability across temperature variations, making it suitable for extreme environments.
The Role of Viscosity in High-Velocity Applications
Kinematic Viscosity vs. Dynamic Viscosity
Viscosity is a critical property that affects high-velocity lubrication. There are two primary types:
Kinematic viscosity measures how a fluid resists motion under gravitational forces. It is vital in fluid flow studies.
Dynamic viscosity refers to a fluid’s resistance to shear stress, influencing drag and aerodynamic behavior.
Reynolds Number and Its Influence on High Velocity
The Reynolds number determines whether fluid flow is laminar or turbulent. It is a dimensionless quantity used to predict flow patterns at different velocities.
Efficient fluid dynamics
Reduced turbulence
Lower energy loss due to drag
Impact on Fluid Flow and Fluid Dynamics
In high-velocity lubrication, selecting the right viscosity ensures minimal drag while maintaining a strong lubrication film. Low viscosity improves fluid flow, whereas higher dynamic viscosity enhances load-bearing capacity.
Why is High Viscosity Important?
In high-load, slow-speed applications, metal surfaces are under extreme stress. A high-viscosity lubricant prevents direct metal-to-metal contact, reducing friction, wear, and energy loss.
Key Benefits of High-Viscosity Lubricants
1. Improved Wear Protection
High-viscosity lubricants form a thicker protective layer, minimizing wear on components like gears, bearings, and hydraulic pistons. This ensures longer machine life and reduced maintenance costs.
12. Superior Load-Carrying Capacity
Industrial machinery often experiences heavy shock loads. High-viscosity gear oils and EP (Extreme Pressure) greases prevent breakdown under high stress, maintaining smooth operation even in harsh conditions.
3. Stronger Lubrication Film
A high-viscosity lubricant maintains a robust oil film, preventing surface fatigue and scuffing in applications like wind turbine gearboxes, mining equipment, and steel mills.
4. Resistance to Extreme Conditions
Industries like power generation, construction, and metallurgy expose lubricants to high temperatures, pressure, and contaminants. High-viscosity synthetic oils resist thermal degradation, oxidation, and sludge formation, ensuring optimal performance.
Applications of High-Viscosity Lubricants
1. Industrial Gearboxes
Gearboxes operate under high torque and continuous load, requiring high-viscosity gear oils to:
Prevent gear tooth wear
Reduce micro pitting and scuffing
Ensure efficient power transmission
2. Heavy-Duty Bearings
High-viscosity greases are essential for slow-moving, high-load bearings found in:
Steel plants
Mining conveyors
Cement kilns
These lubricants provide superior adhesion, reducing bearing failures and replacement costs.
3. High-Temperature Equipment
In power plants, refineries, and aerospace applications, machinery operates at extreme temperatures. Synthetic high-viscosity oils prevent:
Thermal breakdown
Sludge formation
Oxidation-related failures
4. Slow-Speed Machinery
For applications like open gears, worm gears, and heavy presses, high-viscosity lubricants improve:
Film thickness to prevent metal-to-metal contact
Load distribution to reduce stress concentration
Challenges of High-Viscosity Lubrication
Despite their benefits, high-viscosity lubricants have some challenges:
1. Energy Efficiency Concerns
Thicker oils increase fluid resistance, leading to higher energy consumption in hydraulic and circulation systems.
2. Cold-Start Issues
In low temperatures, high-viscosity lubricants become stiff, affecting:
Pump ability
Startup lubrication
Oil circulation
Solution:Use multi-grade or synthetic oils that provide better cold-flow properties.
How to Select the Right High-Viscosity Lubricant
Choosing the correct viscosity is critical for optimal machinery performance. Consider these key factors:1. Operating TemperatureFor high temperatures: Choose a high-viscosity index lubricant to prevent thinning. For cold environments: Use synthetic lubricants for better flowability. 2. Load and Speed ConditionsHigh load, slow speed: Require higher viscosity for better film strength.Low load, high speed: Need lower viscosity to reduce frictional losses. 3. Manufacturer RecommendationsAlways refer to OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) guidelines for optimal performance. 4. Lubricant AdditivesLook for:Anti-wear (AW) additives for reducing frictionExtreme Pressure (EP) additives for heavy loadsOxidation inhibitors to enhance lubricant life
Conclusion
High-viscosity lubricants play a crucial role in protecting industrial machinery, extending service life, and enhancing performance. They offer better film strength, wear resistance, and thermal stability, making them ideal for gearboxes, bearings, and heavy-duty applications. However, selecting the right viscosity grade is key to balancing energy efficiency and lubrication performance. Industries must consider operating conditions, manufacturer recommendations, and additive formulations to achieve optimal equipment reliability. The potential to kinetic energy conversion takes place in the stagnation point; the point situated at the Pitot’s tube entrance, as see in the schematic diagram below, Figure 2 below. A pressure higher or greater than the free-stream pressure, that is dynamic, results from the conversion kinematic to potential. This "static" pressure is obtained by comparing it to the dynamic pressure of flow with the differential manometer (Çengel and Cimbala, 2014). The conversion of the resulting differential pressure measurements into respective fluid velocity heavily depends on the specified fluid’s flow regime a Pitot tube is measuring (Spurk and Aksel, 2008). In case of an incompressible flow, below is the Bernoulli equation describing the relationship between the pressure and velocity along the streamline: The simple pitot tube is comprised of an opening at the tip where pressure can be compared with the atmospheric pressure, or the pressure at pipe through that the flow passes (Boyes, 2010). The Pitot tube is when taking the local velocity measurements at the given point of the flow. The speed of airflow is determined when there is change in pressure between the two holes found in the Pitot tube; known via head (Kundu, Cohen and Dowling, 2012). Therfoe the speed of airflow is calculated using Bernoulli’s equation: The purpose of this laboratory was to analyze jet pumps using knowledge of fluid mechanics learned in the course. Assumptions of steady flow and no friction were applied and these theoretical results will be compared to the experimental results obtained by measuring the flow at the end of the jet pump. The SI units were used during the analysis for easy conversion among different variable. Head was directly proportional to actual pressure, high heads translated into high velocities; the fast jet had a large head drop. The pitot tubes are greatly affected by the Reynolds number when operating at low fluid velocities. Pitot tube’s accuracy Read the full article

Theoretical Study of Heat Transfer in Straight Round Pipes with Periodically Arranged Surface Flow Turbulators of Semicircular Cross-Section Depending on the Prandtl Number for Various Geometric and Mode Parameters
Theoretical Study of Heat Transfer in Straight Round Pipes with Periodically Arranged Surface Flow Turbulators of Semicircular Cross-Section Depending on the Prandtl Number for Various Geometric and Mode Parameters in Biomedical Journal of Scientific & Technical Research
The dependence of the integral heat transfer distribution on the Prandtl number for turbulent convective heat exchange in a pipe with a sequence of periodic protrusions of semicircular geometry is investigated by a computational method based on the numerical solution of the system of Reynolds equations closed using the Menter shear stress transfer model and the energy equation on multi-scale intersecting structured grids. The calculation was carried out on the basis of a theoretical method based on the solution of the Reynolds equations by a factorized finite-volume method, closed using the Menter shear stress transfer model, and the energy equation on multi-scale intersecting structured grids (FCOM). The calculations carried out in the work showed that with an increase in the Prandtl number at small Reynolds numbers, first there is a noticeable increase in the relative heat exchange, and then the relative heat exchange changes less, and for small steps there is an increase in it, for medium - almost stabilization, for large - a slight decrease. At large Reynolds numbers, the relative heat transfer decreases with an increase in the Prandtl number with its further stabilization. The study analyzed the calculated dependences of the relative heat transfer on the Prandtl number Rg at different values of the relative height of the turbulator h/D, the relative step between the turbulators t/D, at different values of the Reynolds number Re, all other things being equal, which showed qualitative and quantitative changes in the calculated parameters. The analytical justification of the calculated regularities obtained is that for small Reynolds numbers, the height of the turbulator is less, and for large ones-less than the height of the wall layer, therefore, only the flow core is turbulized, which only leads to an increase in hydraulic resistance and to an exaggeration of heat transfer. In the work, on the basis of limited computational material, a noticeable decrease in the level of heat transfer intensification for small Prandtl numbers was theoretically confirmed. The obtained results of intensified heat transfer in the region of low Prandtl numbers justify the promising development of research in this direction. The theoretical data obtained in this work determined the regularities of relative heat transfer in a wide range of Prandtl numbers, including in those areas where experimental material does not yet exist.

Microfluidic: Advances in Microfabricated Systems Open Doors to New Scientific Discoveries

Microfabricateds refers to the behavior, precise control and manipulation of fluids that are geometrically constrained to a small, typically sub-millimeter, scale. At this scale, fluid flow is governed by low Reynolds number fluid flow dynamics and is amenable to precise analytical description. By leveraging microfabrication techniques originally developed for the microelectronics industry, microfabricated systems can be manufactured with precise microscopic features to control flows on sub-millimeter length scales. Early Development of Microfluidic Technology
The roots of microfabricateds can be traced back to the late 1980s and early 1990s. Researchers worked to develop new specialized fabrication techniques, adapted from microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) technology, that would allow the precise construction of microscopic fluid flow channels and reservoirs. Initial applications focused on developing "lab-on-a-chip" micro total analysis systems (μTAS) that could perform routine analytical techniques like chromatography, electrophoresis and chemical reactions on a single integrated microchip. This promised to enable miniaturization, automation, reduced sample/reagent consumption and cost advantages over traditional benchtop instruments. Biological and Medical Applications Emerge
As fabrication techniques advanced, new applications emerged in areas like biotechnology, biological assay development and medical diagnostics where tight control over fluid flows and precise fluid handling was paramount. Microfabricated systems enabled controlled culturing and analysis of cells at the single-cell level. Integrated "organ-on-a-chip" systems that model human organ and body functions using tissue-engineered "microphysiological systems" also began emerging. Notable applications include "lung-on-a-chip" and "liver-on-a-chip" models to study disease pathogenesis and perform drug testing. Portable microfabricated POC (point-of-care) diagnostic devices for applications like glucose monitoring, infectious disease detection, and environmental monitoring were also developed. Enabling Technologies Drive Continued Growth
Advances in enabling technologies like soft lithography, 3D printing, contact/contactless handling of liquids at the Microfluidic and new detection schemes are continually expanding the frontiers of microfabricateds. Soft lithography allows rapid, inexpensive manufacture of elastomeric microfabricated devices and enables novel applications like lipid bilayer formation. 3D printing enables custom, on-demand fabrication of complex microfabricated device designs. Optical tweezers, dielectrophoresis and acoustic manipulation techniques provide contactless control over fluids and particles in microfabricated chips. These techniques are unlocking new applications in domains like stem cell engineering, molecular biology and biomanufacturing. Microfabricateds in Drug Development and High-throughput Screening
Microfabricated systems are becoming valuable tools in pharmaceutical R&D. Their abilities to perform highly-parallel chemical and biological assays at micro-volume scales has enabled ultra high-throughput screening of thousands to millions of compounds per day in the search for new drug leads. Microfabricated assays allow much smaller volumes of expensive reagents to be used compared to standard microtiter plate-based assays. Complex 3D tissue models and organs-on-chips are also being used to more accurately mimic in vivo drug responses during pre-clinical testing, potentially reducing late-stage drug failures. Continuous microfabricated processing also enables inline analysis and characterization of drug structures, screens and interactions with targets. These capabilities are accelerating drug discovery timelines and reducing costs. Applications in Chemical Synthesis and Process Intensification
Beyond biomedical uses, microfabricateds is finding applications in diverse chemical fields including flow chemistry, process intensification and materials synthesis. Controlled, rapid mixing at the microscale enables unique reaction conditions and kinetics leading to enhanced or unprecedented chemical transformations. Continuous flow microreactors show advantages over batch reactors by enabling reactions under extreme conditions like high temperature/pressure. Microreaction technology enables scalable, modular “factory-on-a-chip” systems for production of commodity and fine chemicals. Microchannels may also serve as micro- and nano-scale templates or scaffolds for manufacturing novel structured materials with complex hierarchical architectures. Intensified mass and heat transfer in microchannels creates opportunities for more efficient chemical processing and separations.
Since the early demonstrations of microfabricated “lab-on-a-chip” concepts in the 1980s/90s, the field has grown exponentially as fabrication methods have matured and new applications have emerged. Today, microfabricateds is a vibrant multidisciplinary research area spanning physics, engineering, materials science, chemistry and biology. Commercialization of microfabricated-based POC diagnostic devices, high-throughput screening systems and continuous microreaction technologies has begun in sectors like healthcare, pharmaceuticals, chemicals and more.
further integration of micro/nano-scale manipulation and sensing components with fluidics promises to revolutionize fields like synthetic biology, tissue engineering and environmental monitoring. Microfabricateds will likely play an increasing role in sectors from personalized medicine to high-value manufacturing. Its capabilities for controlling fluids and interfaces at the smallest scales will continue enabling new scientific discoveries across many domains.

Many places have begun to regulate short-stay rentals to encourage owners to return their properties to the long-term rental market.
Nicole Gurran, a professor of urban and regional planning at Sydney University, has been studying this for almost a decade said the link has been well established.
"There's robust research evidence now internationally that the more short-term rentals in an area, the tighter a rental market, and you see that tight rental market flow on in terms of higher rents and higher house prices," she told 7.30.
"The research evidence shows too, that when you take short-term rentals out of the market and return them back to the long-term rental supply, that rents also fall in an area."
The short-stay companies like Airbnb and Stayz believe they've become an easy target and are a scapegoat for more the complex long-term issues that contribute to housing availability.
From Stayz:
"...it's important to remember that regulating short-term rental accommodation in isolation will not solve the housing crisis."
To which the world has responded:
BULLSHIT
Here's the proof:
"
THE NUMBER OF short-term Airbnbs available in New York City has dropped 70 percent after the city began enforcing a new law requiring short-term rental operators to register their homes. There are thousands more listings that could be unregistered.
August: 22,000 NYC listings
September: 6,841 NYC listings
Some short-term listings have been switched to long-term listings,
The number of long-term rentals jumped by about 11,000 to a total of 32,612 from August 4 to September 5.
"
That uptick in long-term rentals is exactly the behavior NYC wanted to see.
Good for you NYC!
Housing is for people. Not for investment.
As for Airbnb and Stayz who have desperately tried to spin this debate as though they are simply scapegoats for bad government planning - we can all clearly see that these companies have ALWAYS been part of the problem.
Can you imagine an arsonist or a murderer putting up such a ridiculous defense when all the evidence points to their guilt?
When a tobacco company is found to be selling products that cause cancer, or a chemical company is found to be polluting the local aquifer and poisoning nearby residents, when a big pharma company is found to be paying doctors to over-prescribe addictive opioids - when the court of public opinion finally sees the evidence that those companies are at fault - those companies have to pay.
And in those cases where RJ Reynolds, Dow Chemicals, and Purdue Pharma were found guilty - NONE of them were so pathetic as to try to play it off like they are just a scapegoat.
That's how pathetic Airbnb and Stayz look right now.
Worse than Big Tobacco.
Worse than Big Pharma.
Airbnb / Stayz are at the root of a failed experiment that has distorted the housing market over the past 10 years and they need to be stopped.
Forcing low and middle income people and families out of long-term housing, forcing countless others to pay obscene increases in rent due to lack of supply, pushing people to live out of their cars or on the streets.
These companies have caused untold suffering and mental anguish - many of those impacted likely resorting to drugs/alcohol or self-harm to escape the pressures.
Yet Airbnb / Stayz claim to be unfairly demonized in this story?
Fuck that noise.
Take em down.

Reputation - Chris Evans [Headcanon]
pairing: Chris Evans x swift!singer!reader
summary: a look through your relationship with Chris while you are in a low point of your professional life.
a/n: Tumblr crashed and I have to rewrite it :/ You can now find Lover (part 2).
Feedback, comments, likes, and reblogs are always appreciated <3
Reputation is how you two met. Flashback when you met me your buzz cut and my hair bleached. You were still with your ex when you attended the Met Gala and met Chris. Ryan Reynolds introduced him to you after dinner was done.
You should take it as a compliment that I got drunk and made fun of the way you talk. You were talking and drinking with him, no sight of your boyfriend. You made fun of his Boston accent and he, as payback, made fun of your yellow baby chicken hair, you both laughed it off due to the alcohol in your systems. You left a bit after and went home to your cats.
You and your ex broke up two weeks later after realizing you wanted different things for your future. It was okay, it wasn't anything really serious so you wrote about it in your diary and kept going on with your life.
You signed your new contract with a new discography after differences with the previous one and had a celebratory dinner at Blake's place.
Then, a few days later she texted you asking if it was alright if she could share your number with Chris Evans. You said yeah.
Chris texts you saying how lovely it was to meet you and that he hopes he is not wasting your time. It's fine, don’t worry, you reassure him. I’m baking cookies. How are you? you add. You were taking advantage of the free time, doing hobbies that were a bit left aside when touring around the world.
I love cookies, he replied and you sent him a pic of the oven.
Cool. I’m actually watching a baking show. [image attached] it’s a pic of the tv, his sleepers, and a dog close to him.
I love that show! Who is that?
It’s Dodger. [image attached], this time is a selfie of Chris with the pup.
Cute!
You leave your phone aside and take the cookies out of the oven. You sent him a pic of them nicely displayed on a plate, one of your cats is in the back.
You talk the following weeks through texts and you find he is in new york for work.
One day you are really tired, eyes and fingers burning from composing and playing with the guitar, that you text him: can I call you? and he replies with a quick yes.
You are talking when he mentions he's wrapping his project soon and he asks if you are close to new york.
You tell him that you are, in fact, in the big apple.
“Cool. Maybe you want to grab a drink… or coffee... or tea. Whatever you want.” You hear stutter a bit making you smile as you see your cats playing.
“I… yeah. It would be nice to have drinks.” You end up saying after debating if it was a good idea, if you got caught or whatever media liked to call it wouldn't be good, for you or him, but Why would you have to stop yourself from good things?, you think.
He sends you a text with the address of a bar.
You arrive at the dive bar on your black low-profile car (as low as it can be in New York) around 11pm when he was done. Also, the darkness will help you both be undercover, or at least that's what you think.
He was waiting for you in the back, standing once you reached the small tall table.
He got a whiskey and you a glass of wine and the conversation flowed about your love for wine and then it developed in other interests in common.
He noticed how you turned around from time to time, so he asked after an hour or so "Is everything okay? Am I too boring?"
"What? No. I'm just... Sometimes I feel that they are watching me but there's no one looking, is like..."
"Like you are in a fishbowl and everyone is looking at you expectantly" Chris adds when you start looking for words.
"Yeah, and then they start with their stories, and it's not something I want to deal with right now."
"We can leave if it's too much."
"You wouldn't mind?" you say looking sorry at him, knowing your presence was too much for people sometimes. it's always y/n y/l/n who they wanted and not y/n. He shakes his head and leaves a bill on the table that most definitely covers the drinks and the tip.
You are now in your car, windows up, with a tad uncomfortable silence on the way to his hotel.
"Sometimes I wish I was invisible," you say to him staring at the busy streets and people in coats. "Like, I feel it could be much easier to just... be."
"I wanted that for a long time too," Chris says when you turn around to look at him, his blue eyes finding your y/e/c eyes. "but with time I realized that what I wanted was being unrecognizable and not invisible."
You keep talking after that deep conversation that made the air more comfortable until you reach the direction. You noticed it wasn't that far but traffic is always hectic in this city.
"So... thank you for the invite," you tell him, not knowing what to really say. Would he ask for you to go with him for more drinks? Should you invite yourself over? So before ruining it you add: "Next one is on me."
He says goodbye matching your awkward energy and once he is inside the hotel your chauffer turns on the engine to drive you to your NYC home.
Somehow Chris manages to be the source of your inspiration, turning blank spaces into pages full of fast writing with melodies in your head.
You continue to go out at night, enjoying Times Square and the crowded and busy avenues, no one pays attention, focused on the blinding lights, to busy taking selfies and pictures, window-shopping, or on their way to a fancy club.
Its nice to walk around, just the two of you, and well, your bodyguard walking far behind, but you forget about him and everyone else when you are with Chris. He goes to your apartment or you go to his hotel, always wondering if you should stay with him or if he should stay instead of leaving, feelings being present lately in you, and hopefully in him too.
You and Chris keep talking until one day you wake up to that song and then the bomb explodes on your face, figuratively of course, even if it felt like you got physically hurt from all the comments and false statements people were throwing at you. There's a bunch of paparazzi and people outside your apartment, nothing weird, even though it's definitely not normal and you know it.
You leave your apartment like you were a spy running away after being caught, to a house outside of new york. It's calm, but if you need anything from the city you are still close to it. You don't plan on needing anything from there, even if you miss some people. Also, you deleted all the social media apps after seeing what they were calling you.
You ignored everyone, even Chris. He send you a few texts and called a few times. If the mess had happened before and Chris and I were papped, it would also be him thrown in the trenches, it goes to your mind.
Your friends, the real ones, and your family were keeping you sane.
You were playing with the guitar, just for fun, to your cats, who were not having it, when you receive a call from Chris. You let your phone sound until I goes away, but you received a few texts from him. We miss you, it says, with a pic of him a Dodger. Can you answer the phone? you read before a call appears.
You didn’t want to answer but it was days and days of ignoring him because of your doubts.
"You are quite difficult to find these days, darling."
"Yeah, I'm on-" mandatory break from the masses who hate me, they made me disappear, they exile me without trusting in me after all. "on a break." you end up telling him. It was not, but it sounded better than the options going through your head. He probably doesn't even know, you think, remembering he is not really keen on social media. Am I a bad person for doing this to him? Ugh.
He hums, probably not believing in you. So you end up telling him what is going on with your career and yourself after he says you don’t sound good and asks again.
"Well, I can always go to you, if that's okay. We can bake cookies.”
You make a great comeback and ignore all the media, barely posting on your socials, just enjoying all the time you have with Chris, who was the inspiration for most of your songs.
You got papped a few times, sometimes with friends in common but it arises the rumors of you dating. There are some pics of only you two together but they are blurry and not compromising, so people are on edge.
You have the secret sessions with your fans, bake cookies for them, take pictures, and talk about the album after playing it for them.
When your second single drops, everyone starts pointing out that Chris is your boyfriend by all the lyrics. Ocean blue eyes being the main thing they take into consideration.
It’s more obvious when the tour starts and he posts a pic of himself but fans are quick to point out you were on the same palace. And of course, someone takes pictures and videos of him at the first concert.
He is busy with his own projects, but he goes to the other tour dates and spends I’m the back with your and his family.
He makes sure to hug you after you are done with the concerts he attends and to message you when he can’t be there.

Ciliary Pathlines
For tiny creatures, swimming through water requires techniques very different than ours. Many, like this sea urchin larva, use hair-like cilia that they beat to push fluid near their bodies. The flows generated this way are beautiful and complex. (Image credit: B. Shrestha et al.) Read the full article

Experimental observation of the elastic range scaling in turbulent flow with polymer additives
When long-chain flexible polymers are dissolved in a turbulent flow, the flow properties can be changed drastically by reducing the drag and enhancing the mixing. A fundamental riddle in materials science is to understand how these polymer additives interact with different spatial scales in turbulent flow to alter the turbulence energy transfer. In a new report now on Science Advances, Yi-Bao Zhang and a research team showed how turbulent kinetic energy could be transferred across different scales in the presence of polymer additives. The team noted the emergence of a previously unidentified scaling range known as the elastic range, where an increased amount of energy could be transferred by the elasticity of the polymers. The findings have important applications across many turbulent systems, including turbulence in plasmas or superfluids.
Flow properties and velocity structure function (VSF)
Materials scientists have shown how dissolving a tiny amount of long-chain flexible polymer in a fluid could change the flow properties. Reynolds number helps predict flow patterns under different fluid flow situations. At low Reynolds, normal fluid flow is stable and laminar, and the addition of polymers can induce strong fluctuations to create elastic turbulence. High-Reynolds number turbulent flows can result in substantial reduction of drag and the enhancement or reduction of convective heat transfer.

《For example, E. M. Purcell presented a surprising observation in his 1976 lecture “Life at Low Reynolds Number.” Escherichia coli cells swim using long corkscrew-shaped flagella, which act like propellers. The cells push their way through the water, typically moving about 30 μm/S (30 μm is 10 or 15 times the length of the cell). But, when they stop turning the flagella, they don’t keep coasting along the way a ship or submarine would. Instead, the surrounding water instantly stops them in less than the diameter of a water molecule.
The flagellar motor is one of the wonders of the biomolecular world (Fig. 4.8). The motor spans the entire cell wall, rotating at speeds of up to 18,000 revolutions per minute. Each rotation is powered by the flow of about 1000 hydrogen ions across the inner membrane. Amazingly, the motor can turn the flagellum in either direction, clockwise or counterclockwise, on demand. When it turns in one direction, all of the flagella on the cell get tangled into a bundle, and together they propel the cell through the surrounding water. If the motor switches direction, however, the flagella separate and flail in different directions, causing the cell to stop and tumble in place.》

Selecting Water Circulation Meters

Water circulation meters offer critical visibility into just how much liquid or gas is streaming within pipes, water drainage systems, as well as other framework. Here's a good read about ultrasonic flow meter , check it out! They enable operators to figure out if their systems are appropriately stabilized, make certain that each endpoint gets appropriate supply, and determine too much circulation rates that might harm pipelines or create other troubles. Circulation meters come in a wide range of modern technologies, each of which offers something unique that makes them excellent for a variety of applications. To gather more awesome ideas on mag flow meter, click here to get started. Despite the modern technology you choose, however, there are some things you need to remember when picking a water circulation meter to make certain you get the best one for your requirements. Expense: An excellent water flow meter isn't constantly low-cost, so it is essential to look around for the best offers on your meter. You might be able to locate a less expensive alternative that works fine, however it might not have the features you need. Installment: Flow meters need to be installed thoroughly to ensure they're supplying accurate analyses. They should be fitted with a pipeline that's straight and also free of any kind of particles or obstructions that could affect the circulation rate readings. They should likewise be installed in an area where they will not be affected by vibrations or electromagnetic fields that can hinder the dimensions. Liquids: Various kinds of liquids have their own distinct characteristics that can make them challenging to determine precisely with a traditional flow meter. Some are more difficult to determine than others, such as those that have high Reynolds numbers (definition they're a little bit a lot more rough than other fluids). Temperature: Water and also various other liquids that stream via piping can vary substantially in temperature level, depending on their details application. This can create a need for different flow meters with a minimum temperature level capability that can deal with the most affordable media temperature levels in their details applications. Inline Flow Meters: Most water circulation meters can be installed in-line, meaning that they become part of the piping. This enables them to be mounted without having to cut the piping, which might cause leaks or various other issues in the future. Stainless Steel: Water circulation meters that are stainless steel or copper are much better outfitted to handle higher stress and destructive settings than those made of plastics. They likewise have the included benefit of being corrosion-resistant, so they're much less vulnerable to rusting or various other damage. Digital: Water flow meters that are electronic have a sensor, processor, as well as present that give a continual readout of the water flow rate. They're a terrific selection for any application that needs reliable and exact analyses. Totalizing as well as Batching: Circulation meters with totalizing abilities can assist you track a wide range of information points in one location. These gadgets can complete the flow quantity for a specific timespan, which can be helpful in ensuring that you're only taking in as much water as you require. Transportation Time: Some circulation meters use audio to determine the time it takes for fluid to take a trip from one side of the meter to the other. These meters have two transducers that are located on either side of the meter, which is after that used to calculate the circulation rate or volume. The Daily Grind
Coming at you this Friday evening with another collaboration with the lovely @omeliathehurricane. It’s silliness that turns into smuttiness. Consider yourselves warned. As usual, thank you to my dear partner in writing for putting up with my scatterbrained self, listening to my weird stories and commentaries, and making me laugh a thousand times as we wrote this (though a few times unintentionally). I hope all of you lovely readers enjoy it.
The Daily Grind
Sometimes everyday life is too mundane, and I have to find a way to spice it up. That’s what I keep telling Owen, but he doesn’t see it the same way. It’s good to mix things up a little, keep it interesting. For example, I love vanilla ice cream, but sometimes it’s good to try something new. There are so many flavours out there to try: rocky road, mint-choc-chip, tutti frutti... Or you can add nuts or gummy bears or sprinkles…you just have to try them all!
Owen likes to try new flavours, but sometimes he needs a little push. Just a bit of the right kind of pressure to get him going, and I know he’ll soon be along for the ride. So I have made it my job to give him that nudge in the right direction. I give him a little bit of time to grind it out and then see where things go from there.
Material Not Suitable for Children
“Why do you always have to pick the most popular films of the week to come and see?” Owen groans as we take our place in the queue for tickets to see Deadpool 2.
I snort slightly, amused by his annoyance considering he was the one who insisted on seeing this particular movie. Not that seeing Ryan Reynolds’ naked ass is anything to complain about. “I’m not the one who offered to trade sexual favours because they were so jazzed about this movie…”
“Amelia!” he hisses in a loud whisper, “We’re in public, there are children around! You can’t talk about sex in front of children.” I glance up at him and smirk at his rose-tinted ears and blushed cheeks. Sometimes it is the easiest thing in the world to push his buttons.
“You’re right, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t be talking about it.” He nods and accepts my apology. Poor guy. He has no idea where this is going. I take a small step back, and he thinks nothing of it. He absentmindedly wraps his arm around my waist, his chest brushing against my back, and pulls his phone out to check the email he just got. I start slowly at first. Subtly. I shift backward only slightly so that my ass grazes his package, and he probably thinks it was an accident.
I pause, but just for a second, before pushing back with more pressure. “Amelia,” he says in that warning tone that I get from him all the time when he thinks I’m being incorrigible. I guess he’s starting to understand now. I say nothing and smirk slightly as I grind against him once more, this time finishing with a swirl of my hips. A tiny burst of laughter escapes my lips as my back reverberates with the vibration of his chest as he attempts to suppress a deep moan. This is working. “Amelia,” he growls, his lips now millimeters from my ear. “I’m warning you. We’re in public; control yourself.”
“Hmmm?” I turn my head slightly and catch his gaze from the corner of my eye, the most angelic of looks plastered across my face. He rolls his eyes and takes a tiny step back, separating our bodies. Within seconds, though, I have closed the gap again and am swirling my hips against his crotch, gradually increasing the pressure.
“This is a movie theater, not a nightclub,” he says, his voice low, though fuelled by desire. He’s close to giving in now. I push my ass against his crotch again and feel the pressure his now growing member is putting on his pants. It’s just a matter of seconds now. “I’m warning you.”
“What’s wrong with a little fun?” I tease, hoping he’ll drag me into the disabled toilet and put an end to this torturous grinding.
“Amelia,” he says, his voice calm and controlled. I feel his hands place themselves on my waist, and I can’t help but grin. This is the moment. “Stop moving,” he commands instead, his hands holding tightly onto my waist, stopping my movements. He pulls me sideways and steps forward so he’s standing next to me. I pout and cross my arms. This was not the ending I had in mind.
Nothing Satisfying Happens After 3 am
I cover my mouth with my hand as another yawn ripples through me. “Long night?” Sandie, one of the nurses who’s been here for years, smiles understandingly at me. I nod, but as I open my mouth to answer, all that comes out is another yawn. I really hate it when the hospital is this quiet at 3 am.
“Need a nap, Dr. Shepherd?” a teasing voice calls from behind me. How is Owen this chipper in the middle of the night? It’s not normal for a human to have this much energy at three in the morning.
“Yes,” I whine in response, “How do I arrange that?”
“By not signing up for the night shift,” he teases back. Oh good, he’s chipper and taunting me. Typical Owen.
“It’s in our contracts to do a certain number a month,” I complain, drumming my fingers against the surface of the station, doing everything in my power to not yawn in front of him. I am not a pretty sight when yawning.
“For what it’s worth,” he smiles kindly at me, “I’m happy our night shifts happened to line up.” As he finishes his thought, he takes another step closer to me so his chest is pressing against my shoulder blades and leans over my shoulder to press a soft kiss against my cheek. At the skin on skin contact, a rush of heat surges through me; and all of a sudden I’m awake and prepared to be active. Very active. Active in an on-call room without the burden of scrubs. God, it’s been way too long since I’ve gotten laid. Well, it’s barely been a week; but that’s a decade in sex years.
I swear it started innocently at first. I lean back a little because I’m craving a bit more contact. But then before I even know what’s happening, I’m pressing my ass insistently against him and he’s groaning and it’s turning me on even more, so I’m full-on grinding on him in front of the nurses’ desk. Like I said, I need to get laid.
“Amelia…” the word barely leaves his lips as he battles to stop another moan from escaping his lips. I don’t answer. In my exhausted, sex-fueled haze, I just keep going.
Buzz. I suddenly hear Owen talking through gritted teeth. Buzz. “Do you hear that?” he says. He’s acting like a child. “It’s my pager. People need me. Lives to save. See you later!” And all of a sudden I’m left in an exhausted mess of raging hormones.
“Owen!” I call out after him, too tired to attempt to disguise the sexually frustrated desperation in my voice he knows all too well. But nothing, he’s gone. And I still need to get laid.
“Dr. Shepherd, if you go to the on-call room now, make sure you lock the door,” says Sandie. Crap. I forgot she was still here. “You’re going to be even more frustrated than you are right now if someone walks in on you with your hand down your pants.” Normally I would laugh, but I’m too tired and frustrated right now. I just groan as I head toward the on-call room. I take her advice and lock the door immediately after it closes behind me.
Rising Tension
“Why are we at the mall?” I groan as Owen takes my hand in his and lets me step onto the escalator first. He rests his hand on the banister and leans closer to me.
“I need some new clothes and you always say I have terrible taste and yours is so much better than mine, so I thought I would bring the expert.” I cross my arms. Sure, I might have told him that some of his outfit choices leave something to be desired, but I never said I wanted to go to the mall in the middle of the afternoon on a weekend when there are tons of people milling about who are too engrossed in their phones to notice that they’re obstructing the flow of pedestrian traffic. He wraps his arms around my waist and nuzzles my ear. “Will a cuddle cheer you up?” he asks.
No, a cuddle will not cheer me up, but embarrassing the hell out of you will. I begin to shift against him. Thank goodness we’re on an up escalator because I have the perfect angle to grind against him in earnest. It’s only been a few seconds, and I can already feel his erection forming. “Amelia, no,” he says sternly. “Not again.” He groans, knowing what’s coming next. “We’re in public.” Um, yeah, that’s the point, buddy. I ignore him and continue to grind, hard enough that he’ll have an impressive erection by the time we step off of the escalator in a few seconds, but not so aggressively that it’s obvious to onlookers what I’m doing.
The stair I’m on reaches the top, and I step off and dance away from him. I turn back to see him shuffling off of the escalator and glaring at me. “I’m going to the bathroom,” he grates out. He emerges 30 seconds later, and his erection is no longer visible.
“That was fast!” I say with a large smirk. “Are you sure you washed your hands?”
“You know damn well what I was doing in there. It’s your fault. Now tell me which store we’re going to so we can get the hell out of here.” Mission accomplished. Now he’s just as miserable to be at the mall as I am.
Below Deck Play
“Make yourselves at home!” Jackson encourages as we all scatter across the deck of his boat. A day at sea is the perfect way to detox and not think about the hospital. I take a deep breath, letting the clean sea air fill my lungs and leave me feeling tranquil and revitalized. Several of us head out toward the top where the captain’s chair is. April and Arizona opt for some seating along the side while Owen goes for the captain’s chair. Of course.
I follow him to his seat. “Mind if I join you, captain?” I ask saucily as I approach him. I’m in a happy, carefree mood, so of course I want to tease him a little. Nothing brightens my day quite like watching him squirm. Especially in front of our colleagues.
“Go ahead,” he says absentmindedly, so I take him up on his offer and sit down on his lap. I’ve barely managed to shift an inch on his lap before his arms are tightening around my waist and his mouth is next to my ear. “Behave,” he whispers gruffly. Smiling, I internally congratulate myself on wearing a very thin summer dress today.
I giggle. “Kepner, do you guys have any lemonade over there?” I call out, purposefully drawing their attention toward us before shifting again, hoping I can at least get a groan out of him.
“Yep, I’ll grab some from the cooler and bring it over,” Kepner offers.
“Great, thanks,” I say, smiling over my shoulder before turning back around and grinding down on him again.
This time, he grabs my right knee and squeezes. “Do I need to take you back inside and spank you?” My eyes get huge, and I’m certain the way I whipped around to face him was extremely unsubtle.
“Owen, there are other people around!” I whisper frantically. Over his shoulder, I can see Kepner approaching with the aforementioned lemonade.
The bastard is smirking at me. “That didn’t stop you from grinding on me today or any other day.” Damn it. This is backfiring. I’ve got to think of some way to regain the upper hand. “Or do you just talk a big game?” Okay Owen, challenge accepted. Two can play at this game.
“So, how would you put an end to this?” I say, keeping my voice a moan-like whisper. As he opens his mouth to throw a witty comeback my way I swirl my hips again, readjusting my position. He immediately shuts his mouth and glares at me, trying his hardest to trap another moan in his throat.
Right on time, April appears beside us holding two bottles of lemonade. “Here’s your lemonade!” she says cheerfully. Her brow furrows when she catches sight of Owen. “Owen, are you alright?”
He opens his mouth to answer, and I discreetly shift once again in his lap. By now his arm around my waist has become a death grip. “Yeah, Owen, is something wrong?” I ask, making my best effort to sound overly concerned. He goes to answer, and once again I move. This time, though, I re-adjust my position so my sundress falls on either side of his knees and the thin material of my panties is pressing against his crotch. It takes everything in me not to smile gleefully. I’m definitely winning now.
I can feel the deep gulp he takes to steady himself before answering. “Thank you for your concern, April,” he says, and I wonder if she can hear the frustration in his voice. “Now that you mention it, I’m not feeling my best. Amelia, would you mind giving me a hand?” He doesn’t wait for my answer. Instead, he stands up, causing me to almost fall to the ground, he does it so suddenly. He then grabs my wrist tightly and begins to drag me toward the inside of the yacht.
“Where are we-” I begin to ask while he pulls me into one of the cabins and lets go of my wrist before closing the door behind himself. The words catch in my throat as he leans against the now closed door, his eyes locked with mine as he turns the lock. As he does so, his eyes shift to a far darker shade of blue and he flashes me that cocky smile of his that I know all too well.
“We are putting an end to this,” he says, his voice calm, cool, controlled. “Right here.” He takes a step towards me, closing the gap between us. His hand snakes its way around the back of my neck, his thumb tracing the edge of my jawline. We’re standing so close. So close together I can feel his breath tickle and caress my skin. “Right now.” The words barely audible as he crashes his lips on mine, connecting us.
He controls the kiss, his other hand grabbing hold of my hip and pulling my body flush against his. My hands move up and wrap themselves around his neck, increasing the pressure. In the tight, enclosed room he turns us around and walks us back until my back crashes against the locked door. The thud against my spine makes me bite down on his bottom lip. He doesn’t wince, though, he just lets out a deep, long moan, as though all his suppressed ones from earlier in the day were finally bubbling over.
With me now pressed against the door, trapped by his frame, he lets his hands explore my body. Tracing their way up the exposed skin of my leg and continuing up, under the material of my dress, not stopping till they snake around my lower back and cup my ass. His hips thrust a bit against mine while he continues to kiss my lips, my cheeks, and my neck. He thrusts again, more firmly this time, and I can feel the anticipation coiling within me. He’s getting close to ripping this dress off of me and getting to the main event.
But several more minutes go by, and all he does is cup my ass, kiss me, and dry hump me like a high school boy hiding out under the bleachers. “Owen,” I hiss. “Act like you’ve done this before and stop teasing me.”
All of a sudden he stills against me. “Stop teasing you?” he says with a chuckle. “You’ve taken every opportunity you could find in the last few weeks to grind on me in public places and leave me with a boner, and now you’re complaining that I’m teasing you?” He hooks his fingers around the waistband of my panties and slowly pulls them down my thighs and over my knees until they are on the floor. He captures my eyes again and smirks, a smirk so dirty it sends a rush of heat surging through my body. But then he crashes his lips on mine again and carries on as though I had not said anything.
“Owen!” I moan, the word almost getting caught in my throat as he takes the parting of my lips as an invitation to push his tongue past my teeth and begin asserting his dominance. His tongue laps at mine.
As frustrated as ever, I drag my nails down over his stomach until they reach the waistband of his jeans. Quickly and expertly my fingers undo his belt and pop the button. I pull the waistband open, pulling the zipper down, and his fly comes open. I dip my hand in, immediately feeling how hard he is, but as I snake my hand past his boxers, he steps away from me. “What’s with all the haste?” He mocks me as his eyes catch mine devouring his now very obvious erection.
I know that there’s no way I can provide any sort of decent comeback to that, so I just reach out and tug his pants and boxers down his hips. Next, I reach for him, hoping I can distract him with a few well-timed strokes. He’s playing hardball, though, and takes a step back. At this point, I don’t really give a shit anymore about this little game. “Oh, for crying out loud!” I snap. “You know damn well you’re about to lose your mind just like I am. Would you please just get over here and put us both out of our misery?”
He laughs. God, I want to slap him. “You’ve always been such a romantic,” he teases, but I can see that his guard is down, so I grab his hips and yank him forward. The contact between his erection and my naked skin snaps him out of whatever teasing mood he was in, and now he’s not interested in games anymore either.
Without uttering another word, he allows himself to fall back against the small couch which is built into the wall. He takes my hands in his and pulls me towards him until I’m on my knees on the couch straddling him, our crotches inches apart, no longer separated by clothing.
He grabs my hips, lines himself up at my entrance, and then he’s sliding in, and we’re both moaning. Super loud. We can probably be heard throughout half of Seattle, but I’m past caring at this point. Our combined desperation means the steady pace he set quickly becomes frantic. It’s not long before he’s panting out, “I’m gonna…”
“Me too,” I cut him off. I bury my face in his neck in an attempt to somewhat stifle the moans as pleasure rips through me. He doesn’t even try to muffle the noises he’s making, he just shouts for all of Washington to hear. I wrap my arms around him and cling tightly to him while we both come down from our highs.
I don’t know how much time passes, but he finally looks up at me and whispers, “We should probably get back out there before anyone realizes that we’re gone.” I can’t help it. I burst into uncontrollable laughter. “What?” he asks. I can’t answer him because I’m laughing too hard. He pinches my hip gently. “Amelia, just what is so funny?” I look down at his innocent face, his cheeks still flushed, breaths laboured and hair sticking out in all directions as a result of my fingers. He has absolutely no idea.
Finally, I barely manage to answer him through my laughter. “Owen, you shouted loud enough for the entire city to hear. I was still wearing my dress. My hair is probably quite the sight. I don’t think anyone is going to be confused about where we were or what we were doing.”
His face drops into my shoulder. God, he’s adorable. Did he seriously not realize how obvious we were being that whole time? He must have been really horny.
“Ready to brave the storm of mocking and ridicule?” I tease him as I stand up and pull him with me. He snorts an unamused breath as I slip my panties on and he pulls on his discarded items of clothing. “Good to go?” I ask, smiling sweetly as I balance myself on my tip toes and brush my lips against his.
He follows me out of the room, holding onto my hand tightly, much like a child would do. I can’t help but smile at how adorable he is.
When we arrive back on the deck, I’m relieved to find only Meredith up there. At least we’re not going to have to deal with everyone at once. She turns around and gives the two of us a very noticeable once-over. Okay, Meredith, I get it. It’s extremely obvious that we hooked up. She finally speaks up. “Does this mean you’re going to stop dry humping him in public places?”
“No, I think I’ll continue,” I answer. When I pictured how awkward this was going to be, I definitely didn’t imagine it going like that. Had I really been that obvious when I’d been messing with him?
“If you have to, please do it in private next time.” Maggie’s voice can all of a sudden be heard behind us. I spin on the spot to find our entire boat party comfortably seated around the loungers directly above the room Owen and I had been in minutes prior.
I roll my eyes but can’t help the snigger that escapes my lips at seeing how embarrassed Owen is. “I guess subtlety isn’t your strong suit.” He suddenly decides to poke fun at me.
“Dude, speak for yourself!” Alex scoffs loudly. “It’s going to take days of showers and combing to fix that sex hair.”
From where Owen and I are standing, it looks like we’re being told off by the high school disciplinary board. I can’t help but laugh as Owen awkwardly scratches the back of his head, before running his fingers through his tangled locks. “Seriously, that’s not going to fix it,” Alex carries on, unable now to hold back his laughter.
“What I think we should all be talking about is how loud Owen was!” April decides to join in on the teasing. “Is Shepherd really that good?”
I open my mouth to answer. However, before I get a chance to answer, Owen is giving the passionate “Yes!” that I had intended to say. “Now if you’ll excuse us.” He grins, unfazed by everyone’s surprised expressions given he’s known for enjoying his privacy, and grabs me by the wrist. He proceeds to pull me back toward the staircase without concern for the wolf whistles that follow us.
“I’m going to buy everyone earplugs!” Meredith’s indignant and yet amused judgemental voice follows us as we head downstairs.
Grinning from ear to ear, I stick my hand up in the air and throw my sister a thumbs up. “Great! Send me the bill!” But before I can hear the response, I find myself locked in the same tiny cabin. All my grinding has paid off.

Influencer Marketing (or Celebrity Endorsement) for Social Good
Some tips on Video and Content Marketing.
If you haven’t seen this video from Ryan Reynolds and his Wrexham Association Football Club business partner, spend six and and half minutes getting caught up.
Did it make you smile? Did you learn something new?
I hope so.
We do a fair amount of influencer marketing work here at Convince & Convert, albeit mostly B2B and with key opinion leaders in the marketing or customer experience space.
Like this video, we work with clients to create concepts, invite experts to join the effort, script the video delivery, edit the video with post-production refinement, and ultimately drive traffic and interest to the series we’ve partnered to create.
Having a top star like Ryan Reynolds would be amazing to work with (I chose to think his diva factor is low and his love for his daughters melts me), but even without the A-list name, there are parallels in this video that we can learn and take into B2B content marketing.
I find this to be an excellent example for applying influencer marketing for social good.
Here are three key takeaways that make this a relatable piece of content marketing and influencer program activation that can be applied, regardless if Ryan is your leading man.
#1: It’s Authentic.
My husband passed the age of routine colonoscopy screening during COVID. His reschedule, of the rescheduled, and now the RESCHEDULED appointment is in a few weeks. He’s already survived pancreatic cancer so keeping up on routine screenings and early detection procedures are very near and dear to our hearts. But, this doesn’t make it any less intimidating than a first-time colonoscopy.
The relatability of Ryan and Rob is outstanding. They fit the demographic profile and humor angle perfectly for the core audience target. It can be a somewhat embarrassing procedure but they have broken it down into a relatable and honest conversation with real-footage of them before and after the scope.
Were they exactly looking forward to having this done? No.
They are loopy after anesthesia, and moreover make jokes about things being shoved up their as$es.
These are all pieces my husband and his friends will find honest and authentic as they go into this phase of their mid-life as well.
The authenticity of the footage and dialogue mixed with humor is also a key reason this has been viewed nearly 10 million times in the first day of release.
How to Stay Authentic But On Target
As I said above, we tend to script our videos with KOL’s. We don’t do it to lock in the exact words they must say. On the contrary, we do it to ease any nerves and ensure the main messages are clear and included. We tend to think of the script as the show flow more so than “repeat every word from a teleprompter.”
Most of our videos with KOL’s are done in one or two takes, ensuring that the human factor and true authenticity is there. If we do more than one or two takes, it’s usually because the mic wasn’t picking up clearly or the lighting was off.
#2: The Message Is Clear, The Sponsor Is Not.
At the end of the six and a half minutes, did you catch who “sponsored” or produced the video?
I did not, and that’s how it should be.
Delivering the message – to get your routine colonoscopy – is the ONLY information that matters in this video. Your life could be saved by this procedure.
Yes, Lead from Behind powered by the Colorectal Cancer Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit, paid for and produced this video but does that really matter?
It doesn’t matter one bit.
The message was delivered and absorbed and shared.
Does Ryan Reynolds get more accolades for the message than the Colorectal Cancer Alliance – you bet. However, the mission to “make colon cancer famous” and one step toward that is to convince more adults aged 45 and over to get their routine colonoscopy.
It’s about educating the masses, and reducing the number of families affected by this terrible disease.
Job well done, Lead from Behind!
Helpfulness Over Self Promotion
At C&C, we counsel clients on this exact marketing approach. In B2B marketing, the topics we tend to cover are certainly not of life-saving importance but even so, being helpful over promotion wins every time.
Our clients use a subtle logo placement in a lower corner of the video or a quick “brought to you by” message in the intro or outro. Sometimes our KOL will mention “In partnership with Cisco…” (or Oracle or SAP) but it’s not a sales pitch in any way. It’s a nod to the company putting resources behind delivering a useful message.
#3: The Content Is NOT Gated.
To gate, or not to gate, isn’t that always a question?
If you are asking that about your content – the answer should be “no”.
Obviously, this video had a healthy budget behind it. Due to the videography and celebrity endorsement, shouldn’t Lead from Behind need to show direct ROI for this expense?
Somewhere in a boardroom, not long from now, my bet is Lead from Behind will be able to show the increase in the target audience participating in colonoscopies and the diagnosis of colon cancer in the target audience decreasing.
Is it a direct 1:1 result of this video? Some would argue “no”.
Does it include a metric for how many email addresses they collected by forcing a form fill before the video is viewed? Definitely not.
Take the audience experience into account.
Like someone not seeing the video directly, but hearing a rumbling of it from a friend or a headline about it on a mainstream source?
What an incredible brand extension.
From all the places I have seen this video covered, every one of them has done so without gating any piece of the content. No pre-enroll form or mid-roll break. No enter your email to find out the conclusion.
A user can click through from any source and get directly to the full 6 minute and 30 second video.
The Power of Youtility
If you are going to spend the budget and resources to create an educational and entertaining video for your brand, why limit to individuals who fill out a form?
Get your message out. Be helpful. (Our own Jay Baer wrote an entire book about this concept called Youtility. The definition being “make your marketing SO useful, that your audience would pay for it.)
Let the content speak for itself. The viewer experience on this video is outstanding. ONE click from any social media post, article or other coverage delivers the video in full.
No form. No multi-click or landing page navigation. My recall and admiration of Lead from Behind is a 10/10 for delivering a useful message in a frictionless way.
Being helpful over promotion wins every time. Click To Tweet
Get to the Bottom of Social Good
So, if you didn’t give it a look before we started down this path, here’s your chance to watch the video.
Learn something new and laugh at the poop jokes. Schedule your own colonoscopy or at least encourage a friend to also schedule theirs. And if you feel so inclined, donate to Lead from Behind.
Take it from someone who has lived it first hand, it’s so much better to hear “all clear” than “we found something.”

Laminar flow airfoil

Also, “phase-locking” between the shock motion and a global buffet mode is possible. It is however not quite clear whether the shock motion plays a fundamental active role or is rather a symptom of the periodically accelerating and decelerating flow over the airfoil suction side. acoustic feedback and wave propagation models) have difficulties to directly couple the shock motion with the low-frequency fluctuations in the lift, more recent studies describe transonic buffet as a global instability. Transonic buffet is often associated with large amplitude, autonomous shock oscillations, caused by the interactions between shock waves and separated shear layers. However, despite large experimental efforts, the self-sustaining mechanism is still not fully understood. It is of great interest to be able to define buffet boundaries as precisely as possible in order to fully exploit and potentially extend the safe flight envelope. It is generally assumed that the structural response of the wing is triggered by resonance effects after the disturbance amplitude reaches a sufficient magnitude. This aerodynamic instability has been observed in experimental and numerical studies of rigid airfoils as well and is known as “transonic buffet”. Transonic buffeting is usually characterised in the literature as a structural response to an aerodynamic instability, which causes significant low-frequency fluctuations in the aerodynamic lift forces. An important observation is that, in the present example, transonic buffet is not directly coupled with the shock motion. Raising the angle of attack from α = 3 ∘ to α = 4 ∘ leads to an increase in strength of DMD modes corresponding to type C shock motion. The reconstruction of the flow fluctuations was found to be more complete and robust with the DMD analysis, compared to the global stability analysis of the mean flow. Furthermore, DMD picks up the buffet mode at a Strouhal number of S t = 0.12 that agrees with experiments. These modes are also present in a dynamic mode decomposition (DMD) of the unsteady direct numerical solution. Besides Kelvin Helmholtz instabilities, a global mode, showing the coupled acoustic and flow-separation dynamics, can be identified, in agreement with literature. At an angle of attack α = 4 ∘, a significant change of the boundary layer stability depending on the aerodynamic load of the airfoil is observed. The present contribution is based on direct numerical simulations of a laminar flow airfoil undergoing transonic buffet at Mach number M = 0.7 and a moderate Reynolds number R e = 500, 000. Recent approaches applying computational fluid mechanics methods using turbulence models seem promising, but are still unable to answer some fundamental questions on the detailed buffet mechanism. An airfoil undergoing transonic buffet exhibits a complex combination of unsteady shock-wave and boundary-layer phenomena, for which prediction models are deficient.
