In an effort to eliminate the suffering of the world Machig Labdron was given five slogans to follow. The fourth of these slogans was “Anything you are attached to, give that.” Releasing our attachments, our rules, our ideals, our images of ourselves and of others, this is where we can alleviate our suffering. So often people come into therapy and complain about their pain and ask “what should I do,” but when given feedback reply “I can’t do that, its not me.” Or, it makes me uncomfortable, or I can’t imagine it.” These are examples of attachments.
