my previous post about pokemon redesigns that i view as downgrades also extends to gold/ethan's hgss redesign btw. it's not as much of a tragic downgrade as the oras protag redesigns and his ultra ball hat shows up great in the overworld but his overall design has much less character.
give the kid his baggy clothes back! he's suffocating!
where did the funky ultra ball shorts and big bicolor hoodie go? and perhaps just as pressing, where did his personality go?
#my first game was hgss and i had no issues with playing as him it's just wild to me looking at his old art how much more character he had#when i later played crystal for the first time and saw kris i felt cheated that we couldn't play as kris in hgss but#lyra's exempt from my criticisms because lyra isn't trying to be kris. different name completely different design. ethan doesn't have that#it's not lyra's fault she doesn't have blue hair and pronouns she's still fun#trainer gold#trainer ethan#mandibuzzing#to get purely into personal taste as a big enjoyer of the color yellow. i love how much yellow he has in his gsc designs too.#anyways my taste is entirely subjective and i'm also right
