the katseye dorm was quiet. it was currently one in the morning and the only things that can heard are the soft snores of the girls and the hum of the air conditioning. sophia however was downstairs in the living room, drinking her favorite chocolate drink, milo, and eating wafer sticks. the filipina was tired enough to go to sleep but decided that she was too hungry to rest hence why she was oddly sitting quietly on their sofa while eating and staring at the wall. the silence was broken when she heard soft footsteps going down the stairs. she opened her phone and shined her flashlight on the person responsible for the noise, scared of seeing someone she didn’t recognize, and was greeted with the sight of manon—eyes droopy and body slouched.

“couldn’t sleep,” the older girl said as she took a seat beside sophia, leaning her head back on the couch.

sophia quickly finished eating and put away her waste. “stay put,” the leader told manon who was confused but followed her command. the filipina then ran up stairs and ran back down with a guitar. she sat beside manon again, “what song do you want?”

manon became flustered due to the situation she was currently in, thankful that it was too dark for sophia to notice the blush creeping up her face, “u-uhm… anything you want,” she shyly replied.

sophia nodded, hummed, and pondered for a while before strumming a familiar tune, the intro of I love you too much from the book of life, the movie the six girls watched the night before.

the filipina ended the song softly as she looked at the sleeping figure beside her. she fixed manon’s sleeping position to make sure that the older girl doesn’t get a stiff neck as she slept and put away her guitar in the corner of the living room. she ran up the stairs again, came back down with a blanket, sat beside manon, covered the two of them with the blanket, and snuggled up with the older girl. she knew that she and manon needed to talk about what just happened right now, the tension, and the feelings that were indirectly conveyed, but she knew better than to linger, so she just cherished the precious moment.

“goodnight, manon.” sophia said as she pressed her lips on manon’s forehead before closing her eyes and drifting to sleep.
