I’m putting together a 1D timeline to show how overworked they were, and my god it’s insane. I’m only halfway through 2012 and it’s utter madness.
The boys finished X Factor in December 2010, began recording Up All Night in January 2011 and finished recording in October 2011, during which time they were on tour with X Factor. Up All Night was released in November 2011, and the Up All Night Tour began in December 2011. Between February and March 2012, they took a break from the UAN tour to open for Big Time Rush, then went back to the UAN tour, which ended in July 2011. Recording for Take Me Home began in May 2012 and ended in August 2012.
So in the span of a year and eight months, 1D (all teenagers, mind you) made two albums and did two tours and a stint as an opening act. There were also two official 1D books, one released in February 2011 and the other in May 2012, but who knows if the boys actually had any input on those.
It only gets worse from here.

Some Dead Boy Detectives Halloween Headcanons
Headcanons
halloween was the only time of year the boys ever change clothes until very recently
they like to people watch during halloween, go on walks and look at everyone’s costumes
charles hates that he can’t eat candy anymore and every year Edwin tries and fails to find a spell that’ll let them taste food again
the boys both HATE horror movies secretly, they tried to watch them in the 2000s but always leave the cinema halfway through
Charles always decorates the office for halloween, he tries to discreetly get Edwin to leave for a couple hours so he can surprise him but Edwin always knows, he goes along with it anyway.
On their latest halloween, Crystal wanted Charles to do a couples costume with her but Charles refused because he and Edwin always match and he wanted it to stay that way (that made Edwin cry)
Edwin secretly loves vampires, he tried to read Twilight once and threw the book out their office window after half an hour
Charles loves werewolves, Niko showed him the twilight movies and he unknowingly developed a crush on Jacob
Edwin reads classic spooky novels to Charles during October
Charles finds it strange they never get any clients on Halloween but doesn’t mind because he has such a good time anyway
Edwin uses every spell and charm he can to deter clients on Halloween so no one ruins Charles’ (and secretly his) fun.
Costumes
Every year since 1992 Edwin and Charles have done matching costumes (it took Charles three halloweens of convincing).
(Try to guess which years Edwin chose their costumes and which years Charles did)
1992- Vampire and Werewolf
1994- Stereotypical ghosts (The sheets with holes for eyes)
1996- Sherlock and Watson (the year Edwin finally stopped pretending he didn’t enjoy it)
1998- Devil and Angel (they both ended up in devil costumes, thinking the other would be the angel)
2000- Achilles and Patroclus
2002- Each other
2004- Frog and Toad
2006- Bert and Ernie
2008- Sun and Moon
2010- Bowser and Princess Peach
2012- The Mad Hatter and The March Hare
2014- Pirates
2016- Jekyll and Hyde
2018- Bonnie and Clyde
2020- Skeletons (Just like the intro)
2022- Velma and Shaggy (Crystal was Daphne and Niko was Fred)
in conclusion, my fucking god these bitches gay good for them good for them

Type: Fanfiction | Fandom: Rise of the Guardians (2012) | Characters: E. Aster Bunnymund, Sophie Bennett, Jamie Bennett, Jack Frost, Other Rise of the Guardians Character(s) | Ships: None.
Warnings & Triggers: Major Character Injury, Illness, Near Death.
---
During the very next spring, Bunnymund watches the river moss and sedum and green flowering lichen creep and cover the oasis's stones.
He always welcomes down the two kids: Jack Frost's first believer and The Last Light, Jamie Bennett, and... Jamie's sister, Sophie. Out of all the Guardians there ever were, Bunnymund's her favorite.
Sophie often runs around the Warren, chasing the unpainted eggs, laughing at the brooks bubbling and ancient-carved stone heads dancing. Sophie jumps at Bunnymund's feet to dance along, eagerly tugging his paw, batting her eyes up at Bunnymund without saying a word and getting whatever she wants. As if princess to Bunnymund's own domain. She may as well be. No other kid was ever so loved.
"No, Sophie! Don't jump off those!" Jamie yells, waving over to his little sister taking tumbles off the stone heads flailing to catch her.
One of them misses, and Sophie lands with a thud. But she's smiling.
Reassured by it, Bunnymund waves off a frowning Jamie instead. "No more fussing! It's an Easter picnic, mate!" he announces. Jamie's shoulders slowly go tense. "We got jellybeans! We got ham and we got carrot cake and we got pepper deviled eggs and we got--!"
At another high-pitched holler, Sophie leaping again, Jamie gets up. He marches to the nearby pond she plays at, calling out again.
"What are ya gonna do when Sophie's all grown up?" Jack mumbles, glancing between her and Bunnymund's eyes entirely focused on her. "The day's coming, y'know. She's turning nine in December this year."
"You should ask yourself that question instead, mate," Bunnymund sharply points out, and Jack makes a bit of a face, nibbling on one of the deviled eggs and ignoring Jamie's back. "He'll be out of middle school soon enough. That's usually when they stop believing..."
"Hm, no." Jack shakes his head, insisting, and Bunnymund huffs, "No. I'm not worried about Jamie. You guys have had adult believers."
"But they never remember to look... and to SEE us, Jack."
Unconvinced, Jack still shakes his head, frowning now like Jamie.
"JACK! JACK, HELP!"
Jamie's panicking scream echoes through the Warren, and a fierce-looking Jack's running off even before Bunnymund gets himself up.
At the pond's edge, water ripples. Where's Sophie?
He manages to get it out between breathes, Jack's hands protectively clasping Jamie's face--"Sophie fell in! I think she's hurt!"
Bunnymund doesn't wait, diving in, searching her out underwater. His rabbit-heart thrums fast. Something must be wrong. Very, very wrong. Because Sophie knows how to swim... and if she can't swim...
When Bunnymund pulls her out, his fur soaked, Sophie gasps for air and trembling and cries in Bunnymund's paws, holding her left arm.
It looks distorted to Bunnymund, swelling red. And unnaturally warm.
"Oh, no..."
---
He was the fastest out of everyone. Bunnymund whispered to Sophie cry-hiccupping Bunnymund's name into his dripping wet bunny fur, unsure of how to make her better, heaving them above ground.
Unfortunately, Sophie's arm didn't get any better. The skin purpled. Bunnymund thought he caught a whiff of a fever on Sophie building.
Mr. and Mrs. Bennett took her away, frantic.
They were mad at Jamie at first, scolding him for not watching Sophie and letting her get into trouble, then... they weren't. Sophie got worse. From an infected bone fracture, Bunnymund learns.
For a while, Sophie slept while being taken care of doctors. And slept. And slept past the time Sophie was meant to wake after her surgery.
Before she woke up in that morning, nearly a month after Easter, Jamie confronted a devastated-looking in Jamie's own bedroom. "This is your fault!" Jamie yelled, tearfully ramming little fists against Bunnymund's chest. "I hate you! I hate you, Ihateyou!"
He finally broke, angrily sobbing. Jack, watching them solemnly from the door, nodded. Bunnymund lowered his ears and hugged onto Jamie sobbing louder and hugging Bunnymund back reluctantly.
(Jamie didn't hate him... he didn't hate anyone, Jack mumbles to Bunnymund when it's late in the night. That wouldn't ever be Jamie.)
"It is my fault, Jamie... I thought she would always be safe with me..."
---
Bunnymund sneaks to Sophie's window as soon as she's home.
Sophie notices him, grinning, trying to open her window. Instead of having her struggle with it, Bunnymund opens it and climbs in.
"Hi!"
Bunnymund's nose-whiskers twitch. She smells like herself again. "Hi, Soph," he says, eyeing Jamie wheel up Sophie's oxygen tank.
"Did you have something to say, Sophie?" Jamie mentions.
She flattens her lips, glaring a moment at her brother.
"I... I promise I won't practice hopping anymore."
"That's what happened in the Warren?" Bunnymund mumbles, awed. "You were trying to practice to be... a rabbit like me... and hop high?"
When Sophie looks down, a little more ashamed, Jamie seems satisfied and pats her uninjured arm. Bunnymund minds her little hot pink cast, hugging Sophie, cupping the back of her blonde head.
"You need to all better first, okay... that's the most important thing," Bunnymund reminds her, letting an eager-eyed Sophie rest on his huge and furred knee. "Then... I'm gonna teach you even more secret rabbit tricks. Not even the other Guardians know about them."
It's worth hearing a giggle. Because one day, Sophie will grow up. And Sophie will understand how truly, deeply loved she really is.

2024 in Films - Part I
I watched too many films again this year so here's some reviews from the first quarter of 2024
January
Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998) - Pretty much the opposite college experience as depicted in 3 Idiots and also there's a scene where a child spontaneously converts to Islam to keep a wedding from happening and that works
Rocky (1976) - I got a little too into that series this year
The Karate Kid (1984) - Turns out the original is actually pretty good and I just watched the bad reboot as a kid! Oops!
Face/Off (1997) - This feels like it should be a fake film within a different film. Why is the face transplant plan A? There are some great scenes though, like the wife not recognising her husband, that made me question if this is actually a really deep exploration of identity. And then it got silly again.
Theater Camp (2023) - Almost makes me wish summer camps were real
Gone are the Days! (1963) - I watched this for Alan Alda's terrible high pitched southern accent but stayed for Ossie Davis infectious energy
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004) - Manic Pixie Dream Girl Amnesia. Joke aside, why is it that I can't stand Jim Carrey in comedies but love him in dramas
Moonstruck (1987) - This won an Oscar????
February
That Touch of Mink (1962) - homophobia stops insider trading apparently
Carol (2015) - This probably would have given me a sexuality crisis in 2015
Ay Carmela (1990) - no scene in any film will portray the horror of the civil war and fascism as well as the half eaten dinner table in the abandoned house
Rope (1948) - people only focus on the gay subtext (which is real) but can we pleeaaase talk about the politics of the film
Catch-22 (1970) - did a pretty good job in adapting a book that is really difficult to adapt
Platoon (1986) - This was another entry in my grad school watch list
Pan's Labyrinth (2006) - I wanted to watch this since forever but wanted to wait until I could understand it in Spanish. Well worth the hype.
Rocky II (1979) - a sequel that initially made me go "was this really necessary" but then brought me a lot of joy
Rocky III (1982) - Intricate Rituals
Rocky IV (1985) - A metaphor for the Cold War but also. Bad.
Rocky V (1990) - Bad
Rocky Balboa (2006) - Better but like what the fuck was that editing during the fight
March
Hannah Gadsby: Nanette (2018) - I love when stand up comedy is recommended to me with "this will make you cry and change your life" and then it's true
The Holdovers (2023) - Liked it so much I watched it twice but the guy playing Kountze looked too modern like he definitely knows what an iPhone is
The Zone of Interest (2023) - the banality of evil is kind of a cliché phrase by now but it's real
American Fiction (2023) - clever satire, if I say more it probably turns into an essay
Capote (2005) - Rip Truman Capote you would have loved true crime podcasts. Also this was a continuation of my Philip Seymour Hoffman haunting
An American Werewolf in London (1981) - I love when a werewolf film doubles as survivors guilt
Poor Things (2023) - Horrible
Creed (2015) - Pretty much just Rocky but with a 2015 soundtrack and I'm not mad about it
A Fantastic Woman (2017) - a wrote a long ass review on letterboxd about this film is about loss
Creed II (2018) - As haunted as a sports movie is allowed to get before having to add real ghosts (please tell me there's sports films with ghosts). It's about "like father like son". It's about legacy. It's about being defined by your family names. It's about fatherhood. It's about breaking the cycle.
Creed III (2023) - Finally a film that asks the brave question "what if Rocky V was good?"
Dune (1984) - I liked the worms
The Joel Files (2001) - the story of two families in the third reich and one of them happened to be Billy Joel's
Oppenheimer (2023) - Would have made me insufferable during my teenage physics phase
Shiva Baby (2020) - a film that's also an anxiety attack
Searching for Sugar Man (2012) - insane!!!
Menashe (2017) - first Yiddish film I ever watched
Fruitvale Station (2013) - haunted
I, Tonya (2017) - a film keenly aware of the unreliability and subjectivity of both interviews and biopics, this is a sports biopic but also a moving story about the human need for love and the cycle of abuse and it's also damn funny.
Nosferatu (1922) - both scarier and more boring than the novel and also uniquely blood libel flavoured
Mädchen in Uniform (1931) - people were right this is gay
Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975) - Lovecraftian horror for cottagecore lesbians
I do not care if we go down in history as barbarians (2018) - history repeats itself, first as a tragedy then as a farce
La Haine (1995) - I watched this because of my professor :)
A Most Wanted Man (2014) - Philip Seymour Hoffman Haunting Continuation
Ödipussi (1988) - "Mommy calls me Pussi" is an actual quote
13 Little Donkeys and the Sun Court (1958) - Yeehaw???

Hi, I have a question concerning the time when taylor had that getaway road trip with karlie, do you know, where harry was at that time??? Could it have been possible for them to meet up during that trip???
And how long after till she met calvin?
Thank you for all your help and work
Thank you for asking, (Calvin was a year later)I’ve hinted at this in the timeline but I’m not sure I’ve posted about it because I know how important that is to another fandoms lore. My biggest questions for that is who took the photos and, as you say, were was Harry?
Before hand
In the lead up we know (from Ryan Tedder) that Harry and Taylor were both at Conway Studios at the same time on 22 February & around when they wrote Style/WTNY/Clean and JALBOYH respectively. Harry wrote I Love You. Hendall break up announced. Harry got the anatomical heart tattoo. Harry and Taylor both attend Harvey Weinstein pre-Oscar’s party on 4 March.
Tumblr media
Taylor, Karlie and Ed attend a Vanity Fair party on the third March. Harry in LA.
On the 4th March Alex & Sierra posts photo of Meredith in Taylor’s LA home. Harry wrote I love you for them and this was like meeting him about that, Taylor later confirmed she heard it. Harry seen Culver city (adjacent to LA)
So to recap, Hendall broke up, we have photos and sightings of Harry and Taylor at the studio and a party at the same time, an indication that Harry was at Taylor’s House and they each wrote specific songs about being in love with the other.
Tumblr media
Big Sur
Then Taylor, Karlie or Harry are not seen 4-6 March (all last seen in L.A.)
While Taylor and Karlie at at Big Sur and he’s MIA On the 5th March Harry tweets lyrics about driving!!!👀 (More on the song below)
Tumblr media
After
On the 6th- they post the Big Sur photos in a photo dump with the LA parties included. The photos are clearly not selfies and don’t seem like they were taken by a timer or security guard.
Karlie meets up with her sister and Taylor disappears. Harry and Taylor stay missing for another week. On 12 March Harry has dinner alone in LA. His motorbike breaks down (LA) and he looks sad / the guy that comes to help looks mad on the 15th March. Then he goes back to London for 1D promo on 18 March and tour 2 weeks after.
So a theory could be that it was a double date, or a road trip of three. It’s no surprise and obvious why Harry wouldn’t be included in the photos so we will never know.
Hands on the wheel tweet
This is the title of two songs, honestly either could have been picked by 2014 Harry and have different meanings, though both use driving as a metaphor:
A$AP Rocky’s “Hands on the Wheel” (2012) about a carefree, hedonistic lifestyle about smoking weed and being reckless. The phrase “hands on the wheel” is used ironically—it suggests being in control of one’s life when being wild, a paradox of control and recklessness.
Willie Nelson’s “Hands on the Wheel” (1975) the themes of peace, acceptance, and life’s journey. In this context, “hands on the wheel” symbolizes taking control of one’s life with a sense of calm and responsibility. The song is introspective and settled tone, celebrating love and the passage of time.
Either works but the meaning would be different. The Willie Nelson song fits with the tone of I Love You and rekindling. The A$AP rocky song might hint that he shouldn’t have been there or it was reckless to be, which the mad looking handler when he had a break down could fit with.

Mini Promptathon: 2012 Re-edition!
Tumblr media
What is this? It’s like the big summer promptathon, only a shorter version - a fun, no-pressure event where you can post zero to as many prompts as you like, zero to as many fills as you like, and join in the squee or just quietly enjoy the fun.
It's taking place here on dreamwidth. You don't need a dreamwidth account (or to be part of our community) to play - just please include an online handle of some kind in anon comments so we know who you are and can credit you for your prompts and fills!
We’re a Clintasha (Clint Barton/Natasha Romanoff) community that welcomes ALL THINGS MARVEL. We’d like Clint and/or Natasha to show up in prompt fills somewhere, but what that means is up to you - individually or as friends, lovers, spouses, partners, gen fic, ANYTHING. Yes, that means we also welcome other characters and pairings (and threesomes or moresomes.)
This year’s, by discord vote, the theme is 2012 Re-edition! To set the scene: the year is 2012. Avengers has recently been released, ending MCU Phase One (Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Iron Man 2, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger). Those of us who didn’t get the shawarma after credits scene in our countries are frantically searching for it online. We can quote the Clintasha scenes off by heart. Fandom is going mad for the Avengers living in the Tower together or going on road trips. And if you want more marvel characters? Well, that's what comics are for. Helped by Matt Fraction and David Aja, who have just started their Hawkeye comic (issues 1-6 were released in 2012). Outside of Marvel, fuel is added to the fandom with the release of The Bourne Legacy and a Jeremy Renner photoshoot for Empire involving ropes. (If you want a blast from the past or prompt ideas: original 2012 promptathon post with masterlist links and associated posts.)
TIMELINE:
NOW: the clock has been wound back to 2012, prompting has begun! 12 February: open for fills! (You can also keep prompthing.) MIDIGHT 12 March: promptathon ends, both fills and prompts, at midnight whatever your timezone. (A masterlist of fills will be posted after.)
If you too would like to party like it’s 2012, please read on for how to leave prompts and fills, and a few rules to make sure everyone has a fun time.
LEAVING PROMPTS
Please post each prompt in a separate comment on the dreamdwidth post.
Prompts can be anything – simple or elaborate, words or pictures, songs or poems, lyrics or phrases, anything that could inspire a fanwork. Use your imagination. Go wild! You can also re-use prompts from previous events, whether they were filled or not.
You can leave as many prompts as you want. We’re serious. Keep coming back. We want as many prompts as we can possibly get.
In keeping with the theme, aim to prompt like it’s 2012. As in as if nothing MCU or Marvel etc that was created after 2012 exists. (No harm, no foul for any mistakes! Any prompts and fills that contain content post-2012 just means you’ve created an alternate timeline.)
SUBMITTING FILLS
Respond by commenting in a reply to the prompt that you are filling.
The subject line of your comment should be: FILL: title, rating.
The content of your comment should start with: > Title > Rating (ie film ratings or AO3 style ratings) > Any warnings OR you can say ‘choose not to warn’ (think about the AO3 warnings or take a look at our comm guidance if you’re stuck)
You can then post your entire fanwork in the comment if it’s short enough OR you can post your fanwork anywhere else on the internet and post a link to it in your comment.
Following these guidelines 1) makes it easier for people to find your fills during the event as a one-stop shop, and know what they’re clicking on and 2) makes it a LOT easier for your mods to create a masterlist at the end, without missing any of your fills. Thank you!
Consider including a teaser to catch people’s attention! If you’re posting on AO3, we have a ‘Community: be_compromised’ tag. If you’re posting on tumblr, let us know and we’ll reblog on the be_compromised tumblr. We want people to be able to find and appreciate your fills <3
There’s no length requirement on fanworks submitted. You can create drabbles or epics, vids, art, fanmixes, anything at all; it’s just all about getting creative! Fills do not have to be complete or completed during the promptathon. You can fill as many prompts as you want, and prompts can be filled multiple times by whoever wants to fill them. Zero pressure; all fun.
In keeping with the theme, aim to fill prompt like it’s 2012. As in as if nothing MCU or Marvel etc that was created after 2012 exists. (No harm, no foul for any mistakes! Any prompts and fills that contain content post-2012 just means you’ve created an alternate timeline.)
SQUEE
We have a generic thread for comments, questions, and chat as the first comment thread on the dreamwidth post. We welcome chatting and cheerleading in replies to prompts and fills. (This is where posting each prompt separately and labelling the subject line of fills helps to keep things organised.) We also have a be_compromised discord server for all kinds of discussion if you prefer a chatroom-style space. (Although as above, all prompts and fills will be in this post as a one-stop shop.)
Commenting, cheerleading, and enthusiasm is a huge part of fandom and you are very welcome to join in! Yes, even if you don’t post any prompts or fills.
GENERAL RULES
Our Community Rules apply to this event. To summarise: > No character or ship bashing. This is a positive fandom space. > No plagiarism or use of AI.  > Please no RPF (Real Person Fanfiction) or any gossip/speculation about actors’ off-screen non-work lives, as the primary focus of this community is fictional characters. > Please including a rating for fanworks and a warning OR choose not to warn. > Be kind and have fun!
If you have any questions about anything please feel free to ask! The easiest way is to use the ‘Questions / Comments / Squee’ thread, which is in the first comment to this post, or ask on the Discord server. Your mods are @inkvoices, @cloud--atlas aka franztastisch, and @quidnunc-life aka gsparkle.
Welcome back to 2012. We’re bringing the party to you!

Decision making within the Beatles.
Link to masterpost of quote compilations
So the re-formation suggestions were never convincing enough. They were kind of nice when they happened – ‘That would be good, yeah’ – but then one of us would always not fancy it. And that was enough, because we were the ultimate democracy. If one of us didn’t like a tune, we didn’t play it. We had some very close shaves. ‘Maxwell’s Silver Hammer’ was a pretty close shave.”
“Paul McCartney’s New Album, New Life and How the Beatles Almost Reunited” by Brian Hiatt for Rolling Stone (1 March 2012).
"Well, say if George was the only one who didn't like a certain script but we were all mad about it, then we would try everything we could to change his mind, persuade him," he joked, as he raised his fist menacingly. "But if he just didn't want to do it, that would be it. We just wouldn't do it. We've always got to be in complete agreement on things as important as this, otherwise, later on it just wouldn't work out."
Paul McCartney interviewed by Maureen O’Grady for Rave, December 1965
“If they are asked to do something as a group and any one of them doesn’t want to take part, then the scheme is dropped,”
Norrie Drummond’s 1967 Melody Maker interview with McCartney
“We had a democratic thing going between us. Everyone had to agree with everything that was done, whether it was a concert in Liverpool or to go to Hamburg”
Harrison’s May 1998 testimony to the London High Court regarding the Star Club Tapes
‘Ringo and I,’ George continues, ‘we help each other. He with the drums, and I with the guitar or sitar. That’s how it will remain in the future. We’ve actually always stuck together, especially when we voted amongst the group. Most of the time, it was two against two — and then we’d flip a coin. That way we at least had a chance sometimes. Those were the days…’ ‘In order to have peace, George had to let Paul have his way most of the time,’ Pattie says and pours more tea. ‘He even wanted to dictate how George should play the sitar, even though he has no idea about it.’
Thomas Beyl, translated from BRAVO, 1971
Paul was the only thorn in his side. Paul refused to sign the contract and walked out of the offices. This left things in limbo, since according to the terms of the Beatles’ partnership agreement, all their business decisions had to be agreed by quorum. It might seem remarkable that Klein so quickly acquired this degree of power over the Beatles’ affairs. But bizarre at it might seem, the matter of the quorum was totally ignored. It might even have been that none of the Beatles were really aware that this clause had been written into their partnership contract by Brian. I doubt if at that stage any of them even had a copy.
Magical Mystery Tours My Life with The Beatles by Tony Bramwell
GEORGE: But it’s more of a personal thing. That’s down to the management situation. You know, with Apple. Because Paul, really, it was his idea to do Apple, and once it started going, Paul was very active in there. And then it got really chaotic and we had to do something about it. When we started doing something about it, obviously Paul didn’t have as much say in the matter, and then he decided – because he wanted Lee Eastman – you know, his in-laws – to run it, and we didn’t. Then that’s the only reason, you know. That’s the whole basis. But that’s only a personal problem that he’ll have to get over because that’s the reality. [It’s] that he’s out-voted, and we’re a partnership; we’ve got these companies which we all own 25 percent of each, and if there’s a decision to be made, then like in any other business or group you have a vote, you know. And he was out-voted three to one. And if he doesn’t like it, it’s really a pity. Because we’re trying to do what’s best for the Beatles as a group, or best for Apple as a company. We’re not trying to do what’s best for Paul and his in-laws, you know?
May 1st, 1970 (New York): George
It was true, that when the group was touring, their work and social relationships were close, but there had been a lot of arguing, mainly about musical and artistic matters. I suppose Paul and George were the main offenders in this respect, but from time to time we all gave displays of temperament and threatened to ‘walk out’. Of necessity, we developed a pattern for sorting out our differences, by doing what any three of us decided. It sometimes took a long time and sometimes there was deadlock and nothing was done, but generally that was the rule we followed and, until recent events, it worked quite well.
John Lennon’s affidavit – From “The Beatles Diary Volume 2: After The Break-Up 1970-2001” by Keith Badman
They said, “Oh no, typical of you, all that stalling and what. Got to do it now.” I said, “Well, I’m not going to. I demand at least the weekend. I’ll look at it, and on Monday. This is supposed to be a recording session, after all.” I dug me heels in, and they said, right, well, we’re going to vote it. I said, “No, you’ll never get Ringo to.” I looked at Ringo, and he kind of gave me this sick look like, Yeah, I’m going with them. Then I said, “Well, this is like bloody Julius Caesar, and I’m being stabbed in the back!” It’s the first time you realize in our whole relationship that whenever we voted, we never actually had come to that point before—three were going to vote one down. That was the first time, and they all signed it, they didn’t need my signature.
Paul McCartney, 1980 - All You Need Is Love: The End of the Beatles by Peter Brown and Steven Gaines, 2024
“I kept saying [to the other Beatles], ‘Don’t give Allen Klein 20 per cent, give him 15, we’re a big act!’ And everyone’s going, ‘No, no, he wants 20 per cent.’ I say, ‘Of course he does, he wants 30, really, but give him 15. It’s like buying a car. You don’t give the guy what he asks for.’ But it was impossible in the end, because it became three to one and I was like the idiot in the corner – trying, I thought, to save the situation. And to Klein it looked like I was trying to screw the situation. He used to call me the Reluctant Virgin. I said, ‘Fuck off, I don’t want to fucking marry you, that’s all.’ he’s going, ‘Oh, you know, he may, maybe he will, will he, won’t he, that’s a definite maybe.’ It was really difficult.”
Paul McCartney, interview w/ Paul Du Noyer for The Word: Let it be… naked. (December, 2003)
“On the way in which the four of us had sorted out our differences in the past, I deny that it had been on a three-to-one basis. If one disagreed, we discussed the problem until we reached agreement or let the matter drop. I know of no decision taken on a three-to-one basis”
Paul Mccartney - Keith Badman, The Beatles After the Breakup
John was a very forceful personality. Mostly – I mean, if we had arguments within the group, I remember George would turn to us, “Oh, he’s won again. John’s won again.” Just because he shouted loudest. And that often used to happen. “Ah, I’m not bloody doing that—” “Alright then, alright alright.” So there was a lot of that going on. So you do tend to get forced into another position, you know, if somebody’s very loud and very – I mean, I’m not saying he was just loud, he was a wit. He was a funny man, John, he was a clever guy, I loved him, you know. But somehow we got this anti position.
November 26th, 1984 (Soho Square, London): On British television show The Tube
“It’s not like we spend our time wrestling in the studio trying to get our own songs on. We all do it the same way… we take it in turns to record a track. It’s just that usually in the past, George lost out because Paul and I are tougher. “It’s nothing new, the way things are. It’s human. We’ve always said we’ve had fights. It’s no news that we argue. I’m more interested in my songs. Paul’s more interested in his, and George is more interested in his. That’s always been.”
John Lennon Interview: New Musical Express 12/13/1969
GEORGE: "Yeah, well, I wrote some songs -- in fact some songs which I feel are quite nice which I'll use on this album -- I wrote about four years ago. But, uhh, it was more difficult for me then to, you know, get in there to do it. It was the way the Beatles took off with Paul and John's songs, and it made it very difficult for me get in. And also, I suppose at that time I didn't have as much confidence when it came down to pushing my own material as I have now. So it took a while. You know, I think the first... I did write one song on about the second album, and I left it and didn't write any more. That was just an exercise to see if I could write. About two years later I recorded a couple more songs -- I think 'Rubber Soul.' And then I've had one or two songs on each album. Well, there are four songs of mine on the double White Album. But now, uhh, the output of songs is too much to be able to just sit around, you know, waiting to put two songs on an album. I've got to get 'em out, you know." "Yeah. It's always... it was whoever would be the heaviest would get the most songs done. So consequently, I couldn't be bothered pushing, like, that much. You know, even on 'Abbey Road' for instance, we'd record about eight tracks before I got 'round to doing one of mine. Because uhh, you know, you say 'Well, I've got a song,' and then with Paul -- 'Well I've got a song as well and mine goes like this -- diddle-diddle-diddle-duh,' and away you go! You know, it was just difficult to get in there, and I wasn't gonna push and shout. But it was just over the last year or so we worked something out, which is still a joke really -- Three songs for me, three songs for Paul, three songs for John, and two for Ringo."
George Harrison Interview: Howard Smith, WABC-FM New York 5/1/1970
GEORGE: To get it straight, if I hadn’t been with John and Paul I probably wouldn’t have thought about writing a song, at least not until much later. They were writing all these songs, many of which I thought were great. Some were just average, but, obviously, a high percentage were quality material. I thought to myself, If they can do it, I’m going to have a go. But it’s true: it wasn’t easy in those days getting up enthusiasm for my songs. We’d be in a recording situation, churning through all this Lennon-McCartney, Lennon-McCartney, Lennon-McCartney! Then I’d say, [meekly] “Can we do one of these?”
George Harrison, Guitar World: When we was fab. (1992)
John: Well, I’m saying that “Dear Prudence” is arranged. Can’t you hear [John vocalizes part of the song]. That is the arrangement, you know? But I’m too frightened to say “This is it.” I just sit there and say, “Look, if you don’t come along and play your bit, I won’t do the song,” you know? I can’t do any better than that. Don’t ask me for what movie* you’re gonna play on it. Because apart from not knowing, I can’t tell you better than you have, what grooves you can play on it. You know, I just can’t work. I can’t do it like that. I never could, you know. But when you think of the other half of it, just think, how much more have I done towards helping you write? I’ve never told you what to sing or what to play. You know, I’ve always done the numbers like that. Now, the only regret, just the past numbers, is when because I’ve been so frightened, that I’ve allowed you to take it somewhere where I didn’t want
...
John: And that’s all I did on the last album was say, “OK, Paul, you’re out to decide [how] my songs [are] concerned, arrangement-wise.” … I’d sooner just sing them, than have them turn into, into ‘[Being For the Benefit of] Mr. Kite,’ or anything else, where I’ve accepted the problem from you that it needs arrangement. … I don’t see any further than the guitar, and the drums, and, and George Martin doing the … I don’t hear any of the flutes playing, you know? I suppose I could hear ‘em if I [spoken as if straining] sat down and worked very hard! You know, I could turn out a mathematical drawing, if you like …
Jan. 13: The Lunchroom Tape
PAUL: You see the thing is also, I, I get to a bit where I just sort of push all my ideas, you know, and I know that my ideas aren’t the best, you know. They are [mechanical voice] “good, good, good” but they’re not the best, you know. We can improve on it. Because we write songs good, and we improve on it. [to Ringo] And you can improve on your drumming like it is, if you get into it. If you don’t, you know, then okay, I have better ideas, but if you get into it, you’re better! You know. It’s like that.
Twickenham, January 6th
I wasn’t surprised that Paul disliked “Revolution 9” as much as he did. Although he was well versed in all musical genres—in fact, he’d been into avant-garde well before John—he simply didn’t see it as Beatles music, and he certainly didn’t agree that it was the direction that the Beatles should go in. Later on, when they were sequencing the White Album, I heard through the grapevine that John and Paul ultimately had a huge row over “Revolution 9.” Paul absolutely did not want it on the album, and John was just as adamant that it would be on there. In the end, of course, he got his way.
Here, There and Everywhere, Geoff Emerick
I was more ready for the drink or a little bit of pot or something. I’d not wanted to do it, I’d held off like a lot of people were trying to, but there was massive peer pressure. And within a band, it’s more than peer pressure, it’s fear pressure. It becomes trebled, more than just your mates, it’s, 'Hey, man, this whole band’s had acid, why are you holding out? What’s the reason, what is it about you?’ So I knew I would have to out of peer pressure alone. And that night I thought, well, this is as good a time as any, so I said, 'Go on then, fine.’ So we all did it.
Paul McCartney, Many Years From Now by Barry Miles
"John's fellow student Helen Anderson remembers him ushering Paul in, with George, their tag-along junior, usually following a little later. The three would go into the cafeteria for a cheap lunch of chips then take their guitars into an empty life-drawing room, which tended to be more spacious than the others. Helen, being extraordinarily beautiful, was among the very few they allowed to watch while they rehearsed. 'Paul would have a school notebook and he'd be scribbling down words,' she says. 'Those sessions could be intense because John was used to getting his way by being aggressive---but Paul would stand his ground. Paul seemed to make John come alive when they were together.”
Paul McCartney: The Life - Philip Norman.
“I don’t know about being in a band with him, how that would work out,” he told Rolling Stone in 1979. “It’s like, we all have our own tunes to do. And my problem was that it would always be very difficult to get in on the act, because Paul was very pushy in that respect. When he succumbed to playing on one of your tunes, he’d always do good. But you’d have to do fifty-nine of Paul’s songs before he’d even listen to one of yours. So, in that respect, it would be very difficult to ever play with him.”
A Conversation With George Harrison
What was clear from the start was that writing would be a matter of Lennon and McCartney. “I remember walking through Woolton, the village where John was from, and saying to John, ‘Look, you know, it should just be you and me who are the writers,’ ” McCartney recalled. “We never said, ‘Let’s keep George out of it,’ but it was implied.”
In “Paul McCartney Doesn’t Really Want to Stop the Show” by David Remnick for The New Yorker (11 October 2021).
“I do stand back at times, unlike John. I look ahead. I’m careful. John would go for the free guitar and just accept it straight away, in a mad rush. I would stand back and think, but what’s this bloke really after, what will it mean? I was always the one that told Klein to put money away for tax. “I don’t LIKE being the careful one. I’d rather be immediate like John. He was all action. John was always the loudest in any crowd. He had the loudest voice. He was the cock who crowed the loudest. Me and George used to call him the cockerel in the studio.
Paul and Hunter Davies, 1981
George “I’ve got about forty tunes which I haven’t recorded, and some of them I think are quite good. I wrote one called ‘The Art Of Dying’ three years ago, and at that time I thought it was too far out. But I’m going to record it. I used to have a hang-up about telling John, Paul and Ringo I had a song for the albums, because I felt mentally, at that time, as if I was trying to compete. And, in a way, the standard of the songs had to be good, because theirs were very good. Another thing is I didn’t want The Beatles to be recording rubbish for my sake, just because I wrote it. On the other hand, I don’t want to record rubbish just because they wrote it. The group comes first. It took time for me to get more confidence as a songwriter, and now I don’t care if they don’t like it. I can shrug it off. Another thing with The Beatles is it’s sometimes a matter of whoever pushes the hardest gets the most tunes on the album, then it’s down to personalities, as to whoever is going to push. And more often, I just leave it until somebody says that they would like to do one of my tunes.”
The Beatles Off the Record (Keith Badman)
Paul came across in 1963 as a fun-loving, footloose bachelor who turned on his charm to devastating effect when he wanted to manipulate rivals, colleagues or women he fancied. (...) He had enormous powers of persuasion within The Beatles. He would get his own way by subtlety and suaveness where John resorted to shouting and bullying. John may have been the loudest Beatle but Paul was the shrewdest. I watched him twist the others round to his point of view in all sorts of contentious situations, some trivial, some more significant, some administrative, some creative.

I'm reading Yellowface, and it's a very smart and poignant novel that is disturbing in the best way, but it's driving me up the wall with the timeline inconsistencies.
Okay, so the story is basically: there are two young writers, June (white, unsuccessful) and Athena (Chinese-American, successful), who know each other since freshman year in college, and are on friendly terms. At the beginning of the novel they're celebrating Athena's newest triumph at her apartment, when she dies in a stupid accident. In a moment of madness/inspiration June steals the draft of Athena's next novel (which only exists in one, typewritten copy), works it over, polishes it, then gets it published herself and becomes a hit - scandals and internet and publishing drama follows.
I'm about 80% in, and so far we had one definite time stamp: March 2020, which should be like maybe 3 years after Athena's death (june takes some months to finish the novel, then it's 15 months after the deal that it's published, and now it's been out for some time, enough that she has published a novella since then too). So, anyway, let's say that Athena died in 2017. We also know that she (and June too) was twenty-seven at the time. Which means that they were supposedly born in 1990.
Yet at one time June says she was obssessed with Twilight in sixth grade - but she should have been like 15 when Twilight was published!
There is a flashback to their freshman year in college, when Athena published a short story which mentions watching The Hobbit (and watching it in the dorm). She should have been a fresman in like 2008 - The Hobbit came out in 2012.
After the March 2020 time stamp (the narrative voice makes us believe that June is narrating the things as they happen, she is not remembering them) June notes that she voted for Biden - but at this point the election is still months away!
Anyway, great novel, but the timeline is driving me crazy XD

Since starting this blog as a Vampire Diaries blog back in 2012, I've gone through a number of iterations. After my stint as a TVD blog for the better part of three years, I expanded out into a multi-purpose, whatever is my current hyperfixation blog. There are, of course, always the long running staples (Star Wars, Warhammer, LOTR) but I have gone through some pretty specific weird ones. The summer/fall of Mad Max: Fury Road, my years long Steve Rogers obsession, my summer of The Musketeers, that month of The Originals. The year I lost my mind and started watching dizis (lol, thank god that one is over).
The point is, I've had many throughout the years, but I haven't had one ongoing and deep since maybe the first season of House of the Dragon. (That one ended abruptly when I finished reading Fire and Blood and realized that the source material was stupid as shit, the writers were possibly dumber and this show was going to make me mad sooner than later.) In addition to an extremely busy past year or so and the disappointment of the end of The Siege of Terra, I haven't really had anything that has captured my interest for a long period of time. (Decimus Androndinus Felix, Lord of Vespator and the Eastern Marches is the current love of my life but he was only in four books and now they are done and I am SAD).
Welp. This summer I spent a week with my brother @bonesingerofyme-loc as I do every summer, and in light of the extreme heat and our extreme laziness, we decided to binge watch the animated Avatar: The Last Airbender. He's been a fan for a long, long time, but since I was like, 16 when it came out, I wasn't exactly the target demographic. And its taken me a while into adulthood to truly embrace certain interests, and he patiently waited to spring this one on me.
And buddy. This show got me. It's got everything I love in a show, in a children's show (I love children's media that isn't just mindless entertainment, and there is a particular type that just does it for me) and it's the sort of thing that is just beautiful as it's written and also really needs no explaining. It reminds me of Bantam Star Wars (it's best era), and that sort of unique blend of magic and mystery and family and despair and hope and love and everything in between. Aang is just so Luke, with his love that is greater than the world and also for the world, with the breathless way he uses his power but with so much thought and care. With the family that they build, with the truly excellent writing. I could go on at length, and probably will in later posts on in later drafts, but this show. This fucking show man.
And then, of course, bc he can never leave well enough alone, he tells me about his ship. The ship. And it's a rarepair, which is insane because I NEVER ship rarepairs, both because rarepairs are usually silly, often more infuriating than not, and so limited that the full scope of fangirling and obsession is hard to fully realize. But like, it's fucking perfect and I'm handling it about as well as you'd expect lol. (It's Zuko/Toph, because of course I would fucking fall in love with that pairing.) Anyway, expect Avatar span for at least the next two weeks until work starts again (or even more if I'm stressed enough to need an escape lol).

2024 in Movies: First Quarter
So around this time last year I made a post about how I'd started attending a group movie night my friends do. I usually only attended around Halloween, but they started streaming movies as a group year-round, every Monday and Tuesday, and after a few months, I started setting a reminder so I could participate. It's kind of complicated and involves installing special browser scripts and may not entirely be above board, but it's only for like five people, so whatever.
Last year I listed out all the movies I'd watched. People do "challenges" to ingest 52 pieces of media a year. One a week. So they'll do 52 books, or 52 movies, etc. I think after six months of attending my group movie night, I was up to around 60 or 70 movies.
But that was 2023. It's 2024. I attended most movie nights, on top of this putting me in the mood to watch more movies on my own time. This year? 153 movies. Three times what's supposed to be a challenge for some people! Here's what I watched this year.
Unfortunately, Tumblr absolutely refuses to let me post the entire thing in full. I assume it's because it's a giant list of 153 links. It doesn't actually tell me what the problem is, it just gives me a vague "Sorry, there was an error saving your post." So we'll have to break it up by quarters:
📆 January 2024 Merry Little Batman ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Ralph Bakshi's Wizards ⭐⭐⭐ Belle ⭐⭐⭐1/2 Lupin the Third: Castle of Cagliostro ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The New Adventures of Pippi Longstocking ⭐⭐⭐ Coneheads ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Child's Play ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Land Before Time ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Planet ⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic Mr. Fox ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mad Monster Party? ⭐⭐ Frankenweenie (2012) ⭐⭐ 1/2 Planes, Trains and Automobiles ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Paddington ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Paddington 2 ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Looney Tunes: Back in Action ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Justice League: Warworld ⭐
📆 February 2024 Ginger Snaps ⭐⭐⭐ Gremlins 2: The New Batch ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ From a Whisper to a Scream ⭐ 1/2 Wonka ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 The Stepfather ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Stepfather 2 ⭐⭐ Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse ⭐⭐ 1/2 Puppet Master 4 ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Nimona ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Puppet Master 5 ⭐⭐ Spooky House ⭐ Leatherface: The Texas Chainsaw Massacre III ⭐ Joy Ride ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2
📆 March 2024 Star Trek: The Motion Picture ⭐⭐⭐⭐ James Bond: Tomorrow Never Dies ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Star Trek II: Wrath of Khan ⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Human Tornado ⭐⭐⭐ 1/2 The Lighthouse ⭐⭐⭐ Star Trek III: The Search for Spock ⭐⭐⭐ Dolemite is My Name ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Dune (1984) ⭐⭐
