It's always "childhood friends because Atem moved to Japan as a kid" and never "childhood friends because Yugi went to a dig in Egypt with his grandpa and met Atem in the streets of Cairo." Give me Atem and Yugi penpal friendship because Sugoroku knows Atem's family from his archeologist circles. Give me Yugi being interested in mythology because he's a goth nerd and we all were and Atem trying to impress him with stories about the gods but he keeps getting shit wrong because he just never payed much attention to it before

Give me Atem teaching Yugi how to play some of the local games and Yugi thinking he's the coolest person ever. Give me Yugi being friends with Mana and Mahaad because of Atem and all of them going on little adventures together. Ya know

I don't think we talk enough about how Mahad just straight up LIED to Atem. He KNEW how the Millennium Items were created, he KNEW that the reveal of that knowledge resulted in Atem's father's death, and he. Said. NOTHING. He let Atem believe that the Items were holy and good even when Bakura broke into the palace and started speaking the truth.

He DIED letting Atem believe that. He only admitted to it after Atem had already found out the truth for himself.

Now personally, if I found out that one of my nearest and dearest friends had lied to me for years and years about something so important I would be pretty devastated.

For my put Jou in a random ship Tuesday, has there ever been a consideration about Mahaad and Jou? Like Mahaad serving Atem as ruler, his loyal servant. His childhood friend. Then there's Jounouchi who is absolutely devoted to Yugi and in turn cares for Atem as well. Like I want to see these two interacting, bonding over how much they care about Atem. I think it would be an interesting dynamic or at least interesting to write about.

Atem is so used to Yugi doing makeup for the both of them that when he gets to Aaru and has to do it himself for the first time he absolutely fucking sucks at it. Yugi always made it look so easy and yes Atem knows he could just get someone else to do it on him but it wouldn't be the same and he's a pharaoh he can do this - cue Mana and Mahaad commentating on his three hour struggle to do a perfect wing. He pokes himself in the eye more than once and is so close to just breaking the rules and kidnapping Yugi to do it for him

I really really love that when Atem first gets to Memory World, he still only has the thoughts and personality of a modern teenager. he's been told over and over again that he's a pharaoh and he's still blown away that everyone is calling him and treating him as such. I love that he's immediately like "what the fuck am I wearing?" and very much NOT going "Yes this finally feels right." that he's "Erm--" and "uh--" -ing all over the place.

that is the face of a man who just realized how much he's taken air conditioning and boxer briefs for granted up till now
