Himalayan Heartbeats: The Ultimate Manali Adventure with Yolo Backpackers
Yolo Backpackers became my entryway to the unadulterated magic of the Himalayas, tucked away in the center of Old Manali, where the pine trees sway like drunken poets and the Beas River hums lullabies. This is your unvarnished guide to climbing mountains, seeking exhilarating experiences, and enjoying hearty mountain cuisine without breaking the bank.

🗻 Three Adventures That Changed My Soul
Hampta Pass: A World-to-World Gateway From the green slopes of Kullu to the lunar wastes of Lahaul, this 6-day hike is a metamorphosis. It was like entering a National Geographic magazine cover where snow leopards (figuratively) whisper secrets as you crossed the 14,065-foot pass. Licenses? For guided trips, it's simple with a photo ID and ₹5,000–15,000. Expert advice: Get used to Jobra's meadows, which are like nature's yoga classroom.
2. Jogini Falls: The Tears of the Mountain This walk runs through apple orchards guarded by cheeky monkeys and is a 4-kilometer hike from Vashisht Village. The mist and the 160-foot waterfall crash like a drumroll. It's like taking a cold shower in the Himalayas. In order to avoid Instagrammer, start early.
3. Trekking Through Time in Malana Village Malana, a five-hour climb from Jari, is like stepping into a different reality. According to legend, its citizens are sprung from Alexander's soldiers. Spoiler alert: They have legendary hashish, but be mindful of their traditions—the people here preserve them like dragons treasure gold.
🚀 5 Excursions to Spark Your Inner Rebel
Overseas Paragliding in Solang Valley At 8,500 feet, soar like a Himalayan griffon! While Bir Billing, which is three hours away, is for thrill-seekers who want 30-minute flights, Solang offers tandem flights (₹1,200–2,500) that allow you to defy gravity.
Skiing in the Winter Wonderland of Solang Solang becomes Narnia in December and February. Carve slopes where the snow gleams like broken diamonds by renting equipment (₹1,500–3,000). The Winter Ski Festival is Coachella for snow bunnies, so don't miss it.
Rohtang Pass: Where the Sky Meets the Roads You can explore up to Marhi, but as of April 2025, the pass is closed (it reopens in mid-May). Permits are from ₹500 to ₹1,000; you can risk the 42 hairpin turns on a bike or rent a shared taxi for ₹1,500. Expert advice: Carry oxygen cans; the effects of altitude are more severe than a breakup.
Ziplining & ATV Rides in Solang Take an ATV ride (₹1,200–1,500) or zipline above valleys where eagles dare to go and unleash your inner Fast & Furious. Bonus: The sights from the ropeway trip are so clear you'll wonder if your phone's camera is working properly.
Chandratal Lake: The Mirror of the Moon Camp next to this crescent-shaped lake after passing across Hampta Pass. The stars here, at 14,100 feet, dance instead of twinkling.
🍲 The Culinary Symphony of Manali
Johnson's Cafe serves siddu, which are ghee-drenched fluffy wheat buns filled with walnuts. Serve with apricot chutney—Gramma's hug. Fresh from the Beas and smoked over deodar wood, trout are served at Riverside Dhabas. Enjoy it with a Kingfisher beer, as fish are also entitled to happy hours. The unofficial anthem of the Himalayas is Maggi at Old Manali Cafes. Try the Cafe 1947 version, which has more soul and cheese.
📅 How to Ball on a Budget & When to Go
Best Time: December–February for snow; March–June for treks. If you don't like highways turning into noodle soup, stay away from the July–August rain. Hacks for the Budget: Spend the night at Yolo Backpackers (₹200) and share stories around bonfires. Consume street food: ₹500 pizzas > ₹50 momos. Channel your inner Easy Rider by renting a Royal Enfield for ₹1,500 per day.
Schedule of the Keylong-Manali Bus
HRTC buses (₹250, 6 hours) travel from Manali to Keylong five times a day (4 AM–12 PM). Your best bet is the 5:09 AM HIMDHARA AC bus, which has cozy seats and fewer stops. Make a reservation online at HRTC's website or RedBus.
P.S. Please share your story if you see a diary beneath Yolo's oak tree. Like pebbles, stories are gathered by the mountains; yours could become folklore. 🌿 Yolo Backpackers is waiting for you with ghee on your plate, wind in your hair, and a heart full of Himalayan whispers. 🏔️

Exploring Local Life: A Cultural Tour Through Shimla and Manali
Travel isn’t just about sightseeing—it’s about connecting with people, stories, and traditions. While most visitors focus on the landscapes of Himachal, fewer explore its rich cultural tapestry. A well-planned Shimla Kullu Manali tour package from Delhi can give you a front-row seat to the region's colorful heritage.
Tumblr media
From the wooden architecture of ancient temples to the vibrant woolen crafts of Kullu, Himachal offers immersive cultural experiences if you’re willing to look beyond the typical tourist trail.
🛕 Unique Cultural Stops
Shimla’s Lakkar Bazaar – Discover handcrafted wooden toys and local souvenirs made by traditional artisans.
The Gaiety Theatre – A colonial-era heritage building where you can still catch local performances and exhibitions.
Naggar Castle, Kullu – A 15th-century palace-turned-hotel that offers insight into Himachal’s royal past.
Manali’s Manu Temple and Old Manali – Step back in time with cobbled streets, local cafes, and folk musicians playing traditional instruments.
🧣 Local Experiences to Include in Your Itinerary
Participate in a Himachali cooking session at a homestay
Learn wool weaving in a village near Kullu
Join a seasonal festival or fair (Dussehra in Kullu is legendary!)
Visit a local apple orchard during harvest season
🗺 Suggested Cultural Route
Your Delhi Shimla Manali package can be customized to follow a slower, more immersive path:
Day 1-2: Shimla (Heritage walk + Gaiety Theatre + Kufri)
Day 3: Travel to Manali via Naggar Castle
Day 4: Old Manali + Manu Temple + local art gallery
Day 5: Kullu (weaving cooperative + market + cultural museum)
Day 6: Return to Delhi with heartwarming memories
🧳 Travel Tips
Go for local homestays instead of chain hotels
Shop from government emporiums or artisan cooperatives
Carry cash for small markets—many don’t accept digital payments
🌟 Conclusion
Choosing a Shimla Kullu Manali tour package from Delhi doesn’t have to mean just ticking off sightseeing spots. With the right approach, it can be a deep dive into the culture, crafts, and community of Himachal. Let your next trip be about stories—not just selfies.

The best view comes after the hardest climb.
Four of us from here, decided to explore the virgin trek of Roli Kholi near Kullu in Himachal Pradesh with YHAI.
Tumblr media
We were a part of the pioneer batch of this virgin trek.
From 23-05-2025 to 03-06-2025, a period of 11D/10N, I travelled by all modes to transport to reach the base camp at Seobagh.
Tumblr media
The base camp has tents to stay with pucca washrooms having functioning taps & bathroom accessories. The water is cold in the shower and we try to freshen up in the noon, when the Sun is high and hot.
Tumblr media
YHAI has a schedule that every trekker follows.
Tumblr media
On the reporting day, when it is a free and relaxation day for the trekkers, we went to Manali and seeked the blessings of Goddess Hidimba.
Tumblr media
↑Goddess Hidimba temple at Manali.↑
Our trek route map is given below.
Tumblr media
A vehicle arranged by YHAI dropped us at Sethan, the base village of our trek. Our 3 guides (Tara bhai, Sunil and Devisingh) informed us of one hour sightseeing halt at Sethan itself. We understood that the camp must be nearby.
Tumblr media
↑Sethan village, the trailhead of our trek.↑
Again a break of an hour followed after climbing for some time & soon we reached the first campsite, Koki Nala.
Tumblr media
↑First campsite, Koki Nala.↑
We could see the road from this camp site and mobile network was available. Though water was always running in the pipes and there was no shortage of water at any camp sites of YHAI, I could not see the Nala (stream) of Koki here.
Tumblr media
↑Photo credit: my friend CWK with his iPhone 16-Pro.↑
The sunrise from Koki Nala was beautiful. Our trek to the second camp site Lamadough was just as easy like the trek to Koki Nala. The guides gave us hourly breaks frequently, ensuring that we didn't reach early. Things happen by discipline in YHAI treks.
Tumblr media
↑Trekking from Koki Nala to Lamadough.↑
The leaf littered jungle trek through the tall conifers was lovely.
Tumblr media
↑Second campsite, Lamadough↑
The second campsite, Lamadough was at the transition zone where the trees were sparse. Snow clad peaks could be seen in the front.
The celestial pair of Moon and Jupiter caught the curious eyes of our trekking group.
Tumblr media
Stargazing was a surreal experience here.
Tumblr media
↑Photo credit: my friend CWK with his iPhone 16-Pro.↑
The morning unfolded with color gradation and the peak caught the first rays of the rising Sun.
Tumblr media
We had the tall mountain behind us that we had to ascend and a few snow patches high up near the tip were spotted. After a hot breakfast, the cook casually commented that it will take not more than 2 hours to ascend and the highest campsite ROLI KHOLI was just behind the mountain.
The climb started with a steep uphill slope. Slowly we trudged and gained the higher ground.
Tumblr media
↑Looking behind at Lamadough.↑
Purple flowers of Iris versicolor appeared on the scene. The trees that were hardly there had vanished.
By the time we had reached our lunch point, many trekkers had exhausted their water supply. A vast meadow with glacial water trickling to form a gurgling stream was our lunch point. This lunch point was not visible from our lower campsite of Lamadough. The tents had vanished. We looked up and there was another mountain probably higher than the one we had already climbed. It was tiring mentally to even look up where we had to go. After lunch, our group of 55 trekkers slept in turns. Almost everyone woke up with a headache.
Tumblr media
This may have been the start of mild AMS (Acute mountain sickness).
Our group & camp leaders encouraged us to inform our complaints to them and they advised us frequent sips of water. It helped. We reached the highest campsite, ROLI KHOLI in cold whipping wind.
Tumblr media
↑Highest & third campsite, Roli Kholi, Kullu, HP.↑
There was a glacial lake and our tents were pitched beside it on grassy meadow. The wind now had become a gale. We placed huge stones on the tent's door flap to avoid it from fluttering violently. The stones were of the weight that needed both the hands to lift them. But the wind was overturning the stones kept on the tent's flap door. Soon the weather turned worse. Hailstorm started and followed by powder snow. We had huddled up inside the tents and didn't dare to step out when the hot tea was being served by YHAI.
Tumblr media
↑Tent huddle.↑
Finally the camp leaders came with the kettle and served us hot tea inside the tents. It was a welcome relief. We warmed up and stepped out to enjoy the hot nutritious food prepared by the cooks. With our hunger satisfied, the weather felt nice even when it was snowing.
Tumblr media
↑Campsite, Roli Kholi.↑
It was our pleasure to be a part of Sanskrit speaking-learning-teaching group of students pursuing BA, MA, PhD and their teachers.
Tumblr media
↑Our group of 55 trekkers.↑
Their motto was to take Sanskrit to the highest peaks of Himalayas. We were glad to witness them, be a part of their family (even when Sanskrit eluded us in the shlokas)! But we could understand their discussion and sometimes jokes, spoken fluently in Sanskrit amongst them.
They hoisted the Flag at the summit of Roli Kholi.
Tumblr media
↑Roli Kholi summit.↑
Now started our descent to lower campsite on the other side of the mountains.
Tumblr media
↑Looking back and up at campsite, Roli Kholi.↑
We started after lunch and trekked downhill to reach the Saroto campsite. One of us faced some difficulty while descending and was fully supported by the expert guides. They got the affected individual safely to the lower campsite, without falls and injuries. The health of that individual improved dramatically on reaching the lower altitude.
Tumblr media
↑The last campsite of Saroto.↑
Even when Roli Kholi summit was at approximately 12,500 feet and our young, dynamic and extremely cultured Sanskrit speaking group did feel some minor health issues, which were taken care by the YHAI group & camp leaders. Oxygen cylinders, Pulse oximeter, Sphygmomanometer, thermometer along with essential medicines formed the part of the first aid kit at every campsite. Hats off to YHAI for all this arrangement.
Tumblr media
↑Some snacks after returning to civilization at Jobri Nala.↑
Vehicles arranged by YHAI picked us from the Jobri Nala and took us to the base camp at Seobagh.
After a sumptuous breakfast of Medu vada-sambar-chutney & eggs at YHAI Seobagh base camp, we checked out and headed to Naggar by bus. We enjoyed the Roerich Art gallery and a delicious meal at Naggar Castle.
Tumblr media
↑Ma'am gave us a party after the trek at ISBT Kullu - Central mall.↑
