Still thinking about that one time I was taking a maritime logistics class, and it had been six weeks of learning port operation systems and shipping lane navigation and how much different type of cargo ships pollute, and then one week we suddenly get a different teacher who starts teaching us about how we can be better store managers and how we can all be #girlbosses and #futureleaders and then gives us a discussion assignment where we have to talk about what we would do if one of our coworkers raped another coworker. And then next week it was back to our normal teacher and the possible uses of renewable energy in the cargo shipping industry. What.

going into my final week of classes and we always have one last week after the final paper (so the professors have time for grading) where typically the only work we have is one last discussion post.

usually, this post is pretty simple and light (to go easy on us after the final). my ethics class is like “summarize your conclusions from your final paper! :)” and my communications class is like “tell the class about your career goals! :)”

Forgot to mention awhile ago I started Big O-ITS GOOD-and this is something that hasn’t been touched on yet but is that the robot is sentient, which got me thinking about why this aspect is appealing to me in mecha context pasts “already preferring robots with sentience to begin with”.

There is something both intriguing and horrifying about the idea this giant man made machine your piloting that cannot speak at all is still technically aware. It doesn’t have a free will per-say as it needs you, its pilot, to operate it, to make it move and fight, but it still has its own thoughts and feelings. And whether or not this sentience means anything to humanity-if it freaks out other people, if it means anything for the general scale of evolution and the future as technology continues to grow-you still have the duty to pilot this robot because there’s no other way to eliminate the enemies, and only you can do it. Even if you didn’t choose to, the robot needs you as much as you need it.

i do think there's something really interesting to be examined irt the age change from the iwtv book to the show bc even though lestat has been alive for 140+ years, he's still just as existentially confused as louis. he doesn't have any good answers for him when it comes to what their purpose is bc he genuinely doesn't know and is making it all up as he goes along, just like a human being. if they were approximately the same age, this would be frustrating but not surprising since they're both still very young both as humans and vampires but bc show lestat has been alive for over a century, i can imagine that louis felt even more cheated in having lestat as a mentor. like what do you mean you don't know????

during their conversation on the bench in ep3 i think is louis starting to realize that lestat doesn't know anymore about this than him and it always reminded me of that part in tvl when lestat meets marius and asks him what the purpose of vampires is and marius is like we don't have a purpose, the world doesn't need us and it will need us less as time goes on. it's like if this being who has lived such a long time hasn't been able to figure out what all of this is about, how could i possibly ever hope to do the same? i think it adds a layer of existential dread that you will never ever figure any of this out and it will never get any easier or more comprehensible and you just have to live w that forever
